Sweet wpman and very kind. She definately is a great teacher. She cares about her students and if someone doesnt understand, she will take the time to help you understand it. TAKE HER!
Dr. Duke is an excellent teacher! You will learn more about History in her class than all of your prior History classes combined. However, her tests are all essay and you will need to study hard. It was well worth it though!!
I enjoyed her class, all you really have to do is take good notes and study, and you'll be just fine.
Dr. Duke is a great teacher. She's really sweet and willing to help out her students if they need extra help.
Amazing professor! She's the sweetest woman who is more than willing to help her students. Take her class!
If you?re serious about learning history take Dr. Duke! I?ve learned more about history in her class than ever before. Just be prepared for the test and read directions carefully!
She is a very, very nice lady; she is always willing to help her students, I loved her class very much and I learned a lot with her class.
Dr. Duke has no control of her class. We had 9 people in our class to start, and she couldn't control them. She ended up not being able to teach us everything necessary for our second test and no one did well on it. Her class was loud and chaotic. If you study, and she has taught whats on the test, the tests are easy.
To call Dr Duke odd would be an understatement. Good teach, but it is true, no control of class. Does make history interesting. Best history teacher on campus, though.
She does have class pets. If she likes you - good for you. If she doesn't - she won't even remember your name. I did ok in the class - she made it interesting. But, not the best I have had at DSC
Great teacher! Very helpful!! tests are easy as long as you pay attention! She makes history interesting! also a research paper at the end of semester but thats also fun as long as you are prepared!
She is a great teacher. Let me make up all of the work that I needed to. Tests are not that bad but you have to study. Tests are not multiple choice but topics are interesting and I didn't like history before her class at all. Each test has an essay part. There are only 3 tests and 1 8 page research paper in her class each worth 25% of your grade.
She is a nice lady. But, can you be brilliant and an airhead? She is smart, but flaky at times. Tends to talk to the class like we are 12 year olds. Not full control of the class. But very nice.
American history. She is soooooooooooo hard. All essay on tests. BUT just as she is really hard, she's really the most compassionate teacher in the world. She cares about her studnts an literally helped me out personally in so many ways. I cant wait to show my grandmother to her because she has truly impacted my life greatly
Wow, class was really hard. She is nice, but I don't think she realizes how tough she makes it. Tests are beyond tough and scary. Very nice lady, but a brutal teacher.
Dr. Duke is a brilliant teacher and she teaches everything that is on her study guide. I learned a lot in her classes and hope she moves on to bigger and better schools.
Class and tests are very hard.Dr Duke is very odd -but likeable. Just be prepared for her tough tests, study hard, write a lot and you will be ok.
Professor Duke is a wonderful professor! I would truly recommend her to anyone who needs a history credit. She's always there to help and is very knowledgeable in what she teaches. She's very considerate although you do need to study for her exams. I've never learned as much in a history class as I did in Professor Dukes! Amazing all-around lady!
Prof Duke is very knowledgable in her teaching, also lectures are interesting. But you have to study a lot for exams. Overall good and nice professor. I would recommend her for any history class.
She is a wonderful teacher and knows what she is talking about. Even though her tests are difficult, they are still passable if you study. Her class is definitely worth taking. :)
She's a super sweet lady!!
She's a super sweet lady!!
She's the best!!!
Ms Duke knows her stuff. However, gets off track regularly while teaching. Tests are brutal. Not the best teacher, but not the worst.
I enjoyed taking Dr. Duke. She is a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend taking her class. I absoutely can't stand history, but Dr. Duke has made me love it! :) I will definitely take her again for a history class.
all test have study guilds, a few simple papers and one large project. All test are essay style but they are simple if you study the study guild. she is extremly helpful and one of my fave teachers.
Amazing teacher!!! She tells history like its a soap opera it gives you a chance to not only remember it all but also understand an enjoy it! All test are in the blue books but if you study all of the study guide its impossible to fail! Super nice lady and is always available to help her students. I took her class for AMH2020 and AMH2010 and loved both classes, 100%best history professor at DSC!
She does explain history in class in an interesting way. But her assignments are confusing and she is a tough grader. I understand history, but I don't understand the class. Very confusing with what she expects from you.
Dr.Duke is such a sweet lady you can tell that she obviously loves her job by the way she talks about history.I had this class for 3 hours and not a minute of them was spent being bored in this class. She is a harsh grader but if you do the study guides the exams arent that bad. I would definitely recommend taking her.
GREATEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!! I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO GET INTO SOME OF HER OTHER CLASSES! LOVE THE WAY SHE TEACHES, SHES AMAZING! LOVE HER!
if you pay attention and take adequete notes, you'll be fine. there is one big paper and one big project, both of which are beyond annoying but not impossible. it's a little difficult, because she expects a lot from you. but she's a very nice lady and her study guides are extremely helpful. if you study from them, you'll do great.
