Not very organized, treats you like you are in High school
No Comments
No organization. No clue on what she is teaching. NO clue on how to teach it!
She is very friendly and doesn't rush the material.

She is very nice and helpful. She knows the material very well.
i guess you could call her nice. Her classes are incredibly boring. She skips around the material alot and you never know what shes talking about. MY MATH LAB SUCKS!! She takes forever to grade stuff and even longer to get it back. Many chances for grades. LONG TESTS!!!!
Prof. Chell is very encouraging, knowledgeable and helpful. She uses MyMathLab, and loves to give word problems & paper work. But she also does her part to see that no one fails in her class (as much as possible on her end). I totally recommend her as a Math teacher.
She tries...She is a very nice lady but she does not have very good teaching skills. She is highly unorganized and MY MATH LAB is a waste of time (she relies on it too much for teaching).
Boring teacher, isn't helpful, annoying as****
I had her for both 011 n 012 i love her! MML is great. it explains how to get the answer versus tryin to guess She does rely on it alot. Either way she is willing to help students pass. She is soo nice how can u not love her!
she was very unwilling to help me with the online course. she was lient on the turn in date, but other than that she just wasted our time. The worst part is having other adults in the class. they have no clue on how to do anything so it gets worse. she strays off topic alot
Shes the best math teacher I ever had. If you want to learn she is there to help. She has no problem allowing you to see her while she is at her office.Noone likes math and she understands that some ppl just dont understand it at first.I recommend her to all those who dont like math.
One of the worst teachers ever. She relies to much on a horrible online course call My Math Lab. She pretty mean. I asked for help and she wouldnt help me, but she would help another student. I have no idea why she is like this. She strays off topic alot and stops the class alot to help the adults in class.
I wish she would show up to class. she is absent more then I am. wtf?
She was a great teacher, always took the time to explain things and went slow if needed to. She does rely on My Math Lab a lot which I loved. Her goal is to make sure every student passes so her intentions are genuine.
She was always willing to help, loves to answer questions. She will take the time to explain until you understand. Every test is curved...I suck at math, but because of her, I received a B! I would recommend her to everyone.
Wonderful Professor. Very nice and understands people who absolutely hates math like myself. I regret not having her for the 131 hybrid class!
she is pretty good she just gives essays for the exam which is good because she gives it to u a week in advance
Prof. Chell is a wondeful professor. She is able to explain Algebra to a 1st grader (ME!). She expects you to work hard and atleast pretend you are interested. But believe me she makes you interested. If you have no clue about math take Prof. Chell she will help you understand. SHE'S THE GREATEST!
Fun teacher. Willing to help you out if you need it. Very understanding, and curved tests. Homework was done online, so you could do it over and over again until you got a good grade. Quizzes were online too. I suck so bad at math and because of her help I got a B!
worst i've ever had.
I had her for 011, 012, and 131. She really wants students to succeed, but Algebra is still *a LOT* of work! Show up every class, pay attention, study the text and do your homework! She will work to help you understand, but you still have to work hard. If you don't like doing homework on the computer, find a different class. (She always runs late.)
(hybrid class) If you have a hard time understanding math, this would be a great class for you! Proff Chell really wants her students to succeed in mathematics and she will do as much as she can to help each student! I would recommend her class to anyone.
I took MAT012 as a hybrid course, she made it easy though it is a tough course.I was very happy with her class.
Very good teacher. Cares if you learn the material. she wants you to suceed in algebra. I took her 011,012,and 131. highly recommend her.
I didnt learn anything from her class. She expects you to have already learned everything. No lesson plans, she uses all the time for class reviewing homework that you have taught yourself. I dropped the class after a month because I was not able to learn. I suggest to not take her class if you can not teach yourself lessons.
She is very good with explonations - really wants you to understand. I took a hybrid so I had class just once a week and rest was online. A lot to do in MyMathLab. She hands out too many papers in my opinion, but gives partial credits on the exams. A little unorganized, but very knoledgeable.
Do not take a math class with prof. chell if you aren't extremely good at math. She assigns homework either from the book or in mymath lab without teaching you how to do any of it. You have to learn how to do everthing from the book or math lab, she pretty much doesnt do anything
Professor Chell is a very nice lady, though she can sometimes be too sweet which become very VERY annoying. She cracks jokes from time to time, which she trys way too hard, she is very boring. In fact i think she is more boring than she is annoying and she is extremely annoying. Tests are VERY LONG and VERY HARD!!! LOTS of word problems...
By far the best math teacher that I have ever had!
Professor Chell is by the THE BEST math teacher I have EVER had!! I loved her and wish I could have her for all of my math classes!!!!! If you don't understand something she will help you untill you get. ANd to the people who said she was annoying, WHATEVER!!! Would you reather have a dry professor with no personality at all??? I LOVED PROF. CHELL!
Her teaching style is ok but she asks for a lot of work. A whole lot of work.
She is not good teacher. She doesn't explain anything. She expects you to know everything. Gives home work everyday on math lab, 2 quizes a week, and tests atleast every 2 weeks! HORRIBLE TEACHER I DROPPED OUT AND SO DID OVER HALF MY CLASS! DO NOT TAKE HER!
