He was okay, boring class. He gets very excited sometimes and says can I move on alot. Overall not bad and from what I hear, he's the best of the 3 professors.
Boring, and the class is not interactive.
I thought he was great. Class was very easy and he gets so excited when he talks that he mispronounces words. Took me two whole classes to understand that amazing.com is really amazon.com No textbook needed so save you $$!!
Great professor. Very funny, makes jokes all the time,I liked him a lot. Explains everything very well. Easy class in general.Highly recommended,
great professor...class is interesting and he is verrrry helpful if u dont understand something.
great teacher...he responds to emails from students in record time. Tests are sometimes tricky though.
He is great teacher, does not take attendence and the projects are very easy. His tests might be a little tricky, but not hard. Take him you wont get dissapointed.
Very enthusicitisc professor who actually teaches, unlike some of these other professors at baruch.
he's a very nice dude and knows what he's talking about. very patient with students even when we're falling half asleep on the boring material, lol. it's also funny when he speaks really fast cause no one understands him. his slides r really easy to comprehend and u have to be an idiot not to pass.
He is awesome. Nice and available outside of class. 2 midterms and 1 Final and 3 projects which are easy if you pay attention to his directions. He knows what he is talking about and gives a lot of examples. Not hard at all to get an A in his class, because his slides helped alot. Textbook not necessary
Awesome? Really? This class was so god damn boring I couldn't help falling asleep. His tests are 60, 50, then 70 questions long. You have to really study a lot to get a good grade. Not worth taking if you ask me. You dont have to show up to the lectures, so dont--since everything is in the text book.
No attendance, book not really necessary, slides cover 80% of the material. If you want an A though, read the book and come to class. Otherwise tests are all MC, 3 projects are very fair and he gives a chance for EC.
He's a very nice guy who doesn't care about attendence. The class lecture is borin though. His exams are ok as long as you read the book. Overall, really laid back professor!!
He was great. Some of the material was a bit boring, but made it interesting by using videos. I also liked that he use so many examples to make you understand. But, to get an A you have work.
I got an A- in the class. I got about 40 out of 50 on both exams. And I guess I did well on the final that wasnt that hard. Hes kind of boring and you have to read the book. Really not bad. Not strict with attendance only in the beginning. Boring lectures though.
He clarifies everything. Two midterms and final, not cumulative. If you want to get an A you have read the book. Most of the questions from slides
a great professor, very generous bout the final grades and exams are not difficult. just follow the slides and skim through the book. he actually teaches and know what he is talking about... sometimes the material can be very dry but i actually learn alot
Course was basic and not much to learn for all. Professor was very enthusiastic and has a lot to tell be has to restrain himself. wastes a lot of time by repeating things too many times.
Class was interesting, but had way too many assignments. I learnt a lot but this class was too much work.
Not accurate or organized. Should focus more on the importance of IT instead of discussing various technologies. Kept saying he didn't want to get into details and jargon, but spent majority of time doing so. Definitely did not increase interest in IT. Too many assignments.
For an "introductory, high level" introduction to CIS, there seemed to be too much work involved. Always said "we'll get to it later" but later never happened. Slides in .pdf format did not help, especially with him jumping from one slide to another.
The class was on the tougher side, but the professor was very helpful and enthusiastic. It would really help if the files were not in pdf form.
for someone in IT already three quearters of this class was completely useless to me. prof is not always clear as to what he tries to teach you. gets into way too much detail about technical stuff that non-it people don't care about and IT people know already. don't need a book but take notes on what he says in class.slides aren't that great either
You don't need to buy the book for his class, but you need to know the slides well for the exam. I thought that the prof. was good and had a lot of interesting things to say about IT. The review classes helped and so did the non-cumulative final and the detailed distribution chart for relative importance of topics.
As someone who works in the IT industry, I felt that this class did little to give students a view into the importance of IT in business. It was more like an introduction to random technologies.
Nanda is a nice guy but as a teacher... He just doesn't shut up leaving most of the class puzzled. He's helpful but if everybody's talking on dial up or DSL, Nanda is on T1 cable. The tests are not too hard if you have some knowledge in IT but don't expect to learn anything in class. Come to the review sessions, study the slides and do the projects
I thought he was quite good. My company is rolling out a CRM solution and the concepts I learned in class really helped me in talking to the various vendors and my bosses. The final project was also very enjoyable.