Duke is very passionate about history which makes her a great teacher. Her tests are hard but she provides study guides which are great. She is a tough grader on papers but is always willing to revise everything for her students. If your willing to work hard and learn some history, take Duke!
Dr. Duke is a phenomenal teacher. I wouldn't suggest missing class because her classes contain a lot of information. Bring a notebook to class! I averaged 4-6 FULL pages of notes each class.
Make no bones about it you will have to complete your work. But if writing papers is not your strongest ability she will go over backward to help you!! Just ask thats all and yes she talks a mean game but she not mean she is just pushing you to get it done. Very helpful Thanks Dr.Duke
Dr Duke is passionate about her work and loves history, so she is a very good teacher. A big problem I have with her is that she will sometimes allow her political views to skew into her teaching. Other than that, fantastic.
Interesting class.
Dr Duke knows her history and does make the lectures interesting. But, her tests are VERY hard, so you better study. Also, she is kinda socially awkward - an odd bird, but nice enough.
go to class, take notes, study a lot, and read. If you do not like any of those things and the will to learn history, do not take this class
Can't lie this class is difficult, but so worth it. I've taken her American history class as well. She is an amazing teacher, but need to study. She isn't going to just hand you an A. For those saying her classes are difficult, I guarantee they did not put efficient time into their studies. It is college not high school! Rock on Dr. Duke!
I would never take her again. You read her power points and the book and you wont know like half the questions on it. Shes a super harder grader, with lots of petty assignments. You will hate this class. I don't know where she makes up the test questions, but it is not from the book or power points. I would never take her again. Shes terrible.
This class is ridiculous. There is more work in it than all of my other classes combined. Discussions are twice a week, and expect to write 1000 words per topic. Lots of reading, which doesn't even include the book review. My book was only 500 pages and the paper was 3,000 words.
The beginning of this class was really nice. Once it got into the semester it has been the most stressful class yet! The only things you get graded for are the tests and the essay stuff. There needs to be more than just that. The tests are really hard. Yes, I do study really hard.
Terrible class. The PowerPoints are mislabeled, so you will end up studying for the wrong chapter. Teacher forgets to open discussions (there are 21 of them). She does not grade papers by the rubric, but by whether she likes the content or not. Avoid at all costs, you will hate life. She makes her quizzes and words them poorly.
I took 1865 to present - Be prepared to read & write a lot!! Mrs. Duke is clear on what her expectations are. Sometimes she would take a couple days to respond to my emails. BUT I would recommend her.
Dr. Duke is an amazing professor. I took her for AMH2010 and AMH2020. She cares about history and her students. The class is tough and the tests are too but you've just got to study and show up to class. Also, ask her for help if you need it. She's always more than happy to help.
Dr. Duke was a great teacher who I really enjoyed getting taught by. She knows so much about history its almost crazy. Her tests are hard and she is a strict grader, but take really good notes and write down and remember everything you can and complete the study guide you will do good. The group projects you need to be careful who you pick.
Dr. Duke is a great professor to have. She is very knowledgeable in her area, which is great. She's very clear on what she is looking for in the assignments. She tells you exactly what she wants and what the exams are on. To put it simply, if you attend class often, study and avoid procrastinating you'll do well.
Took this class in Summer B. It's a lot of work - but it was a short semester. Dr. Duke gives good feedback and is engaged in discussions. You definitely need the book and be prepared to do a lot of writing assignments - not all papers necessarily but discussions, homework, etc. But if you do the work you can get a good grade.
She makes you feel like your questions are irrelevant, and you feel out of place when you ask questions.
Not a bad professor, but difficult to get in touch with. Had her for AMH2020 online, and on the syllabus there are two emails provided and a phone number. I tried all of these methods multiple times and never received an answer. Not a hard class but it would be nice for the professor to respond, it was like she didn't care.
I have taken Dr. Duke twice now and and she an AMAZING teacher. Her lectures are like movies and you will never think that history is boring again. Don't be surprised when you are assigned a group paper or a 15 page individual paper. Go to office hours, head her advice and the class is an easy A.
She's a good teacher, knows her stuff, but she is very tough grader and is very specific when you take her exams. She will take off points if you do not be specific and add names, etc. Lectures are pretty boring and need to take good notes!! She makes you do group projects, in which you will write long essays present with powerpoints, etc.
Do not take AMH2010 if you don't prefer group projects. Almost 400 points towards your final grade are based on your group powerpoint, 20 paged paper and 5 paged summary. Very lecture heavy, from bell to bell complete lecture, tests are hard if you do not study.
Dr. Duke is a really good teacher, but it's a very hard class and she is a tough grader. There's three test, where you have to know each term and write so much info on them, there's lots of projects you do with your group, including a 5-page essay for each member, so 20 in total, 5-page summary, and a powerpoint that you have to present.
