very interesting, makes class fun, very knowledgable, i like her style snd curriculm

Freaken awesome teacher. Don't let her scare you away, cause she's not interesting the first few days to weed out those who don't care about the subject, but she's soooo passionate about her subject. The most honest teacher I've encountered in long time
Not too hard but there is some work involved. She is very willing to help you out, take advantage of it!
she explained things well and kept up a comfortable enviornment
Articulate and SUPER knowledgeable about her topic!
While exceptionally well-versed in the topic, she appeared very overwhelmed at times, curt in tone, and would not wait to hear a student's question fully before responding. Nice person and very knowledgeble, but I left wondering if she really wants to sti
She does know her stuff, and is pretty open to discussions. She canceled our research paper which made me love her but if she hadn't the work load would of been insane. She is very nice but doesn't like dumb questions and will let you know, don't be late for her class. Kind of boring class though.
Wow...If you want to discuss sexism in all its forms, even when it has nothing to do with the subject, or just be generally bored, take this class.
She does know her stuff, and can lecture, but really doesn't have the people skills to be able to teach. She embasasses her students when they have questions she doesn't like. she intimidates you to the point of not wanting to ask her any questions at all.
I took her again because I enjoyed her class so much. She does include some subject matter about sexism in each of her classes and tries to be multicultural in her presentation. Her class does have a bit of work because of group projects but it is good for you. I loved her, she is also very pretty.
she is knowledgable but not good at teaching. unfriendly and intimidating. she will be unhelpfull if you ask a question she doesnt like. oh, and she loves to talk about sex, even though psych 1a is not human sexuality. one research paper, not an easy grader but fair.

she is absolutely intimidating. she does know the material she teaches, but she's not clear when lecturing. lectures are scattered and sometimes things show up on tests that we haven't gone over in class. i've heard her other classes (like psych 1a) aren't as disorganized.
this class had to be one of my most favorite classes i have taken. i love the way she teaches because it goes by quickly but she makes it fun and interesting. if you want to take a class where you learn really amazing things, take her class, you wont regret it!
Yes, this woman in a pistol. She is extremely knowledgable. I found that the first time she embarasses you in class call her on it. She was rude to me and I shot it back, since then she was nothing but polite to me. She is honest, smart, funny, and quick to cut you off while asking a question.
Nasseem is a very intelligent woman. She may be intimadating, but you just have to let her know you won't take her bull. The material is easy and tests were a breeze, just don't fall behind on your summaries.
Great teacher! She made everything so interesting and she did a great job of relating the material to everyday life. The tests were really easy and there was no real busy work. Her lectures were great and she really got me interested in the field. I would recommend her to anyone.
Good teacher, really knowledgeable. However, her tests are really hard and she is a hard grader on the one paper that she assigns. Her lectures are interesting and you get to see a real human brain! She lets you bring food the last day of class which was a nice way to end the year.
She is very intimidating and makes you do tons of group work, so if you dont like group work, dont join her classes. She does know her stuff well and can be nice sometimes but she does make you read and do lots of papers as well.I was not thrilled about doing a presentation either
If you like foreward-thinking, positive, well-educated teachers, she's awesome. She respects you enough to set the standards high. Unfortunately, most students aren't used to high standards. B.S.ing isn't an option; You have to WORK for your grade. Too much lecturing, not enough class-participation.
She is an excellent teacher. She is only intimidating and strict on those who do not do their work. I was really nervous in taking this class and at first Nasseem seem really tough but if you stick with her and do the required work (which is not a lot) you will have a really great experience. I woul
Strict and kind of boring, but work is not that hard and lots of filler grades. Attendance required, but taking notes is not, most of the stuff is right there in the book.
At 1st she seemed intimidating, then as the semester went by she showed off her fun side. Tests = pretty easy, especially if you read. Heavy lectures; lots of note-taking. Not a very laid back class - however, fun. Highly recommend having her if you really want to learn psychology. The whole textbook is covered in this class, not just parts of it.
she is a good teacher, and make her classes fun.
Very easy teaching not too many approach in perspectives of psychology. Do not recommend this teacher

excellent, easy exams, lots of notes tho, but pretty fun class tho
Unclear, judgemental, un-helpful, ****, with ridiculous standards. If you want to take a gender class where your teacher will call people "weirdos" (and not in a nice way) if their sexual preferences are a little unconventional, she's the righ

She is a good teacher. Goes by the book, yet I won't miss classes. Tests are fair. And will take time to explain topics clearly. Although she thinks she's smarter and can seem rude. I highly recommand her.
If you like a fast paced class and learn fast do not take her class. She repeats things many times and her lectures are boring. Way to much work for a 3 unit class. Papers due every week, group research proyect, presentation, plus 4 exams and a final. No extra credit so if you don't do well in exams you will fail. Nice but boring!
way too much work, its a real intresting class i just dont agree with her teaching methods. group research paper is s*** we shouldnt have busy work either, paper is due every week. she repets herself over and over. sometimes i want to fall asleep.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. She continually involves the class in learning and sets a very high and proffesional standard.
Interesting and informative class. Instructor is enthused and excited about material. Weekly papers take about 10 minutes and tests are straight forward. I got an A without a lot of effort. This is the grown up world where you will be held accountable. Get used to it folks.
