Lectures with a freudian emphasis
easy course, read book, lectures are weird
hard tests
she is full of energy and always has time to help
She is a nice teacher but her tests are on different material than in lecture
Lady should have her own TV show. Great Professor to have, and what a babe!
dude..this lady is the best...NO CONTEST!
Oh Nancy...what a prof!! You'll want to come to class just to see what she'll do
Very funny, you won't want to skip class.
fun&interesing. READ!!!Do Extra credit papers and you'll get an A
Very Different Style. A LOT OF READING. Test med. Online Quizes help a lot.
She is hilarious, teaches a different viewpoint and keeps you interested!
She is hella funny, but she isn't very clear as to what you are supposed to be learning or what is going to be on the test. She is pretty cool though

lectures do not have anything to do with the tests. tests are kind of difficult, only because you think that notetaking and class attentiveness might help, but it doesnt. read the textbook, and if you have time the assigned reading books.
always late to class, not organized, but does not teach in a conventional manner. you learn about life, and the tests are all based on the readings, so class attendance is not necessary
She loves to teach and it shows. Unconventional, but interestng. Will go out of her way to help. Very understanding. Considers other factors when making final grade. Highly reccomend taking the class.
You have to be on your own in this class, make sure you read everything because that's what's going to be on the test. She doesn't teach in a traditional matter. Expect anything from her at anyy given time.

She is the best teacher at SDSU. I learned how to think, instead of just what to think. Only the bigots in the class write nasty things... Don't you morons know that she kept you in the class to show the rest of us how ignorant/closed-minded people are&
Wild, Fun, Crazy, and a GREAT Teacher!!!
Although there was no true structure in the class, it was great! You had to think beyond the lecture (whatever the lecture may be)! She's great!
She is very unorganized, always late but keeps your attention during class. Lectures have nothing to do with the tests but are entertaining. Study old tests and read the books. Easy Class.
I just love her, she is the best, I learned so much, just NEVER SKIP CLASS, ALWAYS TAKE NOTES!
she's the best. i learned so much from her. final was not so easy though.
She's so chill, it's not even funny. I love this woman!!!
The best classes I have ever taken at San Diego State. You can tell she loves to teach and loves what she teaches. Thses are classes you will want to go to and you will gain so much insight from what she has to say.
LOTS of reading, Lectures are sparatic, NEVER know what your gonna get. IF you need structure~ RUN~ SHE's outside of the BOX. I LOVED HER! GO TO CLASS, movies are on the test. Readings are on the test. Funny, energetic, ultra nice makes you think!
Got to luv a prof. who's comfortable in her skin! Love her lectures (though it can be random), lots of reading, movies, excitement. Do the extra credit (plenty of it) & you'll do great. Easy prof. to talk to. 3 Exams, 1 quiz, no curve, READ!
Dr. Federman seriously should be a stand up comedian. I took less than 1 page of notes throughout the entire semester. Just pay attention to what she says (it won't be hard) and you'll do fine. Plan on her missing a few days of class due to _____?____
GREAT CLASS! VERY HELPFUL, TESTS ARE A MIXTURE OF NOTES, VIDEOS ,TEXT AND BOOKS. EXTRA CREDIT IS IRRELEVANT. SHOW UP TO LECTURES AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED. GRADING IS NOT SOLELY ON TESTS
So, she's either crazy or brilliant or a little of both. Her tests are hard, but she grades on a big curve at the end. She loves talking to her students, so go to class and participate. It's a truly unique experience!
loved her. so nice passes everyone unless you ****her off. lectures are random but funny. if you get to know her she'll let you have extra time for deadlines. take her for an easy A.
An amazing course taught by an amazing professor. She took a tough subject (Death and Dying) and took a great social perspective of the lifecycle. Always clear and willing to help out if you get lost or confused. She inspired me to make Sociology my minor
Pretty great class/prof...grade sorta based on effort. Lots of extra credit and very entertaining lectures. She's a little wild and tests unorganized and confusing but read assigned reading and try to study and you should be OK.
All the ratings are true. Crazy, brilliant, interesting, easy! You will have to read, but the best thing to do is attend class and speak up! Do the extra credit. It took me four years to find a good sociology prof! If you like unconventional, you'll love her! It's worth the experience.
Nicest teacher EVER. She is funny an loves her students and wants them to lear. You have to do the reading for the test but the reading is interesting. Participate in class and you will get an easy A for sure
This professor is very caring, sensitive and more polite than Jill Esbenshade.
so friggin hilarious! i love her. EASY A if u try.
