Natalie is super sweet. She explains everything clearly and is very approachable with any topic, no matter how difficult or basic. She uses lots of videos, illustration, and analogies to help make the most complex concepts understandable from all different perspectives. Whether or not biology is your thing, I totally recommend taking her class.
Natalie is truly amazing. She's super sweet and really cares about how you do in the class. Her passion for biology is inspiring and she really tries to get you to enjoy it too. She uses slides, pictures, and videos, as well as analogies. She also will go over something, then have you turn to someone and explain it to each other. She's amazing
Test is based on lecture points and big picture, and she makes the material easy to understand + makes sure you know what is required on the test. Quizzes are due each week, but they're good for you because it's like review for old/new chapters and makes you memorize better. Make sure to have a study partner on hand since of course this is bio112
Natalie is one of the nicest teachers I've had but her exams are tricky. It's a lot of trick questions that can really hurt your grade. There's open book quizzes every week and they're easy. Only 3 other homework assignments for the term. Pay close attention in lectures. The course moves fast and there's lots of material to go over.
Natalie makes science just a little easier. Her topics are complex, but she finds a way to make them palatable and less overwhelming. Also, she's a big nerd about biology and its unbelievably endearing.
Natalie is a great person and professor. She wants her students to succeed and be excited about what they're learning. She tries to incorporate different types of learning styles into her lectures, so you really SHOULD attend. But if you can't, she puts her PowerPoints online with helpful videos and study guides. Lab attendance in mandatory!
Natalie was the most amazing teacher EVER! She knows the material. She's passionate about it. Her lectures are awesome because she gets you involved in your own learning by making you repeat key terms, explaining concepts to someone seated next to you, etc. At practicals, she says, "You've got this," to every student. Every one. She really cares.
Phenomenal teacher! Class was engaging. She has lots of ways to help student remember things, even making up a quirky rap song. She is a tough but fair grader. Expectations are clear. Really good for giving you a foundation for future classes. Read the chapter before class and try to fill out the study guides, and then come ready for questions.
Natalie has a very sweet and positive attitude, and she brings that to her lectures. She provides study guides on D2L, I suggest you print and fill them out during lecture because they make a world of difference when it comes to the tests. She is always offering her office hours and is more than happy to help you out. She cares about her students.
Natalie is a great teacher but there is a lot of information and if you don't pay attention in class, it's hard to catch up. She is enthusiastic and wonderful at explaining things so you understand them. I highly recommend her, i liked her so much I am taking her for A&P also!
Natalie was the best teacher. I would 110% take her again for A and P. Her tests are easy if you study her guides and she really tries her best to help the class understand and practice the material. She does not give any homework, but her lab quizzes can be on the harder side. She is such a good teacher, highly recommend
Absolutely amazing A&P instructor. She provides you with tons of resources, videos, and materials that would help you understand the concepts of Physiology. For lab, she makes sure you stay on top of your materials by giving you quiz in the beginning of every lab class. Homework for each chapters, 3 lecture exams that base of her study guide.
I took Natalie for AP 231 and AP 232 and I wish I could have taken her for AP 233. She honestly cares about all of her students and wants you to succeed! This is an AP course so it is hard and you will have to work for it but Natalie sets you up for success. She also gives a lot of easy points to help boost your grade!
Natalie is a gem! Her lectures are easy to understand and her study guides relate to most of the stuff on the lecture exams. However, I noticed she's a bit of a rough grader, so be careful with what you write on your lecture exams. Definitely would take her again!
Natalie genuinely cares about her students by offering a great and supportive learning space. She also takes student's thoughts into consideration and adjusts the test around so it's easier. However, she is a bit of a tough grader so beware! Her tests contains a lot of FREE response but thats because she wants you to understand the material better!
This is tough material and professor Mix makes it fun, relatable and easy to understand.
Took her for 232 and I really appreciated how organized she was. Presented everything in a clear manner along with a step by step study guide for the pre-recorded lectures. During the Zoom lectures she was very nice about any questions asked regarding the material and was clear on what was needed to know for quizzes and tests.
