Grades everything on format...stupid. She thinks she knows everything and you know nothing. She is not understanding about anything that happens in real life. ie if you get sick or your car doesnt start. extremely sarcastic about everything. DO NOT take this teacher if you have a choice.
Professor Hall is not loved by all. Her class is pretty tough too. But, she actually makes you LEARN (the point of college) things. She may be a bit rough to people, but if you make a concerted effort by doing things like asking her questions after class and going to her office hours for her to look at your paper, she will do her best to help.
SO HARD! Not an easy A at all, but you will learn a lot. She is not the nicest woman & you cannot ask her for help or she'll make you feel stupid. If you can help it, do not take her.
do not take this teacher. she seems to think her class is the only thing in the world that matters. do not go to her for help she does not care what you are going thru she will not help you. she assigns alot and is very sarcastic if you ask for help on anything. she is a terrible teacher.
Prof. Hall is very nice. She makes jokes every once in a while. She does not like to repeat herself after she has asked if there are any questions. Going to class help out a lot. Writing the length she asks and writing the type of essay is an easy A or B
The best professor I had this semester. She does not tolerate slackers and has a no nonsense attitude. I came into this class thiking that my writing was the next best thing since sliced bread but she helped me improve it so much. Perhaps the best wrc professor at UTSA. Very very recommended.
Horrible professor! I used to get all A's in writing until I took Professor Hall. She only grades on formatting and she is rude as hell. There is also an assignment every class, well more often than not. Try not to take this teacher, she is hard and not helpful.
As an average student i thought i would fail this class but Mrs. hall is very helpful and has an intellectual side of humor. I got a C with minimal effort pretty good professor
This teacher is too busy showcasing her power to help the students in the learning process. She is absolutely useless and it is a miracle that she has lasted this long as a professor. If you have any questions don't ask her because not only will your question be rejected but she will make you feel horrible for asking it!
Good professor. Slackers and lazy students BEWARE! This is a class for serious students who want to work for their grade and improve in writing. Professor Hall does an excellent job in grading papers to help you get a better grade on the next one!!
This teacher is probably the worst professor I've had thus far. She is VERY scatter-brained and unclear of what she wants in a paper. Once she grades your paper, she'll leave rude comments on it. She undermines students' intelligence often. Also does not teach, just assigns work. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Really rude lady.
she makes you actually learn. there are a lot of papers and a lot of quizzes. the papers are annoying but she helps you and gives you extra credit. the quizzes are very easy. also a lot of group work.
rudeeee! does not teach! yes, you will learn but by yourself. everyday you will turn in about two assignments and get two more. keep up! no late work accepted even with a deduction of points. be ready to get criticized! she does not help so don't ask for it! peer review is what got me through this class!
HORRIBLE! SHE wants what she wants when she wants it, no excuses, even if she contradicts herself. she is very confusing and only tells you what you do wrong. Don't miss a class or you will regret it because she has no problem telling you her class is the most important thing in your life.
I have a few observations and comments to share. Prof. Hall is flighty, unruly, and wishy-washy. Furthermore, she yearns to preach hatred. In particular, she is willing to promote truth and justice when it's convenient. But when it threatens her creature comforts, she throws principle to the wind.
At first, she seems like she will be a very helpful teacher but then her true colors show. I don't know how she gets through papers when she can't even be clear on the assignment, EVER! She always contradicts herself and she's extremely rude and seriously thinks she knows it all. She was ridiculous and doesn't grade fairly.
Professor Hall will give you an A if you let her know that you are willing to work hard and have an interest in writing. I would recommend showing her your rough drafts and asking her what she thinks of them, because sometimes her initial instructions for the assignments are impossible to understand.
She is easy compared to others. A lot of work, but I've gotten A's on a paper I BSed lol
Honestly, this teacher is really easy. She does give ALOT of work so its very important to attend each class, but its not like the work is hard. Iv gotten all A's in my paper and i BS alot of it and their all done last minute.
She is funny!! (especially when she talks to the goofs of the class) You need to show up to class to do "A" work, otherwise you will just pass her class.
Have you ever wondered how some professors are still employed? Hall is one of those. At first, she seems very understanding, but as soon as you have a question on your grade, she'll shut down and, for the rest of the class, reprimand you for questioning her. She's very passive agressive and, uh, I hate her.
