Nancy is one of the best professors I have had so far. She cares about her students not only passing the class, but having a clear understanding of the content. She will explain things until everyone understands. The content is difficult but she makes it very understandable. I wish she taught managerial accounting. I would take her again for sure.
This is the second time I had taken Financial Accounting, once with a complete different professor and then this time with Nancy. She is by far one of the best professors I have ever had! She made learning about this topic fun, which made going to class easy! If you give Nancy 110% she will give you 110% I highly recommend taking any class w/her!
An awesome instructor!! I felt Nancy truly cared about every student in the classroom and wanted to make sure we were set up to succeed. She gave great lectures and encouraged class participation. She always took the extra time to make sure everyone understood the content she was covering. I would definitely take her again!
Nancy is one of the best professors I've ever had! She goes over problems related to the lectures and homework and made sure students understand the concepts. She cares for her students. I've learn more than just accounting in her class. I wished she teaches mangerial accounting. I would definitely take her again.
Nancy is the best professor I have ever had. She truly cares about every student and wants them to be successful. She has an amazing personality and is very understanding. If you put in the work and effort, she will support you.
Nancy is one of the best Profs I ever had. Her lectures can be long but it's nice that she works on problems with us. She is very accessible outside of class to answer questions as well. Her sense of humor makes the long lectures bearable. I really hope that she would teach the managerial accounting. She is a very caring person, I love her.
She really cares about how you do in the class and will take time with you to get better if necessary. Just ask her. Describes the material very well and uses great PowerPoints to explain what she is talking about. It will help a lot if you print out the class notes and use those. Don't skip class or else you might fall behind and be confused.
Nancy was awesome! She made sure that we understood what we were learning and learned fun life lessons along the way. Technically attendance isn't mandatory, but if you show up ON TIME to 90% of the classes, you get 100 points extra credit, which ends up pushing you up an entire letter grade (even though I didn't need it, it was still nice).
I took Nancy's online Intermediate Accounting class. It started out well - she quickly updated grades, gave a weekly announcement, had video lectures for each chapter. However, after spring break, she ghosted the class. Grades have not been updated in nearly 2 months. She hasn't posted a review for our important NOCTI exam, which is in 5 days.
Nancy is a great instructor. I would recommend taking a course with her.
Not my favorite class, if you show up to every class you get extra credit enough to get you an A, so it's an easy class to pass. However, I did not learn anything in this class and the lectures were really boring. I mostly sat in class and didn't listen, but because I was at every class, I got an A. Go to the tutoring center if you need help.
This was an easy A. Nancy is a very nice person. She really tries to be a great teacher, unfortunately I feel unprepared to level up in accounting. She's hard to get a hold of. Use the tutor center if you need help. If she gives you the mid-term study guide and says the questions will be pooled from it don't believe it!
Nancy is an amazing professor! Shes accommodating to students but still very structured.
Nancy is a very energetic professor that cares for her students. She is always willing to answer questions so her students understand the concepts fully. Her energy and enthusiasm made the 8 am class sessions easier to endure. She offers extra credit for attendance and drops lowest quiz and homework scores. I would definitely take her again!!
Shes super nice and is very helpful and answers any questions you may have
She's a good teacher. Everything you need to know is on the powerpoints!
Nancy is super fun and charismatic in class and does her best to engage everyone in the material. Accounting can be a frustrating subject to learn but she makes it fun. Lots of homework and weekly quizzes, but the study-guide you fill out in class will assist you and Nancy makes herself very available for extra help outside of class.
She's awesome and the class was super easy
Financial accounting was good. She was very worried about whether people understood the topic or not, but only if you spoke up or expressed concern. Attendance in the class really helps with the weekly homeworkand quizzes.
Nancy was a fun teacher. She always answered my homework questions right away. Would take her again.
Professor Nancy has to be one of the best teachers that I have ever had. She is always willing to help in and out of class and goes above and beyond a normal teacher calling.
