1) She doesn't know how to use Top Hat 2) She consistently has to be corrected on her math/work & it feels like she doesn't know what she is talking about 3) She treats people like they're in middle school and always has some weird comment to say. Overall, you do learn a lot, but her personality is unbearable. Avoid if possible.
She constantly got math wrong, and deadlines were often way too soon with the amount of work given to you. Some assignments would be 100 questions long and would be due before the lecture was given. I could never trust a word uttered from her mouth, it was comical. She'd breeze through tested vocab. Awful.
I never really met her (online) but the lectures I did watch were awful. For a lot of the semester, the online class and the in-person class did not line up so the lectures and announcements were behind. She just really didn't care about her online class. The textbook readings are brutal.
Required attendance. Wayyy too much homework. Extremely condescending and spoke to us like we were children. The textbook we used was awful. Exam reviews didn't feel like they matched up with actual exam questions. While doing in lecture examples, if nobody spoke up or raised their hand to answer a question, she'd randomly call on someone to answer
She constantly messed up the material and was very condescending and passive aggressive. The concepts are not hard to grasp, but I could not stand being in class even though attendance was required. She didn't make much time for students and when she did it was useless but would basically brag about much time she has. Curves most exams by 5 points.
I had this class online, but the recordings from the in-person lectures are used as the medium of learning. As many of the other reviews have stated, she is very passive aggressive. She made extra credit opportunities for in-person students way easier than for online students. Her in class examples didn't match up with the exam in the slightest.
Natalie Young did a very poor job involving her online students and did not give them a fair chance of extra credit or help. I am going to give her the benefit of doubt because it was her first semester, but it felt like I was teaching myself every chapter weekly.Watching the lectures was a nightmare and trying to understand her problems was worse
Yea your cooked. Get ready to teach yourself all the information weekly taking up about 4-6 hours a week. Trick questions are thrown on exams and her in person lectures are impossible to understand. In no harsh way, I do not know how she is allowed to teach this class.
Youll be teaching yourself everything and its not easy so buckle up. The final is worth 25% and its cumulative and there's infinite material so that's awesome but for the most part if you study the tests shouldn't be a surprise. professor is new and not lenient
I have never gotten below a B in a course, but ACC 220 with Professor Young humbled me. The material reviewed often felt different than what was on actual quizzes/tests. Profesor Young is used to teaching smaller classes, which may be part of the issue. Hopefully she improves with time, but until then, try and take this class with another prof.
These reviews are quite accurate to my experience. I only went to class for the mandatory attendance and passed with an A+ solely by studying the textbook, as the in class lectures rarely instilled the nuances of the content. She often answered questions with incorrect and misleading answers, and led to making topics more complicated than needed.
There are certainly better professors, but she isn't the absolute worst option. Exams were 70% of your grade, so beware of that certainly. HW was long and pretty useless to learning the material. Lectures were either easy to follow along with or questionable whether she knew what she was teaching since she didn't always describe the material well.
Professor Young can only do so much as a new professor with probably over 350 students. Mcgraw Hill exams are not a new concept for Poole majors. Read book, do HW, do practice exams, and make use of your one sheet of notes. This course requires hours of studying for each exam, this is not a new concept. Be disciplined and you will be fine.
You'll have to teach yourself most of the material. You'll do fine if you just completely ignore what she says in lectures. Do the homework, read the textbook, do the reviews.
I feel like she means well and it was her first semester here, but this class was pretty much unbearable. Especially if you don't inherently understand the concepts, the lectures were all over the place and didn't really set us up for success on exams. Just watch the youtube videos posted on moodle of other people teaching it, those were helpful.
Almost impossible to pass. If you struggled in ACC 210 don't take her
I enjoyed how she taught class because she always did in class examples which helped a lot on the HW. She was super nice and she wants to help you if you are struggling. The exams were hard but you just need to study to pass.
I understand most of the negative reviews, but it's an accounting course so it'll always be demanding regardless of the level. I'm an independent person and I feel comfortable teaching myself, so I did well. I spent probably 5-10 hours a week on this class. Work ahead, trust. Never talked to her so I can't comment. Good luck, 1-page notes for exam.
