She's really sweet, and genuinely interested in the topic. A lot of reading is assigned, but if you take good notes, and you won't need to read the book. Very helpful and understanding. I strong recomend taking this class.
She was so sweet and helpful. She did not expect us to read the book, so she gave us wonderful notes that had online.
This was the best class I have ever taken. It was academically challenging, stimulating, and very interesting. You will think about teaching and society in new ways. I would highly recommend that you take a class from this instructor.
Pretty, smart, dynamic, clear, enthusiastic...YES YES YES
The best Child dev teacher at sac state
Wonderful teacher. Very Helpful.
helpful, easy, clear, enthusiastic teacher. This class is easy. just as long as you go to her lectures because her tests are basically about lectures. there are 3 tests, 2 essay papers(not hard at all) and no final. Getting an A is really not hard at all. She grades pretty easy on the essays which brings your grade up
Great teacher! Funny, and good energy. Not hard, but a little work and you do learn. I wish I had her for more! Oh, and she has good study guides which are hard to come around.
Very fun, always dresses cute, she was very helpful and makes sure that no one is left behind in the class. I hope that if you have a chance to take her take her in this class......
She's nice & sometimes funny. She talks too much. She's negative about her daughter and other peoples mistakes. Mostly focused on her opinion. She didn't read the book and went by power point - hint! Doesn't respond to emails and slow to respond on Bb.
TOOK HER BECAUSE OF THE RATING. HORRIBLE CLASS SINCE SHE'S A LITTLE SELF CENTERED -WHICH GETS OLD. SHE'S OBSESSED W/THE THEORIST'S & THEIR DETAILS INSTEAD OF THE BOOK. ESSAYS ARE RETARDED. EXAMS GOOD. CLASS MANDATORY.
Class was better than I had expected. She kept the class fun with her jokes even though they where about her. There was a lot of controversy when it came to the grades. The average grade was "C" according to the average & the students. Good luck!
Her assignments are generally challenging and her tests are as well. Her tests are harder than you expect but if you just study you will do good. She grades papers pretty hard but the portfolio she doesnt grade hard at all. She is very dedicated to her job and someone great to talk to if you have questions. I would have her as a professor again.
Nice lady. Does a fairly good job covering the lifespan in a limited amount of time, but worksheets are silly and the exams are rife with typographical errors. In all fairness, I wouldn't say she is negative about her daughter like someone else said. She seems like a proud single parent.
Great personality!! Good Course! Loved it!
Fun clas everyone should take it!
I hated this class. She was very unorganized and she took forver to return any papers. The material is confusing and hard to understand. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
okay teacher. a little self centered like someone else said. almost seems like she acts smarter than she is. not very helpful. luckily the class is a no brainer for the most part. fly under the radar and you'll be fine.
I'm not sure what others are talking about. The negative comments are probably from students who did nothing and got bad grades. Professor Pierce is one the best teachers I've had. Classes are always interestings, challenging and make you think in new ways. I wish I had more teachers like her.
She is a great teacher she knows her stuff eventhough she gets off topic a lot but overall the class is great. She does everything on sacCT she uses powerpoint and everything is on sacCT for you to print. Study guides are online so there is no excuses to fail the exams.
I did not enjoy the subject very much but it was very interesting. she is very organized and makes lecutres fun. Her activities are easy to do and you get to go off campus to meet first graders!!!
Prof Pierce is a nice lady who knows the material. I had a tough time with this class for some reason. Go to class, take notes and study. Offers extra credit, so take advantage of it. I got high C's on exams, did well on worksheets and did extra credit so I ended up with an A. Just study and do extra credit so you will be fine. Overall, good class.
She tends to favor students a lot. If she won't like you from the start, you won't do well in the class.
GRADES WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS POORLY. If she doesn?t agree with your opinion she will grade you down just for that. Takes off points and gives you lamest excuses ever. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER.
pretends to be nice and all that. but she's evil. was not clear about her assignments and what exactly needs to be included in them. at first she will give you an impression like you gonna get an "a" but you will end up with a grade you didn't expect at all! so watch out!!!
