A chill young guy, but when it comes to marking he's really hard and it seems like he curves grades up and down as well to get a bell curve, his coms 363 class is much much different then the other coms363 sections and his probably has less work.
Textbook is used. really nice pHD student who is willing to spend extra time after class to help you. As long as you do the assignment in decent English you will get a good mark. Final project isn't too hard to complete but the presentations and speeches are really nerve wracking, at least for me.
No marking scheme at all for any assignment. Comments on returned assignments confusing and full of typos. Quiz had nothing to do with anything but the critical readings, not to mention a wide span of topics with no clarity. If you have the choice take it online.
I personally really liked Naor! His feedback for your assignments can be a little confusing to understand but if you ask him to clarify what he means, he'll explain it to you. Assignments are easy, you don't have to write much, probably just 2 pages max for 3 assignments and everything else is group work, which you'll just split up the work instead
Naor is very helpful and offers extensive comments on all assignments. Coms 363 is a dull subject, so the lecture and powerpoints were dry, but the assignments are all reasonable and if you put some effort in, you will do well. Naor also tries to integrate some lab work into the lectures which was helpful and made the class more engaging.
Naor is a great professor. His instructions are always clear and will go beyond to help students succeed. He can be a tough marker on assignments but if you take the time to put effort in your work you will end up with a good grade. Overall, he wants his students to succeed. Highly recommend this prof.
Sometimes you will really hate how argumentative Naor is (he's a philosophy major) because he will nitpick random stuff and his feedback sometimes don't even make sense (especially regarding grammar). However, Naor is always willing to answer questions and help. He is clear on his teaching, and the grading scale should save you anyways.
No matter how hard you try, he will always try to find stupid mistakes to take off marks. If you say something in class, he makes you feel stupid. However, he is very helpful if you need help!
Naor is a great prof, because he understands things from the student's perspective. He tries to make class interesting, by running discussions and activities. Course content was relevant and interesting. He makes an effort to try to help every student, and get to know you. Only complaint would be that the course is a little unstructured.
Mr. Cohen was not very approachable or helpful in any manner. Answered all of my questions with another questions during OH sessions. It was like he was talking through students, ignoring their concerns and questions. He made several errors both with marking and during lectures, mixing up the dates which was frustrating.
He is very passionate about the topic, super helpful when you ask questions. really cared about students. the class is also very interesting.
Did not care about the class or the students. He would purposely ask a question and then proceed to disregard anything the student would say and make them feel dumb in front of the class. Seemed more interested in his vacation at the end of the semester then teaching or marking the reports. The class was not very good as well.
Naor was one of my least favourite profs in the business faculty. He was extremely unhelpful when asked questions outside of class, and rushed through the course material with little regard for the students.
Naor is very passionate about the topics and student success. If you are willing to approach him and be engaged in his class, you will do well. He is very refreshing compared to other profs in Haskayne.
One of the most transparent profs I've ever had. Truly cares about student's success and making lectures fun through class activities. Lectures don't cover all testable content but they are worth going to.
Naor is probably one of the best profs I have ever had in the business faculty. He always wants to know what you are curious in and he sends his students info on opporitinities in the university specifically to you. YES! he remembers what you want to do! Only gripe, he can be a bit vague when answering questions...
One of the best profs in Haskayne! He is passionate, approachable, and really cares for his students to be successful. Sometimes questions on the midterm and final can be a little confusing, probably because of the language barrier, but overall still quite straight forward. Definitely take a course with him if you get the chance to.
Although I love his energy when teaching and cares about his students, the guidelines/rubrics for the group project and presentation were not clear but he was tough grader. The final exam was written poorly which makes it demotivating to answer it. The written response instructions were unclear as well.
Ive had worse profs but I would not choose a class with him again. Course had a higher grade scale but he still marked tough. Tells you hes "straight forward" and "blunt" but I feel like he used that as an excuse to mark hard and belittle you at moments. Take OBHR in block week or with someone else, somehow ended up my worst grade of the semester
Naor is very passionate and cares a lot about his students success, however he can come off as a little argumentative towards students by contradicting what they say to create class debate. Overall though he is a good prof, and I would recommend him for this class. Midterm, final, group presentation, online quizzes.
Funny conversational teaching style, knows his stuff. Best prof yet, 10/10 would take again
Noar is ok. He is passionate about what he is teaching but he needs to be more specific when it comes to grading. He will tell you not to worry about grades which is just an excuse for him to grade hard. He doesn't provide rubrics but will doc you marks on very specific things that he did not tell you to include.