I really don't know what to say. I feel like it's not all her fault, but the material being learned is way to fast. She has incredibly hard tests, I just dread this whole school experience this semester due to this class. Tests are hard, I don't want to be a mathmitician, just want to pass this class.
MAT011 & MAT012. You get out what you put in. Algebra is hard but Prof Chell makes it understandable. She really wants her students to be successful, but be prepared to work! Keep up with all work.
I took the 8 week summer hybrid MAT 012. it was very time consuming a LOT of work. At least 2 hours a day. But Chell is very helpful. She is willing to stay after class to help and come in on her off time for one on one.
I was going to take the MAT 012 hybrid class with her because I had her for a substitute and I really liked her; however, I dropped the class after reading the syllabus. She requires SO much work, it is absolutely insane. People have other classes to worry about and she does not consider that. Plus, if you miss 2 classes, she'll fail you.
worthless took the class failed it, she did not teach the stuff very good and her work was messed up too!
I loved her & wish I could have her for all of my math classes!!!!! She really wants her students to succeed in mathematics & will do as much as she can to help! Tests are long, but curved. Lots of online homework, but easy to get 100. Quizzes were online. She really wants her students to be successful, but be prepared to work!
She is the best teacher. She wants you to learn and really helps and explains it at your level. She is very easy and fair with grading and all the online work makes it impossible NOT to get 100%. Sometimes it is a lot of work, but every single question I do helps me learn more. If it wasnt for all the work I wouldnt learn it. Best teacher ever!!!
Be very careful when signing up for her class!I took her class on Tues and Thurs and she's one of a few math professor who do this online format. It basically where you teach yourself. She doesn't teach AT ALL! Everything is through mymathlab.com. If you can do math on your own then you'll be fine but if not, find another professor.
This class had too much work! In mat-011, my overall grade was a 98%, so I felt like I had a good chance of doing well. I could not keep up will all the work! I do have other classes...so I didn't pass. Now I have to take it over.
Very bad! Had to drop the class two weeks in because I could not keep up with the crazy amount of homework. I also tried to ask her for help and was basicly told to go find a tutor. Not fun at all! Run if you can!
overwhelming amount of homework, no teaching in class, all MML & DVD, several hundred questions Mon - Sat for HW, should take class alone, you are setup to fail from the start, if possible you should choose another Professor that spends more time teaching, expect !!!serious!!! eye strain from amount of time you will spend on computer
If math is hard for you, she can make it understandable. I would NOT take an online-only course; that's independent study. Hybrid is the way to go! Less class time, but all the homework is due on weekends and you know all the assignments ahead of time. The more problems you do, the more you understand, so be ready for homework. LOVED HER CLASS!
The best teacher! Took her hybrid class which means u do most of your learning at home & come to class with questions for her, she's very helpful. A LOT of work but all of it helps you to LEARN what you need to. She REALLY does care about her students. She is not my prof anymore and is helping me out with a problem I have with a dif prof. LOVE HER!
I ended up dropping her class. ENTIRELY TOO MUCH WORK! I mean she wants you to make your own index cards and do these little projects. In math class?? Umm I couldnt take it. I had 3 other HARDER classes so this one had to go. The material isnt that hard, but the work load takes about 4 hours a day to do. I dont have that kind of time.
I took this class hybrid. Big mistake you spend 3 hours with her once a week and the first 90 minutes is on a computer taking test. The next 90 minutes she answers any questions anybody has. She does not teach. Don't take this class hybrid
Withdrew, the amount of homework assigned was ridiculous. About 50% of the students dropped the class. Annoying beyond belief, cannot explain a concept easily to save her life. Kept sighing loudly and wondering what I was even doing in her class (because I was so stupid, you see), interrupts your studies constantly, emails you to the point of wan
I took College Algebra with Prof. Chell (Fall 08) as a hybrid. It had been many years since my last math class and she helped me get up to speed. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. Hybrid courses do require more independent study than traditional.
Very helpful hood teacher cares about your learning
When I signed up for, I was scared, I hated/feared math! And to make it worse, when I started the course I had major medical issues, so I missed tons of class. I think I went to class only ONCE for her hybrid. She was a GREAT teacher too!She explained things so well so I could understand! And mymathlab was easy to work with. She made me a math pro!
My class was online. It's not hard...if you don't have any other classes!! I had 16 credits and she assignments due every single night! and they were about 20-30 questions long! Plus a quiz due every sunday and a unit test every 3 weeks! She is nice, and very willing to help! Overall I wouldn't take her online class ever again!
VERY good professor. She wants you to learn, very helpful and clear. Gives WAY too much work though!!! Insane amount of hw and assignments. BUT they do makes you learn. If you can handle a ton of work, take her because you WILL learn and understand it.
Prof Chell is always willing to work with her students. I had this course online it was intense taking math online. Yet, I pulled through and completed the course of which I am very happy I did! Taking this course online is not as useful as classroom. In order to get the best experience with Prof Chell I recommend taking her class at the campus.
