DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!! he's hard to understand and challenging!
Very nice and helpful. He is very clear about the material he lectures on. Always willing to help you understand.
He's knows his stuff and is layed-back. I blew some chemicals all over my lab partner and he didn't get too mad. He's cool. Take his class.
I only took the lecture class. I had to drop. He didn't do anything to make it interesting, and practically read quietly from the book. I can do that in a self paced class. Even after a full dose of caffeine I was falling asleep. and I love chemistry.

At first he was a nightmare to me. He talked really fast and hardly paced his lectures. Figuring out what he wanted wasn't that hard. It was all mostly equations. The answers do get weird answers, just too warn you. If you get somehting like 1.03334 you could be correct. Just get your equations and symbols (NA+) and you'll be fine. I got a 96%.
very easy teacher. his lectures suck ass, but he's a pretty cool guy.
I only had him for lab, but he was better at explaining things than my lecture teacher (Tomosada). He lab tests were kinda hard, but the labs themselves were easy.
He appears intimidating at first, but once you get to know him you'll discover that he is very nice, and will take time to give you extra help if needed. Highly recommended teacher.
I had him for 2 semesters, in both lecture and lab. I think his style of teaching is incredibly helpful and is always willing to help students. I missed one of his quizzes that I wasn't prepared for and expected to get an F for it. Instead he completely wiped the quiz off my average grade and didn't knock off points. He's awesome.
He does a good job in teaching. Considering the subject matter, boring moments are understandable. He doesn't go through solving processes thoroughly, but you can remedy that by doing all the homework.
He's a nice teacher, whose lectures are helpful and somewhat easy to understand. Sometimes he rushes through materials to stay in line with deadlines.
I enjoyed this class. Taking it in the summer means lots of material covered in a short time, however, the quizzes helped. He followed the textbook, and if you do the practice problems, you can do well. He was very approachable. Knows subject well and explains concepts for understanding. On exams, he was a fair grader. I enjoyed it!
Good professor overall. Kind of boring to listen too, but everything he covers in class ends up on the exams. Follow the study guide and do the review problems for a good grade. Final grades are based on the ****ulative class average.
Great teacher, he explains the material in a way that is easy to understand. He really knows his stuff and is a very fair grader. A lot of material to cover and in order to get a good grade you must study. The quizzes he gave really helped. Made me like chemistry and I hate science and math.
Possibly the most BORING prof always rushing through material to keep up with his deadline, condescending, AVOID! at all costs if you like CHEM because you will hate it after this class. Doesn't care about anyone's questions! VERY uninspiring, makes you feel inadequate! course was not too hard but he makes it more difficult & with no extra credit!
no extra credit! hard to understand, made me feel worthless. a student that dropped asked about an equation he wanted to refresh on and Pandya said"im not here to teach you algebra!" never seems to be friendly or approachable at all, think he likes it that way so he has less students in his class so less work to correct, only 12 students at the end
Naresh is a sweetheart. Makes chemistry bearable and even interesting. I'm really glad I'm taking his class. He has exams every two chapters so it's all fresh in your mind and they're not that hard if you're keeping up with the reading. No homework assignments, just the exams. Great class!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, you can show up everyday and understand the material yet somehow no one gets an A and there is no curve or extra credit because he said he doesnt believe in that... ruined my gpa when class was not that difficult
Great teacher, very helpful, easy class I havent read the book once and getting an A, just go over the workbook problems, and keep at it. You just do your work and come to class hes more than willing to help, and he does notice if your there or not
He's a great lab instructor and I imagine a great chem professor. Also, his labs are simple, easy to understand, and usually you're done an hour early. He gives weekly quizzes but theyre basically problems from the prev. lab.
i just had him and OMG! a lot of information which a regular brain cannot handle in just one semester. Its hard if you dont keep up and if you miss 1 or 2 lectures..youre in trouble! he has no mercy on the exams, a little mistake and it affects the percentage a lot!!! i recommend him if you wanna challenge yourself!
I took him this past summer. It was a lot of information to be learned in just over 5 weeks but he made it possible. I really respect his way of teachig and he teaches it well. Great assest to KCC, would take him again if needs aise in the near future
I had him during this past summer. It was fast paced but if you study and come to class like you are supposed to, you can get an A. All these whiners posting on here are the same ones that whines about every other teachers anyway. Bottom line: He is fair, and teaches very well. Right on Dr. Pandya.