The lectures were usually pretty entertaining, though very unhelpful and sometimes a waste of my time. I found the class to be a little challenging because of her unfocused lectures.
The teacher is nuts/brilliant in her only strange sort of way. Lectures can't be followed, just read all the books and you will do better on the tests, don't need to go to class but you are missing out on Stand-up comedy every time she walks in
She is a really cool teacher. Misses a lot of class, but its a good thing. Her tests arent that hard and she curves them like crazy so that is good. Go to class enjoy the show, and you will get a B, thats what i did. Taker Her!
she's nutty as hell but the class is relevant and interesting, everyone should have to take one like it in college. do your reading, the tests get easier as you go and she curves them, get to know her, she's crazy but super nice and funny.
I have never learned so much in any other class than this one. She is a better professor than Jill Esbenshade. She is also interesting, fun, very nice & really cares about students than jill Esbenshade. Take her class and email the dept so they can keep her around.
Awesome teacher, by far the funniest and most entertaining professors ever. Do the readings and make sure to get to know her, she's super nice and inteligent.
Dr. Federman is really funny!! Lectures are ok. You can't really follow them. A lot of reading, but gives lots of EC.
Professor Federman is great. She is very entertaining and interesting. There is a lot of reading, three tests and a paper. The test are difficult because you never know what reading is going to be on them, but she curves a lot. The paper ended up being extra credit. She is very helpful and she really likes her students.

Federman is so funny and very interesting. you don't ever take notes, but her lectures are very insightful and make you think. lots of reading that she never discusses in class. tests are all on reading, so don't need to go to class, but its entertaining if you do go. tests were hard but there is lots of extra credit. i wouldn't take her again.
Lectures can be a little confusing but entertaining. If lost ask for help, more than welling to explain. She does care about her students! LOTS of reading plus extra books.3 exams (mostly from reading but a few from lecture) & 1 small paper. Not as much extra credit as mentioned in other comments. A little lost on what final grade will be.
LOVED her, hated the class...Way too much irrelevant reader for her hard tests, yet I somehow managed a C in the class when I got Ds on all 3 tests...cool...
if i could just chat with her, and not be graded, i would love it. the class material/tests/etc, don't coincide with each other and are really confusing, but she is a wonderful lady. makes you think...if only you could get a grade based on what you thought...
Great professor. Nice, funny, quirky and not afraid of anything!! She does miss class without leaving notes but as long as you do all the reading the tests are cake.
funny lady, and nice person, but not the best teacher. Class lectures are irrelevant most of the time to what she tests on, and she shows a lot of videos. Very one sided on lots of issues, she tries to make you believe what she believes. Don't take her if you are trying to boost your GPA.
Shes a funny, exciting, and goofy teacehrs.. her lectures have to deal with what goes on with her own life most of the time, study the online quizzes for her tests.. I encourage her to all for maybe an easy grade... GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS it helpSs!! shes alot of funn, movies are interested
Loved her and her crazy style...can't say the same for her class. Unless the class is required, I suggest you pass this up. There is A LOT of reading and you have no idea AT ALL what's on the test. It's not to say I didn't learn anything - you will. It just won't apply to the tests. Lots of extra credit, though. Fabulous shoes, by the way.
Craziest teacher I've ever had. Very unclear on what's going to be on the test. Basically just read what she assigns and go to class. Classes are always entertaining with her hilarious stories. Good teacher, take her if you need a break from the boring teachers.
OMG this lady is one of a kind.Craziest professor/person ive ever come across.she has some loose screws but shes hillarious.very intresting class but a lot of reading and you dont know what are on the tests.be sure to do online tests to prepare.make sure to go to class and pay attention.random details from class on tests.classes are so entertaining
Very funny, her class is interesting, study the online test and you'll do good.
crazy lady but good teacher, only graded on 4 tests in soc 101, if you can get notes and find out when the couple assignments are due, then dont go to class
She is NUTS but u cant help but like her. I wouldnt recommend taking her if you like organization and order in teachers. If u take her then always go to class bc she randomly assigns EASY extra credit thats worth a lot! There is a lot of reading for this class & u dont know whats gonna be on the test exactly but she is FUN AND NEVER EVER BORING!
