Horrible. She doesn't know what she is doing. She has been saying she would post grades "soon" and it's almost the end of the quarter, no grades are posted. Her homework? Absolutely pointless. It's not connecting to our final project at all. Don't take her class. I'm more than frustrated with this class.
Take this class if you like to guess at what your homework is, don't care what your grade may be, and find pleasure in wasting your time. The plus side? I paid a whole lot of money for a "required" book that was brought up once.
I honestly wish she was on this rate my professor before i registered for the class, then i wouldn't have to have the worst quarter. Simply waste of money and time. I strongly recommend not to take her class.
This was insane. What's the homework? Who knows. When is this due? Either tomorrow, or next week. Maybe never. Ask a question? Get an answer that has nothing to do with the question. What goes on the project? Oh, you know, whatever you want. She's sweet, but must have ADD.
Nice person but her class is so disorganized. Due dates for assignments were confusing and a lot of them didn't seem to relate to our final project. Paid $70 for a so-called mandatory book that was only used once or twice in class. With that said, she's a pretty fair grader. I've had harder English teachers. But overall I don't recommend her class.
She is really smart but unorganized. She pushed back almost every due date but then wouldn't hand back papers in time for them to be useful. The textbook was a joke.
Not bad, couple essays tops. Weekly blog, however, not very interesting. Does a lot of weird exercises in class, not very interesting and VERY repetitive. I've heard horror stories from other eng101 classes, and happy to say that mine did not live up to the hype.
Great Teacher! She is very fair in every way. The instructions for projects are clear and the homework wasnt overwhelming. Her excitement toward the subject makes the class fun.
Shes really nice and excited about English, but disorganized as well. She was never really clear about due dates and when she wanted to talk to me about my essay, which she does with everyone, she ended up talking to me over an hour later than scheduled. We did lots of pointless "check in" journal writes in class.
Awesome class overall. Maybe 2-4 essays and at least 4 hw assignments. Very easy and she is very easy going. Essay were soooo easy. Just keep up online. Really passionate and determined to be helpful. Easy A for sure. Just actually try on your essays. Class out of 100 points so do all the work. Take this class!
IDK why Natalie has a 2.4 overall rating. English wasnt my best subject and I didn't like it much, after taking this class I became a stronger writer. Overall we wrote 2 essays, small project, flash portfolio and blog entries every week. Natalie is very helpful, she has office hrs and she stays afer class for students as well. She clear and fun!
She is nice and wants you to do well. I learned to bridge a huge writing gap- formal writing standards. It is true she is exremely scattered. If you made an effort to meet with her to be ok. I earned an A. I was paranoid until the end bc nothing was clear. Deadlines were always changed. ALWAYS. Too stressful for what it was and deal w/angry class.
I took Engl101 with her & I do not recommend her, especially if you're taking other classes at the same time. She is smart, but SHE SHOULDN'T BE TEACHING; horribly disorganized, pushed out every deadline, instructions were confusing. She showed a gross disregard for my time by saying to check for her online comments that she'd never end up posting.
Very disorganized teacher, pushed back almost every due date and would not do the things she promised to do. For example, would not comment on our work until we have already turned it in! Overall pretty easy, three essays to do.
I like this class and the teacher. I am thinking to take another class with her. She is late on giving feedback on your work but overall I feel I learned how to be a better writer and how to generate ideas for essays. She is pretty easy going and I like that. Again, I liked the class and the teacher and I learned from her.
Extremely disorganized. Assignment explanations are not clear. She's super sweet but too confusing. I don't recommend her class.
She's very nice but I ended up hating her class. Her instructions were very unclear and made the class difficult. Half the time I had very little idea what she wanted me to do. Often is slow to post grades/feedback and even assignments.
COMPLETELY DISORGANIZED. Assignments always returned late. I didn't get a single assignment grade for the entire class until 4 hours before final grades were due for transcripts. She's super nice and grades easy but it was the most stressful classes I've ever taken, and not all that relevant. Too much group work. Book was useless. DO NOT recommend.
She is the best instructor ever, helped me so much. I would take her again if i had to. She wants you to succeed.
