I loved Dr. Doetzel! She's quirky, but a really good teacher! Her group project was one of the best group projects I've ever had to do! I really recommend her. She's a great prof.
She is a good person but not the greatest prof, she is passionate towards her students which is nice but her classes werent too helpful for exams, we had alot of class discussions and she would add a few questions about that but study the text book because most of her questions are stright out of there, and i dont remember going over any of them!
She is a tree hugging, over the top eccentric annoying cheesy prof.
Very interseting prof. Easy to do very well with little effort, textbook use is high only because her exam questions are highly based on it. Helpful and approachable. Lots of group work which can be really tiring, but her "celebrations of learning" are mostly take home quizzes, so you can do well even if you are as quiet as a church mouse!
She tries to hard which her pushy and our class tends to just pull back and roll our eyes. She's a nice lady. But I find her tests pointless and she askes you some wild questions. No matter what you do don't take this class with her. Her project is also a joke. Get Bruce for a prof he's awesome!!
A fairly interesting class most of the time. She brought in one very intersting guest speaker. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there is a fair bit of group work so be careful. If you're looking for an easy elective this is the class for you. Do the quizzes in the back of the textbook and you will do well. Easy marker.
Nancy was a wonderful person. Her class was easy and interesting. The only annoying thing was her constant talking about herself and all of her 7 degrees. I would take Sociology with her again. If your looking for a GPA booster sociology with Nancy is the way to go.
Super quirky and passionate. Clearly knowledgeable in her field but a little bit all over the place, sometimes hard to follow.
Really awful, talks continuously about her own life not the class topic. Has a lot of passion for sociology but her lessons make no sense, she rambles. Bases her lessons off of email forwards and things she takes from other sociology lectures. Just really a terrible teacher, very unprofessional. Her UofC rating is 1.6/5 thats closer to her grade
Just Bad!
Just bad all around.Would not recommend her if you actually want to learn anything.
Nancy is a total kook but an easy class all around. She can be a bit hard to pin down for help/questions and slightly hard to understand but class will never be boring and the assingments for the entry level soci are a walk in the park.
Good Prof..
Loved her as a prof!! I don't know why she has so many bad reviews...but I thought she was great. She is really understanding and student focused. She is definitely eccentric, but her quirky attitude made class fun. Only thing is that there is a lot of group work...so if that's not your thing than you may not enjoy the class.
Loved Dr. Doetzel. She is funny and interactive with the class. She is helpful and understanding with student issue. Loved her.
Amazing professor, extremely knowledgeable in all areas. Very approachable, and willing to help. Textbook use is mandatory, be prepared to read.
I found Doetzel to be a great prof! I LOVE her passion for sociology and think that even though she talks too much about her personal experiences it is a good way to learn as well. She never uses he textbook to teach just powerpoint and stories. But the text book is a mandatory read. you will fail learning celebrations without reading it.GREAT PROF
Nancy is one of the most inspiring, entertaining, and loving people I have ever met. She makes the class a family, helps anyone in need, and makes the class a hilarious and loving place. Lots of group work, but if you don't like interacting with people then why are you taking sociology? Lots of textbook reading, but class time is more important.
I took intro with nancy and ended up taking the 1103 as well. i loved nancy, although she is a bit out there the way of learning stuck with me and helped me learn better to my ability.
This class is all about interacting and doing group work. She makes the class into a small family. Its a great class if you enjoy learning things outside the textbook. She gives hints in class! If you attend her class and do all the work its an easy A all the assignments are do able and not hard at all! She made me enjoy learning and thats no easy!
Nancy is a wonderful person. However, her style of teaching was not beneficial to me at all. Her class is mandatory but also disorganized. There is way too much group work. Nancy is not a horrible prof, but definitely avoid if you have the chance!
Nancy is a terrible prof. She doesn't read your papers that you spend hours on and requires so much group work AND at the end of the semester she STILL didn't know our names!
Interesting and fun teacher. Be prepared for a lot of group work and you will get to know your group members very well. The class was enjoyable to attend and I would definitely recommend her to others
Nancy is a genuine and lovely person. Her personality really shows through when you talk to her one on one, and you can fully appreciate why many people absolutely adore her. It can be somewhat difficult to understand the class expectations at times, however she is always more than willing to help clarify anything for you. A true gem she is.
