you have to work in her class, but she makes it very clear exactly what you need to do in order to pass the proficiency and make it through the class depending on your weaknesses. i wouldn't recommend taking 102 from anyone else if you can help it.
she is very organized. you know what all the assignments are on the first day of class and when each assignment is due. she is very helpful. she makes the class very interesting by having class discussions about the paper topics. she and a student proof read the paper before its due. easy b/a
I don't know about a lecture class, but avoid her as an internet teacher. She is rude, and unhelpful to learning methods outside of her own.
She is a very difficult teacher. She has 5 papers the whole semester and her class is pretty much all DISCUSSION. she has participation points, and one chance for bonus. Alot of homework in her class. And do not talk to other students in her class because she will jump down your throat."BE QUIET"

Good teacher just expects a lot.
Dr. Whitton is a very good teacher. She is always willing to help her students in any way possible. It really is not a lot of work to do. Only four papers, a midterm, and a final. She gives a lot of homework, but it's an east way to bring up you grade. I would definetly recommend taking for English 102.
She is very unfriendly and fairly hard. She makes me nervous because she is so weird.
This class was sooo easy. I took it over the internet and ended up getting an A. I think her class would have been a whole lot harder if I would have had to show up.
I had her for an internet class and it was really easy and laid back...she did get a little picky for some asignments, but overall, she was a good teacher
If you do the papers and homework its easy...
I took her English 230 on the internet...and it was awful! I would not recommend her to anyone...EVER! Thinking an internet class would be easy, I was wrong. Her weekly assignments are ridiculous and her grading is unbelievably hard! If you have already registered her class...good luck! (You'll need it!)
very good teacher. Her essays are very simple and easy to follow. Homework helps your grade out a lot!
I dont suggest taking her for internet. I passed her class but the few times I have met her she is kind of cold and rude. She expects a lot and forgets that you have other classes. Besides your papers you have a lot of other assignments. My friends teacher was easier. Dont really recommend her.
My friend and I both had her so we could help each other. Let's just say you need all the help you can get. She is overly picky. Nothing Satisfies her. Wouldn't recommend her for the world. Ive had better.
Dr. T is great-my favorite English teacher. I took her for 102 online after trying several other profs, and she not only helped me pass the proficiency exam but took the time to meet with me regularly and answer questions. I took her again online for English 230 and LOVED the class, great discussions. Can't imagine her ever being rude-SUPER NICE!!!
I have never liked English, but Dr. Whitton made it so easy to understand. She helped me with each paper assignment. I have never gotten higher than a C in an English class before, but I had an A at the end of the semester. I couldn't believe it! She is the BEST English teacher in the department. Don't settle for anyone else!!!
All I can say is she is horrible! Avoid her like the plague!!
AWESOME!!!
Dr. Whitton was great. She took so much time each week to help me inside and outside of class. She even made comments on papers that I emailed her and sent them back to help me improve my work. I really don't understand some of the negative comments. What's a Literacy Center?
I had Dr. Whitton a few years ago for English 102. She had to go out on maternity leave for part of the semester, and our substitute didn't teach us anything. Fortunately, Dr. Whitton came back at the end of the semester. I would never have passed the proficiency or the course without her help. She took extra time to make sure I was prepared!
She wasn't easy but she was a good teacher. She is a very smart lady who will help, if you help yourself.
If you are going to take an English course online, I would take Dr. Whitton. I tried a few other professors in the English Department, but they seemed more confused by the technology in the course than I was. Dr. Whitton made the class very clear and was happy to help me anytime I needed it.
Great professor. She is very enthusiastic about the course. Keeps classes interesting -- never boring. She also took a lot of time to work with me individually on my major paper project for the course. Taught me how to read critically. I really think about what I read after this course.
Great teacher. Works hard to help you understand the material. Couldn't have passed the proficiency without her help.
Great teacher. Very helpful. I would take her again.
I changed my major to English after taking Dr. Whitton for 102. She made writing so clear and always had time to help me individually.
Great class. Would highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this class. She worked with me all semester. We met every week to go over my papers, and she helped me to improve all of them. I was not that interested in English, so I am glad that she helped me pass the class.
