Lecture was all posted online. Hard class, you have to study really hard for all the tests and even then its still a difficult test. She did not go over all the information you were tested over and expected you to know it just because it was on the syllabus. She is not an awful person, she just has a bad teaching style. Take Cullen if you can.
Attendance was recommended but not mandatory. Going to class was pointless, all the notes are given to you and she goes through them so fast that you can barely comprehend everything. The class is hard, but if you do everything that you are supposed to and study you should get a good grade.
She's fun, kind, and nice. I learned basic life skills in this class and hardly went. I got 'B's on most my tests but got an A in the class. She's great!
Cancels class frequently. Very flakey. Tests aren't very difficult, all the information is on the powerpoints. She's late to class a lot.
Great teacher! Very easy classes. She drags class on longer than need be. She is a sweet heart, that wants you to succeed.
Awesome teacher. More than willing to help you. Easy exams. She loves everyone and everything. Great teacher!
AWESOME teacher! Great with us students. More than willing to help. Genuine lady.
Really good teacher. She does get distracted and off topic which puts us behind. Other than that she knows what she is talking about and strives to teach her students. It is an easy class and the tests are easy. All powerpoints are online.
Nancy was disorganized and uncertain. She's a nice person but she made the class way more difficult than it needed to be.
Nancy is awesome. While the class isn't hard, you learn a lot. I didn't go into the class thinking I would learn much but surprisingly I learned a lot. Great class, escpecially for beginners in the cooking world like myself. Also, dont waste your money on the book. Dont hestitate to ask questions either, she's extremely helpful.
Nancy is one of those professors who really knows what she's talking about. going to her courses will benefit you if you pay attention, and ask questions. If you have questions or seek advice, she is a book of knowledge. I have learned so much from her. heads up: some of her tests were simple but others were tricky & and caught me off guard!
She gives useless study guides. I would do fine in lab and do the entire study guide from what I had in the powerpoint notes, but she bases all of her test material off stuff she says in her dull, disorganized lectures and doesn't make a point to emphasize the important stuff. Go to class.
Tests are tough even if you study- a lot of information. Nancy is a very nice person but makes it hard to follow in lecture with her going through the information way too fast. She often gets sidetracked and tends to cancel class frequently. She NEVER responds to e-mails so the best way to contact her is in person.
This class is very easy as long as you pay attention in class and spend a couple hours to study. She gives outlines that are the exact questions on the test so go to class to fill them out and make notecards. It's an easy A if you put in a little effort
Such an awesome person and teacher. Always there for you and willing to take time out of her day to help you. Gives you her phone number to text her. Very personable and if you show up to class every day, you should do well.
Great teacher, I can't wait to have her again. The only thing that bothered me a bit was her clarity. She seems to be a little flustered because of the multitude of classes she teaches.
one of the sweetest and most genuine professors I have had in my college careers. lots of information and tests can be a bit overwhelming but if you attend class and fill out the outlines she gives you or study the study guides you should do great! would love to take another class from her!
Literally her outlines are exactly what are on the tests. Other than her getting sidetracked sometimes, she's great. I've never had a professor respond to emails so fast. Don't expect her to cancel class though, as she only did once because of us happening to be way ahead of schedule.
Class can be hard if you don't go, but nancy makes the information easier to understand. She enjoys feedback from students, and loves what she's doing. She gives quizzes online and outlines in class for notes to help review for tests, which really provides you with what to focus on. Information can be overwhelming, but the notes pages really helped
She's very jumbled. I skipped class most of the time and still got a B. I would have gotten an A but I over slept on a lab and didn't know about the lab make up policy. She doesn't out right say it, but if you miss a lab there is a section of 10 short essay questions in the back that you can answer to make it up. She's super flighty but nice.
LOVED NANCY! my girl. she is the best person you will ever meet. Study for her tests, you need to put work in but if you do and respect her, you get so much out of it! TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HER!