I could never fall asleep in this class because she is so entertaining. She kept me laughing the whole time. Her test definitely suck but she gives a good amount of extra credit. If you are nice to her and talk to her she will give you a good grade.
prof federman is an awesome person, she is by far the craziest prof ive ever met. she doesnt give any stufy guides, so you have to read all of the books because you dont know which ones she will use for the tests. she gives random extra credit papers (very short) i personally liked her class , it kept me awake
Crazy! I mean crazy. she a good professor a little hard to see all the view points she puts out, but a real thinkers on some. interesting by far, tests are a little hard (first soc class ever), but thats why she has extra credit(short 10-30mins), my avg test grade was a 67%, 3 extras got me a B in the class. helpful! learned alot.
I stessed out because of the my test scores, then gave up and showed up to class sporadically, still got an A. She is crazy, but a good crazy. We watched southpark for a couple of the classes.
By far one of the best teacher I've ever had. Her test are kind of hard, based on the reading. There is a ton of reading. Highly recommend seeing her during office hours if struggling in her class. She'll help you out. Cares about her students.
To ease your woes, just do all the easy extra credit papers and study REAL HARD for her second exam. I promise you that all of you won't do so hot on the first test. Even if you fail the final (which is mostly ECR readings), you'll pass the class with a A or B. So RELAX! She's hilarious and understanding --- which a lot of teachers at SDSU are not.
She is a genius. She knows her stuff. Sometimes too much. She's enthusiastic, funny, energetic and really interesting. But all of her tests are hard! Super hard. All of her tests are all in the book so you have to read all of them and i mean all. Got 2 d's on my first two tests, felt okay with my final and did all the extra credit and got a B.
She is so much fun and smart. Best jokes ever. She really knows the subject. Tests are hard just because they are all from the books and you have to remember everything. Beside that she is really cool. If she would have less books it would be great.
Make sure that you do her extra credit, because I felt that they are not extra. I recieved 88+% on all the exams and felt really strong about the final yet ended up with a C. I did not do the extra papers and believe in her mind that she forgot that she assigned them as extra credit. Other than feeling screwed out of a grade, it was a fun class.
She is really funny and interesting!!! The best teacher I have had at state!!!. Her tests are from the books, so read the books, if you do badly go to her office hours. She likes visitors!!! SHe is nice is and if you don't understand just ask her. Books she used were all interesting , my fav was Make ME wanna holler! Do xtra credit papers!
Her class sucks!! Don't take her!!
One of the best classes at SDSU! Dr. Federman's lectures were intriguing due to her in depth knowledge and passion. Many times have I walked out of class enlightened. The readings were great. Sit towards the front and participate. A show of interest will make the difference in success. Discredit any biased and critical non-reasoned ratings below.
She was a great teacher. She kept the interest of the class by havin social games and discussions. she is funny and makes you think. make sure you read EVERYTHING because her tests cover EVERYTHING including class discussions so go to class. you get to watch cool movies that are really interesting i learned alot i recommend this class 100%.
She's cool, but basically, if you don't do the TONS of reading that she assigns, you don't pass. There is way too much reading for this class and only 3 exams. Take the class only if you like to read!
Her lectures are hilarious! She's very outspoken and politically incorrect at times to illustrate her point. She is a good teacher, but the tests can be a little hard - she expects you to remember very small details about your reading and lectures.
Don't take her!!
I think she was great. Her lectures were interesting, and it was tons of fun!!! Yes, you have to read!! Also,it's helpful to attend all her classes because she asks a lot of it on her tests. I loved it.
Best teacher at State. Brilliant.
great teacher! outspoken and funny, makes good points. i got an A and only did some of the reading. pay attention to what she keeps mentioning, it's probably on the test. and she brings donuts the day of the final. :)
i love this lady. she's one of the most open minded people i've ever encountered, and she has such a passion for what she believes in. she's crazy, in a very good way, and makes class fun. attendance isn't mandatory but you don't want to ever miss it, and it helps a lot for the tests. read everything.
She is great in lecture, but there is so much required reading out of class. This past semester she cancelled class way too many times and seemed to be all over the place. She's hilarious and off the wall, but needs to get it together a bit.
Crazy lady.... but really easy class!
Really cool lady. she's fun and makes the class interesting. 3 test all based on the book- when she says "memorise everything" she means it. Pay attention in class and read one or twoo of the readings daily and you should be alright. She likes showing videos to make the class even more interesting. i would definitely recomend her.