Nancy is a really great person and all, but her classes are so disorganized. One second she'll talk about her life, then she remembers to play a movie (which we only watch 5 min of and then tells us to watch at home) and then back to her life. Her test are hard and confusing. She is hilarious but not a great prof. Always losing/forgetting stuff too
Nancy was not a good prof at all. Her class had way too much group work, she didn't teach us anything expected us to learn it from the textbook. The class was called Sociology of Aging but I learned very little. Disorganized and all over the place.
awesome! ive taken al her classes
Nancy is nice but she doesn't know how to teach. There was a lot of group work and text book work. But all she did was ramble about herself and not really explain concepts in the course.
I have never known a professor of an intro course to be so involved and genuinely interested in the welfare of her students. Truly one of the best professors I have had.
Nancy is an angel, but she is very disorganized and all over the place. A lot of groupwork and she only ever remembered the name of 3 students in our class. Class jumped from discussing her life, to watching 5 min of a video, to powerpoints. Every week we'd have a "learning celebration" (quiz) that can be very confusing if you miss a single word.
Nancy was a great prof. Honestly made me love going to school first semester. she is a very passionate women and she really got me interested in sociology. Highly recommend. love her (: Class is mandatory and if you pay attention, her midterm and final is easy as pie!
Nancy is an amazing proff. I have taken every class she offers!!! She does lots of group work and is fun and approachable. If your a participator that loves sociology this class is you. Nancy is such a smart & well- rounded person. She provides all tools for success in her classes! Overall amazing proff!!!!!!
Nice prof. Work is relatively easy. A lot of group work. Incredibly relaxed marker on exams (regularly takes questions off the exam if enough people get them wrong), however that could be because her tests are poorly written. Doesn't mark essays very well. She doesn't spend a lot of time teaching though, so expect to memorize the textbook solo.
Nancy is very nice and approachable, but I didn't learn a single thing in her class. It felt like a grade 6 class, because it didn't seem like she took any of it seriously. For every weekly test, she gave us the choice to do it individually or as a group. It was definitely an easy A, but she's not organized at all and barely teaches. Read the text!
Nancy is confusing and very disorganized. Her lectures were not relevant to the textbook what so ever. Each class was about her personal life experiences (which were very interesting) and would end with a 5 minute review of the chapter. She is an inspiring woman but the expectations of her class are all over the place.
Nancy is a horribly unorganized professor. I didn't take one useful piece of information away from her course. She wastes class time with her own "philosophical" life stories and experiences and calls tests "learning celebrations." I felt as if I had transported back to junior high. We pay adult prices for your courses, don't treat us like children
Nancy is a professor that really lifts your spirits through her lectures and activities that she gets you to do (specifically in SLGY 2273). She can be a little confusing with the assignments at times, just ask her for clarification and you'll get it, and get a good mark (depending on how much effort you put into it). Overall she's good!
This was apparently a sociology of ageing course however this is the only university class i have ever taken where i felt i have learnt absolutely nothing. She spends 0 time on the material, and then she tests you on it. I went to every class and she did 1 powerpoint, the rest is spent on doing meaningless, and i mean MEANINGLESS assignments
I can say with certainty that I have learned absolutely nothing in this class. Lectures are almost non-existent and the ones that she gives are simply a series of riddled off facts with a sprinkling of pseudoscience. Hope for a good group (which she assigns) as you'll be doing 80% of your work with them. Oh, and she is terribly disorganized.
I chose the hot tamale because she is a beautiful person inside and out. She is incredibly gifted and inspires people to do the same. If you get the chance, take her class and she will alter your perspective on the world. 1010!
She is by far my favorite professor! She is really understanding of student's needs, as the final was written in a classroom, quizzes were 1%, and sometimes done as a group, and group presentations were easy 100%. Her lectures are entertaining, and she gives you the notes as well as a clear study guide for the midterm and final.
