HORRIBLE TEACHER! HATED THE CLASS! SAVE YOURSELVES!
nerdy and some what short when asking questions
worst teacher in the world
She's not exactly Mrs. Personality, and this is a hard class. So good luck, you're in for a long semester.
She's pretty hard, and vague, and tricky, and boring. 2 tests with a whole lot of unclear information. Avoid if you can.
not that bad but ...boring...unclear...sometimes funny i guess
she suckk:homeworks,2essays,2tests
kinda funny, kinda tough, kinda hard tests, kinda going now.

I loved Virts! She was really nice, and had a great sense of humor! Tests were hard though!
i just read the book and attended an ocational lecture and did well. pop quizes sucks but are kinda predictable. test questions are taken off of the practice questions she gives out... so its easy
good teacher if you like her sense of humor, she knows the subject very well but hard exams but in the end the curve is fair and if you miss a day its like missing a week so dont miss a single day of class...
It is better to read the book then to listen to her. Not very helpful. Avoid if possible.
As long as you come to every class, and get the tutoring, you will be fine. Make sure you read, etc. The tests are very difficult, but her grading scale is AWESOME. An A goes to a 85%, and you can get a 45% and still get a C. I passed with a C! :)
She is very helpful to those whom actually want to learn. As long as you read the book, do the practice exams online you will succeed. her tests and quizzes are fair and they're almost identical to lectures and notes-so u may want to pay close attention.
uses power point, study online questions she gives you, reading the book is helpful. her voice gets kinda annoying. kind of antisocial even through emails. if ? is t/f and u don't say why you get it wrong. whenever she post questions ur gonna have unannounced quiz soon. no attendance taken
VERY BAD TEACHER. THE WORST I HAD IN CSUN. NOT HELPFUL, DOESN'T LIKE TO LISTEN. TEST ARE TOUGH 2 TEST. NOT A GOOD REVIEW. SELF STUDY. I WOULD EVEN TAKE HER IF IT WAS MY LAST CLASS.
She doesn't like students at all. You could tell by her mannerism that she is very annnoyed when students ask a question. Overall she is not that hard because her grading scale is a joke 50% is a C, tests aren't too hard they're similiar to her website questions.
To get a good grade in this class you have to copy and memorize what is said in class verbatim. Teacher was very hard to talk to, no understanding of student concerns. Hard class didn't learn! don't take
all u have to do is study for the midterms and finals. very easy class if you show up and take notes. she is not very nice though.
Pretty easy if you come to class and take notes. She covers everything on the midterms and Final. **Study the questions she posts on the class website, they help alot!!!**
Unfortunately, we dont have any choice, when come to this class. She literally is very anal, she never answers any difficulties, she continously contradicts herself. And sitting to her entire class is living nightmare, definately take some caffeine with you.......AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS
SHE IS PRETTY HELPFUL, AND CLEAR. TOUGH GRADER THOUGH. WATCH OUT FOR THE POP QUIZES. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CHECK OUT THE STUDY QUESTIONS ON THE WEB ON REGULAR BASES.
should not be teaching
well.. a kind of difficult teacher..but,,just pay attention to her class, forget about book,,i never open the book..just keep working her homework in the web..if you understand homework and quiz question, you will easily get A grade.
She is very difficult, rather monotone boring. You have to do a lot of reading. She has 5 pop quizzes that come out of the blue, so be aware of those. She gives study guides, but she usually just gives lectures, boring ones to to top it off. i recommend avoiding this class at whatever cost.
She always smile, but at the time of grading, she smile at your grade and give u a big F
This is a very difficult class, but she's good teacher.
don't even think about taking her, stay away... one of the worst econ professors here at CSUN.
Don't skip class because mid-term and final focus on her lectures. Her lectures cover alot of information very quickly. Pay attention, write everything done and you won't get bored. Reading assigned chapters helps you to understand what she's lecturing about.
Overrall not bad.She is very strict. You have to attend the class and pay attention to her lectures. The Exams are from her lectures.Midterm is a take home test but not easy. Her grading is cool.50%is a C.Just go to class take notes you will do fine, but she scares students, not nice at all.