He was a very nice guy and clearly knew a lot about IT. However, his ability to command respect among students was very low. Students were constantly putting down his knowledge or other students and Nanda was helpless against them. Otherwise, take good notes and skim through the book. Make sure to pick out a good group for the project.
The class looks interesting. I loved the video. I also liked that we will be learning software in the labs.
He gives a lot of information during the class. If you stay interested, you will learn a lot. It can be hard to follow his lectures for someone with little or no computer experience. If you have any questions, ask, he is very helpful. Overall very good professor.
Great, nice prof!! Exams are easy if you follow what was covered in class.
just got an A- from him and i barely studied, jus came to class awake. Easy projects, and make sure to come to class cause the tests are based on what he says in class and not everything he says is in the powerpoint. Doesnt take attendance often. Great prof overall.
Very good class. Very good prof. Make sure you attend class if you want to do well.
Very nice, funny professor, respects student's input. Tests were very hard and you definitely had to read the textbook as well as take notes during class time in order to really know what the test will cover. makes the subject interesting and grades every test faster than any prof ever.. the class may be challenging but you'll learn a lot
Kind of easy class, multiple choice midterm/final. easy assigments. I didn't need to buy the book, uses slideshow to present the class material- you can study from that.
Great Professor!!! Highly Recommend him!! Such a nice and helpful guy - really excited about the topic and makes you want to learn about it. 2 exams, a presentation, and a paper ... sounds like a lot but he's a very generous grader!!! Take him if you can!!
All exams are from PPT and some text/additional readings.
I was not too thrilled with grading. Easy class, did all the work, but on many occasions I disagreed with him. Very nice guy, try to make the class interesting. Overall he did a great job.
Class was interesting and I loved the cases. Two exams and two projects, but some of the questions in the exams were tricky. Overall, a very good professor.
very nice. engaging. excellent presenters. test are not that difficult.
Kumar is a good guy and the content of his class is well-choosen. He just takes a lot and very fast. Also whenever there is a class discussion he can't wait when you stop talking so he that he can speak. Not a negative thing but different. He is well orginized and has good slides. Brings good speakers. I would overall recommend his class.
easy going guy. no attendance, 2 midterms, final, 3 small projects (excel, access, html). material is not hard, just have to read book and his ppts. a few of the questions are based on videos and things he only says in class. overall, he explains the topic well. his presentations were very organized any easy to understand. very straightforward.
Very nice professor for this class
Great professor, he is very fair and approachable. Attendance didn't matter, maybe b/c this was an Honors class. He also tells you the exact pgs that'll be on the exams. Very free-reining class, and he is very friendly and good-humored. Perhaps the best class I had this semester in terms of actually learning!
nice dude. i feel bad for him cuz half the class is asleep. attendance not mandatory. his tests are somewhat from his lectures, but its hard to pay attention cuz the stuff he talks about is so common sense, yet his tests are riduculous. do his projects, whcih are easy, and u'll be fine.
this dude is hilarious. he basically uses his middle finger to push up his glasses!! haha i think i was the only one that noticed that cuz i was the only one that paid attention.. lol
never takes attendance. but sometimes his class notes are not in the book and on the test. all memorization, memorize everything and you'll get an a. but memorize EVERYTHING- class notes, chapters, videos, and projects (in class and easy). may go fast but slows down if you ask. no curve-what you get is what you deserve. overall interesting class.
Very nice guy. 3 projects. 1 midterm. The exam is hard. He gives 27 readings(most of them 10-20 pages long), 2 youtube videos & 50 questions b4 exam. Some of them will be in exam. The problem is, after you read a few times, you still dont know the answers to his questions. Very frustrating! If you dont have strong IT background, don't take it.
Prof is helpful, but the mid-term is a killer. He gives you 50ish essay questions and he picks about 10 of them.
