she is nice and helpful, but kind of hard. she takes silly points off on the lab reports. I guess she is okay..
Good teacher. Easy to understand. Very personable and helpful.
She is very patient. She taught my online lab and was always willing to go over the material with me. If you have good time management skills and don't mind working alone you will be fine. I got a 94 in her class.
Very nice, but grades VERY harshly.
I am a female, and I still had problems with this class, so I guess I wasn't a favored female. She graded the lab reports so harshly. Counted over 20 pts off on one of my reports for sig fig and rounding errors!!! EVERY report had SOMETHING dumb wrong with it. It was like no matter how hard I worked on the goofy things, I still messed up.
Chemistry is based on detail, so that is why the grading is the way it is. I am a guy and got an A. She will take as much time as you need to explain anything to you. She is patient and very smart.
This professor is not very helpful. She did not take any time to help me understand the class. I had no problems with chemistry in highschool, but almost failed her class. She did not teach the material well; she is confusing and hard to follow. I recommend staying away from her class.
Not horrible, but it benefits to read the book before class. Stickler for sigfigs. Class required reports on scientists & vocabulary WHICH ARE ON THE TESTS! If you want to learn chemistry, this is not the class for you, but if you just need a refresher, she's pretty good
I took this professor for Chem 1211 Lab and I thought she was very helpful and understood most of what she was saying. She would go over the reports with me if i had any questions. I liked her lab class and am planning on taking it again next semester for Chem 1212
Wonderful Professor!! I had her for lab. She knew what she was talking about and would always help if you had a question. I ended up with a high A in the class, because of her. Would definantly take another class with her!!
She's very nice, not hard to understand at all. Got an easy B with very little effort. Takes late work with 10pts off.
Great teacher, Dr. Kirk is really friendly and she really cares. Her tests, however, are very difficult. You have to earn your grade in this class if you want it. The final is standardized and not difficult at all.
I took her for lab, and she is absolutely amazing! Just make sure you don't ask questions if you don't pay attention to her lecture;)
Awesome professor. Very helpful. I worked hard, read chapters, did homework. Tests can be easy/difficult depending on how much prep you did. Will work with you if she sees that you are working hard. Various extra credit available. Thought final was harder--did not study as much since I did not need a high final grade for A. Would take her again!!
I never had HS Chem so I was overwhelmed. Often we had a lab before it was taught in lecture. She is strict about keeping your lab notebook, which is exact duplication of lab manual which must also be filled out?&*! Material is hard and test are VERY hard, plus online quizes due before every class required. VERY time consuming for 1 measly credit!!
She was a great lab professor! She was always willing to help and made sure all of her students understood the labs and calculations. I would recommend her. She greats fair and you have to attend each lab, but she drops your lowest lab grade.
I had her for lab. She goes over everything you need to know before the lab begins. May seem redundant, but it helps. She was extremely helpful. On lab reports, include detailed calculations. I'd take her again.
Her lab is really great. She's so helpful and nice and explains everything. If you first start to see bad lab grades go to her and get help ASAP. Take her! You should be fine. Don't forget to take your online quizzes and fill out your MSDS sheet.
I had her for lecture this semester and lab for 1211. She was great for lab but not so much for lecture. She always got a little confused, especially with the calculations. She was always available for help outside of class. If chem is easy for you, she'll be easy but if you have trouble I suggest you take someone else. Still, I'd take her again.
She is a very wonderful and intelligent lady. Extremely smart and very willing to help you understand the material. I had her for lecture and lab and she was very helful in both classes. Probably the best science teacher I had at this school. Would definitely recommend her to anyone!!
took her for chem 1212 lecture, she is very helpful, she even helped me with my chem1212 lab material even though i was not enrolled in her lab class. if you wish to do well in this class, -go to class and PAY ATTENTION-read material BEFORE CLASS!-read material after class- do the homework problems from each chapter
Such a sweet lady!!! she's very helpful and goes through example problems to help. Also helped me with my lab even though i had a different teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but she gives regular quizzes so you want to try and be there. plus you need to be in class for her notes which make things clearer.
I had Dr. Kirk for CHEM 1212 lab, she will challenge you. She is an awesome teacher and will push you, she does grade very hard, but if you go to her before lab is due she will help you with the material. The final for this lab is not easy so do not blow off studying for it. If she offers a Friday study session, do it. Great class.