Nancy has a lot of experience in the field, yet in my opinion lacks skills needed to be an effective teacher. Class time is focused on going through slides at a very fast pace. Very little time to struggle through practice problems which makes homework on you own difficult. Shes very personal and shows care, just tough going so fast in material
Prof. Shoemake was very personable, funny, and down-to-earth. She always seemed very concerned at how everyone was doing, and made herself very accessible if we ever needed help with anything. This was a challenging class for me, ( just because I am not very quick at learning this type of subject matter) but she actually made it enjoyable!
Nancy understands how difficult Financial Accounting is. She truly cares for all students and does her absolute best to help them. If her lectures go to fast she will slow them down for you. More teachers should care like she does.
She was very understanding with outside life beyond school. She was great and providing me resources (mentor info; problem solution ideas etc...) as well as being available outside of class when at times she was needed most. Very easy to work with, straightforward with what needs to be done to pass this course. Would have her again if possible.
I have learned so much in this course. Nancy is caring about students, she makes everyone feel comfortable, she encourages and inspires. During lectures Nancy explains examples and asks any questions. She provides very helpful Power Point presentations, and if you are in class and listen there is no way to get a bad grade. You will love her course
Best professor I've had in my life. She genuinely cares about her students as people and she wants everyone to succeed in her class. She makes classes super fun and she is good about giving extra credit or dropping quizzes. I wish I could take her again!! You will not regret class with Nancy I have only good things to say about her and her class!
lots of homework, she knows a lot about the material but her grading is hard to understand. In connect everything is worth 100 points but she only has three grading categories worth 3 points a chapter. Her extra credit is that you must post 3 times a week on two different days every week. Good Luck.
Very good professor! Her lectures and power point presentations are a great help. She is very knowledgeable and explains items covered in the course in detail. She is also available outside of class which helped me tremendously. She is a very caring, considerate and understanding professor and will take the time to help you when needed.
Lots of homework, which is required for this class. Excellent professor I wouldnt take it with anybody else. She will work with you and find you help but you need to be focused. Show up to class helps your grade. Everyone I know passed with a good grade.
Nancy was a great teacher. I wish she taught the next accounting class I need to take in my series. There is homework & quizzes weekly, but they are needed to understand the material.
Be prepared to never know your grade and to not get responses when you email her. Grading methods aren't made very clear and lectures are very fast paced for the difficulty of the class.
Nancy is one of the best professors at ARCC. She actually cares about her students and wants them to succeed! This course wasn't easy but if you put in the time and effort you can do well in the course with the help of Professor Nancy.. Would highly recommend taking business accounting with this professor!!
Class was once a week, just lecture and questions. 1st half of semester was great. Second half, she stopped showing up, wasn't reachable, cancelled classes, showed up after having a few, and we missed out of 4 chapters of learning and got a condensed final. If you need to learn the material, stay away. If you want the easy A, go for it.
Nancy was an amazing teacher, her class is difficult and she acknowledges that and is willing to help you in any way she can to make you understand the material. She wants you to succeed, she also acknowledges she makes mistakes and goes out of her way to fix them. Amazing teacher all around, if you want someone who cares about you, take nancy.
If you show up you'll probably be fine
Nancy is a great professor, just make sure you show up and participate with the class. Some of her classes can be unorganized, but at least she's funny!
Nancy is a great teacher with a great heart. Her class is funny and people are engaged. She gets sidetracked sometimes and lets examples take forever in class. She also does not enter grades in a timely manner (sometimes a month or more). However, she is a great teacher and her heart is in the right place.
Attendance is not mandatory but the content gets harder if you skip class.
Doesn't respond to emails and never updates grades. Rushes through slides even though the class is proven to be difficult for many students. The midterm was worth 20% of the overall grade and she kept reassuring everyone that it was going to be a piece of cake. Then the midterm came and more than half the class failed and dropped the same week.
Nancy is a real gem. She acknowledges the class/subject is difficult, but I promise you if you communicate and put the effort into the class then she will give you the benefit of the doubt. Make sure you try your best on the homework and quizzes and you'll be fine. However, I do recommend having the powerpoint up during lectures.