She does not know how to teach effectively. I ended up teaching most of the material to myself. She prioritizes getting class participation way too much instead of focusing on actually teaching us the material. The material itself is not very difficult, but she makes it much harder and more confusing than it needs to be.
It was her first semester teaching here and it showed. Lectures were fast and sometimes all over the place. All of the exams were curved a good amount though. You get a notes sheet for them so be sure to study all of the resources she gives you. HW and SmartBooks are long but can sometimes help you understand the material.
The lectures consist of about half powerpoint review and half example problems. Does a good job of outlining each weeks assignment and quiz due dates. Exams are tough but take the practice exam and make a good sheet and you will be set. Ms. Young gets less credit than she deserves due to lazy students who care too much about mandatory attendance.
I've never had a teacher with so much teaching experience that was so oblivious in her own expertise. She was often contradicting herself in the lectures, making errors and confusing herself in the process of correcting them. When I took problems to her for help, she told me that it was a good question and that she wasn't sure the answer. HardTests
Not a good professor, does not teach you anything and will not give extensions or extra credit. The only way to pass her class is by teaching everything to yourself.
Professor Young is new to NC State, but not new to the accounting field, but you wouldn't know that by attending her lectures. Although she has plenty of experience, her lectures were very confusing, resulting in the need to teach myself all of the material. With heavy studying, a good grade is obtainable, but with no thanks to her teaching.
Do not take her. Non-cooperative does not even have command of what she teaches. Does not care about students at all. Tests are heavy and homework takes forever to finish. I only survived because i mad my own cheatsheets.
Literally awful. Avoid. You will be your own teacher.
No curves, extra credit, or exentations. She is a sweet lady, but her lectures are all over the place. She doesn't know half of what she is saying and often backtracks on her statements. Homework is tedious and very long, and her section is the only one that gives it. Get ready to teach yourself everything for this class.
She has the knowledge to teach the course but spends over 90% of the class yapping about random things. The class is just a gigantic ad for her husband's company Americlean which she never stops talking about. The only valuable skill you learn in this class is teaching yourself all the information after class.
She does not let you have extensions whatsoever. The tests are different than homework and quizzes. We had four snow days at least this year and she still expected us to stay ahead even though we could've had more time to get a good grip on the previous chapter.
Although it may be hard to follow along in class occasionally, she provides sufficient resources to succeed. Accounting is supposed to be a hard course and it is imperative to study independently to succeed, instead of just relying on lectures. Additionally, she makes her lectures entertaining and has been providing curves for the past few exams.
Have yet to see an exam similar to what she teaches in class
Might be the first class I fail. Have yet to see an exam that is similar to the lectures.
Kind, offered some curves on a case-by case basis. However, she moved way too fast and did not take time to slow down. Her first semester teaching 210, lectures weren't the most effective. The hw took WAY too long, often felt overwhelming. Practice exams almost exactly like the tests. This class is gong to be hard, no matter who you take it with.
Enjoyed the class
Shes a nice person but exams make up 80% of your grade even though there are 3 assignments (that take a long time) due every week.
Very nice professor. Make sure you read and complete all assignments. I found her recordings and examples helpful. Use the practice exams that she shares.
Professor Young is a great ACC 210 professor! Accounting is not an easy class, but she explains things clearly and simply and provides many examples. She cares about student success and tries to make lectures fun. Tests are just like class/hw, if not easier. I had no prior accounting experience and I had no problems with acc 210.
Professor Young was caring and fair. She explains things well and provides lots of examples. Take notes before class, do the hw, pay attention, and you'll be fine in her class.
Awful. Just awful. Clearly a knowledgeable lady but doesn't know how to teach to save her life. Homework takes 2-3 hours each week, exams had slightttt curves but only a couple of points. Just a straight yapper who talks too much about her personal life instead of the class. Don't know a soul who got above a B- on a test. Avoid at all costs.
She is so bad at teaching and what she teaches is not similar to the exams. She doesn't seem to care what she leaves behind with her tests and students
She knows the subject but has no idea on how to teach at all. It feels like she is trying to teach us as if we are already accountants and not taking a basic accounting class. Try and get the other professor if you can.
I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews, she is an amazing professor. Maybe just a bit misunderstood.
Professor Young provided great resources. She was always available.