Interesting teacher who tested fairly and kept your interest. Made you write essays to make sure you read the chapters.
it is really hard to understand what she is talking about. she rushes often and then she keeps on repeating herself. she was in a very bad bicycle accident and her brain was damaged so i feel sorry for her but maybe she needs to fully recover before she teaches again. when it comes to grading she is not sympathetic and just goes by a computer
If your in the mood to be bored out of your mind for 4 hours a week, then I recommend this class!
She is a very plesant teacher to have. When shes asks to see you durning an office hour, its only to help, don't be scared (I was the first time) :)
awesome teacher, very sweet and fun to be around. VERY VERY inviting!
Very nice teacher. The subject itself is somewhat difficult, but she does everything to make it easy. Participation is a must in the class and it is very important to meet with her in her office before the research paper is due, because she will take that into consideration and grade you easier. Watch out, her tests are intense!
Took her back in '02. Just graduated from 4 yr. college and still remember stuff I learned in her gender psych class. Group project that I did was useful and relevant. Got a clear distinction of sexuality. Wish I took her for 1A instead of Mannino...oh well!
The class is filled with lectures and the homework is all reading the text. That's all this class is. If you don't take notes she will notice you and tell you to. The grade is based on how well you do on the 100 question multiple choice tests and finals. One cool thing she did before I dropped was brought in a real human brain for us to touch!
Unfortunately, she immediately shot down any ideas that contradicted her own ideas, and wasn't even remotely helpful in getting through the class. The entire class disliked her.
Unfortunately I had a good impression of this teacher at first; she lectures clearly and slowly. However, you soon realize that she reads through the text book herself, takes notes, and then reads those to the class. Very arrogant. Treats students like high schoolers (picks out late kid, tells kid not to put head on desk). Poor experience overall.
I really like Ms. Nasseem class. She is funny, has a great sense of humor, patient with people wanting attention and always answers questions. She seems to enjoy teaching. Her test are not very difficult and she gives a quiz right before the test so you know what to be ready for. She is straightforward and it can be threatening to some. Class is fu
She's from a lot of culture places i think. it was cool to hear the british accent and learn psych. it's all I expected and you can too.
Professor Nasseem seems like a stiff at first, but you gradually realize that she actually just has a quirky sense of humor. She's very smart, but she won't budge at all to help you if you are in a bind (no late hw, no tardies, et cetera) but other than that, definitely recommended for Psych 5.
She is honestly an awful teacher. I am a psych major and was so excited to take this class and didn't learn a thing from her or the book. She doesn't write the test herself, she gets them from data bases. Make sure you KNOW APA front to back for your paper because I just found out she marked me off for a lot of things that were right. I dreaded thi
Not a bad prof, but hard in the sense that absolutely no late work (even if you contract HIV), and.... yeah.
I've never worked so hard for a C. I believe there were 8 kids left in our class at the end of the semester...for a reason.
kind of snotty sometimes, but overall a really good teacher. She knows how to give lectures, goes a good pace, always repeats herself, and I learned A LOT. The trick is to take really good notes. I didn't buy the book,& only actually needed it for the final. All her tests are on her lectures, just dont miss,be late or rude cause she'll call u out.
Certainly more than 8 students remaining. If you walk into her class with a negative attitude, you will leave with one. Stay positive and focused, interact and participate - as with every class - what you put in is what you will get out!
CRAZY & inconsistent! If you are decently intelligent, this class is ridiculous. Taught slowly and if you dare to question what she says, it's shot down immediately. Calls tardiness/sleepiness out in front of the whole class, despite being tardy herself on occasion. Class is great for those who don't mix well with school, but for smart kids... NEG!
I have never worked so hard for just a B. This is my major and the first psych class I've ever hated. She mocks students constantly and does not test according to what she has "taught". I have never received less than a 96% in a psych class until this woman.
The worst teacher I have ever had!!!! I generally am not such a hateful person, but there are so many negative things I could say about her. I HATE HER! She is snotty, rude, immature, and has a real control problem! She needs to get a new job!
this professor is a hardcore feminist, has her master's degree but is NOT a good teacher. very arrogant, rude, belittles students when they ask q's. first and last time taking her course!!
Don't let her strict and intimidating appearance during the first week fool you. She is actually very funny and helpful. Her lectures are always clear, and usually interesting, and she allows a lot of student input and discussion. Reading and regular attendance are required though, especially if you want to ace her long (100-point)but FAIR tests.
this teacher scared my my first day. she is very intense and overwheming. if you are a shy type who doesn't like getting super involved in class don't take her. she forces awkward situations. my major is psych and i love the material but not the teacher. she made it not fun. lectures long and sometimes too quick. grades extremely rough on papers.
definitely buy the book because the tests are completely based on them, not on her lectures. expect to see random topics that she didn't teach on the tests too, it's a nice surprise! i wouldn't take her class again.
Lectures clearly cover all the material for the test. I found textbook unnecessary for 90% of the material, as lectures gave me the necessary understanding. Very helpful outside of class, but tends to expect you to seek her help then rather than in the classroom. Answers most questions after lecture rather than during. All multiple choice tests.
