Lectures boring and unrepresentative of the exams - Don't bother going to the class unless you need a good nap.
DONT GO TO LECTURE!!! The material that is taught in lecture never appears on the exams. Each midterm consists of an average of 400 pages worth of material.
She is amusing, but her lectures are worthless in regards to the exams and your grades. For her to teach it, it's to disillusion Freshmens of taking PSY as a major and in the process think they might have mental problems.

whatever she covers in class rarely appears on her exams
Wow-- she shoulda been a stand-up comedian! I really enjoyed this class. Even though it was hard, it was worth having her as a professor!
She's really good but you have to read the textbook to pass the class - no way can you get by on just lecture notes. Only a few questions from lecture are on the test, but hey - welcome to college and start reading!!!!!
She is so hard. All the tests are hard and on like millions of pages of text and she wants like every signle word in the text. I fi had to take this class request another professor.
sucks
yes, you have to read (or at least skim through) the text to get a good grade in this course, but this is college you lazy bastids. nancy is a great professor and would love to take another one of her classes.
Hard tests.
Shes really nice just make sure you read the text or else u will be totallyy lost her lectures may be a waste of time to go to but i go to hear her anecdotes most of the time
rock on dude
Makes class like a talk show. Lecture has nothing to do with exams. You have to read the book 100 times to get an A on those exams.

Makes the most of a class with 600 students. Really funny, seems like she would be a cool aunt. There is a lot of memorization, but I think that's just because it's a psych class.
Definitely a cool class. She really makes the class fun. Go to lecture and make sure you do the reading.
Great teacher, she makes lectures interesting, she is enthusiastic, and is helpful.
spends way too long on things that can be explained in 5 minutes. covers very little. don't mistake corny with funny.
Dont take this class with Franklin....reading is sick..if you dont read and memorize the whole book..you wont get higher than a C-. Lectures are pointless because she doesnt explain anything that might be on the test...Hardest teacher in Stony.
Funny and great enthusiasm. When you read the textbook memorize the highlighted words in the bottom corners and you'll be fine.
her exams are completely irrelivant to the lectures, which, by the way are BOOOOOOOOOOORING as hell.
Outstanding lecturer, for god's sake, a Stanford PhD! However, the course itself is pretty tough since she gives hard exams. I got a B and i read the book. (and i'm not a mouth breather). This is a very challenging course but rewarding if you do your work
her tests are notoriously hard.. but i guess as long as you work your butt off, it's passable. her lectures are pretty amusing, but sometimes have no relevence to her tests (which is why they're so hard?) READ THE BOOK, KNOW IT INSIDE OUT
she is so horrible what a bad teacher fire her immediately
she tries too hard to be funny when she is not
Good sence of humor and relates to students

Leacture:Nothing related to test;test is hard;no point for her speech;class mad boring;if u not read the book, u must fail the test.
I agree with everyone else's comments, her lectures and her tests are two different things.
she will teach a little bit about the text, then u r on your own. smetimes i just stay in my dorm and read my book rather than to go to her class. however, i can feel she is a nice person.
Took her class in 1999 and see she hasn't changed a bit. Ridiculously hard tests, stupid jokes, gestapo like TA's. Fortunately I spent five solid hours studying before the final and got my B.
what shame to have a professor like her in SB..just dont take her class....i read the book..and i only got 34/50...i really read the book...but she just test u in some strage way....i probably hv C for this class
she tries so hard to seem "cool", she forgets to cover any of the material on the test! you read about 220 pages avg per test. You can do all of those readings inside and out and still only get a C! Dont ever ask for help, she bites your head off, and dont ever call her anything but doctor franklin!
She's very lively and enthusiastic but the course itself that she teaches is very boring. Everything she talks about in the lectures has nothing to do with the readings. Your grade in this class is completley test-based.
hey, I liked it
Great professor. Very interesting lecture. You do have to read the book though but you do very well if you pay attention in lecture, I know I did. My first university course and I am a jr now, haven't meet any professor better.
She's awesome. She puts up all her lecture notes on BB. She really is funny, so you stay interested. She would be better if she could control the kids in the class a little more ( the talking can sometimes get excessive and she'll become hard to hear). But shes so nice, she doesnt want to shut em up
If you read the book, you'll do fine. She even offers a pretty substantial amount of extra credit if you put participate in more experiments. Don't bother with the lecture, everything you'll need is in the book.
Grades are completely test-based, and the tests are completely book-based. The lectures aren't worth going to, since you'll just have to read the book to do well anyway. I like her, pretty reasonable person.
Tests are horrible. Impossible to really get a perfect score on, never met anyone who got a perfect score on any of the tests. Over 250 pages to read per exam. Must be memorized word by word if you want a good grade on exam. She seriously needs someone else to write her exams.
A very interesting class, but reading 200 pages in one week will not be interesting. All the materials that she teaches are useless in the exam. The only way to learn is to teach yourself by the textbook.
She's a good prof. Her tests are based entirely on the book, and there's approx 200 pg of reading to do per test. It may seem hard, but you do have over a month to read that, since there's no other homework for the class. If you do the reading, the tests are really easy and straightforward.
great teacher, i love her class.. funny & makes her lectures interesting. there is a good amt of reading, but plenty of time to do it in. if u actually read & study the book, her tests are easy and it's not at all impossible to get an a.
honestly, i think the ppl who rate this prof down are just lazy. yes, if u don't like to read then don't take the class but for those of u who want a fun, interesting professor i'd reccomend dr. franklin.
Although i did quite well in this class, but i wouldn't recommend this to people who dont plan to work hard. Her lectures are boring and the reading is ridiculously long. If u dont plaan on majoring in psych then save yourself the trouble and concentrate your time on other subjects
Not a very difficult class. She always comes prepared and motivated, and despite the large size of the class, she is very approachable.
the book is your best friend. make sure you know all the vocabulary and the concepts, then you'll will be fine on the exams. there are 4 and she drops the lowest one and she offered my class extra credit.
Psy 103 is a great class however there is a lot of material covered in the course of 15 weeks. Professor franklin is very good. She is passionate about the subject. test cover material from both the textbook and lectures. Read the book every day of the semester. Do your experiment requirement.
terrible teacher. too enthusiatic. sidetracks alot
This professor is very friendly. The lectures are very interesting and apply to everyday life. If you go to lecture, you don't even have to read all chapters in the textbook because the lectures are really helpful and interesting. The experiments are fun too.
This is definately not one of the easiest intro. courses in SB but she lets you know that in the beginning. The reading is excessive and you have to read very carefully. She is very enthusiastic, class is fun, but you do have to read and do the work to do well.
Fun Teacher, strange tests.
Lectures are fun and entertaining, but to do well on the exams you have to read the chapters. She also gives extra credit opportunities, which is always good. I got an A in the class.