Nancy is a very nice lady but this class was way too much work (group work which can be tough if some members are not showing up ever!!) for an intro class. Definitely not an easy A as she does not spend time going over concepts and expects mass memorization for midterm and final. I like Nancy but would not recommend this class, too disorganized!
So disappointed with this course. She does not go over concepts at all, and all work is group work. You will not be fairly assessed for your work. You buy a $200 textbook, and the course is 100% self taught from that book. Instructional fee should be waived. Such a waste of time. Take this course with another prof!!
Changes plans a lot. Pretty much a self taught class, you need the textbook to pass the midterm and final- Doesn't go over anything. Coming to class is essential to passing and the class drags on most of the time. Lots of group discussions and group projects with people who do not show up.
Nancy was an amazing prof. However, she was very disorganized but really cared about her students. She really wanted all of her students to do well in her class and would do a lot to help and achieve a great grade. Her study guide for the midterm and final was very helpful. I would take another course with her again if I can.
Nancy is by far the most unique prof at MRU so be prepared for an experience you will not find in any other university. Her approach to teaching is very different and she wants to see everyone succeed. Essentially the entire semester is done in groups (including the paper) so if you like group work you'll do awesome and if not then maybe avoid.
A very nice professor , but lacks in explaining assignments . Was disorganized and changed plans a lot. Put people in a permanent group for the whole semester even if you say you were uncomfortable in the group or it was hard to work with them she brushes it off and doesn't do much to help. Classes are long & not useful for learning the material.
Anyone who doesn't like Nancy has forgotten that learning can be fun. She uses group projects and volunteer acts to teach altruism and family issues (aka the whole point of sociology)! Powerpoint lectures get real old, real fast. Her active approach to learning was a blessing and woke me out of a 4 yr stupor. Very generous with extensions! 3
Nancy seems like she knows what she's talking about, but when it comes to actually teaching the material she really falls short. She puts up powerpoints and goes by them much to fast to write anything down., which is very demotivating. I learned everything by reading the textbook on my own. plus she relies too much on the online quizes that glitch
Nancy is the most unorganized professor I have ever had. I don't think she ever knows what we're doing and it makes going to class really frustrating. She relies too much on slides but doesn't post them and doesn't give enough time to write them down. Just read the textbook and you'll be alright, you're not going to get any information from her.
I've had experience with a narcissist and I can honestly say I think Nancy one (in the kindest sense). Goes off about things that are pseudoscience. She has her own agenda that she brings with her to class. Tells stories that are straight from cheesy Facebook posts made to get likes. Get prepared for group projects & "Learning Celebrations".
She is not lecture heavy but an easy grader. Have to do a lot of self studying and be prepared to discuss a lot in class. Involves you in group projects, assigns the group herself at the start of the course. You basically do everything with your group even sit together. Easy course, makes it fun. Goes off topic but never boring. approachable&caring
Nancy is honestly such an amazing prof! She might go off topic at times, but she does make the course work easy and is very helpful. She does review lectures a week before the midterms which are sooo helpful, (you'll get an A) Her teaching is different, although it was very enjoyable. You'll enjoy this class, especially with Nancy. :)
She is honestly one of the best profs I had so far. She's super caring towards every one of her students. She's very inspiration and goes beyond teaching from the textbook. She gives out pop quizzes but as long as you do your readings, you should be fine!
Nancy was kind but I didn't learn much in her class. Most of the learning has to be done independently from the textbook if you want to pass the exams. She puts you into groups at the beginning of the semester and you are forced to do 70% of the course work with them. Puts up powerpoint slides for 5 seconds and moves on.
I don't know how anyone could say something bad about Nancy! She has got to be one of the nicest people I have met in my entire life. She is a fair marker and although there is group work she provides a decent amount of time to finish it. There are pop quizzes but often lets the class do them in groups and they are easy if you do the reading.
Nancy is AMAZING! I have already taken 3 courses with her and she is the absolute best prof I've ever had at MRU. She is easy going and is understanding through any kind of situation. There is a lot of group work, but you'd be crazy to think that it isn't useful for the course. EASY A!!!!!!
Nancy is such a sweet person, she really cares about the students. She makes sure to bring in speakers so there is interesting content to write about. Yes, the course is mostly based on group work, but it makes the class super easy.
