I have struggled to pass Algebra ever since high school. I just prayed I'd get a C-, but in Ikeda's class, I'm now averaging an A. Sure I did the work, but she is making it easy to understand.
If you do all the homework, get 8's on the daily quiz, do the service learning project, and pass the exams with a C, then you will get a B in the class. She is major chill. Her test are not all that difficult.
she's really sweet and nice. just make sure to do most of the homework. the quizes are pretty easy - just the material you learned from the last class -. do the service project. lots of extrad credit points there.
It's been a few years, but I remember that she made me not hate going to school.
Excellent teacher and very recommended. Great in explaining materials. Tests and quizes are very easy. Made me like math again:)Thanks.
Class is really easy. Easy A as long as you do your daily homework (worth some point and helps you with the test). She gives you a take home mock final exam. The exam usually is the one that she gave the semester before. She give both individual and group quizzes.
great teacher, good lecturer, and easy to understand
Best MATH PROF!! She gives 3 question mini quizzes after a hw assignment is due so you remember what you learn (best method to learn math), she's understanding and will not just follow curriculum for the state, but she teaches material so you can use it in life. Asks very little of you, take her!
If you like lots of homework and quizzes every class, and like handholding take her. If you prefer a prof that grades heavier on exams, and gives more freedom, do not take her. Depends on the type of student you are.
she is very helpful, lots of quizzes though, if you pay a little bit of attention you will easily pass her classes
Teacher is very technical in how she teaches. Doesn't bring things down to earth like other Math teachers at FC. She would be great if you were a Math major, but if you are Business, I would steer clear.
Sad face is right. We are not math majors, so why would we want a teacher who is overly technical? As for you (below this post), there is no need to get immature in what you write.
Math is a technical subject. If you don't want to learn math, take home economics or art. Would you take an engineering class and say "duh, the teacher was too technical". Math is technical, and if a teacher doesn't give you the techniques, then that teacher is not doing a good job. Take art, sounds like that's more you speed dude.
Nice teacher. Very helpful.
Shes great!!! Dont listen to the bad remarks about her because they are not true. I suck at math and I got a B in her class. She even gives extra credit. take her!!!!
She is a good teacher, take her.
2 sections of homework and a quiz every class meeting. lots of tests too but she makes math easy to understand so if you do the work you will have no trouble at all passing the class
besides the constant ringing of the cowbell and her saying fair game in every other sentence i reccomend her class! =)
she is a really good teacher .. well organized and is clear .. i liked her class alot .. fo real ...
I like this teacher alot. She's very clear in her teaching and she's done a great job. I'm normally a B-C Math student, but right now I'm getting an A in her class! I want to take her again for Math 40 next semester.
She is a great teacher for Stats 120. She explains things very well and she is very generous with grading for tests and quizes. There is a quiz every class and homework due every week. There are 5 tests including the final and there is a project due at the end of the semester. So there are a lot of points to earn.
If you have a decent handle on math, she's a good teacher. Doesn't spend an inordinate amount of time explaining. If you attend class and take good notes, don't bother reading the text (it's completely redundant). A little excessive on the homework and final project is a pain in the butt, but otherwise, I'd highly recommend.
She tends to be rather cold and aloof, but Ms. Ikeda is definitely one of the best math instructors I've ever had. It's not too difficult to earn a decent grade if you do your homework, go to class every day, and maintain your lab hours. She also provides very good notes, and the exams and quizzes are fairly basic if you've studied.
Easy if you do the homework and at least read through your notes before each test. I liked that she made sure she knew everyone's name. Nice and gave out cookies on finals day! =)
I learned a lot from Ms. Ikeda, she made sure of it. She is not an easy teacher simply because she teaches a hard subject for most. She will do her best to help you understand the material and expects you to help yourself as well. She expects you to know the material from previous math classes which I think is fair to expect.
great leacher she makes sure you know what you are doing easy tests and quizes just do the homework and show up to class
She is a really good teacher and a nice lady!! There are short quizzes everyday but they are easy and on the homework. She explains things very clearly. Tests aren't to bad. I would recommend taking her!!
Best math prof I've had. Lectures are clear and concise and fun. Has great presence in front of classroom. Funny without trying. Nice and friendly too. Approachable. Homework is not turned in. Quizzes and exams are reasonable. Really tries to make the material understandable. Knows the material very well herself. Organized and knows everyone's name
This teacher is way too sarcastic when teaching, She delivers her lectures like a joke. She will explain how to do a problem but leave out important steps because she believes you should already know what to do. I would not recommend taking this teacher if you have a full schedule because she will frustrate and confuse the hell out of you.
