She was the best prof ever! She made the course interesting, she engages the class during case studies, explains them very well, very helpful and clear with instructions/requests and exam. Very fair at rating, if you have questions after class she will stay and talk to you, she makes course easy with her way of teaching it & marks the exam herself
Always willing to help a student. Class average has always been in the 60's according to her. Very approchable. Some lectures can be a little choppy and she sometimes looses her train of thought easily, this gets annoying. I recommend this intro course to get a general grasp on the business world if you're not too knowledgeable about it.
Ms. Guriel is an extremely helpful professor. Not only is she interested her students? performance, but she also wants students to understand current business affairs. Although the tests require extensive composition, Ms. Guriel continually helps students to develop an apt writing style. I highly recommend Ms. Guriel as a professor for ADMS 1000.
She is a really good professor, she teaches you really well. The content of the class will be helpful in later business classes as well so i recommend you hang on to the textbooks as it provides some really good examples (and is not as boring as some of the other ones). If you attend lectures + take notes and read the book you can a very good mark.
Extremely nice. Very willing to help out. Wants to give good marks.
AMAZING. Recommended for everyone.
The best professor I have had until date in York. She's amazing.
awesome prof, lectures are very very clear and interesting, exams are easy and markings are fair
awesome prof
She's a good prof. Very helpful and kind. She basically reads from the book though. She takes her time when you ask for help. She also creates class discussions enough to make it interesting.
I really can't relate to the other comments posted on this website about Guriel. I think it might have been because I took the course online and she was terrible at communicating that way. So while she might be great if you're taking her in class, she's a bad teacher when it comes to distance education. Rarely responds to emails.
So glad I took the course online. The professor gave great feedback.
This professor was amazing. I would definately recommend her.
I enjoyed taking the course online and feel I learned a lot from the course. The course requires completion of summaries posted online at times I found the Professor's response to summaries as a 'backhanded slap', perhaps others would consider it constructive criticism. There is a new text book which is needed for case studies and mid-term essay.
Online course so there's no interaction but even online you can tell she's not the best prof. Extremely slow at marking, barely responds to email, doesn't give much feedback. Course itself is easy - textbook is only mandatory for the weekly questions, slides are enough to get a B. Weekly Q take about 30 mins to answer, 20 pages per chapter to read.
easy course, the weekly summaries were way to long.. midterm assignment required critical thinking and T.As marked strictly... exam was easy, just a few chapters to memorize.. easy A, good course
Course structure and guidelines were easy to follow; marking was fair; enjoyed the instructor's approach and she provided good feedback and ongoing communication with the class.
Good professor. Hope she teaches other courses.
Natalie is a great instructor. I was a little nervous at first to take her course but she is super helpful and a great teacher. She wants her students to do well and gives helpful tips and outlines whenever needed. I really enjoyed taking this class with her.
Terrible teacher. Non-responsive, does not provide good feedback and is overall a teacher who does not care about her students. Horrendous experience with this prof and no support whatsoever.
I'm an ECON major and thought it would be more theory related, but it's purely content (no matter what admin tells you). Memorizing like 25 lists and overall dry content. The worst part was that the midterm assignment was bellcurved to a T, so it's pretty hard to get an A. Don't bother with this. She gives little feedback and honestly I felt lost.
Sorry to say was one of my worst experiences with a professor, little to no feedback and direction on how to attain good grades especially when it came to the midterm assignment and final exam. hardly responded to emails or responded far too late. DO NOT TAKE THIS ADMS 10001010 ONLINE wher. Distance education is definitely not her thing.
I took the ADMS online course and I found it easy to complete (weekly postings, 2 quizzes, term paper and exam). If you know how to manage your time and other courses you'll do well. The required course book can be found online. Her response time for emails is kinda bad. Overall good course
Powerpointslectures were clear and to the point. Never spoke to her or emailed her so I don't really know her. Midterm guidelines were fairly clear, feedback was not. Not really sure what we wanted, seems to be a bit of a hard marker. Exam was pretty easy. Don't take the class if you don't need to, content is dry and boring.