Took as a online class during covid. She was available for students, helpful, and clear on expectations. Graded fairly and tested fair. Tip: attend as many class/labs as you can- she goes over what she thinks is important to know for exams/quizzes. Does not offer study guides but covers what she tests on through hw/lectures/ powerpoints.
Super positive and supportive. Incredible online lecture videos for weekly material in addition to weekly zoom meeting. Has weekly open lab hours for students that have more in depth questions or need additional help. I was legitimately sad when I had to miss a lecture, she's that fun! HW + study guides no surprises on quizzes or tests.
The best Anatomy and Physiology teacher I ever had. She is very supportive and accessible outside class. She is truly amazing. The zoom meetings are really fun!!!
Nice but extra. Makes us look at all 100+ hisology, anatomytv and lab images for lab and random google images u don't see till exam making it tricky. Dump extra work to research vaccine during final week. She follows a strict biology department rule that cause her to be inflexible with more quiz time and student needs. However she is a fair grader
Absolutely the best teacher across all PCC campuses. Sets the bar high for future teachers in ALL science classes. Has pre-lecture HW, lecture attendance, lab and lecture quizes & exams, and 3 "art" projects (easy). All help you to learn and buffer your grade if you get some questions wrong. Go to open lab and you'll score 100% on each lab quiz.
Not a good teacher. Tricks you with images that you haven't even gone over
Natalie is fantastic to work with and gives clear expectations. She will take time needed in class to go over a subject that the class is not grasping. Some groupwork, which I can do without but does not take away from this class. She gives some fun projects to gain some buffer points. She will also admit when there is an error and correct it.
BEST TEACHER EVER!! Seriously amazing. There's a lot of work and it's HARD, but Natalie makes it fun. She gives tons of examples and really pushes you, she's passionate and dorky which is great. Yes, she expects a lot from you and she uses images that are flipped or from a diff. angle than shown in class, but it's so you truly learn the material.
I had Natalie for 231 and 232 and I really wish I had been able to take her for 230 as well. She is honestly such a kind person, she sends a weekly e-mail to remind students what we have due/coming up, and always ends with encouragement that we can do it. Great lectures that are engaging and keep you focused. Lab is a bit harder than lecture.
I took Natalie for 232 & 233; She was the BEST professor ever! I loved how she had all her lectures pre-recorded -- it really helped me by being able to go back and re-watch things i didn't understand since these classes tend to be material heavy! Be prepared to fill out those study guides for lecture & lab -- they're the key to passing her class!
Mix was the most informative A&P professor I've had so far! I never had to use the textbook. Lectures were online, while class met 1x/week to go over the material, answer questions, and review lecture/homework concepts. Class participation is graded. Lab projects are creative and you get lots of time to do them. This is a CLASS not a dry lecture
Natalie is such a wonderful instructor! She makes a tough subject fun and engaging, I looked forward to each class. If you show up to class and study the necessary materials, you should fair well. Because it is a&p, I still spent MANY hours per week studying. I felt that the grading was clear, fair and the time allotted for exams was sufficient.
Natalie is a nice & helpful person but course expectations are unclear.
She was my favorite A&P Professor. The class was similar difficulty to other professors, but Natalie made it easy to engage and care about the material. It's still a tough class but having a fun professor makes mastering the material less of a chore.
Natalie was one of the best professors I had at PCC. She is an engaging lecturer & created an environment for community AND learning which is challenging for online classes. She is passionate about biology & teaching and inspired me in both the content and using it in my future profession. I really wish I had her for AP 1, 2 and 3! She is amazing!
Natalie has been one of the best professors I've ever had. A&P classes are not supposed to be easy although she does whatever she can to help. She's approachable, and extremely helpful with offering support. If you read, watch and study the material assigned you will do just fine. She creates a fun environment! You can tell A&P is her passion.
Professor Mix is very good instructor. She is passionate about her work and is very understanding of people's various situations. If you show up ready to learn and do the work she assigns, you are almost guaranteed to understand the content and pass the class with ease. Biggest downside for me is I don't think I'll have a better teacher after her.