If you are in FCS this class is mandatory, but Nancy makes it fun and she tries to make it as exciting as possible. In this course you have to learn APA formatting and she understands it is difficult and will work with you to make sure you succeed. She wants to be involved in your learning and is very accessible. I highly recommend Nancy for 200
Overall easy Gen ed! I recommend you take notes and GO to Friday classes! You learn a lot and she usually gives one or two questions that will be on the exams/quizzes to people who go come to classes! You will learn interesting stuff if you pay attention! Nancy is kind and a great professor!
***IMPORTANT: DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK!!!*** Nancy is the sweetest person ever and she really appreciates when people are interested (even if you fake it). Her lectures can be boring cause she just drones on and on, but she is definitely more than willing to help outside of class and she gives a TON of extra credit.
She is one of the kindest and understanding professors I've ever had, often taken advantage of. She is very understanding with students skipping class and turning in assignments late. Tries her best to help her students be successful and learn a lot
Nancy is a kind person who truly loves her job. She offers so much extra credit and truly wants to see you succeed. Her lectures are a bit long, but her power points are extremely helpful and are available on ReggieNet in case you miss class. She also provides study guides and outlines for each chapter that are optional and are great for studying.
At first I was struggling in Nancy class. she is very lecture heavy, and the tests have a lot to memorize with a lot of specific scientific terms. I spoke with Nancy on multiple occasions about extra credit and she was more than willing to give extra credit out for Friday classes. you def have to study, but Nancy does care.
Nancy was one of my favorite teachers I've had so far, I enjoyed her lectures, the homework assignments were fun, and the tests were a breeze if you did the review sheets for them. It's not an easy A, but if you put in the work and come to class you should get by just fine. Plus she gives a ton of extra credit which helps.
Nancy is an amazing teacher. This semester is my first with her, and I truly feel like she cares about each and every student. She never makes you feel stupid for asking questions or giving your opinion. Great job ISU for hiring a teacher like Nancy!
Nancy is great! Yes her tests are difficult but she gives a study guide and highlights things in the notes that you need to know. She gives random attendance points so go to class! Her lectures are pretty boring but she gives good examples and explains the material well. Lots of quizzes and homework but they pad your grade! Overall great professor!
Nancy really is a great professor who wants her students to succeed. The exams are pretty difficult, but she posts reviews and kahoots to help you study. She is very kind and easy to talk to and I would highly recommend taking a class with her!
Easiest class ever. Nancy is so kind and sweet, but is difficult to get ahold of when it comes to mistakes made during grading. She reads straight off a power point that she posts online. All quizzes are take home. My only regret is actually going to class. I never missed class and wish I would have only shown up on test days. EASIEST A EVER!!!!
She was a good prof. really easy, didn't try to hard to make it difficult. as long as you try a little bit you should be fine.
Nancy is great. The lab is required, but so much fun I don't know why you would want to skip it. Her lectures tend to get off task, but she enjoys talking about the topic, so it's enjoyable to hear.
I would most definitely take this class again. Nancy was an amazing teacher. She is really understanding of her students needs and does her best to help. The information can be a lot but if you go to class you will do fine. The quizzes are online and are not difficult.
Nancy is super sweet and really gets to know her students. It would be really helpful to attend classes. She posts her powerpoints online but I struggled to understand the information and wish I went to class more. There is a lot of extra practice in the online textbook and they are really helpful with her online quizzes.
Took this class online during COVID, there were 6/7 assignments that you have 3 attempts on and then there were chapter tests for each chapter but everything came from the PowerPoint. She is a little slow lecturer, but if you pay attention and try you will do good. Zoom was once a week only and not mandatory but recommended.
I would recommend going to her lectures, she posts everything but it is sometimes hard to understand without her explaining. The class was only graded on a few assignments and quizzes, there is no final exam and every quiz is just due at the end of the semester. She rounded my 88% to 90%, she definitely looks/helps out for her students.