Definitely would NOT recommend this teacher. Very strict and calls people out during class for being a couple mins late...even though she showed up late also. Grades very hard on papers as if she were an English teacher. Lots of power points, and her lectures come straight out of the book.
Requires hard work, research and attentive learning. She is not namby-pamby in her teaching style. She doesn't baby students. She expects high standards. She will call you out if you are late or rude, so be polite, attentive, and have an open mind. Great sense of humor, GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS FOR WRITING HELP OR YOU WILL NOT SUCCED IN HER CLASS!
Attendance is important-she will call you out in class if you're late and drop you after 3 absences. There are 3 quizes and 3 Exams and 2 papers. There is no hw. Make sure you know APA format for the papers. Her exams are from lecture and book but straight forward. Ask questions.
Great instructor. If you want to succeed in her class attendance is key. Test were out of book and lecture. You must do your reading and attend class. Some test ?'s are in lecture, but not in the book, and visa/versa. Very helpful if you see her during office hours. You must work for your grade in this class, but she is fair!
Can be intimidating from the first day with attendance and what she expects but as the semester progresses all she really demands is respect & participation. She challenges you to be awake and confident in finding the answer. Attendance is key. She is really sweet, organized & by the end of the semester she's created a great learning environment.
Passionate on her subject. Expects perfect adherence to syllabus - no late work, etc. Most non-lecture questions are expected to be asked during office hours. Wants concept understanding, not name/date memorization as previous post suggests. Doesn't always give answers that fit the question - but tries to answer any legit lecture question.
Loves her subject but expects students to be at her knowledge level, impossible to get an A in this class. If you know APA style very through then you might get a good grade...very hard teacher wont recommend!
I liked her, she found ways to break up the bore of lecture classes, but I found the tests and quizzes pretty tough. She only graded on the tests, quizzes, and one research paper, so make sure to do them right!
Took the class during the summer. She's gets very frustrated if your talking to someone or doing something other than listening to her. She also has problems understanding questions for some reason. If you take notes during presentation than you'll do fine. The papers she wants students to write can be very unclear so ask her to clarify.
I think her class is easy. The research papers are easy. She is pretty flexible in grading them. The tests and quizes are not hard, just READ!!She is a bit rude at times, and sometimes she makes you get up and "share" jokes with your classmates.I found that dumb and irrelevant.Other than that she is ok, I guess.
Took this class over the Summer. She can be rude, and often times think she knows it all. She was not clear at all about the paper we had to write.
she is one of the worst teachers I've ever had.Rude, inconsiderate, and down right nasty. I transferred out of that class in a week.
If you can think for yourself, dont take this class. If you disagree with anything she says, she will completely belittle you and make you feel stupid.
OMG. This woman...words cannot describe. She is rude, she talks down to her students, she cuts you off mid thought, and then belittles you and basically makes you feel like a dumbass for even thinking. Its a her-way or the highway thing. She can be nice and understanding but dont let her memorize your name.
I do NOT recommend her at all. Everyone's comments on here are right on, she is rude and has a huge ego problem. Don't take her but if you have to...my only advice is READ and expect an interesting subject to be very bla bla bla!
This class was pretty easy. Just read the book and go to lecture, because her tests are derived from both. She can be rude, and if you don't agree with her don't bother arguing. One thing I liked was that she makes class fun occasionally before tests.
shes just a straight up beez who always has to be right and make you feel uncomfrotable. no one ever asked questions or anything in my class because they didnt want to be made a fool of by her..skip on her
Well to be honest this class was very disappointing. She can come off as being rude but sometimes you will see she isn't as awful as she tries to portray herself to be. She wonders why nobody raises their hands...duh! My only advice is to be respectful and read the book that is where the test comes from and just be for warned.
There is no screwing around in this class. Your phone goes off, you bring food. You miss an assignment, too bad. Nasseem's attitude is pretentious even as she tries to be "hip." She uses large superfluous words (if you've ever read the "Elements of Style", you'll be grinding your teeth everytime she says "utilize.")
This was my most dreaded class by the end of the semester. Teacher is uninspiring and at times infuriating. Entire class periods were spent by people talking about their behavioral problems. Notes/tests are directly from the book. No point to even attend this class!
Rude. Announces to class you're late, when she is late as well. Talks down to students and if you're late might as well not show up to class that day at all. HOWEVER, lets be honest. Tests taken directly from very helpful powerpoint lectures, rec. bringing laptop as there is a lot of info. Didn't use book once. Psych is my major & this was hard.
She is terrible!!!! Very rude and makes you feel stupid. If she doesn't like your question she just won't answer it. She treats her students like 2 year olds. She should of never been allowed to teach. I use to love Psych but after taking her class I can't say i feel the same anymore. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Honestly, I dropped out of her class because I just couldn't take it anymore. She is rude and demeaning, especially if you don't participate in her "joke sharing" activities. If you really want to learn about psychology DO NOT take her.
I adore this Professor. Yeah she's a bit abrasive if you're late or disrespectful, but she challenges you to be active and pay attention, exams and lecture are straightforward, and she's downright hilarious! I love her class and don't understand the negative ratings at all. Just be respectful and she won't shoot you down.
She comes off pretty intimidating at first, but i really like her teaching style!