Dr. W is a great teacher. I had her for 102 online and then 232 online. She was always available to help with papers and assignments. She went out of her way to meet with me on my schedule. I really enjoyed the readings for the online literature class and the assignments. The only problem was getting in -- I was on the waiting list for 2 semesters!
Dr. Whitton was very enthusiastic about teaching us and was always willing to help. She was the most organized teacher I've had. We knew what we were doing every class. The activities and tests always seemed to deal with our essays. They didn't get off track.
Dr. Whitton is a great teacher. She never appears to be stressed about anything, and I can't imagine her putting a student down. She is the nicest teacher I have ever had.
I'm so glad that I had Dr. W this semester or I would probably have failed this class, again. She is so nice and professional. Even though her father was dying of cancer, she never missed a day of class. I just couldn't believe her dedication and willingness to help whenever I went to her office or emailed. Super teacher!
I had her online and it was a great class. She made all of the assignments crystal clear and she gave us unlimited extra credit, so there was no reason not to get an A in the class. I didn't really like reading before the semester started, but I enjoyed the selections that she chose from the anthology.
I had Dr. W for an online English class and she was great. She made every assignment easy to understand, and offered us extra credit. I really learned a lot in the class. I think it is funny that she has negative ratings online and all of them have grammatical errors. I guess if you don't know how to write or spell, you don't do well in her class.
Dr. W was great. I've never had a teacher who cared so much about whether or not I did well in a class. She is so flexible and easy to work with. If you don't get along with her, there is definitely something wrong with you.
Awesome teacher. Always ready to help and makes you feel like there are no stupid questions. I really enjoyed her class and the way that she listened to everyone's opinions.
I would recommend Dr. W to everyone. She is never condescending and always makes the assignments clear. She was so easy to talk to, and I prefer an English teacher who knows what she is doing. I hope that she writes better than me! I failed this class several times before I took her. She is the best!
I'm so glad that I got Dr. W for English 102. I had taken the class and failed the proficiency 3 times before I finally got her. She made everything clear to me, and she was always available to read the rough drafts of my papers. I would highly recommend that you take her if you can get into her classes (which are always full).
I wasn't really a fan of reading before I took Dr. W's online 231 course, but she helped me find something in all our readings to relate to my own life. I appreciate that she pushed me to write a good paper, and to really think about the topic that I chose. Everything in the class is very clear which has not been my experience in all online classes
Very clear as to what is expected. Expect to spend several hours a week reading and writing responses to the works. If you actually bother to try, you should make at least a B.
If you are going to take a literature class online, do whatever you can to get Dr. W. She lets you know all of the assignments at the beginning of the semester and follows a very predictable schedule. You can do extra credit to improve your grade and there are no surprises. Stop by her office -- it is really cool!
Dr. Whitton is a very good choice for ENG102. She is available outside of class and is willing to work one-on-one. Although you do have to go to class, it's not that boring and she is kind of funny, too.
If you are taking an online class at Southeastern, Dr. Whitton is the best choice. She answers email very promptly and makes sure that you are comfortable with the material. She allows you to turn in extra credit assignments and works very hard to help you succeed at the course.
Great class. I learned to really appreciate literature. She tells you exactly what to expect on the tests and gives you plenty of feedback.
I was so lucky to get Dr. Whitton after failing the proficiency under my 2 previous English 102 teachers. I was shipping out the week before finals, but Dr. W helped me to take the test early and complete all of my assignments. I passed! Best gift ever!
Dr. Whitton was one of the most intelligent teachers i have ever had, extremely nice and will help you with anything.
The assignments she gives out is pretty easy but if you really think about it its quite a bit each week. All in all it is relatively about 3 hours a week. 2 entries a week (3 paragraphs) and 6 entry replies (replies of other peoples entries) along with 2 tests. The tests aren't that hard if you know exactly how to do them. Easy!

Awesome teacher - great class. I enjoyed the reading and would highly recommend her.
I had Dr. Whitton for British Literature online. The class is very clear and all of the assignments are provided for you before the semester begins. As long as you do the work, you do well in the class.
Refuses to help students who ask for help. Talks down to students. and don't you dare call her Ms. Whitton by mistake.