Nancy is a great professor for this difficult class. She understands that there is a lot of homework that can be time consuming. If you show that you put in the work for the class and actually care about it she will reward you. She also cares about her students. She establishes relationships with them and always cares about whats best for you!
Nancy Shoemake is a real human being, something that's a treasure for a student: warm, kind, and thoughtful. While the material for our class, Financial Accounting, was sometimes a challenge, I found her YouTube explanations very helpful. During the Covid 19 shutdown, she kept in contact with the class and adjusted our classwork fairly.
Nancy is my favorite professor at ARCC. She has a difficult class, but she knows it and will go above and beyond to make sure that her students are successful. That being said, make sure that you go to class and put in the effort for yourself or she may not be so forgiving. Would strongly recommend taking classes with Nancy!
Prof. Shoemake really makes sure you understand the material. Throughout her lectures, she will ask numerous times if anyone has questions to make sure everyone is on the same page. Mrs. Shoemake is also accessible outside of the classroom. If you are stuck on a homework problem, she will help you work through the problem until you understand it.
She does a wonderful job on what is a very hard topic. Accounting was like learning a new language and she never made any of the students feel stupid for asking questions and was always fair. If she said she expected something, she stuck to it and I like that a lot. She was the great to listen to and pretty funny. Great teacher.
I can't say this class was easy but if you work hard at it, you will definitely excel. Homework assignments were very helpful to prepare me for taking the quizzes. The chapter reviews on the other hand were lengthy so be prepared. Professor Shoemake is very knowledgeable and makes every effort to make the topics relevant. I enjoyed her class.
Tough class and she is very knowledgeable. I did have a hard time with her teaching style though. She didn't grade assignments in a timely manner, she was distracted a lot by her phone or other topics and goes too fast sometimes. She does help with homework and quizzes by preparing you and asks if people have questions. Available outside class.
I highly recommend you stay away! For example, every Tuesday there is about 280-320 question review due, on top of other homework due by the end of the week. If for some reason you absolutely have to take this class/teacher, I highly recommend it be your only for the semester.
Nancy is a great person and a caring teacher. Accounting can be a lot at first but if you try hard Nancy will work with you. Just be patient about her entering grades.
Taking a class with Nancy is wack. Hang on for dear life, try to have fun, and build a relationship with her. She is a gem!
Ms. Shomake was a great professor and was very helpful throughout the semester. She made a class I was dreading pretty fun to take. I appreciated her kindness and calmness throughout the semester. If you are taking any accounting class at AR I would take her any day over anyone else!
Great professor overall! The material was easily laid out, and the website used for the homework and tests never had any issues. She was very accommodating to the class with a clear and consistent schedule. When we brought up an issue, she listened and worked with us to fix it. Challenging but not overwhelming coursework with optional lectures.
Professor Shoemake is excellent at teaching. She provides chapter lectures in 3 ways (in class, a recording of the class, and online), extra practice questions and answers, a copy of presentations, and a board for questions. Each chapter has a review, homework, and a quiz; the amount is reasonable. Put in the effort, you will get a good grade.
Everything is on a website called Mcgraw, which is very annoying. Theres a 100-200 question review, 10-20 question homework(which usually takes a really long time), and a quiz at the end that doesn't even relate to the homework that much:) Also, she uses Proctorio so that's really fun to have... Lectures aren't that helpful either. good luck.
The tests are taken with cameras on through Proctorio due every week on Mondays following a lengthy 100-200 questions review due every Tuesday night that I found time consuming rather helpful. Homework is around 10-20 questions and a few questions have about 4-10 parts just for one question. Majority of the hw material is not even on the test.
Hands-on one of the best professors I have ever had! Zooms are optional, but you'll do a lot better if you watch them(Goes over hw & quiz answers on zooms)This is a difficult class but Nancy explains concepts clearly and does all she can to help you succeed. If you are debating between professors I recommend taking Nancy 100%! 1 quiz + hw per week.