Mrs. Ikeda is the best math teacher I ever had. I always asked her for help and she would happily help. There is no one better than her at teacher math. I highly recommend her. The only thing is you have to put your part and she will definetily help you.
One of my favorite math professors. One part that is unique to math classes is that the students have to constantly practice and develop new ideas for problems. If you do that then this class should be a breeze. Ikeda's lectures are, in my opinion, very clear and the notes you take in class are tremendously helpful. I learned a lot from her class.
Great Teacher, always willing to go over questions and explain them completely. There are quizzes every class meeting so you need to keep up with the material and homework is assigned, but not turned. Two quizzes dropped as well as lowest exam grade. Take her.
Not the prof you want to take if your doing it for the bus. major req. Way too much stress if your really not in it to learn the math
All I know is that she was really mean to me. {{-_-}}
Ive taken business Calc at CSUF and she is the best college Math teacher I've ever had. I struggled with math and she offered help. Go to every class, quiz, then notes.Drops one test and two quizes. Review quiz before every test that compares to actuall test. Take this class.
not an easy professor. had to work a lot to receive a passing grade. if you study day and night you might end up a B , but she is not easy at grading exams and quizzes. take this class if u have no other choice period
This teacher is NOT EASY!!!!! You would have to study 23 hours out of 24 hours just to hardly get a B in the class. Do not take her if you aren't that interested in math.
I took the online class. This teacher gives out homework only to amuse herself, she could cut down the homework and students would still understand fine. The group work is unorganized, people don't even do it so others suffer. When considering this class, find a different teacher.
She was the hardest teacher i've taken. She gives quizzes every single class, and way too much hw. She's very strict and sarcastic. I'm sarcastic but hers is a whole diff level. (bad thing) Don't take her unless you HAVE to. I'd even wait a semester if she was the only teacher with this class. She was tough
Nancy is Great! She is extremely organized and her lectures are crystal clear. She gives you quizzes once a week but hey, it makes you stay on top of the material. Nancy is very helpful and will make sure everyone understands the material before moving on. Uses MyMathlab no need for text, gives out cookies last day of class! Take her.
This is the second time i took this course and finally was able to pass with her class. She was hard and maybe that's what helped me stay on top of things. She's very organized with notebooks. We took lots of notes that really helped. Quizzes once a week. She drops lowest exam grade, and two lowest quizzes. I liked her.
Nancy Ikeda is an amazing teacher! Hw was assigned and due on MML. Quizes every week and graded notes. Total 4 tests, dropped lowest. Love her style of teaching, pretty much have to take notes and pay attention in class and you will EARN a good grade. Great teacher, awesome lady. Hopefully will take her for trig and calc!
Take her, she's great! Very funny and very cute! Lectures are clearly explained and given in perfect note-taking form. Homework is assigned but never collected. Quiz every class which is easy if you've done your homework. Lowest 2 quiz scores dropped and lowest exam score dropped. Just show up and NEVER use your cell phone in class!
DONT TAKE HER CLASS! she grades hard, tests & quizzes r confusing. will knock off points for the dumbest things. im studying 2 hrs a day for this class and BARELY have a B- and im usually really good @ math. if her class was the only one wait a semester and take it with another teacher. she expects u to remember everything from previous math levels
she's great..if u attend class daily, take note and do homework,,so test and quizzes are not quite hard..she's cute :))
Loved her! she gives amazing lectures, she is always clear and definitely makes you learn.
She elaborates the lessons very clearly. Always wants her students to succeed. She's super nice and one of the best Math classes I have ever been in. The best part about her class is that she doesn't collect homework.
Really hard class if you're not already good at math. She teaches very well. She uses absolutely every minute of class. One thing that bothered me is that there's a quiz every class, and she marks down if you miss a class. So if you miss a day you will be marked down for attendance and a quiz grade. Not sure why you have to both
Great teacher. Don't miss class, and make sure to do the online homework and all will be well!
There's a quiz every class meeting, based on the lesson(s) learned in the previous class. They're not that hard, you even get a point for trying the problems and for simply writing your name. I've NEVER done any homework assignment (they're not turned in)and have done very little studying and I still have a B-. If i studied, it'd be an easy A. easy
I took Math 40 (Hybrid) and it turned out to be an OK class. We have a quiz every class meeting. She grades partical credit if you do 70% or better on homework. She will drop the lowet exam score but not the final. Overall great teacher, I recommend.
