She is challenging as well as understanding to a students' needs. She will go out of her way to help a student. If the class is behind on the curriculum due to a cancelation or two, she will push back the due dates of assignments. She also has no problem assisting the class with review right before a test.
The worst teacher I have had in my life. :(.
I can't recomend you her classes.
I hope you will enjoy her class.
I am personally surprised to see so much harsh commentary on Nancy, whom I found to be an outstanding teacher. Not only does she keep class fun and energetic, she bends over backwards to help students. Keep in mind, she is very energetic and you'll leave her first few classes exhausted. Reed the book, use the study guide, you'll pass no problem.
Great teacher! She makes the material easy to relate to and understand! I would highly reccommend her but she does require you to work and to study! not a class for slackers!
I thought this teacher was to hard on the students, she gave homework that took forever to do. Your grade reflected on the four tests you take in class. Only take this class if your up for a higher learning level- this class is not for slacks
I too am also amazed to see any bad remarks about Nancy. I thought she was hilarious. She is VERY up beat and energetic. The tests can run on the harder side but if you pay attention and do your work its not bad at all. And as for the homework being hard, thats your own fault for not paying attention in class.
Fantastic teacher
Make sure to double space everything in her class or she won't grade it. She doesn't return papers in a timely manner and will not notify you that you have a zero until you receive the paper back. She returned 3 of 5 assignments on the day of the final, 2 I forgot to double space. Because it was the last day, she refused to accept them if fixed.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't get to explain well. The tests are hard to understand.
Is to wrapped up in herself to be of much use as a teacher. Hard to follow as she jumps around a lot. try not to get this one unless your into self punishment.
She spends too much time flirting with male students to do her job right. Very irresponsible. Unclear on assignments. Unfair grader. I think she needs to find a different career because she seems to not have any interest in teaching. HATE HER!!!
She was absolutely amazing! I had no interest in psychology before I took her class and now I love it! She teaches for all kinds of learners. Lectures are very interesting and she really makes the information stick. I absolutely love her! And not only is she a really good teacher, she has a really cool personality.
Awful class. Full of herself, obnoxious unprofessional teaching methods, and study guides that are not relevant to the questions on exams. Lost points on homework with no reasons indicated why even when asked face to face. No wonder she is single, nobody would be able to stand her. Semi attractive but the personality destroys it.
I thought Nancy was a great teacher. She was hilarious and energetic. In order to score well on the homework and tests all you have to do is study. I can't believe all of the negative posts about her! My only guess is that these people are slackers, didn't study and are looking to blame anyone but themselves for their poor grade.
WOW! I'm so shocked to see so many negative posts. Nancy is always willing to go above and beyond for her students. She is always available to help and is happy to do it. She also offers alternative methods for those are aren't getting it. She is passionate about the subject matter and makes it incredibly hard to fail. Fun, energetic and likeable.
Great teacher. I agree with previous poster about negative posters wanting someone to blame for their lack of studying. She was very helpful if there was something you weren't grasping fully, and always eager to talk it through. Made learning the subject fun and interesting (even the parts that could have been dull otherwise). Great teacher!!
No hotness ratings??? I'm baffled. Very fun and interactive class. I didn't need much extra help, but she was great at making the mountain of material clear before moving on. Not my preferred subject area, but I'd take another of Nancy's classes.
The people that wrote anything negative about Nancy are using her as a scapegoat for their own failure or dislike. She is a fantastic instructor and is EXTREMELY passionate about what she teaches. If you didn't double space your paper, that's your own fault! Nancy isn't here to hold your little hand. This is college, grow up!
The class was fairly easy as long as you put effort into it. Nancy was funny and energetic. However, I found her to be confusing at times. Personally, I would choose not to take another class with her.
yay nancy!!!
very awesome teacher !!!
To get an A, you need 94% overall and 84% for an B.
I took her online human development. I received 95% on her tests or higher. Just study the review. I didn't need to buy the book. She asked for four papers to be written but she doesn't actually read them. She just checks that you have the required number of paragraphs. She made several errors that I almost didn't catch. No late work.
