Great Professor! She is professional, easy to understand and very helpful. Highly recommend her classes. As long as you do the homework and show up to class, this is an easy A. Most people passed with A's and B's.

She is so totally awesome! I never understood Calculus until I took this class. Everything on the exams are either the homework problems or on the practice emam. So, study off of those and you should do fine.

She does not have a hard accent. Her lectures are very clear. Her exam review sheets are identical to the real exams, only different numbers. She rarely makes mistakes, very knowledgeable. Study the HW, quizes, and especially the review sheet and you will do fine. No tricky questions.. no surprises.. ME LIKE!

I dont understand why pp think her accent is hardly understandable. Im an international student and i took her class in my 1st semester, she was pretty clear in everything. Everyone in my class thinks she is a good & nice teacher even when some of them had not really good grades. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking her class, esp the high level ones.

Her name is deceptive, she is totally HOT! Late 20's early 30's? Anyway, her lectures, homework, and quiz's are digital so you MUST have a computer with internet at home. Very professional in appearance with straight forward, fair expectations. It is unfortunate, however, that no matter who teaches me, I still have much difficulty with math.

Professor Maekawa is a fantastic math teacher. I am normally terrible with math, but felt confident with my ability after taking her class. She is very patient, and breaks problems down so they seem simple. I strongly recommend taking her class.

She does a good job of breaking down the problems and explaining them. There is alot of on-line homework to do but it really helps come test time. I hate math and I got an A. She gave extra credit for going to the S.I. tutoring center which helped. I never used the book just used the on-line version. Just purchase the access code for the book.

First off, I've been getting straight C's in math all my life & D's twice - I suck at math. &, I have a B currently heading toward an A. It's amazing! This is the best Math professor I've had. She gives easy extra credit and if you don't understand something she's very helpful. All of the homework and quizzes are online so if you don't like that DON'T take her class. If you listen to her and take the practice exam,you'll do great. The problems on the exams are straight off the test.

Took her for math 10. She forces you to buy a clicker for participation. Standard 4 tests=100 points, online hw,online quiz, and final= 200 points. She is very clear and easy to understand. Great professor but couldn't finish this semester because she went on maternity leave.

She is absolutely crystal clear when it comes to lecturing. She has a structured way to her class that makes it so you know what you do every day and what is expected of you. All homework and quizzes were online, but you could redo quizzes three times if you wanted. Getting a good grade in the class was easy.

I have always had a hard time but thanks to two semesters with Naoko it is not something I fear anymore. She explains everything so well and is so attentive. I have never had a math teacher of her caliber before. I'm so relieved she will be teaching stats next semester! I can't imagine taking a math class with another professor!

I've taken her in both of my math classes. Got a 95% in the first and in one right now. She makes the class so easy for you! Yeah its math and math is hard, but she gives VERY doable homework and you get a study guide that greatly prepares you for her test....BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Prof. Maekawa is a wonderful instructor. The class was very hard, but I really enjoyed it. Its a hard course, so be prepared to study a lot. Do all hmwk and quizzes, and study the practice exam. She is very helpful and is willing to help if you go to her office to do hmwk.

Third and final semester with Naoko after taking her Math 10 and Math 30 classes. She truly is the BEST in the OCC Math Dept. It's not that her class is easy, but she is so helpful and clear that as time goes by your math skills will grow. her test are nothing like her study guides and you have to do all HW and Quizzes, and beacuse she doesn't curve grades. If your not good at math don't take her class.

Professor Maekawa is a great teacher. Before her algebra class, expressions were a foreign language, and I have now mastered the concept. She is GREAT. TAKE HER CLASS, I cannot emphasize this. To those who say her accent is bad, you obviously lack the attention span of a basic math class.

I love her! She really takes her time explaining concepts to the class. Sometimes it gets tedious though because she does so many examples sometimes, I think but it really helps you to learn. Homework is super easy. You can retake quizzes three times. Test are really similar to the study guide (maybe easier). Plus, we do some questions in class.