She is a good teacher who's more than willing to help her students, but It's not difficult to see why her ratings are so bad. Most kids take the class because they have to, and she refuses to give easy grades to those who don't even try. She can be rude to ones who clearly have no interests, but she'll really respect ones who try hard.
If you love to write essays then take her because all she gives out is essay after essay! you do presentations too so if you arent comfortable about talking in front of people dont take her. If you do something wrong she is more an likely to make fun of you in front of the class. I hate this class she gives to much dam work, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Take ANY other professor other than her. She's absolutely dreadful.
Pretty easy class. A few announced quizzes, often with bonuses. Four essays with a final exam (essay). Grades a little on the harsh side for in class essays, written essays are usually a letter grade or two higher.
Never clear on what she wants in a paper!!! Must show up for every class no matter what excuse you have! Not very lenient on any assignment, no make ups! I WOULD AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS
Great teacher. Took her for Comp 1 and 2. A LOT of work in her class but if you do it you will get a good grade. I managed to get A. Attendance is a MUST. Has some quizzes from things in the book.
She was a terrible teacher, her feedback was awful and unclear and she barely helped her students. She does not seem to like her students and she is a horrible grader and a four year old is clearer than her.
I love Prof. Hall! She is so funny, and really cares about her students' writing and progress throughout the semester. Active in helping students plan, organize, and execute their assignments. Always tells quiz dates and goes over the material for quizzes and papers. Gave us plenty of time in the computer lab to work on essays. Work for your grade!
Not the hardest, but not the easiest. She is pretty funny though.
I love Professor Hall, she is clear and helpful. Her lectures are not long, she does assign a lot of work but hello this is college. She is not a tough grader, if you pay attention she tells you what she expects and provides detailed feedback so if you mess up it won't happen again. Go to class and pay attention and you will do well.
Although the class is fairly tough, professor Hall is ALWAYS there for students. She offers to critique essays and even is sympathetic if there are personal issues going on. She is very clear about what she expects, and she expects nothing less than what she tells you. If your essay is 1/4 of a page short, you will lose points. I really liked her
Hall is a very nice lady, but her grading criteria is not always clear. She gives quizzes that cover chapters in the book that are a 100 pgs. There are multiple essays that are worth a large part of your grade and she isn't an easy grader. If you're looking for an easy class, this isn't it. She is fair and very helpful if you are willing to ask.
I loved Professor Hall. Such a fun and fun lady. She grades VERY hard, but if you show up and try your best, you will definitely get the grade you think you deserve- whether it be a C B or A. Go to the writing tutor place because she gives bonus points added on to any paper (up to 4)!!! Don't stress in her class because everything works out!
She is awful. Her responses to your papers are unprofessional, rude, outrageous, and disrespectful. Her hybrid class is the worst she shouldnt even be teaching it she will tell us we don't have things in our papers that she never eve mentioned at all to put in our papers. she says the first day of class that we wont make a good grade with her.
Her hybrid class is awful. If I had to base UTSA off of this class, I would say it's the worst school ever. All the assignments given are ridiculous, we are given quizzes with readings that are obnoxiously long and tedious. This is hardly a writing class. I'm usually a well equipped student but this class was hell. Professor Hall was awful.
She is not helpful. Hall does not explain anything well. I have not learned how to become a better writer. I would not recommend this professor.
Take Hall if you want to make a core class unreasonably hard. Take Hall at 7 am if you want to hate yourself all semester. She is unnecessarily rude and makes things really unclear.
She is not a good professor whatsoever. She is not concerned with her students understanding the material and then on top of that she's a hard grader. She is very distant from her students and doesn't try to help when you go see her in office hours. I would recommend taking someone who actually makes time to help the students.
I took her 7am TR class and it appears to be her favourite slot. If you show initiative, you'll put yourself on her good side. She grades tough, but it's beneficial in the long-run. Very eccentric and funny. Expect group work. If you want any easy class, find someone else.
She can be a bit harsh but as long as you show her that your interested in her class and show up everyday, you should not get lower then a B
Where do I start? So I went into her office hours in the beginning of the semester and off the bat she tells me "You're definitely not my favorite student". So you can just imagine how the rest of the semester played out. Are you ready to hate yourself before 10 am? Take this course. Ready for sarcastic comments every morning? Take this course.
Horrible teacher.