Probably the best prof I have had so far. He cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed not only in his class but in our life outside of school. He has a good sense of humour and shows a lot of videos from The Office. The class has a lot of group work so you better hope you get a good group or it might be tough. The tests are easy.
Naor was an awesome instructor. Super enthusiastic and interested in what hes teaching. Make sure to study the slides thoroughly for exams. Naor wants you to succeed, dont be afraid to go talk to him!! Very approachable and would take this course with him again! Only critique: the grading scale but I believe its standard across all OBHR classes.
I love Naor as a person. He is approachable and extremely kind, and his complaints about his kids are hilarious. What sucks is that the lecture material and the textbook are so damn boring. Also he didnt give us the grading rubric for group project until two days before the due date. As long as you study slides well you should be fine for exams
The course itself is reasonably interesting. However Naor is very down to earth and understanding of his students. You either love him or hate him but I thought he did a good job engaging students in lecture and providing reasonable assignments. Tests are easy.
Such a horrible class
One of the worst professors I have ever had at this school. Super arrogant, condescending, unclear expectations, random participation marks that get announced in the last 2 minutes of class. His only impressively attribute is how lazy he is. He talks more about his kung-fu than the lecture material and the class teaches half the course. Avoid.
Naor is just a horrible professor. He tries to be helpful but just comes off condescending and downright mean. Also, his system for participation marks is trash. You shouldn't have to put long hours outside of class to complete a participation assignment, which he then marks super hard. I don't think any of the 453 profs are any good so good luck.
Terrible class. Avoid
I am shocked to read positive reviews for this prof and I'm very curious as to who wrote them. Naor is undoubtedly one of the most difficult profs to work with in the business faculty. He contradicts himself on a daily basis and you will be the one to pay for his mistakes. Unpleasant bedside manner and very disruptive when asked q's in office hours
Naor stood out as a memorable but not in a good way. The work was managable but enduring Naor's lectures took a toll on my sanity! He is very proud and confrontational, not afraid to call out and debait with random students-even the shy quiet ones! Loved talking about himself and his resilience. Seemed like he was always in a bitter mood. Watchout!
He doesn't really know what he's doing, and that refers to a lot of things. He is a big supporter of in-class discussions, mostly because he is unable to fill the time with anything else. The discussions always felt pretty low value, with everyone repeating the same points to get participation. His grading also feels very arbitrary.
I didnt really like him, he came off as very arrogant and its his way or the highway. He regularly contradicts himself in class. Lots of small participation marks so attendance is required to do well, but BEWARE, just because you participated, doesnt mean you get full marks, he arbitrarily assigns the marks. p
class was horrible, naor doesnt give clear grading criteria and takes months to mark stuff. Dunno know why he got so many good reviews on here about being a caring and down to earth prof hes condescending to most students imo
I have taken MGST 453 with him this term I can tell he really cares about his students. He wants his students learned mistake and improved. He always willing to help and enthusiastic about his content. For example, he always wanna help students with the big project and change his schedule to meet with students even not in his office hours. No curve
Taking MGST 453 with Naor was great! he was very accommodating and encouraging throughout the semester - I believe it was his first time teaching MGST 453 online and it went very well. Naor extended deadlines, got guest speakers, and gave class time to work on assignments. Moreover, he gave excellent feedback and provided clear rubrics.
It's perplexing to read positive reviews about this professor. I have a strong intuition that the good reviews are written by he himself to boost ratings so that students actually register in his lectures. This is not a prof that is approachable for help and his lack of empathy and patience for students is unbelievable
The class as a whole is pretty easy, although the content he teaches is useless. His organization and delivery of the course is unbelievably poor , and he provides little criteria on how he grades submissions. Hes also very condescending and inconsiderate if you have any concerns regarding how his class is taught. Avoid if at all possible.
I really like his teaching style. He is very energetic and he tries to make class interactive. As a person who loves to talk in class and answer questions I think it is great, but if you get nervous by profs calling on you, maybe try a different class. Midterm was pretty easy but Idk about the group project yet, overall a great class!
