BORING!! This was the most boring class that i have sat through. tests aren't too hard if you study good, in-class "quizzes"/attendance checks. Old tests are on reserve in library that is the only study guide available for tests. 2 papers and 3 bonuses.
I think she's cool...she encourages conversation...so class flies if you participate and you get a good grade just from throwing in your ideas. Tests are easy...just take the notes that she VERY obviously wants you to know.
She is pretty easy if you read the chapters and take notes on the examples she uses, because you can use the examples on the essay part of the test.
She goes off on different subject all the time. But she's not that hard of a teacher as long as you pay attention and take notes
Explains things very clearly. Enjoys teaching. Make sure to turn in bonus work because you may need the points.
I feel that Dr. Nancy Malcom is **** and she doesn't make her students feel that she is there to help them. She also makes her students feel that no matter how hard they work, nothing is ever good enough. I would never take this teacher again. She is no good and her classes are extremely boring.
She doesn't treat everybody equally
This professor is a total a**hole. Her class is a joke and she doesn't care about any of her students. If you don't have to take her then DON'T. She is really crazy with her grading and what she looks for in class discussions
I don't know what all those bad comments are about, she's very sweet to her students and as long as you do the work and bonuses and go to class you'll be fine. I had her for intro to sociology and liked her class so much I took her soc of childhood class this semester. Compared to the other profs that teach sociology, you'll be getting off easy
Dr. Malcom is a true asset to Georgia Southern. Chances are, if you're majoring in Soci, you'll have at least one of her courses. The workload and course material may be challenging, but her door is always open to students. Do the readings, take the assignments seriously and study your notes...it's easy to earn an A when you try.
funny and east to listen to.
Very great professor. she tends to go on and on about topics..so it will more than likely get stuck in your head. We had one book to read, 2 short papers, 3 tests, a final, and some easy assignments. she gives TONS of extra credit. her test are challenging, but extra credit makes up for that if your not good at taking her tests. highly recomendher
Needs to be fired horrible at creating examples to keep materials in your head if u have a chance to not take her do it!
I took a Sociology class in high school and I felt like my previous Soci. class was far more engaging and interesting. I like Dr. Malcolm as a person, but she tends to on and on about a subject and I lose interest in the lesson when she drags it out! All in all, the class isn't too bad. Read the books she assigns and go to class for mini quizzes!
Really good intro teacher, keeps things simple.
this class is so easy that someone would have to be a complete and total idiot to not make an A! she explains everything really well, plus the information is not hard to understand by any means.
acts like we are in kindergarten and explains everything so simply- and then tests over information that she never covers and grades essays so hard. plus makes you read a stupid book that i would rather light on fire than ever look at again.
The class is completely useless. She isn't a bad teacher but she doesn't tell us whats on the tests and just seems to put random crap on them, so its pretty hard to get an A on any of them. You have to write a paper on a novel and she has clickers so you have to come to class. If you need a social science take psychology and not this.
Dr. Malcom's class is easy. Take notes, skim through the reading, and do the practice tests and you should make an A. Go to class because she gives you points for answering questions with the clicker. Some of the questions on the tests are a little tricky, but don't second guess yourself. Do all the work (which is not much) and you can get an A.
The class is called Sports, Culture, & Society. Sounds like boatloads of fun right? WRONG! She's funny but she grades SO hard and she's a smart ass. She posts little notes in class but expects us to memorize every freaking detail. Thought this class was an easy A, boy was I wrong.
Took Social Problems online, do not recommend.Assigned to write on the discussion board, yet there was no feedback or discussions about topic. She expects you to parrot her own beliefs on the subject, and grades harshly if you do not. Learned nothing and was not challenged.
Dr. Malcolm is a really sweet lady. Class was boring but not too bad. She's pretty easy, gives extra credit for turning assignments in early. Tests are cumulative, so kinda tricky. She always got headlights in class, which was awkward but made class entertaining.
I loved this professor. She's really funny and makes the subject interesting. Only a few assignments throughout the semester, but daily grades every day using clickers. The tests are kind of difficult, but as long as you study and show up to class, you will make a good grade. She also offers make up tests and is very helpful.
The most boring and repetitive professor I've had so far at southern. She goes on (unenthusiastic) rants about stuff that has nothing to do with sociology or the tests. She insults the students' intelligence by beating topics to death. I was really excited to take sociology, but by the 2nd week I was dreading going to her class.
Class is boring, but you need to go because she goes over the reading assignments in class and she take attendance. Important to participate in the discussion, she is funny though sometimes goes off topic. Very helpful ask lots of questions!!!! She will help you!!
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! WORST teacher I have ever had. I absolutely loved sociology before I took this class and she has made me hate it. She talks in circles and rants about the most unimportant things. The pace is painfully slow and you HAVE to go to class everyday. Tests are hard because it's so hard to retain information from lectures.