I did ok and i really think she's a pretty good teacher but overall her exams were crazy. Most of it is from the book so attending class is just more or less a joke. I dont recommend this clas unless you're a psy major. Also check out Kaplan, he teaches too. check his class out. heard he's better.
all those good comments are crazy. here's the truth=> she sidetracks alot and what you learn in class is not what is on the test. i would say at least 90% are on the readings so you better read. going to her class was a joke and a waste of time. better stay home and just read.
Prof. Franklin is a cognitive psychologist.. cognitive psychology, to me, was too abstract for my preference. If you learn well or better in structured classes than stay away, however, if your into that 'up in the air' kind of testing situations then go for it.
Shes a bit offbeat, a bit strange at times, if your a psych major ull like her. Otherwise if ur taking psy 103 just for dec, find someone else. Tests are very strict. Lecture big + sometimes interesting. Just do the reading and ull be fine.
oh my god!!!!!!what a fruitcake she is.... all over the place...hope you don't want to learn to much..her tests don't match her lectures..if there is another professor for this course, you better go there.... good luck

I had her for both intro and cognition. She's funny and goofy. She does a really good job explaining topics, but is usually broad because there is so much to cover. You have to learn all the details of stuff in the textbook. Take the textbook seriously and study it. You leave the class knowing a lot of interesting things.
Avoid her at all costs! If u need to, take her.I unfortunately had no choice.Rarely went to lecs and rarely read the book but did fairly well. Her tests are hard. when i did go,her lecs were ok but sometimes boring. Her reading schedule was ridiculous though! She wanted u to basically read the whole text in one day!We do have other classes to read for!
great course, despite the heavy readings, but very interesting lectures. just do the reading then you should be fine. 3 midterms and one final
This woman is actually a very horrible person.
OMG, this professor is a physco! Never take her class or have her as your future professor
Yes, her class is hard. You have to put in effort. But she's fair and upfront about the requirements the first day. To do well, you need to know the complete text and her lectures. Those that complain about her don't take her reqs seriously until right before test time. If you do that, there is a good chance you won't do as well as you would like.
I am usually not the type to down a professor but Franklin is nuts! I heard shes good for intro but, as far as cognition is concerned, find another teacher! The class was damn near impossible, I ended up passing simply because a curve was necessary for everyone and most did even worse than me.

I really enjoyed having Intro to Psych with Professor Franklin. I enjoyed her sense of humor, her ideas on how to make a class interesting, and I thought the class was a piece of cake. As long as you keep up with the readings she assigns, PSY 103 was an
i dont know what these other ppl are talking about. the class is not one of the easiest out there, but she is a good teacher. as long as you read the txtbk and know the definitions you will do fine. her lectures are entertaining, and she really loves what she is teaching.
She's a decent teacher. She is very helpful, and clear. It's an easy class if you actually read the textbook and do more than just memorize definitions.

I had her for intro and cognition...intro was pretty good but cognition was the worst class ive ever taken. she didnt explain anything well and her tests were so hard. everyone was failing and she said she wouldnt curve the grades but she ended up having to or else mostly everyone would have failed..lol and whoever said she had a legally blonde TA who knew nothing is absolutely right. dont take cognition!!!
This professor was absolutely amazing! She tries extremely hard to keep the class engaged in every single lecture. She's hilarious and very entertaining and my best professor by far. As long as you study the textbook along with the lecture slides, you'll do fine. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time learning the material.
uses good examples in class
She's such a great teacher. She presents the material in a comprehensive and fun way.
She is an excellent professor. She has a great sense of humor and she keeps the class fun. The material can be dry, but she makes it interesting. Most important for this class...you must read the text book! A large portion of her tests are straight from the book, you can't pass without doing the work! It's a tough class, but she is awesome!
If you read this isn't that difficult of a class. She tries to keep the class interesting and usually succeeds.
Nancy Franklin is great, she is passionate about her subject and teaches is accordingly. She is a kind person and treats her students as if they are important (sometimes surprisingly so.)
I took this class Fall 04. Whether or not you like Franklin is based on whether or not you like hearing irrelevant stories about her life that take up so much time that the relevant part of the lecture is pushed into the last 20 minutes of class. Well, she does post notes on blackboard, and she is relatively nice.
She is a great teacher who is very passionate about what she teaches. She will always try to mae the material as intersting as she can, and that helps quite a bit. Her stories are always funny and helpful for understanding the topics. She always tries her best to answer your questions, even further researching to find answers. READ THE TEXTBOOK.
She's a very nice professor. She tries to keep the material interesting even when it's pretty dry. If you read the notes and review the textbook you'll do fine.
I highly dont recommend this teacher for the average student. Yes she is "interesting" and her classes are "fun" but let me tell you something when you are taking the tests that she gives you(extremely hard) you wont be having fun, if anything you will be thinking whether or not to PNC the class - most likely will becuase she doesnt kno how to act
Franklin's lectures are pretty decent, boring but not 2 boring, she's an OK teacher but she test on on things that are in the book and not what she lectures on. Do the readings on your own and dont depend on her to teach u whats going to be on the test, cuase most of what lectures about does not appear on tests
terrible teacher, terrible person...refused help, i mean the stuff is really interesting and all but she makes you hate it, final coming up and refused help wtf
Her lectures are sometimes boring, and can also be interesting. Her test are extreely hard though. I wouldn't recommend her for this course.
i think she is a good teacher. Granted the tests are type hard..but she teaches well and she is very interesting
VERY HARD CLASS-tests were extremely difficult even when you do all the readings and attend lectures. She is a great professor though and does try to help her students by giving extra credit and dropping the lowest test grade. Be prepared to work hard, study, and read the entire text book.
thi class sucked, hardcore... i just thank the powers that be that its over...
I think she's a great professor, but with a whacked out grading system. I forgot to hand in two assignments, and it lowered my avg by 2 full grades. The tests ARE hard but not impossible. It's too bad her grading system is weird, cause I liked her
She's nice but a little crazy. Her exams are really tough. Alas, we're just students, so we don't understand the subject at her level. Do all the short assignments and participate in all experiments, since not doing them can hurt your grade. I'm just so glad it's over and that I got a B.
She seems like a very nice person BUT her test are ridiculous, they're too difficult. There is soo much reading to do and if they're not done, you're screwed. I personally failed her class so i wouldn't recommend her for this course to anyone. No offense to the teacher cause she DOES know what she's talking about but her grading sys is terrible. =(
she's very clear on wat to do, if you do them you're fine. the extra credits are a real boost to your final grade. idk wat ppl complain about her tests, but if you know the material you're good, pay attention to examples. her lectures are great compared to the other pys 103 professor, whose lec is ZZZZZZ
Her lectures are really interesting. Make sure you come to class everyday becasue the extra credits really boosts your grade. The tests do have few questions from the textbook that people overlook, but its not that bad. I think she is a real good teacher..i really didnt read 2 much and I got an A..so the extra credit does help!
