She does tend to talk fast, and the lectures move rapidly. I want to make a disclaimer that math has never been my strong subject (I need it for a Psych minor). She does stop at times so that people can ask questions. We don't really use the textbook except for examples, and homework is submitted online.

very helpful to go to class, sections are mandatory. does grade on a curve. and the tests are pretty straight forward.
She is the section leader for ACE and she is THE BEST IN THE WORLD!
I doubt she meant to be, but she was hilarious sometimes in the way she spoke like a traditional Indian woman. Textbook use was very limited. Homework was easy enough if you paid attention in class. The TA I got was a huge help (Jonathon Bleaker). Practice tests were posted online which made it easy to study.
Really easy class, TAs really helpful, very little book use.
She is such a sweet lady and sometimes hilarious. She is very approachable. If you go to her office hours she will explain everything so clearly and work on homework with you. She provides sample midterms which are Xtremely helpful! She does go a bit fast but if you need her to stop she will. go to class, do your homework and you'll pass!!!
Choice of words when she lectured were funny. Section was mandatory, but the material itself is easy to understand. Midterms and finals were almost as similar to the practice ones. She uses up every second... Even on the last day of class right before finals to teach new material. Otherwise, she's not too bad.
Nandini is a wonderful teacher. Her lectures go pretty smoothly, but she does get a little confusing at times. Very helpful during office hours. Section is mandatory, and she puts a lot of faith in her T.A.'s. All HW is online, and submitted weekly. Overall it was a good class.
A very straight forward professor. Just go to class, do all your homework (and by this, i mean actually doing your hw and not cheat!) you will do fine in the class. She does grade on a curve which helps a lot but i didn't really need it. Her accent is a bit hard to udnerstand at times, but otherwise, she's very funny! def recommend her!
Great teacher. Really fast paced lectures, with a lot of topics in one day. Study her practice midterms... the midterms are exactly that. Having a good TA really helps, since the class is so packed with info. She seems to really love her job, she's really energetic and jokes around with a 300+ class. Great teacher!
The online hw system sucked (maybe just this year) but Nandini herself is a good teacher. She knows what she is doing, and although her lectures are fast paced (About 2 sections per day; ex 4.1 & 4.2) she is always there to help. Sections were boring and mandatory but sometimes helpful. I would suggest this class tho, it worked.
I HATED THIS CLASS. She rushed through lectures and often skips steps without mentioning it. Half of the class failed 2/3rds of their midterms and she wasn't noticing the problem! Worst math teacher I have EVER had.
perhaps most of you are inherently good at math, because that is the only way one could say Nandini was a good professor. She assumes all students are fresh out of High School AP calculus, and to her credit, many students were. As for myself, being a 22-year-old transfer student who barely passed algebra, I found the class impossible to pass.
She was fast paced and often hard to understand. If you missed one lecture you pretty much doomed yourself because she goes so fast it is hard to catch up. If you are a dedicated student who likes a challenge go for it! Otherwise, stay away from this class....far away!
The first problem I had with Nandini is like most have said the fast pace. But what really sucked about the class were her explanations. She explains things in such a way that doesn't really "dumb it down" for those who aren't good at math (me) so I found my TA's teaching methods more helpful than hers.
I actually don't think she's that bad of a professor. Her lectures are simplistic and don't reflect the hard problems that she throws at you at the midterm. Her attitude is good however. I really dislike how she makes you pay some company to do your homework but this is a problem with a lot of professors here. God I hate these corporate criminals
Section leader for Math 23-B. The most helpful person in the whole university I have met so far. Very demanding but makes the material easy and fun. She will push you to work hard but in the end its all worth it.
If you go into this class thinking a college pre-cal class will be easy, your wrong. The class is definitely pass-able if you attend lecture and attend the MSI tutorial. Nandini even tells you what is on the tests. College math requires effort, so do not think you are smart enough to not attend lecture... you will probably fail the class
I really like this professor, she is a great teacher. but you, of course, have to be willing to do the work and review outside of lecture to get a good grade.
SO NICE!! She writes everything on the overhead. You HAVE to come to class and take notes because she wont post them online until weeks later. Her tests are usually only 7-10 questions with a),b) parts. They are pretty hard because the TAs wont always give you partially credit when they grade. Hard Class w/ Lots of work but a prereq for most.
Nandini is a great teacher who wants the students to learn the material. However, if you go into this class having already taken high school Pre-Cal so you think this will be easy, DONT! This class requires A LOT of work and effort. Yeah, it sucks, but it can be done with effort. TA's and Nandini and MSI are helpful so GO!
Nandini is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. The material is very difficult at times but she makes it as fun as math can possibly be. If you don't find her jokes funny just listen to her accent. She goes very fast when explaining, just dont get distracted. Also, Robert Jennings is a baller TA and Aleks is the devil!
This class was very hard. I am a straight A student, and i am good at math, yet i will end up getting a C+ or a low B in this class. Nandini was very unhelpful when it came to questions about the class, and my T.A. was virtually useless. I understood the concepts clearly, yet i never managed to get above a B on the midterms. AVOID!!
A horrible teacher in my opinion. You can barely understand a word that she says and she goes really fast so you can't full grasp the material. I will have to end up taking the class again thanks to her. The TA's were actually helpful compared to her. Try and get another math teacher if possible.
Nandini is a wonderful teacher. The material is challenging, but if you go to class, take notes and do practice problems the exams will not be bad at all. She is very helpful and she just wants you to succeed.
She did not seem interested in student success. When students were confused by the her lecture style she always took their confusion to be a failing on the part of the student. My success in this class (Grade of A) was completely thanks to my wonderful TA. Nandini was not helpful.
Nandini was a pretty good professor. The class is very difficult and it requires a lot of studying. Make sure you do the homework, and study the practice midterms, They are exactly the same as the test. Overall, good teacher.
she is good at what she does. she knows were she is talking about. as soon as her class starts she doesn't stop teaching until it ends. if u really want to learn real math. she is the one. her midterms and final are similar to the examples. practice it n u will do good in her class. also use her office hrs, they are helpful
Nandini is an outstanding professor. She really cares about teaching the material and making sure that students understand it. She is always available to help. As long as you go to class, do the homework, and ask questions you should have no problem getting an A or B. I would not recommend missing missing class
Nandini is a really great professor. Her class is very hard and does not have a high pass rate. If you can get through her class you'll most likely be able to succeed in higher division math because she really weeds people out. She's very caring and is always there to help. Go to her office hrs & all of the reviews because they really help!
