Good at explaining things.
Very good class. This lady knows her subject inside and out.
I have never had a teacher has mean as her. She makes you feel stupid when you ask a question. Only classes i have ever failed. Do yourself a favor; take someone else.
Very hard grader (2 A's on the fist exam out of 30 people). She does make you feel stupid often and can be judgemental about students in general. However, she knows her stuff and explains it well.

Do yourself a favor if you are not above average at math. This teacher loves to belittle you. I ask a lot of questions and never miss a class. She tries to make you feel bad when you ask a question, and she never calls a student by name. I will be so happy to finish this class
She knows her class inside and out and is thorough explaining questions during her office hours. I had minimal difficulty in her class. Plus. . . no required homework!
very knowledgable and willing to make sure everyone understands. Not an easy subject hence not an easy A.
One of the best teacher at PCC. the class is a challege that makes you learn. great class. great teacher. Thank You Mrs Roper for sharing your knowedge.
Very HARD. Good teacher, but not great.
Nice class. Extremely clear teaching. Goes through material VERY carefully, and minimizes confusion as much as possible. Very approachable. Sometimes a tad outspoken, but never tries to embarrass/offend anyone purposefully. Makes class interesting. Tests are very fair; take good notes and listen well.
This women is the meanest teacher I have ever had. I have never had this much trouble with a math class, and she basically refused to help me. I would not ever recommend this teacher! She sent two of my class mate out of the room in tears, just because they couldn't understand something.
makes student feel incompetent if you ask a question. doesn't like to review problems, and doesn't care about student. first days of class, never bothered to learn students name. is cold!
Challenging class. She has an excellent teaching style, but is a difficult grader.
Very judgemental, requires unreaslistic study hours, does not answer questions, very hard grader, hostile to students who didn't take MTH 243 from her,
an excellent teacher, but still a tough cookie. This is not an easy class. Be prepared to take notes! She goes over everthing with you. Do your homework! Very helpful with homework problems, go to office if you have Qs. Very fair grader. This was my first math class in ten years and I earned a "B".
Freaking awesome. Hard grader, but a fun class to take. Get involved.
she is a geat teacher, will never forget her, very organized person and goes in to the smallest detail in her teaching,. tests are not easy, but fair compair to the information given in class and homework.

She's got this thing on lock. She's been doing this long enough to know exectly how to teach the class. 3 worksheets to help before tests. 3 exams. Show to every class, pay attention and you'll get by. Tough subject but very good teacher.
First a warning, if you didn't have her for 243, drop and get another prof. However, if you did have her for first term you are set. In my opinion she's a fantastic teacher, she's got this completely figured out, what to teach and how. But, take her for both or neither, because her style is very specific and set to her class.
This professor is really tough. She wants things done in certain way, or you are not going to get far in her class. She does not like to answer questions, and makes students feel stupid for asking questions that she thinks are "easy" I wouldnt take this professor if you need help with math. Her tests are hard and wants them done in certain way.
Mrs. Roper is the best math teacher I have ever had. She knows the subject, and gives you all of the information you need to succeed on her exams. You cannot miss class (ever) or be prepared to fall way behind. She rocks!
MADE MY MATH PATH A TOTAL DISASTER! I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE OUT THERE TO TAKE HER. SHE IS HORRIBLE. SHE NEVER REALLY HELPED ME...I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE NUMBER ONE THING THAT A TEACHER IS SUPOSE TO DO. WHEN A STUDENT NEEDS HELP...DONT EVEN BOTHER GOING TO HER...ITS NOT WORTH IT. DONT TAKE HER!!! I WARNED YOU!
She is a great teacher. She is very strict on what she wants, but she loves the subject and knows how to teach it in a why that you can understand. She was always available to me if I needed help or had a question. As long as you show up everyday and take notes you should do well. She always stuck to her schedule and was a fair grader.
Some may disagree with me but she never helped me out...i felt like i was trapped in a hole and i couldnt get out...she wouldnt lend me a hand and pull me out...she was unable to make me understand what she had taught for some many years.....
Nancy is clear about her expectations and grades based on those expectations. She gives good examples on how to do the work. She's not compassionate toward students that don't put in the effort and then want special attention. If you struggle with math, she may not be the right teacher for you unless you plan to put in time at the math center.
She's one of those people who have really low self esteem and tries to bring you down with her by talking about calculus in a statistics course when she knows only 2 of the people have taken calculus. It's totally frustrating when she starts talking about something you have no clue about then says "you don't have to know that."
I lost respect for her after she disciplined another classsmate for looking at their phone. Come on we are all adults here and I do not need the teacher telling me when I can and cannot look at features on my phone like calender or to do list. I also feel she is not a fair grader at all. I WOULD NOT take her class! There are better teachers!