She is a great professor and easy to understand!! The optional study sessions she gives are the questions (slight number variation) from the tests. If you go to those you will make an A in the class. Don't be lazy and skip out though, you will get lost easily because you cover a lot of material.
If you go to the labs and do the work you will make an A. Turn everything in on time, because she doesn't accept it past a day late. Do your notebook and she will help you with the answers in class. Expect to stay the whole time to complete the lab there and not at home.
harsh grader
Professor Kirk is very helpful if you attend her classes and pay attention. You must do outside studying and do as much practice problems as possible to grasp the concepts. Show her that you care and are interested and she will help you out.
Dr. Kirk is the best choice for chem lab. She really helps you understand the material. She is nice and is passionate about what she teaches which helps you become passionate about chemistry as well. Dr. Kirk is an awesome professor. Take her class/lab!!!
For Chem 1212 lab Dr. Kirk was great. She's tough and scared me a bit at first but by the end of the semester I saw that she really cared about her students. She's a harsh grader but she's great at teaching and she tells you what she expects. If you visit her in her office she'll do everything she can to help so you'll do well on your lab reports.
This lab is not as easy as everyone says.I did all the work, turned everything on time, and when the final came I dropped by a full letter grade because of the final. There are no study guides for the final, it is very hard and it was only curved by 15 points. The TA was not much help, he was the one grading the papers.Too much work for a measly cre
Had for lab. Approachable and friendly. There are no free points here, will take points of for everything that is wrong, more power to her. I would recommend for anyone who wishes to learn and be prepared for up level chem lab courses. Final is difficult. Extra credit available. Will help you with you lab write-ups. Hard but a fantastic teacher.
Okay so Dr. Kirk I found is demanding of her students and she doesn't expect any slacking. Her teaching style on the other hand is relatively unorganized. Two major things in the class she likes to hurry through the examples during lecture and does not organize the test in an appropriate chronological order that helps you to succeed on her tests.
Dr. Kirk demands excellence out of her students in order to prepare them for higher level chem, so you really have to work to do well. Wonderful lab professor! Extremely helpful and passionate about the subject matter! If you don't comprehend something, she is very willing to help you outside of class. Extra credit possible. Take her!
I had Dr. Kirk as a lab instructor. She didn't usually teach the lab, but she was always there in the room. She is a very helpful person. Anything I didn't understand, she always explained it to me very clearly. She is very intelligent, and she expects a lot out of her students. Overall I would recommend her for sure!
She is super nice and very helpful! I have a TA who teaches the class and its preferably easy if you do the write up and understand what you are doing. One time i turned in a lab a week late because of personal issues i had the week before, i still got a B on it! Very good lab professor!
Don't care what anybody says, Dr. Kirk is an amazing professor. 1212 is one of the hardest classes I've had in college and she kicked our butts all semester long, but it really paid off when it came time for the final. If you don't study HARD you will not succeed, but it is chemistry so what can you expect. Take her and work hard. She's great!
She is so sweet and very intelligent, I would definitely recommend her!! The class is a little hard, but in lab you can ask her as many questions as you want to. She explains things very well and if you need extra help her office hours are very helpful because it is one on one and she knows what she is talking about.
Kirk was one of the best professors I've had yet. Chemistry is hard. No teacher can make it easy like everyone wants it to be. Kirk will devote her time to make sure you understand it. Go to her office hours and she will jump for joy to help you. I cant say enough good things about her and I WISH she taught chem 1212 next semester. Def recommend
She is a good teacher but she talks 100 miles per hour. Its hard to follow her in class. taking notes is not easy either. Tests are hard.
This is not an easy lab, beware! She is such a nice person and very personal. She can make you seem like an idiot sometimes but I don't think she realizes she's doing it. The final for this class is so hard, so be prepared to study very hard for it. Overall, I would say take her!!
She is extremely helpful. She and always available at office hours. She will literally reteach you the whole lesson. The class is initially hard (especially if your high school teacher was an idiot) but she makes it so much better.
I took Dr. Kirk for both lecture and lab. I got an A in lab and a C in lecture. She is very helpful only if you ask questions. Her tests are extremely hard (never made above an 83). She is a good teacher but the tests are twice as hard then what she teaches. I graduated with honors in high school and received my first c ever..