This professor is insanely knowledgeable on history, and provides extremely vivid and detailed lectures. Prepare for lots of work in group projects, as well as studying crazy hard for her exams. Keep in touch with her and don't be afraid to ask her opinion; she is very open to helping. BUT-- IF YOU DON'T STUDY, YOU WILL FAIL.
I took this class online. It's definitely important to read the book & follow the instructions. Also, she pretty grades easily!
Lots and lots of reading, and even more writing! Many discussion boards that you absolutely have to have the textbook for. Huge papers worth 20% of your grade (around 8 pages or more of dense historical analysis). Never answers emails, ever, but is very accessible via office hours. Engaging lectures! Very clearly passionate about her subject.
Took U.S 1865 - online. Based on the majority of reviews about her physical class I would recommend it online. Assignments were discussions each week with a series of quizzes and one book report. Engaging topics and Duke was attentive in getting back to me.
Very interesting and friendly.
Okay so I enjoyed Dr. Dukes lectures they were informative and had PowerPoints to follow along, personally none of the notes were used for the online quizzes but rather for in class essays. I had to use the book and Quizlet for the quizzes. The group projects are fun and can be enjoyable but require a dedicated team willing to do the work.
Prof Duke is Phenomenal, lots of work but just do it
A lot of discussions but the quizzes are easy and they count as the tests. If you just write about the summary of the chapter in the discussion posts you don't even have to read the chapter.
Dr Duke is plenty nice, it is just the workload that seems unreasonable. I take the course online and between literature, economics, statistics and this course I do much more work for this class than any other class. There are many discussions, quizzes and papers, lots of busy work. For this class being elective, it is just WAY TOO MUCH.
I do not recommend Nancy Duke unless you want unnecessary work with unclear assignments. Absolutely no study guide the entire time. Her power points were very poor and had repetitive slides.. her tests were impossible and 50 questions each time. 2-3 discussion a week and they were SO tedious.
the class was online and she took forever to get our discussion posts in. we also had a huge group project and you cannot evaluate your partners, my group ended up getting a 70 this brought my A down to a B. the quizzes were extremely hard even with reading and taking notes from the chapters.
Took Dr Duke for an "elective history class". I didn't expect a 10 page paper in Chicago style and a 5 page paper for a midterm. However, she was great at answering questions and giving feedback. Gives lots of material! Use the material she gives for test but the textbook was more helpful for DBs. Lots of reading and writing.
Hardly responds to emails, her quizzes are 50 questions and are timed, doesnt give you rubrics.
I took Dr. Duke's AMH2020 Spring 2020 A 6 week class. LOTS of textbook reading and notes. Quizlet will be your lifesaver!! Four quizzes that add up as the "final exam". One 20 page group paper that will be graded harder on grammar than any English class, make sure you pick good group members that won't leave you out to dry! Study pass class w A!!
I took Dr. Duke's class last semester and I loved it! In order to take this class, you must be very organized because there are quite a lot of reading and writing assignments, but all the topics are pretty interesting so it won't be too hard. Before taking this class, I didn't really enjoy learning about early America, but now I love it.
NEVER taker AMH 2020 over the summer. Professor's are supposed to squeeze an entire semester's worth of work into the 6-week course, but most of them ease up. She did not. We had to do a 20 page group project in Chicago Turibian and I had at least one assignment due each day. Each one takes about an hour to do. Maybe she's better in person tho, idk
Dr. Duke isn't that bad, but 1 little mistake can drop your grade a lot. She is big on grammar and takes her time with grading. Oh yea, and the extra credit she gives won't be added until the course is over. Speaking more on extra credit, so far it is a maximum of 5 points added to a quiz only. The five points are great but doesn't help in the end
Would NOT recommend at all. Thats all I have to say considering I worked my butt off for this B-. I absolutely love history but after her course Im rethinking that. She is very nice though just has a smart mouth, not to me though yall be safe.
heavy assignments every day. so much reading that i cant keep up with my other classes. 20 page essay with a group i had to pick, that wont respond to my emails. discussions are very bland and dont have many questions to go off of. no help regulating all the discussions, tests, reading, 20 page essay & other classes & working full time.
This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. I've been a straight A student my entire life, and this was the first class that I was scared I wouldn't pass. There were 18 discussions boards, many tests, and a 25-page group project. There are no resources to assist learning, so if learning only from a textbook isn't your thing, good luck.
Beware of the 20 page group project! There's also another 5 page essay! All the tests are somewhat difficult, especially if you can't afford the book. There's ALOT of discussion posts and you're expected to write a detailed post every time and reply to one other classmate. Book is expensive and prof. doesn't supply PowerPoints for all chapters.
