Easy class for native speakers. If you want to stay in it and is a native speaker, dont show that you know something. The school has an active policy to send you to the next level if you are too advanced. You will have to transefer up or drop the class
Doesn't know Russian as well as she thinks, but thinks she knows it pretty well. Hypocrite. Hard for natives to get a perfect score, since they can't possibly know more then she can.

Very sweet. Easy Class. Minimal effort needed.
all I can say is: THE BEST!
She is by far and away one of the most helpful, clear, understand, and sweetest professors at this university. If you ever wanted a professor with full passion, she is the one.
such an easy class, and tittler is a great teacher as well i recommend taking this course, it will get you interested in the russian language
Sweetest person ever! Plus you learn a lot about Russian Lit. Easy, and generally fun classes. Sometimes the lectures do go a bit slow, but not too serious.
Wow. I never thought I could do well in a lang. after French. SO GLAD I dicided to take Russian. She is so great that many who take 102 minor or major in Russian. She is WONDERFUL! We have about a quiz or test every week and homework every night.
She's a tough grader and only likes boys, so girls you better work extra extra hard. People say it's an easy class, but she just gets so boring that all you want to do is sleep while she blabs away for an hour. Just do well on papers and raise hand
Very nice until you make a grammer mistake on an essay or don't stay up with a reading. When this happens she changes from her alter ego "Nancy Tittler" into - THE DEVIL!!!!
Grandma Nancy is the coolest! Do your S$it, get the grade. Se knows Russian grammar very well, so if you are a native speaker get ready, she might know the language better then you think you know it.
The nicest teacher in the world. It's impossible to get her angry an you can do nothing and still get an A.
Terribly boring woman who seems nicer than she really is. Sounds like she is trying to be helpful, but in reality is a condescending lyer.
Great at teaching womens studies courses and an all around nice, nice, nice woman.
she is so nice. very willing to work with you one on one and is very flexible with taking tests early or late. very sweet lady
She is the sweetest!! and she truly wants to help you get a good grade. Absolutely recommend her classes to everyone.
She pretends to be very nice since she has a high pitch voice and smiles a lot, but really she is not helpful, only accepts her own opinion, and just sucks. the compositon class grading is so much easier yet its the same exact class...hate the tit!!!!

horrible boring ass classs....tittler gives you the grades that she thinks you deserve not the grade that you actually earned...the most boring f class i had to sit through

Absolutely wonderful...extremely approachable and always willing to spend time with any student. However, if you are rotten sorority girl who likes to talk and be disruptive to the class, she will definitely spot you and give you a bad grade, so that you never take any of her classes again.
Amazing teacher. Truly cares about her students. Does not, however, put up with crap from jappy sorority girls who take it in the ass. I would recommend her course to any student who wants to learn a lot and have an opportunity to make a good grade
All her classes are easy but boring. If you put any effort it you will get an A.
Great class. It was my first college comp class and I loved it. She is not by any means a lecturer. She wants to hear what you think, as long as you can back it up with evidence. She is always there to help, with both school and non-school issues. This was my 4th class with her and I going to be darn sure to take more!
good teacher, hard class
dont take it, its overkill
Great teacher. Dsicussions will be boring if you didnt read the material or are just not interested in russian literature. Helpful with essays and easy to talk to.
Took it as an intro course and then as independent study when I couldn't go for every lecture during the second semester. Wonderful, flexible instructor who really cared about your learning.
Dr. Tittler is perhaps the finest teacher from my experience at this school. Simply said, she wants you to learn and she wants you to pass. You must do the reading assigned and she will do everything possible to help you understand the material from class and how to best prepare your papers.
Prof. Tittler is one of the nicest and most caring teachers i've had in school. She truly cares about your interest, is very clean and enthusiastic and is always available for help. There's a good amount of reading but if you stay ahead, you'll do fine.

Prof. Tittler is one of the most genuine, caring professors I have come across on campus. As long as you put the effort in this class should be easy. There is homework every night, but it it's important for the class and is mostly very simple wrokbook assignments.
Professor Tittler is an extremely helpful and knowledgeable professor. Not only that, but her enthusiasm in her classes seems to rub off on the students, and it's hard not to share in her enthusiasm about the topic she teaches by the end of the semester. She is very professional in her approach to the various subjects she teaches.
ive taken all the russian classes she teaches. she makes it very easy to get an A. its hard to get below a B if u do the work
No point in being fancy about it, she ROCKS! A great professor overall, helpful and accomodating if you do the work. And if you do just that, do the work, you'll get a good grade.
I've taken four classes with Professor Tittler, and I highly anticipate taking more. She is passionate about what she teaches, makes class interesting, and she truly cares about her students. She is always available for help, and she is so quirky it's hard not to love her. If you are thinking about taking a course with her, I highly recommend it!