I felt that she graded to hard. She was very rude to me in class when I asked for assistance. I am not a math person and it was difficult for me. I needed further explanation on a problem and she was very sarcastic with me. She even mocked me at one time. I did not feel comfortable in the class after that.
This is an excellent instructor. She knows her stuff and expects you to work very hard. I may not have passed the class but I know the shtuff as she calls it. I would not call her unfair nor unclear. She's good!

I think Nancy Roper is an excellent instructor. She is very good at what she does and she enjoys doing it. The class is not easy, but she outlines everything that needs to be done to pass the class. She teaches you how to be neat and precise and all you have to do is follow instructions. She is very smart and always willing to help.
She's a great teacher, one of the best math instructors I've had, if you attend class, you should have no prob. She is very sarcastic and makes fun of you, but it's all in fun, I strongly recommend her!
AAAAHH!! Run the other way!
If you want someone from the old school who will give you a challege, then take her. But be forwarned fellow student...her average grade in her class is a C. Be prepared to study your butt off. She explains well, but is just so difficult. Defintely a Arbeit Mach Frei.
Very hard grader. I worked my butt off, and I still got an average of 75-80 on my worksheets and tests. The grading system is unfair because no matter how you understood the concepts, your grade did not reflect well your efforts or understanding of the concepts. An excellent teacher, but rigid. You need be close to perfect, then you will survive.
I would not recommend this teacher because she does not respect her students. She definitely knows the material but she makes fun of her students. Don't take her.
Never ever take her. EVER. I would have a 4.0 this term. Not anymore just hoping I pass! haha finals next week the study guide is front and back of and 8x11 with just topic names. Thats all it is. I pretty much hate her class haha you could do well if you sit in front and pay 110% attention every single day for two hours solid. Otherwise...you wont
i do not reccoment her if you like to visit during office hours....she repeats over and over to "do the homework and visit her instead of the math tutors" so i visited her and she basically said "no i can't help you" and it was the same thing in class...if you were pretty she helped you and me she just ignored- time waisted in class with rambling!
Horrible instructor. She really knows her stuff, but she is so mean. She thinks she is the Queen of Statistics
This instructor is decent, but the test are hard. They will begin with multiple choice and then the problems. I recommend tackling the problems first. I always ran out of time. I didn't feel comfortable in the class, the first day she laughed at everyone that didn't have their t-89's and I hadn't taken Stats 243 for a couple of years so I was r

I think she's pretty good. I liked her explanations of new math concepts which she does on the overhead projector. She definitely gets cranky when a student ignores her rules (eg no cell phone use), but the students in question deserved it! I got an A but I did not always understand her answers to my questions, but she was always nice to me.
Nancy is not one to BS. She scared the hell out of me and you really need to push yourself. I miss her now because I actually learned in her class. You need to be on top of things. Don't whine, be on time, go to all your classes and pay attention. This class was hell, but getting that A felt amazing. Nothing in this world worth having comes easy.
If you take a class with Roper, you really must attend every class and pay attention. Don't ask questions that she has already answered! Listen to her rules. She's great for serious students, but she's hard on unserious students.
This professor can explain things clearly, but she is really mean! She deducts points from grammar mistake. Please make sure you have a good english standard before entering this class. I will not take MTH244 with her
Excellent Professor!!! She grades fairly, ur points are EARNED not GIVEN. She explains all questions asked, she helps students during office hours. She is very organized and it was easy for me to grasp the concepts of Statistics, and this is coming from someone who withdrew the first time I tried taking Stats with a dif. prof.
not a very nice woman, but a good teacher.
ONE OF MY WORST EXPERIENCES. WAY TO HARD, DISRESPECTFUL, AND GROMPY. I ATTENDED EVERY SINGLE CLASS, I DID EVERY HOMEWORK I WORKED TOO HARD DURING THE WHOLE TERM JUST TO GET A "C". I'M A GOOD STUDENT BUT SHE RUINED MY GPA CAUSE SHE IS SO PICKY! DO NOT TAKE HER!!SHE'LL KNOCK DOWN POINTS JUST BECAUSE SHE WANTS. RIDICULOS! DO NOT EVEN BOTHER! SERIOULSY
Tough teacher but good. Very picky on work. Excellent lectures. Can be a little scary. I am choosing to take her another term because she was my best teacher last term. Quick to return assignments and tests. Nancy really gets her material and is excited about it. Yes, you must pay attention and attend class. This is a very complex subject.