Professor pandya is a great instructor, he knows his material very thoroughly and it shows. I would definitely take his class again should the need arise.
pandya is cool!!! indian-british accent lol. he says formular with an R at the end haha. hes fair!!!!! take him!
He's a great guy, quiet, unassuming,& very humble. He is fair, has quizes every week (7-10q)and these u can use to study for the exam.I took chem from 2 dif. profs, & i must say, if it werent for Pandya I wouldnt have passed (got B).The content is tough, but study the book attend class everyday! He's sweet & helpful w/an awesome accent. Thanks Prof
I like him but he should grade on a curve. He doesn't grade on a curve so my gpa is ruined. My overall average right now is at 87% and the class avg is at about 71%. No extra credit no curve. Its going to ruin my gpa. the last exam the avg was 62 and i got an 84 but still no curve. talk about strict.
He is a great Chem Prof. It is a difficult subject and he doesn't grade on a curve because it is a prerequisite so you need to understand as much as possible for the next class. Answers questions clearly, grades fairly (you have to face that when you're wrong, you're wrong). This class requires STUDYING. Don't expect an A without hard work.
He is a great guy. Visited him during office hours and he was always helpful. The man knows chemistry and it shows. No curve but oh well, I'll get the A next time. His exams are much easier than the homework (which stresses me out). That was until the final where he asked a lot of difficult questions lol. I should've prepared harder.
The man is a Chemistry genius. I would wake up very early just for office hours. Helped me every single time. He knows his ish. Tough subject but if you study, seek his help, you will pass. Gives the same format each exam, half multiple choice, half calculations. Thought he was tough early on but he wants you to succeed.
I take back what I said about the curve. Who cares, the man is fair. My fault I didn't do better on the exams w/careless errors. Provides online study guide, his webpage is full of help. Take him if you're willing to study, you'll do well. I did alright. The ones complaining are the ones who don't like to study. Extremely helpful! Loved his class
Good guy, good teacher. Wish he would teach 162. Very helpful, and he grades fairly. Way to go Dr Pandya! Study study study and an A is achievable. KCC is lucky to have him.
i'm reading all the comments on here and it's kinda not fair that KCC students get to have quizzes. But i'm guessing that it is because it's a 100 level class and not the reagular 161 class. Also, this class in only based on three exams and it's only scantron so there is no partial points. But this is coming from the UH manoa perspective, not KCC.
He is a hard professor bev=cause he goes really fast through the power point and does not work very much the problems in class.I took the same class with another professor I thought his method of teaching was very poor.I dont think he cares that much for the students. That was my personal experience with him. Also he does not give any extra credits
He didn't help me or other students when we asked for help, told us to refer to the book. He read from the slides and did the examples on the powerpoints.
He gives you everything you need to succeed. He puts up the study guide for free, power point, extra sources, everything to make you successful. Take another teacher who isn't as involved and good luck. This is a tough subject so you will need to study. I'm not that bright but I still got an A. Just put in the time. Later.
i love this professor! he explains very clearly, he goes along with other classes, making sure that what he's covering in lab is what you're learning or going to learn in lecture. He is very understanding and takes the time to help you. As long as you remember to read before coming to lab, you're guaranteed an A.
Do not take his summer course unless you have all of your time to devote to studying. Prof. Naresh was reading of the slides; and sometimes if he was running behind for the last 15 -20 min of the class he would read of his own slides ( also avail. online) SOO fast, he was almost loosing his breath. The score average for the class was %56.
He was an alright teacher, uses a lot of lecture. my biggest problem with him was that when a student would ask a question, 9 times out of 10 he misunderstood their question and went off on a huge tangent answering a question they didnt ask, so most students learned not to ask any questions.
Naresh was very good about checking our labs before grading. Just bring it to him. He'll feed you the answer or how to do it. Lab is hard to keep up, it's once a week and the following you'll get quizzed on the lab. I'd forget what I did a week ago. You'll also get two questions about the current weeks lab. Gotta read up.
I took this course during the summer and to my suprise it was an easy A. His tests are straight forward. He breaks everything down in a way that makes it east to understand. I would recommend him to everyone.
Very helpful professor, always eager to help. Sometimes it was a little hard to stay awake in class, but overall a pretty good experience.
Dr. Pandya knows his stuff, is always willing to help his students out, even when the same question is asked over and over. You have a lab due, and a quiz every week; just do your lab correctly, study for your quizzes, and you'll get a good grade. I do recommend you take his lecture class as well; and pick a fun and good lab partner - it'll help.