Nandini is good. Like others have said, very fast lectures that can get confusing if you ask her for more examples. No matter how much I studied, the best I ever got on a midterm was a B-. She likes to throw in questions you haven't seen. Study the reviews and practice tests like there's no tomorrow and you'll do alright.
I attended every class went to every section and review section got 100 on all the homework and failed the midterms/finals horribly. She conducts lectures at mock speed and doesn't seem to care if you pass or not. I talked to her multiple times and she wasnt any help. Oh and did i mention my ta was an exchange student who didn't speak English?
Love her. I will always go back to her. Great teacher.
Finished the final 2 days ago, and she still has homework assigned and due the night of the final and the friday after finals, everything is online with this new Aleks program, its terrible, makes you truly hate math. decent teacher, terrible teaching choices. honestly horrible teaching choices.
Nandini is LAME, and her teaching method is HORRIBLE. She talks fast and her lectures are hard to follow up with. The solutions to the practice midterms and finals contain major errors! Homework is the ALEKS program that makes you pay extra $45 and still have homework due on the day of the final and the days after. Her class makes you HATE math.
Good professor. She really seems to care if students understand the material. It's true that she does speed through things, but the way she lectures really helps. Homework is really hard!
As far as math teachers go, Nandini is one of the best that I have had. While she does lecture at a fast pace, her method is clear and logical and she explains each step. The only problem I had with this class was the online hw website "Aleks". Nandini is a good professor.
Great teacher! Knows how to teach all the way around. Her tests are relatively easy, so study and you'll do great. Very nice and understandable
She's awesome, funny, and teaches her students well. Attend lecture because one lecture covers a lot of material. She's wonderful and class is enjoyable!
She was a little strict but I learned a lot from her. Definitely not a fun class but if you go to lecture you'll do fine. Also the textbook is useless. I never opened it because the homework was online (time consuming!!) Downside is the two midterms and final are 80% of your grade. She makes sure you learn but it's not a walk in the park.
She was kinda strict and would kick people out if they talked but then again then again the material was difficult and she wanted to make sure everyone understood. i definitely learned a lot in her class and if your willing to go to all the lectures youll do well.
Don't waste your money buying the book, but be sure to buy the reader. Her notes are very helpful, the tests are fair and sometimes similar to the practice tests, and the quizzes are pretty easy. The only bad thing is ALEKS because of how hair-pulling-frustrating it is, but it does help you learn. Easy B/C, have to put in more effort for an A.
Pretty great professor. It's really a pretty easy class if you work through/study the practice midterms/final because they are very similar to the actual tests. I actually did end up using the textbook quite a lot for study purposes, unlike some of the reviewers below.
I don't recommend her
she cares very much about her student to make sure they understand the material well and she is very friendly. Go to lecture, she teaches well, but does hover to 'make sure u got it' a lot. Stupid ppl asking questions slows down class time alot.
Nandini is a great professor! She wants all her students to succeed and is willing to help all those that approach her. She's kind, helpful, and encouraging. Definitely recommend her. BUT, of course, just like any other class, you must put those hours of studying to get that A or B. She's an amazing professor!
Really difficult class, but I can't really complain because I failed the first midterm, got a D on the second midterm, and failed the final. I should've failed , but Nandini gave me a C and I escaped with my GPA somewhat intact. If you're going to take this class, prepare to work hard. Also, watch out for ALEKS. It really, really, REALLY sucks.
I did not like this class. I absolutely hate math and I probably wouldn't have been her best friend BUUUT she is very fair. Take that to heart if you are taking her class. Make and effort and you will pass. She is a kind and level-headed person. Just bite the bullet and pass the tests
Nandini is a great professor. If you attend class regularly and add those extra hours, you're set. Don't think studying an hour will suffice-you're mistaken. Everybody that passes, passes through the miserious hours of studying. Don't think for a day that it will be a piece of cake without attempting to study. She's brilliant!
Really hard class if you're not a natural at math but Nandini is very clear and her notes are helpful and she's a very fair grader. Go to section, take the quizzes, and STUDY STUDY STUDY. I hate math but I got a B in the class
Took her my frosh year fall quarter and got A- on both midterms and the final i believed i got a B. ended up passing the class with a A-. i highly recommend doing the homework cause it's really helpful, buying the reader and jotting down the steps while she's doing it on the projector. if you are a STEM major, i would recommend you join ACE.
i highly recommend her!
Took Precal two years ago with Nandini. Loved her class! She was a great Professor. Has a pretty thick accent but that does not get in the way of her wonderful teaching! Homework is highly recommended. Midterm/Final reviews are really helpful too! Very easy class as long as you put the time and effort into it!
She's a GREAT teacher! Her notes are helpful and if you attend lecture & section regularly, it IS possible to obtain an A or B. She even has practice exams from her previous years to help her students study for midterms/finals. VERY HELPFUL TEACHER! Sections are mandatory!
AMAZING teacher!!! Math is definitely her passion, it's cute how excited she gets about it. She is so easy to follow and understand. She holds helpful reviews before tests.Nandini is very fair and very helpful and clear. ALEKS (hw) was great, it seemed irritating at the time but when test time rolled around, I was thankful for all that practice!
Nandini rules! Her teacher style is so clear and concise. She really cares how students do in her class and makes sure that they're getting the grade they deserve. She's pretty fast paced, but always wants to be sure you understand the material.
She is a wonderful professor! She explains the class concepts very well and it is obvious that she is passionate about math. The homework is done through Aleks.com. I would definitey recommend taking her class! Also, attending lecture is essential! She really gave me a better understanding of Algebra!
Sassy and caring, but so, so hard! The homework is an online program that is super annoying. The first midterm was easy and then the second one was impossible. Nandini is cool but this class is no walk in the park.
Nandini is super helpful outside of class and makes math very straightforward. She is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Great professor, it doesn't matter if you despise math, she makes it easy to understand no matter what your experience with the subject is prior to this class.
Very clear teaching style. For best clarity, print out the outrageous number of notes she provides. Textbook is a waste of time and the homework program she uses is annoying! But if you attend lecture and the mandatory sections you should pass no problem.