Nancy is very disorganized can seems like she has no idea what she is teaching. If you read the text book that is gonna be your only hope to pass the class. Also you better hope that you do not get bad group members because mine did not do a thing to help with group assignments. She needs to make a group member grading page.
Nancy is the kindest, most caring prof! She teaches you to be a kinder person, and assignments are often centred around the good you bring into the world. Class is always fun and goes by quickly. Nancy clearly wants everyone to succeed. Most of the work is done in groups, attendance is taken, but show up to class and do the work, it's an easy A.
Probably the easiest A i've ever gotten! She was super sweet, and gave opportunities for extra credit. The class was kinda disorganized but I really do recommend Nancy, she is super sweet and it is pretty much a guaranteed A. You do have to show up to class, because she does take attendance and there is A LOT of group work but it wasn't bad at all
Best professor ever!. You could go to her for anything, and she will help you all. Such a caring, and compassionate lady!. Learnt a lot from her.
This is the second time that Ive taken Dr.D. If you attend class, you wont need to read the text. Her lectures are based on active learning, which makes it easier to learn and understand concepts. One of the best profs Ive had and would very much take her again!
Nancys class is unorganized and repetitive. I honestly feel like I didnt learn anything although I received an easy A. If youre serious about your education and value learning something then I wouldnt take her classes. If you want an A then take her class. Hella group projects. Hella pointless and boring projects. Shes a sweet lady
Such a caring and passionate professor. Her active learning really helps when it comes to understanding the concepts. Its an easy A if you come to every class, as participation matters. A lot group participation.
I loved Nancy! She's super helpful and understanding which makes her classes enjoyable to attend. As long as you show up and put in the time and effort, you'll likely get an A which is nice. Group projects are heavy, but give a great opportunity to make friends that you'll have throughout the semester! Definitely would take a class with her again!
Best prof you could ever have. So kind and caring. Easiest A you will ever get. If I could take all my classes with her I would.
Nancy is nice but she is very unorganized and not good at lecturing which is why 90% of the class is group work. classes get repetitive and it's like she teaches at a kindergarten level. For someone who has a PhD, she just doesn't seem that smart. People take her for an easy A which it is, but it's not a class you will feel you gained knowledge.
Nancy is a very kind and caring person. She provides many examples of life experiences. 90% of class is group work( group presentation, projects, class assignments etc..) Her slides are pre-made and she reads right from them and her exams are from a test bank. Overall an easy A if you show up and participate in her class.
Dr. Doetzel sticks in my mind as one of my favorite professors throughout university. She was incredibly inspiring and thorough in her teaching, and fair with expectations as well as her ability to answer questions/meet. I would 100% choose to study under her again versus the other professors I've had. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.
This class is the definition of "easy A" so long as you show up, participate in group discussions, and finish the assigned group work. She pushes active learning and focuses on discussion instead of classic lectures which ends up being pretty fun. It's a super relaxed environment and she's a very generous grader. Overall I had a great time.
Dr. Doetzel is an absolute gem! Shes an easy marker however, there are many pop quizzes based on the textbook. The papers are really easy. Would absolutely take another class with her again.
She is a very kind person but I feel that I did not learn much about what the class was supposed to be about. It was a family course but pretty much all she taught us was how to be a good person/sociologist, which is good and all but not so much for those who are not soc majors, and I paid for and expected a family course, so was kind of let down.
Lectures are easy but a bit dry. She keeps things interesting by adding in her personal experiences. Thorough reading of the textbook is definitely needed to do well on the midterm and final. Lots of group work- be patient!
Nancy (Dr. D) is great, and made the course fun. Sometimes she can seem unorganized, so just ask for clarification.
Nancy is awesome and made Mass Communication fun. Sometimes she can seem unorganized, so just ask for clarification. Group-work heavy, so it helped that I had a great group.
Social movements was fascinating, I learned a lot. Nancy is great, she pushes you to be a good person to yourself and others.
Nancy is a very nice prof but the amount of "pop" quizzes she hands out is unreal. She expects students to show up EVERY CLASS and will never cancel a class when there is nothing to do. She is not very organized which can be frustrating. If you want no final and somewhat of a chill class, take this class.