Very challenging, however she will go out of her way to help you. Truly helpful and with good intentions, however she will make you work for your grade. Would recommend time and time again.
Chemistry is not easy and Dr. Kirk tries to make it as easy as she can to understand. Don't take her office hours for granted she loves people coming by and will teach you the entire lesson again if you need. I highly recommend doing the book problems she gives even though they aren't required because you'll end up doing great in her class.
Attendance is not mandatory but she gives out pop quizzes so better go to your class. Doing your vocabulary is extra credit on your test. One of the easiest class I have ever taken. Ended up getting a 109 in the class.
amazing person. very kind and helpful. lots of work, but welcome to college. would definitely take her again
I recommend that you do not take her if you are not very organized. There are so many stuffs pointing off in lab reports. To be honest, I would take other professors who give me good grades easily if I were you.
Bittersweet for labs-- she is rude and is a tough grader, but it's probably better off to start with a tough lab instructor (especially if you're going to continue taking lab) because it will be easier later.
Dr. Kirk can be so rude. From her rendition of the dress code, to bugging people about lab goggles, to not allowing us to hug in class I stayed annoyed. It took some practice to not go off like I did in high school as this was my first semester in college. She is very smart and helpful and tries to be funny. Grades crazy. Final is impossible.
It's not that the labs are hard, it's the grading of the lab reports that is absurd. She takes off so many points for small errors. It's as if she thinks every student in her classes are all chem. majors. If you aren't super proficient in all things chem, I wouldn't take her.
I had Dr. Kirk for my chem 1211 lab. She never taught us in class (we had a TA) but I went to her office hours because my lecture professor didn't make much sense. She saved my grade! Her explanations are very clear, she's very patient, and she makes you work through multiple problems so she knows you get it. I definitely recommend her.
Prof. Kirk taught my Phys. Chem. class. It was a very difficult class however I learned more from that class than any other chem classes. If she teaches it again then take it with her. Also, I recommend going to her office hours. She's a great resource of knowledge and a very pleasant person. Study hard outside of class and ask questions.
Miserable teacher, blatantly disrespectful, unnecessarily cold and unclear with instructions. At our FIRST lab, she kicked just shy of half the class out. No forewarning about the stipulations she enforces so strictly, no warning in the syllabus, and is unwilling to explain reasoning. Short, to the point, if you ask why, don't expect an answer.
honestly probably one of the worst lab instructors. she takes points off for bad handwriting, crossing out things, sig figs, very harsh grader and particular. i got all the answers right on a report, still made a 70 b/c she takes off for stupid things. she kicks people out, and is rude. DO NOT TAKE HER. condescending professor, who's a know it all
DO NOT TAKE, you'll regret it. Her grading is impossible - she gives 0 credit if just sig figs are wrong. Ridiculously strict, & disrespectful not only to her students but also her assistant instructor and SI. She obnoxiously interrupts/talks over people. Not sure where her good rating came from, maybe she's a better lecturer than lab instructor.
Had her for physical chemistry, & it was HARD, but she is much better than the other p-chem professors here. Would take her again. If you take her for a lecture class, she's great, but she is awful in lab. Unnecessarily harsh grader, very rude, and will throw you out of lab for the dumbest things. My advice, take her for lecture, but avoid for labs.
She over grades everything. You have to make sure everything is textbook perfect or else she will fail you. Its nearly impossible to get at least a 90 on any lab report. She doesnt let you have your lab manual out during the lab and she doesnt allow you to sit.
By far the pickiest grader I have ever had! You will put allot of work into this 1 CREDIT hour course.
She's my favorite! At first she seems rude and condescending, but the reality is there are certain expectations in lab, it's not a playground, don't follow directions & she'll call you out. It's a TON of work for 1credit hr & she does grade hard but she gives you a RUBRIC, LIVE BY IT! Questions, go to her office hours, she's helpful w/ lecture too.
took her for chem lab, she comes off as rude at first but she does have to lay down the rules and she is very very helpful and nice when it comes to asking her questions, very tough grader, strict about no sitting in lab, proper attire down to the socks etc., never got out early
DON'T TAKE HER!!! I wish that i atleast read most of these comments before i even took her class, it's like she don't want any of her students to pass the class. She rather everyone to fail. I would never in my life take any of her classes again, I rather transfer to a different school before i do something like that.