She's really cool, really helpful, and really fun! + she has a really chill SI leader!
pretty good teacher. the class is easy almost all material you shouldve learned in HS. it can get a little boring at times but over all really nice teacher and she is very helpful and walks us through each lesson and makes it clear. homework is online but it sooooooo easy never too much hw and you always have at least a week to do it. take her
I'm pretty sure Prof. Ikeda is the best prof on campus for MATH130. She is crystal clear in her speech and knows her subject well. Her lectures are easy to understand. No H/W, but quizzes everyday so you'd better do it anyway. She is strict.(not mean, though she is so sweet.) just don't text in class or be obnoxious. highly recommended, take her!
Very good teacher, quizzes every day but she goes over the material before hand. Explains material very well. Highly recommend. Drops 1 test and 2 quizzes. No extra credit but she is AWESOME.
Intermediate Algebra is hard no matter what prof you take. I'm scared of math but with Ms. Ikeda I passed. I took a hybrid class. Met once a week, lectures online and h.w. online, quiz once a week, 4 tests. Lots of hw but that is what helps you pass, all those points! Do the Hw, class notes, take home quizzes. All that is what will pass you!
If you don't have your algebra mastered this class will be a miserable experience for you, which the professor makes clear at the beginning of the semester. Grade is based on 4 exams and many quizzes, with lowest exam and two quizzes dropped. There was an SI leader for my class and it was very helpful, highly recommended if you are struggling.
Professor Ikeda is really cool! Not an easy A but she is an AMAZING professor and a great lecturer. She is really clear about what she wants, and what is due. Simple quiz every day, hard exams. Hw doesn't count but do it it helps. I feel prepared for Calc 150A. Only used my textbook at home so you can find it online and save $.
Quizzes everyday, drops 2 quizzes and drops worst test overall decent class but can be rough if you aren't so great at trig but can be passed easily with effort
Only three exams each one 13% of your grade, gives quizzes every lecture, expects you to have everything memorized, everything and anything is free game on tests and quizzes personally wouldn't ever take again!
Ridiculous professor with ridiculous workload amount for the students, make sure you have the time for this class
Not an easy A but is always willing to help students understand material. Asks a lot of students. Lots of memorization and HW. Quizzes every day and only drops lowest 2. only 3 exams and one final. HW is assigned but never collected. Always goes over HW problems. She moves fast.
Crazy workload & has ridiculous expectations from students. Don't take her unless this is the only class you're taking! Goes through 2-3 sections a day & a quiz every lecture!
Has high expectations, takes more time to put students down rather than trying to help them understand their questions. Quiz every lecture, 3 exams and final is 30% of you're entire grade. If you have the motivation and time then take her otherwise best of luck!
Her jokes get old really quick, she gives a quiz every lecture, and get ready to being able to recall lessons from geometry and algebra because she expects that you remember them. She goes through 2-3 sections every lecture and final is 30% of you're entire grade.
Her class is exhausting. Covers 2-3 sections per class and you're quizzed on it 2 days later. homework is long and assigned every class but never collected or graded. Expects you to memorize a lot and even remember everything from previous math classes. 3 exams and a final. Final was worth 30% of our grade. Class examples nothing like the homework
Fast paced class, but great teacher. Finally learned my trigonometry thanks to Ikeda. Quizzes everyday, but it's worth it because it helps boost your grade up , especially if you're at borderline. Long homework is expected, but helps a lot if you do it. Drops 2 quizzes.
She's definitely a tough one. Quiz every class, 3 tests and 1 final (cumulative). Tests are 40% and final is 30%. You definitely need to know your algebra and be prepared to memorize many formulas, she knows how to teach and will, in her own way, help you if you don't understand something. She drops the lowest 2 quizzes and hw is never collected.
1. Great teacher 2. High expectations and tough 3. Hard exam, all memory no note cards for any test 4. Quiz everyday. 5. Tries to trick you so see if your paying attention to what you're doing. 6. No homework graded. 7. Recommend if progressing into higher level math. 8. Picky picky picky grader. 9. Expectations are laid out.
Hard but great. Would take her class again
Great professor and A LOT of studying. If you do not practice your derivatives, you'll be screwed on the exams. Quizzes every single class and exam after every chapter. If you are a lazy person, this class may not be for you. Drops the lowest two quizzes at the end. Good luck!!