Great professor. Accessible class, even to the less tech savy. Average quiz grades are in the A- range, but the project grades can easily pull you up to an A. I rented the text book from the library, and I felt it prepared me well. Sometimes his test questions are not clear, but you can usually decipher what he's getting at. I strongly recomme
this professor does not demand much from you, however, his tests make up the overwhelming majority of the grade and yet his questions aren't really phrased clearly... you shouldn't have to "decipher" what he says on a test, it should be clear.. you'll probably get a decent grade in this class but i feel he could have done a better job teaching
Very good professor. Reasonably easy projects, but tough mid-term. Prof did not use slides but used discussion format. Probably had to read the most for this class than I did for any other class at Baruch.
Good professor. Learnt a lot, but would have preferred to have fewer assigned reading. Had to work a lot for the mid-term exam (partially open book).
prof is nice, but the class is terrible and the mid-term (only exam) is very very hard. Projects are fine. Don't take this if you are not ready to take a bar exam.
Terrible class! Don't take this one unless you absolutely have no other choice. Didnt learn anything, tough exam, professor has accent, and boring class....
Good professor. It was an interesting class and I learnt a lot. He is understanding about make-up exam but I was not too thrilled about the fact that the make-up exam had essay questions in addition to multiple choice questions.
3 assignments: excel, access, html. tells you exactly what to do-EASY. 2 midterms 1 final all multiple choice. shouldve been an easy A but got an A- b/c some Qs were from lectures and i was usually asleep or not there. sort of needed the textbook cause i missed a lot of stuff and his slides weren't very detailed
Excellent! Great flow and control of the lecture. Content of the lecture is kept very relevant to the class topic. Very helpful as well. Highly recommended to take his class.
Very informative course taught by a highly engaging professor. Conveys concepts in a manner that is clear to understand. Enjoyed it immensely.
Informative, engaging, relevant, and well-organized class. Highly recommended.
Great professor. Interesting class with just enough challenge. Take it without hesitation.
This was the first time he taught the class split/first time it was offered that way. I'm not sure if thats why i feel that I learned nothing. I see no reason why this course is included in the Accounting program. Kumar is fairly easy, but its hard to follow him sometimes (guess its a language barrier thing). I'm taking someone else for CIS 9002.
Very interesting and fun class. My only complaint is that there were way too many blog assignments (but I loved the last three of those). I strongly recommend that you take his class.
Hard to understand since he talks fast and has a strong accent. Some useful information presented, he explains it well. The info is a bit basic for a graduate class, in my opinion. Add'l book: 142214660X
Professor Kumar provides a very good introduction to enterprise level information systems and effective ways to leverage such systems to make sound business decisions. I wished I selected a more motivated group for the final paper though (I thought it was OK as long as they knew how to speak English). Overall a great introductory class.
Professor Kumar is very straight forward and knows the subject well. Most of his exams come from his powerpoint but it is important to do the textbook readings as well. Pay attention in class, put in some work, easy A.
Professor Kumar is very straightforward. Just study his slides, do the textbook readings and the projects and you should be fine. The test questions can be tricky though.
Professor Kumar is really nice and he teaches in a clear and concise manner. His accent can be a little hard to understand but overall, just go to class, read his slides and the assigned reading and a good grade is guaranteed.
Dude, this guy is so stellar, bro. If I had to take him for a CIS Major, I would have taken him for all my classes. Brooooooooo!!!!! I didn't even attend class because I was at work and still got an A-. Dude, this guy is the man, bro!!!!!!!
He's pro technology, a nice guy and overall very helpful in terms of feedback. He's very approachable and knows a lot. Sometimes, the class seems boring, but you can manage and he plays a lot of videos so they are entertaining to watch. His tests are fair if a bit tricky and the labs were pretty easy. Overall, I had a great experience. RECOMMEND.
Take him! You will learn a lot of useful information in this class, and he makes it not boring. His energy and enthusiasm as well as his knowledge is much appreciated. One of the best classes and professors I have taken at Baruch so far.
He is a very good professor, teaches subject matter passionately and makes you want to learn it. Group component of the class helps you make friends and work cooperatively on one large assignment and several homeworks. Two in-class assignments are pretty challenging. He is a monster tho because he scheduled an exam Wednesday at 9 pm b4 Thxgiving
cool professor, intelligent, answers emails quickly, gives breaks during the long lectures, easy final. difficult midterms, long textbook readings (must read to pass). easy final for those who studied.