I did not care for her teaching style. Took the online class and found you had to study a lot to do well on her tests. Her reviews are all over the place and she just doesn't seem to really care all that much about the topic.
Absolutely RIDICULOUS "teacher", I personally wouldn't dignify her by calling her a teacher of any sort and certainly not a professor, the most UNQUALIFIED, ANNOYING person I've ever met. DONT TAKE ANY CLASSES FROM THIS WOMAN YOU WILL REGRET IT!! DONT BE FOOLED BY POSITIVE RATINGS YOU WILL REGRET TAKING HER CLASS!!! SHE DOESN"T BELONG TEACHING!!
She is hard. Don't bother reading the book. show up to class and take notes word for word off of all her slides. study them really hard and you will get a good grade. She is funny but you will be writing for 2 hours up until the last minute. Peer review articles are annoying as well. If you can, get another teacher
Fantastic professor! Taking notes and studying her guides before tests will help to get you an A, but her courses are not for slackers-you will learn the material. She uses analogies and humor to make concepts clear. I could not recommend a better teacher for the subject.
I took her for AbnormPsych. She was CONSTANTLY absent then expected us to learn twice as much info, twice as fast between tests. She NEVER notified us of her absences so we all stand around waiting. Her study guides DON'T match her tests. She is very conceited, shares way TMI(personal)& also seems to have some sort of abnormal psy disorder herself.
Personally I think she is by far the worst psychology teacher I have ever encountered. I took her online course and she jumped around so much that she was extremely hard to follow. When asked for clarification on something via the preferred email address, it took her 5 business days to respond and then the assignment was unaccepted due to lateness.
What a terrible teacher is all I can say.
If you want a teacher is completely full of herself, shares way too much personal info w/the class, is constantly absent cuz of personal problems, creates study guides that do NOT match tests & seems to suffer from narcassistic personality disorder as well as some other abnormal psychological disorders - then Nancy is the PERFECT teacher for you!
The midterms are easy, the discussions and assignments are super easy. Do not take the class if you do not like reading. It is an online class and so far I love this class. I am learning so many interesting things. Just wish I could take more classes from her.
She is all over the place in her study guides, as neither the book or the notes, match the order of the study guide. The tests are pretty hard too, given that just knowing the definitions does not roll. You need to get the stuff as she uses real life examples and it's up to you to figure out what it's talking about. Great at explaining the material
Great at explaining material, but study guides do not match the note or the textbook order, which was the most frustrating part for me. Even after attending the class you still need to read the book as she does not cover everything in class and does ask questions from the book on the exam. She does make the material easy to understand and remember
WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. This women ruined my 4.0 GPA! She was completely unclear on how to improve assignments, huge amounts of work each week, horrible study guides, extremely unhelpful, and I didn't learn a thing.
WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD
This class was frustrating. There was a lot of material she expected us to know and not enough time. Her study guides are confusing to follow and half the information on the test is from your book and NOT the ENDLESS notes we take in class. If you like to sit and be lectured at for 2 hours then this is the class for you.Hands on learners beware!!!
Worst online teacher EVER. I have taken a lot of online classes and she is by far the worst teacher. Doesn't make time for students and inconsistent in her grading.
The worst instructor at MHCC. There are so many fantastic instructors there , this class was a real disappointment . Don't waste your time and money.
ridiculous grading, insane amounts of reading, tests have nothing to do with the material we were supposed to read. Don't take this class online.
Do not take this course, as a psychology major and sociology minor I found this class to be not worth the time; the textbook is 20 plus years old, writing 4 pages a week and the use of only 3 major siociology paradigms. She takes weeks to gradeThis class honestly isn't worth it- you are better off taking course from the other psychology intrustors
Great teacher! Lots of funny stories, she has great energy which helped me to feel even more interested in the class than I was before. She's really easygoing, if you do the work, listen in class, and read the chapters then you'll do great. I highly recommend her!