Nandini was very helpful during office hours as well as a great lecturer. I had no problems with her accent at all. Print out all notes and follow along. Midterms were easy, the final was long and had many curve balls so beware!! but I still managed to pass the class with an A. overall great teacher :) I highly recommend her.
This course unravels at a very reasonable pace. Nandini Bhattacharya's lectures are very clear/helpful and provide a wide variety of examples. My experience in this class has been very positive in regards to the great quality of teaching I receive and the amount of calculus I have learned.
Nandini is a great teacher, I've had her for two quarters and she has proven her helpfulness and knowledge clearly in each class and office hours. In order to succeed in class, go to lecture, office hours(!!) and MSI! Enjoyed 11A wish she could be teaching 11B and Math 22!
Nandini's great. She's a good lecturer, and she genuinely cares about the success of her students, which I really admire. She's also pretty funny. Lectures were entertaining, but also very fast paced, so be prepared. But don't worry too much - if you want to succeed half as much as she wants you to, you'll be okay.
Shes's a rally nice professor..just be ready for her extremely hard exams.STUDY>>STUDY>> STUDY... thats what you all need to do to pass her class:(
Hard teacher when you do not know calculus at all. She goes at a very fast pace. SUPER HARD EXAMS. HAVE TO STUDY AT LEAST A WEEK IN ADVANCE. should not have made her first calculus class this hard. from a students that has had her from math 2 to math 3 she is way harder in math 11a for some reason.
She has been my only math professor so far at UCSC, but I love her teaching style because she uses a lot of examples to clarify the math rules. For Math 3, her online practice tests are almost identical to the real thing. For Math 11A, she throws in some questions that I don't even remember her going over. All in all, she is still a good professor.
She often breaks the material a little to much making it difficult to follow because it is so slow even though the concepts are not hard. However, she really wants to help her students and she is quite funny. Just a warning she has a bit of an accent but not to hard to understand.
Great professor, very dedicated to her students success. Her teaching style is very much example based which was very helpful to me.Don't be afraid to ask questions she gives very clear explanations.
Nandini is a great professor. She has a deep appreciation and concern for her students wellbeing. Her exams are extremely fair as long as you study. Overall the class teaches you the essential concepts of Precalculus.
One of the most caring instructors I've had so far. It's only a hard class if you don't go to/pay attention in lectures and sections. I'm looking forward to having her as my calc prof next quarter!
She cares about her students, but still assigns a lot of homework and goes through material quickly when the class gets behind the syllabus. The class was harder than I thought it would be.
I think Nandini is the most overrated professor I have had. I do not think she is very caring of helpful in any way. She is hard to understand, and I completely disagree with those who say the class is easy if you pay attention. Her actual tests are also much harder than the practice ones she gives us, which is difficult in terms of studying
I love Nandini. I've had her for my whole freshman year (Math 2, Math 3, 11A) and I wish she would teach 11B. She is so patient, engaging and speaks the best english out of all the foreign teachers I've had!!! She's hard but it's only to make you succeed and if you guys actually GO TO CLASS and take notes without being lazy you'll do fine. <3
I don't think the comment on 5/9/12 about her poor quality is accurate at all. Did they even go to her office hours and talk to her? She is really nice. Her class seems like average difficulty. I took her for math 3. Her accent isn't even bad, she's nice to listen to, and she has a pleasant personality during her lectures. Thank you Nandini!!!
Nandini is the best teacher I have had for math so far. Math has been a challenging topic for me but right now I am doing extremely well as Nandini clearly explains the material. Going to her office hours she was VERY approachable and sweet. She TRULY cares about her students and the tests are fair WHEN YOU STUDY and ATTEND class.
Take someone else if you can. She is too difficult to follow and no matter how many times you attend class and take notes, her exams are far harder than her study materials.
Nandini is an awesome professor!! I don't understand why there are any bad comments about her at all! obviously those don't study and don't go to her office hours. She is super sweet and very willing to help. She truly cares about her students' success. I recently took a midterm with her and her test was fair! Love Nandini<3
Provides all the resources a student needs to do well in the course and is very clear with explaining concepts. While she gives a pretty large amount of homework, it's easier than her tests and only worth 10%. The accent is there but it doesn't interfere with her explanations and she genuinely seems concerned with her students' success.
Nandini is one of the friendliest professors you will encounter. She knows what she's doing and she's great at teaching. Some may find her lecturing to be clear, while others may think it's confusing/pointless. Personally, her lectures are a bit confusing for ME, so I didn't like the class as much. However, I wish I could've done a lot better.
She is very unclear. Take someone else if you can. I definately dont get a lot from her lectures. I get a lot more from Aleks(online program) than from her lectures.
YOU DON'T NEED A TEXTBOOK. She works off of an overhead and teaches step by step. She posts up her prior tests, making the actual test seem easy. She's pretty great!
She is a great teacher. Attend class and pay attention and you'll get a good grade for sure. It's possible that you won't even need to crack open the text book. She is a great teacher.
She is very nice, but is sometimes difficult to understand. Her homework is usually pretty easy, but the tests are not. I think this class is good for someone who does not struggle with math, but if you do, it can be challenging.
You don't need the textbook! Nandini is a really nice person, but I didn't learn much from her. Her tests are pretty straightforward, but I learned almost all of the material in my section. The homework is much harder than the problems on exams.
She teaches the subject well and has very good explanations. She posts all her notes online, which allows students to get lazy. Her accent is not too bad, homework is easy, sections are helpful, tests are medium hard.
It might take a bit to get used to Nandini's fast teaching style, but she is an excellent instructor who engages the whole class. There's a lot of material covered and I studied a LOT to get the grade I got (A). Attend every class and make sure you have a good TA for section. Master the online study guides and you'll have no problem on the tests.
her class is not easy but she does everything in her power to help you pass. she loves participation and might put you on blast if your not paying attention or talking which can be funny
Honestly barely attended class but still managed to pass because I already took a Trig class in high school. She was very kind and helpful about students grades.
This was my second time repeating this class. The first time was when I failed it with Eastman. Nandini is an AMAZING professor that's able to explain all the concepts-simply and thoroughy. I was able to learn alot from her and would recommend anyone to take her class if given the chance. She made my calculus experience very enjoyable.