This teacher is extremely easy. She offers so much extra credit and puts her past exams online. She is definitely boring and can be difficult to listen to but if you put effort into studying it is very easy to make an A. Go to class because she takes attendance using clicker points.
She repeats stuff over and over all semester. She uses clickers to take attendance. You better go to class because I missed some days and my clicker grades & test grades went waaay down. Some of the stuff is easy. The tests are cumulative which is actually really hard. Some stuff is easy.Sometimes if you ask her a question she gets a smart attitude
Her classes can be a little challenging but far from difficult. If you take good notes and read the textbook you will do fine. Attendance is pretty much required because she uses iClicker questions daily. Makes you read a very long novel but only requires a short paper about it..
She is very nice and helpful if you need it. However, the test are what KILLED my grade!Do your bonus opportunities, because it can make the difference at the end of the semester
She is extremely enthusiastic. She says things to get you thinking and class is almost always interesting. However, she does go on and on about things that aren't really important and she jumps around from topic to topic and its confusing, especially when its time for the test. easy extra credit ops and she WANTS you to pass. take her.
She is a fun teacher but sometimes she does talk forever. Tests are exactly from PowerPoint notes. I recommend taking her!!!!
She talks FOREVER but shes likes to play "the devil's advocate" a lot. Her tests are come from the notes. She gives TONS of extra credit. And go to class because the iClicker points are essential and can make or break you from getting an A or at least a B. Other than that an easy teacher and class.
Honestly this class may be the easiest class I've ever taken, Dr. Malcom is a great professor and as long as you attend class and fill out the outlines, you easily have an A... coming from a guy who sat on Twitter and Instagram for most of her lectures
You have to put A LOT into this class to do well. Go to class & take notes & write down clicker questions (test questions & attendance points). Previous tests online to use to study but exams are cumulative so it adds up to be a lot of information. If you have the time and motivation, it could be easy, if not consider a different teacher or class.
Dr. Malcom insists on doing a PowerPoint every.single.day. She is boring, repteitive, and tedious, and she says many controversial things that were hard to keep quiet about. Overall, if you can get past how WEIRD she is, I would recommend the class because of the relatively easy content and loads of extra credit.
Dr. Malcom is extremely funny and nice but she is a very harsh grader. You can work your butt off and think you're gonna get an A and she'll give you a low C
Extremely easy. She makes sociology interesting, and I had no interest in it before taking the class. As long as you go most of the time, get a clicker, and do the few easy assignments, you'll easily pass. Plus I got As on all the tests. It's not hard AT ALL.
She's a quirky and fun lady! Her lectures were entertaining and her assignments were short and easy. Tests tended to be a little harder, but with studying you can pass. She takes attendance through clickers which was actually really fun. She definitely made learning about sociology engaging and enjoyable.
one of the easiest proffesors ive had. she offers a lot of extra credit i got over an 100% as my final grade and I didnt work that hard
There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit and she posts the old tests online, so studying is pretty simple. However, class is pretty boring because she rambles and kinda veers off topic. She is really nice and willing to help though. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you get clicker points that help your grade.
The class is based around readings and summaries. You have readings due basically every class and you have to write summaries for each. There isnt really a lecture, but more of a discussion on the readings. Some articles are long some arent. Come to class and take notes and you should be okay. Sometimes she can go off topic.
Professor Malcom's class is boring. Her tests are confusing. I failed every one with a low D and also failed the final. The only thing that kept me from failing the class was her concept pictures and writing assignments. Do these and click in for attendance and you will pass the class.
Her lectures were beyond boring that I barely paid attention. Go to class! She uses the iclickers daily. Her tests are confusing because they seem easy but then more than half the class failed one and she didn't care. It's not the easy A that I thought especially being a core class. Go to class, take notes, study, do assignments.
Great professor. Her lectures were interesting and she was hilarious. The essays were only 1 page and she wasn't tough on grading. Going to class helps a lot but not mandatory. Study for her tests; tough but mostly multiple choice and offers extra credit. Not a difficult class at all. Highly recommend!
Her class was relatively easy. I was expecting an easy A, although I would have gotten one if I tried a little harder. Attendance was not mandatory but highly recommended. Clicker questions boosted your grade up. A lot of extra credit. You can fail all her exams and still pass the class.
Dr. Malcom's class is an easy A if you show up to get your clicker points, turn in the one-page essays and concept photo assignments on folio early for extra credit (she'll drop your lowest scores). Tests are tough if you don't show up for class, but she drops your lowest test score anyway.
Dr. Malcom is awful. Just legit the most boring professor ever. She goes on and on about useless stuff and over explains things to the point that the easiest concepts become confusing. She drops your lowest everything, so if you show up everyday for clicker points and do well in everything else, you can finish the class early with an A. Easy A.