She really knows what she is talking about, the lectures a pretty interesting. I personally didnt do the best I could in this class probably because I didnt read as much as I should (its A LOT of reading). I kinda regret not going to class everyday cause she gives extra credit for that. Tests arent too easy but they are all multiple choice.
extremely interesting lectures. It's a class I don't really mind going to. She's very energetic and cheery, and goes everything and makes sure it's clear, and tries to get students to tell her if anything is unclear. Also tries to make students interact with the lecture. I like this class a lot.
Really interesting material but you HAVE to study a lot, her tests are really detailed. Also make sue you come to class to get extra credit. Good lecturer and fun class!
Her tests are fair. If you're planning to take PSY 103 expect there to be a lot of reading(the whole textbook). Her lecture's are interesting.
only gives two tests, one of which is dropped, cog labs (easy 90/90),and a final. must go to lecture to understand her notes that are posted online, tests are ridiculously hard and extremely detailed (must know all the experiments and results that were found)..dont take this class, take psy 250 if ur a psych major!!!
As long as you study, you'll be fine. Tests were extremely easy with studying. She is very funny, and very easy to learn from.
Your grade for this class consists of 9 Cog Labs(easy), 2 midterms(lowest grade is dropped), and a final. The exams are challenging, but if you attend all the lectures and study your notes you'll do well. I got an A in the class by doing that.
her lectures can be fun...but has nothing to do with her exams.........exams were hard and the u make the call thing was so useless
walked away with an A, but found class to be challenging, the tests are very detailed and specific, study the lecture notes hard but make sure to take notes during class because if u think you can just not show up to class and read her notes and still do fine, you are very mistaken, the text book is garbage and so boring, use it for reference
Interesting lectures. However, the test were extremely hard. Not much of her lecture was used on the test. You definitely need to read the entire textbook over and over to understand and pass this class.
Her class is fun, but the exams are hard...
She is not a very good prof. But that is typical in StonyBrook. I got a A- and it is really because I read the book. STUDY THE DEFINITIONS in the book. It is the best way to study for HER class. You prob. won't gain anything from class. On one of her test a lot of questions came from the lecture (it was the 3rd) Almost entire test is from text.
I don't understand why so many people dislike this professor. I've had three classes with her and I think she's interesting, approachable and fair. For this class...there are 7 exams, 3 lowest are dropped. That seems pretty fair to me. Low textbook usage, but you MUST go to class...but she usually lets you out early and they're interesting
the best!!!
alright all you kids listen. go to class YOU MAKE THE CALL are a great way to gain extra points at the end of the semester and her lectures are fun shes a chill gal truthfully....and she drops 1 midtermthe only bad thing about the class is the amount of information for each exam....
Easy way to get points: you make the call. Do it! go to class! also, read the textbook. She's a really great lecturer and she makes them really fun. She even has her little dog running around. But you do have to do a lot of reading b/c her lectures only count for 10% of the test. She's very nice and helpful so don't be afraid to ask questions
Go to lectures and read the textbook. Easy class.
Frankin... is something else. Her lectures have absolutely very little to do with Intro Psych. I think she talks for the benefit of pointing out shes a "cognitive psychologist" her tests are easy if you READ the book yourself. Her lectures are nothing important, dont bother taking notes, just READ and really READ!
Ugh, I hated this class. Tests are hard, there's too much material covered for each exam, the only thing that saves your grade in this class is the homework part.
Incredibly difficult class. No notes offered, her lectures were very technical, and clarity was non existent. Many times was she asked to post notes or a review sheet for relevant material, and every time, she refused. There are 7 quizzes, and she grades you on 4 or them. But don't be fooled by this, the quizzes are extremely difficult.
Sweet lady, but Amazingly hard tests. Quizzes were hard...and the final was ridiculous. No review sheet, Can't study off the previous quizzes since it's not related...so what? Read the long boring text book ALL over again, and only had about 5 questions from the book on the exam out of 30 questions..sigh.
Great Lecturer. Her quizzes and tests are near impossible if you don't literally memorize the text book word by word. She keeps 4 quizzes out of 7 quizzes, which are very challenging. The final test was, simply utterly ridiculous. 30 questions out of 15 chapters, which were very ver detailed. God help you, if you're in this class.
Highly motivated individual, and a fun lecturer. However, the lectures have no relations with her exams. Her quizzes are extremely difficult. The final test was really tough...you literally have to memorize the text book word by word, if not prepare for a C- or lower. I ended with a C, possibly the hardest C I've ever earned...stay away.
This is such a bad class for her to teach! I don't think the material is hard... i think that she makes it hard. She is very motivated in the lectures but they have nothing to do with the exams. The text book she uses is horrible. Do not take this class with her!
Seriously..wtf. This class is the hardest class I've ever taken. Friendly teacher and interesting lecture. However, her tests are not related to the lecture. I honestly wasted my time going to class. No notes on Blackboard, No review sheet, Review session SUCKED since we had no idea what we're being tested on. Worst class ever.
Her lectures are really interesting and I like them a lot. She is a very funny person and she explains everything clearly. She is a great professor. However, her tests are hard and requires a lot of common sense. But other than that, she's a really really good teacher and she's my inspiration.
This class isn't difficult to pass as long as you keep up with the readings. It's true that her lectures don't pertain to the tests very much, but they are extremely intresting and you can earn up to 7 extra points on your final grade by going to lecture. Basically, all you have to do is read the book and use common sense to pass her tests.
lectures had very little to do with the class but where fun to go to....the readings are 90% of the test...gives up to 7 points of extra credet on your final grades and the way she grades where very fair.
great professor. Tries to make class interesting and funny so you stay interested. Test questions rely on both the textbook and the class notes. Test questions were hard but no papers or hw in this class. Gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit if you just go to class. doesnt put slides on blackboard which kind of sucks just takes notes
I loved her lectures, she seems like a well-rounded individual, and she always brings her Dog to the class. Her tests were hard because they wasn't as relevent to the lectures, but generally they were fair because as long as you studied, you'll do good.
I would reccomend taking PSY 103 for your DEC F requirement; Prof. Franklin is a very fair teacher, attendence isn't necessary unless you want extra credit points, and as long as you spend a few hours skimming through the textbook before a midterm (I never used any lecture notes to study) you'll do fine. I got an A- with very little effort.
Shes a great professor. she teaches well and the class isn't boring. test are all MC so its not that bad. the only thing is that you should read the book
Nancy Franklin is AWESOME! She is sooo clever and witty. She is enthusiastic and loves her job. She makes lectures fun. She is so brilliant. I have such admiration for her. Her tests can be tricky but shes fair in the end and does curve at the end.