Best professor I have taken at ARCC. Watching the zooms is vital for this class- as it is a 4 credit class and a difficult class. Nancy does all that she can to make it easy though. Midterm is an easy A and if you have an A at the end of the semester you don't need to take the final. You can use any resource on quizzes and hw and midterm.
Professor Shoemake is excellent at teaching. One of the best professors I have ever had. The class was extremely easy if you attend the zoom class and do the work needed. She's the best at reviewing homework, quizzes, and tests before you take them. I got high A's and B's on everything by just attending her zoom class, reading the textbook.
I took this class 3 times, 2 other times was with another teacher and i could not pass . I was so happy when I seen Nancy was teaching this class because i took her class with Financial Accounting and she was a great teacher. She wants to see everyone pass and shes willing to help you pass as long as you put in the work to help yourself.
Good class!
Take financial accounting with her, at first it's a bit overwhelming from quizzes, review and homework every week, but after the first few weeks it's easy to get used to. Now I'm just waiting for her to teach Managerial Accounting, I can't wait to take the next class with her!
Nancy was an amazing professor. She was so easy to get along with and helped with homework when needed. She works so well with her students. The class is tough but with a great professor like Nancy Shoemake it is easy to succeed!
Honestly one of the best business professors I have taken so far. I had her for Financial Accounting, and her attendance is highly recommended (there are various benefits like quiz answers and bonus points). Her lectures always consisted of good info, especially since the content is not easy. She is pretty helpful, and she wants you to do well.
Nancy is the best, very helpful and cares if you pass. There are weekly chapter readings and reviews, homework, and quizzes. But honestly they help you learn the material, so studying for quizzes and the midterm and final are not bad. The reviews take between 1-2 hours. The homework usually took an hour, and the quizzes were short 7-15 questions.
If you show up to the zoom meetings, participate, work hard on your Reviews, Homework and Quizzes you will get a good grade. The professor is always honest, you can use other students when you need help with Homework. It's a lot of work, but the only way to learn the material is to study the material. There's tutor help as well that's beneficial.
Nancy wants you to succeed in this class and will go out of her way to make sure you do. If you attend zoom sessions she will show you HW and Quiz so you know exactly what to expect. Those that say she was a hard grader did not put the time and effort in this class. She provides many tools for you to really understand the material. Great Class!
Nancy is a great professor who will take the time to make sure you understand the information. Since she understands that accounting isn't an easy class she will do everything to help you understand the information. She truly cares and wants you to pass the class. I heavily recommend taking accounting with Nancy!
Great teacher that strives in pushing each and one of her students to success.
This professor couldnt care less about you as a student and does not like to answer your questions, I asked several questions and got a one or two word reply or a sarcastic reply and just obviously didnt want to help me or get me in the right direction. I would never EVER take any course with this sorry excuse for a professor.
Inflexible, and doesn't seem to care much. Sets class up in a way that makes it hard for those with any life outside of being just a student. Have kids or work full time? Pray that this is the only class you're taking. Easily 15+ hours to complete weekly work. Wont share certain help with those who cant attend / are late to her mid-week 8AM zooms.
If you grasp the concepts easily, you'll like her and she will like you. If you struggle at all, don't expect much from her. She very much just teaches to the people that easily understand the concepts. Questions will be answered snarky and any help will be referred to a tutor instead. Lots of time will be spent on this class so be ready for that.
Nancy wants to see you do well in her class. You get a 10 min grace period if you show up late to the zoom. if you attend zooms she may give homework and quiz helpers. she also posts her videos teaching the lesson ,which is extremely helpful
I did not have any issues in this class and everything was very specific from what you need to get done. The class is pretty simple as long as you do your work and get it done on time.
Professor Shoemake is thorough, helpful, and caring. I enjoyed taking Financial Accounting with her so much I made sure to quickly reserve my spot with her for one of my Accounting courses next semester.