Shes a kind teacher. She helps you with what ever question(s) you have. It's a pretty easy class. Im average when it comes to math and I passed. If you want to pass this class get at least a c on the home work, quizzes and test. And study the Practice exams! Practice exams are identical to the real test, test questions are not difficult! Her class is amazing. I'm absolutely terrible at math, but Prof. Maekawa made me understand it quite well now. I took her Math 10 class last semester and I'm finishing up her 30 class this semester. A's in both. She has online homework and quizzes, so with 300 points online and 600 pts in class, an A is doable, she just makes you work for it.

She's great and understandable. She has a bit of an accent but it's not bad. I received a B in her class and I didn't do some HW assignments and missed two quizzes, but I went into her office hours and aced the tests. Everything is on My Math Lab, its makes thing simple and easy.

It's Algebra so it wasn't easy, but doable. She is a fair grader. She gives you a lot of chances to get your grades up. There is available extra credit. i would take classes from her again.

Math is not my strongest subject and have struggled with other professors but she is awesome. She was clear and gave really easy examples that prepared you for all the test. Really straightforward and gives plenty of opportunities to ask for help. Make sure you do your homework and practice exams and you are SET!

She is phenomenal! I was not really good at math in high school, so I was a nervous wreck walking into college for math. But after a week or two, those nerves died. She teaches at a perfect pace (in my opinion) and don't be afraid to ask questions because she will answer all of them. I also got tutoring. I'm currently taking her again for math30.

I hate math with a passion. Hate everything about it really. So math in general is hard to get through. Maekawa doesn't make math enjoyable (nothing ever will for me) but she made it clear and made it as easy as possible if you kept up with the work. If you have questions, ask 'em - she's all business and transparency in Math 030. 10/10 recommend

Go to class, take good notes!!! She cares more than most teachers I have had. Extremely helpful in her office hours, and helps you get the grade, but you MUST work for it. Lectures are wonderful, she goes through exactly what you need to know and is very concise. I hope I get to take her class again! You'd be lucky to get into her class!

Can take over and over until you get an A. Online quiz every few chapters. You get 3 chances to take it. Overall, super easy A. Can't believe it.

Currently in her Calc 1 class. This is my second time taking Calc 1 and she makes it effortless to understand. It never clicked before taking with this teacher. HW is all online and worth huge chunk of your grade which sucks, but some may like that it buffers your grade. No trick questions! Very caring. I recommend to anyone scared to take Calc.

Make it super easy to understand, just do homework and online quizzes for the points, and just follow what she does on the practice test and copy it down exactly. Then you will be golden with an A on the test. Real test is exactly like practice test she just change the number on the question. So get the concept down asap and be done.

This is the second time I've taken Calc 1, so I know when it's being taught well vs not. Prof Maekawa explains the difficult concepts in such a crystal clear way so it makes sense on what step to take next. There's no trick questions. She drills the fundamentals that we're all lacking from algebra & trig. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. She truly teaches calc.

Shes a good professor but class can get boring. We never got out early & we were sometimes expected to stay after a test for lecture. She goes through notes pretty fast & she can word things weird. I pretty much learned all the hard topics through the homework.

Naoko is a pretty good professor. Good, but not perfect. There are days when lecture is fun and there are days when I can't wait to run for the door. The material is challenging and class moves quickly. She expects you to know your trig--no review. The study guide is helpful and pretty close to the actual (challenging) exam. A good choice for Calc.

She drops your lowest test score, so you can bomb one section and still get a good grade. Took this class over summer, lots of hw since it was a six week class but as long as you do the study guide you should be fine. Go to class, pay attention, study the practice exams and you will be golden with an A on the exams.

Amazing professor. This is coming from someone who has dropped 3 math classes in a row and failed two. Regardless of the negative comments, she goes at a pace that is fair for everyone and has clear office hours. She offered many opportunities to make up quizzes, dropping tests to give us the best grades and extending homework deadlines.

Naoko is a great algebra professor. She is definitely not easy, but if you put in the work you will pass. If you need help with any of the material she will take the time to explain it to you in different ways. She really wants her students to succeed and understand the material. You don't need the book as all of the material is on MyMathLab.