Nancy is by far one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life! She is the easiest A possible, a lot of people are scared because her classes are very heavily based on group work & participation but she makes it so easy, and if you stick it through you are practically guaranteed an A. I have taken 3 classes with her, very very easy & enjoyable
I loved Nancy. She is very kind and loves to see you do your best. Sometimes the classes are very chaotic and instructions arent very clear but it is a great course for boosting your GPA as long as you attend and participate!! I was assigned more papers than I was anticipating.
Nancy is one of the most amazing sociology profs! Her lectures are fun, inspiring and intriguing. She does a lot of group projects and thats how I made some amazing life long friends! She gets you to think about society and how you can really make a difference! I would definitely recommend her to anyone!
Nice, sweet lady but is so unorganized and hardly ever teaches anything knowledgeable. It's an easy A with the amount of group work she assigns- great for freeloaders, but if you want to attend a class you'll actually learn something from independently, don't take this class.
Online class with her is stressful- unorganized and hardly teaches. She changed the written portion set-up 10 mins before the midterm! She had good intentions- changed it into a group assignment. But for those who worked on the essay question prior to the midterm practically went bonkers, knowing that all the work they did, was now useless.
I have had Nancy for in person classes before and this semester online because of covid she is ten times worse. Classes are very unorganized, she does zero teaching. she has many technical difficulties every class and doesn't know a thing about technology. She doesn't know anything about her own quizzes & midterm and it's always a mess.
test each Tuesday based on the chapter. a few group projects and tons of communication with the group so steer clear if it isn't your forte. heavy on community and cameras being on. She's sweet but gets on my nerves a bit. if you miss 3 classes you may not be allowed to continue the class so beware! bunch of quizzes, midterm/final, non-cumulative
Hands down the sweetest prof! Heavy on textbook use and class discussions, participation matters. Lots of groups work, easy to pass if you pay attention and participate.
Great prof, super friendly. Only thing I didn't enjoy was that most of our learning was textbook based and very little teaching done in class. That being said attendance is mandatory as you'll do group discussions. Pretty easy class, and informative.
Nancy is nice, loves to talk. But I felt like she was very disorganized and all over the place. She does use great examples in class though.
She is so unorganized it's completely frustrating. And she makes you do a bunch of things that are not even graded. She also does not teach you but uses class time for class discussions. But she marks really easily. Also, test MC questions are from a test bank. She is a terrible teacher. Do not take her if you want to actually learn.
Super Nice! I had her before for SLGY 1101, very unorganized not familiar with technology, but very understanding. Uses textbook a lot, as well as several videos and marks, come from group discussions. Participation gets you marks, and a very easy marker as long as you complete assignment
Dr. D is extremely kindhearted and wants students to do well in her class more than anything, that is very clear. Light participation marks, one midterm, and one non-cumulative final. Honestly a breeze of a course, the readings are very long but not super heavy in terms of content difficulty. A lot of common sense is used in this course.
Nancy was amazing. She cares about her students so much, and the course outline makes the class sound super dull, but it isn't. She grades off many things, is very forgiving, and will give bonus marks. She uses active learning as her teaching style, which helps students feel engaged in the material. I 100% recommend taking her courses.
Get ready to read and be active in class. If you enjoy that you will like her class as you have to talk to classmates rather than her teach. Quiz every week but all the answers are on quizlet and same with both midterms. Overall she is very nice but you have to do a lot of work to receive little marks. Also two group presentations but easy topics.
She takes attendance every single class and you lose marks if you are not there. There is also a million group projects and a lot of discussion board writing. Overall she is a sweet lady.
It is definitely easy to get a good grade in this class however I wouldn't suggest it. It's based on active learning which caused some problems. We didn't learn anything in class but was always mandatory. There were a few occasions where she disrespected students and even laughed at their concern. She means well but this course was a little messy.
Easy marker. Participation is emphasized. Lots of things graded on, but worth little. Lots of group discussions.
Doetzel relies heavily on Holistic Science from questionable sources such as self-proclaimed scientist Gregg Braden with no published academic research. You have to agree with Doetzel to receive good marks. Doetzel has bragged about how Registrar and her Dept are investigating her on grade inflation. I would not take another class with her.