I wish I had taken the entire A&P sequence with Natalie! She is amazing. She is thorough and what you learn in lecture/lab is exactly what you will be tested on. Material is challenging and there is a lot to learn and but she is very accessible and cares about her students understanding the material. One of the best professors I have had at PCC :)
A&P 231,232,233.Natalie is an awesome instructor! She is approachable and sets her students up for success. A&P is not an easy class, you need time and commitment for this course. Weekly quizzes/tests & homework. It helps to follow her study guides, attend open labs, watch lecture videos, review the syllabus/class schedule and participate in class.
Prof. Mix is a gem. I took her for 231, 232, and 233. The class is difficult, but she gives you the tools needed. Prof. Mix provides study guides for the lecture portion and clear guidelines for what is covered in lab. She is accessible outside of class and creates an amazing community. We all helped one another and wanted each other to succeed!
The absolute best instructor I have ever had. Natalie made A&P so much better by giving informative lectures, always being ready to help and answer questions, and engaging with her students. She gives you all of the materials to set you up for success in this information heavy course. She was very knowledgeable, kind and inspiring.
Attendance not mandatory yet participation grades count as much as quizzes in this class!!! She is the easiest teacher of them all if you do the weekly recitation homework, take the open note quizzes on time, turn in your class notes for credit, and make an art project. She is boring but likes you if you go to her office and shell help you more
I took her 231 because of her good ratings here. Now that I know her voice I think she wrote them. Look for "amazing" or "awesome" that is Natalie's writing!! She is just ok, not the worst lecturer, but more of an annoying cheerleader. Assigns like high school with homework and graded notes and weekly open note quizzes. Boring class in my opinion
Course expectations unclear. Lab videos do not match her 'checklists'. so frustrating! Students need a clear explanation for the current list. Natalie piles on disorganized resources without clear directions of what is crucial to know. Her tangents are boring. Open-note quizzes are the only good thing, other profs do not do that. much busy work
Professor Mix was a great instructor, I took her for both 121 & 122 to get my foot in the door for the 3 class sequence of anatomy. She was great and her teaching style is very engaged with the class, so if thats not your thing it might not be your favorite. Overall great class, great instructor and great experience!
Took Intro to Anatomy/Physiology for two terms. Awesome teacher, great coursework, really helped me engage with anatomy topics. Very precise grader on assignments, hands out tons of papers at labs. Setting up students to succeed, would recommend!
Disappointed when she used Google Scholar to search answers during our review for the lecture exam! yeesh! Seems like she doesn't know it when she can't answer our questions. Overly detailed grader taking off points without explaining or providing answer keys to support studying. Underkill on topics and overkill on others. not clear what to study
She's a great teacher. I don't understand where negative reviews for her are coming from. There's a lot of homework but that's actually a good thing because it boosts your grade. She grades easy on homework and tests IMO. Straight up, if you don't like Natalie Mix for A&P you're a special snowflake who needs to reevaluate your healthcare career.
Assigns LOTS of busy work. She is ok, but not for everyone. I will try someone else for 232 or 233. I wouldn't let her top fans shame you out of following your dreams. Just find a teacher you can relate to. I found Natallie Mix to be 100% unrelatable.
So many papers. Save the trees, please. A lot of her worksheets could have been completed online but prof expects handwritten class work. Nice person, relatively accmmodating, so boring! Agree with comment section how she's unrelatable. Office hours at weird times that won't work for me, recommend open lab to take the time you'll need to for help.
Disregard any bad reviews on here. A&P is a tough class, that is an unavoidable fact, but Natalie is amazing! She goes above and beyond for students and is accessible outside class, she even held online review sessions before each exam. Natalie inspired me so much and did everything she could to set me and my class up to become successful nurses!
Natalie is an awesome professor! She really cares about each student and makes the difficult material easy to understand.
Taking the whole sequence with her. Class is flipped so you learn online independently and she clarifies the content in class and has you apply it to different situations. She actually cares and is easily available over email or in person during office hours when you have questions. If you do the work and apply yourself, it's easy to pass.
You can tell she cares a lot, and she is a very kind person! However, very, very test heavy and lots of busy work. Homework only worth 5 points with no feedback, not useful mandatory discussion posts, quizzes uploaded a day before they're due with no warning, etc. I found the way her coursework was set up to be the most stressful in any class.