Pierce's child development class was pretty easy. She appears to be very nice, which most of the time she is, but she is very inconsistent with her words. She'll say something is extra credit, then she turns around in a week & say it's not EC anymore and that she never mentioned it being EC in the first place. Inconsistent, disorganized, but easy.
OK shes not that bad, only a little disorganized. I think its bc she had a stressful yr.Anyway, do your Worksheets ahead of time, cause you turn in ten at end of yr for your portfolio assignment. 2 writing assignments (fairly easy). Do ALL EXTRA CREDIT!!! Thats how i got an A. 3 exams total, some were online. Lectures R interesting. Nice lady :)
would not recommend her. she is disorganized. the class would be way better if i would take it with some other professor. she's just not a professor to teach child development class.
She was awful! I could not adjust to her way of grading. I would fallow her comments and apply them to written assignments but she would still find something else. Going to her office hours is a waste of time. She would just talk about random stuff and you just walk out of there more confused then you were.
Very easy as long as you paid attention and read the text. Tests are ridiculously easy although she "forgets" to cover a small amount of the material on the test.
Great Professor! Her class is really easy. Follow her study guide and you'll do good on the exams. Her lectures are clear and accurate. She gives good examples to relate to the material. I would recommend her. She loves to hear her students opinions and personal experience. The atmosphere in class is great. It will be hard to fail the class
Natalie was a good teacher, though her class didnt interest me. She got really off-topic sometimes but really tried to get us all interested in lectures. Very easily class as long as you study for the tests (We had 3) and do your assignments. Usually pretty clear but she was always open to answering questions & going over study guides for the tests
Professor Pierce was a wonerderful professor. She is always enthusiastic. She offers extra credit, so do them! All her test was pretty fair. I love her, and willl definetly taker her again.
easy class. i attended on exam days only, 4 exams all extremely easy mc, and 2 two page papers. with no effort i got an A+, def recommend if you want an easy ge class
Pierce was extremely helpful. I loved her class. The knowledge she had really engaged the class and made it much more fun. Her experiences through life were interesting and explained the class. Take her! She is an amazing professor.
I took an online version of the CHDV 35 class and hated it. She was extremely disorganized, there were typos on everything, and she did not reply to emails quickly, if at all. She forgot to give us an exam once, so she gave it on Easter weekend instead. No one had time to study. I don't recommend taking her as an online professor.
Took it online & is so easy! There are 3 exams, 2 projects, discussion questions each week, and gives extra credit. The exams are word for word from the book but does have typos. Exam Q's are unclear sometimes but if you are good at locating key terms you'll do fine. Projects were easy. I would recommend this class, ignore the person below.
Took this class online and it was easy, 3 exams in total and 2 projects. The teacher would have us do discussions once a week. I think she could of made her self more clear on assignments but other than that it was a good class. I do reccomend taking her
Awesome teacher. Just the best. I was challenged in my thinking. We explored many aspects of the issued in research and history in parenting. She is really fair and honestly cares about her students. There were A LOT of whining and complaining - which I think comes from lazy students. I would take a class again from her!
She was one of the best teachers I have had here at CSUS. She is very helpful and a great teacher. Look over her slides and go over the study guide and you will do good in this class. There is only two writing assignments and three test that are fairly easy.
As long as you read your textbook before class and attend class regularly, you'll do fine. For this class, we had 3 exams. The first one was on paper and the other two were online. Two papers which are super easy. The first one is 2 page long, the second is only 1 page. She is clear, organize, and helpful. Enjoyed her class! Highly recommend her.
Not a hard class at all. Three exams and two papers. The papers are short and pretty easy and two of the exams were online so it's easy to get an A. She knows the material very well and she is good about making things clear and answering questions.
She is a great professor and loves telling stories. I really enjoyed being in her class. Three exams and two of them are online, which are easy if you take good notes. Only used the textbook when I was writing the essays.
Enjoyable class. She was very knowledgeable but fairly disorganized. Often the class was very confused about due dates and guidelines. Besides that, it was a class you can look forward to coming to as she told stories as examples of the material we were covering. Interesting material, straightforward tests. Would recommend for chdv 30
Professor is a wonderful teacher. She is fair and does what she can to help you. Is very understanding and willing to work with me when I had some issues and personal problems. Exams were fair, you do need read. I would love to take another class from her.