Absolutely one of the worst prof's. I took this course online and she did not provide any online lectures like you are supposed to. She does not reply to emails in a timely manner and replied to the entire classes questions about the final the night before. Gives poor feedback and it is clear she does not care about her students. Terrible.
Overall, a great class. The strike at York affected a lot of courses, so I think this prof did ok overall.
An amazing course. I would recommend this professor again.
Terrible professor, doesn't care about her students. Not sure why she gets so many sections to teach when there are other professors who deserve them more than her.
She's a really sweet prof. I took ADMS 1000 with her, and she's an easy marker. Her lectures are very clear and she explains everything in detail. She is very understanding and helpful too. Easy A. You don't even have to show up to classes. She posts all her notes online, and sample exam questions. :) P.S: she can get a bit boring at times
AVOID THIS PROF ESPECIALLY IF THE COURSE IS ONLINE!
Feedback is not personalized its a generic posting. No room for critical thinking. In order to get good marks you need to regurgitate the material just the way she spits it out. Feedback is very slow. AVOID AT ALL COST especially online course.
Took course online & had no problems w/ Natalie. Take-home essay 4 midterm; half MC & short answer questions 4 final. Only worked required other than MT & final is 5 online postings which she gives great feedback to. Quick response time 2 questions & seems 2 genuinely care. Makes course content easy 2 understand. Would take a course w/ her again!
The online course now includes audio lectures which are really help. Gives great feed back. Gives opportunities to earn bonus marks and very helpful.
Grading criteria is unclear. Marks are delayed in coming back. Textbook is incredibly dry and redundant. Takes forever to respond to emails. I'm a straight A student but this course was painful.
Not sure why she teaches an online course when that is where a professor's helpfulness is critical. She might be better in person but do not take an online course with her unless you want to a ship lost at sea.
She's a good prof, and the class isn't hard but I think it is ridiculous to have an exam worth 60% especially when there are barely any questions on it. She'll reply to emails eventually, and she does offer extra credit if you ask. As a prof I do recommend her. I took it online in the summer and only used the textbook, went into the exam with an A.
Natalie did a great job with the course. She was accessible and her feedback was clear and concise. She gave thorough answers on how to provide the answers to the discussion forum questions. The mid term assignment instructions were clear. The final exam, albiet very heaviliy weighted at 60% was fair and provided a good review of material.
Poor prof, slow response, terrible format, basically you need to memorize the text book whick is at best mediocre. If she wants this course to be effective with the current format either make the course a paper course or make the exam open book so that one can actually effective learn the content
Her lectures are boring and she breaths into the microphone (online lectures). Feedback and expectations are unclear. She gave us our midterms results just TWO weeks before the end of the term. No learning, just memorizing. Positive things: She gave some study tips before the exam. Also before the midterm, but those tips were not useful
Overall, I enjoyed the online format and the professor was quite good. The midterm assignment feedback was good and very fair. I would take another course with this professor.
Great professor. Very fair, gives good feedback and provides study tips!
A good course. Professor created a good format online. Not too intensive.
Not credible and doesn't know what she's teaching. 3250 is an intro to accounting class and she basically doesn't know her material or the courses well enough to teach. you can ask her questions but be prepared to get a vague answer or no answer at all. lecture are quite boring and dry
Overall, a good health management class. Lots of cases and practical application.
It took over a week to get any sort of response to emails, it took over a month to get midterm marks back and then another week after that to access feedback. The "lectures" were powerpoints taken directly from the textbook and there were only recordings for the first 4. It just felt like we were in the dark the entire time... Really disappointing.
Gave little to no course announcements, questions took weeks to get replies and after the first few sessions many of the PowerPoints no longer had recordings. I took the online section of this course.
Great prof. You must read before/after class. It works better for me if I go to her class then read and do exercise. She is easy to contact if you have any questions. I am not good with numbers but she explains it well. If you have questions just ask her during class. There is no stupid question. Its not an easy class, need to put effort to it
The exam is 60% that is all I have to say.
Absolutely brutal professor. Took her online class and she made little to no course announcements, gave very vague answers that threw me off for the midterm which was worth 30% by the way, and she also didn't answer questions that were asked four days before the Monday due date until a half hour before the hand in window closed. Do not recommend.