A&P as a whole is a difficult course/sequence, but Natalie made it an enjoyable and encouraging experience in class. She expects each student to be active participants in class. She gives plenty of feedback after each discussion post and assignment/quiz, and gives clarification on the material if needed.
She was ok. Her personality is nice, she's very outgoing and easy to approach, but in terms of the material - it's tough. Her testing style is on the harder side as it tests your knowledge, not your memory. You need to make like compare and contrast style questions and short answers that make you test your knowledge of the topics. Good luck:)
Truly an amazing professor! Makes class fun, engaging, and inclusive. Every assignment and exam is designed to help you really understand the material, they are challenging but fair. Gives great feedback, committed to helping her students however she can. Her class will prepare you well for nursing school!
I was nervous about A&P but glad I took Natalie's class! She made complex topics understandable. The hw, class, & in-class activities helped me solidify the content. My weekly routine: day 1) watch lecture & take notes, 2) re-read notes, 3) hw, 4) class, 5) review & quiz, day 6/7) relax. I didn't need the textbook. Used study guides for test prep.
231, ok, easy, and it's ridiculous waste that we have to pay for a book Mix never uses or directs us to use! Save your money by sharing the homework pages instead. Mix is very clear about what to know what not to bother studying with all her worksheets and activities. Engagement, time, and going to her office hours decide your success with the Mix!!
Natalie is a committed and dedicated professor! She is highly knowledgeable and knows how to break down information for students. Highly recommend.
Such a great teacher, clearly passionate about the subject and her students!
I have taken her for the entire Bi231,232,233 series. Most of the students in our 233 class have had her all the way through as well. Students drive from all over Portland to take her classes. Her classes are engaging, rather than lecture-based. She provides lots of feedback & support to her students. You won't regret taking her.
Natalie is not only an expert in the content, she is also an expert in teaching. I wish we had more professors like her. She has given me the confidence and foundation I need to go into nursing. I highly recommend Natalie.
I think all the negative comments for Natalie are left by the same person. You can tell the language is repetitive. I hate mean people who target others online. Natalie is amazing- a first-rate professor in every way.
Natalie is a fantastic instructor. She truly loves teaching A&P and it shows. She brings clinical studies to the lecture so it gets you to start thinking about the clinal setting and thinking a bit out of the box. I enjoy that she cares about her students and that they understand the material, and will help any way she can if you ask.
Pros to taking Natalie's class: activities boost your grade, and she is super supportive. She's my G!! Cons: flipping huge amount of writing on study guides, homework, and discussions. This class is not a passive where you show up to absorb information from the professor. You have to manage your time outside of class, study hard & earn your A.
Natalie Mix is the best professor I have ever had throughout my entire school career. She is incredible at teaching her subject and know what she's talking about. she truly takes time to teach you and gets to know you. I had a very tough term personally, Natalie always checked in with me and made sure I had what I needed to succeed. 1000% recommend
This was a solid class. Very well organized, clear, tests had the info she said it was going to have. Lots of fill-in-the blank type stuff, multiple choice, some long answer. Still a TON of stuff to study, but expectations and tests are straight forward. Natalie is really approachable. I don't get the weird bad reviews here.
BI231 is a hard class -- so much stuff to memorize for lab! Make sure you have time to study for this class almost every day of the term. It's my second time taking this class and I think Natalies class is more organized, clear, and fair than my other experience. Ask questions and go to office hours and open labs.Turn stuff in on time. do practiceQ
Natalie is one of the best professors around. I took her for the entire BI231, 232, 233 series. I wouldn't have taken these courses from anyone else! She is the best option and made these courses really enjoyable.
Not the best professor. Not the worst. I was expecting more because some reviews say amazing!!. This class is organized like others, nothing soecial, with homework & weekly quizzes. The quizzes are what she says they'll be, and there is a ton of written work. Learning style is specific. take another professor if all the homework is not your thing.