Took Dr. Pandya's online class. I recommend that if you're not a self-learner, or new to chemistry, that you take a class on campus. Dr. Pandya's very helpful, though, and responds to his emails regularly and quickly. He'll even meet with you during his office hours. For me, though, it was a tough, but I got through it. Ask questions and keep up.
I am really sick of this professor. His HW is esay, but when you have question for your HW, don't expect you will get any useful help from email. Somethimes you will get back your email for 2 days later, and the exam already pass.
Took this class online. Lots of homework, but if you do it you should do well in the class. He makes multiple sources of support available and is very accessible himself. Tries to help students learn and do well.
I just finished the summer session 162 class. It is a grind. Dr. Pandya frequently assigns 2 chapters per week with mandatory homework of approximately 60-100 questions. Unless you can devote your life to this class, wait till fall or spring. He'll answer questions on laulima if students don't, but for me it was hard to do tests on four days study
Took his class online and it was brutal. You must study frequently in order to do well in this class. If chemistry is not your strongest subject, take it in class. However, he is very helpful during his office hours and truly cares for his students. His goal is not only for you to pass, but prepare you for the higher chemistry courses.
The textbook should be your bible. Study till you know the material, don't memorize the concepts. Pandya's class is tough but fair.
this guy's course was tough. he makes you use your mind when you take exams. questions may seem straightforward at first but you need to remember other things he mentioned to get the correct answer. i enjoyed his course probably one of the hardest lab classes that i have taken.
By far the best online class I've ever taken in my college career. I absolutely hate Chemistry, but his online format is perfect. Quizzes every two weeks, final is a combination of 2 chapters. Overall easy class if you keep up with the online homework.
I took his online Chem 161 class, and it's not easy. We just have to study and do homework. Quizzes were hard. He is a great professor, and he gives a lot of extra credit. Very helpful professor, always eager to help.
Very challenging. His tests are NOTHING like the homework so I suggest you study beyond what is expected. Do not take his online course if chem is not your strongest subject. I also have him for LAB. He helps a lot and is very nice. Quizzes are easy if you study them. He also emails you before every hw and testsquizzes to remind you.
I really enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Pandya. The online course for 161 is mostly you reading the book and learning from there. The reading is supported by homework on mastering chemistry. However, the book is very well written and easy to follow. Additionally, the professor is more than happy to answer any and all questions. Generous curve
HW every 2 weeks. Exams are DIFFICULT, but that's how most science based classes are. Our class average for every exam was a C- or below BUT, he gives you all the tools and help you need to succeed, just gotta put in work. VERY GENEROUS. Since our class did so poor he changed his grading scale which boosted us all up one letter grade.
Online homework due every 2 weeks, with quizzes following days after. Lecture is dull and all he does is go over problems that "he" thinks are important, but actually aren't even on the tests. Displays lacking ability to teach the information clearly, unless he chooses the problem which usually has the answer. Overall a difficult class.
Such a nice humble man. Goes way above and beyond. Offers every opportunity to succeed and get an A. Plenty of extra credit. The class could have been extremely difficult without the right professor... I wish I could have him for all of my classes. Do the homework and ask if you have a question. He will be sure to get you on track for success.
He's a good teacher, lectures can be boring but it's not completely terrible. He offers a lot of extra credit even during the summer. Explains topics well.
Naresh is a good and very sincere professor. His office was always open for any questions. He took that extra to help anyone that had questions, he stuck it out with you until you got the content. I would recommend asking him for help when the issue arises. He is precise with class content and exams, in which both coincide with one another.
He is a great professor. flexible person. I recommend his online class.
Took NP for Summer 2018 CHEM161, over half the class dropped. By far the worst professor I have encountered in the KCC system.
He is a very humble good man and everything is very fair. The class itself is very challenging and about 100 hw q's a week but it can be good thing because it forces you to practice. I would recommend him or Parker because these two teachers are amazing and fair.
Professor Pandya is very helpful, very nice. Any time I had a problem he was quick to go above and beyond and help me out. The work for the online class isn't that bad.
Took him for Chem 161. Easy A for me but honestly didn't really learn much. I mostly taught myself. I would take him again for the A buuuuut again, didn't really learn much. Up to what you want.
Prof Pandya seems like a nice enough fellow, reasonable, not strict but there is no teaching. He lists spec power point slides, you tube videos and which homework problems to do in order. That's it. So you basically have to teach yourself chemistry with youtube. Definately work ahead and go to tutoring regularly Chem is awesome but hard af!