When I first attended her class, it was clear that she has a "no nonsense" attitude. However, she is extremely thorough in covering material and the exams were a cakewalk if you used the provided study guide. The only thing that can be seen as difficult, was the essay that she assigned. Expect to do detailed research on your topic.
Horrible woman, worst teacher I've ever had!
Airheaded and oblivious. teaches class like a mad libs session, she is like a prism that all the rest of the idiocy in the room is focused through and intensified with. just look to other comments to see how egotistical she is, she's also very bad at her subject, surface level BS only. every one of her classes is a grinding, awkward, snorefest.
no comment
She is a horrible teacher, one of the worst I've had. She is oblivious to student needs. She is arrogant and hostile to differing opinions. She teaches material on the test the day of the test. She grades on format and not content of papers. She is a fuddy-duddy, muddleheaded, micromanager. Just say no to Nasseem.
I seriously wonder how the department can go to sleep at night knowing they are paying her.
The exams were easy and i was doing well in the class until she lost the score to my Personal Psychological Experience paper and wouldnt grade my final essay. She wouldn't respond to emails and wouldnt give me an incomplete. Apparently she has a sloppy grade book. to say the least she is rude and the worst teacher i have ever had.
AVOID! She is hands down the worst professor I've EVER had. I love psych, but I disliked her so much, I dropped the class to get away from her. She goes off in tangents, is rude & arrogant, & ends every sentence w "gotcha?". She expects a 5pg paper w little explanation of what is required. Multiple choice tests are the only upside of the class.
Boring, makes me not want to go to class. Doesn't answer questions clearly. Not helpful when asked for info on the research papers. no homework was a plus
She is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. ALL of these comments are right on... She's rude, arrogant and it seems as if she has no desire for her students to succeed. I ended up dropping her class halfway through the semester...PASS ON THIS TEACHER!
Ms. Nasseem is a very interesting teacher, her class is hard but if you meet her during office hours she explains everything.
I have Nasseem for psych 5 and the number of negative reviews surprises me because she is a very kind professor. She is very formal and her lectures are easy to follow. Reading the book reinforces the material, which is easier when studying for her tests. Also make sure to turn your cell phone off unless you want to bring food for the class.
DONT DO IT! I have never struggled so much to stay awake in a class before I took her class. The only thing that kept me awake was tallying how many times she said "gotcha" in one class period. Her lectures are torturous and she is very rude. Never answers your questions and doesn't give enough info about her research paper. Very hard class.

Ms. Nasseem's lectures are very clear and her tests are easy if you pay attention and do the study guides. She is a great teacher, just very serious about teaching.
The class is relatively easy, as long as you show up and take notes you'll do great. There's a study guide for each test and they are really helpful. There's a test every two weeks and two papers, but there is no homework, which I preferred.
different from other professors. For example, I attended every class did all my homework but did'nt do so well on exams. She was not willing to give any extra help or out of her way at all to help me succeed like other instructors!
Great teacher! She expects you to be an adult in her class and prepares you for university level classes (so don't whine about her not tolerating tardyness or ringing phones). Her class is based on research and fact. If you can't handle her, you probably are not ready for college. She isn't going to baby you or hold your hand through the class but she will teach you alot! She is always willing to help you with anything you have questions about and she hands back assignments in a timely manner.
Nasseem is great. She is unlike any professor I have ever had. She really grabs my attention every class period, all period. She dresses very nice and professionally. Her presence is bold. Like others have said, she does NOT tolerate any rudeness, disruptions, etc. Basically, if you are what a college student should be, then you are all good. :]
During the first day she acted like she was british? Not sure if it was to make her sound more intelligent? after the first day spoke like a normal american. She acted like she knew everything but i asked her a simple question and she dident know it. She tested us on the evolution of a cat compared to a human which has nothing to do with Psych?
Mostly biological based. If you know you need a someone approachable and someone you can feel comfortable asking questions with DON'T TAKE HER!but if you can follow logical thinking and are capable of figuring stuff out on your own, its probably a good match.
I learned a lot in this class. She had great lectures and was very clear with things, in fact she gives you the most specific and easy to follow guidelines for her research paper. She is very professional. It seemed that most people who didn't like her were too immature to be in college. Highly recommend taking her.
Her examples make the terms relate to real life experiences so one sees how real these terms exist as they are present in life. Her lectures are good, as the slides she shows don't contain paragraphs of words and are condensed down to enable easy copying into notes. No problem was seen here, just be open minded with the content, people and class.
The comment right below mine is about Psych 1A because I had the same class. She isn't a horrible inctructor or anything. Just go to class prepared for some information and have your attention there with you because the multiple choice questions on tests call for you to eliminate the wrong answers.
Ms. Nasseem is an excellent professor. She expects a lot from you which made me push myself. Basically all you need to do is attend class, read the book and be willing to discuss. Her enthusiasm in the subject keeps you awaked and excited. Totally enjoyed her class. =0)
I took her and it was going good up until the research paper was due. I worked hard and finished it but ended up in the hospital from a car accident and because i didn't take the time out to email her while i was in the hospital she would not let me turn it it which means i fail the class. She is just plain rude.
If you are a student with disabilities I do not recommend her. She will not be accommodating in any way. I find this especially frustrating as she is a Psychology teacher. Even with the support of my DRD counselor, Nasseem refused to accommodate my disabilities. Separate of these issues, I found her to be incorrect in many of her lectures.