She's nice as a teacher but try to talk to her one on one and its a completely different story. And yes, do not dare call her Ms. Whitton on accident.
She is a pretty good teacher. She can come off as rude at times and has a tendancy to not be so helpful outside of class. She also changes her attitude towards people if you accidentally call her ms.whitton..
I took Mrs. Whittons English class online. I was skeptical because it was my first online class. She was GREAT! She told you at the beginning of the week what to do and it was due Sunday at midnight. She was always willing to help with papers or small assignments. The majority of your grade is peer review and papers. We also did a discussion board
I had her for online 231. very easy class. she gives you everything before the semester even starts. offers bonus points. answers emails very quickly. not very nice in person but i never saw her.
As long as you do your assignments and keep up in class, you are fine. She was the nicest teacher that I had this semester. She is never rude unless you are disrespectful. We had several people in class who were just rude. I really don't know how teachers keep their cool, but Dr. Whitton always did.
Great teacher. Let's you write on topics that interest you and is wonderful in one on one meetings in her office. I read some of her negative comments, and I am embarrassed. Really, she judged you for not calling her Dr. Whitton? Get real. If I had a Ph.D., I'd ask you to call me Dr., too. I wonder if she would get these comments if she were male.
I don't really like English, but this was a great class. I met with Dr. Whitton once a week to go over my papers. I've never had more help from a teacher. I am going to take her again next semester for literature and then I'll give you a report on that class. I passed the proficiency and would highly recommend her for 102.
I work full-time and have a family so I took Dr. W's online course and it was great. She posted all of the assignments at the very beginning of the semester so that you could plan your schedule. We did weekly quizzes and postings. As long as you kept up with the work, you did fine. We had one paper to write, and she read all of my drafts. Awesome!
Great class. We were in the classroom 1 day a week and did our other assignments online. Everything was very easy to understand, and Dr. Whitton really helped me to get ahead in my major. She makes everything relate to your specific interests -- awesome!
So, don't be an idiot like me and drop this class. I didn't pay any attention to her policy of going to see her before dropping and it turned out that I had a B. She lets you do a full letter grade of extra credit, so that would have been an A if I hadn't taken myself out of the class.
This class was not very difficult overall. She asks a lot of you but it is all completely outlined for you. She is also very helpful and willing to meet with you outside of class.
Highly recommend her to everyone. The class was very organized and she made learning the different styles of papers a fun process. There is a lot of work in this class, but it is all to your benefit.
Class inst really hard at all just a lot of papers. she gives plenty time to work on them and also helps and provides different sources to help you with the papers. Very clear in the discussions. Also its nice to have a little eye candy.
Best teacher that I have had in English at Southeastern. She takes time to explain everything to you individually which was what I needed. Make sure you visit her office. It is really cool!
Great sense of humor. Very understanding instructor. She let me revise my work and make up assignments that I missed. She really took the time to help me understand "dumped quotes," even when I messed them up over and over!
It was a 2 week course. The grade based on paper and presentation, quizzes daily but not weighted high. I wish there would have been a test instead of a Presentation. It's hard to prepare for a presentation when you spend the first week trying to figure out what you're gonna research.
This was a two week course on the Bible as Literature, and it was great. I highly recommend the course and the professor. Our readings were all from the Bible. We had class discussions and also shared our thoughts online. I really appreciated the fact that Dr. W gave us the time to seek out our own research interests. Great class!
We read through the Bible in this 2 week summer class and had a wide range of students in the course. Dr. Whitton did a good job keeping the discussion moving while giving us an overview of Biblical history and textual criticism. We wrote one paper and did one presentation on that work. I appreciated the way that she stayed after class every day.
She's so easy. A lot of our tests were online. We had to do a presentation and a midterm, those were our biggest grades. Dr. Whitton is easy peasy lemon squeezey.
Dr. W is awesome. Took this class 100% online and she is very helpful. Assignments are clear and she answers emails quickly. Offers bonus and I think her grading is extremely fair. I would recommend her to anyone.
Grades easy, but her assignments are unclear. she is not a hard teacher but never call her Mrs. whitton!!!