Almost everyone in my lab made a C or below on every lab report they turned in. EXTREMELY terrible when it comes to grading. For example: she counted points off one of my labs because one of my numbers were "sloppy"
I personally enjoyed professor Kirk. She wants her students to succeed and is available outside of class if you are confused. Her lectures are awesome and she enjoys participation from students, so know you stuff. Homework is heavy but it really does better prepare you for the test. If you are a science major you will love Professor Kirk!
Great lab teacher. Very helpful and easy grader on labs. I got an A on all labs and I'm not great at chemistry. I highly recommend her.
She is an extremelyy caring person who will help you through your labs. Take her! Easy A
She's very very nice, but also very strict. She took time before each lab to thoroughly explain the concepts, which was super helpful. She's a tough grader but clear about what she's looking for. I'd take her again, just be prepared to put the work in for a good grade. Apparently the final is impossible, so your lab grades need to be good.
Nancy is a great lab teacher who really cares about her students' success. I would take her for all my labs., She will help you during labs when you have a question and allow you to stay late.
Attend all labs, pay attentionn, ask questions, and you will have an A. If you have a question, go to her office hours and she will help you with your lab. Take her for sure
She is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. She is a tedious grader, narcissistic, and rude. She answers questions with another question, she is a fan of public embarrassment, and she does not respect her students. She takes off points for every little thing, but does not give feedback for previous assignments. Do not take her.
A lot of people bag on Dr. Kirk, but she's one of the best science professors I've had. She takes the time to thoroughly explain course material, and though she makes you work for your grade, she prepares you well for any labs you might take in the future. Very smart, explains the material clearly and well. Not an easy A but very possible.
1 lab is dropped, quiz answers are on Quizlet, and a final exam. The lab is not hard, but she is extremely picky. She is available outside of class so take advantage of her office hours. She genuinely cares and wants you to understand what is happening in her lab. She sometimes offered extra credit to whoever had the cleanest lab bench.
Her lectures are understandable and made easy to understand. You definitely need the book if you want to do okay on the online assignments, but they help so so much, so I am glad she made it a grade. Her tests are very straight forward. I have gotten A's on all so far. She is also really accessible and her communication with us is great. Love her!
I honestly have nothing bad to say about Prof. Kirk. She often makes her class pair up into groups for short in-class assignments, but that's not too annoying, tbh. 5 tests and she drops the lowest one. Online homework on every chapter we cover. I recommend her.
When she tells you that you will need to study for her class, she's really not kidding. This class is a huge commitment, between the SI sessions that will be your saving grace and the things she expects which she will communicate to you via lengthy emails that she sends daily. I would not recommend her to anyone who has any weakness in chemistry.
I really liked Kirk and her teaching style. She lectures every class. Class is not mandatory but definitely go!! Read the textbook and go to class and you will get a good grade.
Dr. Kirk is by far one of the best professors I have at KSU. She offers so much of her time to help you if you need it. The drop/fail rate is high because people simply do not try hard enough or care. Dr. Kirk does everything she can to ensure you will pass. I definitely recommend her if you are not good at chemistry. She's one of the best!
Only good thing I have to say about her is that she's accessible outside of class. Hardly. Her office hours are always packed, bc people are trying to save their grades. Tough grader. She will say it's right then mark it wrong when given back lab reports. Lol. I hated the class so much. Worst thing to happen to me at KSU. Do not take her.
Worked through a lab with her, and it was my worst grade. I did better on Lab reports without asking for her help. You stay the whole 3hrs b/c she wont sign off on your lab if you're not done. Also lectures at least 1 hour during lab. Takes a whole point off for sig figs on each Q's which kills your grade. Office hours are packed...
Literally the worst professor I have had at kennesaw. Sends you emails telling you whats over the first 3 or so quizzes, but after that it is a guessing game on if you have a quiz and what it is over. She expects you to study no less than 12 hours a week and go to office hours and help session to make a B in the class. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Do yourself a favor and don't take her. She is not clear about what is on test and quizzes. She expects you to not have a life outside chemistry to do well in the class. Actually a genuinely terrible teacher.