AWESOME AWESOME PROFESSOR!!! loved taking her class...lectures were actually interesting...and prob the only lecture all semester that i didnt sleep through...tests arent terrible if u read n go 2 lecture...overall this prof cares about how her students do and wants to help you...gave crazy extra credit for my semester. Take her class!
idk what these students are saying about her being a great professor, shes TERRIBLE her lectures are interesting but her tests are impossible to pass. overall avoid her if you can...i tried hard and failed her class :(
i went to class once, never did any experiments, and missed the 2nd midterm.i just read the textbook and took careful notes on it. all i needed on the final to get an A was an 85! not bad! she seemed nice the one time i was there and gives lots of extra credit (which i also didnt do) tests are right out of the text.
Prof Franklin in great. She is really a nice person and cares about her students. Her tests are tricky but she curves them also gives extra credit. If you go to lecture and read the textbook you should do fine :)
Great professor. Will explain things as many times as necessary to be clear. She makes her lectures interesting and fun with alot of in class experiments, despite our class size (Javits). I had her for a late class, but never minded going, she is an intelligent and engaging professor.
it's easy to like her. just be sociable. but that does nothing to doing well in class. we spent a great deal of time socializing in class instead of getting down to it and learn something. the text book is really confusing (human memory by ian neath)and 50% of the exam material comes from the text book. i will definitely avoid her in the future.
She is an amazing professor. She makes her class very interesting and allows for in class extra credit assignments. Just keep up with the readings (vocab basically) and you'll do fine- even if you don't come to the class!
Professor Franklin is a cool professor who makes things interesting. Her tests are all Multi-choice, but beware sometimes unimportant topics, (like effects of LSD) come up on the test, and you're left dumbfounded. Otherwise, she keeps things interesting. she's a little strange, but all in all a good professor. fair in her extra credit options too!
It's impossible to pass her class. I was so dumbfounded when I found out that I did not do so well on the final although I personally thought the test was extremely easy and clear. Then I thought there must be a mixup or an error, cuz I completed all the labs. Asked her for some explanation, machines are more trustworthy than students I guess.
Her lectures are really interesting. Just the textbook is way too long with useless information. Her midterms are based on both lecutres and textbook. She's a really cool teacher
Hard as hell
She's one of the most friendly professors I've ever had, but her tests aren't. They are multiple choice, but they based heavily on the text book which is pretty complex stuff (Psych of Memory).Over 50% of the exam includes the answers: all of the above, none of the above, or more than two of the above. Take only if your interested in the subject.
Go to class everytime and you will understand everything.
Don't take Psy 103 with this professor. Any new freshmen if you need to take this class take it with another professor.
Ok. Here's the truth: She's hard if you don't read the book. Her lectures are interesting and somewhat helpful for the major topics. Drops lowest midterm. Read the book, take notes, come to class and you'll get by. Basically she's a lot of work but it's pretty interesting most of the time.
ok - so shes a really fun lecturer and makes the class interesting- but- her tests are really hard- and tricky- u think u know the subject but u dont the questions are really vague- but she does give alot of extra credit which can boost your grade a whole letter-- so take her if u r willing to do te extra credit -
@ the begining I went to her classes but then i found out there was no point b/c she blabs on stuff that u have 2 read on anyways. there's no point in going. although she does extra credit but only picks out certain ones to count as extra credit so basicly if u want those extra credit u have show up everytime b/c u won't kno what days she'll give t
OMG i absolutly loved this class. It was the most interesting psych class and I loved her lectures. her tests are extremely extremely hard but they are curved alot. You have to read the whole text book and there are 9 CogLabs...mini experiments that need write ups... and 5 hrs of experiments outside of class. Its alot of work!
Attempts to remind you very lecture that she's the smartest person to ever walk the earth. Does ridicules stuff like brings her dog to lectures - no joke! Wish i never met her
tests based SOLELY on the textbook, lectures have no impact on the tests. her lectures might seem somewhat interesting but has a sort of god-complex. there are also random attendance checks. heavily curved class.
This class was kinda ridiculous. The lectures don't really discuss anything on the tests. The tests require that you read and understand pretty much everything. I suggest if you want to take this class, get another teacher
She was really entertaining and a lot of fun, but the tests were absolutely rediculous... super difficult tests and you REALLY have to read the textbook
interesting lectures but textbook is so boring. 2nd midterm contained a lot of information. coglabs are easy and you need to do 5 credits for psych lab
Hated her class! She is so dull it annoyed me. I never went to her class, and only half of the class was there when I actually went. You have to do experiments and these POINTLESS coglabs which you learn absolutely nothing from. She fronts like she's all so sweet but you can tell she is SO FAKE. She is actually a pretty nasty person.
By far my favorite teacher at the campus. She is hard as hell and can write test questions like it's no body's business, but she is awesome. What other class will you learn why you forgot to bring whipped cream to the bedroom or how 37 is lumpy like oatmeal.
this is the second time i'm taking her class. the first time i got a D bc i didn't go to lecture and read. now i go to every single class and read the entire text and do all of the questions in the book. i've gotten a 43/50 on the first exam and a 45/50 on the second exam. it's hard if you just bs- just go to class and read
She's really easy to understand, and helpful with your questions, even with 500 people in the class. It was my favorite class. She'll make you laugh, too! The tests have massive amounts of material, but that just means the questions are broader. All multiple choice too. Definitely a great class.
Lectures are interesting, she explains things fairly and clearly. Her tests are hard and tricky, mainly from textbook readings. The readings are way too long and too detailed. I recommend taking this class with a different professor if possible.
This is one of the HARDEST intro classes you will take. She makes the tests IMPOSSIBLE!There r readings for each class consistin of 30-40 pages each and she said she bases her test on material that is on lecture and not in the text book + whats in the text book + not in lecture. She was useless! Studying for her test were hell! AVOID HER AT ALL COST!
the class is interesting. she's a good speaker. but her exams are tricky. there's a lot of reading to do, and the exams are pretty much based off of the text.
Very fun and friendly professor. Has some interesting quirks (Has not owned a television in 15 years). VERY dependent on the textbook, so be prepared for reading a lot. Nonetheless the tests are fairly easy. I have barely opened the textbook and have been getting 80s on exams. It's not that bad.
This was the first psy class i have ever taken and she made me hate it with a passion! Tests are based on lectures AND readings, which are incredible long! and i attend lecture and did readings and i have a C average..Stay away from this professor! Take Psy with another professor if u have the option!!!!! U HAVE BEEN WARNED!
lectures are fun if you have someone to talk to during class. the readings are long and tedious, and you must study thoroughly through the reading in order to achieve a high score. avoid her, especially if you're just going for dec credit.
