This is the worst teacher i have ever had. She made me hate english. She does not explain topics well and class lectures put me to sleep, which resulted in me leaving class early many times or not coming at all. She grades hard, and if you get on her bad side grading is even harder for you. Dont take this class with her as your teacher.
Take her for english. Easy A.
I had Ms Mcgee for an online compositin class. She was very pleasant, helpful and it wasn't too hard to get an A in the class. I highly recommend taking any online course she teaches!
I took Dr. McGees online class this summer. I really enjoyed it. She always answered emails, and participated in discussion boards. I am surprised about the bad review below. I really enjoyed her. I will be taking a class with her on campus next semester.
I had a grat time in her class. I found her to be very helpful, answer questions promptly, and be respectful when pointing out faults in your work. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a professor with a very positive attitude.
Horable. She gave a B- for just one grammar error. Plus she marked me down because she did not agree with my opions. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Worst teacher I have ever had, she made me hate english. Not only is she boring, skips around on every subject, but I am falling asleep. I highly reccomend not taking this class with this teacher.
Took her online. very easy. easy A.
I took her online course. She was very helpful and nice. I normally hate english classes, but I got through this one just fine.
DR. MCGEE IS NOT FAIR IN HER GRADING AND SHE WILL SINGLE OUT THOSE THAT SPEAK UP FOR THEMSELVES AND GRADE THEM HARDER. NOT A GOOD PROFESSOR AT ALL!!!!!!!!
Very nice and very helpful if you don't understand a concept.
she's not that bad, maybe she gave that other person a B- because they can't spell! :( horable? not so much....horrible :)
Dr. McGee is an excellent instructor. She gives constructive criticism to her students while helping them develope their writing abilities. She isn't the most easiest teacher out there, however; she will make you laern and she will better your writting skills. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TEACHER!
All you have to do is: Attend class, read, answer questions, and take notes. Dr. McGee will answer all questions and she is very helpful with writing questions. GREAT PROFESSOR.
She is fair and very helpful. In her online class it is important to make sure you participate in the DQ's. Her quizzes are fairly easy.
You learn alot but student be ware: if you don't have alot of time to read lots of books and write many papers including big writing projects and in-class essays for mid-term and finals, avoid. I strongly recommend taking this course at center campus, south campus teachers in this course pile on the work. You must buy 2 text and other novels.
It was online class, she was terrible at getting papers back to you. She always blamed the network for being down, did a horrible job of communicating with the students. I am glad I don't have to take another LIT class.
Shes a good professor..knows her stuff.Just do the work and show up most of the time.easy pass, fair grader too.Take her for comp 1.
Took online class. Only had to log on 2 a week to do work. 4 papers, she is biased and opinionated. Overall the class is easy but the teacher obviously is tired of teaching because she doesn't. She gives criteria for grading but assigns her own points which she doesn't explain even if asked. Take her class because its easy but dont expect to learn.
Worst class ever! Too much reading assigned, be prepared to read a ton of boring stuff. 4 papers to write and she never talks about them. Slow at returning work so you have no idea how you are doing in the class.
I took this class online. The reading material and online discussion are relevant to the material you are learning. You will learn a lot and hopefully become a much better writer. She is fair but a little hard. Pay attention to her comments on your work. Overall very good teacher!
eng 2800, this class was HORRIBLE. the professor is HORRIBLE. 1500 page book to read, took the class online. discussion questions about boring writings every week, 3 papers due that she grades UNBELIEVABLE hard....straight A student before her C which I BUSTED MY BUTT FOR! WAAAAAAAY too much work for a 3 credit class (final exam is BRUTAL!!!)
you better be a professional writer or you are instantly getting a "C". She will kill you on essay/paper writing. "A" student in all english classes before this class. Aced all sections of this class(even final exam)but her paper grading brought me down to a "C" have to be better options out there. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Extremely difficult professor. Class averages were failing grades on 23 out of 30 assignments. Highly recommend choosing another professor.
I had a 4.0 until this class. If you care about your g.p.a. choose a different professor.
After taking over for Professor Marino, the class has become very boring. Dr. McGee is a terrible professor who I recommend to no one. Stay away from this professor because she will bore you to death and drive you crazy
Dr. McGee definitely has a passion for English, but might be a bit too hard on first year students at a community college. Our class average for one of the first essays was a 57%. Having a fairly good grasp of the English language going into the class, I didn't have too much trouble but Dr. McGee likes to mark off many points on little mistakes.
