Mean bully. Hard. Avoid her she cracks that whip!
She may not seem nice, but she definetly knows what she is talkin' about.
Punishes the entire class for other people who come to class late
Very hard, but knows her stuff.
Her study guides are too vague. Don't expect any leniency. She's a HORRIBLE lecturer. I got more stories out of her than knowledge.
My friend and I used to refer to this scag as "f'in **** Nancy Mann." This axe wound is one mean juanita. Knows her****- but will bust your balls if you get on her bad side.
She knows her stuff, but is not very coherent. Tests are hard hard hard. But somehow I escaped with a B.
Hard, unfair teacher. Would not recommend
Hard class, but fascinating. Tests/homework are a b*tch. Expects you to do a ridiculous amount of work. She really knows her stuff and is sometimes hilarious, but she can come across as a scary meanie.
I thought she was great, although I could see how she rubs others the wrong way. If you're not a serious student, stay away from her class. She's the best preparation for those who plan on transferring into the UC system. I loved that she made an example of latecomers. Don't waste her time!

Fantastic class. One of the most challenging and enjoyable. Nancy Mann was passionate and a great teacher.
RUN AWAY!
she can suck it... she spends so much time on format, she hardly gets to any substance in her lecture... basically, a big pain in the rear
She's Psycho
Nancy Mann is one of few excellent teachers I've had. If people don't like her, it's because she's tough, but you will learn so much from her. Her classes are the reason I went into the science field. She'll make you work, but now 15 years later, I still remember things I learned in that class.
hate this teacher, goes off bout her life in class and doesnt make anything clear in her teaching!
She is possibly the worst professor i have ever had. Has absolutely no leniency for anything. Her lectures are a complete waste of time, there is no outline to them. She rambles about the subject and jumps to vaguely related stories. Oh, and she loves her dogs way too much. I honestly learned more skimming through the text book than sitting through her lectures. And the study guides/homework is basically a scavenger hunt through the book and any lecture notes you were able to comprehend from her babbling.

She's crazy! She's funny but insane. Her tests are alright, just a lot of information to remember. She's kind of intimidating so she's not the best if you need help. Definitely only take her if you have to.
Look out! It's the biology nazi!
Soooo hard! pointless lectures and rediculous tests. a midterm and a final. crazy! way too much info for one test.
I think ur class is awesome, i am very interested in what you have to say every time come into the room, thank you for the oppurtnity to enjoy my college experience in school!!!
do not take this teacher!!!she is horrible. she isnt clear with her lectures, and her notes on the board are a joke. i midterm, 4 quizzes, and a final. if you registered for her class....drop a.s.a.p
I took this class with a friend and still didnt do well. She is horrible dont expect one clear lecture or homework. She is not straight forward or interesting
She's tough, but that's from having to deal with nit-wits so much. If you follow directions well, she'd great! Knowledgable and interesting.
She really packs the info, you will learn a great deal and in a different way, her way! I think she's very passionate about her subject. Demands respect and doesn't always get it from some jerks in the class. I loved her class.
Anyone who says that Mann is awful, etc... is spineless. What an awesome class... I am not a science major, but her laidback, and often funny, lectures made the subject really enjoyable. She is very strict about hw, etc. but if you're at all intelligent you'll catch on quick and do well. Challenging, intellectual, great way to get that bio credit.
Her class is hard, but what can you expect in college? I think she's 'over it'.. Way too smart for a junior college. Maybe she's lost the passion? Nevertheless, nice and funny lady who knows her****!
Hard class, unclear lectures, impossible tests. Lecture objectives minimally help to prepare for a test. Review she does for test practically pointless, because she puts whatever on the tests. Expects you to know every bit of information in book, lecture, labs and then some. Already a hard class and subject, which she manages to make even harder.
Lectures are fairly interesting, she is passionate about her subject. However, homeworks set you up to fail, same as tests. Most people in the class did not like her
Very knowledgable, makes you earn grade which is important depending on your field. Knows her stuff.
I learned a lot, you cannot miss class, there is too much information. Lots if neat slides and presentation.
Nancy Mann is a great teacher and really cares about her subject. She has been all over the world and has interesting antidotes. Have to pay attention.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! By far the worst teacher at Cuesta! All these other people that are saying she is a good teacher are seriously trippin!!! She likes to openly embarrass people in class and makes them feel stupid while she thinks she's hilarious! She is a miserable person and an impossible teacher!
Worst teacher at Cuesta. I have 80+ units with a 3.7 GPA and I strongly advise you not to take her. Her tests and homework include material not covered in lectures, labs or the book. She is a miserable human being who enjoys seeing her students fail and embarassing them whenever she can. She is disgusting and pathetic. AVOID HER.
