Nancy is a awesome professor. She teaches with a zeal that is quite refreshing and makes learning the subject matter a true pleasure. This is a great class, particullarly if you are not a science major.

If you pay attention, she's an excellent instructor.

Great and easy to understand

She's an amazing professor!!! She's smart, funny and interesting. I've never cared for science but she made class extremely interesting and made every effort possible for her students to succeed. She's strongly recommended for nontraditional students, who are getting back into school-mode to traditional students just trying to get through.

Great Bio teacher! She always has intesting stories about different things. Her tests are not too hard, as long as you pay attention to her. I didnt take a single note down through the whole course, just listen to her lectures and you will know what to do. She even set time aside to help students individually. Overall great, entertaining prof.

She was very nice, and actually made the class enjoyable for me. Some of the topics were boring (plants) and she recognized that but still was able to make them sort of interesting. All her lectures were relevent, the tests were straight-forward. Knew a lot about what she was lecturing, and had some great stories too.

Dr. Holcroft was so awesome... i learned so many things so easily... its just like if you know whats going on you cant do too bad on the tests... all so, take the lab and the class together... it helps

Dr. Benson is energetic, and is excellent in presentation. She also enjoys pop culture and utilizes it well in her class. If you do not like biology, but have to take it, I would recommend her (of course if you do like Biology, I would still recommend you take her class). Tests are not impossible, but study is necessary and guides are plentiful.

Dr. Holcroft has been a great instuctor, she is very easy to understand, and is very fair in her grading system, I would reccomend taking her classes!

Nancy is quite simply the best teacher I've ever had. I've always been HORRIBLE at Biology but she managed to make me want to learn the subject matter. She will go to any length to help you. Definitely a wonderful teacher. She's young as well, and relates to you on a more personal level. HIGHLY, highly recommended.

Linked Lecture and Lab are a good idea. Great teacher. She understands that there is a lot of material and goes out of her way to help. She posts lecture PDFs and study guides online before each unit, as well as holding a live online study session before each test. Go to class and take good notes and you'll do fine.

She is very hip and entertaining while managing to make you learn and enjoy it. A++++

I just finished up the semester after taking Dr. Holcroft's Principles of Biology class, and I must say she turned my dread of the class into the one thing I looked forward to each time I was on campus. I highly recommend her to ANYONE wanting to take a science class. She is made of win.

By far my favorite teacher. She works really hard to help you as an individual. I'm going to take my next biology class with her too. Dr. Holcroft is more than just an amazing teacher, she's also an awesome friend to all of her students. beware though, don't be lazy, this class is difficult, but SUPER fun.

Without a doubt one of the best teachers I've ever had. BIO 122, with Holcroft is the best way to get the basics if you're going on in Biology. She makes class enjoyable, and treats everyone really well. She seems over-qualified to be teaching at JCCC. Some of the sections aren't the easiest, but she tells you what to study before every test.

One of the BEST teachers I've ever had extremely interesting. She knows everything it seems like. Plus she's a fan of Admiral Ackbar I mean c'mon!

This is the best teacher I have EVER had in any subject. She works so hard to make sure she does a good job explaining things. I'm not at all a science person and I think if I had a teacher like her in high school I may have developed a love for science. Do whatever you can to get her as your teacher! Especially if science is tricky for you.

Great teacher

Nancy is an outstanding professor. As an older student I found her to be professional and helpful. Be sure to do your homework and all the extra credit. She provided lots of EC in a variety of ways. Her lectures are clear and interesting. I would recommend her to any student but particularly to older students returning to school.

I cannot say enough good things about her! Best teacher at JCCC! Make sure to study, study, study! I struggled a lot, but she was very helpful and does want you to succeed. Not only in her class but overall! You will learn amazing things in this class! The people that complain about her don't really try!

Best instructor I have had at JCCC. She is very responsive to emails. Posts grades usually on the same day you turn assignment/exam in. You have to do the study guides to do well on the exam and understand the info. So, yes you do have to study. But she lets you use a notecard for the exams. And a full sheet of paper for final.

I hated science going into college, but i must say Dr.Holcroft made me like it because she made it interesting. If you need a science class: Take Her Class!