When I think of her I think of Deshaun Watson. Just a terrible, inexperienced, no integrity professor. She sucks at her job
Cares about her students. Fun lectures. She was always willing to help. In lectures she frequently stopped to ask students if there were questions. These negative comments must be from students that did not attend class or complete assignments. You need to put in time outside of class. If you fail her class, you need to do some self-reflection .
I would disregard her previous low ratings, I'd chalk that up to her being new to NCSU and not being lenient. This semester, it was apparent she helped her students out a lot more with curves when needed. Managerial is not an easy class. To do well on tests, utilize the homeworks and optional chap problems on connect.
Overall, she was a OK professor. For ACC 220, I think there was way too much homework involved and the tests were definitely on the harder side. She did her best on helping out when needed, and gave some extra credit as well. The only downside to taking her online is your essentially teaching yourself all the material and it can get difficult.
Difficult class, but the provided materials are extremely helpful, especially the lecture notes. Homework is difficult and takes a long time (part of that is that Connect is weird, and you have to fill out every cell in a sheet individually). Quizzes are also difficult; tests were easy by comparison.
For the amount of non-test work given, it is ridiculous that it makes up so little of our final grade. She moves through material way too quickly. Tests are difficult and only a small curve is given. She does not give good test prep examples in class. Read her emails of else you might miss a random change.
Natalie Young seems like a caring person, but is the most unqualified teacher I've ever taken. Should be a middle school teacher. Try to get another teacher
Natalie is a good teacher just hard to follow sometimes. pay attention in class
Decent teacher just hard to understand the material
Shes a nice teacher and cares about her students. Read the text book and pay attention in class
She's ok the material is difficult.
She's a caring teacher and really wants her students to do well. Just a hard subject matter to comprehend.
Please do not take her. Rarely are rate my professor ratings completely accurate, but for her it's all true. Treats her students with no respect and overall just does not know how to teach the material. Try to get another teacher for your own sake.
Hands down the worst professor I've ever had—she has no idea how to teach and made a difficult subject almost impossible to learn. Her lectures are a chaotic mess. Worst of all, it's painfully clear she doesn't actually understand the content herself. If you value your GPA or sanity, avoid her class at all costs.
Absolutely avoid her at all cost. She does not know how to teach the material and takes her frustration out on the students. Im sure shes a nice woman but as a teacher she makes the class terrible.
Not sure why Professor Young has bad reviews. Her course is one of the most organized classes ive ever seen. She appreciates students' questions. She's a fair grader. I love all the examples she does in class.
Managerial Accounting is tough but professor Young breaks the material down so it's easy to understand. She is a caring professor. She provides alot of resources. Ignore the negative comments. Students need to take responsibility for their learning.
Professor young is genuinely the most passive aggressive and least helpful teachers I've ever take. She treats her students ass if they are less than her and she is condescending when answering questions. All her bad reviews are legit. Try to take another teacher
Really wants her students to succeed. Very helpful and always available.
Don't listen to anyone who says she's good, she was straight up AWFUL. I don't even know if she could be a TA and I am very confused how someone like her got a masters or even a bachelors degree in accounting.
Absolutely the worst professor(if you even want to call her that) that I've ever taken. Does not understand the material and can not teach it. Every class she would end up back tracking because she messed up. Additionally she treated the class like we were in kindergarten and was constantly talking to us as if we were lesser. Do not take her
I really appreciated her communication and willingness to meet outside of class to answer my questions. I really don't understand the bad reviews. She worked a lot of examples in class.
I'm currently taking ACC220 (Summer Term II), and Professor Young provides great materials and resources to learn online. She is quick to reply to emails and is extremely helpful. I don't know her teaching style in person, but I think it's worth taking her online.
I don't recommend this professor if you want to truly learn managerial accounting. Her explanations are unclear and often contradictory. All work is on McGraw Hill Connect, so know the platform well. Her slides help with terms, but for exams, focus on Connect practice sets, not her own materials.
I've heard that ACC 220 was supposed to be the easier accounting class after ACC 210 is out of the way but I fear that I didn't appreciate Bruce's teaching enough as that class required half the effort. She doesnt budge on due dates and class isn't even worth it just stick to the slides and make your cheat sheets for the Exams.
surprisingly, i enjoyed this class a lot (surprising because i hated acc210). i didn't watch any of the recorded lectures, just read the textbook. i have no idea how i did so well tbh. i got a progress report praising me for having an A, so that was really cool.
