This wasn't as easy as it sounded but she is a lot of fun and very open minded. The tests are easy if you just read all the chapters. The journals are a pain but if you do all the homework, post on the discussion board and show up, you can get an A or B

Although this was a hard class, I really learned a lot. Nancy makes the material real to our lives by sharing examples from her life. Some of the group work was frustrating, but that was because of my group members. Overall, I really liked this class.

Great teacher, very intelligent and passionate. Anyone who says she is not a good teacher did not want to do the work. Her class changed my life. I highly reccomend if your willing to do the work, listen, and apply yourself. A must take.

Outgoing instructor and casual class atmosphere. I thought that the workload was a bit much for 3 units, more than any other class I took this semester. Although not difficult, get ready to spend a large amount of time outside of class on this subject.

She's a great teacher. She was hard, though, the speeches take a LOT of your time! I took her in 2002. The class chooses final. It was fun. You learn a lot about your classmates, this class does a good job making you feel about being in school. Great satisfaction when your over the class.

She is a great teacher.I was so desperate about failing but she helped me a lot.It is not easy class but if you do your homeworks and if she feels you trying to pass then you will pass.

There are teachers that love what they do and with her it really shows. This class should be 4 or 5 units though, SO much work (in all fairness she did warn people about that at the beginning of the semester). But then again, you learn a lot of very valuable tools for your life. Great all around teacher, we need more like her.

Hemmert is one of the best at SMC. She challenges us, but we learn alot. If you don't like her style its probably because you didn't want to learn.

Grass Hemmert is a challenging and inspiring teacher. I would take any class she teaches because I would always learn from her. She expects a lot from her students, but the students that actually step up and actually do the work learn and experience knowing what it feels like to be able to do so much more than we ever thought we could.

LOVE this very cool & knowledgeable instructor. Engaging lectures.Draws examples from personal experience, which is helpful.The group project is the hardest part;the rest is easy.Can be a hard grader, but at least she gives extra credit, plus she's a REALLY NICE person.Even though I DREAD public speaking, this class was a very pleasant experience.

Nancy is one of the best teachers in the college. Her Speech1 class is for non-native english speakers. That makes foreign students' life easier . If you want to learned something useful I recommend u to take her class.

Nancy, is one of the reasons that I am still in college. I have taken many of her classes. She is a professor that really cares about her students. She is funny and helpful but if you don't want to learn or be present or don't like to get the matterial related to real life then don't take her class. Nancy is the nicest and most kind teacher I had at SMC, when I took her class it was fun and interesting, she would always make it fun. I would recommend this professor to anyone.

For an 8 week course, it's an extraordinary amount of work. If you're taking 12 other units, do not take her class. Speech every 2 weeks; you'll read about 4-5 chap. a week. Very fast paced. 10% Extra Credit which is nice. Hard workers can easily get an A in this class, but be prepared not to have a life. She's a very sweet woman. Take if ur good.

I am currently taking 12 units + her 8 week class, and although I have straight As--I have absolutely no life. I spend 7 days of my week studying and preparing assignments. She demands a lot from her students; but in return, makes the student well prepared for the real world. For any serious student, I highly recommend.

It was one of the most hard but easy class. She is a wonderful teacher & uses her life experiences as examples as she lectures. Her test r kind of hard. You come to this class learning stuff that you'll certainly use daily. It's a great class and you have an opportunity of doing 100 point extra credit which bumps your grade one letter grade. She gives 10 points for each outline that you make for each chapter of the book. It's necessary to read the book for the test and I believe doing the outlines

She is the best teacher ever. You only have 2 mid terms but you can take them with a partner. She explains things well, and her class is so enriched with material that it truly gets "in your blood". The material you learn r so practical in every day life. She has so much extra credit that they have the ability to bring you up one full letter grade.

If shes available take her! its not the easiest class, but youll get so much out of taking her. It doesnt feel like you are going to class. shes the most sweetest teacher you'll ever encounter here at SMC. you will meet some great people here and she will have you question and find yourself and change your views in a good way.

Best professor I've had at SMC. she's so smart and truly loves all her students. You'll never find anyone who does more office hrs than her, don't mistake that for an easy class. Participate and you'll do well for sure. She's such a positive model for lesbians. Btw, she wrote the book for the class as well and she takes pride in it, as she should

Just finished the online class this Fall 2010 semester. My classmates and I universally decided this class is probably on of the most important classes you can take in our current 'global village' climate. Professor GH guides and coaches you each week and is very fair in her grading and feedback. I'll actually miss logging in every week! A+

Such an amazing person. You learn so much about yourself in this class. It's not the easiest class but all of the hard work is well worth it. She's willing to help if you ask and cares a lot about her students. Don't be late to her class! Attendance is important and she will call you out on it. I cannot say enough positive things about her. She really loves what she does and that's what makes class more enjoyable. She is very engaging and clear. She likes to use life stories to help teach which makes her more relatable and down to earth. READ BOOK TO PASS TESTS! I got an A in the class. It't no cake walk, but worth the effort.

The first and the best teacher I've ever had in my college experience. I came from a university and Nancy outrates all of them! I highly recommend her class! Amazing teacher, thought her class was super hard. As a international student, she really knows how to communicate with other cultures. She gives you the chance of getting 10% extra credit which is very helpful. I got an F on my first exam, C on my second, did all extra credit and a presentation. Ended up with a B, did not expect that ;)

Professor Grass is one of my favorite teachers that I've ever had. She tells a ton of life stories while lecturing, so you get a clear picture of real-life scenarios regarding the material and also get to learn a lot about Grass herself. She's so incredibly funny, caring, and so kind. I highly recommend taking a class with her!

Dr. Grass is a tough grader, but she gives clear grading criteria & great feedback. Shell let you re-do assignments. She helps you write amazing speeches, but the final is made up of info from the book, & you have to read it, study, review it all on your own. I didnt learn anything from her online lectures & felt like they were a waste of time.

Dr. Grass is a true class act and really does care about how her students do. I would highly recommend taking her class,ESPECIALLY if you are dreading the required comm class. She will grade you honestly, but she will also be there 100% of the way to help you work through it, rework it and is very flexible w/timelines as long as you participate.

She is so caring, loving, and funny. Yes, she is a though grader BUT she also gives ALL the chances to have a better grade. Go to her office hours as much as possible. Show up, participe in class and you will actually learn something ! She is the BEST, sincerely
