She's abrasive, not an easy professor, and has a clear disregard for how her students feel about her. If this bothers you, you need to get over it or you'll never get by in the real world. She's a decent professor, even if she doesn't kiss your arse.

she can be very difficult to get along with, especially if you are a male. This is frustrating because she has the potential to be really cool. She demands original thinking.

If she sees you don't care, you're in trouble. Make sure your skin is thick. Always makes for an interesting and informative class. One of the best Wofford has.

Great teacher, hard class. She may be mean, but you'll come out of that class as a better student than you went in if you can take the heat.

She's one of the few people I know that manages to be cold, cocky, hilarious, informative and helpful all at the same time. I've come to gather that I'm one of the few male students who enjoyed her classes and was able to appreciate her attitude in class.

Smart but scary!

Yes, Dr. Grenell is very hard but very witty and sarcastic. However, if not for her than I would not even begin to be able to write anything correctly. She taught me how to write and I will always appriciate her for taking time to help me to learn. She is the best professor and teacher that I have ever had a priveledge being taught under at any school. SHE ROCKS and her classes are always awesome. If you take Dr. Grinnell, you will emerge a damn good writer. She does not let you get away with ANYTHING in papers. Having a class with her caused my writing skills to greatly improve, and I salute her as one of the main reasons why I am a pretty decent writer these days. Take her at least once, even if just to improve your writing skills.

This professor is a goddess!

I took 2 classes with Dr. Grinnell, and I think she is awesome. She made you work hard for your grades, and showed no favoritism for Greeks/Athletes/Anyone really. I worked hard in that class and I was better for it. Just be prepared for class!

Very funny, even goofy, but she sure knows her stuff. Enthusiastic and she isn't prejudiced against anybody. I just love her class.

well, we were a terrible class, but she put up with us and told us stuff about college that i never knew about. if i get to come back next year, it will be because of her.

Love dr. grinnell. She is absolutely hilarious. I was nervous about taking her class prior to starting, but quickly fell in love with the topic because she is so interesting. Do not be intimidated about what others say, Natalie Grinnell is fabulous- I highly recommend her class. Oh yeah, and its not impossible- I got an A.

At the beggining you hate her, at the end you love her. She's a strong lady that will push your buttons or make you laugh, but in the end you will learn how to write. Perfect teacher for first year, second semester.

i had a really bad first semster in college but she was so nice and listened to me and helped me out. she and dr. wilson kept me in college basically. do not be afraid to go to her for help!!!!

This is the professor to take for Category A courses in the major. Seriously.

Although her sense of humor can be bristling at times, she's a good professor. More opinionated in discussion than most english professors-she'll tell you if she thinks you're wrong-but an interesting lecturer. Haven't had her for an upper level but her 201 class is easy;many small, simple assignments to boost your grade.Generous with paper grades.

I was nervous about taking Dr. Grinnell, but I loved the class. Intimidating, but a superb English professor. Grades papers firmly, but sets up meetings with you so she can tell you how to improve them. She gives extra credit opportunities and will call on you if you are quiet in class. Be prepared. You become a better writer by taking her class.

I was so nervous about this course, esp in summer, but she was so helpful and I spent way too much time panicing in her office, but she calmed me down. Go see her in her office if you can. Also, her office is really weird and interesting.

Very fun class! i though only English majors should take her but I was wrong. Most improtant--go to her office if you need help. She will help you one on one. Would definitely take her again.

I had heard negative comments from other students about this professor, so I came into the class with a bias; that disappeared very quickly. Dr. Grinnell is an amazing instructor who is really passionate about literature and is there to help you become a better writer. She is funny, but does not put up with foolishness.

Dr. Grinnell tells us not to tell people she's not as hard as her reputation, so her classes don't get too full, but she is really cool--tough!--but you learn so much. Go to meet with her in her office for help. She loans you her own books. Keep up, don't skip, and you will have so much fun!

This class had lots of tough books to read but she let the class talk about what was most important to us--and we had such a cool class! Papers were not as hard as I heard they would be and she loaned out her own books to help with research. Taking her again next semester!

loved this class! She is so funny and knows so much! Grading is only hard if you don't follow directions but take your paper to her ahead of time to talk about.

If you work hard on your papers and ask her for feedback in advance she may rip them apart with errors of all sorts, but in the end you will be happy you took the extra time to allow her to really help you. She makes you a better writer by commenting on your papers thoroughly and meeting with you. She will also amaze you with how much she cares.

Many students have complained about feeling shot down or embarrassed in class. Grinnell is very willing to accept new ideas, just not ones that have no textual support or are sexist, racist, or homophobic in nature. She wants her students to do really well, but will push you to work hard. She also brings in baked goods she makes herself!

This was a hard class to take because of all the covid problems but dr grinnell would call us at home to help us with problems and put up lots of links to help. it was not as much work as I thought it would be and I would take her again especially after the covid is over

i was not excited about the topic of this class but the readings were pretty interesting and grinnell is really funny. don't be racist in class though.

took her Star Trek interim class which was really much more fun and interesting then i though it would be. I dn't know if it will be offered again but I would take it.

Everything is hard right now but this class was much less tressful then I thought it would be. Dr. Grinnell let me research something kind of out of the box for arthurian lit and it was really good to be able to follow my own interests for once. Also she made us class tshirts when we asked.