Had her for Culture and Civ this semester, but have had classes with her since freshman year. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a Russian major and she's my faculty advisor, but I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She encouraged me to pick my major, helped me design it, and still encourages me when I feel like Russian grammar is going to kill me. A+.
Prof Tittler is very nice and will always help out. Just do the homework every night and you will do well. Her class gets pretty boring sometimes but its definitely not very hard as long as you keep with the homework and study for the tests.
She's just really helpful and extremely patient, helping even those who struggle through most classes without slowing the whole operation down too much.
She is an amazing professor. One of the best at Binghamton University. She is knowledgeable, loves having stimulative class discussions, and the readings she gave us were great. Take her!!
After taking Russian 101 with her, I knew what a great teacher she was and decided to take another class with her. Even though class is 1.5hr long, it always seems to fly by- her passion for teaching and knowledge of the subject shines through. Always encourages unique student opinions, whether or not they may be right or popular,Amazing professor
Had her for 2 russ lit. classes. She's nice and helpful, but sometimes her lectures become confusing. Attendance is mandatory - factors into grade. Try to read books ahead of time because the load piles up and her pacing can be very tough. Did well in first class, not so well in second class. Reading ahead REALLY, REALLY helps.
very intelligent & passionate no-doubt. a lot of reading so you MUST plan to read ahead. good class, recommend taking only if you are truly interested in course. Quite a bit of work: two 5pg papers, one 10pg, 6 quizzes, motif journal, random article summaries, + lots of reading. excellent prof at BU
An incredibly passionate, knowledgeable professor. Readings move at a swift pace, it can be hard to keep up - though not impossible. Getting a good grade in the class is not difficult, she is more than fair; those who feel she is harsh are likely people who ignore her advice and help. Overall sweet woman with a hold of her material.
Extremely passionate about her subject and really nice. Very willing to help students, and her tests are easy as long as you study what she tells you to and do the readings. This was literally the only class I could take late in the semester and I really liked it.
She honestly cares mostly that you learn the language. She's a very fair grader and if you do the simple workbook homework every night, you'll learn the language.
Ms. Tittler is a nice person but i don't think that she teaches very well. I did not have her for a language teacher but i took a lit class with her and i found her to be way too ambitious with the material. It was as if she was trying to cram all of Russian literary culture into one semester. It felt like she thought hers was the only class i took
She's nice and is really passionate about her subject. But after the adddrop date, her class becomes unmanageable and time consuming. Im a science major and this class called for so much necessary work.
Tittler is an amazing person & passionate about Russian lang. and lit. However, I made the mistake of taking 2 of her classes during the semester. She assigns a lot, so much that I barely had time to catch up on my other work. Had I taken 1 class, I might've actually enjoyed my semester w/ her. If you're interested, only take 1 of her classes.
Lots of readings and homework assigments, but Tittler is an amazing professor with a passion for Russian literature and history thats contagious. Class consists of daily readings-usually quite a bit, weekly "study guides"-homework assignments, and weekly quizzes. If you do all the readings, participate, and go to office hours you'll do well.
She's the sweetest professor, she responds quickly to emails and is very flexible with office hours, but isn't a clear communicator. Russ 101 was straight forward, so it wasn't a problem, but Russ 110 was very challenging, despite doing all the work. Don't take 101 if you don't like being called on every class to speak. It gave me nightmares.
Great teacher who actually cares about what she teaches! She is the nicest teacher I've ever met! Quite a bit of reading but getting a B+/A- is no problem.
Very knowledgeable, passionate, and funny! Her classes are enjoyable to go to (if you do the reading). However, she assigns too much work to realistically be able to do all of if you're taking 16 credits! The readings are interesting for the most part. Essays are graded easily but quizzes can be hard if you don't take detailed notes.
Good overall, just be prepared for LONG papers, and LONG readings, with very short due dates. Usually expect to write 5 page papers in one weekend. However, she is very knowledgeable, very helpful when it comes to revisions!
If you dont mind reading until your eyes fall out of your head, then maybe this class is for you. She does not teach anything, just reinforces themes from the works you read. She like to ramble.
She is my favorite professor so far. She is extremely kind and sweet, cares about her students, and will provide help for anyone who needs help. Be prepared to participate. I highly recommend taking her class. If you pay attention and do the work, you'll do great.
I had her for both RUSS 101 & 102. The same textbook is used in both courses. She makes learning the language a gradual process and understands that it is confusing and takes work. She very clearly assigns dates to homework, quizes, and tests. There is homework every day. As long as you participate and study, and are actually TRYING, it's an easy A
Professor Tittler is the kindest professor I have had at Binghamton! She cares more about you actually LEARNING rather than making sure you know information to reiterate during a test. She cares a lot and is so passionate about what she does. She won't give you a terrible grade but won't just give you the A if you hand in mediocre work
I learned more in 3 months of Russian than I did in 3 years of Spanish. Incredibly encouraging and understanding. Note: Attendance mandatory, but lenient with excused absence, homework every night, but can be turned in late/corrected for full credit, vocab quizzes once a week - very helpful but annoying to stay on top of. Great learning experience
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. She made me want to cry everyday and made me feel so stupid. Unnecessarily hard and so much work for no reason. You cannot begin to comprehend what I had to go through with this monster.