Lectures tend to be boring and really relies on her TA to handle all of the weekly homework and grading. Felt like I had more of a relationship with him than her. Just make sure to do the readings and go to reviews the TA gives for the exams. No mandatory attendence. Some extra credit and she curves final grade; no one gets below a c- in the course
its a ok.
Her lectures are very important on her midterms so I would go them. They are extremely boring most of the time, so make a friend in the lecture hall to make small talk with the entire time. She relies on her TAs to do all of her grading and scoring, so I felt as if I don't know her at all. Midterms are do-able even without reading, but I would
I love Prof. Franklin. I always looked forward to coming to class - her lectures are fun and make learning easy. The text was perfect too - straight forward, clear, and interesting. I took some notes in class, read most of the text. Before exams, I reviewed my notes and took the text chapter review quizzes. I got an A...and learned a lot.
Her lecture is interesting, but it is not related to the tests. "You make the call" is the only way to get 5 extra credits, which is another way to check your attendance. If you hand it in each time, you will get all 5(No matter what your answer is). You need to read the whole books. Questions in mid-terms and the final are tricky. Not an easy A.
I loved this class. The thing is, you can't count on the lectures alone to get good grades. She's a great speaker, but she only talks about the "interesting stuff" in lectures. As long as you read and study the textbook too, an A is not that hard to get ..
Even though being a psychology major helps you try to learn the numerous pages that you have to read for this class, it doesn't help. Her exams are barely based on lecture and on the book. Do not take this class for an intro class, take another professor.
Horrible Professor. The Curve is impossible. Did all the readings[the whole textbook], studied A LOT, Lectures are unrelated to exams, Getting a C so far. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Worse teacher ever, dont really learn anything from her and tests are really hard. better off learning psy by yourself by reading
All the raters here have been really unfair. She is extremely helpful, and lecture material does appear on the exams. However, you should probably read the text as well. I did a moderate amount of studying for this class and got an A. Oh, and the final is optional! Or a midterm, depending which one you do worse on or skip.
You have to read the textbook and attend lecture. It's annoying, but that's how I got an A. She doesn't teach everything in the bk and she mentions stuff in class that's not in the bk that is on the test. Nice person though and nice TA's. Very enthusiastic. They gave an extra credit at the end of the semester.
she seems like a nice professor but really shes not. i asked her about how the gradings works and how i got my grades and she gave me an attitude when i asked her about it and blew me off.
dont take her class.
I didn't like her class. It did not really pertain to what we should be learning. She goes off topic a lot. There was extra credit in the end. Her exam is hard. Take another professor
Had her last semester. Always looked forward to her lectures! They were always very interesting :) But her tests were pretty difficult. You have to carefully read through the text, do the chapter exams and listen to the audio while you read; it helps. I managed a B, good luck :)
Took her this spring. She never taught most of what was on the exam, but in her defense she said she would not. Her lectures are meant to supplement the book, not replace. Keep up with the readings and do the practice tests in the book and you will be fine.
I have started taking PSY 103 this fall with Dr.Franklin and its the best thing that has happened to me. It is such an interesting class with all that psychological and scientific research thinking that she tries to instill in us. It is like actually "learning psychology" and not just notes and tests. Reading has to be regular to get a decent grade
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER. DROP THIS CLASS. TRUST ME. A WASTE OF TIME CLASS THAT WILL TAKE ALLLLL OF YOUR TIME FOR A POINTLESS SUBJECT. SHE THINKS HER CLASS IS MOST IMPORTANT AND DOESNT TEACH ANYTHING IN CLASS BUT REQUIRES HUNDREDS OF PAGES TO BE READ FOR EACH CLASS AND ASKS TOO SPECIFIC OF QUESTIONS FOR A 100 LEVE PSYCHOLOGY CLASS.
Ok. She might not teach as much as people want but how could she. You want her to teach 120 pages in 2 lectures? She makes everything that is hard in the chapter very clear with her examples. You technically don't have to show up, but if you want a good grade then you should go. I love the class. She is a nice break in the day and very enthusiastic
For all the people who are complaining, what do you expect? How is she suppose to teach over 500 pages of material? Well. anyway, the class isn't too bad, it can be very interesting at times. Expect ALOT of reading.
Do not ever ever take this class!! She is the worst teacher I have ever met. She never give our tests back after they've been graded. She is helpless;she can make your life miserable seriously.
DONT TAKE IT
I hate this class
Psychology is definitely an interesting subject to study. However, Franklin somewhat makes it too hard. Stuff in exmas are 99% from textbook which she doesn't cover during lectures. Reading textbook is ALOT of work. No extra credits. If you are willing to do work, it's an okay class. but if you consider urself lazy, NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS.

She's ridiculously hard. I didn't learned anything. Barely passed her class. NOTE: don't taker her class.
Terrible teacher, just spams emails and never teaches anything in lectures about the exams. The Exams are the only thing that matters, no extra credit, and getting a good grade depends on how well you memorize the text book. Absolutely waste of time, do not get this teacher or this class, she doesn't even have any lee-way, her way or none.
alright teacher. dislike the fact that the course is only based on tests, which is entirely based on the textbook. lectures are not helpful.
If you're not a PSY major DO NOT TAKE. This class lowered my GPA severely
Terrible, terrible professor. She rambles on in class about unrelated topics, and briefly touches on the hardest topics but does not go into detail. Tests ask specific details from the textbook. She is very full of herself and unapproachable. Definitely one of the worst professors ever.
if you like to read textbooks.. take it. you really dont need to go the class. she teaches only 20% of a textbook, yet she asks it on exams.
She is very lively and friendly professor. She smiles all the time and cares about students. I don't like the fact that the grades are only based on exams. If you really like to learn take her class. she makes class interesting.
Tests are completely based on the text book. Class is totally ridiculous and boring. She randomly accused me of cheating on an exam and offered no explanation of why. Now I have to deal with an unwarranted academic dishonesty charge and still have to finish the class. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
Her class is interesting. She's not that bad, but I do not recommend Franklin. Her midterm is mostly based on textbook not her lecture note. If you read the textbook, this class should be easy.
She's sweet as pie! ANY PSY 103 class is going to be a bad time BUT 367 is clear and easy; short, simple exams. No final. She is very clear and has a very positive attitude. Certainly reccomended for a PSY elective.
TAs deducting HW points for 'floating commas' and other tiny nuances, while giving students absolutely no feedback, was ridiculous in a PSY class. If you had the energy to go to their office hours, I estimate that half the time, they would end up giving you full credit because they had no legitimate reason for taking points off anyway.
If you don't read the chapters assigned you will NOT pass. She picks one tiny bit of info and spends the whole class lecturing on it when she should be talking about other topics as well. It was still an interesting class..despite all the reading.