Young is ok. Sends the strangest emails ever, which are usually just big blocks of text you'll have to comb through to get answers. I did bad on the first exam and my progress report basically just said to study more and turn assignments in on time (which I do, so that wasn't helpful). Do practice problems until your eyes bleed.
Mrs. Young gets a bad rep cause she teaches a hard class, but she is not great at teaching the material at all. She is very nice and likes to make stupid jokes but she still just cannot teach the material that well. Also, apart from the actual material, the exams are extremely difficult. You will spend a majority of your semester on this class.
Managerial Accounting is a hard class. The key to passing this course is to attend class and practice. Professor Young gives students everything they need to pass but as a student you will need to study outside of class. Professor Young is always available to meet outside of class. I wish all professors were as caring as she is.
Let's talk about facts. This professor shows up to class energized. She absolutely goes out of her way to help students. She gives students all the resources to be successful. She made me want to change my major to accounting. I wish she taught more classes. super quick to reply to emails
Very kind, funny, responsive. Takes the time to connect with the class and gives many in class examples. Course is very fast paced, and has tons of material, but Natalie does her best to provide tons of resources. This is a difficult course, put tons of time into it, don't blame the instructor. (if you do well learning on your own, she is great)
Don't let the bad reviews scare you- she is a good professor. Not the best lecturer, but great at working through practice problems in class. Very kind and encouraging, you can tell she really cares about her students. Exams are just like the problem session assignments so study that intensively. Gives you lots of resources to succeed. Just lock in
Natalie tries her best to help everyone understand the material, but at the end of the day, it's a hard course. I used to bash on her, but she's genuinely a good person, super caring, and honestly great to talk to about things outside the material. I've had her for two different classes, and I would definitely take her again. She's good, trust me!
When I registered to take this class I was expecting it to be horrible from all the bad reviews but I actually really enjoyed taking her class. Professor Young really cared about her students and really wanted to help us succeed. She always offered help and gave lots of practice in class and extra resources in the moodle.
Awful profesor. Do not take her unless you want to have a poor understanding of the material
This class was actually horrible. She is terrible at explaining the material and the final exam is huge and cumulative. I would recommend taking at your local community college
Hard class. Be ready to devote hours. Lectures aren't bad. Professor works lots of examples. She is funny and very available outside of class.
Worst professor at NCSU. Does not care about her students. I would go back and take this at the community college and save myself so much suffering. Do NOT take her. Very tough grader and good luvk getting an explanation. Do every single problem or you will fail. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ANY CLASS
This class is very hard. I excelled in ACC 210 and had to really work my butt off to get an A- in this class. She is really nice, but exams can be very challenging. Homework literally takes forever. Also, you have proctored problem session quizzes, which can hurt your grade, although only worth 10%. Not the worst professor, but not the best.
Overall, she was a decent professor. Goes over practice problems in lecture which were helpful. The homework and quizzes seem very disjointed from the tests however since the questions on the test were a lot more difficult and thorough. She really doesn't provide sufficient practice problems for the tests. Everything is through connect.
I didn't study for this class at all, aside from making cheat sheets for the exams bc the material is so boring and mundane. Natalie is a good person which is evident through her tone and the extra credit she offers, but she can't teach for crap.
Took this class fully online, looked at her Chapter PowerPoints & Homework/Practice Problems, & reviewed them for every quiz/test. Exams were VERY similar to practice tests/quizzes. She curved every test and replaced the lowest score with your final exam score. Overall, not a bad teacher and the material isn't hard, just requires practice.
I wrote a review before taking the final... I take it ALL BACK BC WHAT WAS THAT FINAL?!?!?!?! It was so incredibly difficult for no reason. This class is hard exam after hard exam after hard exam man. Get ready to struggle all semester!
I had a good experience with Natalie. She does a ton of practice problems in class which are very similar to the exams. Problem session quizzes are pretty much exactly like the exams. She's also given up to 5 extra credit points on the exams if you show up for a guest speaker, however, exams are not curved. Engaging, personable, and responds fast