You don't see much fantastic professors nowadays; therefore, don't hesitate when deciding to take this class. She's absolutely understanding if you're in pickle situation, so don't be scared to go to her office hours. Overall, the class is pretty easy if you put in the effort. 3 test, 2 papers, and extra credit. I recommend you take this class.
1 APA format essay on child observation, 1 normal essay(super easy), 3 exams, no final. She also offers at least 3-4 extra credit as well. Her teaching methods are clear, she takes the info from textbk and change them into her own words. She also shows video which helps give me a better view and understanding of things. She is an awesome teacher!
I would absolutely recommend Pierce! Her class was super interesting and she gave interesting lectures. There are three tests, and the second two are online. Only two essays, and they are both super easy. Only downside is theres a lot of reading involved, but if you do the reading, you'll be fine.
Natalie Pierce was the best. I enjoyed her class a lot and would take another class from her. The lectures & activities in class were interesting, she was really helpful when it came to writing assignments and doing it via the APA style. We did once a week reflection writing assignments, which were challenging if you did pay attention or read.
1 child observation paper, 1 adult observation(very easy and short), offers easy extra credit opportunities, 3 exams and no final. She is extremely nice and clear. Her lectures can be a little outdated and she can be a little scatterbrained. As long as you do the work and pay attention, you will get an A. Bring your book for weekly writing!
Instructor Pierce is a easy teacher. The class consist of three exam and two easy paper. Passed this class with an A.
Papers are not hard at all. Probably took me 30 mins to write 2 pages. First test is in class, but the other 2 are online, so it's open book. There's a quiz each week, so you'll need to read a bit, but it's open book. It's out of 100 points, each worth 10 points, but she gives 14 quizzes and drops the 4 lowest scores.
Doesn't just read off slides or teach right out of textbook, uses her life experiences and others to demonstrate material in real life. Super knowledgeable. 3 tests- first one in class and other 2 on open book/note; no final
Sweet teacher. Her personal stories made class interesting.
14 Reflection ?s every Wed. Three exams total; one in-class and two online (you can choose to take it in class and get to use notes). Two papers (Child Observation and Adult Observation). You can be exempt from the Child Observation paper if you take her CHDV 144 class. Do the study guide, prepare all notes before taking exam and you'll get an A.
Reflections almost every week and she changed it to be online during the middle of the semester so that was great. 2 exams and provides study guides. 1 case study. 1 huge paper. The only thing that I would complain about is her group activities didn't engage us enough (she would basically have us take surveys or do matching worksheets).
Fantastic teacher - do not hesitate to take her class.
two exams, one case study, one interview paper, one reflective writing every week. easy grader and easy teacher. only thing i didn't like about her is that she talks over people and she cuts people off before they even finish talking. other than that, 10/10 recommend if you're looking for an Easy A
Professor was nice, the class was relax, reflective writing (make sure to read), 2 exams (challenge but simple), case study, one interview paper (easy), and sometime small group work (get to know people). That's all guys, I recommend this course to you.
She is very good person, I like how she teach , amazing lectures.
She is super nice and funny! She can be all over the place with her lectures. Assignments are easy and she grades fairly. Test are a little challenging but if the whole class does bad on the test she will let you take it home to correct the ones you missed. Honestly, it is a easy class! Easy A!
Loved her class. Lectures are very understandable. Had real life examples and experience. Very nice and knowledgeable in her field. Approachable. Reflections questions were once a week and easy to answer if you read about it in the book. Extra credit was avaliable 3 times. 2 essays
Before taking CHDV, I thought it would be boring but Professor Pierce made it really fun and enjoyable. On top of that, I learned a lot! She really knows what she's lecturing. There are 3 papers but they are easy A's! I will totally take her class again!
I wish I would have taken this in the classroom instead of online. This is the typical online class. There are weekly discussion boards - respond to three topics and then respond to three classmates. Often content for these was missing, broken links or wrong page numbers to reference the text. She responds quickly to emails however. OK class.