Lots of textbook reading, if youre into that... only helpful if you go out of youre way for extra help.
I don't recommend her class because she has cumulative final. So you have to know the entire 500+ pages of the book for the final Other professor Gerrig doesn't do cumulative final. So you guys should take him instead of her if you want a good grade!
The class is a lot of fun, but you must work hard. For serious students only. Don't just show up and hope to pass because you probably won't!
Class attendance is optional since she doesn't cover most of the topics on her exams. Reading the text book is a must. Whatever she goes over in class is a plus. She is funny and engaging in class. Its a shame that she doesn't teach all the topics. But then again, you meet all kinds of professors in college.
She's engaging and interesting during lectures, but whatever she taught in class are not helpful for the exams. You must read the textbook in order to get a good grade.
Never stays on topic.
She made the topic of memory so interesting and is a very kind soul!
DO NOT TAKE PSYCHOLOGY WITH HER. Im usually an A student that doesn't mind doing work, but this class is a TON textbook work. Lectures are pointless; she jumps around from topic to topic & never goes over material for the exam. Will assign up to 200 pages for a 30 question exam and its hard to tell what will be tested-43 people failed the last exam
I LOVE PSYCHOLOGY BUT THIS WAS MY BIGGEST MISTAKE. She doesn't go over any material in class and expects you to read A LOT. All of the good reviews on here were legitimately probably written by her because she's big with these online contests SHE SENDS ME EMAILS DAILY REMINDING ME TO SAVE CATS. Crazy lady, but really nice. IMPOSSIBLE TO DO WELL.
This Professor is very challenging. You MUST read the entire text book. I spent about 15 hrs studying for each of her tests. An A is doable, but you must work for it. Take notes while you read the chapters and do all the "stop & review" questions. Good luck!
What can I say about Nancy Franklin. Well, if it wasn't for her "daily quizzes" that were soley implemented so you'd have to attend, I would just read the textbook. Regardless if I went to her lectures or not, I'd still get the same grade. The funny thing is, Franklin knows this which is exactly why she makes you take these quizzes.
This class is interesting, but the work involved is tremendous. Franklin doesn't go over TB material, which is basically the entire exam. Interesting class, nice lady, but not helpful. It is completely up to you to work you butt off for that A.
She does powerpoints and puts them on blackboard, but the tests are worded horribly and very hard to comprehend. Her lectures are clear. I would walk away from a test thinking i did okay, but my grades were not as high as i expected. She is not open to students at all. If you have to, take the class but i dont recommend her.
She is a very intelligent woman, very funny, and appears to be a nice person. Read the text book and you'll do fine. Maybe not the best class for a freshman to take, it's a lot of information.
The only hard part of the class is the test, everything else is easy. If you want to get an A, you have to go to class because a quiz question is worth more than a test question. The text book is very boring, better off studying the notes. Its not a hard class but i won't recommend it.
She's a pretty good professor & keeps class interesting. She takes questions from students, but hardly anything from the lectures are on the tests. You don't even have to go to class- study from the textbook & you'll do well on exams. Also, your final grade is exactly the way it's on the syllabus. I was 3 points away from an A & I still got a B+.
exams = textbook reading, not lectures; class is interesting & she takes questions from students; she's sometimes rude & mean to students; final grade is the way it's written out on the syllabus; hardly no extra credit & NO CURVE
I definitely don't agree with the majority of people here. Professor Franklin is one of my favorite professors. Her lectures are fun and dynamic. I find the tests very easy and straightforward. You just have to read the book. I honestly thought PSY 103 is one of the easiest classes at Stony Brook. I am shocked so many people have some trouble in it
I thought she was fair overall-she gives extra credit which you should definitely take advantage of. The exams are mainly based off of textbook vocabulary and a few powerpoint references.
While in her class i became very sick ad was unable to attend class. I took one of her exams with over 102 fever and was unable to take another because i couldn't get out of bed. I rarely get sick and have never asked for any extensions but for the first time I asked to take the exam the next day and she refused to accept my doctors note.
The worst Professor there is at Stony Brook.
Dr. Franklin seems to be a pretty cool person but she is hard in class and I don't think she would give anyone a break. Her class is definitely challenging but I am learning a lot from her. She's pretty easy on the eyes too ;) Great smile! Would recommend, I guess.
I found this class to be interesting. Dr. Frankling was very entertaining and straight forward. If you go to class and keep up with the reading, you'll get a good grade. I wasn't particularly interested in psychology before taking this class, but I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed it.
She is the worst. She tries to make the class "fun" but her "jokes" put you too sleep. She reads off the powerpoints and rambles on for about half an hour to then quiz you EVERY CLASS! I regret taking her class one thousand percent, not worth it.
she is extremely humorous and nice. however, she also carries huge ability of turning an interesting course into a tough one. I barely pass this course.
This was the worst class i've ever taken. Most of the work is online and it always messed up and there was no way to get your points back. Her tests make you feel like you never studied. Her Cog Labs are subjective. I do not recommend her as a professor for this class. STAY AWAY for your GPA's sake.
Professor Franklin is by far the best professor I had this semester. The class and tests are challenging but we had great TAs who held review sessions. Professor Franklin and the TAs were really enthusiastic and approachable. I loved all 3 of them and laughed so much during class. It felt like going to a comedy club. She's a really sweet lady.
I wouldnt take her again. Quiz on clicker at end of class after she quickly goes through slides that are covered on exam along with 150pages of material. If you walk into an exam confident, you prob won't walk out that way.. Coglabs cannot be late! Even if your ill.. If you have to take this class, attend, and take notes on chpts as you read
Have to read the book and show up to class or she will stop putting lecture slides online. Tests are hard and there is homework every week. Franklin is absent-minded but has a nice, curvy (!) TA who stays on top of it for her
Professor Franklin is the best!! Her lectures are always interesting with plenty of TED talks to make the time go a little faster. The tests are a combination of textbook and lecture but a lot of it overlaps. I'm definitely going tot take another course that she teaches.
Psy103 is not easy. Nancy often illustrates some theories with funny performance. There are also TED videos played every class. But to be honest, it's still hard and makes yon wanna sleep.
This class was insanely hard. She uses the lectures and the very dense textbook on all of her tests. If you're taking this class for a DEC, it's a huge challenge. If you're a psych major, try to take this class with another professor, just to save your GPA.
She is a very nice lady but her class is basically useless. You have to memorize the textbook for the tests and she takes attendance through clicker questions every lecture. Not worth it.
Here lectures are essentially useless. She nevers gives out the exams or tells you an example of the type of questions on the exams. The grading policy sucks for this class. No curve, makes a really interesting class, much more difficult than it needs to be.
I don't know why these people are saying the class is hard. I didn't even bother looking at the textbook and got an A-. She is a great professor. To study for the tests, I watched the lectures over right before the test. Being a bad test-taker, I managed to good on them. Oh, and do your experiment hours early to take advantage of the extra credit!