Emphasizes participation, although some people don't prefer this, I found I retained course info really well. Lots of group projects/presentations. Gives clear feedback. Really easy to do well in this class, just do your homework and participate.
Dr. Doetzel really does care about her students and their progress. Attendance is mandatory and a lot of your grade is based on participation. All of the content is taught through the students, she does not post her own powerpoint slides or lectures. It was difficult to learn the content and to study as there was not much direction for exams.
She only wants to be called Dr, she will get mad if you call her by her first name. Calls your tests "celebrations" which are worth about 35% each. She does not provide chapter notes, she tells you to read the textbook for notes which are based on your weekly chapter quizzes. Overall an easy class as it is common sense but I wouldn't take her again
Dr. D is one of the best soci profs at this school. She teaches in an active learning style, so all of our classes were group project based. The people who choose, or stay in, Dr. D's classes know this so they are usually good team workers! Dr. D is a sweet lady. She doesn't grade very hard. And there is opportunity for easy grades.
Nancy is a quirky but very sweet woman. Attendance and participation matter A LOT in her classes. She uses the active learning model in her classes, so prepare to talk a lot. Easy marker, relatively easy exams. Lots of opportunities for extra, small grades. I would recommend Nancy.
Very nice and easy going professor. You won't learn ANY course material in lectures, yet attendance is necessary. Read textbook THOROUGHLY. Do not take if you cannot learn in an "active learning" style. Very different from other courses.
Participation is mandatory in this class. She is a very nice prof. I would just say to be prepared to teach yourself. Most of her classes are taught via the students themselves doing presentations on the chapters. So some work in that sense. Easy in the sense that the course load is not heavy. Easy A+ by simply showing up.
You will be teaching yourself this course. She's a really nice person but not a very good professor. I think I would learn more from just reading the textbook on my own time than attending this class. She will make you write the chapter quizzes BEFORE she "covers" the chapter. However, the quizzes are open book and relatively easy.
She literally tells you that it's an active learning class so it's not lecture heavy. You do have to read the textbook it's not that difficult and it's easy to follow,, she's very kind and she tends to ramble but she's overall a cool prof.
Her classes are taught in an active learning style which means you do everything in teams. You teach yourself the content at home and have to complete open book tests before your first class that week. Its almost like a completely self taught class and makes no sense why you would go to class but if you miss more then 4 you will be emailed.
Nancy really wants you to build a "community" in her class. There is lots of assignments that take up a decent amount of time thats only worth 2% of your final grade but she is an easy marker. She will talk about other students behind their back and she thinks she knows everything. Her class could be a GPA booster if your ok with all of that.
Dr. D is an amazing Prof who cares deeply about the success of her students in all areas. Active learning is not for everyone and if you end up in a bad group it's tough. She grades fair and is very engaging. Someone was annoyed about Dr.D requesting she be addressed as "Dr." well it's called respect and she deserves it. Attendance is mandatory.
Don't. You will do everything yourself with no guidance whatsoever. Quizzes every week before she even teaches the content, which she actually doesn't even do. So many useless assignments that are worth virtually nothing but require a fair bit of effort. Just don't.
Had 2 classes with Dr. D throughout my University and loved both classes! Attendance and participation is mandatory. If you don't like group work do not take this class. If you want to feel inspired by the person who is teaching, hear incredible guest speakers speak and be in a safe environment, this is the class for you.
Say what you guys want but Dr. D is amazing. She is so kind, and has a good way of teaching which is active learning and it is so much better than listening to profs read off of a powerpoint. She is understanding and you will get a good grade if you put in the effort.
On paper it is an easy class. EVERYTHING is group work and you don't pick the groups. Little or no feedback is given. Assignments and tests are easy but you need to attend lectures for participation grade. No final!!! But midterm was random textbook facts. Lectures are disorganized. Doesn't answer your questions well if at all.