Class is pretty easy but the lectures are boring. make sure you bring a jacket to class its like a meat locker in there. She drops the lowest test scores and drops two of the lowest writing assignments/concept pictures which are super easy to begin with. She gives out loads of extra credit just make sure you have the iClicker on the first day.
Took her for Intro to Sociology and the class was easy. She gives roughly 6 assignments for Writing, and something call CP. However, she only takes the top 3 scores and drops the rest. Same for exams. Its 4 exams and she drop your lowest one. Ended up passing every assignment the first 3 times and didnt have to take the final and got an A.
Class was easy, if you did the assigned readings, which there were NOT a lot of, and if you got confused she would clarify it for you. She is just a bit intimidating at first, but she will relax and warm up to good students.
Show up do the assignments and your more than halfway to an A. Do well on the first couple tests because they get harder as you go on. All the old tests are on folio and if you study those you cant fail. I did all the above and didn't have to show up for the last quarter of the semester because she drops the lowest test and assignment grades.
If you show up to class, put in good effort on the easy writing assignments, and study the old tests online then this class will be a breeze.
GO TO CLASS. You have to read a couple of articles that she supplies (you don't have to buy a textbook for the course) every night before class, and that's what her lectures are over. You need to do 30/57 summaries of those articles, but most of them don't exceed 10 pages. She's super open-minded, which is what you want in a SOCI prof. Loved it!
This is literally the most boring course I have ever taken. Dr. Malcom drones on and on about useless, irrelevant ideas. Her lecture outlines are useless with out going to class. Avoid her if you can. Her tests are relatively easy and the other assignments are easy A's.
Easiest class at Georgia Southern. All you have to do is sho up to class and listen to her lectures and she makes the whole class make sense. Sociology can be hard but she made it easy. I didn't even have to take the final because my I had enough points in the class to get an A. Show up and do the clickers its like half your grade.
Dr. Malcom's class is super easy as long as you show up and listen to her lectures (which can be repetitive and boring). If you're happy with your first 3 exam scores, you don't have to take the final. You also have to do 3 short essays (1 page long) and 3 concept picture assignments. Just review the practice tests online and you'll pass the exams.
Tests get harder but do all the (very easy) homework and you can pass the class easily with a good grade. Take good notes and study the old exams she provides!
She's ok if you have no other option, but she's kinda strange. Very absent-minded and goes off on tangents often. Tests are hard, she posts past exams but without the answers so you don't even know if you're studying the right things. A bunch of assignments. Outlined notes posted to folio, follow along with these in class. iClicker required.
As long as you go to class, pay attention, and take notes you'll be fine! She's funny and tries to make the lessons relevant to the students. Plus she's always willing to meet up with students, meet them, and help them out.
She has clicker questions every class and it will really add up if you miss a bunch of classes. You'll think it won't matter but you won't pass if you don't take notes. She even has questions on the test about the videos in class. It's overall a really boring class but take it kinda serious even if you don't want to
Dr. Nancy is great. She knows the material well and stresses certain points extensively. She is pretty entertaining and caring, and loves her field. The first month of the class is slow, but you will really enjoy the last month or so, I did. She gives multiple opportunities to do well. If someone failed, it was truly their fault. Take her!
Great teacher, lots of fun moments in lecture that she tries to create. 3 tests, optional final if your grade is high enough. Drops lots of the lowest assignment grades too. Clickers, so go to class. One of those go to class get an easy A with no studying, skip class you'll do bad kind. I hardly studied, still got an A.
Professor Malcom's class was the hardest Intro level class I have ever taken. In a lecture class of 191 students, on the last cumulative test before the final, only 10 students got A's. 144 students got C's or lower and 63 failed. She's very all over the place when it comes to lectures. Don't skip class because there are Clicker questions daily.
Take her! She uses iclicker though so you need to go to class to get these points (easy points that ADD up, so go to class). She posts all her old exams on folio and they are extremely similar to the exams you take so LOOK at them!! She drops a few grades so do well in the beginning and you'll be done before the semester even ends
To get straight to the point, Dr. Malcom is boring, but this can be an easy course if you go to class and take good notes. A textbook is NOT required. She drops several of your lowest grades and gives iClicker points, which do add up!!! The exams are cumulative, but she does provide her old exams on Folio, which is a big help when studying.
This was my least stressful class of the semester. I didn't mind the lectures dragging on since the class was easy to pass. She rewards extra credit on every assignment if turned in early, which add up quickly, allowing me to play on my phone for lectures towards the end of the semester. The final is optional if you're happy with the 3 other exams.
