very nice prof. exams are somwhat hard even if you study.
OMG best teacher ever! Tests r easy if you study. Papers are only moderatley difficult. She's 1 of those profs that WANTS u to get an A. just go to class, she gives away answers for tests and stuff u need 2 know thats not in book. doesn't take attend, but knows who comes. if u did ok in high school gov class you'll b fine. She's totally nice & cool
Professor Jimeno is a big sweetheart. I definitely recommend her. She is one of my favorite professors. You can tell that she cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
i love her, she cares for her students. Shes the best pro ever~ Her tests are somewhat difficult thou
This teacher is the best one I've had in this subject. She's very clear on what she teaches and very willing to help those who come to her. Her assignments are clear and with lots of support materials. If you goto class and do the readings you'll easily get an A.
I had no interest in the class whatsoever coming into it, but I really did enjoy the class. She is so enthusiastic about the subject which makes every topic extremely interesting. She knows so much about the subject and it shows. She was extremely helpful, her tests were easy if you studied, and she made it fun to learn.
She is an easy teacher and very helpful. Makes sure that you get the subject before she moves on, and one of the best teachers in school. Loved her class, she never had a boring moment.
Mrs. Jimeno is the best damn teacher I've ever had. She's not afraid to say what's on her mind or how she feels about a particular issue. Simply put, she's BAD ASS!
She is super cool! She has alot of great things to teach and share. she is super caring and for whoever said her tests are hard, bunch of crap. Just study the study-guides and totally get an A. She goes really into depth with things. I recommend her class, even though she says she is one of the harder profs out there.
She is tite... very helpful. enthusiastic with topic--makes it very interesting. I got a B but its an easy A... I never went to class, but she has so many extra credit opportunities.... shes is sooo COOL... you MUST TAKE HER
She is a fantastic teacher! She loved it when i brought my little brother into class, and really encouraged me!
very knowledgable and motivated teacher. stern and fiesty, not too much, but enough to motivate you to do well.
SHE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVERRRRR!!!!! she is very caring and encourage you to do well. I have never gotten a professor that cares about her student so much!! she is awesome. Take her class and you won't be disappointed!
She is very opinionated, but a great teacher. She makes you think about politics and the way she teaches is very interactive and fun. 3 tests, and she gives study guides. 1 5pg paper on growth of hometown. Great class, would recommend.
She is such a ****. She has too much of an opinion and if yours doesnt match hers she makes you feel like you're WRONG and she is the only one whos right. SHe is not helpful and her study guides are useles.. she doesnt even give one for the final exam and if u ask her she yells at you what the hell?
this woman is a genius! she is funny, and an excellent teacher. she is very helpful too, she even lets you call her the night before exams. she really gets you interested in posc and tries to get you to become an active citizen. oh and you have to listen to 89.3 fm and you have to always know what is going on in your local news.
Great teacher. She made me really enjoy poli sci. Tests were rather easy; I got A's on all her tests and all i did was do the study guide. Go to class. Everything on the test is from her lectures. I never read the book, except to get definitions.
Her tests aren't hard BUT shes a horrible teacher. She compares half of what she teaches to her own past and present. At one point in time she talked about how she was dirt poor and could barely raise her own daughter.Big deal. Win the class over by using sympathy? My government teacher in high school was a better teacher than her.
overall easy teacher. my friend only showed up for like 4 classes max and he has an A in the class so far...i'm not interested in the subject but for those of u who are-she is quite a great teacher...good sense of humor, helps out a lot...TONS of extra credit oppurtunities!recommend-but it's a whatever class if u are not into politics
Awesome professor. Easy if you pay attention, but hard if you don't. Sit in the front of the class and make sure she knows your name.. it helps a lot! Don't use the book a lot, but is really cool..
I loved her class! I already knew i wanted to be a poli sci major and she only made me more sure. She makes government interesting and teaches it so that you can apply it in the real world. The way she teaches allows you to actually learn the material in a way where you can apply to everyday life. Take her class!!!