Took his online class, and the only good thing about him is that he responds to emails. Everything was a link to a youtube video that HE WASN'T EVEN IN! Then when it came to his homework/quizzes it would be something totally different to what I just learned. If youre going to teach, TEACH. If youre just going to send me links then whats the point?
His online class is not taught by him but rather YouTube videos. Doesn't give clear instructions and his site is overall messy and unorganized. I understand that it can be tough to adjust with COVID but come on man.. teach the class.
Please, find a different CHEM instructor. He doesn't teach the class. Instead, he links us to 10 year old YouTube videos. His instructions are very, very, very unclear and confusing. Tried to ask him for assistance and he just ended up giving me a 10% for a homework. How am I supposed to learn when the only resource is a low-quality YouTube video??
Only have him for lab - keep that in mind. Absolutely would NOT take him for lecture based on teaching style. zero guidance, arbitrary grading. Only good thing is that he gives you the lab quiz questions before hand so you can prepare. No feedback on labs, that sucks b/c you never know what you got wrong. you'll pass if your lecture teacher is good
Find a different chem lab professor. His resources are YouTube videos from 2008. He doesnt give any feedback. I was so confused. Ive never gotten a C until this class.
Definitely would not recommend his class! No lecture, only YouTube video from over 10 years ago! This is ridiculous! He doesn't show the grade and lets the students do their own calculations. This quality is too low, even though it has been over a year since I was forced to take online classes. Please, please, please give me a lecture
Unhelpful and lazy. Would never recommend anyone taking this course with Pro. Pandya. The whole course is self taught through YouTube videos and reading the textbook. No extra credit was available and no help learning the material was given. Worst teach at KCC I've ever had.
Frankly, this class was very easy for me because I took AP Chem when I was in high school. If you took chemistry in high school, this class will be fine. But if this is your first time taking chemistry, then dont take it. She didn't teach anything. There are tons of homework and extracredits and tests are all multiple choices.
No direction at all from professor. Labs are done via "videos" and often are hard to follow. Little instructions and understanding. Professor does not care about their students, not sure if this experience would be different in class or not but there was little effort put into running the class. You also have to buy the lab worksheets??
Online async requires self-teaching. Pros: clear, simple grading (homework, exams), quick email responses. Cons: no instruction from prof (all youtube--khan academy, etc); no guidance on important concepts / test reviews, no extra credit (class was doing well, so no EC). Would not take again/recommend this class/professor w/ this delivery method.
Hybrid- Strong Indian accent, SUCKS at teaching, messy handwriting. So much material and "resources", that it gets overwhelming and hard to study (no study guides provided). He expects so much! He's also very passive-aggressive, making you feel kinda dumb. He treats lectures as "You're supposed to know this!" rather than a learning environment.
I had to drop cuz I dropped the lecture, but overall it was easy. Labs were self-explanatory but when you had questions, he sucked at answering them. I stuck with asking my classmates for help. Lab quizzes, he took off a lot of points for the smallest mistake. For lab grading itself, he's nitpicky. Quizzes aren't hard if you study the material.
This class is so hard to understand the chemistry . Because a lot of content need study by yourself. The homework is also hard and no chance for extra credit. Also, you need a lot of time to study for the exam.
You will not have a single update about your grades. He expects you to know everything prior to coming to class. He is very knowledgeable and smart and he is excellent at chemistry! But I hope he considers his way of teaching. Great thing about him is he has a lot of office hours & offers to review one on one every time. He's also very responsive.
I'm pretty sure he only does online classes. He does not give good feedback, he marks you for the smallest things and doesn't even tell you why. If you go to his office hours or ask a question to refresh a topic or help out, he will refer you back to the lecture (which is just given not taught). You need to have good knowledge on chem before it all
Will mark you wrong and not tell you why, does not give helpful feedback if you ask for it (will just say you misunderstood it). He does grade fast, and the lab is easy to follow if you have good knowledge. The instructions for the lab are also quite confusing sometimes, i think its because he switches and mixes words. will not round grade (got 89)
I enjoyed lab w/ Pandya! I'm very particular about small details and sig figs in general, so I wouldn't take this class if you aren't. Pay attention to the "briefing" email he sends at the beginning of every week and prepare your answers before taking the lab quiz. Make sure you submit scratch work. Overall, recommend 1000% more than Reese at LCC!