She was awesome! Completely left out all the fluffy stuff that doesn't matter like dates & names, and focused on the important bits like how things actually work. I changed my major because of this woman!

Best teacher I have had, I highly recommend anyone who has to take science credits to take her intro to bio class for non majors. Class was amazing, she made the material extremely fun and related so much of her knowledge to real life scenarios... You better be prepared to work for a good grade though.

Nancy is awesome! She's very clear in her lectures and keeps up with the syllabus. Nancy knows her stuff - ask her a question and she'll know the answer right off the bat. Study the notes diligently before the tests. DO NOT start filling in answers in your unit packet the day before the exam - you will regret it. Also, a lot of extra credit.

Best professor I've ever had which is saying a lot, I've taken 160 credit hours. She obviously cares deeply about her students and greatly help any who seek it. She loves sharing her knowledge. The way her class is set up makes so much more sense than the average professor's class. You'll definitely need to study and if you do, you'll do fine.

Prof Holcroft is AMAZING. Would stay after lecturetest times to hang out & chat with us. Knows her stuff about this subject, is super into helping students learn and understand as well, & the extra credit offered was fun, interesting & easy to do. Attendance is a must, but it is one of those classes you wake up excited for.

Enjoyed her teaching style. There was a lot to memorize; but, since there were warm up quizzes at the start for every class, it kept you on your toes with studying so you would be ready for weekly exams as well as every 2-3 week practical exams. There was a paper to write on a field biology research project that was challenging.

One of the best profs I've had at JCCC. The class is kind've a flipped classroom where we take notes outside of class and then we have discussions about the stuff people didn't understand. She's super chill, knows her stuff, and gives a lot of good info during the discussions that will be on the weekly tests. Also gives extra credit!

This was my favorite class by far, not only that semester but in my entire collage career thus far. If you show up and do what is assigned you will walk away with not only a good grade but a better understanding and appreciation for life. This class changed my life and my career path without Dr. Holcroft-Benson's guidance I would not be where I am.

Great professor! She does give weekly tests because in her zoology class, there is a lot of information to obtain. Without the weekly tests, it would be very difficult. However, she does give a crazy amount of extra credit which is great! I would definitely recommend taking her class.

Dr. Holcroft was AMAZING! She truly wants you to understand the information and really makes sure you get it. She dumbs the information down to entry level so that you really understand the material. If you actually try, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A in her class. Tried this class with another teacher and barely had a D, I have an A now

One of my favorite professors and she has a very energetic way of teaching. The course is super fast paced which is a chapter and test every week. Yeah thats a lot of reading but if you fail one test or skip it it wont kill your grade. Making friends is important especially for your lab group. Pick a partner for the water sample project its easier

Dr Holcroft was a great zoology professor. There are tests every week but super easy if you study. Dissections are super fun and there's like no homework, there is also a lot of extra credit opportunities. The only way you cant pass is if you don't show up, SHOW UP. There is a Omaha zoo trip! If you take zoology, choose her!!

Taking Biology 127 with this professor was my best decision yet! She is extremely passionate about her job and the success of her students and it is evident every day! Taking her for General Zoology taught me the value of hard work. This class is involved and will require you to study. If you put in the work you will have no problem getting an A.

Dr. Holcroft Benson is the definition of what a great professor should be. She cares about her students and though her classes have a lot of materials to cover, her lectures were very memorable. The extra credit is also very helpful and innovative. She is very knowledgeable and I always had great conversations with her. Best decision you will make.

I'd just like to say this woman may be the most responisive, helpful, encouraging professor on the plant. She's prompt, organized, and just wants everyone to do well. As far as the class goes if you show up, do the work, maybe add in a little elbow grease it would be hard to leave without an A.

Took General Zoology with Dr. Holcroft, and it was by far the most interesting class I've taken at JCCC. She engages students by going around and asking what questions they have about the current unit, and she lectures about the topics in question. There's a student workbook which just has every topic/important term in it for easy notes. Best prof.