Overall a great lady. Not the most helpful, but sure makes class fun. Nancy is a total Kathy Lee Gifford, no joke- freaking hilarious! There is A LOT of reading for this class, including several novels. If you attend class regularly, its an easy class.
3 exams and one required paper (do more and its Xtra Credit). The reading is extremely interesting but there is a LOT of it. DO NOT wait to read. Great, funny teacher. Class is a little disorganized but I looked forward to going to class. I took this for my Soc minor. I highly recommend it. Got an A but studied a lot and read everything.
She does not make class mandatory but you will end up with a better grade in the class if you attend. Read the novels, and understand the main concepts from the chapters. Do the extra credit and you be fine. Made the class lectures very interesting.
I was reading the previous posting and had to say something in this Prof defense. I can guarantee I know who wrote this, as it was posted yesterday and she got in an argument with a student in her office. I heard the whole thing and the student was really rude. She's really nice and helpful. Don't listen to a bitter student who got a bad grade.
Curved the test because we bugged her to. Gave 2 fun extra credit written assignments. lots of reading. random how she chooses test questions. just read for understanding because trying to memorize everything is useless. the tests were ok except the final where she asked some questions not even in the book like what % of africans live in the US.
Nancy Federman deserves an award for her esoteric teaching skills. She is funny, immensely intelligent (which is f'ing hott ;). She tells it as it is. Do not be fooled by the haters who put in NO effort. And you get to watch south park, a real good incentive for a heavy amount of SDSU stoners I would suggest. Sincerely, Ahk-med the taxi driver:D
GREAT TEACH. WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN. WILD TEACHING. MAKES CLASS INTERESTING. BRINGS DONUTS TO TESTS. 10% FOR 1 PAPER, BUT SHE GIVES YOU LIKE 7 CHANCES. 3 TESTS ARE 30% EACH. REALLY COOL.
This instructor is strange...and you won't understand what I mean until you go to the 1st day of class and watch her start talking. Overall she's a very nice person and she makes the class fairly easy but for some reason I didn't like it...I think it was the reading (not the actual difficulty or the quantity but the content). Enjoy & Good Luck!
Lady is a part time comedian, making class interesting and enjoyable. Be warned though, if you are easily offended stay clear of Nancy as she will stereotype and make offensive comments, but they are done to get concepts across. 3 tests=90% and 1 mandatory paper=10%. However, she provides many opportunities for extra credit which will help.
absolutely hilarious! for the most part I attended class mostly just to be entertained... skimmed the books before the test, got an A... would strongly recommend
Candid, frank, great life lessons!
While attendance is not mandatory, definitely recommended. She is extremely eccentric and energetic, and finds a way to get everyone interested. We watched a lot of movies. The tests were pretty hard, so do ALL of the reading!! She isn't kidding when she says that anything that is said in class can be on the test. Take her class if you can!!
Great teacher! absolutely loved her. she's funny, honest, in your face at times. i saw another comment that says if you're easily offended don't take this class....i totally agree! 3 tests, and one paper (which is really easy) make sure you read for the exams cause her lectures are kind of all over the place. but she's awesome...i loved her!
You should totally take this class. Federman is hilarious and even though attendance is not mandatory, you will want to go to class everyday just to hear her lectures. I didn't miss one class just because the class was so fun to go to. Not too hard of a class as long as you keep up with the reading. There are 2 novels and a text book, but it's easy
Prof is hilarious but it is A LOT of reading. She does offer extra credit, and I'm guessing a curve because I got Cs on two test and a B on one, ended up with an A-. You dont really have to go to class but I think it definitely helps, she hints about whats on the test, plus some of the vids are on test. Overall good course
One of the best professors ever. She will challenge you to think instead of regurgitating facts. She's passionate, eccentric, and every class was fun. Her syllabus is a little organized but was remedied by her TA. She grades on a curve, I got an A.
Incredible. I never knew how to think before I took this class. This prof was a gift from God.
GREAT CLASS. Great teacher! I have taken another sociology course with her and you will love her. She has fun lectures and also does a great job of incorporating lecture material with the readings. She asks students to leave the judgements at the door, while some of her comments do approach "a line", they are done for a reason.
Fun and interesting class. You have fun and learn.
She is an AMAZING professor. I'm strongly considering taking another class I'm not even that interested in just so I can take her again. She is one of the best teachers i've ever had at state. She is an engaging professor and I would recommend her classes to anyone! Loved going to class every day!