Naor is clearly a passionate professor who really hated not being able to interact with his class in-person. He did his absolute best to keep lectures interesting and I applaud him for it, but at the end of the day, lectures for this course were simply not necessary
Naor is a very nice prof and I can tell that he missed interacting with students in person. I definitely want to take a class with him again once school is in person again. He tried his best to make online lectures as interactive and fun as possible. Try to take this class with him for sure! There is a chance for 2% extra credit too.
holy crap is this guy ever annoying and rude. way too full of himself and obnoxious. by far the worse prof in haskayne. he is definitely writing his own reviews on here because he needs validation that he's a "cool" and "funny" prof but he's just not so stop trying so hard. 2.3/10
Noar is one of my favourite professors at University of Calgary. He is super understanding and wants to get to know all of his students. It is super easy to book office hours with him. He tries to keep his lectures interesting with video clips and discussions. The group paper is marked fairly and if you put in the effort you will get a good mark.
Awesome guy, interesting to listen to and ask questions. Great course overall. Study up for the tests and you will do fine.
Naor really tries to engage with the class and learns more about his students which really helped make his class enjoyable. Overall for the course, lectures were very straightforward and he would provide hints of what would be on the quizzes. I would highly recommend taking OBHR 317 in block week with him.
Deceptive, manipulative, controlling, and egotistical. That's naor in a nutshell. I walked by his office and actually saw this website open on his desk. He must be monitoring it to bump his reviews. If you don't want to deal with a teacher who is confrontational and motivated to teach by the wrong reasons, then enroll with a different prof!
Taking a course with Naor is one of the worst decisions I made in uni. He makes things so much more complicated than they are and tries too hard to be that unique teacher. I also think he gets pleasure out of winning arguments with students like he has some kind of vendetta. Take my advice and find a better prof. This one's too much work and rude.
Naor is a bit rude, short, and arrogant. Class is useless and doesn't teach anything. Lots of busywork but nothing of value. Wants students to attend every class with webcam on so he can treat us like we're children. He is disorganized and poorly prepared. Always something going awry with dates, tech, or content itself. Not a fan but typical HSB.
Stunned to see any good reviews of Naor. He sparks debates in class, which is fine, however a lot of the time he either cuts students off or twists their words. He was extremely condescending, rude and didn't respect his students. Grading requirements are very vague, which makes it difficult to know what he wants from you. Avoid if you can.
Speaks with such an emphasis in his tone like he is entitled to everything. No one should have this much confidence and faith in themselves. Or if they do they should at least be able to back it up.
Had this guy for OBHR 317 (block week) and MGST 453. He is extremely clear in his marking and his tests are very fair. If you go to class, do the homework, and try to do well with the group projects you will do well in the course. Naor is extremely accessible outside of class and he clearly cares and wants you to do well. Solid prof. 5/5
Naor is a pretty good prof. OBHR is extremely dense and he tries his best to make it entertaining and fun for students. He does rush sometimes and leaves the rest of the lecture for people to do at home which can be annoying.
He is hands down my favourite prof at Haskayne. His lectures and engaging and easily understandable. He does have a very strong personality which is why there's a lot of bad reviews, but he is so funny and if you participate in class, then he will really like you!
Gives clear study outlines for midterm and final. Group project has a little less clear outlines but Naor is available for any questions and tries to make it clear as possible. Offers grade bonuses. He tries to make his class entertaining but attendance is mandatory as all his information is on slides. Still would recommend taking this class.
Naor is a real gem. Get to know him outside of class and pay attention to his lectures and you'll do great. OBHR 317 is a dry course, but he spices up the content with his personal experiences and is very funny. While he can be blunt and a bit boring, I'd say he's a great choice.
his lectures are very engaging it was one of the only classes i wouldn't fall asleep in, easy A if you take notes during lecture/review his lecture slides a lot.
Firstly, Naor's personality is not for everyone. He is very engaged and expects you to be as well. That said, I have taken three courses with Naor and I love his teaching style! He doesn't assign much homework, he is a fair grader with opportunities to recoupe or improve your grade, and is super accesible outside class. Fun lectures as well.
I really like him as a prof! He is very extroverted and clearly passionate about OBHR ( I had him twice now). The course OBHR 493 is a easy class since we do in class negations and it is pretty chill as we are learning by trying new tactics every week. I still have to write the final but the midterm was easy so I think it is a easy A.
I highly recommend OBHR 317 with Prof. Cohen! Engaging lecture style and won't shy away from debating any kind of topic. The downside to this class would be the group project (worth 45%). If you have any irresponsible group mates, focus your energy on picking up the slack on the essay and pray the video goes well. Easy bonus credit (2%)
Block week with Naor was a great decision. He is super fun and engaging in the long lectures, and the quizzes were pretty fair. He also graded the group video and paper very fairly, and if you put in the effort you can do well in this course. There is also an opportunity for bonus marks which can really help
Naor was a helpful and thoughtful professor. I enjoyed his class and would take another with him. Thought he was very understanding of students and enjoyed delivering lectures on content in OBHR he clearly cares about.