Doesn't have attendance but gives pop quizzes at least once a week. I love science and am very studious, but her class is overkill. Lots of assignments and homework heavy- expect to do work everyday for her. She's passionate about chemistry but expects you to be as well. Ridicules questions. Test questions come from study modules and homework
Homework assignments left right and center through several different online and physical forms, but besides that mild pain in the arsch she gives good lectures and the tests are very easy.
Kirk isn't a bad teacher, I'll start with that. She just has a very intense approach to chemistry and she expects you to do the same. She even stated that she believes her class is hard enough to the point that you could drop all your classes and take purely her's. She will help if you ask for it, but to the average student, this class can be hard.
Perhaps my least favorite Prof. ever. Did not allow phones out, and took to openly shaming students for asking viable questions in class. Incredibly dismissive, she knows the content and is mediocre at teaching it, but treats her students very poorly and created an environment where they felt afraid to ask questions. I taught myself the content.
The semester was rough, to say the least; Dr. Kirk is really passionate about P Chem but hasn't taught it since 2013 so it was a learning experience for us all. She gives lots of homework (this is to your benefit as it weighs 20%). Tests are difficult but fair! This is a HARD course but she is willing to work with you to help you succeed if you are
Her lectures are all over the place. You are better off learning the material from you tube videos. But you still have to go to class for the overkill quizzes that 9 times out of 10 you will fail. Her course does not prepare you for the ACS final. Made 2 high A's and a high B on the exams, then dropped a 45 on the final. Very disappointing.
Dr. Kirk is very smart and knows her stuff. She's a pretty hard grader on lab reports. She always pretty much requires you to stay for the entire lab period and won't let you leave after collecting your data. She lectures for almost a hour at the beginning of every lab. Also, know your stuff before you go in because she calls on you to answer.
Shes nice, but shes a horrible professor. It is nearly impossible to get an A out of her. The quizzes at the beginning of each class is nearly impossible to pass. One time I went to her office and went over an entire lab to make sure everything was correct and she gave me an 84??? Makes no sense. She grades everything so hard, very old fashioned.
Dr. Kirk is a great instructor, she is very caring. If you have any questions she will throughly answer them. Make sure you tell her if you dont understand something otherwise shell move on. Shes strict on grading the lab reports/lab notebooks. But, if you read her emails she will tell you everything she wants. Do what she says, youll do fine!
DO NOT TAKE HER. she is the worst. Grades extremely hard for no reason. 3 hour lab? Expect to stay late every single time. Always yelling. Always rude. Only good thing is shell do the lab with you if you go to her office hours. I took Stephen white for 1151L and got an easy A. Pretty sure Ill get a C in her class.
I went into this class expecting it to be relatively difficult. After about the 3rd class it became very easy to understand. Dr. Kirk really enjoys teaching chemistry and you can tell. She is always willing to help you with anything you do not understand. She is one of my favorite professors. I recommend taking her.
The new lab curriculum was not vetted very well, lots of errors, I am a good student, impossible to do well in her class. No reason for grading, hard to succeed. Stay away form her. Nice lady but that really does not matter. Sends out emails the night before the lab is due, changing the requirements, very frustrating
Avoid at all cost. Her attitude is very condescending and when students ask for help via in class or email she is very sassy. I wouldnt recommend at all
At of all my teachers at KSU she has by far been the worst. She does not clearly explain what is needed to be answered in the weekly lab reports. I would not take her again.
Terrible experience... Im paying money to attend college. And when you are not allowed into class because you did not right two sentences in your notebook... Not cool. Completely waste of time. I spent twice as much time on this class as I spent on the core chemistry class. I would spend 3-4 hours on lab reports just to receive 35%-55% grades.
DO NOT TAKE HER! It is impossible to get an A in this class. For a general chem lab, she makes it way harder then it needs to be and is particular about everything. She tells you that your work in class looks good then when you submit it you get an F. She likes to spam you with emails the night before something is due and change the assignment.
this woman was absolutely HORRIBLE. you could go over the entire lab with her and shell tell you that everything looks good. then shell give you back the grade and itll be like a 70. like for what? shes not a mean woman, but shes not a good professor. at all. shes not good at explaining things and does not give good feedback. AVOID HER.