Group based and active learning. Participation and attendence are mandatory. Be prepared to teach yourself. The class itself is not hard but the weighting is split up weird, with presentations worth 3% or 1% but they require a lot of effort and group prep. Thankfully I had a good group. Not terrible but wouldn't recommend.
all of the work is group project based, attendance is mandatory or else she'll email you. goes on unnecessarily long tangents and her planning is disorganized. she's a nice lady, but not very good in planning and time management.
She is a good prof but there are a lot of presentations that worth so little of your grade, it doesn't have finals, but it has 2 midterms, each midterm is divided into 2 parts one group worth 4%, and the other one is individual 30%, then last midterm is divided into two as well group part worth 5%, individually worth 15%
Take her if you need a blowoff course. No finals but you will learn nothing from her and you'll have to self-teach. You will also be stuck with a group the whole semester and 99% of works are group based. Her learning celebrations feature content that have nothing to do with the course. Makes you "learn" about pseudosciences and known quacks.
Dr. D's class is participation-heavy, but she's a sweet prof who makes it easy to do well. Just stay engaged, work with your group, and let unstuck AI help with study prep - you'll be on your way to an easy A.
Easy and fun course if you work with your group!
So unorganized its crazy. Half the time no one knows what is due or what you have to do.
Dr D is the best. She is such a fun gal. Her stories and life experiences are wild. I absolutely adore her and hope to get her for more classes.
Nice, wacky prof. we watched 20y/o boring documentaries (+pseudoscience & preaching spirituality). U have to teach urself, not b/c shes bad at it, but b/c she literally barely teaches. Groups have to present on what we learn from the txtbook, then we go in a circle talking about it. SUCH an easy A+, great to make friends+public speaking practice!
Her attempt at using "active learning" was just not working. I remember nothing in that class and had to learn everything myself. Her quizzes and midterms are made by AI and half of the questions don't even make sense. Thankfully I had great teammates cause she did not put any effort into teaching at all. At the very least, she's an easy grader.
Makes you read the textbook and do the quiz before the class so you're basically teaching yourself, she said she would give chapter summaries but barely did and when she did it wasn't helpful, didn't post it on d2l and only read some points. Felt like she didn't even know the course material she was supposed to be teaching. Very disorganized
Literally used ai to make tests. Doesn't post learning material although she says she wants to make learning easy. Literally just plays us videos most classes and sits at her desk and eats. Didn't feel like she taught me anything and I taught myself.. waste of money.
Nancy is super nice but extremely disorganized. I would recommend the class if you are willing to do group work/textbook readings. Expect to do the learning yourself. She only taught 1 chapter (the rest was peer teaching), didn't provide slides, and didn't make the tests herself. Still, she's an easy grader and the content is straightforward.
Pretty disorganized & forgetful sometimes. NOT tech savvy. Lots of group projects & presentations (u get assigned a group and ur stuck w/ them for the whole Semester). Expects EVERYONE to contribute to class discussions. 99% of tests were online. Made us read a lot of textbook content so ur kinda self-teaching. But such an easy GPA booster class!
Doetzel's active learning class relied on group projects all semester with the same group so if your teammates don't pull their weight, you'll feel stressed and pressured. Overall, Doetzel was unhelpful when I brought concerns to her about my group and you'll have to self teach everything because she won't teach.
This entire class was group work based on her active learning style. Basically all the assignments are presentations that are extremely tedious and have so many little tasks to complete to get full marks, but then they all end up being like 2-4% of your grade which felt like a waste of time. She doesn't lecture and is EXTREMELY disorganized.
PARTICIPATION IS ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY. It felt like high school, if you missed more than 4 classes or 80% of her lectures you would get a talking to about your future in the class. She never really lectured and showed tons of pointless videos. I was excited to learn about families, but there was very little teaching on them. Just awful all around.
Doesn't teach the lesson at all, you're responsible for teaching yourself, she gives no helpful feedback on projects (worth very little but require lots of prep) and has no respect for students privacy or personal lives. She's forgetful/disorganized and very particular about attendance. She's also very group work based
ATTENDANCE IS SO MANDATORY. I enjoyed this class because I work well with other people, if you do not you MUST take another prof. So important to show up and take notes because most of what you are tested on are things from lectures. Easy class but you have to stay on top of everything (weekly quizzes, projects).