Prof Koch cares deeply about her students and their education. To excel in her class, you should attend lectures. Sometimes she may seem disorganized; however, she is very knowledgeable about her topic. If you ask a question, she might not know the answer but she will research it and bring it up to you. Accessible by email and willing to help you.
The lectures are easy to follow, but the exam questions are based on the book. She is great when you ask her specific questions about the content and study guide, however it can be hard to gauge what the exams will exactly be testing.
I truly did not like having Koch as a professor. She was a nice lady for sure but she did not know how to lecture or maintain anyone's attention. The tests are also way different than the material she teaches in class. And with only a couple weeks left in the semester she will tell you that theres an attendance policy that could drop your grade.
Nancy is such a kind person and a good professor too. She has a tendency to go off on tangents but it's because she's so interested in the subject she teaches. It can be hard to gauge exactly what will be on the test even with the study guide and but just show up to lecture and you will do well.
She is very nice but the lectures are not engaging, most of the material you need to know on the test is in the study guide so I would use those. She also told us at the end of the semester that she was now enforcing a new attendance policy that could fail most of the class, which was not very cool. The exams were not very hard in my opinion.
Nancy is a nice person and cares about the success of her students. Make sure you go to class because she makes attendance mandatory. Overall, this class is pretty easy but is not just a knock off easy A class. You will still need to study and work hard for the A.
I loved Nancy, I feel like the material was easy to grasp and I loved her cahoots before exams. The lectures were kind of boring but how exciting can learning about proteins be lol
BEWARE OF ATTENDANCE POLICY! She checks for attendance! Overall she truly cares about the well beings of her students. She offered extra credit a few times. The exams are based on book and partially lecture.
Class quizzes and homework is very easy. Tests are pretty average. Very nice lady, but NEVER responds to emails. I was less than a percentage point away from an A at the very end of the semester because she, or the TA for that matter, never responded to my emails about an assignment which cost me my grade.
Out of all 5 of my classes I am taking right now she is the only teacher I have who takes a second before the class to say hello and ask how our weekend was. She is such a nice caring lady who cares about her students. I study so hard for this class every day but for me personally it is a really hard class you definitely need to spend time to study
So so nice and friendly love her nutrition class super easy to talk to
Ong, Nancy is a g. She is nice and genuinely interested in her subject of teaching. She truly cares for her students and their performance. But BEWARE! Lectures are hard to listen to at most times. Bruh, why tf are there so many B-Vitamins, and why are there so many cycles in making energy?! Lowkey don't even hate on her, j hate the curriculum.
Nancy was such a sweet, caring lady and dedicates time to helping outside of class. Homework and quizzes were easy. However, lectures were quite confusing and I often found it difficult to study for exams as she doesn't really teach to the exam. I personally found the concepts within the course material a bit difficult to fully grasp.
I absolutely loved having Nancy as a professor. This was a difficult course and the exams were tough. Not an easy A as I had to study daily, but overall really enjoyed the class. Nancy is the sweetest person ever and really wanted us all to succeed. I went to her office hours almost every week and she was always helpful. Go to study sessions!
Nancy is the sweetest person and is very passionate about what she is teaching but her lectures are pretty hard to follow. She gets off track a lot and crams stuff towards exams but if you reach out to her she is very helpful and understanding. Her exams have a ton of content but she provides study guides that have everything you need to know.
Textbook is used through Cengage/MindTap homework assignments; only 10 to complete and are easy points. Quizzes once a week online/at home. Lecture heavy, has QR code scans for attendance. Lots of content, but she prepares you extremely well for the exam. Definitely a class you need to put time into for studying, but she is truly fantastic
Lectures loaded with information, can get lost quickly if you don't show up. She can be very understanding. BE PREPARED TO STUDY ALOT
Will respond to emails in couple days. Has QR code for attendance, will randomly have not scan. Go to class, or have friend tell you to scan or not. Offers 5 extra credit questions on every test. 50 question multiple choice test. Online access code for textbook. Drops lowest test grade. Mandatory final. Study guide for test each unit. Super sweet.