Took Financial Accounting under this teacher in an online class. The class was really well structured into weekly study and assignments that build on each other really well. The professor was always quick to respond to email if I had any questions and watching the lectures and reading the material gave all the answers to the homework and quizzes.
I took Financial Accounting as an online class and I absolutely recommend having Nancy as your professor. The class is well structured, every week: read the chapter, do homework and a quiz. Zoom meetings are not mandatory but if you participate she does help a lot, giving extra hints. You can drop your 2 lowest grades as well. Amazing teacher!
Future students beware, prof told everyone to rate her better here because she didn't like the low ratings. I guess there is a reason she doesn't teach ethics classes. As for the class itself, meh. I learned more from Google than I did Nancy. She seems nice, but not effective teaching (online at least. Maybe in-person is better?). Homework heavy.
Took Prof. Shoemake's financial accounting (2125) online. Week-to-week expectations are clear. Reviews are helpful, lectures are easy to follow. Homework can be challenging, so start early to complete it. Take advantage of your resources. Quiz material comes from lecture/homework, so it's important to keep up. Overall great job with tough material.
Lectures are very helpful. Online textbook was a good choice. Feedback was positive and encouraging.
The struggle is real with this class. You move through topics VERY quickly and have a lot of homework each week. Nancy loves students who grasp the concepts right away. If you're not keeping up, she will not help. Go to the tutor ASAP (its where she sends you anyway). If taken again, I would want a different professor that is there for students.
The only instructor I've ever had that didn't respond back to any emails you send her even though her syllabus clearly states she'll respond within 24 hours. She doesn't care about the success of her students. Her syllabus is wrong about when things are due. Easily 12+ hours of work each week. Worst instructor I've had. Do better.
I would not take her class again. Most of the material is read from the book, but the homework questions are not shown how to complete in the book. The lectures are slides going through every page of the book, and just reiterating what the book says. She doesnt explain how to relate the material from the book to the homework questions.
Please be mindful of taking any course with her. She is not professional whatsoever.. She has taken clients while teaching class, she will respond to texts and calls during class as well as talk to her employees. She can't sit and teach a lecture without some sort of disruption.she does not teach either. she reads directly from her slides. help her
All I have to say is listen to the other responses posted before know they are all accurate. I recommend if you have to take her because of mandatory credits due to your business degree then do it in Fall ONLY!!! Spring semester she prepares taxes so she lacks not helping students. Then Summer she wants other students to help you un a 8 week course
She responds to questions in a very sarcastic manner and will refer you to a tutor for any additional help. If you struggle, at all, with this class as I did, she will honestly not help you. She caters to those that understand, which is so backward for a prof. I'm hoping another professor will take this class up so I can get some help and finish.
Nancy is an accounting baddie, take her for real
The best professor I had this semester. She isn't the most tech savvy person so the gradebook wasn't always correct but she tries her best. She cares a lot and wants you to succeed. If you show up to class you will get hw answers. The first few weeks are important bc this class builds up. Once you get debit/credit & DEALOR you should be pretty set
If you want to succeed in this class you will need to put lots of time and effort into it. Once you understand the basics of debit/credit, the rest comes easier and makes more sense. Professor Shoemake wants her students to succeed, and she sets us up for success. She is very understanding, and she strives to make her courses better every year!
Professor Shoemake was basically impossible to reach. I had a question about a quiz and never got a response back. The homework takes a long time and she does not explain the topics well in the lectures.
Overall, her online class was okay. However, her online lectures didn't help me learn. The homework takes a while to do. The due dates for assignments are transparent and manageable. This class is one you don't want to fall behind. She does drop some low scores from each assignment. Also, you can avoid the final exam if you have an A overall. 2022
she is an amazing professor! i had family problems and she was so accommodating and gave me extensions when i needed it. she responds very quickly to her emails. the material of the class is hard but other than that this class was great for me.
Nancy is a great professor and truly cares about her students. She wants us to succeed, but that only happens if you put in the work. As long as you make an effort in the class, you will pass. There is anywhere from 6-10 hours of work each week. I highly recommend taking this class in person as you will benefit greatly if you show up in person!!