We had a 4 page paper every 2 weeks, an exam, 4 chapters to read, and 4 quizzes and lecture to watch all due every 2 weeks. It was a lot of time, but the content was easy, I never watched the lectures at all, the test and quizzes were word for word from the text. Teacher never responded to messages, it was totally self driven. I got an A.
Web class is TERRIBLE. Irrelevant questions on exams. ex: type of expensive in-vitro fertilization method mentioned in one of her numerous videos. Uncommunicative. Little email response. Arbitrary grading. Wrong answers on quizzes. Took weeks to grade. Unprofessional. Avoid if possible, but department doesn't offer many reasonable choices.

A lot of energy, learned a lot, really tough on tests, READ YOUR TEXTBOOK
Nancy post hard tests with questions from the next chapter. She is hypercritical on directions being followed and does not deviate from the syllabus in any way. She is strict, but from a PhD. what else could you expect.
Avoid taking PSY237 online with her if possible. Has a discussion forum for students who need help, however does not respond to students' questions. Tests are ridiculous, study guides are useless and/or outdated. Always extremely late on marking assignments, and feedbacks, if any, are also useless. She could use a lot of serious improvements.
Overall, my most frustrating class. Lectures aren't even on the test. Not only do you need to read the textbook but take notes and STUDY vocab. I'm a straight A student and I currently have a high B in the class. About to take the final, hopefully it'll raise to an A -crosses fingers-
She is the worst teacher I have ever had, lectures take forever to get anywhere, and what she expects for assignments are not clear. She is also not helpful what so ever if you need help or want clarification on why she docked you massive amounts of credit for a minor mistake. Do not take her, you will hate it.
Some days are good and some days are bad. She expects full attention during lectures, but then has things in the test that are in a side story in the book. Can be confusing, but is generally willing to explain if you dare to ask a question. Likes to tell stories about her life a lot.
I took two different classes with Nancy Olson. The first one I took ( 237) was a requirement to get into a nursing program, the second one was (232) for an elective for my associates in general studies. 237 wasn't too bad, I'm taking 232 ATM and still have yet to get a grade on a test I took a month ago! Directions are unclear and she grades tough
Great teacher, willing to help, friendly, and definitely outgoing. If you aren't willing to put forth the effort, or ask questions you'll fail. NOT an easy A, or B for that matter. Lots of papers to write, you get to pick the topics to a certain extent. Would have liked to have access to her lecture videos that she has avail for her online class.
Probably one of the worst online classes I've taken. The biggest reason is because although it was basically the same assignment every week, it took me until about week 5 to finally understand what she wanted (despite a series of emails that were quite cryptic on her part). Additionally everything was due at 8:00 PM on Friday which was troubling.
I was not impressed with her teaching style, as she jumps all over the place and her tests are completely different than what was taught in class or told to study.I must have sent her 6 emails before I heard anything back, regarding test scores that were incorrect or information that was unclear.
Straight A student that got a C in this class due to the fact that everything you are taught to study is not on the tests. She gives you zero's on projects if you don't do it exactly as she wants (ex: if you single space an article review she wanted double spaced).AVOID AT ALL COSTS. APPLY TO PCC OR CCC FOR ANOTHER TEACHER. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!!
This class has so much potential, but the instructor uses outdated lectures which makes it confusing. The material is not hard, but the way its presented. Questions on tests are not from book or lectures. Some questions are from next section. Read your book carefully and take notes and you will pass. Don't see point in writing 4 long papers.
Avoid the online version of this class. Nancy has plenty of energy and her criteria for grading is very clear. Lots of papers to write, but they are very easy and it's not difficult at all to get 100% on all of them. I found exams to be pretty easy as long you took lecture notes (write down EVERYTHING); careful though, lectures are disorganized.
Worst teacher ever. The study guides were not helpful at all neither was her lecture. The tests had a lot of content not covered in class.