Several times during semester she was late. On a couple of occasions she didn't show up for class. Called her out for lack of professionalism. Found out from other faculty members that she started talking very negatively about me. Would have preferred her to confront me directly. Very unprofessional!!!
Nancy Koch struggles to keep students engaged and often rambles on after class, wasting time. She's unresponsive to emails, leading students to discuss matters in person. She frequently cancels classes, seems unprepared, and arrives late. It might be better if she considers a different career, maybe enjoying retirement as a house grandma.
She is a nice professor overall, but unless you are ready to fully teach yourself the material dont take it. Her lecture slides are way too long, with lots of unuseful information on them that are irrelevant. She also always goes off topic repeatedly during class so it's difficult to pay attention and actually retain any lecture information.
Nancy is a loving, caring, and genuinely passionate professor. I did find lectures to be a bit difficult to sit through, but she does a lot to prepare the class for exams. I would recommend going to class because she offers extra credit and will even provide test questions to her frequent class-goers. She gives study guides that help for exams.
Her lectures are boring. She goes off topic a lot and stays on one slide for 20 minutes. However, she can be interesting at times. Just make sure you attend class because she sometimes gives extra credit and hints to what will be on the test. Doing the study guides and attending the zoom study sessions help a lot with exams.
She is very understanding and caring. She is always eager to answer questions and help students understand concepts. The lectures at time can be boring and she likes to get off topic sometimes, but if you attend classes she will give out random EC and will give you questions that will be on the exam. The study guides and review sessions are great!
Nancy's class was relatively easy if you go to class. She will tell you exam questions during class and information that is on the exam. She also does not follow her syllabus, she is always running behind of schedule. The text book is expensive and useless, but we have to buy it ($130 down the drain)
You better be good at memorizing. Tons of content & you end up having to teach yourself. Takes a while to respond to emails and when she does, she doesn't even answer the question. Has favorites too - makes it so obvious too. Worst class I have taken at ISU. I have a 3.6 GPA and got a D in this course. Stay away!
This class should have been interesting but instead it was way harder than it needed to be. She simply does not know how to lecture. She trails off subject so much and gets distracted with other topics. Attend all the classes for extra credit purposes and she is known to round if you are close. Cengage is expensive and we don't really use it.
I took FCS113 with Nancy and she was amazing! You could tell she really cared about her students and what they got out of the class. For lectures attendance wasn't mandatory, but it's good to go because you get updates about the mandatory labs, occasional in-class assignments, lecture material is on the exam.
Dr. Koch was a good professor, she got off topic a lot but she managed to cover everything in a single unit before the test. The tests weren't hard since she gave us a lot of questions and answers before the test and also gave a lot of practice tests/study guides. She remembers students names and clearly cares about our wellbeing.
Nancy is very caring and kind. She is not very organized, so lectures do not cover much material. Use the textbook and Google to fill out the study guide to prepare for exams. She expects that you have an understanding of cellular respiration/Kreb's cycle coming in. Attendance counts. If you have a 96% or higher, she exempts you from the final.
She's a very caring professor and is very kind in lecture. Material is fairly easy if you attend lectures, and tests all have extra credit at the end.
I loved Nancy. She was so personable and down to earth, which made it easy to listen to her lectures and to attend class. Nancy was also always helpful when it came to grading and raising your grade. Would 100% recommend!
She's an amazing teacher you have to communicate with her if there's any issues and she's usually pretty understanding. She started taking attendance later in the semester with qr codes so you do have to go class. She gives study guides for the exams which are 55 multiple choice questions and 5 being extra credit but the study guide isn't.