Professor Holcroft Benson knows her stuff. Her classes cover lots of information and there are exams every week. Read the assigned chapters for the week ahead when you finish that weeks exams and you will be golden! It is very evident that she cares very deeply about her students! Put in work and there is NO REASON to not get an "A"

Amazing. So much extra credit. Tests not bad if you did your workbook. Few open note / book tests. Practicals are straight forward. Very helpful and kind. 100% recommend. So much knowledge within her. 1 project/paper. Quizzes are EC.

Dr. Holcroft is amazing. She knows so much information and conveys it in such an easy-to-understand manner. One test every week, and one lab practical every 3 weeks. Tests are not bad at all. The student workbook helps out sooo much with preparing for the tests. Practicals can seem intense, but she lets you use a note-card on them. Great class!!!

She's the best professor I have had at JCCC. BIOL 150 is a very dense course and she does an amazing job giving fun facts and extra info or feedback to make the material entertaining. She's amazingly helpful with lab material and is well organized.

Nancy has by far been the best professor I've taken. She is quick to respond to emails, willing to always help, gives a TON of extra credit opportunities and if you pay attention and ask questions you should pass. With the switch to online she was amazing, always there to help. Would recommend her to anybody, previous bio knowledge or not!

Literally the best teacher I have ever had. If I had her for all of my science classes, I would seriously be blessed. If she has an 8am class, still take it. I cannot stress this enough, she is the best teacher I have had and ever will have in my college career. Workbooks sets you up for an EASY A for her weekly tests. You just have to show up.

Shes super easy to connect with, and very lenient when it comes to personal situations with students.

I had an Online Hybrid with Dr. Benson and she is a really great teacher. She cares about he students actually learning and retaining the information she give out. She has gone above and beyond ANY other professor I've had during this pandemic. It's pretty work load heavy but there are 2 EC assignments every week. I would highly recommend her.

Prof. Benson will go down as one of my favorite teachers of all time. I am limited in the amount of characters in order to describe her class, but all i need to say is that this was a phenomenal class and would gladly take this class again.

Dr. Holcroft is hands down one of the best teacher/professors I have ever had. The class is structured to have weekly tests, however the tests are extremely clear on what is being tested. Dr. Holcroft grades your exams as the class hands them in, and reviews the whole exam afterwards. It really feels like she cares about the students and class.

This class has a really good chance of being boring and difficult. Professor Holcroft realizes these things and takes it into consideration. She gives you extra time if needed, makes sure you understand the material, and she is easy to talk to/ask questions to. She honestly made me love this class. Be aware, though, there is a lot of work involved.

Her lectures are LONG sometimes be prepared to have to listen to her in the morning, but she will give breaks between lectures. She gives a extra credit quiz every day! For reading the chapters she just marks the actual parts you need to read so you can focus reading the stuff that matter of each chapter. You will enjoy her class and labs are easy.

Dr. Holcroft is by far the best professor I have ever worked with. I am honored to know her, she is an inspiration. If you come prepared to class with your reading and notes done to the best of your ability, you can easily clarify anything you struggled with. The subjects are content heavy so you can expect the class to move at a fast pace.

Zoology is hands down the coolest class I've ever taken in my life and the biggest reason is Dr. Holcroft. This class is challenging but worth it if you love science & are eager to learn. Professor Holcroft is that college professor you remember for the rest of your life. By far the most enjoyable course I've taken in college. There is a ton of material but she covers it so methodically it's easy to remember and keep track of. Do yourself a favor and take this course, you won't regret it!

Best professor at JCCC. Be sure to attend class & she will help you as much as she can. She answers questions in an easy to understand manner & will revisit a topic you're stuck on w/out getting frustrated. Her tests are also great, they're in a digestible format. Use the resources she gives you and do the (easy) readings and you're sure to pass!

I love Dr. Holcroft so much! I'm taking another one of her courses, but she's seriously amazing. She even helped me outside of class when I injured my ankle. Every week is the same structure, she tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes. Tailors lectures to what students didn't understand in the reading. You et your test scores same day.

Class is extremely time consuming, but lots of extra credit is handed out and if you put in the work, you will make a good grade. I like how she combines lecture and practical aspects in order to engage with the material better. I would highly recommend taking this class, especially if you need the prereq.