Great Professor. Go to class, take notes and you'll do fine. All tests come from her lectures but read the book if you dont understand something.
She gives very boring lectures - true about the hw though. Understand what is going early on- everything builds off of itself: none truer than in this class. Easy final but she's not easy on the eyes- at all. Take her only if you must!
I think she is the best, the clearest, and overall great econ proffesor. Lets face it, Econ is not for dummies. She makes the subject so interesting, that time flies by. I had her twice, and ima take her again
This professor is unclear and unfair she graded down on a paper even though it followed the instructions she showed on power point. over half the class never showed up to class and people who attended were never recognized in the grading scale.
She is the worst teacher...She opens the semester by telling the class that there is a 36% failure rate (real positive!). She rambles on and on and doesn't break things down. Tests are extremely hard so make sure you know the material. She goes really fast in her lectures and thinks everyone is an economist. Don't take her if you can help it!

She's a really hard teacher. The tests are impossible to pass even if you study your butt off. Don't take her. You'll regret it.
If I were to list all my professors from best to worst, Virts would be on top of the list hands down. She IS THE BEST PROFESSOR AT CSUN. All these people who gave bad ratings are idiots.
She flat out sucks, gave me a C- when I was improving...try and avoid this one. She is smart, but not worth it
All she does is lecture. Her lectures are pretty boring... almost everyone is falling asleep. If you want to do good in the tests make sure you read and understand the material on your own. Her lectures can be kind of confusing. Her tests are pretty difficult. I found that if you read and really study you should be ok with like a C.
Her Powerpoint slides are very useful, though it makes it so you dont have to come to class. you should though, because she explains everything more in depth. If you don't understand something, she will answer your question no matter how dumb. She has an AWESOME curving system. I got an A when I deserved like a C. She's kinda funny too.
Professor Virts is a great teacher, although her lectures are boring, it's clarified and easy to comprehend. Her tests are hard, but it's on a curve so that was a relief. A 50% was a C. She knows her stuff but, if you go to her office for help, she won't be much help, I guess she doesn't like helping students on one on one.
hell!!! she does not help with anything! expects you to know everything in class. no need 2 go 2 class bec its da powerpoints she posts up on her page. boring! can take 2 tests before da final, or just take one and have it count as da 2 tests. difficult! plus hard online quizes! good luck!
I've heard horror stories from her 160 students. She's in her element when teaching about economic development. It was a good class and it covered a lot of interesting stuff. Her exams weren't too hard and she graded the term papers very generously. I'd recommend the class.
She does grade the term papers generously. She's a k0ol teacher. It's a class full of 200 students so she can't really give everyone individual attention. She doesn't get mad when you asks questions, tries to help as much as she can. All in all she's an okie teacher. Not the best but i guess i'd recommend her
She comes into class lecturing without telling the students which chapter or topics she's talking about. She says umm X 100 per lecture. I don't think it's hard class but she is not a good lecturer. It's hard to understand what she's talking about. It's better to go over the book yourself. Would not recommend.
Weekly homework assignments on internet force you to read the material and also keep up with the lectures. If you do the homework, easy essay assignment, understand the study guides, and study then an "A" should be the outcome. I would recommend. Curved grading.
Her curving system is pretty good. I got high 70 s in my midterms which counted as B s. Her tests are not that easy. The final was pretty though. Overall not pleases with her class. If you can avoid, go ahead.
2 midterms, 1 cumulative final, 1 research paper. The material, by nature, is difficult to teach, but she tries her best by using several examples and offering practice tests on her website. She can throw a couple curve balls on her tests, so be careful! The research paper is easy; just follow her guidelines and have her look at your rough draft fo
Two midterms and a cumulative final, if you take notes in class you should be fine. There are also weekly homework assignments online that are very helpful. She also assigns one research paper, but that's so easy. As long as you keep up with the material, you should do well.