She's so sweet and she really does care about each student and their writing. I would recommend her to anyone. She also very understanding and she will take the time and effort to help you unlike many teachers.
She is very nice and sweet, however, she doesn't know what she wants in an essay. Plus she gives you papers back at the end of the quarter, having almost no time to make corrections in your next paper. Very disorganized..
Class is always interesting, instructions are clear and thorough. Best class i've ever had at BC
Just do the work and it is an easy A. She is very sweet and wants to see her students do well.
Natalie is very sweet, and she genuinely cares about her student's success. She is very clear, helpful and always finds time to be available to her students. I am usually z very shy person, the one that would sit at the very back in the very corner. She always made sure I participated in class and that I was doing okay with the Material.
Natalie is a intellectual teacher and you can learn a lot from this class if you put in the work. The only things I didn't like much about the class is group work but that is something else. Other than that Natalie is very helpful and will be there to help if needed.
Very nice teacher but extremely disorganized and very unclear about assignments.
The best instructor, she was very helpful and understanding.
Too much homework. evaluate too late.
Natalie was very late at grading essays. She is VERY BAD at getting assignments back to people on time. She didn't even get us our first draft back before we had to turn in the final. How does one make revisions when you don't know what the teacher thinks you need to change.
She's one of the most dedicated professor in campus. I've loved how understanding she was. She has changed since then, so she does give us feedback directly in two to three days the least, keep in mind she has four other classes so that's actually impressive. I loved her class very much, I urge you to take it!
Awesome teacher!
Wonderful professor that really cares about her students! She is extremely understanding and very approachable.
She was by far my favorite teacher for this quarter and really got me engaged. She was super flexible with assignments and really understanding. I would highly recommend her. I took a hybrid class and the only out of class work was readings and notes.
She is helpful and all I guess but it is not very fair that your overall class grade is pretty much depended on like 1-2 essays. Not fair at all.
She was very disorganized! Love her as a person but she was unclear and confusing and on top of that I got a C! I wouldn't take her if I were you! There's lots of better English teachers at BC. No one ever knew what was going on and we wrote pointless journal entries.
She's really nice and cool and it's understandable that she has a lot of papers to grade but the feedback for our papers were given very late (like the feedback of our first draft was given back on the day that the final paper was due). Overall, it's an easy class if you do all the assignments, especially since you get to write about your interests
I highly recommend Natalie! Grading is pretty straightforward. It does not take her THAT long to get back to you on grades. She does use canvas so you will always know where you stand with a grade. She is very understanding and approachable. Great attitude and makes going to class enjoyable. The layout of the class was perfect!
Natalie is the best! Yes it does take her a while to grade things but she uses canvas and you usually have a pretty good idea of where you stand with a grade. Also she is very approachable and you can always ask her if you are unsure. Overall she is a great professor and very friendly! I would take her again!
Natalie is one of the best profs you will ever take for 201. There was tons of work towards the end to wrap up the class but she is always available through e-mail or on campus. I was super worried about the final paper but the way she combines all the drafts in the end made me more confident about the grading and paper. I would take her again!
I love Natalie! We only had one essay and a final project. We had a quarter blog and a lot of interesting discussions. One group project but overall very interesting class not overwhelming. Natalie is the sweetest, chillest professor ever. A bit late with grading though.
Technical Writing with Prof Martinez was alright! She is a very sweet person and very VERY intelligent, but a bit confusing with her grading criteria, and not very organized. I didn't hate the course, and I did learn many useful things, but I don't know if I would take another class with her or not
Natalie was a very nice and chill teacher. However, her grading is SUPER SLOW like what the others said. If you show up in class everyday and try your best, she will give you a decent grade. Our final project was pass/fail so it wasn't too hard for me.
Natalie was alright. I wouldn't recommend you take her. She's cool and all, but she's so extremely disorganized that it's an issue. We read some great books but we were always behind and you never got feedback on your work because she never graded anything. Nothing in the grade book until the day before grades were on transcripts.
She gives a very quick response and is really supportive. She is willing to spend time for students and helps them with the paper. she is a great teacher.