The only reason people give bad ratings about this teacher is because they are the students she embarrasses! If you read what she tells you and ask questions you will do well! Very informative teacher that isn't afraid to tell you like it is!
she's a great teacher. she'll go off topic every once in a while but it's a actually good since most of the stuff is funny. she'll answer questions to her knowledge, and admit she's wrong. great teacher, wait till about halfway thru the semester cause she really wants to filter out the slackers.
I took a class from this professor years ago. What I took from that class is that I would turn One Billion seconds old sometime in my 38th year on this planet. Well, that is not right!! I missed it, it happened when I was 31!! Shame on you, Nancy Mann!!
Nancy Mann knows a lot about biology, but she is a miserable human being. Work with others on homework(if you have a friend TAKE THE CLASS TOGETHER) and constantly check the website. I am warning you, she is tricky! You can easily pass her class. Keep your mouth shut!!! Her tests are impossible, the key is the homework and her xtra credit. gl!
She's great. Quite honestly one of my two favorite teachers I've ever had. She's awesome. Don't be scared. If you take her serious, she takes you serious. No big whoop.
I know some people dont like her but she made me want to work harder and not give up. I learned a lot in this class and found myself answering peoples questions. I did not get a high grade but she made me not give up and that is hard to find. Just work hard and give it your all and you will do well.
Mann is funny and interesting. Her class is challenging and exciting.
it is impossible to get an A in her class. She is the most DISORGANIZED teacher I have ever met. She goes off on tangents during the lecture all the time. Heavy use of book and your own learning. She is emotional and will make tests hard or easy depending on her mood. She'll take points off for any and ALL mistakes. Not easy at all.
Mann is crazy. She is pretty scatterbrained and hypocritical. She likes to punish students rather than help them succeed. Heavy, heavy use of book and very little teaching. During class time she just rambles about her life stories, rather than teach the material.
She is the most disorganized teacher I've had. Her lectures don't help at all. One day we had a former student of hers teach as a sub and he was a 1000 times better and he hasn't even got a teaching credential and he hadn't got the lecture notes until that morning. Don't get me wrong, she is a super cool person. She is a bad teacher, though.
Nancy is really cool. She has developed a ton of knowledge, and struck me as a being a genuine biologist who loves biology. The class is difficult. It requires juggling of learning the concepts within hundreds of pages of the fatty bio text prior to each exam, studying for lecture exams, studying for lab practicums, doing the homework, and attendin
You need to stay on top of things in this class. Nancy is a pretty good lady, but she has her days. Follow her rules and you'll be fine. Lots of homework, but they are all done on scantrons and you usually have at least a week to work on them, if not two or three. Tests-scantron. She talks a lot about real life stuff which is cool. Not for slackers!
I think Nancy is an okay person, but she was not meant to teach. Nancy is incredibly disorganized and you never know what you should be reading or what you will be doing in class. And she will assign work on Sunday nights and expect it to be completed by Monday.
I had her for Human Bioolgy in Spring 2011 on the SLO Campus. I wouldn't wish this teacher on my worst enemy. She's mean, and older than God. She won't answer questions. What a waste of Cuesta's (And OUR) money when there are so many teachers trying to get a job.
She doesn't like to answer your questions and goes completely off topic ALL THE TIME! I didn't understand half of what she said!
she knows what she's talking about but is probably the most mean, hateful person, and biggest bully I've ever met. you know more about her personal life than you do the subject matter. highly inappropriate vulgar, and too politically opinionated for a professor in a classroom. expects you to know everything and seems impatient and frustrated when you ask her a question about tests, etc. overall, of you need to take her class, choose another professor or put it off as long as possible.
Nancy knows her stuff. She's hard as nails in class, meaning, she has strict rules and demands respect. All of the homework is take home out of the book or from lectures, so you have to pay attention and take notes to do well. Quiz's are super easy. She's awesome about extra credit and an easy A if you do the work.
imagine being prepared for a four-year university. that's what this teacher will do for you. get past her tough exterior & you will find a passionate/caring individual who is excited with her students' success. y'all aren't in high school anymore. be ready to work hard and stay engaged. are you there to learn or to earn easy As? time to grow up.
She was one of the best proffs I've ever had. I stake my rep on it.
She definitely knows her stuff. shes usually clear on what she wants you to know and she goes over things on the board. she is oppinionated and does get off topic but her stories are pretty funny. just attend class and take notes and youll pass.
literally the worst teacher i've ever had. ive been stuck at cuesta college for 4 years as a bio major and was unfortunate enough to take her for both human bio and environmental bio. she single handedly made me an entire year behind schedule for transfer. horrible woman. avoid her classes like the plague.