I love this teacher. Her lectures really help you get involved with the material and help you understand the world around. Also, her assignments help you learn more about yourself. I have taken two classes with her and would love to take another one. READ the course syllabus. This is your key to passing the class!
She is an awesome instructor! She is extremely hard and expects a lot, but I felt like she did all that she can to help her students learn and succeed. If you make it to the end of a semester, I feel like she facilitates a feeling of family in the class that I have never seen in any other class.
She is very very friendly and makes the classroom very tight knit. I enjoyed that she cared about us and always asked us questions about what we were learning and what was useful. The tests follow the study guides but they arent easy. She has some quirks like her random britsh words and occasional smart remarks but to me it kept class interesting.
Ms. Nasseem is a great instructor. She is very polite and expects the best from her students. This class is not difficult if you take good notes and have a basic level of essay writing skills.
Ms. Nasseem is very respectful and expects the same in return. READ THE SYLLABUS! If you ask her anything that's already in there, she won't even bother answering your question. Tons of lecture, papers are super easy, tests are straight-forward and the information is interesting. Can get dull at times but she is extremely nice overall.
Ms. Nasseem is one of my favorite teachers at the JC. She demands a high level of respect, and can be intimidating at first. However, just get to know her, you will find that she is extremely helpful and genuinely cares about her students. Her lectures are very clear. If you pay attention and take good notes you will do well in the class.
The first few classes, I did not like this teacher at all. Stick with it! I feel she puts on a front to quickly weed out the bad apples. This is truly an enjoyable class!! Her assignments are meaningful and easy to complete. USE YOUR SYLABUS! It gives you EVERYTHING you need to get an A! Great teacher, lots of fun. I'll miss this class!
This is a tough teacher but she relates the material so well to your own life that it is hard not to comprehend what she is trying to teach you. Not the best teacher if you just want to get through an elective but if psych is your major, you couldn't ask for a better professor.
This class changed my life! Professor relates material extremely well with your own personal life. Class is like therapy. Love this professor!
Very interesting class. Instructor is very good at making the subject interesting yet sensitive to the subject matter. She is very clear and concise to her expectations of her students.
Prof Naseem is super funny. She presents everything you need to know, loves to hear student opinions, and is very dynamic. If you're shy though, this isn't the class for you, because she's all about discussion and getting to know eachother. She can also be a bit standoffish to people who don't share her opinion, but overall, a good and easy class.
Prof. Nasseem is a nice person, as long as you agree with her most of the time. There were a few class conversations she cut people off because they didn't share her opinion. Relied a lot on the book and not so much on lecture. Tests were alright. First 2 didn't match her study guides. Essays were simple. Be vocal & she'll notice you more.
The subject was interesting but she never really expanded beyond textbook. The class turned to therapy sessions at times which was annoying. tests are hard if you don't at least skim the book. She is very stylish and has a clever accent though!
I did not like her she has to much imformation that you dont need to know do not take a class with this women you will regert it trust me i give her a F F --
First day of school she told us not to view the course as a psychology class but a health class. then had us pair up with partners who had matching thumbs. didn't even mention the textbook and most of her curriculum was made up of ten minutes searching for semi relevant youtube videos, group therapy and patronizing the students for their input.
Narmeen Nasseem is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is extremely frustrating, because she runs her class off of powerpoint, simply waiting for the class to copy down the slides, which I could do at home! Her assignments are very poorly defined, and she will angrily tell you to reread them, even whn they contradict themselves. Avoid her class.
She is very intimidating. She has interesting opinions that I respect but don't agree with. A lot of students seem to like her, and she seems to like her students but I would not take her again.
One of the most amazing teachers I have had. She really makes an effort to get you to really understand her lectures. It's super easy if you go to class and pay attention to her lectures. Her tests may be a little harder, it's 100 questions multiple choice. But I loved the class and I also loved the instructor.
I really liked this course. Ms. Nasseem is very particular about formatting of assignments, if you follow directions and read your textbook you will recieve a good grade. Multiple choice quizzes for each chapter and mult. choice exam for every three chapters, three short papers. She is fairly skilled at using Moodle and was quick with questions.
Do all the essays she assigns and do well on the tests and you're golden. Her exams are hard so make sure to listen in class. There are study guides online to prepare for the test, but half of the material isn't even on the test! She's nice and very picky about how you format all your essays. She treats students like high schoolers though.
Very demanding teacher and expects a lot from you. Doesn't let anything slide.
Nasseem is one of the best teacher I have ever had. Having been at the JC a couple years, she is one that stands out the most. Absolutely loves what she does and knows her facts. Textbooks are easy reads (but I hardly read and got an A), and assignments are easy if guidelines are followed-take her class! (any psych class-I took 2 with her: 1A & 5)
I learned so much in this course. Nasseem is one of the best teachers in the JC. She makes psychology very interesting, enough for me to chose psych as my major. Took three classes with her 1A, 4, & 5. I highly recommend her.
She is a cool person, just not as a teacher. Her lectures are interesting but, her exams are really hard. 100 long questions per exam and there is information on the exams that she does not even go over in class. Not recommended to take her class.