This course was not had at all. In my opinion, she's the easier PSY 103 professor. She skips over many things in her lectures but her exams are very fair. I just attended lectures, read the textbook and got an A. She is very willing to help students. This course is definitely an easy DEC.
Her lectures cover most topics- I did not read the textbook and still received a good grade in the class. Textbook use would improve this class to an easy A. Attendance is measured by clicker questions, but most of the test material is covered in class. She is also very enthusiastic, and tries to bring in a lot of TED talks to spice it up.
Professor Franklin is a wonderful lady, she is nice yet sometimes stern. The material is very interesting. You must read the textbook before or after class. Manage your time well and don't be lazy. The people who gave bad reviews are probable just lazy. Read the textbook and attend all classes to answer the clicker questions and you'll be fine.
Good class. Clicker questions asked in every class best out of 50 is used. Sometimes she does like 5-7 in one class that was a bit nerve racking. Very nice and helpful. Uses material from textbook and lecture on tests. 3 Midterms - 1 Final (accumulative)
She seems so nice during lectures but the tests are impossible. No matter which way you study (lectures slides or textbook or both) it's so hard to get a good grade on the test. Attendance is mandatory because every class there are clicker questions that you can't miss because they count as quizzes... So there's a quiz every class.
I don't understand yet why some people say that exams are hard. Grades are curved and there are a lot of options to maintain your grade on high level (clickers, participation in studies, extra credit, etc). So if if you use all these options than it's not that necessary to have very high exam grades... Enjoyed every lecture.
Love her as a professor. I think her lectures are great, and really get the entire hall interested in the subject area. Make sure to keep up with the readings or else the tests could be ten times harder. I would so love to have her again
Professor Franklin is really nice and quirky. Her lectures are filled with TED talks on relevant subjects and she always puts the lecture slides online. There's about 2-3 clicker questions a class and I recommend looking at the textbook on a occasion. She's a really great professor, I recommend her.
Her tests combine the textbook and her lectures, so you kind of do need to buy the textbook in order to do well. She gives clicker points if you get them right, and they're included in your final grade. Overall, pretty fair.
This was the only class I had this semester that I actually looked forward to going to.
This is a hard intro class, you have to do all the reading and attend lecture or the exams will kill your grade. She very smart and I really enjoyed listening to her but I think the exams are a little over the top for a 100 level. If you dont attend class you lose clicker points which add up and dont be lazy and complete the experiment hours asap.
Good professor. Quirky, funny, knows her stuff well. She's good at what she does and doesn't run around in circles or goes off on a tangent like other professors. Class was difficult for an intro course, though, and messed up my GPA. Tests were difficult and had to study for them more than for some of my higher level ones. Not at all unfair, though
Very compassionate about what she teaches so she expects you to put in the same effort she does. Lectures are power points and easy to follow. Clicker quizzes at the end of every class so you should show up. Answers questions thoroughly. Tests are VERY specific and many random questions from the textbook. Study way before to get a good grade.
Loved Nancy. Looked forward to her lectures & I loved her hilarious, dorky personality. Her tests aren't a walk in the park, however she does drop the lowest test score since there is no curve. The textbook is SO helpful and crucial to getting an A in this class. Textbook majority of final. Midterms 50% textbook content, 50% lecture content.
Please go to all lectures, read the book and go over lecture notes before exams, she makes the class seem easy from the beginning but that's when people do bad on exams. People are very hard on her, but that's because they perceived the class as an easy intro to psychology from the beginning. It's definitely a weed-out class, not an easy A.
While she read things off the lectures I found ONLY after the first midterm that everything came from the textbook. Almost everything is memorization.
Great teacher, very nice, happy, and friendly. She set up the class very fairly.
Professor Franklin was great! She's extremely charismatic and energetic and tries her best to make class fun and interesting. She gives a lot of clicker questions that count towards participation points. She makes you really work for your grade because her tests are a combo of very specific information from both the textbook and her lectures.
Her personality is quite good but her exams are insanely hard. I hope you guys avoid this class if you can... Just save your GPA.
Read the textbook from front to back, those words italicized that you think aren't important are! That's the only way your passing, lectures have little to do with exams. She's just talking about popular experiments the whole time. However, lectures are kind of mandatory because the clicker questions throughout the class is your attendance grade.
Franklin is amazing! She is so passionate about what she teaches. It is true that you have to somewhat read the textbook for the class though. But if you pay attention in class all the time, the textbook is not extremely important. She also offers many chances for extra credit!!
I took Professor Franklin for Cognitive Psychology and she has a talent for teaching this course. I loved her lectures!!!! Exams can be tough.
She gives amazing lectures but the midterms and finals are very tough! It tests the details of your textbook readings so you MUST read the textbook cover to cover. She gives extra credit and does clicker questions from the first minute to the last minute of class. Good and funny, but tough teacher.
She goes over concepts in class in a repetitious way. It's basically her teaching a few concepts of a chapter over a span of the entire lecture which is pretty unnecessary. You don't really get much out of the lecture since what she teaches isn't in the book.
You have to read the textbook in order to get good grade!! clicker questions in every classes.
Her lectures are really fun, interesting and inspiring. You can miss some classes because she only takes 40 clicker questions for the semester. But I really recommend to go to lectures because even if you forget something on the test paper the interesting facts she mentioned in the lecs will help you out. Do read your textbook though!!
Don't take PSY103 with her if you're not ready to read the entire textbook because she lectures on whatever she wants but will test you on anything in the lecture and textbook so get ready to read a ton. She's pretty nice but you'll have to read a lot in her class and her lectures will put you to sleep.
Prof Franklin is really into teaching psychology and you can tell that she loves what she does. Her lectures are very interesting and I've never been bored in class. However, you NEED to keep up with the textbook readings (there's A LOT of reading)! Her tests are mostly things that are straight from the textbook and barely from the lectures.
Professor Franklin is really great, you can tell she really loves what she's teaching about. I would definitely recommend you pick her if you're taking PSY103. She's really funny and keeps her lectures interesting. Only downside is that you need to read to textbook cover to cover.
She's really nice and her lectures are interesting, however, the exams are pretty much entirely based on the textbook. You don't even need to study the slides to do well, just be ready to cram whole chapters into your memory. Attending class is is important for clicker points, but you don't even have to get the questions right; just be present.
Exams are heavily based on the textbook, not her slides/teachings. If you didn't take any class which could potentially prepare you for this class, I would not recommend taking this because you have to memorized A LOT of materials, and it's hard to distinguish "important info" from "insignificant info" in the textbook.
She's a really nice/great professor all around but if you take her class be prepared to read an entire chapter from the textbook a week to keep up. The exams are based on the textbook, not the lectures. Come to class for clicker point credit.