Her class is an actual college course, not a prerequisite to transfer or highschoolesque easy A bs. She comes off as a hard ass (maybe even mean) at first. She's actually a great professor and seems like a truly good person if you talk 1 on 1. If your a student you'll like her. If ur just a "student" or one of them silly geese then you wont; at all
Tough but fair teacher. She likes to keep people in line in her class, so if you like to goof off or gab you won't like her. But she is a great teacher and she will work to help you as long as you ask and are willing to do the work assigned.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Heavy use of the book, and she goes off topic a lot. If you do well on orals and do OK on the tests, you'll pass..but make sure you study hard. Anatomy is a hard class for sure.
Read the text. Spend hours studying and learning the material. She is not a mean person. She has a tough exterior but a lovely lady on the inside. You have to want to learn this stuff to succeed. IF you do NOT love it then switch majors. She prepares you VERY well for a 4-year. Think about your future do NOT avoid tough classes b/c your lazy.
Mann is a great teacher. I don't think she's mean; she's actually quite funny. I enjoyed her class, yes, it was tough, science classes are tough. She'll get mad at you if you talk while she's talking but that's to be expected, chatting during lecture is rude, why even bother going to class?
Such a funny teacher! She made the 2 hour class more enjoyable by bringing a sense of humor to it. The tests were a little bit hard, but I also could have studied harder for them. The oral tests were much easier for me, I actually really enjoyed them and being in the AT lab. Everyone is so nice and helpful in there, it's like a little BIO community
This was by far one of the most memorable professors I had in my college career. Nancy changed my life and my perspective. This is NOT an easy prof but you WILL earn your grade. She is a GEM!
Congratulations. You are about to take a class with a teacher who knows how to do just that- teach. Nancy Mann is a delight. She loves her subject, and though she might seem abrupt (hey, managing a class that size isn't easy), she cares about her students. The textbook is great- I still read it sometimes.
Anatomy is simply not a subject that can be covered much in a once a week 2-hour lecture. That being said, Mann is not a very good instructor in my opinion- goes off on tangents, has a wry sort of sense of humor, and her coverage of the material is somewhat sporadic. You'll be teaching yourself the material, but that's how anatomy is. Memorization!
Nancy Mann is the rudest teacher I've ever met. She takes pleasure in humiliating her students and has not changed her homework in over 10 years. Do not plan on relying on her lectures for your homework, you NEED your book, homework takes FOREVER and if anyone talks during a quiz, everyone fails. Final was easy though.
Yes, she relies heavily on the textbook, and she has a "rough" attitude. That being said I still enjoyed her class. I thought her lectures were interesting, and I liked her personal anecdotes. Hw and the final are not as hard as others make it out to be. Also, you will find she's more helpful when she sees you actually engaged in class.
Mann is a helpful genuine professor. Her class is a bit difficult but she is straight forward if you do the Homework and follow study guides you will do good in the class. Final was easy. She gives you the final study guide months in advance. You need to stay on top of things for sure in this class if you slack you will easily get behind.
Brutal! Her teaching methods were very confusing. I wouldn't recommend taking a any class from her. She hates teaching non-majors and she lets you know it.
This human anatomy class we really fun yet very challenging. Lectures were very helpful and were broken up with her crazy storries. As long as you put in a lot of hours you'll do well.
Terrible! This professor is the worst that I have had at Cuesta, and my GPA suffered because of her horrible teaching style. Very unclear with assignments and extremely harsh grading. Maybe she is having a rough semester but I would definitely not recommend her.
I think Mann is an awesome teacher-! The way she teaches makes you stay on track. Her hw's & tests weren't hard at all! It all depends on how much you studied & paid attention. I would most def. recommend Mann I loved her class it was so interesting!
rude rude rude ! makes fun of students! very hard teacher.
Professor mann has temper outbursts and totally uncalled for rudeness to students, with the exception of students who she thinks are her "buddies", and whom she could possibly manipulate. Basically if you want a good grade from her you need to kiss her ass.
Prof. Mann knows her stuff! She is very strict so you gotta be in class and on time. Her tangent stories usually do tie back into what she is teaching if you listen. This class gives you what you put into it. I recommend her class any day!
She requires for her students to only put their "Last Name, First Initial," well one day I forgot that and put my entire first name, so she called me out in front of the entire auditorium class and told me, "I don't care what your name is, don't make that mistake again or you're losing points." She is rude, and doesn't care about her students.