Nandini is a great professor and is always willing to help outside of class, but keep in mind she is also human, so don't bother her with test corrections during office hours when there is a huge line of students asking about it. She is VERY fast paced, and the first weeks may take a while to get used to
Nandini might be one of the best math professors along with Migliore at UCSC. She goes at a fast pace but makes sure you understand it! Her midterms and finals are exactly like the real midterms and finals. Study your notes religiously and you'll do well ! She grades on a curve and is overall helpful!
Nandini is truly an amazing teacher. Although she moves at a fast pace, she cares deeply for her students and their success. You are expected to do your part and study/practice problems outside of class and section. A hard class but with dedication you will pass with a good grade!
Nandini is a great, passionate professor. She's very caring about her students, enough for her to drive to campus during the strike and be turned back. She came back on her bike later to teach her 8 am class. Can we say awesome?
Overall the class was fine. I observed that the midterms were unfairly graded for certain questions, probably because different TAs graded different questions. But Nandinis curve afterward wa good and boosted my grade a whole letter.
The homework was useless and took about 12+ hours a week alone. You spend more time working on random problems in the homework than actually studying for problems that will be on the exams. Notes went too fast, sometimes you find yourself not understanding her accent. Exams are 80% of the class grade. Not very good at explaining things. Don't take.
Nandini seems like a really good teacher if she had a smaller class, but A lecture hall of 300 seems out of her element. After 15 minutes I didn't pay attention, and I usually didn't attend because it was a waste of my time. Sections were helpful because they did go over what she taught in lecture.
This class moves VERY fast, so beware. Nandini is very helpful, and does relate the problems to the real world as opposed to just having them be math problems. Aleks (the homework) is completely worthless, and she admits that. Her midterms and finals from previous years are available on her website well in advance. The class is a lot of work.
Nandini is very good at explaining her materials and covering her topics but her exams are crazy. She is notorious for tricking you on the exams so studying on homework alone would be a bad idea. Make sure you understand all your topics and ask for help during sections. The TAs are pretty good at explaining and are definitely there to help!
Her class is fairly easy, though I find that some of the lectures do not go over what we have t do for homework. She is nice and pretty flexible with homework, especially when it is a site error. Second midterm was way easier than the first. Posts all lecture notes online. Pretty easy class if you are ok at math.
Nandini goes really fast on her lectures, especially towards the last half of the quarter and it's really easy to fall behind. She explains too much and confuses you because she gives too many examples and looks at the small details. She doesn't get to the point. Tests are really tricky and confusing.
over complicated math, makes lots of mistake throughout lectures, and is just unclear overall.
Nandini is a great professor relative to UCSC math department. This is my second time taking Math3 with her, and as cliche as this sounds, you get out of the class what you put in. Your grade will reflect the amount of work you do for the class. Her practice problems, midterms, and final provide plenty of examples and show what to expect on exams.
Nandini is a pretty awesome professor. She makes lectures worth going to because of her sassy-ness and clarity. If you go to her lectures and utilize the TA's you should be more than prepared to do well. Her exams can be a bit tricky but she provides many resources to do practice with.
I had Nandini for a whole year and she really invests in your progress. Math 2 & 11A were less confusing and stressful compared to the overwhelming number of topics in Math 3. She gives two midterms--1 will be fairly simple and the other hard. Final exam is difficult but as long as you consistently go to her office hours, you will pass the class.
Amazing math professor! She actually taught me math. At first it appears to be fast paced but you'll get the hang of it! Focus on the word problems presented in lecture for the tests!
Nandini is a very awesome teacher. She has an accent that, in my opinion, was not that bad, however, I did have a hard time understanding her. Her midterms are pretty easy if you study, but the final is ridiculously hard. Some of the practice material she had given us were only easy versions of what she put on the final. Overall good teacher.
I am not a very good math student, but I did work very hard in this class. She is a bit hard to understand and her final was ridiculously hard. The midterms are manageable. Her practice finals were nothing like the actual final, she also assigns a lot of homework.
As long as you study and get help in office hours or MSI, you should do fine in this class. Nandini is a fine teacher and really cares how her students are doing. She has really hilarious moments at times. Exams are a bit challenging but doable.
Nandini is a great teacher! She explained most of the material very well and goes at a fast pace. She makes a few things harder than they should be and additional help could help make the class a lot easier. Her midterms were fair and easy, because og the practice midterms that are available. The final was difficult but the practices really helped.
I am absolutely terrible at math and struggled with it throughout high school. Nandini started right from the beginning and explained everything so it was easy to understand. She is a sassy, humorous, and easy-to-like professor. Much respect for her. A great professor if you actually want to learn.
Umm, lets see. I didn't have any calculus pre-calculus experience prior. I felt already at a disadvantage, and then i realized how fast she teaches. I hope you all can write fast. She's funny though, ill give her that, but makes sure you not only understand the notes but also most of the examples in the book. Exams are NOT straight-forward.
Nandini is always there to help and encourage her students and is always enthusiastic about the material. She has a wonderful sense of humor, is an engaging lecturer, and is excellent at applying concepts to the real world. I would strongly recommend her for any classes she offers. I had her for math 3 and have her now for 11A-I feel lucky!
Gotta put in work. Test are what you would expect. Got D's in calculus in highschool. Got an A's in both 11A11b from nandini. She is helpful and welcoming in office hours, though a little sassy.
Nandini's tests tend to be either super easy or super hard. I still have scary flashbacks to her 11A final. Just keep up with the material, study on your own after each lecture. Don't rely too much on the sections since they usually aren't too helpful. If you set your mind to it, you can get an A! She also curves.
The professor is really good at explaining things and offers students multiple office hours for extra help. She truly wants students to succeed.
Her accent does not make the lectures totally unclear. I think she is an amazing professor and has quite the humor. She never really goes off tangent, so pay attention to everything she talks about in class. Her notes are posted weekly on her website and she has past midterms and finals that definitely help. The book was sometimes used.
Very sweet, kind FUNNY woman. If you go to her office hours and pay attention to what she's doing in class you WILL do well in her class. Must study, she gives hard tests, but she will always always help you and stay after in her office hours just to make sure you get all the help you can get.
Nandini loves to teach. I had her for Math 3 and Math 11A. Just go to class and do all the practice exams she puts online and you will do great.
Review, review, review.
For math 2 I did not even buy the book I just went to every lecture. She gives a lot of homework which I had trouble keeping up with on ALEKS, which was a pain in the butt, but web assignment is a lot more simple.