Not a good professor at all, fails to explain assignments and when you ask for help or a better explanation she just gives another vague response. Not a single student actually understands what the purpose of this class is other than to annoy everyone. Tries to be funny and usually isn't. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY if you want pass but still tough.
She is a really difficult professor its best to avoid her class completely she grades really hard on papers and don't give you enough time to write them
Hall simply grades off of personal bias, there is nothing positive to say, shes grades tough and offers no explanation. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Do not take Professor Hall. She may be sweet but she is not a good teacher at all. There are so many quizzes and no time to do her papers. She tries to scare her students into doing well which is very stressful. The assignments are not explained very well and I was left utterly confused as to what she wanted.
Professor Hall is a very kind professor. She can be unclear at times in the instructions and is a rather harsh grader at first. She does care for her students, though, and wants them to pass. She gives extra credit generously if you work for it.
If you choose to take the hybrid course, make sure you meet on tuesdays. Mrs. Hall loves to talk and it can be a waste of time because she is very unclear with the instructions for assignments and then grades very harshly. Way too much unnecessary work. Do not recommend. Loves group presentations and is very strict on attendance.
She is not specific on what she is grading her papers on. I have always gotten A's on my papers until I got to her class where I received C's. She is rude, stubborn, and honestly the worst professor I've ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She honestly made no sense when she would explain things, she would really over-complicate everything we did. Due dates are not clear, so it is easy to miss grades.
She gives several assignments, she makes it suggestive when she might give pop quizzes (which happened a lot in my class) which are based on about 30 page homework reading materials. The essays are usually very long and she tends to be a somewhat tough grader but she does give several chances for extra credit which is really easy.
Professor hall is personally my favorite here at UTSA. She is very sarcastic but if you can roll with the punches then everything will be fine. She takes attendance every class but when it comes to work she is a tough grader and doesn't explain things very well. If you talk to her you will definitely understand more. The quizzes are based on book.
Tough grader with very unclear criteria. Felt like I was going through the course with no help. The great thing is that as long as you complete all your work, you wont fail. You have to really work for an A. Great person, average professor.
I took this as a hybrid course (in-class lecture once a week and the rest online) and it was easier than WRC 1013. Prof Hall is funny and very clear when it comes to assignments. Participation is extremely important!!! She gives good feedback on papers. Important group project at the end - practice with peers cause everyone gets the same grade :/
This class is doable, but there is a lot of intense writing. The "writing arguments" textbook was useless to me, I read the whole thing, gleaned absolutely nothing from it, and finished with an A. Don't buy a nice copy. Professor Hall gives you multiple chances to submit assignments for full credit and gives good feedback to help fix it.
She always always always is available to help. She cares about her student's success and will work with them to get things right.
If you are fresh out of high school and lazy - good luck! If you are seeking to improve your writing (English is my third language) - she is perfect for you! Professor Hall is my favorite so far. I took her once, requested to take her again and lucky enough got a slot on the waiting list. The ones who rated her poorly - read my first sentence.
She isnt really good at explaining things and when you ask her for further explanation she repeats the instructions. she makes things way more complicated then it has to be and i would not recommend her.
If I could give this class a 0 I would. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this class. She is super unprofessional, rude, UNORGANIZED, and a tough grader. This was the worst class I have taken online. She was horrible at explaining and the way she set up everything online was really confusing.
I took her over the summer, and honestly she's a very sweet and caring professor. Her assignments are very straightforward and if you keep up you'll get an A, make sure you don't miss your assignments since you can't make them up. She doesn't grade too hard and gives good feedback.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Seriously this is the worst teacher you will ever have. If you do end up taking this class you may notice Ms. Hall has early-onset Alzheimer's. You can follow her instructions word for word and you will still have no idea what you're doing. She will not give you any help. It's sad to see a teacher ruining education like this
Difficult professor, feels like it's hard to please her. Often gives vague guidelines on what she wants and if you can't follow them to the 'T' you'll get docked heavily. Had a team prompt that was about a sentence and left up to heavy interpretation. Is at least able to be reached at odd hours.
If you miss an assignment you cant turn it late. She takes away the link to turn it in. Also due dates are kind of iffy. At the beginning of the year she gives you a syllabus that has all the dates and it comes down to two weekly due dates. Thursday at six am turn it in for feedback. Turn it in monday by six am as the actual due date.