Great teacher! A bit unclear at times, but very willing to answer questions and work with you until you understand. Papers are not to hard. If you are willing to do the work then its a pretty easy class. Overall, not to many assignments. She is super nice! Take her class! It was really fun!
She is a very nice lady but not a great teacher. Some of the instructions for the essays were super unclear and no one understood the requirements. She is super slow at grading. For example, she would say that she would give us feedback by Thursday, then we'd get it back the next Monday. We would get feedback the day before the essay was due.
She is a very good professor.
Really easy proffessor to take to get an easy A, but she's very unclear half the time. For the second essay, she told us to "come in with any picture" and then she made us connect it with some stuff that didn't even apply to half of our pictures. We had 2 essays to write this whole quarter and if you can write an essay in one day, you don't to try.
Natalie makes you want to write because you're able to write about things you care about. Very willing to meet outside of class/after class to give feedback or better instruction. She can be disorganized at times and push back due dates which can leave everything crammed until the end BUT you really only have four projects the entire quarter.
She was so disorganized it drove me crazy! She set a schedule and got so far behind it that the whole class was shoved into the last couple weeks. She assigns lots of readings but there's no accountability so it's pretty much optional. Every class period is basically a group discussion because she's too disorganized to plan a lecture. 3/10.
Natalie is a super cool person and she definitely has a passion for literature, but I don't think she cares for teaching. She is gone A LOT. She often forgets or posts readings multiple days late and expects us to read them on time. She is also unclear about assignments and for our projects, she only with other groups before presenting but not ours
Ahhhhhh I called her "no grade natalie" because she posted like 1 blog entry grade only after like week 6 hahaha She is a busy person and might not have too much time for you individually but just keep emailing her, she'll get to you :) Cancels class a lot so if you're taking this class for credit, take her.. She was still super sweet
We had a blog writing assignment due in late January and didn't grade it until mid March. She cares a lot about literature but is a very unorganized teacher.
She is super friendly and approachable. She gives good feedback and if you work hard in her class and she sees it, you can always ask for more time on major essays. She is a tad bit unorganized but it doesn't stop the lesson. Her comments aren't confusing but if you go to OH you get the best feedback for essays.
she was too easy going, kind of left everything to the last minute.
She was the chillest teacher ever, any college kid would love her. We had only a few essays that were not difficult, and then you did in class journal writings which were so easy. She let us out early all the time and cancelled too sometimes. Such a chill class, she is so understanding and cool. Recommend!!!
Amazing professor! Very nice and good feedback. If she falls behind on work she gives time extensions. Lectures are pretty interesting and useful. She really cares about you succeeding in her class and she cares about you as a person too! Teaches a new ways of writing style so it can be a little weird but easy! Office hours are super helpful too!
Natalie is a nice and caring person. She wants to help her students, however, she doesn't really give feedback until the last minute and she seems very unorganized. I wouldn't take a class with her again. She always said "I'll grade this and give you feedback tonight" and never did it. Most of the times it took her very long to give you feedback!
Honestly those who keep saying that she doesnt grade quickly or waits till the last minute. She is an English instructor. This is not math or science class where there is generally an easy answer. She gives great feedback and is very intelligent. I took English 101 and 201 with her and if I have to take anymore English classes: sticking with her!
Yes very slow at grading. Be proactive, go to her office and ask for feedback on your paper. She will do it right then and there. As for as grades if you want to know how you are doing, ask her. Yes all of that is pretty annoying but she is the most reasonable English teacher ever! You have to be proactive and go ask her.
Natalie was the easiest professor I have ever had. She wasn't strict on deadlines and only gave 2 essays through the whole quarter. If you want an EASY A take her online course. I hate school and ever I got an A
She is extremely slow on grading. I took her hybrid class with CJ and it was extremely unorganized. The material was interesting, but repetitive. Way too many readings. Only 3 papers which was nice. Not clear on deadlines/grading.
Martinez was a great English teacher. She helped me become better at APA style essays, and was a very generous grader. As long as you thoughfully complete an assignment, you should get an A on it. 2 small essays and 1 big essay only.