Professor Tittler is a wonderful woman. She does assign a lot of readings and papers, but the work is very fulfilling. She gives great feedback and genuinely wants to help her students become better writers.
I have never encountered a professor that allowed bias to completely dominate their perception of students' work. She has zero sympathy nor empathy and like the other comments state... she is a monster!
Professor Tittler is one of the best professors i've ever had. If you do your work and try your best, you'll be fine. There is homework every day (but that's normal for language classes). She genuinely cares about her students and you can tell she's very passionate about what she's teaching. AN ANGEL TRULY!
The bright spot in an otherwise awful semester. You have to do the reading but it's all short stories so very manageable. The papers were tough but I'm an engineering major taking this for a gen-ed so take that with a grain of salt. The quizzes are very easy if you pay attention, and she gave out clementines during the final. I wish I had her more
A lot of work and takes off points for small things, but I learned so much and can watch movies in Russian effortlessly after taking a single class. Very heavy coursework it was probably the hardest class this semester.
Professor Titler helped me fall in love with reading, her insights and chosen pieces are truly well thought out. The discussions are productive and she works very hard to help you improve your writing skills. Any opportunity to take a class with her is one that shouldn't be missed!
Professor Tittler managed to make Soviet literature one of my favorite things to read. Her class is a lot of reading, but the quizzes are manageable and she'll meet with you personally to workshop your papers to make sure it's the best quality work. Very sweet woman, and I wish I could take this class again.
Professor Tittler is wonderful! I am so glad I took this course with her. I feel like a grew a lot as a writer and honed the finer skills that other professors gloss over in her course. The reading was a bit long at times, but she chooses a wide variety of interesting material, so it's definitely manageable as long as you plan ahead.
Prof Tittler was extremely biased with her grading and seemed to go in many directions with her attempted lectures. Most of the readings were mundane. your ideas about certain things will be dismissed if they don't align with her's. Her critiques were unclear (esp. with grammar and syntax). Gave us our final paper 2 weeks before it was due, too.
Tittler is the kindest and sweetest professor I have ever had. Though the course is fast-paced, she takes the time to go through everything and is always willing to talk through things more. I don't think I could have done as well in this course with any other professor. If you can take a class with her I absolutely recommend that you do!
If u take her, your semester will be miserable
Absolute garbage professor. Worst I ever had. She enforces arbitrary rules that are not on the syllabus just after the withdrawal deadline passes. This class caused me extreme undue distress that even affected my performance for other subjects despite being a science major who only took this class for a gen-ed.
This teacher gives the worst essay feedback in the world. For one of my essay drafts, she took issue with my CORRECT use of a word and left critical marks each time I used it and got increasingly irritated that I wasn't addressing her feedback when I had NOT received any of it back yet. Completely unjust.
She is an incredibly tough grader, and there seemed to be little effort to help me improve as a writer. Instead of constructive feedback, I was met with accusations of plagiarism and using ChatGPT, which were completely unfounded. The grading approach appeared to focus more on penalizing students rather than guiding them toward improvement.
Do not take if you are looking for an easy gen ed. Do take if you are interested in improving as a writer and as a person. Professor Tittler rewards effort, regardless of your ability going into the course. Not an easy class, but incredibly rewarding if you dedicate the time and effort towards reading and writing.
The first thing that I want you to notice is how there has been an influx of bad reviews for her recently. This is for a reason: She changed. She expects you to read LONG stories late at night because that is apparently the only class that anyone has. She also gives atrocious feedback on papers and does not reward obvious improvements in writing.
Tittler is amazing. Kind, intelligent, super passionate, not the most lenient. Show up to class, do the reading (usually a lot) and most importantly pay attention, you will do well. Accessible outside of class, helpful/kind, will definitely work with you to help you improve. Her classes are amazing for interested students, not very easy gen eds.
If you are interested in Russian literature, you should take this class! I was hesitant to take this class at first because of the recent negative reviews on this website, but, in my experience, they are all unfounded. Tittler assigns great works that come alive through her lectures. I'd highly recommend this class!
Really rude professor and does NOT want student to succeed. Acts as if her class is the only one that exists and would take points off for no reason without a rubric. AVOID!
Rude and passive-aggressive, her classes were extremely boring and unengaging. Very impatient woman, and would often insult the class for forgetting certain words or case endings in Russian. Really tough grader, would take off points for minor spelling errors on homework and tests. Glad she's finally retiring.
If you take university classes to work, learn, and think critically, you will enjoy Nancy Tittler's classes. She is a wonderful teacher.