Complete waste of my time and a blow to my GPA. She's condescending and self righteous. When asked to explain something, she rolled her eyes. I'm a pure math geek and have always done well. Her "study guides" do not help. I took her class in hopes to learn statistics, I learned very little from her. I will retake it from another instructor
GREAT teacher if you want to actually learn something. Her lectures were helpful. It's a tough class and she does actually expect you to understand the material, but she's not overly picky and she'll tell and show you exactly what she expects to see on exams and homework.
extremely hard
I took her for 243 and 244. The first term was hard, but as soon as I got to know her requirements I was fine. She is a good teacher. If you are in college to learn and not to get a good grade, take her. You might get a B or even a C being a good student, but you will get much more from her class that just a grade.

I hate stats. I loved her. Easy. Great teacher. Tells you exactly what she wants. As long as you do it, you've got an A. She taught so well in class, I got an A without doing any of the homework (just the worksheets). She comes off as Attila The Math Hun, but get a spine and you'll be fine. <3
never taking her again. made me hate math.
Very straight forward teacher. I got an A in her class, after taking a stats class with coates and not passing. Roper was clear and very helpful. Her notes are very good and she tells you what she wants. Don't let her intimidate you, if you have a question ask it!
Nancy is a great teacher. She makes sure you understand the examples, and tells you everything you need to know for the worksheets and tests. Try not to miss a class because you will fall way behind, and it's hard to catch up. Doing examples in the textbook helps a lot; this probably enabled me to get an A.
excellent instructor. highly recommended. She explains every thing clearly and makes u study hard. i learned a lot for, her class. the grade u receive worths the effort that u put in the class ^___^
She is a great teacher, and knows her stuff. The only problem is, she doesn't really answer any questions :-/. Any time I tried to ask her one, she told me to visit her later... I eventually withdrew from her class because she is so cranky too >_<
She's been doing this for a long time. This means that she knows her stuff: very organized. But it also means she doesn't mess around. I never did any of the book work. Only worksheets and tests and I did fine. Just make sure you attend every lecture and actually pay attention. Detail oriented!
Great teacher. Workbook very helpful. Study example from that and you should be fine. Very helpful teacher, ask homework questions, she'll answer. Class based on 3 worksheets and 3 exams. Very picky about details, but explains right way to do things. Would definitely recommend taking 243 and 244 from her
I was terrified of taking stats. I could not have asked for a better person to lead me through this material. She was enthusiastic, tough, has a quirky sense of humor and is no-nonsense. Wish she taught Calculus.
I'd taken the course once before, and failed for a number of reasons. Ms. Roper made the class interesting, and the subject matter both relevant and understandable.
Shes is a good teacher, she knows her stuff but you have to work for your grade, she wont grade the homework but unless ur Einstein at math you will HAVE to do it. She expects you to do so. Test are a little hard but nothing impossible if you studied. If you dont like work maybe just dont take her
Great teacher. Has developed a great curriculum and an incredible workbook to supplement. Recipe for success: attend and pay attention to lecture, read and follow along in the workbook, read the chapters, and do the homework worksheets. Do this and you'll not only do well, but you'll actually understand the basics of statistics.
Worst teacher ever!! She does not teach you anything, she makes you teach yourself. If you ask her a question, she makes you out to be an idiot. The absolute most unhelpful professor I have ever had. Unless you are really into math and are looking for a REAL challenge don't take her class. She is also a VERY critical grader!
Last comment sums her up perfectly!
The workbook she has designed for this class is brilliant. You never have to take notes, all the directions are clearly laid out for you. The class is hard, but you will actually learn a lot. She expects the best, you need to show comprehension of the material. One of the hardest classes I've taken, but she is fair.
She's a great over-all math teacher, very helpful, and tends to the students. Try hard and do homework, you will get an A.
Boo!! I mhave to admit that she is a good teacher: all of the material is laid out for you very clearly. But, she is an EXTREMELY hard grader. Messing up on the smallest thing, even if you work out the problem correctly, will RUIN your final score. On that note, I would NEVER recommend her to someone else.
She knows statistics. However, that is her only positive. She grades extremely difficult, even if you get the right numerical answer, she will somehow find an error. I have taken higher math classes and excelled in them. Although I got an A, her grading is completely off basis and is totally irrational. Do not take her if you have a choice.
She is the crankiest and unnecessarily hardest grader i've ever met. She is so moody, im scared that if i ask a question she will bite me. Do not take her, spare yourself. Her tests are exaggeratedly hard, and she has no remorse. Worse money spent in my life taking this class. STAY away. I have no idea who shes been teaching this long.
Nancy is nice, clear and helpful but she grades very hard. I found most of these posts were correct when I got into the class. She DOES grade on spelling and grammar(says on the quizes/tests themself). I tried very hard and still got a C. She's VERY critical on grading. She's great and clear but if grades matter to you, don't take her. Good Luck.
I've studied in Europe. Ms. Roper has a European university professor style. No nonsense. The U.S. could use more teachers like her. Wise up America!