Do not i mean do not take this professor. She is the worse professor i have taken. Super tough grader and extremely hard to understand her assignments. I turned in all the major work and still did not pass her class. Even my biology class was easier than her class. Please do not take her unless you want to stress out all semester.
Professor Hall is unclear with her instructions given, and is disorganized and organized at the same time. If something is not how she exactly likes or wants it, your grade will be affected. I would not recommend taking her class again. It made me feel worse about my writing, than feel like I am learning and gaining knowledge.
DO NOT take any course taught by her. She's rude, condescending, takes forever to grade, doesn't allow late work and her instructions never make sense. She sometimes makes mistakes and instead of owning up to them, she lies and makes it out to be our fault because "we don't pay attention." I've never had a worse professor in all my college years.
OK professor. She gives decent feedback on turned work and projects. However, she NEVER replies to emails, messages, etc. If you have a question regarding your grade or the homework, there's little to no chance she'll respond in a timely manner. The assignments are set up really complicated, so many of my classmates struggled with the coursework
I don't recommend taking this class under this teacher, she doesn't even teach but instead people haver to learn everything on their own, I also feel like the teacher doesn't seem to care if a student is successful, many people in my class have said this too, I know I am not the only one.
I would never take this class again, her instructions are very unclear. She takes a while to grade back sometimes so its hard to correct any assignments (essays) when she doesnt give feedback when we need it.
She was a terrible grader.
She was extremely unclear of her prompts and criteria.
She expects everyone to be perfect writers. The major thing that really made me dislike the professor was the group project at the end of the semester. It was a major grade and each group had about 5 members. I emailed every member of the group and no one responded, so I did the whole thing myself. She failed me because there were no group members.
Nice professor. But her layout is very confusing, and she is not clear on what she is looking for when grading essays. definitely not a fly by class, you have to put in the work. There is one group project at the end of the class that is fairly easy. Her syllabus says no late work, but if you just email her she most likely will let you turn it in
Absolutely terrible professor. I cant fit everything here. I emailed her asking for clarification multiple times, all she said was that I need to read better and then attached a quote about how I needed to work harder with tons of grammar mistakes. She accidently gave the entire class an F on a major grade and simply had not changed it.
Grading and clarity on paperwork has definitely gotten more lax. Easy professor score A's from, unless you're not a strong writer. Takes some time to learn how to produce good work, but once you catch the drift, you'll pass the class with flying colors.
Class is horribly organized and unclear. She cannot type a single sentence without atrocious spelling and grammar mistakes. Assignment instructions contradict her announcements. Links to websites are broken. Put two papers we needed in the discussion board for some reason. Takes up to a full week to respond to students.
The work is not difficult. Trying to translate what she wants from her grammatical errors within assignments, as well as being the most unorganized course I have ever seen in my life, are what make this professor so difficult. She posts assignment information in multiple different places, making you have to search and go back and forth.
This instructor was pretty amazing. Yes, there were many papers (almost one each week/two weeks) but she is willing to help if you ask. She also responds to emails within 24 hours. She provides students with clear grading criteria. You have to work for her class, don't expect an A for the bare minimum. I bought the book but we didn't use it.
The professor is knowledgeable in the subject however, their proficiency in online instruction is lacking. They struggle with the learning platform, neglect to review submissions, and prioritize participation for grading in an online-only course. While personable, their limitations in online teaching may deter some people.
All of her online correspondence and feedback is done with a speech-to-text program, resulting in constant bad grammar and incoherent wording. Most of the teaching material presented was just examples of papers to imitate. Published due dates were inaccurate and never fixed. Expect shifting goalposts and hieroglyphic feedback. Avoid if possible.
If you try in her class, and actually reach out to her a lot for help via zoom, she can be extremely helpful. Just show that you care, she can seem meaner over email then she really is. She is a very kind lady, a little old school but not in a bad way. Put in effort and you'll be just fine. It can be tedious...but not impossible.
this class is not hard. You just have to put in the work. I like how the professor responds to emails quickly and she will always help if you ask. However, there is a group project at the end which is kind of annoying but as long as you have good people in your group you will be fine.
Professor was very helpful and responded to emails fairly quickly. She has grading rubrics to ensure that all the assignments are completed to her standards. However, she is not very tech savvy, she constantly made errors on due dates being set on the wrong day etc. She seems like a great professor in person but don't take her online course.