Professor Nasseem is a wonderful woman. She is amazing to speak to outside of class, full of knowledge and compassion. Her course however, was entirely confusing and it was literally one of those classes where nothing that you read is on the exams. It was very frustrating. She is pretty slow on getting back to e-mails also.
I took her my first semester at the JC on a friends recommendation and wow will i never take her again. I did fine on everything tests, essays and the only reason i got a D in the class was because of one essay due after a break. she puts so much weight on single assignments that if you miss one its game over. she only tests on the book.
This professor was more than confusing. She changed her curriculum a few times and the tests did not match the book. It was a waste of time.I think she was even confused.I will never take a course of hers again.
I LOVED this teacher!! she is difficult yes, and does not put up with excuses. You have to work hard in her class but overall I felt like she was very clear and helpful. I learned a lot from her class and I really liked her. Her exams are difficult but as long as you study her slides and read the chapter you should do fine. A+
This class was not at all what I was hoping for. While she clearly loves teaching, I felt that she enjoyed the attention and stage (we were in the auditorium)rather than actually making an impact on students. She is not always fair with behavioral standards among students and can be disrespectful at times.
Her class is pretty easy for the most part, but you have to participate and do all assignments, there were a lot of papers to write about yourself. But overall the class was fun and she was very clear on what was needed from you!
Excellent teacher. Do your assignments.
Nasseem is a great teacher. She know what she's talking about and makes everything interesting! Frequently engages with student and genuinely cares about us, i.e. asking us about our weekends, complimenting haircutsnew styles, etc. Only complaint was that all of the work, is online, as she also teaches online. Tests and quizzes are open book.
In her PSYCH 4 class, I found her class rather easy. Yet, her discussion assigmentsessays, you have to write about your own personal life, rather than the subject of Child & Adolescent Psychology. Be prepared. Take each quiz four times, that way your exams are easier.
She teaches three classes, PSYCH 1A, 4, and 5. I have taken her 4 and 5. In PSYCH 5, like PSYCH 4, I recommend you take each quiz four-five times, to ensure you pass the Exams. However, the papers required for the class, you need to be in-depth with this class. Be prepared. She is a good teacher.
Loved Ms. Nasseem and her class! She is so sweet and thoughtful, she will make you feel great on your worst days! All forums, quizzes and tests are online open book but sometimes can be tough, as long as you have internet access and the book you will be fine! Take this class!!!!!
This was the hardest online class I have taken. Basically a "paper" due every single Friday and 6 quizzes and 6 exams throughout the semester. She is an easy grader on the papers but is very specific on what she wants. Tests are difficult at times! She gives extra credit in a few ways which helps! Easy but you have to work for the A. It's doable!
I took her Psych 4 class online and she was just alright. I received As on all my papers and Bs on all my quizzes but ended up with a C in the class because the moodle was not clear. Certain things would spontaneously change the date on you and I missed a paper and a test because of this...
Narmeen does not teach during lecture. Attendance is required but usually she spends at least 50% of class time talking about nothing. The other 50% is spent going over 2 or 3 slides with very little information. You have to read the book, online quizzes and tests are difficult, and Nasseem is no help.
It is extremely difficult to pass without having the online PDF version where you can search up key phrases that are necessary to pass the quizzes and exams. The quizzes and exams are all online. The questions are very irrelevant to her lecture and are not helpful to learning the material. rest of the grade was based off of class forums. DON'T TAKE
Mediocre teacher, she talks about herself or meaningless, un relevant topics, and from what I hear she's been at SRJC for years... What a waste.
Took this class online over the summer and it was doable, but not the best. The weekly forum is extremely tedious and usually uninteresting, the weekly quizzes and exams definitely require you to have an online version of the book. I never looked at the online powerpoints for the course because they were irrelevant. Not the best class I've taken.
Invest your time and energy in another psych class with a better professor, narmeen does not deliver. I agree with the poor rated comments below of her class.
I've never taken an online class. I was nervous all semester because I took a summer course. It's a lot of work. Surprisingly I passed with a B. The course material itself was worth learning!
Super easy teacher and really interesting subjects that we covered. I took her online class during the summer and it was clear and easy what she wanted from you. However, practice tests and tests seemed to have completely different subjects on them and sometimes the test would have questions that weren't addressed in the book.
Nasseem is a high maintenance teacher. She's pretty clear about everything, but very nitpicky and vocal about it. Her online classes and in-person classes are just as difficult.
First class taken with her out of two and it was hard to work with her on some of her assignments. Don't make no bones about it, because it was taken before the General Psychology class. Took this and another class prior to taking 1A. Both times received an A, but I busted my butt to do so. Would take a third or fourth of her classes if available.
Second class taken with her out of two and it was hard to work with her on some of her assignments. Don't make no bones about it, because it was taken before the General Psychology class. Took this and another class prior to taking 1A. Both times received an A, but I busted my butt to do so. Would take a third or fourth of her classes if available.
Took psych 4 online. Expect to read ti get a decent grade. assignments are easy and not very many. Was an easy A but I'm really interested in the subject. She's really helpful, her moodle site is easy to navigate and you can work ahead if you have time. I Look forward to taking more of her classes.