Each week you posted a response to a question which was very time consuming (and only worth 10%). The midterm was 30% and she gave very little instruction. The final was 60%, which was a lot but it wasn't overly hard. As a prof tho she wasn't very present online. The online lectures are unnecessary, just read the powerpoint and you'll be fine.
LOVED her. She's the reason my GPA is amazing right now. Most of her tests are super easy/take home tests. Gives many chances for you to raise your mark and is really caring and understanding. Loves hearing feedback from students on what to improve and how you felt about the course material. Sweetest lady ever, kill to have her again.
One of the easiest courses I've taken at York. Natalie is a great prof and always wants to help her students as much as she can. I would highly recommend this course and professor!
THE easiest course I have ever taken at YorkU. There's nothing special to it: listen to lecture recordings, do well in the course. Weekly assignments are kind of boring, and she seldom ever responds on email. The course itself is very boring, but a bird course nonetheless. If you're looking for an easy A+ with minimal effort, take this course!
If you want to take a bird course, this is definitely it. I did fairly well for such minimal effort. She's very caring. During this pandemic, she tried her very best to help us stay positive such as providing a fair final. To do well in her tests in general, just go over her slides and practice case examples, it's really that simple!
Got a B+ am annoyed, as I thought I'd get an A, likely got the mark because I forgot to hand in a reflection or two. The course is straightforward, and the material is easy if a bit tedious. Has weekly reflections we need to complete, even though they aren't worth much. Study textbook, powerpoints and review package and you'll do great
The criteria are so unclear and her lecture is just non-sense since she just read the whole thing on the slides. Confusing course after all. The exam is ridiculous long which required you to read and analyze and cite for a short period of time.
Professor Guriel always provided great explanations of work and knows the content very well. She is easy going and always responded to emails in a timely manner. I would definitely take her again!
Hands down, amongst the best professors you will have at York University. This professor genuinely cares about her students. She is always active on email and answers ANY questions students would have through there. I took this course online but I am certain that this professor is just as helpful in in person learning.
Natalie was so nice! I was always able to contact with her through email, and she replied very fast with clear explanation. Although you could be overwhelmed by the exams since very specific concepts and examples are required, it 's not a big deal if you study key points and how to apply them for the case on exams. I do recommend taking her class!!
Natalie Guriel is one of the best professors since she tried to care and help me sincerely through email. She replied all questions with very useful and helpful clarification timely. Also, she hosted a Zoom meeting to help us to prepare the exam although it was fully online course! How sweet she is to support us!! I would LOVE to take her again!!!
She is one of the most helpful, understanding & accommodating professors I have ever had. Always willing to help & goes out of her way to ensure that students have all the resources that are needed. During the pandemic, this course was online but she was constantly emailing us & keeping us engaged. Would highly recommend taking the course with her.
Professor Guriel is the most understanding and helpful prof I've had so far. This year has been tough due to the Covid-19 pandemic but she is so sweet, she sends us emails weekly to share positivity and boost our morale. She explains the concept clearly and provides extra notes. Quizzes and midterms are long but straightforward.
Prof Guriel is very supportive and accommodating. She explains course materials very well using practical examples so that it make difficult subjects easy to understand. She gives clear instruction for the exam that give opportunity to have a good grade. Her invaluable support helped me get admission in a MA program. Take any course taught by her.
seen this course on bird course for york university. Totally wrong. You do so much readings ( like a lot), you have to also pay for a textbook only used for a semester ridiculous. This aint no bird course at all. YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT. worse elective
A great prof! She's awesome.
Took this class last Fall. Overall, really liked how this professor gets back to you right away. She discusses cases very thoroughly.
One of the best profs I had as a 1st year, she is fast on responding to emails, her lecture slides have notes which are very helpful while studying and writing the exam, she is always available during the test, gives extra cases and solution for practice but which helped me alot.
Guriel grades very tough. I usually get 80s-90s on written assignments but with her, I would be happy when I got 70. She believes that a 60 is a good grade so trying to get a bump is hard, although it worked once for me. The class is not interesting but the material is pretty easy, just hard to get high grades with her. I would select another prof.