Naor is a fantastic professor and my favourite I've had at Haskayne. He is a super nice individual that cares about his students. 70% of our final grade this semester is from exams. However, after taking the mid term, I can confidentally say that Naor is a super fair tester. Just read his slides and you will do great on the exams!
He is a great teacher because he levels with the students and shows the material in a real world setting
Naor was easily one of my favourite Haskayne profs. He always tried to make the lectures interesting, fun, and applicable. I was always happy to be in his class and didn't find myself counting the minutes until it ended (like I usually do with other classes). I hope to take a future course with him someday.
Probably my favourite class taken at U of C since starting my degree. I actually looked forward to his lectures, and was upset when I couldn't make it to some. He is super fun and engaging, and I learned a lot from him and his lectures.
Truly one of University of Calgary's finest. Engaging, passionate, entertaining, intelligent and funny - he really just checks all the boxes.
BW- Naor has made OBHR317 the best class I have taken since starting my degree. He is really passionate and genuinely cares about his students. He is always willing to offer extra support to students whether it be personal or academic.
Naor is the best professor I have ever had. He delivers high-quality lectures that teaches students the importance of how and why we learn. He is also inspirational on every level. Naor truly cares for his students and is passionate about teaching. He is enthusiastic and aims to meet all of the student's standards as well as his own. Truly amazing.
One of my most favourite class, and Noar is an amazing prof. His negotiations are super fun and he creates a very safe enviornment for all students so that they can explore their negotiation style. I highly recommend taking this class with Naor.
I can honestly say I am the worst for attending lectures, especially if I can find all of the needed info on slides. However, this was the first class I have ever taken that not only have I gone to every single lecture, but I actually enjoyed attending his lectures. They were fun, easy to listen to and easy to stay engaged.
I had him online and I feel bad barely anyone would show up to class, he really tried his best. Lectures were long and hard to follow online. Group project was straightforward (if you have a good group), we met with a TA which helped a lot. Midterm and final were a time crunch but all questions were covered in lecture.
OBHR 647 - MBA Negotiation class Loved this course and would highly recommend it to everyone! He is an amazing prof! He teaches really well and wants everyone to learn and succeed. There were people from all over the world in his class.
He taught OBHR 672 that is not listed here. He was a terrible professor, his 2 part final consisted of a case study (he didnt teach us how to do them) and a multiple choice final based on his lecture slides (which he did not go over). Not sure why anybody likes him, for this HR class all he did was talk about personality tests and motivation...
The most inflexible, unkind professor I have ever had. The university should have him replaced ASAP. Hard marker, unfair marker, unclear rubrics, rude. This professor does not care. Thinking of taking the MMgmt program at Haskayne? DON'T. I wouldn't wish this program or this professor on my worst enemy. Save yourself. Avoid at all costs.
My experience with the professor, without a doubt, is horrible. No Respectful communication, which is a basic expectation in any environment, but this individual seems to have 0 regard for common decency. An absence of empathy n understanding. He has no interest in nurturing a positive n supportive learning atmosphere, which is detrimental.
My experience with this professor has been deeply disappointing. Respectful communication, crucial in any learning environment, is missing. There's a lack of empathy and effort to create a positive atmosphere. This hampers learning and student growth. In short, this class was nothing short of awful and the professor was the primary catalyst of that
The. worst. prof. ever. No words can define how TERRIBLE of a professor this guy was. He spoke about creating a safe space in class while at the same time DESTROYING students in conversation. You have an opinion it doesn't matter because it's wrong, you think you are right; too bad you're wrong. Avoid him at all costs and save your mental health.
If you're thinking about taking his class, dont! The bad ratings about him are 100% accurate. He was probably one of the worst professors I've had and he ruined my favourite class for me. His grading criteria is ridiculous and he'll force you to participate only to fail you if he doesn't agree with your opinion. He shouldnt be teaching this class.
If I could drop kick someone across the face off the earth, it would be this prof. Who calls themself a narcissist and proceeds to only think his opinions matter. On which earth would someone so obsessed with proving students wrong decide to teach? Do. Not. Take. This. Prof. SOS. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. PROF.