She makes you study hard but if you come to class and write good paper you can expect an A.
shes great
Really fun class! She is really interesting...definitely take this class!
She is simply the BEST professor anyone could ask for. She is so open to her students and uses real life examples while teaching. She is so hilarious! I love her. Her exams are not even difficult and she hardly ever assigns homework. If you want an easy class without having to do alot of work, this is ur professor. The name is Nancy Jimeno!!!
this professor is amazing...i loved her class ...at first i did not know anything of our government...by the end of this class i can actually say i learned a lot...u shud definitely take her!
Great teacher...made the subject interesting. Didn't force students to be in class, but her lectures are the test. Gave lots of extra credit considering it is a college course. Didn't use it and got a B. Recommended for all students wanting to take political science...I believe she transferred to CSU Long Beach
her class is informative. her tests are based on whats she says in class, so show up.
Great professor. I learned so much about the political history of California, I now consider myself a well informed Californian after taking her class. Her lectures were always informative and entertaining and her unconventional style of teaching is excellent. Make sure you take good notes and come to class.
If you actually feel like learning something, Jimeno is for you. She keeps most of her lectures interesting an informative. Definitely attend classes, because what she says in class is more important than what you read in the assigned books (though on tests you must know both). She's easily one of the top 3 best teachers I've ever had.
One of the best teachers I have ever had, she is smart and down to earth...you will learn alot in her class, and you will use it too! Love her when she plays devils advocate. Plan on going to class, doing the reading and participating--it's not an easy class (or the hardest either) but it's completely worth it :)
She is so awesome! She teats students as adults; she won't force her opinion on you, but she definitely says what she thinks. You learn a lot from her. Go to class and take notes! Her tests are too difficult, but they're not easy A's either. You might be surprised to learn some different perspectives. :)
Worst teacher I've ever dealt with. She is an overly opinionative, menapausal witch with a sob story that makes you dislike her even more. Her class is hard, especially if you have a 3 hour lecture class. She strives herself on making hard tests. Do not take her. Find somone else who will give you an easy A and will not waste your time.
Prof. Jimeno is an interesting lady. Her class gives you a good glimpse into California history and she know a lot about politics by first-hand experience. She's a little unorthodox, but I enjoyed this class for the most part.
Take this class if you want to learn something you can use the rest of your life! Very knowledgeable about California (especially local) politics. Do the readings, class participation is part of your grade and the exams are based on the readings. Tests are multiple choice, short answer, and a short essay on the midterm. Loved this class!!!
Knows what she is talking about and has a passion for politics..but tends to cross boundries with what she says. If you get offended easily don't take her. Tests were pretty easy. A lot of reading
Wonderful person. Really knows her stuff. Do your readings! Group presentation and a 5-7 pg paper on your topic. Online discussion. Midterm and final: MC, short answer, and short essay. Review session was a bust: most of it wasn't on the exam when she said it would be but other stuff was. Throws in random questions about things she said in passing.
Took her class for Polisc100 really easy just a midterm final and a project. Good teacher has some interesting views but pretty simple straight forward class.
She is the worst teacher. She interrupts group projects to tell the presenters they are wrong. She is incredibly rude and such a name dropper. First day of class she went on a rant about "a fat girl" she had in one of her classes. And she is shove it down your throat pro-life.
Worst teacher ever. Very opinionated and her lectures are unorganized. She repeats her life stories daily and makes you feel dumb if you don't know something. Often rants about how nobody knows anything anymore and this generation only focuses on "Beyonce's new album". She does know her material, but I wouldn't recommend her.
She was great! I highly recommend her! I can honestly say she cares about her students. No homework. She has you read articles throughout the semester and throws some questions from them on the test. She gives you some answers to the tests but most of the information on the test are from lectures. Midterm, term paper, and final make up your grade.
Dr. Jimeno is a great professor! She really has a passion for Political Science. I made sure to take this class right around election season so it would be really informative. Even though I dont agree with all of her views (politically), she is a great professor. Make sure to always attend lecture, as important announcements are made. Easy grader!