I took this class online and so many of the essays we had to write were not explained very well leading to a lot of misinterpretation of what exactly to write about. I emailed her multiple times to try and clear up confusion but a lot of the responses were just “it's stated in the module.” I also would get a lot of points taken off for minor errors
I took this class online and so many of the essays we had to write were not explained very well leading to a lot of misinterpretation of what exactly to write about. I emailed her multiple times to try and clear up confusion but a lot of the responses were arrogant, she is supposed make us successful, but I guess she is not devoted to do that.
if you think you are a good writer guess again because to her standards you are TERRIBLE! she is extremely harsh and slow in grading work, never responds to any emails and feedback given is very short and not helpful at all. i took her online class and the workload itself is not too bad. it is a lot of essays and a few tests/quizzes.
She is a great professor but she has so many assignments and some of them are not that easy. I struggled to get a B after so many essays. Never wrote and read this much for any other class.
Professor hall is a hard grader and does have some good feed back, but is not timely and is very cryptic with her feedback. I had to ask for clarification multiple times way and didn't get it until after the next assignment was already due. I unfortunately had to take this class because my English credits wouldn't transfer over. 0/10
Mean, almost always inaccessible, and can't balance the courseload evenly if her life depended on it. Class made me question my sanity. I had to claim to learn something for the final project, but I really didn't. All I learned was how to make her happy in my work, not write in a way I flourish.
worst class and worst teacher I have ever had in my life
Worst ever. So not helpful. Take someone else…anyone else. Her annotated bibliography assignment is a waste of time and so outdated.
She's honestly fine. There's a lot of work, but putting in a good effort will help your grade a lot. The tests have multiple attempts (and aren't that hard) and there's a lot of ways to access her if you need help. The work is tedious (D1 procrastinator btw), but it all helps with building the best final product we can.
This teacher makes frequent typos, gives way too many assignments, does not know how to use Canvas, refuses to give real examples and instructions, gives unclear feedback, asks for unnecessary “self-reviews”, makes group projects in online courses, and focuses only on essay formatting, not substance. Easily the least useful class I have ever taken.
I dont know how she teaches this class and has a degree as a professer with so many typos of her own. She talks to you like youre children. Dont bother reaching out for help, she will get upset for even asking. She is a tough grader for someone who teaches absolutely nothing. Worst professor in my 4 years at UTSA. Do not recommend
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD IN MY ACADEMIC CAREER! She is RUDDDDEEEEEEE
Do not take. Very unclear grading criteria + harsh grader, answers emails quickly but is very cryptic and doesn't provide any help with assignments. Assigned a group project in an online class. Overall a really bad experience. I enjoy writing, but not anymore.
The WORST professor I have ever had. Incredibly rude. Treats us like we're incompetent. I have turned 85% of my assignments and 9/10 times she doesn't take it because she “can't understand” what I wrote and when I do zoom meetings with her she tells me it's okay If I can't understand english or how to write. Excuse me?! I USED to LOVE writing.
Despite this being a writing focused class, spelling and grammatical errors were heavily present in the course materials. The instructions for assignments were difficult to understand, spread out around canvas, and at times contradictory. The professor is not accommodating and not quick to respond to emails asking for clarification.
Very rude professor. Is ambiguous with answers over email and despite teaching a writing heavy class, has a difficult time being clear with her assignment directions. They will be spread in multiple pages all around canvas and full of grammatical errors and contradictions. Worst class I have taken in my time as a student.
She's old to the point where she does not know how to use technology properly and its a heavy class.
Very tough grader that floods you with work and assignments. I'm coming back to this post to address how sloppy of a grader and professor she is. Good luck also TRYING to get her to help you with assignments because she literally does not respond until after you submit something, and then will give you NO help at all. Please avoid her like covid.
INSANE workload for a freshman class, assignment instructions are extremely vague, and grades like her life depends on it. Expect to spend 5-8 hours a week on writing papers for this class.
She never described any assignment or explained what we were supposed to do, then would grade hard, explaining how I didn't follow directions when no directions were given. She was passive-aggressive in her emails and never answered all my questions. I want to report her to the dean. This semester was awful with her as my professor. DO NOT have her
By far one of the WORST professors at UTSA. There were papers that we had to write about every week. Her directions were never clear on assignments. If something does not match how she wants it even with the hard work put in, she gives you a 0 instead of like half credit. If you need the class for credit, find someone else. DO NOT recommend her!