Know the general ideas and topics of the assigned readings and you will do fine. Makes class interesting, hardly anyone dropped. Lectures do not necessarily reflect what is on the test, but I wanted to go every week. One of my favorite teachers ever.
Dr. Federman is an amazing teacher! Her class is very thought provoking and I enjoyed the assigned reading. She is very approachable and always willing to help out any student!
Federman is the BEST. She is hilarious and really smart. Medium amount of reading, learn valuable information and gets you to think. Three exams and paper, may offer extra credit, always willing to help students out. Show up to class, take notes and you will do great, I missed some readings and did fine, got an A. Thanks Federman, loved the class!!
She is SO sweet, she always told a joke before an exam so you "do better" & got pizza for final! 1 paper, some EC, go to exam review, if not you need to go to class because a huge chunk of questions on the exam are on videos & lectures. Easy A
Sociology is a very interesting subject and there is no better teacher than Dr. Federman. She is funny, helpful, and a great teacher. Go to the review sessions and make sure you go to class when she shows videos because they are on the test. You will actually enjoy going to class and as a result getting an A is very easy. Thanks Dr. Federman!
Phenomenal! Never knew there were profs like this. I learned that I LOVED LEARNING!
Dr. Fed could probably make more money as a stand-up comedian. She's a 22 year old firecracker at heart...and makes a tense subject much more comfortable for the class with her humor. The class is mostly reading & watching vids-but the reading is interesting. She tells jokes before exams to ease everyone's nerves. She's also very sweet :) Take her!
Dr. F is awesome! I'm in my senior year and she is easily one of the best professors I have ever had in any subject. She teaches in a matter-of-fact way and applies the subject to real-life. After taking several cultural classes in different areas of study, I learned more in her class than in any other. I highly recommend her!
Federman is a great professor. Class is very interesting and entertaining. Moderate amount of readings assigned but they are all great reads. I would highly recommend.
I took this class because of the how much everyone liked her. I enjoyed her as a person but she wasn't a great professor. She rambles in class and then tests on nothing that was covered in class or the study guide. It was interesting material but I didn't like the readings were never covered and that the tests were on nothing from class.
Dr. Federman's class was one of the most entertaining I have taken since I enrolled at SDSU. Wonderful teacher. Great jokes on exam days.
whether you read the book, watch the videos, or not, the tests are from another planet. The class is very interesting, and the books are enjoyable to read. But the irrelevant tests and the teaching style cause confusions.
She was my favorite teacher of all time! She is always cracking jokes during class, never takes attendance (quite frankly she doesn't care whether you show up unless its test day), lets you look over tests, will help you during a test, only assigned a few chapters to read over the textbook, our final was only over one chapter and 3 videos. EASY A
Excellent class. I really enjoyed the readings and lectures; she has a great way of presenting controversial content in a way that's thought provoking but not offensive. Take this class!
She's also very sweet :)Take her!
BEST TEACHER AT SDSU!! i loved her teaching! always kept the class interesting by her FUNNY jokes and random sayings. she very chill and her class is pretty easy is you attend class regularly because she uses her stories in her test.
Professor Federman makes a very boring class interesting. She is always cracking jokes, but they are meaningful and apply to the topic. She shows lots of films and the tests consist of the readings and the films. 3 tests and thats it. If you put in a little effort, it goes a long way. I had not interest going in and ended up with an A in the class.
Dr. Federman was super nice, but she was all over the place. I think she means well but sometimes I couldn't tell where she was going with something. Also, I think she only curves for SOME students clearly. Grades took forever to post!!
First day I thought it was going to be a long semester, she seemed like she was going to be an uptight teacher but after the first day you realize she's the exact opposite. She makes class fun and always cracks jokes and shows films relating to the topics. 3 tests all year based on lecture, films from class and reading. Very helpful teacher
3 exams based on lectures, readings, and films. She curves big time, and offered a 10 point extra credit opportunity. Go to class cuz a lot of test questions are based on specific definitions and examples she gives. Great sense of humor and always let us out super early. I highly recommend taking her.
Prof. Federman's lectures are very entertaining and she never fails to make me laugh! Three exams based on lecture and readings, and she REALLY curves the test scores. Study as hard as you would in your other classes, and you'll get an A in the class.
For someone who preaches tolerance, she's not very tolerant of anyone else's views. Be aware that if you are against the liberal views swallowing up SoCal, this professor is going to get under your skin. She also says a lot of things where you look at your friend next to you & ask each other "Did she really just say that out loud?"