Professor Naoko's class is straightforward. Take notes during the lecture, study them and do the MyMathLab assignments. The pace we go at is comfortable, and she helps anyone who needs it. Her A030 class is similar to her A010 class, except for the last month or so bc we move to trig concepts. You can get an A or a high B if you put in the work.

I'm horrible at math. I've failed math once my sophomore year at OCC and got an F. Then I took her class and got a B+. She teaches slowly and will always ask if there's any questions. She will elaborate when asked or if you need to go over a question again. She is very nice!

If you understand math quite well and get it down faster than others she may be the teacher for you. Her explanations can be pretty brief sometimes so this can be a problem if you genuinely don't understand math as quick as others. She can help you but you have to ask if not she'll just assume you know it.

This is a very passable class weather you understand the material or not. all you need to do is take the homework and at home quizzes very seriously and you will get a B even if you fail the tests.

She is a really good teacher. She is always willing to help any student that needs extra help. She also offers tutoring 4x out of the week. Her grading is clear and if you do you homework and turn it all in you will pass.

Prof. Maekawa is a very sweet prof and one of the first who actually made math understandable for me. You use mymathlab for homework, but she does not overload you with work and is open for questions/help after class. There are also opportunities for a little EC, which helps when you get tripped up on the harder concepts.

Honestly have yet to find a math professor that wants you to learn the material until I met this one. There are a lot of tests but plenty of extra credit and she is always available to help you through homework and practice exams. As long as you participate and put in effort, you will succeed.

Professor Maekawa gives lots of extra credit opportunities! Homework is clear and self-paced. Very lecture heavy but I think that is all math courses. She posts study guides before exams which are extremely similar and you receive extra credit (gets added to exam grade) for doing a couple problems in a group. Overall very sweet and caring.

Professor explains things well and is patient when working out questions with students. Online Homework is simple and goes step by step when you need help with a problem. Professor Maekawa is a fantastic math teacher. The class has a good amount of work, but she explains concepts clearly and provides helpful study guides. I found using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook and lectures really solidified my understanding. Overall, I highly recommend taking this class.

Decent amount of homework but it will help pull your grade up. You get to use one notecard per exam and two notecards for the final. I did well in her class but I have always done well at math. She's a good teacher and pretty understanding. I'll be taking her again for Business Calc.

Professor Maekawa is a good teacher for those just learning calculus. Her lectures are very informative and useful, but attendance is mandatory so be ready to show up. There are three main tests + a final, but she goes over a final study guide beforehand that has questions that are pretty much the same, so she prepares you very well!

i recommend people taking her class as she is clear with teaching skills and grading and stuff, she gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities if you pay attention in class and follow any lectures/get homework done, she is also friendly and not strict at all. I liked this class, she allowed us a notecard to take into tests which was helpful. She teaches well, but it's math, it's a lot to remember and each test covers 2 units with around 6 parts per unit. The final is cumilative. Tests make up 45% of your grade and the final 25% so do well, there are only 3 tests before the final. No midterm

Very straight forward and clear about expectations and assignments. I would rate a 5 but the class was very boring. Its math so I don't blame her, I just wish there was more engagement. The class is just non-stop note taking, but it really helps to practice the problems. Shes extremely nice and approachable other than that!

I took this professor for College Algebra and then Business Calc. Her teaching style was easy for me to understand. There were 3 exams and then a final. Homework is submitted online. The exams are pretty similar to the study guide, so make sure you actually study them (unlike me) and you will get a good grade

Her lectures are clear and easy to understand. I struggled with calculus and her notes helped me understand equations consistently. Lots of homework and a quiz for every chapter completed, but you get 3 attempts. She goes over practice exams that are close to the real ones and you can use notecards. Take this professor if you struggle with math.

She is really gentle, kind. The notecard allowed for all the exams was truly very helpful. If u are fairly good at math, getting an A is very easy. She grades very leniently, only deducts lightly for mistakes. As long as u clearly show ur work step by step, u will still get partial credit. What u review is exactly what appears on the actual exams