Even if this is the last open prof. I would NOT take her!! She checks notebooks before you enter the class and if you don't have what she wants in it she will make you sit in the hall to fix it so you end up missing your BEGINNING of class quiz or she'll send you home. Grades so hard even when MAX effort is put into a lab or homework assignment.
Professor Kirk is a great professor for lab. She explained everything before the lab so it was easier to understand, and she was really good at answering any questions. Shes also just generally a gem and very sweet and knows her subject very well.
Gives an hour lecture before every single lab. Will single you out to answer her question about each lab, if you don't know the answer she publicly shames you for "not reading you lab report". Corrects your math in lab then will mark off points later because its still not correct. You will never get a 100 on a report, even if you go to her office.
Absolutely love Dr. Kirk. I had her for 1211L and 1212L. It is very easy to make an A in this class she drops the lowest quiz grades and lab grade. If you go to her office hours you will make A's on her labs. She is a tough grader but will check your work and answer any questions in office hours.
She was honestly a very difficult teacher to work with. I thought teachers were so suppose to be helpful and understanding. She was not helpful in any way even though I would email her. She would give vague responses that would not answer my question. She also definitely had favorites and singled those out she did not like.
She can be a very condescending at times. 4 test and none of them are dropped. If you do better on a particular section on the ACS, it will replace your test grade that is in the gradebook. She did not adapt well to the transition to online. Very fast paced and often goes over new material two days before the exam. I would not recommend her.
Dr. Kirk is a very sweet lady! She was very helpful and available for questions. Her test were tough. She gave out LOTS of hw due on random days throughout the week which were kinda hard to keep up with. She gave out extra credit on the last 3 exams. Really helped my grade. If you are ready to study she is great!
Don't take her. I love chemistry and I have made A's in all of my prev. chem courses but she is just a bad professor and made her chem class a living hell. She explains concepts that aren't on exams and then leaves out some that are. And overall she's not understanding of her students at all--she just doesn't care. I could go on and on...; avoid!
I would 100% take her for chemistry I. The homework she gives is insanely hard however her test are a pushover if you study for them. She is really nice and gives extra credit up to 10 points on every test. Without a doubt I highly recommend taking this teacher.
Dr Kirk is literally the best professor I have ever had! If you ever have a problem with anything, go to her office hours and she will be happy to help. The homework was pretty hard, but some of the homework counts for extra credit. Participation in class is definitely recommended; she has random pop-up things that count for a portion of your grade
At the beginning of the course you are warned that it (CHEM 1211) has a high rate of Fs and withdrawals. I find it funny they are self aware but change nothing. Do not take that warning lightly. Dr. Kirk uses a homework system called Smartwork that is very difficult and are assigned at random with no parody. I will say she is passionate though.
Very tough grader for absolutely no reason Id be better off if I took a class with a foreign teacher who grades properly.
I have Dr. Kirk for Chem 1211L this semester. She is a nice lady outside of the classroom, but when it comes to grading, she grades based on whether she agrees with you or not, and she is upfront about that. She tries to say that overall she grades based on understanding, but that is not the truth. She grades outrageously and it causes failing
dr kirk seems like a nice enough lady, but will fail you with zero explanation. we are 2 weeks from the end of the class, yet have no idea what our grades are - our current grades are all failing. refuses to explain why she grades the way she does, and is not accommodating at all. avoid.
Get ready to dedicate yourself to many hours of studying because you won't get much from lectures if you're not glued to the screen. Hopefully, you'll have a study group of friends because you will not do well on your own. She gives extra credit on tests, especially if 90% of the class fails. If you're stuck, get help immediately!
Every time I talk to her, I feel stupid. She is overall a nice lady but she is a very tough grader. Her feedback is hilarious as in how it doesn't make sense. its like she copy and paste from the rubric. she isn't actually telling you what you did wrong. If she is the only teacher left for lab, take her. But if you have a chose then don't.
Do not take her unless you are okay with not getting an A. She says things at the beginning of the semester and then does a 180 by the end of the semester. She will give you failing grades but not tell you what you did wrong. Please do not take her.
Although she does give quite a bit of extra credit, if you are not super interested in chemistry, this class will be tough. If your willing to put in a lot of time for homework and studying, this class is good for you.