She's pretty fast when it comes to lecture so try to keep up when writing notes. Does lots of examples. Watch out for word problems on the exams. I think she curves pretty well. For exams, she really wants to test your knowledge of the topics. She will put challenging problems on the exams, unlike Berman for MATH 3 who will just give you basic Qs.
She is laid back and funny. Don't expect to be babied about what days to read which chapters. Lectures are long, but extremely helpful for the tests. There will be a research paper, ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT IT if you have any. She is understanding and as long as your study her power point slides, you will do well in her class.
Lectures progress at an easy-going pace. Homework assignments are short but are sort of sporadic in terms of deadlines, so be aware of when those are due. Section is required. Do as much of the practice exam questions as you can and you should be prepared enough for midterms and the final. :)
She's adorable and sassy but her class is really hard. She moves very quickly and her tests are really difficult, so missing class is a terrible idea no matter how boring it may be.
Hands down best math professor at UCSC. I had her for math 3 & 11A. As long as you attend lectures & do the practice midterms, you'll be just fine. Her finals are always harder than the midterms so do study the hardest for those! In math 11A, I had an A in her class until I took the final & was left with a C. Bummer for me, but completely my fault.
Nandini is the best, she cares so much about her students and practically hand feeds future tests to the class based on her study tests. She is awesome and can sometimes be sassy, but in a good way.
She is awesome. She loves what she does and wants you to succeed. GO TO LECTURE!!! She is very clear and does useful practice problems in class. Review all the materials she makes available and got to office hours. Her tests are challenging and test for your knowledge on the topic and concept. Overall, she is the best math teacher at UCSC.
Accent isn't a problem. Very nice person. Hilarious at times. You have to put the time in studying. Hardest class in MBA program so far, but also one of the most rewarding.
She's very passionate about math and loves to teach. Her midterms are hard but if you study the content really well, you're definitely going to pass. I got a D on my first midterm because the questions on the tests are really challenging testing your concept and topics knowledge. If you go to sessions and lectures, you're guaranteed to do well.
Nandini is very helpful. She gives participation points usually by an online quiz. Very funny and upbeat personality.
I took Math2 as a refresher course, so her fast pace wasn't too much of a deterrent. But, it's important to note, she writes fast so I hope you do to. She gives a lot of homework worksheet, and online. It helped me. Take advantage of the resources she offers, and go to section even if you think you don't need it. Study for the tests, they're tricky
Lots of homework. Online homework is really long and annoying but I guess it helps. Online homework is due almost every Sunday plus print out worksheets that are graded harshly. Teacher is clear and helpful. Tests are short, almost always less than 10 questions but each question has multiple parts to it.
Do not purchase the iclicker just sign up for reef polling that cost $10 for six months for the pop quizzes everyday Go to her office hours, she more comfortable reaching a smaller group. Go to review sessions too. And I highly recommend MSI
Nandini wants all of her students to succeed. Sometimes her lectures contain gaps or skip back and forth, making the content somewhat confusing. Going to discussion is really helpful if you're having a hard time with the material.
I love this teacher! She is very nice and funny, however she is rather hard to understand sometimes because of her accent. She really tries to prepare you for the tests, unfortunately that means a lot of homework, in class participation, and rather difficult worksheets at times. DONT BUY THE BOOK, she overly suggests it but you will not need it.
Nandini takes a LOT of notes. She has a system so you don't fall behind in note taking, but it's hella annoying
Nandini is a rare species of math teacher that seems to actually care about students. Due to the quarter system lectures tended to cover a lot of material, but when the class got too confused Nandini would stop and dedicate more time to the topic. Tests weren't that hard, but I seemed to do better than most students so maybe I'm just good at math.
Nandini is hands down the best math professor on campus. She isn't the easiest test giver, but honestly her teaching is amazing and worth it. I had her for two quarters and feel spoiled for it, wish I could have her again!
Although Nandini gives us much homework, including textbook questions and webassign homework, practicing more helps me be more mature about using mathematical properties and identities. She is generous about grading, 85 can be A. And she gives many practice questions before tests, which are so helpful. Real tests are easier than practice tests.
Nandini is the best!! Her class is definitely not a walk in the park, but she makes sure you really learn and understand the material. I had the chance to take her for two quarters, and I don't regret it at all. She gives weekly WS, online homework and clicker questions. There's 2 midterms and a final. Test are hard, do the practice problems!!
Nandini's a great lecturer. She gives many examples and lists all the rules in her notes. Expect to take hella notes! 2 midterms and a final, somewhat similar to the practice tests. Her grading criteria is very generous (an A starts at an 85%) but Nandini and her TAs grade the tests quite harshly. I'm not amazing at math, but her class is tough.
Nandini, interestingly, taught the course for incoming LSS tutors, which is different from her usual repertoire of math classes. Nandini is very kind and friendly, but strict in her teaching style. She explains things clearly, and empowers students to be better tutors. I really enjoyed listening to her lectures.
Nandini is a great professor and lecturer. She makes her notes clear and concise. Make sure you follow along in her lectures and do the practice midterms/Final reviews. Easy class to pass
Nandini knows what she's doing and provides a lot of resources to go over for tests. However her lectures can get off track and she messes up pretty often throughout lecture. Overall though if you apply yourself you'll be able to pass. She does reef polling during lectures to check for attendance.
Nandini is a great professor, I highly recommend! I took her for math 11a, her lectures are clear but she does go through the notes kinda fast. She has a very kind personality and truly wants her students to succeed. There are 2 midterms and a final, also the grading for tests is nitpicky
Nandini is a hilarious professor! She can be a little hard to follow and sometimes goes too fast but other than that she's really accessible and sweet.
Math 2 is pretty easy if you show up and do the homework. Nandini is very clear and helpful during lecture and is clear about what you will be tested on.
Math3 can be a fairly tricky subject. Nandini does a fantastic job of explaining it and giving problems that show what you need to learn. The homework is alright, the tests were good, and the lectures were fantastic.
This professor taught the course really clearly and gave lots of material for students to reference. She graded very fairly and gave students lots of chances to increase their test scores and raise their grades. Also gave a lot of opportunity for help in and out of lectures. If the subject was tough the professor definitely made it easier.
Nandini really cares about her students and she wants them to do well. She makes sure to offer a lot of opportunities for people to get the help they need to understand the subject. This includes office hours, extra credit, and MSI. Effort means a lot in this class but its rewarding.