She might have a Doctor's degree, but she does not know how to teach. I would never take her for any class.
I learned quite a bit but she is a TOUGH grader I got a B but i had to work my butt off. Also I had another professor for comp 2 online but she had to go into emergency surgery and i got professor Mcgee again and my grade dropped from an A to a C
Took this with her online. She is very clear in her explanations and expectations and grades fairly. I would take anothe class with her.
I will start by saying Dr. McGee is extremely knowledgeable in composition. However, she is an extremely difficult grader, and strict with grammar rules (even if exceptions to a rule are demonstrated in the book). Despite grammar and composition being very strong subjects for me, this is the only class I did not receive an A in.
I took her course online and it was alright. Her work is very well explained and you can start your essay's weeks before they are due which is helpful and useful. However, I felt as if she was looking for certain views on certain topics and wasn't as open to her students. I ended up getting a B- in her class, was very bummed.
Extremely difficult class. She is VERY strict grading papers, and there are no second chances or opportunities for extra credit. Her lectures are not helpful. I had a 4.0 after 13 classes until this one. If I had the time and the money I would re-take this class with another professor.
I pay money for a service to receive this bad of a teacher who is not willing to help you to improve your writing(No re-writes)Am retaking the class & happy to take it with a professor who cares about her students. I am willing to do all the work Marino assigns because at least that teacher is very helpful & wants you to learn. McGee gets an E.
I took her onlIne this past winter semester. I thought her assignments were pretty clear but I felt that she graded based on her opinion. She offers no Extra credit or rewrites. Her topics irritated me because most of them were senseless. I think I could have gotten a better grade with someone else.
She unnecessary make things hard. Bad professor.
Very nice teacher but very hard, and she doesn't really teach that well, grades you based on your opinions, DONT TAKE HER!!!!
Lots of research. Fairly easy as long as you do the work and the research. Some things I didn't understand how it was applicable but as long as you do the work based on the syllabus, you'll be fine. She is an extremely nice teacher and wants you to do well and do the work. This class helped lead me into a direction of careers that interest me.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER. I took many english classes and english is my strength, she is an unfair grader and she is not helpful. Her essay grading is unbelievable. I had many other english teachers read my essay and were shocked at the grade i had received.
Terrible teacher! Don't waste your time taking this professor who is not helpful.
Worst teacher I have ever had! I took her online, did the assignments how she explained to do so, and she was NEVER HAPPY. She grades based on opinion, not on the work. I have never gotten anything but an A in English and barely got a B! STAY AWAY FROM HER CLASS! She will make you feel so stupid and offers no help!
Syllabus was very clear, do the work she requires and put in the effort and you will do fine. She is one of the few teachers that posts on the discussions board with the students to ensure that all students are understanding the expectations. 4 essays and a final exam on the required reading throughout the 8 weeks.
Professor Nancy McGee is a really nice teacher. She is always there for you and actually replies to your emails as well as give detailed feedback on your essays. You will definitely have to work for your grade so don't expect an easy "A". She's a really awesome Professor otherwise.
Dr. McGee has taken a beating on here and I think the majority of those being critical are immature and want an easy Instructor. Dr McGee is NOT one of those Instructors that hand out A's and B's to those who put forth a modest effort. She grades students papers against a rubric. Put forth your best effort and you'll get an A. I did.
Class is in a post first mode, with no editmodification ability. The essays are based on your perception or experiences - not research. Even though she posts her rubric matrix some comments were opinion based. All quizzes are open book.
Super helpful, and very kind! Never hesitated to ask for help! Definitely recommend her!
Extremely helpful, gives great feedback. Discussion posts, 4 essays, and quizzes 7 out of 8 weeks. Very clear what's expected of you and not too hard to accomplish. Would take again.
Very thorough, she gives media feedback and completely dissects your papers and isn't at all afraid of praising you. I'm looking up other courses I may need that she instructs!
Very involved professor. Enjoyed taking this class very much. She is very engaged with her students on the forums and with feedback on papers. Learned a ton.
Extremely frustrating professor. I had a 4.0 in a nursing program and took her class towards an advanced degree and couldn't get an A. We all know how difficult a nursing program is. It's utterly ridiculous how her grading is. She picks your work apart and looks for simple errors to slash your grade. Do yourself a favor and take another professor.
She is very engaged which is rare for an online class. BUT - I am working on my Masters and took this class as an elective. I've been a professional writer for 20+ years and I could NOT get an A in this class. She picked apart every paper and marked down for ridiculous things. If you don't mind getting a B for a LOT of work, it's a fine class.