Nancy is a very sweet professor if you have any issues or need help she is always available. She does review sessions on Zoom before exams and gives out a study guide for the exams which is super helpful. She also gives some extra credit opportunities throughout the semester and really cares for her students its an easy class if you put in the work
Nancy cares about her students a lot and the class is pretty easy. Lectures can sometimes be boring but if you show up and take notes it is easy to do well. Study guides are very helpful for the tests and her review sessions the night before exams are also very helpful. Overall a very good professor!
She is a very nice teacher; her class is easy, just show up to lecture and take notes. She hosts review sessions before every exam. There is 5pt of extra credit per exam, and she will usually give those answers during the lecture.
As long as you attend lectures and do the study guides, it's an easy class. She tells you a lot of test questions and does a good job of preparing you for the exams. Dr. Koch is sweet and you can tell she cares about her students, her class is just very boring.
This professor gives some easy online assignments and for the test, she will do a zoom that goes over the entire test. If you listen to the zoom and do the study guides, you will do good on exams! She gives 5 extra credit on exams and 10 points at the end of year. Only problem is that she takes attendance and lectures are boring (goes on tangents).
Professor Koch genuinely wants her students to succeed. She takes a little bit to respond to emails, however she is always willing to help. The lectures can be boring at times, however if you don't attend you will not know the extra credit questions on the exam. I would recommend her.
This class is harder than you would think. You have to pay attention in lectures because she gives away all the extra credit in class. It is hard to follow sometimes because she talks a lot. I really enjoyed her class towards the end. The tests are hard, but the Zoom study sessions also help. She offered EC at the end of the semester.
Never could or would pay attention in class as she would always go off topic. The only thing that saved me were her zoom meetings and the extra credit. Other than that I would have failed because I couldn't pay attention to her. Don't bother emailing her as she says 48 hours per the policy, however she just never responds.
Understanding if you need to reschedule an exam. Make sure you watch posted zoom review session before exams and write down every. word. she. says. I feel like she reads the exam and just asks the question its that easy. Doesn't take attendance until like half through semester but i dont think its an issue unless u have a C in the class/i didnt go
I enjoyed having Nancy Koch as a professor, but this class was incredibly difficult to learn for me. I don't know what could change or if it was more just my learning skills, but I would not recommend this class. But, every experience that I had with Nancy was pleasant and she definitely cares! Hopefully in other classes I can learn from her more!
This professor has been great so far. She explains topics well and is very willing to answer individual questions. She gets to know students well in a fairly big class, especially when they put in effort, and is an overall kind person. I especially like this class because it is related to my major.
Great gen-ed. Lectures are slightly boring, but content is digestable, homework is minimal, tests aren't absurd. Dr. Koch is a caring professor that seeks to understand her students as individuals, and attempts to find ways to make content as engaging as possible.
Nancy is an overall great professor. Go to class and you'll get an easy A. ATTEND THE REVIEWS ONLINE before tests, she gives you everything you need to know and the test is a BREEZE! FCS 102 is basic nutrition and super easy imo. If ur into fitness and nutriton you'll love this class. Highly recommend the class and Nancy!
Nancy was a great professor! She truly wants you to succeed. Attend the online zoom review sessions and you will pass each test!!! Homework is super easy and very minimal.
Overall I really enjoyed this class, it is very lecture heavy, but overall very straightforward, However I do find her to be awfully judgemental and insenstive at times. Expectations are extremely clear and all work and exams are very straightforward. Overall an okay class, not my most favorite but solidly fine.
Notices who shows up, gives extra credit on every test. Lecture heavy, but if you pay attention you will get a good grade. Zoom review sessions held before every test are very helpful. She is so nice and you can tell she cares about her students.
She works with students that are struggling in this class and that didn't do well on their exam. She does care because she wants students succeed in this class. Make sure you attend class too otherwise you will get a bad grade.
Super caring and sweet lady. Lectures were boring, but she's funny. She always has Extra credit in exams and she holds review sessions on zoom for exams, she technically reads questions from the exams. She is super helpful.