Teacher isn't very helpful. Her assignmenst are mainly online. You don't really need a book cuz they give you an online version. I rented out the same book at the library. Her tests are kinda hard, but if you study a lot and can work well independently, then you'll do fine. You maily rely on the book if you want to do good in the tests.
This teacher is ridiculous, do avoid her class if you cab. Midterms and finals are insanely hard. she lectures very poorly.
Homework is online. You use clickers for participation, attendance and quizzes. Exams are hard. Lectures are EXTREMELY boring. She tries though.
Unable to teach. Just reads off slides. Unable to keep everyone's attention. a lot of people ditch, I did. Lectures are boring and useless. Reading from her slides urself is a better idea. Popquizes and clickers for attendance. uses Aplia, tough hw/final/midterms but curved. I did not read or learn anything. Guessed the final and Aplia, got a C.
Prof. Virts was not bad at all. Let's face it- this class is not easy. If you don't study you won't have any chance of passing. She has good/clear lectures that make learning the material a bit easier. Midterm, cumulative final, weekly Aplia assignments, and two 4-5 page essays. Try not to miss class because she covers a lot each time.
Great teacher. Really enjoyed her class. If someone is a Econ Major must take her class. This class is not for dumb people. Passed with an A. Overall, she's an awesome teacher for Econ.
Do not take this Professor!
she one of those teachers that talk all day long... makes no notes, and accepts no excuses for nothing at all. the research paper is 40% of the grade... I had a passing grade... but I had a car accident on the day to turn in the research paper, and I emailed it to her... but she did not accept it because it was one day late.
Horrible teaching style and does not explain well. Goes off powerpoints, but for tests uses other stuff she "talks" about in class. extremely boring and not very interesting at all. I wish i picked a different teacher. ratings for her here are much higher than they should be. Trust me, im not a bad student i know good and bad teachers.this ones not
Ridiculously hard. I do not really like her teaching style (powerpoints) and i was in a big class so maybe that made it a bit harder but i would not recommend this teacher. homework once a week and 5 questions in class which count for your participation. The only positive thing about this professor was that she curves the tests ALOT. 49% is a C.
most interesting Econ class. really enjoyed it and learned A LOT. really knows her stuff. probably not the best prof for the slackers, though.
She is not that bad! The class is difficult but not impossible. Read in advance and take SI if u can. Powerpoints are useful since she posts them online, so u dont have to take many notes. Weekly aplia homework and attendance are a must! So is buying a clicker. Overall, I liked this class.
I find it interesting that for every 2 bad reviews counting exactly there is always a good review that pops up. I think the professor might be rating herself as she is not good at all-period. Avoid her class at all costs if you can otherwise seek tutoring as she seems inaccessible and unapproachable.
She is the most horrible teacher I had in CSUN. She did not like being a teacher at all.Her attitude is like I do not like to teach your guys at all. I went to her office hour she just tell me to read the book and she even suggest me to quit business major. Her teaching style is confusing and you do not need her as a teacher you just need read book
AVOID??????? UMM YEA AVOID HER. THANKS
WARNING: PROCEED WITH CAUTION! She is the worst professor on campus. She does not like to teach and just reads off her computer. The class is boring. Not helpful, tests are considered upper division exams. Economics is already difficult, she makes ten times more difficult. If you want a challenge take this class, if not don't do it.
It's a tough class for anyone to teach, because it meets only once a week in a big lecture hall. Her powerpoint lectures did not translate much to the tests. Her review sessions were not that helpful when compared to other classes and professors at CSUN.
Not sure of the class number but nevertheless she is boring, and lectures straight from the book - no reason to go to class. If you read the book you will do fine w/o going to any lectures.
I'm taking ECON 160 this semester and I am failing!! Homework is due online. You must come to class exactly the time class starts. She has us using clickers to sign in. If you ask qustions to clarify she responds to you as if you're mentally challenged. I would not recommmend her. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!
Very tough professor, and you won't know what I mean until you see her grading method. If not for curving, half the class would fail. She's very smart, in fact one of the smartest I have ever seen. Not for slacks or dumbs.