She's a great professor but not everyone's cup of tea. I couldn't really understand anything she was saying during class so I rarely went. However, she does have mandatory section that could make or break you so make sure you have a really good TA if you don't like her style of teaching.
Discussions are mandatory, and she does random attendance quiz checks on REEF all the time to make sure people are coming to class. Lots of online homework, and she doesn't remind you about it so you have to be on top of it. Her curve is pretty huge, an 85% is an A, and her tests are pretty fair.
Nandini makes you work for your grade, but is an incredibly kind professor who genuinely cares about how her students are doing. There was a lot of homework for the class, as well as mandatory discussions and quizzes via reef polling to make sure people went to class. Her exams aren't easy, but are incredibly fair and the grading scale is generous.
So much online homework for this class. Lectures are long and confusing. Tests are difficult.
Nandini really really wants you to pass. I'm terrible at math and received a D after the final (I had kept a high C for the quarter. However, Nandini reported my grade as a C without me asking to. She really looks at your performance in class and if she sees that you've worked hard, she will be cool. She understands that math isn't everyone's thing
She has this mentality that if she covers it once its fair game for a test so there were topics that I felt I knew really well but she'd try to trick us and I found that to be unfair.
Nandini is a really good professor who has a GREAT grading scale. She gives really good feedback and is pretty funny during lecture. I would definitely take her class again as she is very great at explaining things.
Nandini is a great professor who cares about the success of her students. She will answer questions thoroughly and provide examples to help the students understand what she is teaching better. She is also funny during lecture but she often goes through the material too fast.
I was never good at math before, but her lectures really helped me learn and understand. Tests are straight forward. The online homework is annoying but helps you to learn the materials, and if you stay on top of it, it's not bad - an hour to 1.5 hours a week. Sections are mandatory but help. Large curve (85% is an A).
She is an amazing professor who cares about her students a lot. I am not super great at math and I went to her office hours and used her online materials to help me pass her class. She gives you a lot of opportunities to get your grade up.
She gives extra credit credit and basically says a B in the class is an A. The thing is, it's easy to get a good grade in this class because of that, but it is not an easy class. Her lectures are decent- you have to get used to it. Section saves lives. All in all she really cares and wants u to do well. Frequent tests. You will learn well.
Love Nandini! Shes honestly the best math teacher I have ever had! She always gives students a chance to study more and to have a very good understanding of the material. She gave me the confidence to do good in math!
I love Nandini. She is kind and caring. She is an amazing professor and stands out from other professors. I had a tough time transitioning and she helped me and every time I see her we talk and being in a lecture of 400, that means a lot. She not only remembers your name but she knows who you are.
Nandini is a super sweet lady that is understanding of her students. She has a lot of resources available for her students to take advantage of. She does move a little fast during her lectures (she does post some of them on canvas). She has pre-lecture videos to watch before class that were helpful! Nandini is clear on what will be on her tests.
Definitely, take her class, it's a small class of 20 - 30 students so you get a lot of one on one. She's a great professor one of the best I have ever had specifically in the math department. Test heavy class with four tests throughout the quarter, and a ton of homework due every other day which makes you learn what she is teaching.
Nandini has to be the best math teacher I have ever had. She provides many resources for extra math help and has the clearest lectures I've ever experienced in a math class. She made me like math a bit more by being so open to any question. She really cares about the success of her students, which is a plus!
Nandini is amazing and caring, she make math easy and simple for you to learn, she takes the memorization away and make you understand where everything comes from. She has pre-lecture videos ready for you to watch and rewatch to learn the material before walking in class. Her office hours are extremely helpful. Wish she teaches upper div maths
Because of the quarter system this class is fast-paced. But don't be scared!! Nandini prepares you well with worksheets that are harder than her actual tests. She has videos that should be watched before her lectures that are extremely helpful in learning about the material beforehand. I have never seen a teacher care more about her students.
Nandini was so kind and so smart I absolutely loved walking into her class everyday. She made me really love math again and really prepared me for taking 11A/B. Yes, there is alot of concepts and it is difficult, but she definitely cares about you and WANTS you to learn and get a good grade. I love Nandini so much I wish I had her for 11A/B too!
Nandini is amazing! She really does care about her students and in her office hours, she pays attention to make sure you understand the subject. There are many videos to watch but they are very helpful. She gives out worksheets that are due every week on Friday and there are review sessions to help you with the tests. I hope she would teach 11A/B.
I am absolutely thankful that I had the chance of having Nandini as a professor! She is so passionate about what she does and cares about each and every student. She wants you to succeed and wants to help you in any way possible. Her office hours are so helpful and her class overall was fairly enjoyable. The homework load wasn't bad either.
Nandini is a good teacher. Shes definitely not the best, but definitely not the worst. She genuinely cares that we pass the class and wants us to learn, but sometimes she moves a little too fast. Theres a lot of homework, but its for a good reason and its usually useful practice.
Nandini is truly the most caring teacher I've had. She took the time to get to know each and every student and attempt to tailor to each of our needs. I took both her Math2 and Math3 courses and she not only pushed me to do my best, but she also made sure she was only pushing us to our own limits. Nandini does give a lot of work, but its worth it.
Nandini is easily the best math professor on this campus. I had her for the college math academy; she really, really cares about her students and wants them to pass. She also gives ample opportunity for extra credit and is super available outside of class. She did give lots of tests though (4) and we were only allowed 2 absences the whole quarter.
I'm a freshman, and her class shocked me a bit, because of its fast pace. Some students also complain of the same thing, but once we tell her, she usually slows down. The pre-lecture videos she gives really help a lot, and if you miss a lecture, she always posts recordings after. Make sure to go to your TA's office hours, it helps a lot.
Ive had Nandini for 2 quarters, online. Lectures aren't strictly mandatory but she gives pop quizzes sometimes to see who actually goes to class and her lectures help a lot. Going to office hours really improved my grade but all the worksheets and tests really brought my grade down because they were so difficult. She had prerecorded lectures too.
She's the sweetest. Lot's of homework but it all really helps. Love her!
Nandini is really sweet and cares a lot about students. She made sure the course materials were affordable and listened to our feedback. She wants to help us succeed. Her lectures are very fast-paced but she posts recordings so you can rewatch them at your own pace. Make sure to use correct notation in your test answers because she's a hard grader.
