Im not going to lie shes a very nice old lady. However her class is boring as hell being she goes off random tangents and always hasa lot to say. Tests are hard only way to pass is to read the book a bunch of times. Not at all helpful should consider retirment

Never had a class that was less interesting than this one, and I love art! About a quarter of the students leave early during every session. Useful if you want to catch up on sleep. I have learned zero in this class.

this teacher sucks. great way to waste a few hours a day and write a good paper that gets a harsh rating. I dont think i know a single person in this class that did good. or even that got a B

useless lecture!She is a very old lady who speaks very quietly,monotonic, almost without pause on one note, 2 hours. After 15 minutes, half the class fall a sleep. She is strictly an appraiser. Lots of extra credit. In essay she wants a lot of detail and sources of information. It's probably ok for non ART major students.

Very disorganized, lectures straight from textbooks, too fast, too much busy work and inconsistent through out the quarter. Inconsiderate of the time structure of lecture and the whole quarter. She goes off on tangent about random stories. Final had 4 parts to it for a 6 week course with a quiz and an essay every week.

Never take ICS 5 class with her. Took online class with her, and got a lot of readings, assignments. Not easy to do them. Final grade never reflect your entire assignments. Your entire effort goes blank.

The most boring teacher in the world. She was nice but good lord. Not good.

Bless her- You can tell she is very passionate about the subject however she does absolutely NOTHING to engage her students! She lectures for the ENTIRE 2 HOURS with no break in between. Advice to PASS: attend class (she keeps track of roll), put effort into all your assignments, do as much extra credit Alt. Advice: take the online class

1 Her teaching style is like the 1900s which is extremely boring. 2 A ton of reading ( three books plus arts pics) 3 No interaction with her students at all. 4 I JUST have zero interest coming to her class ever. 5 Oh My God, please give me a break.

She takes SO LONG to grade assignments! Doesn't care when you turn anything in. Doesn't communicate with students. She also requires these horribly boring text books. Luckily, all the quizzes are easy because she either a)gives you the answer in previous notes, and b) let's you take the quiz at least twice.

Don't take unless you have no other options! I took this class for my GE and boy was that a mistake. This was an online Summer class so the work was more but you can tell she didn't even update it from a year ago. We had assignments due on a date that the week wasn't even opened yet! She also left out some downloads that we needed for assignments!

This course was by far the most tedious, uninformative, and poorly managed class I have ever been in. I took her for Art History as a CS major to fulfill a GE - she spends her entire class lecturing while no one pays attention. Her homework never relates to her lectures. Her curriculum is at least ten years old with little changes. Only B I have...

I am taking her online class. It is extremely confusing and disorganized, with random and almost arbitrary due dates at times. Many assignments are written with different due dates in the syllabus, modules, and grades sections. Oftentimes what is on the tests isn't found in the books. Resources posted are often outdated or confusing to navigate.

DONT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASSES. Her canvas is extremely disorganized due dates don't match at all so be wary. A lot of assignments and information are not really found in readings had to look up a lot of things on the internet. Don't take her she's terrible.

She spends the entire class lecturing. She does not interact with the class. She is very old (80s-90s) and speaks in a soft, monotone voice. She does not try to make the class exciting, she just reads the PowerPoint for the class and wastes two hours of your time. You are graded on very few things and she does not explain them properly. Avoid her.

She makes you buy three separate textbooks for the class and never assigns anything from them. I had to get a book voucher to be able to afford all three. Shes a very very very boring professor and this is the worst class I have ever taken at this school.

I am sitting in this class right now hating life and wishing I had dropped. She spends all of class lecturing, she rambles mostly about irrelevant information, and I can assure you her style of teaching is the least enjoyable and most boring of any instructor I have ever had. Please avoid if you value your time. This class is an unorganized mess.

She is rude to her students and does not care about their success. I did poorly on a test and she felt it would be appropriate to write personal insults towards me all over it. She is a terrible lecturer, does not interact with the class, and does nothing to prepare you for quizzes. She lectures the entire class period in a monotone voice. Avoid!!!

The lectures are incredibly boring. The tests and papers are graded in a way that isn't constructive whatsoever. I wish I had dropped without a W and taken a different class. Also online assignments don't make much sense and I had a lot of trouble even accessing documents that should have been available. I guess the EC is a plus but Id stay away.

This class was very hard to stay motivated about. The lectures were not enjoyable and I felt like it was a waste of my time. It was hard to stay focused in this class because her style of lecturing is very old-school and monotone. She does not usually engage with students during lecture or really ask their opinions, so it was hard to stay engaged.

In my two years at De Anza, I have never been as confused, astonished, and frustrating by the teachings of a professor. I continue to be genuinely surprised by how a class could be so dull, unintellectual, and empty while also having an incredulous level of testing and writing. Students with great standing in the class wouldn't stop mocking it.

I did not enjoy this professor or her style of teaching. Her lectures were so dull and not interesting. It's one of those classes where everyone typically falls asleep and the teacher is oblivious to it. I tried to ask her for help and she confused me more. Her assignments are very difficult to understand and the lectures are not what she tests on.

I FELL ASLEEP IN THIS CLASS EVERY DAY. Please do not take this professor! She can be very rude and her material is confusing and almost impossible to navigate. BEWARE

Currently in her online ICS5 course. Material is very difficult to navigate, the due dates are all from last year on Canvas and her powerpoints have an odd layout. She writes powerpoints in paragraphs rather than bullet points which makes it hard to take notes. Her assignment descriptions are also very long and overly descriptive.