Dr. Duke mainly relied on lectures only and rambled on in class. If you're looking for a class to teach yourself in this is for you! No actual interesting assignments that engaged the students. Just lectures, discussions and writing.
Very many assignments, a lot of busy work. Took it accelerated and was very stressful. Had a good personality and extended a few due dates/ gave second chances. Was a good prof but its just a harder class.
. Throughout the semester I emailed her countless times, none of which were replied back to. The test were also very hard because there was no content to go off of, the test material wasnt even in the textbook, also so much discussion boards all of which required a small essay and two replies. No late submissions are accepted either. Class sucked
I took this class online at an accelerated speed, and this is the most unorganized class I have ever taken. There are no clear grading rubrics, no outline of assignments, a 20-page group paper with no instructions, and when I e-mail questions, I got no real answer. History is already a hard subject for me, but the teacher seemed to make it worse.
I had been taking this class for a few weeks and finally the group project started a need to be talked about. 20-25 pages with 5 people. The due date for your first draft is followed quickly by a 5 page research essay. I never liked papers but this class made me change my ways about how I read a syllabus. For your own sanity stay away.
Not a bad class, but not my favorite. The 20-page essay with my team was pretty stressful. Besides that, the quizzes and Discussions were pretty easy. Just stay on top of your work and this class is an easy A.
Took a 6 week class, would probably transfer colleges before I took her again. Little to no responses, changes the date for important assignments on a whim halfway through the course, a nit-picky grader. 20 paged GROUP research paper for a class that's online and only 6 weeks. Probably the worst, most disorganized professor I have ever had.
I've taken her for AMH2020 and WOH2022. My biggest grips with her is lack of communication and she makes where she stands politically obvious. Can be very hard to contact, and in AMH she posted a discussion board about "transgender in the civil war". What the heck. Not a terrible professor but not one of my favorites.
This professor is not bad all you have to do is be organized and aware of your due dates. I took this course in person which helped me a lot to stay focused.
The quizzes are not formatted properly, there are spelling errors, the answers seem to be opinionated, the research paper is brutal, the midterm paper is brutal, the slideshow that is supposed to teach us the information lacking in the 100+ pages we read every week sometimes exist?
she is not very helpful all she wants you to do is do the group projects and thats it. make sure you understand the material because in class essays are for final and midterm. make friends in class youll need them
Dr. Duke is a good professor. Blue/Green Book Exams, needed full time for all exams. Need to read and do the paper/project work. Do all the work and stay organized and A is achievable.
DO NOT get her as a professor, if u do be prepared to write about 10 pages for this class alone. Along with her not responding to emails and discussion posts to ask questions about her assignments, this class is awful. Back to back essays are very annoying along with assignments that dont seem to do anything for your education. Bad teacher
UNORGANIZED, terrible, unreachable, reused syllabus w/ students names NOT in our class & calendar that didnt sync w/ this year, quizzes impossible to get 100%. I took the quiz twice:1st attempt-ran out of time; could only do half-got 60%. -Fair. Took it again, finished the entire test(same answers for 1st half from 1st attempt); still got 60%?
Lord, where do I start. Unorganized, pushed her own ideology onto students, not answering emails - I experienced every last bit of it during this class. Group project worth 30% of final grade is ridiculous. Why should I place my fate into the hands of a bunch of other children?
Professor Duke is very nice she is just very picky. There are lots of essays and group projects, along with working with others. One difficult thing about her class is she is either very clear with assignment directs, or very vague, leaving students with low grades due to confusion.
DONT TAKE HER CLASS!She assigns more work than she can keep up with.Won't know if you're doing it right til 4-5 assignments have been closed.Doesn't respond.Does a group project even online. Won't know your grade before course closes. Test are based on theories not facts.Takes about 3 hours per assgmnt to finish.15 discus,5 tests, final &25 pg paper
She wasnt bad We had a lot of discussions that I did good on I took B term so we had a discussion every 2 days. She uploads links you can use to answer the discussions so I never read the textbook, the exams were about 50 questions and pretty easy I wouldnt take her again because of group project my grade depending on 5 other people which is unfair
The work she gives is straightforward. When you need to reach her you should be able to as long as it is during her office hours. Submit the assignments and replies on time and you should have no problem earning an A.
Professor Duke's WOH2012 class is challenging, with many essays, group projects, and tough exams. The course material can be unclear, and the professor's communication is hit-or-miss. For study prep, I found Unstuckstudy and the textbook helpful in navigating the course requirements.
Tough grading, poor communication, heavy work load, quizzes/tests that don't align with lectures, and a big group project even for a 100% online course. The group project includes a 20 page paper, lesson plan, and a poster board that needs to be presented. Get ready to do lots of discussion posts and take quizzes that don't match up with notes.