Nandini is an amazing professor that I would be very happy to take a class with again. She is super helpful and gives very clear lectures that are easy to understand. This class definitely requires a lot of work and effort but was very beneficial. The class went at a decent pace and did not feel rushed.
Nandini was unclear about "extra-credit" being mandatory, not doing extra credit brings grade down by 6%. Nandini was condescending when answering questions at times, didnt want to go over homework, and thinks that if she covered it once it is fair game in tests. If you dont have previous knowledge of calculus, it would be best to avoid Nandini.
Dont bother buying the textbook: we dont even touch it. Watch all the prelecture videos and take good notes so you can be prepared for the tests. She was a bit of a stickler, but usually pretty understanding of situations if you reach out to her via email. She moves fast sometimes but shes a thorough teacher.
It was an okay class other than lectures that were hard to follow and exams that had you staring at one problem for 5 minutes.
Nandini is good for her personality. She's good to the students, but doesn't give the same attention to detail to her tests. Tests are nothing like the homework, and even though all are open note, her tests were full of grammatical errors, typos, and assumptions not made in lectures. Tests don't accurately reflect the course material worked on.
With how much tests affect our grades, you would think they'd have fewer typos. Additionally, the work given to us during lectures is not well reflected in tests and worksheets. Oftentimes there are scenario-based questions that have nothing to do with what she teaches during lectures, and yet she doesn't offer much help or explanation.
If you can get this teacher, take her!! easiest A+ ever. She posts lecture videos and has weekly quizzes that have 2 attempts. The midterm and final also have 2 attempts. Also, she gives extra credit so I finished with 110.
video quizzes suck. they do not teach you anything, what i liked the most however was the lectures but overall a really hard class. lots of things were not graded to see what you needed to work on which is understandable. maybe it will be better in person.
Do not take this class. I was heavily based on the video quizzes, which you had to do 3 times a week. On top of so much other work we had to. She was very unclear on feedback, she provided little to none. Save yourself and Do not take this class.
Nandini was honestly one of the worst math teachers I've ever experienced, her test are not at the same level in which material is taught in lectures. If you take this class prepare to spend at minimum 10 hours on work for her class.
honestly really hard, her lectures are helpful but only to some degree. the test are super difficult unless you know the material really really well. thank god for my ta since they're the only reason that i actually understand what's happening in class. the pre lecture questions are also due at weird times and the canvas is a mess.
She makes mistakes in every lecture and on solution guides, and gets offended when you ask questions on it. She tries to fit too much into lectures and puts subjects on the tests and finals that haven't been covered in class. The entire class will fail a test and she'll blame the students. Please don't take her class if you can
I definitely would not recommend taking Nandini for Math11A. Only if you're okay with learning the content independently. Her lectures were really fast and explanations were not clear. She wasn't very accommodating and didn't really seem to care much abt her students. I'm sure shes a great person but not a good professor.
Not in the least bit accommodating. She insists that students have to abide by her grading policies, no matter how many people fail her tests/projects (which have little to no feedback/reasoning, btw). Lectures and homework are not necessarily aligned with tests. If you have struggled with math previously, just know you're not gonna pass.
i have taken her for the past two quarters, i would never take her again. i thought that the feedback we gave in math 2 would better her structure but it didnt. she made a ton of mistakes and was hard on students when an average grade on tests would be low, video quizzes were not helpful and not helpful. i did appreciate going to msi and ace more!
I had Nandini for Math 2 and Math 3 she was not a good professor. Class content was difficult to understand. The only way I partly understood was going to office hours and MSI tutoring. If you are bad at math like me DO NOT take any of her classes. She also goes super fast and the tests were really challenging.
Completely reasonable, respectful, and organized. Very upfront about what she plans on doing each lesson, never falls behind on schedule. Despite this, people often complain about how fast her lectures are but given how much she has to teach in a quarter, it's to be expected. Go to office hours and tutoring if needed, and she gives out a ton of e.c
Nandini is very organized, and TA's are super helpful, but this class is quite difficult. Many students are often confused during lecture, and the average for the first midterm was so low that she let us do test corrections for the first time. If you ask questions during office hours though, she's more than happy to help.
RUN I would rather eat my own foot then take this class again. Tests are 40% and they are completely different than whats covered in class. 10-20 page worksheets are due every Sunday. Deep down the professor is a sweet soul but she definitely needs to fix her teaching
Shes a very good professor. There is a lot of work for her class such as pre lecture videos, weekly quizzes, and the worksheets. However, it preps you really well for the tests if youre studying. The only issue I have with her is that she goes too fast during lecture, but again we only have an hour. Id take her as an instructor again if I could.
Oh my god she is so sweet. If you are an all right student you will make it in her class. She can be a little confusing in lecture, but the online videos make up for it. TAKE NOTES DURING THE VIDEOS. It will save your life. Couldent ask for a better college math teacher :) I wish I had her next quarter.
Great professor but the way she uses canvas can get very confusing very fast. At the end of the quarter she drops your lowest scores though so that a plus. Overall nice lady and great teacher
Classes were very disorganized and something always went wrong almost every time. And the videos she assigned... I don't know if it's the same for all math classes at the uni but they were the death of me. If you missed a question it wouldn't tell you which one and then you'd have to rewatch the entire video again. So annoying and tanked my grade
Nandini is a great person, she obviously cares for her students and is very helpful throughout the UC-wide labor strike. She honestly wanted her students to do well, but she often didn't make much sense in her lectures and it involved a lot of self-study. If you are on top of your work and show up for her office hours, an A is easily achievable.
There's a reason why a lot of people failed her first midterm. It was our first quarter, she moves at a fast pace(first quarter of college). Worksheets are time consuming, but they do a decent job preparing for midterms. If you want to pass any test, you're going to have to self review, she doesn't cover everything that will be on tests.
Her teaching method is old fashioned, her assignments take longer than its supposed to be, her videos have questions, but one mistake on the question, then you have to rewatch the whole video again(no skipping), vids average 10 mins, so its possible spending 1 hour on a video. we went from 3 vids to 9 vids a week. worksheets are due every week.
already disorganized, first week of her class too
It's calc so there is going to be a lot of work, however she depends on prelecture reading for you to learn. Her class has 2 midterms, & the 1st one had a 28 point problem on something we just learned. The homework does not accurately represent her tests or what we're learning, & even the TAs agree. Sign up for ACE, it is the only way I've learned.