Professor Guriel really cares about her students and is clear in what she expects throughout the course.
Honestly one of the best profs I have had, she is underrated. Easy A with her but get ready to read and practice a lot of case questions and write the answers in detail. Time management is really important when it comes to midterm and final exam as there will be less time and alot of content to type.
The slides are taken straight from the textbook and the recorded lectures are just reading off the slides/textbook. She grades very tough because she wants the information you write to be relayed in the way SHE explained it. When she gives feedback for assignments she claims it's detailed but its often very vague and it doesn't help much.
She was not clear and made a class mistake with grading causing us all to get low marks. When she found out she did not want to fix it, she tried to scare us stating that if she remarked it we would get a lower mark. Super funfair... To much reading, she thinks 60 is a good mark. She's nice but I would definitely not take this course again.
Professor provides misleading instructions and artificially lowers grade when students follow it (Mini Case), she also offers instructions on evaluations that she did not even make often causing students to lose marks due to her stupidity, take this course with this prof & you will be gambling your grade on whatever she thinks you deserve...
Enjoyed all the classes. The professor was very accessible and was helpful in doing lots of practice cases.
Natalie was a very nice professor. Her lectures were great and she explains topics well. She provided lots of help with midterm and exam prep by going over cases in class and made sure we understood. I rated a 4/5 because she picks on people in class and that gives me anxiety, otherwise, she would be a 5.
A genuine professor who cares for her students. She used lots of examples in class which helped me a lot. I also liked the thorough exam reviews.
Enjoyed all of her lectures. She is a really genuine professor who cares for her students.
I really liked Prof. Guriel. I took her online class and her lectures are all prerecorded and you watch them at your own pace. The content itself is mostly common sense but Prof. Guriel does a great job of explaining everything. She seems like a really nice person and really wants her students to do well.
There was weekly online quizzes, unlimited attempts, Free 10 percent of mark. For mini case, just make sure to get take down her examples in class and you should do fine. For exam, mid-term and final, It was not too hard. TAs took off some marks I think I should have got, went to prof and she gave them. Great Prof.
No major complaints, she is kind and helpful. The pre-recorded lectures were pretty monotone. After writing the mini case and midterm I realized that many key details on the assignment were missing from the lecture videos that were only in the textbook. For the rest of the semester I focused more on the textbook chapters and did much better.
Professor is an easy-going prof. she teaches well and does practice cases during class.
Professor is a tough marker for a first year course. Expects students to write at thesis level for mini cases. Everyone got a C+ for mini cases because of her hard marking. I would not take this class again. Waste of money. Because of her class, my straight A GPA will be affected.
I find it hilarious that this professor has the audacity to grade people on mini-cases she authored. These are so poorly written with arbitrary jumps into subjects from paragraph to paragraph. She's also made the textbook, which she co-authored, mandatory. It's a nothing burger that costs $100+ and she will ask questions from it on the exam.
As a third year eng student i thought this would have been bird course. She expects more out of us than any eng prof did in my first year. She's a tough grader, messy and confusing eclass, expects us to write PHD level papers in a time frame of 2.5 hours. Do not recommend
The professor is caring and she provides detailed feedback on assignments and exams. I would take this professor again.
Tests are majority of grade, decent grader, would take her again.
Grading was whack for an introduction course
Don't expect to get over a 70% in this course. Crazy how an introduction course has an average of 63-68% for the final exam...something needs to change. It's not the students, it's the teaching/marking.
sorry wouldn't recommend... although she was helpful and very receptive to student's questions, she always emphasized how its very hard to get A's and B's in the course and said that class averages are usually in the 60s. I retook the course hoping to raise my mark because I thought the online section would be easier but I was sooo wrong!!
I enjoyed the ADMS 1000D online course a lot. The professor gave some great tips. And the recorded Zoom classes helped me balance my school work while working full-time over the summer.
Prof wasn't too bad. She's very understanding, and always answered emails. She also gave me an extra mark when I asked her to regrade. The problem is her lectures are a genuine snooze-fest. This course is useless. You have to memorize everything in order to do okay on the exam. They also force you to buy a textbook, which they get compensation from