She's a tough grader, but she's fair and she knows her stuff. She also gives extra credit questions on her exams to make up for her tough grading system. She gives fair warning about what she's going to "nitpick" over. She does an excellent job of clarifying a difficult subject.
This is a real class. You're going to learn TONS, but its not going to come easy. She runs the class like a real professor, not like most of the "teachers" at PCC. She's as hard and cold as stone, and is by far the best math teacher I have EVER HAD. She made stat understandable and looking back, I got the grade I deserved.
I had never taken a stats class before and I loved her as a teacher. She's organized, clear, an she know's her stuff. Pay attention and you'll do great.
she created a well organized packet containing all notes you will need for the term. This made learning the material in class much easier(no note taking) Have an A in the class so far, but study about 3 hrs a day. Shes a great teacher if you want to understand stats, but beware! shes a HARDCORE TOUGH teacher/grader! no spelling errors on tests etc.
Where to begin. She is a teacher so set in her own form of rhetoric any deviation from EXACTLY her way of completing statistics is rewarded with missed points, blank stares, and cyclical arguments. Having taken far more advanced Statistics in the past, this course is a comparative joke. Stay away if you know anything about Stat prior to taking.
She is a great teacher. Very organized and has been teaching forever. She allows plenty of time to answer homework questions, and she supplies a packet that covers everything. However, missed points on workesheets and exams add up! Everything has to be exactly right. Overall, its really nice to have such an organized and seasoned teacher.
I'm a business professor and considered by colleagues to be an excellent communicator. My work for this class came back covered in red ink. How refreshing - an instructor willing to take the time to help students improve communications. Cherish it. Study hard. She's a tough teacher with high expectations. If you can't stand the heat...
I love Nancy's organization and structure. She's not super friendly but she has been doing this forever and knows exactly how to teach it. I don't even need to take 244 but am thinking about it just to take her again.
I had Nancy for both 243 and 244 and was kind of reluctant to take her. Now I wish all my teachers would follow her lead. To many teachers are wishy washy about grading and expectations, not Nancy. She should teach a class on how to teach for other teachers really. And she is very nice don't be fooled by first impressions
Difficult grader, great teacher! She has her way of teaching and I love it. If you want to learn statistics, learn it from her.
Nancy Roper will give you everything you need to succeed in her 243 and 244 classes if you are responsible enough to be accountable to learn. She does not "spoon-feed" students but will do anything to help you learn that she can. If you want to understand the material, she is excellent. If you just want to pass with an easy grade, pick someone el
Man this class is hard! she is the hardest grader ever! but she is very consistent and tells you from day one what she expects. so it was not a surprise but i feel every time i go to class i come out with a huge headache!
Roper is an excellent teacher. You will learn the material in her class. However she's also the toughest grader I've come across at PCC. If you want to learn, take her, if you want an A, take someone else.
Nancy is not tough, she just doesn't put up with any crap and won't spoon feed you. If you're too cool to come to class, you won't do well. Best teacher at PCC, hands down. You will learn lots, but yes, gasp, you will have to do work! Most PCC students can't handle that.
Excellent teacher, not for the faint of heart who want an easy A though.I was supposed to take Stats with Muzos, but she retired and I ended up with Roper. The material isn't difficult, but there are only 3 worksheets,2 tests, and the final which are graded, and your whole grade depends on you doing well on them.No extra homework points for cushion.
Fantastic instructor who expects you to learn and be responsible for your work at a university level. Your work must be perfect, but she tells you in no uncertain terms what she wants. Extremely fair and provides opportunities for bonus points on tests and final. Loved this class!
She demands perfection but if you pay attention in class, do your practice homework, and ask questions you will easily pass the class. Be aware there are only 3 graded HW assignments, 2 Midterms, and 1 Final so you have to do well on them. You don't have take any notes because she provides you with them and working examples. She's very organized!
I would not recommend this teacher at all. Not very helpful, Only early morning office hours. And not very good at grading papers. I'd either get a good grade or very poor grade. She does not explane her grading very well after the fact. This lady needs to retire! Wish I would have done more research before taking her class...
Toughest class I've had so far, but Nancy is extremely organized and knows the material inside and out. Very harsh grader, so triple-check your work. Homework is optional and for practice, but you won't do well without it. I spent 6-7 hours a week working through homework problems.
Nancy has been teaching statistics for over 30 years and knows her stuff. She provides you with everything you need to succeed. Yes she is very nitpicky about how you report yours answers, but it is not unrealistic. I had her for both 243 and 244. Her teaching is easier because she teaches you lots of calculator shortcuts unlike other professors.
Nancy knows her stuff, she is the self-proclaimed stats guru at P.C.C. however she isn't patient with students and makes condescending remarks if a repeat question is asked or she is asked to repeat herself. The material is thorough and the workbook is a nice supplement.