Such a great and friendly approach to the material. Will do anything to make sure that you, the student, leave the course with an understanding of the material at hand.
Took her online class. It's math, so there was a TON of work. chell is helpful and likes to write essays for emails; her syllabus was about 35 pages... Overall, I would take her again
Very helpful professor. Tons of work but it does help to understand better. Overall, a great math cause. I would take her again.
I took the computer intensive form of this class. This is my 3rd time taking this class, I hate math with a passion. The lecture version of this class was too much, I would always have to be at the rate of the smartest person and hated it. This class is all mymathlab you teach yourself and I'm going to get a B this semester. I would recommend it!
Prof. Chell is a very nice lady. However, if you want an A for the class, you basically have to teach yourself. If you read the text, do the study guides on time, and do the My Stat Lab assignments, then you'll do fine. I would not recommend her if you have a job, a tone of work, but if you do the work, you will get a good grade.
Talks down to you
Everything is online, with due dates throughout the week. If you need help she will insist that you come to her office during the day, (impossible if you work) or will advise you to take a math anxiety course they offer. Easier to do a weeks worth of work on the weekend.
Remedial math class. Much more time and effort required than I expected, but I learned a lot! Prof. Chell is helpful and fair. I would take one of her classes again.
this teacher was horrible!! the questions on the test arent even mentioned in the homework/classwork. if you ask a question via email she wants you to come to her office at the main campus instead of giving you an answer. she gives a ridiculous amount of homework. do not take this class if you work full time.
She was very helpful. A little unclear with the directions for the class. However, she stayed in contact with her students and always reminded us that she was there to help. Easy online course!
I've actually taken Professor Chell twice once online for a short summer semester and once for a hybrid class. She was amazing she's just super lengthy in her explanations online which can be rather annoying and distracting, but it's only because she genuinely cares about her students passing. I love her, deff do the work though and you'll be fine
Chell was extremely nice and expects you to email often as a participation grade for online courses. My major complaint is that the amount of work is INSANE. I've never had so much homework. If you miss one day you will be behind. Expect to log in and work 2-4 hours per day to stay caught up.
I think she is very smart when it comes to knowing math but communicating/teaching math she is horrible. I've taken harder math courses online that were communicated better. She just never gets to the point and drags on a topic which often left me more confused. I suspect this is why she never answers emails and says to meet after class.
Professor Chell really puts effort into making sure that her students understand what she teaches. She is willing to put in extra time outside of class, and her instructional style is a great pace for developmental math. I found her to be such a wonderful math instructor that I would only take 012 this semester if I could take it with her.
Professor Chell gets off topic a lot in class by giving random examples for everything... but it just shows her passion for math. She's very fair and understanding. A lot of work.
she talks too much
Though Chell has a passion for math, she does a horrific job at helping students with problems they are having and ends up either confusing them even more of making them feel bad for not knowing the answer. She also makes it sound that if you take more than 3 classes, you will not pass the courses and will urge you to drop. Not recommended
Awesome person, very caring, extremely knowledgeable, puts up with NO crap from anyone. Takes her job very serious. Although she is extremely knowledgeable about math she is as the other student described "horrific" at teaching it or explaining something. She gets totally off topic and when she's finished you will be even more confused.
not good
She's very into teaching Math you can tell she absolutely loves it, but she can get off topic a lot by relating it to something so off topic. It can get really tough for you if you are not good with math in general.
Prof. Chell has a passion for math. she can go off topic and does not take crap. She Cares alot and willing to help you one on one. She is a tough grader but gives points for explaining and trying.
For someone who cares so much about her students being organized, she does not seem to be. Never responded to email. Took long time to get grades back. Distracted from learning to go over examples not needed. Spent more time trying to be life coach than math professor
I had her for MAT037 and MAT137 while online. She is very nice and really love sher job and math. However the online course I feel like is more of the problem than her. You will be using MyMathLabMastering which has very long homework assignments. Her tests are very long but she always gives options for extra credit.
Great teacher really nice. Helps you when she is able to. Explains things multiple times if students need it. Will sit down with you (well now on a computer) and work stuff out.
Insanely dragged out lectures. Requires pictures of all notes and practice, quiz, test work. 3-4 hour long tests.
Not bad but if your up for a challenge then she's the one
This professor over complicates the course. Understanding the assignments due dates and course calendar is more challenging than the math. The first week there were 18 assignments due. Each week after that there has been 15-20 assignments due weekly. Plan to submit your notes on each section for credit.
All these bad reviews made me worried about Chell’s class I applied for. I tried to find another teacher but couldn’t with my schedule. I’m glad I didn’t! Chell is super nice and helpful. She’ll stay after a zoom session to help with any issues you have. She gives lots of extra credit. The course work is the issue, not her.
Nancy Chell is an amazing teacher. She offers lots of extra credit (within tests and to students who do something nice or answer questions) and will stay after a zoom session to help students out. The course is overly complicated, it's not her! Give her a chance, you won't regret it.