A tough grader has a thick accent and frustrating videos. Her lectures make concepts more complicated than it's supposed to be. I tend to have a group of friends that would watch a video from khan academy or an organic chemistry tutor instead of attending her pointless lectures. Also her midterm tested on concepts we learned in the previous week.
great person, horrible teacher. There would be 4 rows of students that had no idea what was going on due to her magical ability to make easy concepts very confusing. She moves at a fast pace in her lectures instead of reading the room and trying to figure out if students are confused. Even the TA's don't like her way of teaching!!
She does a horrible job preparing her students for higher levels of math
If you like teaching yourself, then this professor is for you. Tons of homework every week, quizzes every other lecture, and attending all available office hours are what you have in store. She is a wonderful person, but perhaps not the ideal instructor.
Awful professor
Midterm averages were always low and brutal, only saving grace were the TA sections. I wish the tuition I spent on this university gave me a better teacher.
Nandini gets a lot of hate, but man before college I didn't know anything past Algebra I, and a year later I'm up to Calc II. WIthout the rigor and workload of her college algebra course, I absolutely wouldn't be able to survive the later math courses. The class is tough if your math background is weak, but you'll appreciate your effort in calculus
save your sanity and take Applied Math 3 or do this at community college or self learn and pass the math placement test
ive never struggled with a math class until i took this. i learned more from my ta than i did during lecture. she doesn't go in-depth on most (if any) concepts, she teaches like this is all review for us. the first test class average was a 42, and she blamed it on how we studied. no curve, says everyone's grade is their own.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Literally made me want to drop out of school. Her teaching style is so bad, she thinks she's being innovative by creating new methods but she just complicates the concepts 100 times more. Every person I knew had no clue what was going on and failed every exam. If you want to pull all-nighters and cry this class is for you.
This is easily the worst math teacher I have ever had in my entire life. This class was so bad that it made me hate math to the point where I switched my major from Global Econ to Legal Studies just so I could avoid taking math at this university. She seems like a nice person and has good intentions but her talents lie elsewhere.
This teacher is harder than any course I've taken, which includes cse 13s and bme260. I repeated this course with a different professor and got a very high grade
she struggles a lot with technology so often a lot of class time is wasted but she's very kind and genuinely likes teaching students. Exams weren't hard but if you didn't try and learn you definitely wont pass. A lot of reviews talked about her accent, yall are just racist cause you can totally understand her
Professor Bhattacharya struggles with technology, but she's kind and passionate. The material is challenging, but using resources like unstuckstudy AI and study groups can help. Attend class and do the work to succeed.
I just took the midterm. Everyone failed. She does not teach at all, and all she does during lectures is make many mistakes and say, "Are you with me?" No one is with her. She doesn't grade; the TAs do, so your grade really depends on who you have for TA. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you don't wanna crash out.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She makes simple concepts much more complicated than they need to be which confuses everyone. She speeds through her lectures and just assumes everyone is "with her" while we are all frantically trying to write down everything on her paper. She also often makes mistakes. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
I dropped this class because I knew that, if I had stayed, I would've failed. I love math and was genuinely looking forward to taking this class, but I literally could not comprehend anything she taught. Like others have mentioned, she seems caring and passionate, but I need to emphasize that she CANNOT teach. PLEASE do not take this class with her
Nandini gives subpar lectures, overcomplicates concepts, and assigns far too much homework. She is also not a lenient grader and does not curve tests despite repeated low performance. She also doesn't take criticism well. Nandini is a genuinely lovely person, but that does NOT translate to her teaching style. Stay far, far away from this class!!
A lot of people are complaining about the course, but they aren't putting in enough effort. Make sure to do the homework and worksheets, they're free points. Attend office hours for extra credit and spend time understanding concepts. She doesn't teach well, but the course weighting is good. I think she's a great person, but a terrible teacher.
Whoever says that we got our grades by "not trying hard enough" is lying. Nandini was an awful professor who blamed her class for getting poor grades for using ChatGPT? not her horrific teaching. She was vague and her TA's would out-teach her in their sections.
If you take this course, you are teaching yourself. The course isn't impossible, but it takes a lot of studying and practice. Nandini does not help or lecture well, so your grade is in your own hands. 25% ended with an A, 25% with a B, 35% with a C, and 15% failed the course. Good luck. Do all the practice exams and use LSS and TAs for help!
I took calc in high school and I thought this was an easy class. I had friends who didn't and they thought it was a hard class. She's nice.. but she explains things way harder than they are, and she makes mistakes when answering problems on her slides. If you have the time to study on your own time take the class. The hw is harder than the tests.
Found this class pretty difficult. Her explanations of simple problems were hard to follow. Weekly homework that was super long (edfinity). Midterm and final were really challenging. Very much a teach yourself class. Sweet lady though, clearly cares.
I LOATHE this class. Learn from a textbook with mistakes by yourself. Go to lecture only to scramble for lecture attendance credit, which is some 6Q quiz that we have 10 mins to complete, or rip your grade. So vague about what we need to know for exams. Explains concepts by giving an explanation for how the formula came to be. Get anyone else.
"Are you with me?" "No, queen". Nandini is a very nice and sweet professor, but the lectures are so poor that I leave the lecture every time knowing less than I walked in knowing. I think a digital format, such as projecting with an iPad, would be better than writing on paper with a pen on printed reading notes for organizational purposes.
do not take this class trust me just don't do it
yeah v do NOT take this class. wait to take it w a different professor. ANYONE is better. im fighting my life not to crash out during every lecture! lectures are disorganized.
Overall, Nandini has the intentions of a great teacher however her execution falls flat when it comes to translating calculus to students in a comprehensive way. lecture includes an attendance quiz w/ difficult questions in it on material we barely learned & the time we receive to complete these quizzes is not enough. i felt unprepared for tests.
do not take this class with nandini, wait to take it a different quarter for a different professor. even while using all the resources available for outside help, the tests are brutal and do not match the practice tests she gives prior to the exams. her lectures also just reiterates the readings which are not helpful, rushes 8q lecture quizzes.
this class convinced me to quit STEM
I think if professor nandini and her 309 students weren't on a sinking ship and she had 309 life jackets she would talk one for herself and throw the rest in the water, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