Her class was just ok. Weekly discussion boards which were confusing the first week. Her tests often had mistakes and were never addressed them when I emailed her. Don't buy the online version of the book because it makes it much harder. Graded one of my assignments poorly and I am not happy about it at all. Would not take her class again.
Professor Pierce really knows what she's doing. I took her for CHDV 30, and your grade is based on 3 exams (online) and 2 papers, and she does offer extra credit. Her lectures are engaging and she's puts everything on Canvas. I definitely recommend her class, her humor and lectures make the time go by quickly.
I was late for signups in Professor Pierce's class and she was more than happy to add me. This class is super interesting and very easy. Of course, you have to put an effort into the work, but it's very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend taking her class!
Professor Pierce, is a very kind lady, and she seems to care about every individual in the class. Thursdays - reading assignment quiz so always be prepared for that. Success in this class is really determined by how much you mentally engage. It's not so much memorization as it is understanding the processes, and the processes aren't hard to learn
I loved Professor Pierce's educational play. We did a lot of hands on activities, I looked forward to every class session, it quickly became my favorite class. You do need to read the assignments, including you textbook along with several stories and articles. I had no idea how much I would learn about how play and learning.
This was such a fun class. We did a lot of hands on activities, there is one observation paper, a portfolio, and two exams. Also group presentations. I had a lot of fun, and learned a lot. You do need to read, and it's easy to get behind. Overall she's an awesome person and teacher.
Professor Pierce is great. Lectures are interesting. Her humor makes time go by, I always looked forward to her class. She is clear and is fair in grading. Helped us prepare by reviewing before each exam I recommend her.
This professor is great one to have although sometimes her lectures can get off topic if you pay attention to her lectures and the book you can get a easy A in the class.
I loved this class and looked forward to it. There were so many subjects about parenting that I did not consider. Besides the academic content, it was just so interesting to think about relationships, technology and other topics. You do need to read, there were weekly reflective writing topics. Sometimes she put them on line. I recommend her.
Professor Pierce Is such a nice lady! Her exams all always online, 2 papers, and weekly readings in the textbook. Her lectures are very simple and easy to understand. Overall, her class was an easy A! So take her if you can!!!
I took Professor Pierce for both Human Development and Issues in Parenting. She is one of my favorites. She is funny, make the content interesting, and makes you think. I would love to take another class from her if I could. I highly recommend her.
Professor Pierce is great! She is very passionate about her job and she uses her own life experiences as examples in lectures. There are only 5 assignments which include a group presentation, and 2 exams. She is a fair grader and gives great feedback and as great activities that apply to what is being taught in the classroom.
Honesty she is a great professor and she cares a lot. I was hoping this class to be super fun and exciting. Its an easy class, Most of the time I did not know what was going on as she would get off topic and boom class is over. She not very organized I felt like she was all over the place and unclear when I would ask a question. Beware to be bored
Professor Pierce is a great professor! She is passionate about child development and always connects her lectures to life examples. There are three exams, in-class writing assignments, and 2 papers. I honestly really enjoyed this class, she made it go by fast!
Online class for COVID was pretty okay. I feel like I didn't learn as much as I could have if it were in person, but she gave great materials such as videos and films to look at to make up for that. The textbook is definitely needed because most of your assignments involve quotes from there. Don't forget to do the discussions every week too.
Professor Pierce was amazing! It's sad that she's retiring this semester, but through this online course, it was mostly VoiceThread slides and discussion posts + responses. As long as you do the work, you'll be fine! She is willing to help, so attend her office hours if you need it! Also, her study guides + review sessions help you prepare.
Natalie Pierce was amazing. This was the second class I was able to take with her and I learned a lot. Since moving to online this semester, there is a lot of discussion assignments to do, but they aren't hard at all. As long as you do all the assignments, you'll pass. She is really understanding and is really responsive to her students.
The material you will cover in this class is interesting to learn and keeps you engaged in the class, however there is a lot of reading involved but using the main topics on the study guide helps you focus on the important information! It is a pretty easy course