Class is hard but great professor. If you get below a C on the final, she won't pass you regardless your calculation after the final.
Best professor ever. Knows her subject really well. I'd only recommend this class to those that are math majors because she is a tough grader and makes sure you understand it.
Professor Ikeda was a little intimidating at first, but she is a very effective teacher. If you do the homework she assigns, and you make sure you're doing well on the daily quizzes, she really sets you up to succeed. I would definitely recommend Ikeda if you actually want to learn and improve, not just get an easy A.
There's no way you can fail if you take notes, do the (optional) hw, and review your vocab. She literally hands you an A, allowing you to use cheat sheets, etc. If you can't pass this class with her, you know you're slacking off or not trying at all. She can be a little snarky, but she's helpful and accessible. Tests are fair/not difficult at all.
My favorite professor on campus! Just take the class serious and don't slack off. She is so funny and makes class fun. I have plenty of respect for her and the way she is so passionate about her lectures. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU PLAN TO BE LAZY!!!!
I love love love love love Nancy!! Her lectures are super clear and makes its super easy to learn! There are pop quizzes every class but theyre pretty easy and as long as you do the homework you should ace them. Homework isnt mandatory but if you dont do it its like youre shooting yourself in the foot. I would take Nancys class 10 times!
Lectures are clear and easy to follow. Very helpful teacher who answers questions and has an SI instructor for those who need extra help learning. Quizzes are daily but based off understanding of concepts, not the answers. Tests are tough but are more than manageable if you go over the review sheets, do homework (assigned daily), and attend SI.
Real nice lady, took her for Calculus, she explains everything clearly and is willing to answer questions in and out of class. Best thing is she does not collect homework. There are quizzes everyday so skipping class is not a good idea there are 4 tests, take them seriously with no homework one bad test could ruin your grade.
One of the best math professors. Shes generous with partial credit, lots of quizzes for extra points, and lots of assignments for partial points. If you do the work/understand the material, youre set. Calculus is a hard class, but I thought she was extremely clear and answered questions very well.
She is a nice person but if I talk about class, you really have to put a lot of work to pass. You will have quiz each and everyday. she will not assign homework but will assign you with other assignments which are a lot.
Ikeda was the best math professor I've ever had. Quiz everyday but everything is straight forward and she does NOT trick you, ever. Her lectures are clear and full of examples, and she answers questions helpfully so that you can understand the concepts. I wish she was teaching Calc 2. HMWK not collected but PLEASE!! Do it! It's what will get u an A
Alright so this is Calculus so of course it's not easy. But, she is a wonderful teacher! I didn't go to any of the SIs but that's because I had another class during that time slot. I would definitely recommend doing the homework even though it's not graded. Study EVERY DAY for the quizzes you'll have every day (minus exam days). Participate!!!
Professor Ikeda is great! She can be intimidating at first but Don' t be scared to ask her questions. She gives a take home quiz before every exam and she's very specific about what is on her test. She is also super big on knowing Algebra! She's a very good professor and she cares about students learning the material not just passing.
Seemed brash 1st week but was actually very nice and caring. Quiz every day. Very accessible outside of class. Wants a lot of class interaction which can eat into the lecture time. Can spend too much time on homework review rather than lecture. Wants you to understand the material. If you don't pass, it's your fault. No extra credit. Good teacher.
First off dont miss a class as there are quizzes daily, she only drops 2. Tests are similar to notes, but some questions are really difficult. Usually the answer you get makes no sense. No test drop. If you do not get a 70% on the final she will not pass you regardless of your grade. HW is not for points. So its up to you to do it if needed.
I have taken Prof Ikeda for two math classes now. I feel like she genuinely wants her students to do well. However, she doesn't hand out easy grades. You have to work for your grade in her class but she supports you and gives you every opportunity to do well.
Ikeda lays out a clear foundation of what to expect through out the semester and sticks to that. Just study for the daily quizzes and DO THE HOMEWORK. Ask questions during the lecture! you will have to work for your grade but she gives you all the tools to do that. also shes so stinkin cute and funny! really enjoyed this class.
Has a nice personality, and DOES want her students to do well, but she gives a ridiculous amount of work. She recommends 12 hours at the very least per week for studying... 12 HOURS - a full-time student's workload for one class! 5-7 hw assignments, ch readings, 3 quizzes, a journal entry, AND a discussion board EVERY WEEK. Too much. Over the top.
Teaches materials well, but can be abrasive if you don't understand something. Also has really dry sense of humour, so brace for that.