She's a very nice person overall but lectures are long, boring and dry for the most part. Sometimes she goes off on tangents or puts on too many videos but I would usually just zone out during those times. Just read the textbook and you'll ace this class. Lectures are for clicker points only.
She is very passionate about what she does, her lectures are great an engaging. She is a super nice lady and always excited about answering questions after class or in office hours (by appointment). The tests are very detailed so pay attention in class and read the textbook.
She's a great person I'm sure. She has a great personality and is clearly very passionate about psychology. Her class however is very tedious and she spends 30 minutes on one single slide and it honestly confuses me. Her test reflect the textbook, not the lecture. You need to keep up with reading or risk reading 160 pages in one night for a test.
she doesnt review what will be on the test. her slides make any sense if you dont go to the lectures. her slides miss A LOT of info that is on the test. the tests are 80% of your grade. need to go to class for clicker questions. unless youre willing to read the textbook and learn it all on your own, dont take her.
4 tests & drops lowest score (80%), clicker q's (15%) and research req (5%). MUST GO TO CLASS. she breaks down every concept that will be on the test to make it easy to understand. for tests: use lecture slides to make an outline, then use the book to fill in the blanks. the tests r 70% lecture info, 30% book info. VERY NICE LADY. VERY PASSIONATE.
Her power points literally sound like a 3rd grader wrote them. If i didn't go to class and read the text book (which is very helpful) id have absolutely no idea what she was talking about. She rambles and doesn't make any sense. I am not hard on profs nor am i lazy, sincerely don't know what she is saying half the time!
She's a really sweet lady. There are 4 tests (she drops the lowest) and they are all out of 30. They're tough, but fair. Pretty equal balance between what you learn in class and what you learn in the reading. You have to go to enough classes to get the maximum clicker points (but the questions are very easy) and you have to do SONA hours.
Overall a heavy reading course. Do not take if looking for an easy A.
Professor Franklin is a really cool professor, she is cute and her lectures are fun. The only hard thing I have met was to study for the exams. Remember to read the textbooks and pay attention to both details and big ideas, also pay attention in class. Her clicker questions and curve saved me.
Honestly, it was difficult at least for me. You do have to read a lot and sometimes the test is worded funny.
She is far the best. This first year is really very hard, franklin makes it best with use of her knowldge in cognitive psychology to input knowldge in our brains.
I had Nancy first semester freshman year. If you read the text book, you should be good. She puts a lot from the books on her tests. I recommend printing out the notes before class and then writing down stuff she says. Overall, you can tell she loves the subject and it's a great class.
Whatever you do, don't take Nancy Franklin. Her exams are arbitrarily difficult with minimal reference to what is covered in class. Even if you master yourself in the important terms highlighted in the textbook and go to every class, you will struggle to maintain an A. She makes fascinating concepts seem dry and mundane. Worst teacher I've taken.
She's not terrible. Be ready to actually read your textbooks and talk about something different in class. The classes are large, mines over 360 students. If you need hands on this isn't a class for you but if you're a visual and auditory learner it's fairly straightforward.
I generally enjoyed Professor Franklin's class. There were 3 tests and a final (if you want to pass READ THE TEXTBOOK!!!). Attendance wasn't necessarily mandatory, but participation points are based off the quiz questions at the end of the lecture. Research Experiment hours are required but they're super easy to get done throughout the semester.
absolutely worst class I've ever taken. Her tests are far too difficult and she doesn't prepare you for it at all. Her lectures are completely useless for the tests, and you have to read the textbook cover to cover. Basically you're teaching yourself and you can't even get the tests back to go over it. Do not take this class, worst professor ever.
She isn't hard to listen to and I enjoyed going to her lectures even though she posted them. just read the textbook and its an easy a
She has clicker questions in the lecture but doesnt care what answer you put, only that you answer. She posts the lecture slides online, but they don't have all the info. Reading the textbook will definitely help, but I just read the chapter summaries. She's an okay professor and there isn't too much work. Gave 4 tests, but drops the lowest.
Prof. Franklin has great personality and can entertain the class (although some of the TED Talks can be boring). She expects a lot from her students in that they have to read the textbook to answer some questions to the exams. If you don't read and do the practice textbook questions, good luck getting an A.
DONOT TAKE HER CLASS! SHE IS VERY VERY MEAN
Just do the clickers from home and study the textbook. Most of what she talks about in lecture is relevant to what you're learning, but never on exams.
Everything on the test basically comes from the textbook. Useful information given in lecture. She makes the class interesting but the actual exams are all from text book readings. Attendance matter, clicker questions are given throughout class so you can't really miss class.
Have her for Psych 103. Shes so hilarious and she makes the lectures super fun! Sometimes she goes by the slides kinda quick but its okay if youre payijg attention. Not everything she puts on the slides are necessary to take notes on. Overall thought shes a great teacher and explains psychology very well
She is a nice professor. Sometimes, she tries to make some jokes during class, but they are not funny at all. I personally don't enjoy the environment of her class. And, you have to go to class; otherwise, you won't know what her slides are about. If you can take other class to replace, just take others. Not suggesting to take her class anyhow.
Great lectures, she really knows what she is talking about and is passionate about teaching. Exams are pretty fair for the most part.
Amazing lectures. Very hard tester-my advisor called her the toughest in the psych department. Uses echo, so you can access everything from home but she also uses clicker questions for 20% of the grade or so
Hardest class I've ever taken. Studying won't help you pass the tests. Her tests are solely passed on the chapter reading and have nothing to do with her slides in class. Her tests are extremely challenging and she knows it. She has a great personality but her tests kill.
Dr. Franklin is an amazing lecturer- just reading her slides aren't enough to get the full understanding you could have if you actively listened to her lectures, where she does a really fantastic job of making the content more digestible. A loooot of material covered on exams, but a lot of HW opportunities to make up for it. Very knowledgeable.
Professor Franklin is the most amazing professor I have ever had. She is so helpful, makes boring concepts interesting, and really keeps her class engaged. Highly recommended.
honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had at SB. unfair grading as there are only 30 mc questions with so much information to learn. there are clicker questions and sona experiments which in reality saved my grade. if you can avoid taking a class with her, do so. your GPA will thank you.
My favorite professor at Stony Brook. Doesn't take attendance, and uploads the slides. Tests can be tricky, as she really does want to make sure you understand the content rather than just memorized the words. Highly recommend going to the lectures, though. She's passionate and funny and cares about her students and it shows.
Very good prof, just long classes, and most credit is from exams.
Dr. Franklin is a wonderful professor, her lectures are interesting and engaging. The material isn't necessarily difficult but don't expect an easy a. Very kind, super thankful to have had her as a professor during 2020. She really cares about her students.