Does not offer anything of value in her lectures. She spends most of the class talking about herself, or some other boring nonsense and little time on actual material. Only knows what's in the book, doesn't know the answers to most questions. Reading the book is crucial. Very boring and extremely rude, worst professor I've had in my life so far.
Very Genuine and Knowledgable, but WILL call you out
Took her class a while back. I thought she would be a great teacher. She seemed fun and funny but, she is the toughest grader. I constantly asked her what I am doing wrong or what I could do better and she still gave me horrible grades. That made me pretty upset. I will never take her again.
I am rating this professor 4 years later. Looking back, I'd say this class COULD have been an EASY A.. I enjoyed her! I still see this professor in the hallway and say hello. She's awesome! She was always there for me when I needed help. When I took this class, there was a lot of group circle chats. Expect to speak to the whole class!
Loved her class !
She is an awesome teacher
Very strict. Tried to go to her during her office hours and she failed to show up. Rude to some students, not helpful or understanding.
She is a nice lady and a good teacher but she does not cover any of the material that is on her tests in her lectures. You have to read 4 chapters for each exam each of which is 40 pages. Open Note. You are able to retake the quizzes as many times as you want. I didn't read for the quizzes but read for the exams. I got a B because I forget a paper.
No extra credit or extended due dates. Heavy lectures but weren't always about the material. All assignments are all done online. It would have been easier if I signed up for an online class because I felt like that's what it was. She missed 3 weeks of class because of shingles but never had a sub and never went back over the material she missed.
I took Nasseem for Abnormal Psych. She was the best professor I've ever had. She is intelligent, well-spoken, and thoughtful. She is respectful and expects the same respect in return. Class lectures were important, not a class to miss. Also, a decent amount of reading. I wouldn't have passed the exams or quizzes without reading the material.
She gives NO room for missed assignments. I took an online test and it happened to be during a day where students sign up for classes so the sight was slow, and my test DIDN'T SAVE! I emailed her and left her a voice message stating what happened and still gave me a 0 with no questions! Not a fair grader, and terrible and replying to messages.
Very strict, absolutely no late work or extra credit. Textbook is required, you have to read one chapter a week and take a quiz on it (with unlimited attempts) and tests every few weeks. Every two weeks there is a discussion topic where you have to write a few paragraphs and respond to a classmate's response. Overall, pretty easy grader.
She is the worst teach I have had at the JC. She is very strict with no late work, no extra credit, and no make ups. She also will NOT respond to an email unless it followed b her guidelines. I took the class online I am passing but she is hard to a hold of if you have questions. I do not recommend taking her classes.
awesome professor! i took hr for psych 4 as well only wish i would have taken in person. Psych 5 was so awesoem especially with a teacher so devoted to her profession. Helps you understand theories and does group activities. I love her!
She's understanding and has a big heart. Explains the lecture well, does in class and online discussions. She reminds everyone that we are all normally abnormal. Her lectures a raw and she doesn't bite her tongue when speaking about controversial topics. Homework: lots to read, but doable, flexible with homework/quizzes due dates & times. Flexible!
This online class was interesting because of the material. But it could have been more engaging and have more online opportunities (like film for example). There was no research paper, no real midterm, and the final was just another exam like the others. She did not break the huge class into small groups so difficult to connect with other students.
Awesome instructor! I learned so much from her. Her class is the reason why I changed my major to psychology. I took her for Psych 1A, Child Psych, and Abnormal Psych. Loved all my classes. Highly recommend her!
I took this class online and thought it was great. You did have to read the textbook, but it was full of interesting information and I felt like I learned a lot. Quizzes were challenging, but doable. Clear grading criteria and easy grader. Solid choice for your next psych teacher.
I didn't have a good experience with this instructor. When I went to her with my accommodation letters, she told that I wouldn't be getting extra time on tests. She didn't provide a study guide for exams. You pretty much had to guess what you were being tested on. Pretty horrible!
I really enjoyed her class. I took her for PSYCH 5 and PSYCH 4 and she's just wonderful. Her exams aren't too difficult if you listen in class. Make sure to take notes! We learned a lot of interesting things. I really enjoyed the end of her class because she made the whole class have a discussion and give each other compliments.
The in-class portions are great. Her lectures can be a bit boring at times, but are usually interesting and engaging. However, the online portions are not handled well. The instructions are often incredibly wordy and complicated. The grading for the discussions is extremely harsh. Partial work is a zero, as is work that doesn't fit the format.
Honestly the worst professor I've ever had. Her instructions are extremely wordy and unclear, she makes tons of mistakes in her assignment instructions... and she assigned unethical assignments, forced us to disclose our mental health status in online class discussion etc. Don't take her! She shouldn't even be a professor. Didn't learn anything.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. I took her online class and she IS AWFUL. Her assignments are very wordy and unclear and she tests us on stuff that was never in the textbook or in any of the readings or powerpoints. AWFUL. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Nasseem is the worst prof Ive ever had. Her online quizzes and tests are impossible because her answers are wrong. Ive answered exactly what the textbook said, and got the question wrong. And she doesnt teach anything, the only info you get is from the textbook. Such a horrible teacher.
She is a bad professor. I hope SRJC looks into replacing her because she is the worst professor Ive ever had. She is very unclear and obviously doesnt know what she is talking about. Dont take her class if you can avoid it! I wish I could drop it but its too late.