Lectures are interesting. Shows a lot of cool videos that help you understand the topic. There are only a few projects, a couple of which are group projects. There are also many, in class, group activities. Tests aren't hard but easy to mess up on if you don't take good notes or read the textbook. Easy grade if you pay attention.
Easy A. He's very clear when he explains the material and is willing to help you. No reading necessary. Don't waste your money buying a textbook.
He has a very heavy accent i could barely understand his lecture. His test(3) are confusing take good notes and read the PLUGIT! section at the end of the book. His test were based on lecture (mostly) some parts of the book. The Excel, MS Access, HTML assignments(10%) were easy. His lectures are very interesting and makes you more knowledgeable.
His 3 tests were super hard / tricky. His accent is very deep and difficult to understand at times. Avoid at all costs.
Tests are more like testing your wits than your knowledge. They are very tricky. He doesn't assign a lot of work but the projects kill your grade. His accent especially is just something else. I'm a straight A student and I would not recommend this class.
He's pretty straightforward in terms of his expectations for tests (Midterm and Final) and projects (Access, Excel, HTML) but his grading criteria for written assignments are vague. Just do everything he explicitly states in his instructions and you will do well.
25% myprogramminglab. Two midterms 30%. Final 30%. 15% group project. His exams asks for the most random things that you wouldn't even think you had to remember. He allowed a cheat sheet for the second midterm and final.
I took the hybrid version of this class. Midterm and Final and online HW assignments. The online HW's were pretty straight forward. The midterm and final are from the slides and from the textbook. Easy A if you skim textbook.
I took Business Intelligence this semester. We used SAS Enterprise Miner in this class, however, the software is only available in 2 labs in school and there was a license issue for about 3 weeks. So the professor let us do presentations in consecutive 3-4 classes, which were not very efficient in terms of learning all things he listed.
He's a good professor is the sense that he teaches you the basics and claims that this class is for beginners while his test questions and his in class exercises are crazy hard. He gave us a test question worth 20 points and told us "I didn't expect you guys to solve that" like why would you even make it worth so much. Also takes a month to grade.
The class was very helpful in learning programming that was useful in my work. The professor is very helpful and explained concepts well, but the course covered too much. I had to end up working more than I planned.
The professor was very good and the course was a lot fun. One quiz and one exam. Be careful in choosing your group members as the final project needs access to a real company.
I wouldn't recommend him. His class was interesting and you will learn but he is a tough grader. His exams are cumulative.
His class was okay at Best But he is a really tough grader. First exam was fine because its based on what we covered. Second exam was a bit harder however the final seemed impossible since the difficulty was too much for someone who is just starting to learn python I dont know they didnt have the option for the right code which is CIS 2300
Dude needs to realize he's teaching grad school and not undergrad. Makes changes on the fly. Talks with an attitude. Expects students to spend their lives on his one class. Seems to be intentionally intimidating. I'm sure you can do better. Avoid if possible (at least for grad school). Thinks he's teaching undergrads and doesn't see the difference
Not sure why his rating is so high. Good at explaining but coding exams are so difficult. He kept saying the class is beginner friendly but the average for the midterm was a 70, and he doesn't curve. Barely anyone was able to finish the midterm. Gave the group project so late in the semester. Quizzes are easy if you follow along with the class.
Lectures will not really help(only 1 hour). 2 easy mcq quiz, fair midterm, but final was unexpected harder than the midterm. To pass, read the section of textbook he posts, and go through all the lecture files. Videos can help. Course is basic python, with a bit of web scraping at the end which can be difficult. Weekly hw take around 15 minutes.
The professor gave a 1h lecture every week during the semester, very hard final and midterm, there is homework and final project.
Professor Kumar was an understanding teacher when it came to communicating with him but the structure of the class and policy's were not good. He wasn't that great at explaining the material during our one class a week, and also decided to give a paper quiz without warning after posting that we'll have an online one. Class is ok.