I would suggest you take her for an easy A if you're in the First Year Experience program. She does share a lot about her life story which can get off topic. There is a lot of reading, but since she had an accident this semester she didn't assign pop quizzes, only papers. This was her first semester teaching UNIV100 so her style may change.
She was kind of rude and intimidating the first day of class. As a Freshman, I came out of class in complete fear for the rest of the semester. She's tough in lecture and likes people to voice their opinions and participate. She was very understanding when I got sick and needed an extension on my paper. Overall, I learned a lot from her.
Her lectures are all over the place but an understanding professor if you speak to her and participate she will help you with your grade DO study guide if you want to pass ask questions about anything involving the government and she'll answer you with no bs kinda opinionated but she has experience don't buy book WSJ just google the texts or share
Her lectures are ussually all over the place but her midterm/quiz are based on pretty much everything that goes on inside the classroom... So GO to class. She does enjoy her job and you will like her if your the type that will go to class everyday (on-time) and pay attention. Don't buy book if you go to class
Dr. Jimeno is super hilarious and is not afraid to say whats on her mind. However it is crucial that you show up to every class meeting because her lectures consist of her speaking and writing random words on the board. According to her "if you show up to every class then the test should be easy." Would not recommend this class to freshmen.
Wow this professor is the worst. Do not take at all costs. Trust me this professor gives essays without rubrics and expects them done in 4 days. Extremely hard grader with no instructions before hand. Lectures are random everyday. Makes students feel dumb and hard to find how every lecture connects. Class is hard and challenging . Avoid!!!!!!!
She's absolutely great and passionate about what she does. Extremely relatable. She's very broad when she lectures. Jimeno doesn't provide powerpoints, but make sure to write down what is on the board and what you gather from it. I love Political Science, but this difficult if you don't understand the concepts. I enjoyed this class very much.
Dr. Jimeno exemplifies an amazing teacher and I definitely would recommend you take her class. She is funny, caring, and tells it like it is. She made political science interesting. 2 multiple choice exams - easy, city council meeting paper - easy, and final research essay - with effort it should be simple. Take her, she really is a great teacher.
Will take many opportunities to shove her agenda down your throat, throw undignified jabs at her political adversaries, and label students as stupid or too sensitive for not agreeing with her. Maintains a very grim environment for the classroom where students are either too intimidated or ticked-off to speak up. Displays a very poor attitude.
Pros: genuinely cares about her students, stresses importance of critical thinking Cons: opinionated to a fault, often mocks people with different political views than hers, makes many fallacious strawman arguments, brings to class an undignified holier-than-thou aura, very one dimensional, defensive, self-pitiful, lacks humility
If you want respect, no getting treated like military boot camp, don't take this instructor! She will not respect you and will not be considerate of your work! It is almost impossible to get free time outside of class if you take her!
Professor Jimeno was very intimidating at first, but she ended up being one of my favorite professors I've had at CSUF. She truly wants you to learn and do well. Test were not difficult at all, as long and you show up to class you will do well on them, SO SHOW UP AND PAY ATTENTION. The paper was super easy, but don't wait until the last minute.
Beware, Freshman! This professor didn't start the lecture until 15 before class ended due to her rambling about unimportant issues, like the purple house in Santa Cruz. It's very book heavy, so if you're not a big reader, you will fail. She makes you attend a city council meeting, You'll have to write a two-page paper on it. Do not recommend.
Easier grader than other reviews say. She says that she grades upon what the thinks that the student can accomplish, and expects the best from them. My classmates are afraid of talking to her, but she tries her best to facilitate open exchange. She's just very disagreeable (see Big Five Personality Traits for definition).
Professor Jimeno is suuuper opinionated and is not afraid to tell you when she thinks you're wrong. Can be offensive if you don't have thick skin. Other than that though, this is a very easy class with very little work done outside of class and pretty simple exams if you have a basic understanding of US government.