Martinez is a good instructor. Did she help me become a better writer? No. I feel she seemed distracted and unmotivated. I say this because she would tell us multiple times that she would give feedback on writing assignments that end up in her final portfolio, but she never gave it for my class. Feedback is supposed to help us improve as writers.
I have to write a 10 page essay, and Natalie helped me get to 10 pages. She introduces a lot of writing methods and techniques to help better student's research paper. Beginning of the quarter there's a lot of readings. Towards the end it's all about essay writing. She is a extremely helpful professor and gives good feedbacks.
Natalie is an amazing teacher, especially by Bellevue College standards. I felt like her class brought my research process up to a college level. She truly cares about her students' success and is available for help outside class, she's very reasonable about adjusting the curriculum to the pace of the class, and is loose on most deadlines.
Had her for both 101(in person) and 201(online). Truly a gem from Bellevue College. Super nice and reasonable with grading. The papers assigned were engaging and interesting to write. She was very considerate of all the things going on in 2020. Basically do what you're told to do and you'll get an A. responds well. Would HIGHLY recommend her.
If you want any actual support writing a research paper, do not take this class. Martinez does not grade any assignments until the last weeks of class. Unclear expectations and poor guidance. Unprofessional, does not follow through on what she says she will do, totally checked out.
I advise y'all not to take this class with her. She doesn't grade anything till the last week, she is unorganized, she doesn't follow through what she promises, there lacked guidance in the class, I was always frustrated and confused, and she literally piles up work on you for no reason.
she used to be a good professor reading through the comments from the past but now her online class is way too stressful. she usually released 1 assignment a week due Sunday but the week of thanksgiving she released 3 assignments due Sunday and 1 major assignment a week after posting. small homework is worth 1-5% of your grade but some is worth5-10
She doesn't grade till the last minute and her directions are very unclear. She is nice enough but if you don't want to be confused then don't take her class.
She doesn't grade anything until the quarter is basically over, so you have to hope that all your assignments meet her expectations. She's unclear with her expectations for assignments and will give you NO credit if you fail to meet them, even if you did the work. You also need to self-study for this class as she doesn't really teach you anything.
I liked the feedback that was given for essays, and how we had opportunities to re-turn things in for a better grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. I cried many many nights. Total of 60pts for the entire quarter with abstract essays and assignments. She doesn't grade till the night before, accessible and a great person but not at all helpful. Essays are very hard and we only got through 15% of course content. By far hardest English course and impossible for first timers
This class and prof were a dumpster fire 100%! Beware of total chaos!!!
Professor Martinez was a decent instructor for the most part. The biggest knock I would give her is the fact that she was unresponsive at times and took until the very last minute of the quarter to grade our individual and group assignments. This class and its final group project were fun, however just understand that it is all very self-paced.
ez class, nice person.
Easiest class I've ever taken in my life.
NIGHTMARE ESSAYS! All instructions are unclear, many readings&documents&very little info to help you w/ the assignments.Confused through the entire class.Youll probably have to bs through this course & cross your fingers that you pass even with lackluster materials. 2nd awful ENG course Ive taken. She is nice but this course is hell, dont recommend
Please take the negative reviews seriously, I decided that since the reviews seem mixed that the professor might be decent, she's really not. She is highly unorganized and apathetic, and takes a million years to grade assignments. Has graded almost nothing and there are only two weeks left in the quarter, and she suddenly posted 6 long assignments.
CHOOSE AND SWITCH GROUP WISELY! Got 100%, easy class but depends a lot on your group since it's group-heavy after 3 weeks of solo work. Prof Martinez is cool and understanding with late work, but expect a sudden to-do list bomb near the end. She's a bit unorganized and graded EVERYTHING last minute. Just pray for a good team and communicate.
she likes doing the 'submit answers to several questions then reply to two peers' posts' thing (i did online, don't know if this would vary for in-person) but it isn't that bad, and usually marks assignments as complete instead of n/n. still, good teacher with good responses and gives feedback on some assignments that were encouraging for me.
Very nice lady and extremely understanding with late work, but expect her to be late with grading things too. She only started grading 7 weeks into the quarter. She tells you in class about receiving feedback on assignments, but that's a straight up lie. Still super lenient on grading criteria though.