I attended every class, read the books assigned, but still ended up with a C. 3 exams determines your grade, and she doesn't curve them. Whatever she talked about in lecture did not correspond with her tests like she said it would. She is an exciting teacher, but if you aren't a good reader (20 textbook pages/day keep up) then don't take the class.
She is a very funny & exciting teacher. She will keep you on your toes & shock you with the outrageous things she says. She assigns a lot of reading and the test questions can be confusing, but I managed to get a B without a ton of effort. I would recommend her.
Such an interesting professor who is very passionate for what she teaches. Pay attention to every example she mentions in class--all are going to be on the exam. There are also a lot of movies that are going to be viewed on the exam.
Dr. Federman is awesome! Thoroughly enjoyed going to her lectures as her way of explaining are very funny and entertaining. There's quite a bit of reading; textbook and 3 novels, plus online docs on BB. Whatever she says in lecture WILL be on the test. Spent many classes watching movies. Don't let the workload scare you, take this class!
Federman is awesome
This Professor was awesome! i would take her again in a heartbeat! she is a very funny and smart individual. she is not super organized in her lectures but is very clear in what she lectures about for her exams. a lot of reading but alot of interesting things to learn from all of it. i enjoyed her class more than all my other classes last semester.
A very knowledgeable and fun professor. There is a lot of required reading but the books are all really good. If it wasn't for a very disorganized blackboard and a TA who does not answer e-mails I would have scored her higher. Hint: Minority relations is more relaxed than social problems.
I LOVED her and the class! Seems intimidating at first because of the amount of reading but she lets you know what's going to be on the tests so you know what to focus on. She makes the material really easy and interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but she randomly mentions things or shows movies that are later on the test or offers extra credit
She is one of the best sociology professors SDSU has. Soc 352 is more interesting because it tends to be a smaller class. Make sure you are reading your texts specially nazi doctors because more than 80% of the questions come from the book. If you read the book and listen in lecture you will pass for sure with an A or B. She actually cares.
Professor Federman is an out-going and funny person who engages students in her teachings. Required readings included 3 books for the semester; had only 1 extra credit opportunity. *Keep up with textbook and book readings. 2 exams with at least 40 questions or more, and a final. STUDY FOR HER EXAMS, ask for help when needed. PERFORM WELL ON EXAMS!
Best Professor at State! She is hilarious during lectures and she actually cares for her students. I don't know how people are saying she isn't good. Probably the easiest class if you just read. It is a lot, but the readings are interesting and teach you a lot. Go to her OH and do the EC to help at the end. 3 EXAMS and all curved. Hilarious too!
Federman is one of those professors that just make it fun and exciting to come to class. She is beyond funny and very engaging with her students. In each lecture, over 75% of the class was there, and she did not make attendance mandatory. While she can be a little flustered and scatter-brained, she truly means well and will reward your hard work.
Dr. Federman is the funniest professor I ever had at SDSU. There's only three exams and maybe some ex credit opportunity depending on the semester. She does make jokes about all races including herself, but it's to teach us that we are all the same no matter what race we are. Highly recommend you take her. Keep up with the reading though.
She is wacky, but an overall good professor. Her lectures are always interesting and we even get to watch multiple films. Exams are not tough if you go over the study guide and pay attention at lectures. I didn't really read and i got an A. Take her!
Great professor! If you fail you sir are an idiot! It's college of course there is going to be readings! TAKE HER TAKE HER TAKE HER!
Dr. Federman made coming to class fun even though attendance isn't mandatory. She'll make you laugh and studying isn't hard because her lectures are memorable. Her tests aren't difficult if you pay attention and read. She curves by a few points. 3 exams, 3 novels, 1 textbook. Take her, you won't regret it. I am definitely taking her next semester.
She's hilariously cliche (she's exactly what you'd think a hardcore liberal, white woman teaching a minorities class would be). Just go along with the propaganda and you'll get an easy A. She assigns a ton of reading, but you only need to pay attention to the study guides, as that's the only stuff tested. There was one extra credit given. DO IT.
I absolutely loved her class!!! She is the professor that you have to take before leaving state. Keeps you awake and entertained. Always keep me motivated to go to class and learn more has a great passion for her profession.
Easy A. Read the books she assigns and DON'T WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE AND THINK YOU CAN DO IT A DAY BEFORE OR DAYS BEFORE, I tried and got a c- on my first test. 3 tests, overall good if you read and showed up to lecture. Gives you 1 chance for extra credit so do it! Show up to class, actually read the books and you'll be fine.