I personally did not like going to POSC 100 due to her. She is super opinionated and it does not create a good environment for learning. I skipped class on multiple occasions just to read the book on my own.
Guys, just have a sense of humor. She's absolutely hilarious. If you are an incredibly sensitive person, just do yourself a favor and don't take her. However, you're missing out on an amazing well-knowledgeable professor. If you have an attitude and are disrespectful, she'll flat out call you out. It's pretty hilarious.
Took her class in spring '18. She does not give lots of homework, but you do have to read the book, especially the parts that she outlines/tells you to pay attention to. She offers a few extra credit opportunities. Attendance to a city council meeting is mandatory and you have to write a paper about it. She gave 3 exams overall.
Her lectures make no sense. Rarely uses a powerpoint and when she does they are not organized. Goes off on random tangents and writes random words down on the board without any insight/explanation. Hard to take notes because it's hard to tell what info is important. Terrible at explaining things and criticizes students for not knowing something.
Her lecture is out of order and you don't know what's on the midterms and final. It's like self-study but YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO STUDY. I believe political science can be fun, but not with this teacher. My gpa went down because of her and I STUDY. What? That's right, there is no point.
She's really not bad as many reviews make her seem I honestly really enjoyed this class. Our grade consisted of two exams, a comulative exam, and a mandatory public meeting you must attend and write a two page paper on. She gave out study guides for every exam even for the final. Prof. Jimenez also offered an extra credit opt.
At first I thought she was very mean but its really just her sarcasm. Shes very caring and definitely taught me about my rights. Make sure to show up to class or you wont pass. Shes very straight forward and blunt but dont take it too hard. She really knows her material in what shes teaching.
Prof Jimeno is super generous and it amazes me how much she knows. I hope to have that much knowledge one day and be as insightful as her. She actually relates to her students and cares. Teaches very thoroughly. The tests can get hard at times and study nights are more on the medium side, just make sure you know that your government can kill you (:
Must attend class since she does not post lectures. There is 1 midterm, 1 paper, and 1 final. Participation is encouraged but you grade it yourself later on. Need the textbooks if you don't go to class. She is a bit harsh and straightforward but she knows a lot and you learn new things. She really wants to teach students about government.
Professor JImeno is straightforward about her opinions. Overall, she's not the most approachable as she is a bit judgmental. The one time I got the courage to see her before class I went back to my seat trying to hold my tears. On another note, you need to attend class as the tests are lecture heavy and lectures are not posted online. Study!
She's funny sometimes, but if not, She's mean, rude, racist, and will force her beliefs into you and call you dumb if you don't agree with her. The class is based on 3 tests and a homework assignment, no room for improvement if you fail. Don't think that she will save you because she gives you her phone #. Don't take this lady, take someone else.
She rants about her life and her opinions for about the first 30-40 minutes of lecture. She encourages participation but she'll get passive aggressive if your views don't line up with hers. Very scattered, so you should read the book. Somewhat easy class if you keep up with key terms. 1 midterm, 1 quiz, a paper, & the final.
It is clear Professor Jimeno is very passionate about what she is teaching but she loves to rant about her life which makes it very difficult to actually learn the material. There is 1 midterm, 1 quiz, 1 paper, and 1 final. It's honestly not that hard of a class if you just pay attention to her lectures. Her study guides are super helpful though.
I took this class as a freshman. Honestly, if you show up to the lectures and write good notes, the tests become really easy. She's really good at teaching virtually and gives great lectures. But beware she's really passionate about her political views, so be prepared to get your views challenged. Overall, one of the best professors I have taken.
Extremely rude and domineering. Will try to mock and ridicule "stupid" questions. Thinks shes way too smart for everybody. Will try every class to try to push her political agenda. Thinks a general education 3 unit class should be more difficult than my other graduate level engineering courses.
Ive never had a professor so bad that I felt the need to come write on here about them until I had Professor Jimeno. She says some AWFUL things that literally leave me sitting with my mouth wide open. For notes, she holds up a white piece of paper with writing on it that we can barely read. I would not recommend her to anyone.