I would definitely take again
Dr. Malcom knows what she is talking about. she makes class fun and entertaining. she also drops two of your lowest grades on papers. i love her class!!
Great class! She really gives students an opportunity to make an A+. She drops a lot of grades, including one exam. And awards extra credit for turning assignments in early. As long as you show up to class, take notes, listen in lecture, turn in the assignments on time and study, there's no reason you shouldn't pass.
50 readings, 30 taking for a grade. Every class there are readings due. Test are ESSAY base. For exams, out of the 20 readings for exam only 8-10 are on the exam. 3 paper assignments, tough grader. Lectures are LECTURE! Student athletes (football) dont take.
you get bonus points for turning assignments in early, she drops a bunch of grades including an exam, she uses the iclicker which is easy points. Her lectures get draggy towards the end of the semester, but she tries to make it interesting. Easy A if you do the work, take notes, and come to class.
Dr. Malcom is incredibly intelligent, and sweet too. That said, once her class gets moving, it doesn't slow down! Tests are cumulative, and can be pretty difficult if you haven't studied. She's glad to help out in any way she can, but it's on you to make the grade.
Get ready to read and discuss daily
Dr. Malcom is very invested in this subject. Class consists of discussions over articles we are expected to read every night. You really learn a lot in this class and it is very interesting. A lot of reading and reading summaries and the tests are all based on the readies as well. Not too bad once you get used to it.
Professor Malcom was pretty good. She gave out extra credit for turning in assignments early, and she only counts the highest 3 or 4 grades, including the exams. However, her lectures were kind of boring. She had a tendency to go on tangents, so a lot of the information was repeated. As long as you take notes, you likely wont need the textbook.
She's very passionate about sociology. She will talk about it all class and she gets VERY angry if you talk or interrupt her class. Also, she doesn't "take" attendance but she does by clicker questions, so make sure you come to class as much as you can. Do your CP and writing assignments days early so you can get your extra points.
I loved her class. She is so funny and willing to work with you. There are plenty of chances for you to get extra credit or replace assignments. She also keeps the textbook on reserve at the library so you dont need to buy one, seeing as it was rarely used. She does do clicker points, so you have to go to class.
Easiest class I had this semester. she accepts highest 3 test scores, highest 3 paper scores, etc. So I didn't have to take the final and I didn't show up for the last 3 weeks of class and ended up with a 96. If you turn in your papers (only 1 page each) early, you get extra credit, same with everything else.
Loved this class. She takes your top 3 exam scores so if you do well you can be exempt from the final. iClicker questions are just about every class and a % of your grade so I strongly recommend getting one for this class. Her lectures can be boring but she teaches the matieral very well and she posts old exams online for you to study-very helpful!
Around 50+ readings for semester. 30 required reading summaries, 2 papers. 3 Blue book exams. Tough grader. Lectures entire period. No extra credit.
Professor Malcom is an entertaining and passionate teacher. She really cares about the content and wants you to learn. For this class, there was no textbook, but there were several readings summaries we had to complete. The tests are all written-answer, but she provides extra credit and drops your lowest reading summaries. Would highly recommend.
She is definitely one of those professors that will point you out in class and will wait until she gets a response from the class to keep going with the lecture. She also lectures exactly up to the last minute of class. She tries to make class interesting.
Malcom was an amazing professor to have for this entry-level course. She is passionate about what she teaches and uses examples in class that are actually interesting. There are 4 tests she drops the lowest score, there are 6 paper options she takes the top two, there are five concept pictures she counts 2 of them. Pretty much everything is dropped
Easy class! Lowest exam dropped, 6 mini writing assigments (1 page double spaced)- only 2 count 4 concept picture assignments- only 2 count I recommend going to class she goes over quiz questions and literally 99% of them are on the quizzes/exams Only complaint is that she rambles sometimes
It should be an Easy A class, but she purposely wants to make it hard for students. She's not understanding. She's just a mean word I will not say. Do not take her class. She should quit.
Shes really nice, she talks a lot and I feel like she gets off topic but other than that shes nice
She was alright. Very lecture heavy and they get boring after awhile but you can tell she knows what she's talking about and she's passionate about it. She just talks a lot. The power points are all posted, though. She gives opportunities for you to make up assignments, and if you do well on the first three exams, you don't even need the final.
Very nice professor. Lectures aren't the most interesting. Lowest exam gets dropped. Would rate higher but quizzes and exams are extremely difficult. Almost all of the questions are application based, so you not only need to know them, but also understand. Would not recommend if you're looking for an easy A. Always have to be ready
All assignments are online and she encourages you to find the answers using notes or google. Attendance counts but she doesn't post her slides and the questions she uses on tests/quizzes are shown a lot in class as example questions. She does a great job at actually teaching sociology and about the world instead of pushing some crazy agenda.