Natalie is an amazing instructor. She teaches things in a way that really make sense if you take the time to pay attention and study regularly (which is necessary for this course). You will need to KNOW the material if you want to get a good grade. She gives lots of different resources and is very approachable and helpful :)
Don't let the negative reviews on here scare you. Natalie is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is passionate about the class and really cares about students. I had an emergency during the term and she was really flexible, highly recommend!
I have taken the whole series of A&P with Natalie, I am just finishing 233. Her video recordings are really helpful, and she provides lots of resources. She encourages critical thinking, not just memorizing! I feel like I have learned so much from her.
She does a very good job teaching all the body systems we have gone through, whether it be reproductive, circulatory, muscular, and so much more. She always brings creative ideas and real world connection that makes the concepts stick. I would recommend her to avid anatomy students and first time anatomy students as well. 10/10 fun and informative.
Natalie is an amazing anatomy and physiology professor. She deeply cares about the students success and having people understand the materials. There is one homework assignment due each week that teaches you the information as you fill it out. Quizzes/exams are very fair. Case studies and group work in class help in thoroughly understanding info.
Natalie is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. I could tell she really cared about me and my success in the course. I took a few different professors for the A&P series and Natalie was the best of all of them! The class was well structured, and I loved her flipped learning style. Awesome professor, definitely recommend.
She is a really great professor. Very kind, and her class is organized well. This class was really tough, and I had to put in a lot of effort to get a good grade, but Natalie made it fun and enjoyable. Her reviews are really helpful, so attend those if you can, they help prepare you for the tests. In-class discussions are helpful too.
Natalie was really great. I've taken many different classes over the years for various degrees, and she is the best professor I have ever had. She doesn't just teach memorization, she actually wants you to apply what you are learning. The A&P series is really tough, but I felt supported the entire time, and she worked with me to help me succeed.
Natalie clearly cares about students! The class is test-heavy with lots of weekly assignments. Homework and quizzes match the syllabus but feel low-value and more stressful than necessary. It's a heavy load if you're not ready to stay on top of everything. Overly detailed weekly announcements would be easier to track if she focussed on key tasks
Soo many long winded lecture recordings to watch on fast forward. Natalie's communicarions are a bit much with overexplaining like micromanaging of highschoolers. We are adults, ma'am. Class schedule is complex and stressful and participation is mandatory to succeed. Uncomfortable for introverts. Test and homework heavy.
She is a great professor, very caring and wants you to suceed. The class does have alot of Weekly assingments, Homework (before class), Quizzes, Study guides so be wary of the workload. She explains things very well some material is scattered so you have to dig for it but overall a great class. Be prepared to put in the effort but It pays off!
I had professor Mix for anatomy 231, 232, 233. She is an amazing professor and gives you the tools to be as successful as you want to be. This is a hard class and she made it possible for me to be successful. She cares about her students and helps when you need it, within reason.
Supportive within reason. Smattering of mandatory busy work must be completed to pass Natalie's open book and notes quizzes. Stressful class but not too terrible if you succumb to the fact that it's A and P. Not fior the weak or slow minded student. Pack your lunch and work for it
Natalie is really well-organized, clear, and helpful. It was a tough class, but I feel really well prepared for nursing school and she has helped me build up my confidence. Make sure you have set aside the time needed for this class -- it's a lot no matter who is your instructor. Natalie makes it as painless as possible
Natalie is an amazing professor. Her class is difficult, and she knows that it is a heavy topic. She does an incredible job explaining everything in ways we can understand. Although her classes are long, she lays them out in a hands-on manner that keeps everyone involved and makes the class go by fast. She helps everyone succeed.
Best professor i have ever had, spent two terms with her now and her organization, lectures, class engagement is phenomenal. You always know what to expect, HW every Monday, quiz every lab (except exam weeks), lecture quiz every Saturday. She has a talent for making complicated subjects easy to understand. She should seriously train professors!
I took her for the full anatomy sequence during the 2024-2025 year and her class was amazing. She taught the material well and her D2L was well structured. You could go ahead if you wanted and she was okay with reasonable late work. The lectured expanded on the prerecorded lectures and made interest in the subject. A&P is hard, but she made it fun.