She's awful, she says horrible things & if you debate back with her she gets all kinds of upset. She thinks she's smarter than everyone else and clearly has some sort of superiority complex. She's disrespectful, racist, condescending, and all around just a b*tch. She called Native Americans "savages" & said slavery was okay because we "saved them".
Worst professor I ever had. She makes remarks during class that are just absurd. We would try to voice our opinion and she straight up mock us for it, if you don't agree with her she will get defensive about it. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
This class was weird and confusing. Very little was talked about the actual assignments and even then they weren't very well explained. I would recommend taking this with a different professor. She doesn't seem to have a lot of respect for students and definitely isn't flexible with schedules, especially with being online.
Was nervous to see how classes would go due to COVID-19 restrictions and the semester being completely online. She was receptive to the fact that the semester was hard for us and understood being online all day sucks. Tests were super straight forward all you have to do is show up to lectures. No homework, one 3-4 page paper, and a couple quizzes.
Does not give any assignments literally just 3 tests and a quiz. She has one paper that we have to write, basically if you aren't good at tests do not take the class. She is very passionate on her political views so if you're going to disagree make sure you have facts to back you because she will attack you.
Lots of people had strong opinions on topics especially since it was during the 2020 election. She lectures the majority of the class and doesn't have power points until the second half of the semester. But it's easy to follow and provides study guides. It's very straight forward if you follow the class. She makes it mandatory for cameras on.
She is very knowlegable, but has a way of putting people down if they don't catch on easily. She makes a lot of assumptions that people already know things about the class and then when people ask she says "oh you didn't learn that in high school?" She knows what she is doing, but can be annoying.
I really liked taking Dr. Jimeno's class. She is crazy smart and sassy, she's fun. However I won't sugar coat this, she is super insanely conservative. If you are a leftist or liberal (or even a sensitive democrat) I bet you $100 that you will drop this class before the end of the first week. You will hate her, I mean it. Watch out LOL
don't recommend. her lectures are very boring, doesn't really teach, would just read straight from the book. she goes off subject a lot. has you attend public meeting and write a paper. had to buy a wsj subscription that she barely had us read. she wants cameras on in zoom. hated this class, not impactful but easy enough to pass.
Honestly, don't take her. She doesn't teach well, like she doesn't explain things well and doesn't admit when she's wrong, she thinks only her views are right. She talks a lot but doesn't say stuff that is relevant. Only graded on tests and a paper where you have to go to a public meeting and write about it.
To say the least, Dr. Jimeno is a character for sure. Her POLS 100 course consists of 1 exam, 1 quiz, 1 paper, and the final. Definitely her class is a team effort situation. She goes on long tangents of very irrelevant things so you will need to ask her for a study guide cuz it's hard to keep track of what's important & what's not.
Was in the first class she taught online when the pandemic hit. Complete lack of preparedness was apparent, even considering the situation, and she had absolutely no control over a classroom. Some students would speak out and instead of addressing the situation maturely, she would childishly argue with them the entire time instead of teaching.
Easy but very informative class! 3 easy exams, just study well. One short paper where you write about attending a city council meeting in your area. Come to class, you'll learn a lot. And yes, while Professor Jimeno can be a little salty, she cares about her students at the end of the day and will make sure you actually learn.
If you really listen to what shes saying and ignore most of her more opinionated statements, you will get a lot from this class. I almost cried the first day I was so taken aback by the things she said. However, by the end of the semester, she was who left the greatest mark on me. Dont avoid taking her class just because she thinks differently.
We had a midterm, quiz, paper, and final. The exams were held online and are multiple-choice (50 questions, final is 100 questions). The paper requires you to attend a public meeting (online or in-person) and to write about your experience. Definitely made her political beliefs clear but didn't find her to be offensive.