This was a very difficult class! I take online classes all the time and this one was by far the hardest. She does not give you a study guide and some of the questions could have had more than one correct answer (used quizzlet) and they were still wrong. You're given a huge workload!
She's knowledgeable, and very likeable. You should pay close attention to her lectures to find out what is on the tests.
I do not recommend taking this course online. Lecture videos do not help for tests. I would recommend purchasing the study material applicable for the book. Lectures are disorganized. Instructions for projects are disorganized. Communication is less than inadequate. If you are at MHCC take this course at PCC with another instructor.
I loved my class with Nancy Olson. Sure you have to work, this is college people. Always a good idea to read your text, take notes, and participate in class. She has great stories to tell and tries to make the lectures fun. I didn't have any problem having to write essays in for her class, it's required work in healthcare.
Absolute worst I've ever had. Doesn't answer emails. Lectures/tests are old: don't match new book. Lectures are all over the place. Many test questions are written so badly it was impossible to do anything but guess what answer she was looking for. Sometimes answers were wrong according to text and you'd have to email her to fix. Avoid if possible.
Graded by only 4 assignments and 4 tests. final was not cumulative. Her lectures were not very well aligned with the textbook. I felt like the exams were more of her lectures than the book. Loves to hear herself talk. The only helpful thing was she related personal life things to topics so it might help some understand the topic better.
Doesn't grade anything for weeks at a time, difficult to get in touch with, doesn't take late work and LOVES to give automatic zeros. Doesn't care if you made any mistakes, she won't accept your reasoning. Lots of lecture videos. Difficult teacher to have as online. I would not recommend taking this class with her. Not sure how she is in person.
Rarely replies to emails and always had a really lame excuse for why she didn't get back to you sooner, assignments go weeks without being graded, test have questions that were not covered in class, super harsh grading, so. much. reading! tests are SUPER hard. Lectures are outdated and useless for tests. By far the worst teacher I've ever had.
Great course! Listen to lectures carefully and take good notes.
I took online psychology 201 with her and got an A pretty easy. Its good class to crank out.
I got an A, but only just. I got Cs and Ds on the tests but As on everything else. Just make sure you complete everything, including the extra credit, with near perfect or perfect scores and you'll get an A. Tests are difficult, sometimes things pop up from other chapters. Read and listen to lectures and take notes, you'll need it!
Had to take her class during covid, she was great! Always replied to emails within a day & gave great feedback. Not sure why people are complaining on reading? It's a college course? She also used a free textbook & had clear expectations of assignments, 10/10 experience but you will have to work for it.
I really enjoyed her class. Very easy as long as you do the work
Weekly lecture videos and chapter reading. The weekly assignments are similar. As long as you turn in every assignment and put in some effort you should do fine.
Honestly, this is the worst class I've ever taken, everything is done out of a book, and there's no lecture to find out what the important things are so you can retain good information. Endless reading and busy work assignments galore that truly don't help you learn anything. I wouldn't recommend taking this class.
Took her online PSY201 course. Not terrible, but very homework heavy with lots of discussion posts and tests due every week. Took AP psy in high school, so it was mostly review, did not learn much new. Missing any assignment hurts your grade a LOT, but there are a few extra credit things available. Overall, a meh class.
I don't get the bad ratings, this class was so easy! This is coming from someone who isn't very book smart. The assignments are fun little surveys that you don't need studying for and the quizzes are mostly on quilt. She offers 2 extra credit assignment and I passed with an A. The final took 3 hours tho be aware. I rarely read that textbook
Lots and lots of homework. This is my 6th term at MHCC and this class has had the most coursework by far. Lots of reading as well. I emailed this professor once and she never got back to me. Surprisingly this professor is an easy grader though!!!
The class itself is okay, I wouldn't recommend it for those who do not have 8 hours each week to contribute to the class. It is packed with homework and I would find myself staying up at night doing them. Assignments are also repetitive so it can get boring easily. But overall she is a good instructor and will reply to emails quickly.