Very difficult class.. Best to record lectures and go over them after class. Don't take if you don't like Econ
She's terrible. Class is so hard and its useless to ask her for help. She treat her students as if they're all stupid and does nothing to help. NOT recommended.
Lectured right from the book - almost word for word. She put no effort into the material. I just went to the library during class time and read the chapters. She was boring as all heck, and did not seem one bit interested in the subject matter - which spilled out and affected my attitude towards the material too.
tough professor and a hard grader.the exams are essay questions and difficult. LEctures non stop which at a point gets boring. If u wanna pass the class u gotto take a lot of notess.midterm, paper and final. She expects u to know everything for the exams. if not for her curve more than half of the class would fail.
Tough professor. Grade is based on two midterms, one final, and Aplia assignments. Lectures are super lengthy but they are posted on the Aplia program. Had a hard time understanding her graphs and her examples because she jumps from topic to topic back and forth. Not recommended unless you're a person who loves to study your brains out!
Took her for Econ 348 and 375. She is a very hard grader and her lectures are boring. She gives review questions prior the midterm and the final. Just try to answer those and ull be ok on the tests. 55% is a C in the class, and if not for her curve more then half of the class would fail.Midterm, an essay and a final.
This was this most ridiculous teacher I have even seen. She does not help anyone at all. When you ask .her a question, she just put its on the board without really explaining how she came to that conclusion. I got an A in the class, but I liked economics before the class.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! She does not help just goes over her power-point, does not answer questions, and the test are very heard and unclear.
Prof.Virts is a good teacher. it is really hard to answer students' questions when there are over 250 people in her class. That's why all she does is lectures. Her exams are straight from the book and online assignments are helpful. Got A with no problem
Avoid Avoid.Worst professor I had
I took ECON 175 class. The midterms questions were based on the lecture and PPT, so you can not miss any class, or you have to work hard with the study questions she put online. She gave many extra credits and also helpful. I use textbook a little and my total grade didn't reach 87%, however, Dr, Virts gave me an A.
Avoid worst ever!
Your grade is determined by what you get on her 2 midterms, essay, and final. I can not sit in any of her lectures because its so boring. She teaches off of powerpoint and talks for an hour 1/2. NON.STOP. Good luck to whoever has her!
The teacher is perfect IF you enjoy lecture from start to finish. Like the previous entries said, your entire grade is based off of two mid-terms and the final. Fail one and you're pretty much looking at a C for the semester that is assuming you ace the other two tests. There is NO room for failure in this course. I wouldn't recommend her.
1 term paper, 2 midterms and a final + participation = your grade. exams are mainly based on the powerpoint lectures but they are boring... I found that study groups helped a lot for this class.
She is very clear about the subject she teaches, however lectures are long and dry. She will help you if you ask for it, but don't expect the answer to be given to you. Participation in her class is very helpful.
Her tests are tricky and powerpoints unhelpful. I consider myself to be somewhat of a genius, but I had trouble with this class. I would strongly advise you to pick another economics teacher. Take this review seriously. I know what I am talking about.
Very long lectures, you must read and you must pay attention during the lectures in order to do well on the exams.
She honestly care about students passing. She gives a few opportunities of extra credit so students can pass her class. She has the students best intentions. She was a kind professor and gave many examples of any topic until student understood it. Disregard any comment before this one.
if you don't know much about econ, DON'T TAKE HER. very long and boring lectures, her teaching methods didn't help either, I was confused 80% of the time just like my classmates. waste of my time
Would choose a different professor to make your life easier
Save yourself from the unnecessary stress and confusion this class brings. She condenses too much material in every class session and is awful at explaining it. Exams are difficult and NOT MULTIPLE CHOICE, WRITTEN ANSWERS ONLY. Her lectures and "review" sessions will not prepare you for the exams. Good luck teaching yourself this material.
Her lectures will get boring at some points. If you do not study and know the material, you will struggle to get a high grade in the class. Overall though, if you can make it through the lectures without falling asleep, the class is very well structured and she is very clear and will answer any questions you have regarding the material.
if you care about yourself do not risk your whole academic record this was the worst professor I have ever had