She's an amazing teacher that will will go out of her way to help you if you put in the work. She will help us do problems in class so you understand how to do them yourself. We get explanations to some of the problems on the homework as well. She is an even more amazing teacher if you plan to put in the work in class.
I was worried about this class but the professor helped me understand the concepts in her lectures. There is a-lot of homework so be prepared.
It is a tough class in general, but everything is laid out and the expectations for each week are clear from the start. She uploads her lectures from her in person class which helps a ton. As long as you put in the effort and use the resources, you will be fine in the class.
This class is very tough overall. I recommend reading the chapter before watching the lectures because her lectures may confuse you sometimes. She's always willing to help you if you communicate with her. If you're struggling and never reach out to her, she will not reach out to you. She'll kick you out the course if you are falling behind.
She is a very nice knowledgeable teacher that will do whatever she could to ensure you're getting the material and doing good in class, I took her twice and it never disappointed. Definitely recommend.
If you have medical problems I highly suggest not taking this class. She claims to be a fair professor to all students, I would disagree. Unless a family member dies or you are pregnant, she DOES NOT allow accommodations. Whereas if you are physically unable to complete assignments (say for surgery, in my case) its no exception. Quite "caring".
She is a nice and kind person, but as a teacher teaching materials and concepts, she is not the best. The way that she teaches is hard to grasp because she doesn't explain how or where she got an answer. Like instead of showing from point a to point b it was like going from point a all the way to point c.
Hey, if you want to actually learn the material, Nancy is the teacher to go to. She is very thorough and lets everyone know what is expected. That being said, in order to learn anything you have to put in the work, so if you want any easy teacher she is not that. She is good though, and is accommodating. Put in the work and you'll be fine.
I have taken 3 courses with this professor and had excellent experiences. I would not take 2126 with her though. I'm not sure if this was an extra course she was teaching but it did not seem like she cared about it and 10 or so assignments were graded after the course deadline. She also hardly responded to emails and when she did they were vague.
prof does not care for her 2126 class. she NEVER responds to emails, i emailed her to ask her a question on an assignment and emailed her multiple times and did not get a response from her for 2+ weeks and the class ended last week so i obv got a 0 on that assignment. very not fair, if you want to become a prof. do it right or don't pursue it.
Most eloquent and caring professor I've had. Had a rule about absolutely no late assignments, but gives homework answers in the in-person lectures. Actually took the time to explain things. 10/10
Professor is a mixed bag with being good and bad. Professor makes it clear what you need to do from week to week. However, the professor has often forgotten to grade work and upload the lectures and PowerPoint on time. Lectures are also wishy-washy, with them being helpful or adding nothing new from what was on the slides.
Professor Shoemake runs a challenging but rewarding class. While attendance is mandatory, she is understanding and accommodating when needed. Unstuck ai was a huge help for practice and review - highly recommend using it alongside the textbook and lectures.
This professor has recorded lectures that even she can't pay attention to. She is distracted by many other things including people walking by that she stops to talk to, her phone ringing, etc. When I asked for help she told me to drop the class and retake it in person. I have had no issues with online classes other than hers.
She has fantastic lectures. She was very strict about due dates and attendance, but I found that it helped me stay on track. The homework load is relatively light, just a chapter, homework, and a quiz each week. If you are in the seated class, she will give you the homework answers for being in attendance. Wish i had more classes with her
Inconvenient office hours. The lectures' audios were low quality with tons of background noise. Disengaged. No updates from her in over a month. Hard (if possible) to contact. I get that she's a CPA so she is busy outside of teaching, but this is an important class for business majors and if she can't stay engaged then she shouldn't teach at all.
This professor treats online courses differently, I assume her in-person classes she may be a better professor, but here none of my emails get responded by her and I rely on business tutor to get my questions answered. Due dates are all over the place, and overall a lack of care (and blatant copy-paste) all over. Changed my major, I'm happy.