Federman is amazing. She makes class fun and interesting to learn. She shows quite a few films that you must watch, but some you can watch online and not show up to class. You have to read the books assigned! Overall, if you show up to class (not really mandatory, but essential) and take notes, read and view videos you're good.
Professor Lederman is an amazing lecturer. I have taken three of her classes just because of how much I enjoyed her style of teaching. If you need help, she is willing. Make sure you go to class and thoroughly understand her lecture and you will do fine.
Federman is absolutely hilarious. She has the ability to teach the material needed while keeping you fully engaged. Pay attention to the lecture and read the articles she puts on Blackboard. You will enjoy her class, I promise!
Make sure to buy all the required books AND READ THEM! Her lectures are so funny and amazing! She's the professor you have to take before graduating college! Tests are based off of the readings. She's really passionate and there for you. TAKE HER!
Professor Federman is hilarious and makes the class extremely interesting. She relates the topics directly to students and does a great job of holding your attention. Attendance is not mandatory but she does notice if you have not been there when asking for help. I highly recommend this class.
Dr. Federman is a great professor, the class is very engaging. Get ready to read! if you read all of the require text and attend class you will do great, about 25% percent of her test come from her ln class lecture, therefore it is important to attend class if you want to pass the course .
This class is super interesting and Federman is a good professor. She can get off topic sometimes, but she wants you to pass her class. If you read the textbook and required novels and go to class you'll be set. There are 3 tests and that's it!
Federman is a cool lady and her class was pretty interesting. I liked how she tried to make things relatable in lectures. She showed an excessive amount of movies though. I stopped going to class cuz it started seeming like a waste. Don't make my mistake, because the tests include a lot from class. Also there was a surprise EC. Google Docs saved me
This was a very interesting class with a more interesting instructor. Nancy was hilarious to say the least. 4 short books are required to be read throughout the duration of the course. No homework. 3 exams based off of the books and her lectures. Highly recommended if you want to strain away from the "boring" class setting.
Professor Federman is amazing! She alays made class interesting with her jokes. Class is required to read 4 textbooks, 3 exams, and possibly an extra credit assignment. I highly recommend her. Going to class is a must because she does make exam questions based on little things she says in class. Other than that, take her!
Awesome teacher! She made me actually want to go to class everyday. The tests are kind of hard just because they cover a lot of information and are usually around 40 questions but she has a review usually the class before. Only 3 tests so make sure you keep up with the readings she assigns and the books that will be on each test.
Nancy is an amazing professor and her teaching style made class very entertaining. The class grade was based on 3 exams and 1 extra credit assignment (10 pts)! MAKE SURE TO DO THE EC, I didn't do it and I regret it! Just make sure to keep your phone away and get to class on time! She will call you out for being late and for having your phone out.
Professor Federman was awesome. She makes the subject relatable and is actually funny. Calls you out on having your phone out or being late, and definitely doesn't tolerate any b.s. Lots of documentaries/movies. 3 tests - each of which covered assigned readings in the text, a novel (the 3 novels we read were pretty dope), lectures, and videos.
Take this as your upper division explorations class. You won't regret it. If you're really interested in the subject you can read but not mandatory to pass. Barely read, showed up to every class and got an A. Extremely funny, incredibly inspirational. Someone always does the study guide before each exam, honestly all you need to pass.
Provides 3 exams and one extra credit opportunity that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO. Really funny and caring professor. Go to her lectures and when she shows films, and you will definitely get an A. Have to read three books, but not difficult to read. Lastly, go to her review sessions cause she WILL tell you what is exactly on the exam!
She's quite specific when she goes through study guides for Exams, but the thing is that one has to read throughout the semester or chances of getting a B or A are limited. She's cool.
Dr. Federman is awesome! Extremely funny and the topics of the course are very interesting. She made me want to go to class every week! Shows a lot of interesting films as well. 3 exams. Definitely get the textbook and 3 novels(SO GOOD) Would definitely take again!!
Shows a ton of videos in class which will be on the test. If you show up to class everyday, the test questions will be straight forward but you NEED TO READ the material in the text to get an A. Also the assigned books are required for the exams. Federman is funny and her class seems easy but don't underestimate her tests! they're hard.