Dr McGee is a great instructor! There is a lot of reading, research, and discussion posts but I really enjoyed all the work. She is very clear in her rubric about what she is looking for in your papers. You do need to work hard but the work will pay off. She gives very good feedback with videos on your papers.
I took Dr. McGee for ENGL 1210 and 1220. She is by far the most dedicated online professor that I've ever had. She gives VIDEOS for essay feedback (in 1210). I don't know many teachers that would take the time to do that. You absolutely have to earn your A, there are no free handouts at all in her classes. She answers any questions and is clear.
Do not take an online class with her! She assigns rough drafts and doesn't grade them or give feedback before your final draft is due! It's completely ubsurd. Her assignments are reasonable, but her grading is over the top for an entry level course. If you do not have doctoral level grammar and writing skills on your own, take a hard pass!
I've never had a teacher worry so much about the use of commas and the type of header used on a paper rather than the material I provided. She is so worried about the way we write anything (papers, discussion posts) that the grading starts to seem unrealistic. Also, for a required class for EARLY CHILDHOOD we sure did read a lot of young adult book
Dr. McGee isn't the worst, but she also isn't the best. I don't know if it was just for the time that I had her as a teacher, but she was kind of bad at giving feedback for rough drafts back in time for me to be able to use it for my final draft. She's also very very serious about her commas and whatnot.
When she grades your rough drafts, she just gives you a high score and offers suggestions. When I added those suggestions I got a 70% on the final draft for no reason other than she didn't like the story. The other papers got no feedback till the class was over so I could not even guess what she wanted me to add to make it better.
She gives you feedback on your paper, you change it, turn it in and then she finds more to mark you down for, a lot more. Not to mention her essay topics can be ridiculously difficult to write about. AWFUL EXPERIENcE
Very difficult quizzes and specific essays to write about. Essays are all you do and worth most points, you won't pass without them. Tough grader. Will take points away for almost anything. No extra credit. You always get feedback. You have time for difficult essays. You have over an hour for short, but difficult quizzes, not worth much points.
Gives solid feedback and advice. Weekly tests are straight from reading and require at least some critical thinking skills. You write rough drafts, essays, and post to discussion forum. She gives you plenty of time for it all. If you put in a lot of effort and actually study you will do great. I got an A and would take her again.
I absolutely hated this class because of this professor. she is a hard grader and doesn't give you the grade you deserve. i put a lot of effort in my writing assignments and she gave me a horrible grade for all my assignments and unfortunately i failed this class because of her. she does not go off her outline or her syllabus. DONT TAKE HER!
The best professor ever. I really enjoyed being one of her students, I have learned so much in only a 8 week class that will last a life time.
She's awful. Don't waste your time. She doesn't grade fairly and isn't specific about what you need to improve on your writing. When you ask for help, she says "refer to the feedback given". All the feedback is, is grammatical error corrections. Once you fix your mistakes, you still get a low grade. Just take someone else because I sure am.
Would not recommend to anyone as an online class. This pass semester I took her English 1220 class and barely passed with a 75. She does not communicate what she looks for in grades at all. Her grading techniques are poor and rudimentary. Take your class elsewhere!
She was beyond horrible. Be ready to write an essay every week and class discussion about a ridiculously hard topic thats hard to write about. Also, be ready for a losing battle with grades. She will give you feedback, and then mark you down for even more for your final grade. Grades this class like its a doctorate English program.
She is a really tough grader and will minus points off your essays for minor mistakes. To get an A you have to be close to perfection in writing and people who take her as their first English class ever usually dont have the writing skills of her expectations. Shes really hard on grading papers and almost impossible to get an A in her class.
By far my favorite professor at Macomb. She is always there to help and cares about students sucess. She is a tough grader, but provides awesome feedback on the good and bad. I highly recommend her!
worst teacher you can ever have do yourself a favor and don't take any of her classes. She has no care in the world about anything she's looking at she's grades off of opinions. Over half of her mark downs are opinions. She will keep bringing your grade down every paper. worst teacher I have ever taken. I wish I would have dropped the class.
Does not understand the requirements of sources for a research paper. She wants you to cite yourself as a source for your own ideas. Crazy crazy crazy. Dont try to contact her. Youll just get ignored. Also very unclear with instruction. Best of luck if you get this professor lol.