Professor Ikeda is the BEST math professor I have ever taken. Quizzes every day, 3 exams, and 1 final. She is a VERY fair grader and she really wants all her students to get an A in the class. All quiz and test questions are taken from the book so if you can do all of them then you will definitely get a 100% on the exams and quizzes. TAKE HER!!!!!!
This may be the only Calculus Professor who makes the students write vocab, & I am not complaining. Only complaint is everyday quizzes, Ikeda can be picky sometimes when it comes to exams. I hate remote instruction, it's good for some not for others. I would take Ikeda again if she teaches 152_F.
I took her when the COVID lock down happened half way through the semester. Ikeda is probably your best choice for calc 1 personally. her online lectures are fantastic. The only problem is that her tests are insanely hard. quizzes are every class which kinda sucks. She defiantly gives you the resources to pass at the very least.
She is the best professor I'd ever seen. she cares about students and she is sooooooo nice! if your major is the stem, then definitely you have to take her class. she explains the basic concept for calculus 1 and you have to understand the meaning of math terms. you will learn a lot!!!!
Mrs. Ikeda is the absolute worse I cried everyday in her class. Her lectures are so hard to follow, does not respond quickly to emails. I wish I had never taken this class. Currently I am in pain because of the emotional toll this class took on me.
You really have to work for your grade in this class. She is a good teacher but you have to make sure you are asking questions or else you will get lost. My best advice is to just stay up to date with all of the assignments, watch the lectures and attend all the zoom meetings. Only take this class if you are willing to put a lot of effort into it.
Very kind and wants her students to succeed. Strict with deadlines. Tons of homework, but it's all meant to reinforce the material and prepare you for the quizzes/exams. If you fall behind you're gonna be completely lost so keep a schedule and work ahead of it if you can. If you manage your time well it's a hard but fair class.
LOVED THIS PROFESSOR!!! I loved Prof. Ikeda's online lectures, very informative and easy to follow. Prof. Ikeda really breaks it down for you. Do the homework and Labs assigned! It's easy to fall behind so just do your homework. Also, Prof. Ikeda is very good on giving you feedback on how to do a problem and is encouraging. Thank you, Prof. Ikeda!
Nancy is a very nice professor. You get homework (3 a week), discussion board and labs. I found labs to be helpful and they aren't too time consuming. Lecture vids are not very long, you will definitely spend majority of your time on homework and getting help from mathlab or smart thinking tutors. The Canvas is very organized.
I liked professor Ikeda, but there are so many assignments throughout the week. Each week, there are 3 hw assignments, 3 lecture checks, 1 quiz, 1 lab, 1 discussion. This is the most work any professor has assigned personally. I received an A, but it was not easy and very time consuming over the week. It was fair and manageable but better options.
Picks the most budget textbook and website for HW which saved my wallet by a ton. The topics aren't as hard despite being someone not good at math. She's also really caring and will step in to help & provides reference sheets, but I wish she also had one for TI-84 because there's a lot of functions to use for problem-solving.
This class was intense with a quiz every day on the material learned the day before. We had exams every few chapters as well as a midterm and final. Also, we had one or two assignments due the night before learning the lesson, so expect to teach yourself. But, she was very helpful when asking questions and understanding of absences. Just reach out!
Professor Ikeda is great. She wants you to succeed and helps you out. She assigns a lot of homework, so you have to stay on top of it. Plus, there is a quiz every day, but it is easy and will normally review before taking it. She lectures a lot but are clear and concise. There are 3 exams and 1 cumulative final. If you work hard, you will do great.
Everything is due on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. There are late passes, I believe 100, to be used on homework or quizzes. Exams are tougher as the semester goes on. There is some extra credit, if you want an A, then do the extra credit and lecture checks on time. Lectures are clear and she is good teacher.
Professor Ikeda's MATH120 class is packed with work, but her clear lectures and caring support make it manageable. Utilize Unstuck study alongside the textbook to stay on top of the material.
Professor I
Professor Ikeda is an excellent teacher and a wonderful person. She will explain everything concisely and is always trying to help students really understand the content. I got a C in this class due to my own negligence, but Professor Ikeda gave me the guidance to pass the class when I needed it most. I strongly encourage you to take her class!
Chill teacher. i did online async. she basically walks you through the lab. lots of assignments easy to fall behind. late work 20% penalty. lost of discussion posts. works with you through technical difficualties. you can tell she cares. nice person overall too