Awesome lady, just seems to be overwhelmed at times and disorganized. Lectures are very broad and off topic. She is VERY strict on her attendance and methods in which you take tests and submit homework since its all done on scantrons. She's good for extra credit, but the tests are tough and her study guides are super-vague. I learned alot though.
I absolutely loved Nancy as a professor and she is my favorite professor on campus. The class is hard work but if you go to class and do the homework it's rewarding. She's super open if you bring the homework into class before the day it's due to ask questions. She likes when kids speak up and ask questions which I found to be the best way to learn
I really enjoyed having professor Mann as a biology teacher. She is not a tough teacher, she just gives directions that she expects you to follow. Participation definitely matters. I could see how she could rub someone the wrong way, but she means well at the end of the day. Hilarious to listen to during lectures. loves to tell her life stories.
She was very rough in the beginning but only to weed out the ones that would drop out. She doesn't bend you have to work and figure out what she wants. She is an old style of teaching and I respected her for that. Her class notes are amazing so don't miss out on those.
Nancy is awesome! I enjoyed her class so much and if you are a Bio major you shouldn't be complaining about the work she requires you to do. You chose this major and if you're not ready to work hard for your Bachelors degree in Bio and move forward with your education then you're a whimp! You have to live in the Bio lab if you want to earn an A!
One of the bests teachers I've had at cuesta, just show up everyday do your work, do some more work and you'll earn the grade you want. She gives countless opportunities to help raise your grade like extra credit on every lab test and exams. She is so nice and really cares about students as long as they care too!
Nancy quickly became one of my favorite professors at Cuesta. If you put in the effort in class and on the home works you can easily pass. She is super friendly and is more than willing to help you pass the class. I would definitely recommend her!
Human biology is a tough class. Weekly homework and several tests. Study groups help. Attendence is important as she will cover big portion of what's in HW. She will help with HW questions during office hours and class time if its not due that day. She is passionate about science. She does not put up with BS in class and occasionally abrupt. Great!
SLACKERS BEWARE: she will make you look like idiot if you are being idiot i.e texting or sleeping in class. Nancy's lectures are clear and to the point, she adds in her own stories or facts to make what she is teaching relevant. She is tough but fair. If you need help on the homework or quiz she will help you out.
she simply goes over it assuming you already know it. The exams are hard and require countless hours of studying! Not to mention the essay questions, she grades them as if she was answering the Q. No procrastination!! Get the Orals done prior to the exam. If you can spend countless hours studying for this class than you will receive a high grade.
Nancy is one of the few teachers I've had whose tangents are ALL applicable to the lecture material at hand. If you need/want help, you will get it. She is very clear with what she wants, and does an amazing job of maintaining class order, while making the subject as digestible as possible. An amazing human being.
Bottom line; Professor Mann does not tolerate laziness. For those who are willing to work and have a desire to learn, she is wonderful! I would recommend her to any serious student.
She's an okay professor. Her class is the reason why I decided to change my major though. If you don't like biology, you're not going to like this class at all. As a professor, she knows a lot about biology and is really passionate. She's patient and funny and if you ever need help, just go to her office hours.
Professor Mann is a no nonsense teacher. You MUST do the homework if you want to pass the class. Don't skip class, you will miss points you will not be able to make up. Her lectures are always filled with real life stories and are for the most part hilarious. She wants you to succeed, so she is always there to help.
Professor Mann is an excellent teacher and makes her expectations for the class known. If you are not motivated, lazy, or just unwilling to make this class a priority, you will not do well. Get a study group, complete the study guide, and go to office hours, and you will pass. Dedicate 10-15+ quality hours a week and you might get an A.
I wasn't sure about Nancy during the first few weeks of class, she definitely tries to weed out non-serious students. If you are unwilling to work for your grade do not take this class. Make anatomy your life. Nancy is helpful and passionate, one of my favorite professors. Ended up with an A that I earned for sure. The lab will be your new home.
Nancy is a hilarious person and she knows a lot about what she teaches, the only downside is that she can stray from the topic a lot. Somehow we went from hormones to a trip she took through the Panama Canal and that's how she got the taste for a certain alcohol... I'm not making that up. She is very personable and willing to help.
She seems scary at first, but she's actually quite funny. I feel like I don't really learn anything in the lectures but if you aren't there, she knows. Homework is graded for correctness and get ready to spend $$$ on her special scantrons!
She seems really scary at first but she is actually the most interesting person you will ever meet. She only grades off accuracy of the homeworks and few quizzes. The content is difficult but if you study you'll be okay. Get ready for really weird stories and comments from her.
This professor goes off topic during lecture about personal stories and barely does any anatomy lecture. The lecture is all over the place and if you want a good grade you are going to have to read the textbook and teach yourself.