I was in her World Prehistory class but had to withdraw because of this instructor. She is a strict teacher and a ridiculously tough grader. Her class is not fun whatsoever and nobody in the class is allowed to speak while she is lecturing. It is not interactive and I did not want to pay 31 dollars a unit to have an illegible powerpoint read to me.

She can be a sweet old lady but her lectures are badly formatted, repetitive and yet hard to follow. 99% of assignments are online and her canvas is extreamly unorganized and near impossible to navigate sometimes, we had to help her change her canvas structure a couple times in class. She is unhelpful when asked questions irl or through email

I took this class because I assumed it would be an easy class to fulfill a GE requirement. Boy was I WRONG. The amount of time and energy this class required was ridiculous. She told us in the beginning that her students say its a fun class but shes clearly oblivious. Does she read these reviews?! None of her students leave her class satisfied...

Most boring and useless class offered at De Anza. Do not take History of Art for the ICS requirement. There are so many better options and professors that are offered. She is notorious for being one of the oldest and most boring professors on campus.

The most boring professor I have ever had. My god. Do not take a class with Nancy Olsen unless you have an out of this world attention span and love being lectured at for two hours straight.

I took her online class last quarter and I did not have a pleasant experience. After reading these students reviews I'm wondering how she still has a job... anyways her online class that I took was very confusing and disorganized. The assignments were written in all caps or in long paragraphs that often made no sense or needed to be decoded.

How can an online class be this INCREDIBLY disorganized? Good luck finding anything ever if you're relying on her modules. Relevant info can be 6-10 steps away from current assignment, double dates posted, poorly formatted/edited docs, overly wordy titles, req. to go out to locations for hw, piled on top of way too much hw for non-major class.

This review also comes with a story to tell my own experience with her. I took her class last year for the ICS credit. We had a quiz and I did not do well and she actually made remarks to me in front of other students as she was passing it back. I never filed a report but I should have. Little does she know I am dyslexic and have trouble reading.

Disorganized and overall unpleasant professor. Her classes are dull and lifeless. Art history is actually very interesting to me which is why I stuck to it, but her powerpoints and study guides make the material a lot more complicated than it needs to be. There are several better and easier choices to get your Arts credit.

God, where do I begin. I am currently in my winter quarter and you will not believe how disorganized this is. Even if everything is separated by weeks, you'll see steps scattered all over the place and none of the titles will make sense. Directions are unclear, or not even fully elaborated on, and if it is, it's just a wall of text- not responsive

One of the most confusing and annoying online classes Ive taken. Very disappointing experience. Would not recommend taking her online classes. Perhaps she is different in person but her online class felt like an after thought.

I enrolled in her ICS5 class back in 2017. There were a lot of issues I had with it which caused me to withdraw. She wanted us to purchase 3 new textbooks for her course. She also lectures the whole period without questions. When speaking to her privately or during class, she is not helpful to her students and patronizes students for needing help.

Words cannot express the hell Nancy put my group through this semester. Very unclear. All of the syllabus dates were for the previous semester so who even knows when anything was due. Lots of extra credit on dry dry topics. Expects you to write a paper based off a paragraph. Material uploaded to canvas was confusing and hard to understand.

One of the WORST classes I have EVER taken at de anza. Her online class is SO unorganized, with due dates from previous quarters and poorly written assignments. Assignments are SO unclear, so be prepared to be confused with little to no clarifications from her because she never answers her emails!!!! LOTS of assignments every week too. 0/10!!!!!!!!

Worst class I ever took. She is very unorganized and have dates of assignments from previous classes. If you need this class take it with a different teacher or you will feel frustrated the whole time. You do not know if you are passing or not because she doesn't post grades on time or the overall grades.

Hands down the worst online class I've ever taken. She is very disorganized and does not know how to use Canvas, which is a problem since this is an online class. Assignments are uploaded late, and directions are not straightforward at all. DO NOT take this class. I took it because I had no other option, and I deeply regret it.

Ive since transferred and Im about to get my BA in 3 weeks, but this is the ONLY class I withdrew from during my 3 years at De Anza. This woman was just.... mean. Im a film major, was interested in art, but her art history courses were needlessly complicated and suck out all creativity from the subject matter. Take Intro to Film or anything else

WORST teacher and class I've ever had. Her Canvas is super disorganized, there's assignments on there from previous classes, grades aren't shown, late grader, the assignments are a lot of work for a GE. 80+ pages of reading a week, 2 expected museum visits, and unclear directions. Quizzes had ?'s w/ info from the next week's lecture. DON'T DO IT

I'm not sure if Nancy is still a teacher, but a few years back I took her class. I got a poor grade on a test, and she wrote mocking “feedback” all over it. This included “use your brain” and “this is pathetic” in her own words written on my test. To me, as a student, this was unacceptable. Her behavior towards me led me to dropping it.

You can tell she's passionate about the subject and wants you to learn it well. But she really struggles with Canvas. Her assignments are EVERYWHERE and very easy to miss. Many questions in her quizzes had spelling errors and wrong answers. And the course was a huge time sink. Take it with someone else to save your sanity.

I would receive an average of six to eight assignments per week and she would only open quizzes on the weekends. The assignments were mainly random screenshots or YouTube videos that were sometimes a hour long. It felt she gave random busy work just to mess with the class. Worst class I have ever taken.