Very tough grader and hard to communicate with when you need help.
Weird course outline and grading system
Naor is the best professor I have ever had. He is funny, he cares about the content he teaches, and most of all, he is REAL. I learned life lessons from him that I will use my whole life. And I typically start skipping lectures, but I went to every single one of his. He is an outstanding professor, and I will be taking more of his classes.
difficult assessments
Good luck trying to get him to respond to your emails
His lectures were nice and fun to listen to but when it came to talking personally with him, it felt like he was trying to be snarky and had a "this is all common sense" kind of attitude. The 2 exams and the group project weren't too difficult, but the outlines were a bit vague. Overall, he's a fun lecturer but not great to ask questions to.
Just take a different prof if you can
His lectures were quite blunt and the entire grade was based on a group project that he did not monitor or give clear instructions for. He bases his lectures more on humour than content and though he is very caring, it does not make up for his lack of teaching.
Hes okay. Gives good feedback and clearly shows you how you should structure assignments. His slides are heavy and he doesnt cover everything, but the topics are simple enough to learn on your own. Peer evals take up a huge chunk of your grade. He has some peculiar/controversial political views. thats the most i can say about that.
The guy is blunt for sure, but you can tell he cares. He is passionate about the course and really wants you to understand concepts so you can apply them to your own life. His grading structure and due dates were a bit unclear, but after he clarified those the rest of the course was a breeze with him.
hard class
just not a good prof
Solid prof. Lectures were engaging. The semester is over and I am still waiting on a lot of marks to come back.
He is a great prof who is very entertaining, I don't love all of the group projects in this course, but they arent terrible either. Overall, a fascinating subject
Just a terrible person not even a bad prof just a bad person
rude dude
awfully blunt for no reason, would not advise taking him at all
Now that I am finished my program, I can say that by far the worse teaching and academic experience hands down. They need to reformat the program based on just how horrible the class was.
No textbooks required, which is nice. But he was cold and uncaring which is ironic considering that he teaches charisma and interpersonal warmth in the course. It was also mandatory to purchase an article he wrote to complete an assignment. Other than that, pretty simple course.
Super tough grader and poor communicator. Definitely avoid if you care about your grades and mental health. Loves to play victim and spin things to weasel his way through situations.
If I could share how much of a headache and heartache this class was I would, but the best thing to do if you have to take him is to drop his course and take it later.
Just drop his course and take a different prof if you can.
He is very cold and uncaring, marks final projects very harshly. Please avoid him.
Disappointed with OBHR317 due to Naor Cohen's ineffective teaching. His lectures were flashy but lacked substance, key concepts were poorly explained. Cohen ignored student concerns, was dismissive when asked for help, and his accent made understanding difficult, leaving students unsupported.hope future students don't have the same experience.
Class was pretty average in difficulty provided that you !!attended class!! I only reviewed the slides a few days before the exams and scored well. Dr. Naor is an engaging prof however, you have to ask questions, otherwise you will lose focus in class. The assignments were fair if you had a cohesive group topic with proper grammar and !!research!!
The group project was easy providing that you had a good group and did research. Avoid him as a prof as he is super snarky, rude, and condescending. Lectures are extremely dry.
He is a good block week professor for sure, I really enjoyed him, I cant say how could he is in a regular semester, but for block week, your in good hands. He does have a snarky and slightly sharp/cunning and argumentative personality, but it works well with the way he taught the class since there's a lot of free discussions.
Easy to do well on exams if you go through the slides and speaker notes; didn't find much value in going to class. Sometimes found he spent too much time on irrelevant topics. Group project was marked fairly, but success may depend on who is in your group. He is funny but has dry humour which may come off as mean.
Professor can be blunt, but the class is engaging. Use Unstuck study and the free textbook to stay on top of things - it really helps with studying and acing the exams.
This professor really cares about what he is teaching and is really engaging. His humour is dry and he's going to challenge you but this is a 4th year course at university. I would take the reviews of this guy with a grain of salt if your willing to listen in class you will learn a lot.
Naor made the class engaging by bringing in guest speakers who talked about their own work and stories. Very fair marker and gave good feedback on the assignments. Don't fully believe the bad reviews, you just have to show up to class and most everything that you will see on the test or papers is covered.
He straight up brought Israeli real estate agents that explained to us the process of colonizing land and how they profited off the backs of a population they exploited. Imagine bringing in someone who teaches you how to expel someone from their land and then sell their home for profit. Craziness.