I don't normally write reviews but Nasseem is such a horrible professor that I have to warn people. Her assignments are ridiculous, her instructions so wordy and "thorough" that they are impossible to follow. She marked me down for not having a part of the assignment that was CLEARLY right in front of her. I have never had a worse professor. AWFUL.
Nasseem is the worst. She is extremely unclear, marks people down for doing things that she TOLD them to do, and has such extensive instructions that they are difficult to follow and her assignments are pointless and excessive. I do NOT recommend her. Avoid at all costs.
All homework is online and the lectures do not offer any new information that is not in the book. Her online discussions seem arbitrary and her feedback is minimal, making it seem as though she doesn't even read the assignment. She is one of the only professors that teaches psych5, but choose someone else with more knowledge of the subject.
This class was very frustrating. Despite her pages and pages of wordy instructions, expectations are still not clear. She has high expectations for how we format and word our assignments, yet the instructions themselves are sometimes unreadable due to poor grammar & wordiness. Incredibly difficult to reach by email - in online class, took 10+ days.
All her assignments are online. It is really, really hard to keep track of what she wants you to do. There is so much information that it is not needed on the instructions.
I love her lectures, she cares about what is going on in our daily life. She asks a lot of questions in class and expects you to answer as you should as a student. Homework is simple, instructions are clear, and overall she's a very pleasant person. This class will make you think. Read the textbook and engage in lectures and you'll be fine.
She is very strict about no extra credit or late work but will arbitrarily take off points. Her instructions are incredibly wordy and hard to follow. She is almost impossible to reach for clarification. She will make you read the book cover to cover. Her prompts are weirdly personal and you share to the class. Do not take!
Very strict at first and for the first month you will be very overwhelmed but once you are in the swing of it you learn a lot. Very nice lady but can be tough.
Good person, bad professor. Take psych from someone else.
Great class! You really get the feeling that Ms Nasseem really cares about you as a student, it makes for a really fun learning environment.
I loved taking class with Prof. Nasseem. She was not a hard teacher at all. Her quizzes and tests were easy if you take good notes in class (i copied the board word for word) and study hard. She was always available during her scheduled office hours and i frequently went to them to ask questions. Nasseem truly cares about student success.
This class was not difficult. We mostly just followed her explain topics from a powerpoint and we took notes. I took good notes every class and reviewed them to study for the exams. The exams reflected the material taught in the classroom. I just studied my notes in order to do well in the class. The exams were a bug part of the total grade.
I loved taking this class with her! Honestly, the material was not that interesting to me but the way she talked about it with such enthusiasm kept me hooked. Tests and quizzes were easy. I could not ask for a better psychology professor than this one.
Narmeen was a clear cut professor. She had high expectations for us students and treated us all like adults. I like how she had fun with her lectures and made the class more enjoyable. The tests are a major part of the grade and are all pretty similar. They are all multiple choice.
I've taken a few classes with Mrs. Nasseem. She is a striking and strong woman, and I really enjoyed my Psych5 class with her that was in-person. She is a tough grader and gives no extra credit, so taking Psych4 online was harder because she gave little feedback. The content is valuable and she makes sure you know it well before exiting the class.
I took Psych 1A with Narmeen and I liked her class. She was pretty relaxed and made sure to actually teach us the subject instead of teaching to the test. Hopefully, my priority is high enough so I can register for her Psych 3 class next semester. She is such a great professor.
Avoid at all costs! She "does not work with students" and seems to try make things as difficult as possible. She will not help you in any way. I had her online and she doesn't even lecture, she just assigns videos and readings. She does not put any effort into actually teaching, which is too bad since I was excited for this class. Worst prof ever.
I'm taking this class online, and even during emergencies, this professor doesn't extend due dates. She doesn't abide by the DRD contract and is almost impossible to hear back from. If you email her/ send her a message, it usually takes her anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks before you hear back from her.
AVOID. she does not work with students & only grades "competed" work, so partial work doesn't mean anything. she only cares about her own emergencies and does not care about students. she extended assignments for the death of her dad this semester, but doesn't do it for students. she doesn't teach & assignments are pointless & unrelated.
This class wasnt as bad as I see the other ratings to be. Theres weekly quizzes on the assigned readings, 5 exams, and 4 essay discussions. Answers of the tests are in the book; pretty straightforward. Her discussions are a little confusing because she said no in text citations but then required 4 in text citations. No exceptions on late work.
I am just going off of the fact she didnt abide by my DRD requests that she is a horrible professor. I ended up dropping because she is mean spirited and unhelpful. I dont understand these good reviews, a good professor would abide by a DRD contract and its exceedingly rare when they dont (shes the only one who hasnt).
I would not recommend this teacher because her instructions for assignments are very long, wordy, and repetitive. They can be hard to understand. I took this class as an online class and the discussions are essay based. She doesnt interact in the discussions. And she will not work with you. She does not allow late assignments nor partial work.
This was the first college course I took and I enjoyed it. The class has a lot of discussions and does require certain word count usually, but never anything unrealistic. She doesn't do extra credit or do late work, so it is best to complete all assignment s on time. Instructions on some assignments can be wordy and confusing, but that is really it