She is the most amazing professor I've ever had at SDSU! Definitely do not hesitate in taking her class, you learn a lot from her. She is extremely passionate and kind towards her students (curves exams too) and the reading is all very interesting and not overwhelming if you plan it out. Very easy A, just go to all her lectures, they're great! :)
3 Tests and YOU MUST READ to do well on them. That being said one of my favorite professors here at SDSU. Amazingly funny and truly passionate about what she teaches. You will learn a lot in both of these classes you will just have to put a lot of work in to get good grades. If you're a SOC major this is a can't miss.
My favorite professor by far. 3 tests that you have to read to do well on (but theres a lot of google docs floating around). Funny, passionate, energetic, and well informed. She makes class interesting with modern examples & videos. You barely ever take notes. Really down to earth. Definitely recommend!
Federman is amazing! Sociology is only my minor, but her class made me even more interested in the subject. She is hilarious and interacts with the students so you will never be bored in class. Test was pretty easy, but you definitely have to read the books she assigns! We talked mostly about poverty and the value of life (medical life support etc)
Entire class is based off 3 exams and one possible extra credit paper. Three quarters of the class is watching movies, but the movies will be on the tests. All the books are required as she makes you read them for the tests. Interesting class but expects too much reading. Listen to the little details and you will pass.
Professor Federman shows a lot of videos. I'm talking about like 85% of her class consists of you going to class and watching videos. The few times she lecture I actually enjoyed. I think she should incorporate more lectures into her teaching style. YOU WILL HAVE TO READ. I really worked hard for the grade that I got.
The majority of the class is spent watching movies dealing with minority group issues. The textbooks and all novels are required. All of these things including her lectures are on the exams. She is extremely hilarious and only wants the best for her students.
LOTS OF READING but her readings are interesting! Her class is really fun and shes a funny teacher! You can approach her and talk to her about anything and everything! Shes so sweet. Take her class. You wont regret it!!! By far one of my favorite classes! Her grading scale is different to where everyone passes!
The class was mostly about watching documentaries, but you also have to read. She seems like a out going person, not bad, but her tests were immensely confusing; too many synonyms. Other than that, just try to pass 3 exams.
The class was spent mainly watching videos which are all on the tests. There are 3 tests and thats it... no papers, no quizzes (despite her saying on the syllabus that there will be). She assigns A LOT of reading (emails random articles along with the textbooks), but i never read a single thing and got an A. relied on study guide only
She is a great professor! Would definitely take her class again.
I loved this class! I always looked forward to her lectures and she had the funniest comments! One of the best classes I have ever taken at state, and it's easy to pass. Of course, you will need to thoroughly study for an A, but it's an easy B.
Here's the deal. Federman is an awesome prof. & a great person. Hilarious lectures. However, your grade is solely based on 3 exams. And they're not hard, but they're a bit confusing even when you go to lecture and study. So an A is pretty hard to get even with hard work, but solid B is obtainable. Go to class to pass she gives study guides in class
Prof. Federman knows her stuff. Granted there is only 3 exams that depict your entire grade, but they are super easy if you show up to class and read the material she assigns. There is a lot of reading but nothing unattainable. Super sweet and relaxing class overall. A lot of movies and discussions but super interesting. Definitely recommend!
She is my favorite professor at state by FAR. She cares heavily about her students and does not want anyone to fail her class. Super funny. Tests are super hard, but she curves like crazy, (which she doesnt tell you until the end). Show up to class so shell like you. Youve gotta read. It's worth it. TAKE HER even if you arent a sociology major.
Very inspirational and wise prof. You will always leave class having learned something new! However, her test are REALLY tricky. Studying and going to class everyday does not guarantee an A bc she puts very small details that are hard to remember on exams. Good prof. but your grade depends more on memorization rather than what you've leaned :(
Awesome. Thats how Id describe Prof. Federman. She is extremely funny & makes learning exciting. I looked forward to her class every week! She only grades 3 exams based on the material so prepare to study. The exams arent impossibly difficult but they are still a challenge. Earning an A is very possible if you prepare well in advance and study.
By far the best professor hands down. She is so funny, sweet, and amazing. Class isnt an easy A cause tests are tricky but she definitely curves at the end. Go to her office hours!
She is no doubt my favorite professor I've had so far. Her lectures are always interesting and leaves you thinking. She does show a lot of films throughout the semester but they were all very entertaining and informative. Lots of reading from textbook and novels but all very interesting! I hope I'll be able to take her again in the future!