I honestly enjoyed her class at the beginning of the year. Goes off on a lot of tangents and gives unnecessary information. Preaches multiple viewpoints, but puts down other opinions besides her own. May make you feel unintelligent for not knowing something. Graded by two tests and a paper. Not the worst, but I would look for someone better.
Prof Jimeno is very passionate about teaching and really cares about her students. Smart, good sense of humor, and focused. Midterm, Paper, and Final, no homework. Highly recommend.
Although very straightforward, Professor Jimeno does tend to go off on tangents about useless information that doesn't apply to the lecture at hand. Furthermore, although she doesn't state what stance she has on politics, it does become very apparent what she believes in from how extreme her views are. Very adamant about showing up to class.
Prof jimeno was pretty awful. She is very passive aggressive and will throw shade if you miss class. She's very obviously conservative and makes annoying comments all the time. Her lectures were also basically useless as she rarely talked about topics relevant to the class, which is why I still skipped a lot. Tests and quizzes are pretty easy tho.
She makes me crazy. This woman spends the first 45min of the lecture reading the WSJ to the class. Goes over definitions the rest of the class. Very republican and told us the JFK admin was not homophobic and she knows because "she was there and we weren't." Easy class though, I never showed up. Midterm, final, 1 quiz and 1 paper make your grade.
She is a horrible teacher, who gets super side tracked, and and is hella rude and insensitive to everyone. Very easy to tell what her views are and lectures are super biased.
Nancy is bad. But passionate She encourages thinking critically about news, including from the government. But she denies the AIDS crisis targeting gay people even after factual proof just because she likes Regan. she also has opinions on things she doesn't know + if you point out she is hypocritical, she just ignores u. also says racist stuff.
Very vocal about her political and religious views, constantly goes on rambles and considers it her "lectures". Does not take attendance. Grade is based off midterm, final, city council essay, and attendance/participation grade (she asks you what grade you think you've earned). I went to class 4x all semester, passed with a B. AVOID if possible.
I had Prof. Jimeno this last fall semester. I can understand why students say she is difficult. But if you understand and actually listen to what she is saying, you'll do fine. She is very straight forward, doesn't take attendance (but you will miss a lot of info if you don't go), and she makes you attend a city council meeting (it was worth it).
Her class is based on lectures, so attendance is important, but not required. She makes sure you understand what she is teaching and will go into full detail if you ask for clarification. No homework, just a paper and 3 exams throughout the semester.
Personally, I was not a fan of Jimeno at all. She would spend half the class dogging on students, and she had even told us at some point during the year we shouldn't be in college because it's a waste of time and just getting the money stolen by the government. Attendance is not required, and you only have two tests and a paper the whole semester.
I would recommend taking her because attendance is not mandatory, and you barely have any homework. She can be kind of harsh, especially if someone has views she does not agree with, and the first half of the semester, you don't really learn anything. Grade consists of city council meeting paper, group presentation and paper, and final essay
She is an okay Professor the work itself is very doable. You have 1 paper and 3 exams which are all fairly easy as long as you prepare. Her lectures are pretty pointless she rambles about random things.
Mrs. Jimeno's ridiculousness during her lectures is what kept the class engaging and less boring, which was genius considering she kept everyone waking by giving out these passive-aggressive responses on our papers and when everyone started talking about her, it was a thrilling experience for us students!
While the course was interesting and caused many to think about money and politics, her views and condescending attitude about being older and therefore smarter were irritating. Especially when dismissing views due to her experiences.
Craziest teacher I've ever had but her class was insanely easy, only 3 exams and 1 paper. She makes you go to a city council meeting for the paper but she grades fairly easily. Make sure to take good notes and study!
My favorite teacher this year. Lectures are interesting and her views on the outside world are honestly eye opening. She knows a lot of people in CA legislature which gives her lots of credibility. Appreciates when you participate, and hates when people skip class. I looked forward to attending every week!
I thought she was cool in the beginning but later was very dismissive of others and would only look at things from a close-minded perspective. She would say offensive things and had the mentality that bc of her age she was correct. Was very easy if you can get over the crazy stuff she says.