If youre getting ready to take an English class do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from Prof. Mcgee. Shes and extremely unfair grader, youll be marked down for grammatical errors that are simply her preference, and shes insanely vague when it comes to essay requirements. I wish I could warn you about more, but Im out of characters.
Worst professor I've ever had. I can't believe she is even a professor, as she grades off her own opinions. And she will do ANYTHING to take points away. Like someone else said, she has a ridiculously hard criteria and essay topics to write about. It's virtually impossible to get an A in her class even with being an experience writer.
definitely take a different professor if theyre easy. her class isnt the hardest but you definitely want to do things on time or youll fall behind quick. she grades easy in the beginning and get tougher throughout the course. she takes forever grading bigger assignments as well.
I have always done really well on essays. English is one my favorite subjects until I took it online. The workload is s lot. Would never recommend taking this teacher.
While taking this course it was very difficult because I had a question and emailed her and she never responded. As a teacher you should always respond to your students. She is a very tough grader and bases your paper off of grammar rather than the information you wrote about. If you end up getting this professor DROP the class. :)
She is a very tough grader and bases your paper off of grammar rather than the information you wrote about. If you end up getting this professor DROP the class. :)
Grades hard and very unlikely to get an A even if you try your hardest.
Doesn't deserve the ratings. Plenty of extra credit opportunity (grammar quizzes, ted talk summaries). Have to write 8 papers in a little under 2 months (this is what you should expect if you stick to online classes because they're "easy"). Get feedback from both her and students on rough drafts. Got 100% doing only one extra credit assignment.
Gives clear feedback and you will see a difference in your grade if you put in the effort and listen to what she says, would enroll in a class that she lectures again.
Professor McGee offers a lot of extra credit, so take advantage of this opportunity! She gives feedback on all assignments. Make sure you do not procrastinate your research paper!
Personally, I enjoyed this class&learned a lot. However, she made it feel impossible to get above a B- in her class. I found myself understanding the material&answering her questions right during lecture. However, when it came down to the bigger assignments, she took off so many pts.I wish there was another professor who teaches this class at MCC.
This Professor is very strict on grammar and most assignments. If you redo a assignment she will bump your grade only by a slight amount, if you did poorly on it. She allows extra credit but does not count it for your final grade. This only counts for the research paper. I would not recommend taking this class UNLESS absolutely necessary.
It is clear this woman has never been in an elementary classroom a day in her life, her snarky comments and harsh grading, make her not fit to teach a class for future educators.Assignments and workload are overwhelming.Dr. McGee is not passionate about her career in education, she seems to just be seeking a sense of superiority over her students.
I took this class as an 8-week online course, thinking it would be similar to my online 8-week 1180 course. It was the opposite; she is a hard grader on all assignments. She had given me a D- on my research paper due to the way I described my topic. If you take her class, make sure you get into the most specific detail you possibly could.
Dr McGee is an extremely harsh teacher with no sympathy for misunderstanding. Her feedback is vague and comes across as rude. She requires a weekly "progress update" over what you think you need to improve on from that week but doesn't grade the assignments from that week until the due date of the "progress update". Dr. McGee thinks she's "him".
entire semester only focused on one research paper, made me insane. she has LOTS of requirements for everything You do, long long lists of criterias to fulfill. Lots of directions. reading them takes hours and even more time to satisfy them. Writing englis should not be this restricted.Thisis coming from someone who got a 9 in igcse language a btw.
I've had Professor McGee for a few courses and she is always very fair. When I had a death in the family she was very compassionate with allowing me extensions. In my most recent course with her there was a 5 point extra credit assignment available each week. Her late penalties are very fair and reasonable. Lots of writing.
very fair when grading. EC available. A lot of writing but that's just the how the course was built. she answered emails on timely manner. she's very nice and sweet.
Can't speak for McGee in person but she was a great asynchronous professor. Solidly paced course, quickly answered the few emails I had to send, left comments on specific parts of every weekly paper. Generous late assignment policy & weekly EC available. Clear on expectations for discussions. I had a lot of fun writing the final paper on Peter Pan.
It's a difficult class, however; if you message her when experiencing discrepancies, she was fair when providing solutions. Many people ended up dropping the course to to work load, so I suggest taking this class alone or with another course added at least 4 weeks in so you have a gist on the time needed to complete assignments.
I throughly enjoyed this class because of the professor. She gives amazing, detailed feedback and offers weekly extra credit (take advantage of that!). The lectures and reading material are easy to follow and she grades generously. The class is well organized and she makes it easy to obtain all information necessary for the final essay.