She takes the time to talk to you about every assignment and grade. She is very clear, but she won't read the directions to you. Some of the students in my class evidently expected her to read all of the assignments to them which seems silly. So, as long as you know how to read, you will do fine. And go visit her office -- very cool.
I took Dr. Whitton for a special topics course on the Twilight series. I don't know if it will be offered again, but I recommend taking it if it is. At first it wasn't what I expected because we were looking at some of the books and plays that Meyer based her novels on, but it turned out to be a really interesting class. Grading was very fair.
This class is not difficult if you keep up with the assignments. Dr. W has a good sense of humor and keeps class interesting. She is not a difficult grader & asks for your input before she gives you a grade. The only way to mess up is to come to class unprepared.
I had Dr. Whitton for an online class. She is not the warmest individual in person, but a fair teacher. She gives busy work (answer questions on reading assignments a couple times a week) but they are easy. The papers are also pretty easy and unlike other online teachers, she is very available to her class. I would recommend her.
I took her online. It isn't a hard class, or hard material, she just isn't very oganized. You have to look 2 different locations to find when something is due, and have 3 different spots to turn things in. If you ask her to explain something in greater detail, she just repeats herself.over..and over again..giving you the same information!annoying!
I took Dr. W for an online 102. She was super organized. Everything was posted before the semester began so that you could decide whether or not to take the course. She gave very clear instructions for what to turn in. She offered a full letter grade of extra credit. I had heard horror stories about 102, but her class was great.
I took Dr. W for on online English 102 course. She was very clear about instructions and kept all of the course materials in one place. The course schedule provided all of the information that you needed. She was happy to repeat information for you if you didn't read it in the schedule, but it was all there in the first place. Great class!
Great class. The assignments were very well organized and I loved our class discussions. I would have preferred not to do as much reading, but I did learn a lot. I would highly recommend getting to know this teacher. She is very encouraging.
Super organized! Dr. W is very clear about the assignments and you get all of the major assignments on the course calendar on the first day. She helped me to pass the proficiency without any trouble. I also had her review all of my rough drafts in her office. Would highly recommend.
Dr. W. is a god send.First, she is super organized, taking this class online was easy. We had discussion board postings regularly, quizzes, and 4 essays and the narrative, a midterm and final. She will help you as much as you want. Just ask! She gives a full letter grade worth of extra credit if you do the work. She is wonderful! :-) TAKE HER!
Great class. All you have to do is turn in your assignments and ask for help when you need it. She keeps all of her office hours and is open to weekly, standing appointments. English 102 is a tough class, so I recommend taking someone who knows what they are doing. She gives the proficiency exam, so she is who I would take.
This class takes a lot of work. There are a lot of assignments for each week and it I found it hard to keep up with my other classes because I spent so much time working on her assignments. If you are looking for an easy class that does not require much reading or homework do not take this teacher. I took the online class and its a lot of work.
English 102 is a very difficult class. I attempted it 4 times before I was able to get into Dr. W's online section. She makes the assignment clear and easy, but the class is still challenging. She got me ready for the proficiency exam and that is what matters. I wanted to finish the class and pass.
This course involved a lot of writing, but the instruction was excellent. Each week, I knew exactly what I needed to do and how to get help. I took the course online and Dr. W responded promptly to email and posts to the discussion board. I passed the proficiency without any trouble and would highly recommend this course.
Dr. Whitton is so wonderful! 100% online class. She makes it so easy. You only take 2 tests, midterm and final. They are both super super easy as long as you have been doing the weekly assignments. She is a joy to take. She is straight forward with her expectations and same format every week. Answers emails quickly also.
Dr. Whitton posts a semester calendar with due dates, there are weekly assignment & she is SUPER organized. Her 100% online class is easy IF you put the effort into it. I received no less than a 90% on all my papers. I did not finish one assignment, got a 20% and still have an A. Full letter grade of extra credit if you do the work. TAKE HER!
I took this as an online class. She was very disorganized, making you check several different spots just to find assignments. She often sounded condescending in her communications. If you asked a question, she only referenced you back to something else, which often multiple students could not locate. Repeatedly she had an attitude towards students.
I took this class online. It was very clear and all of the material was easy to find. She organized the assignments by week, so you knew where to find everything and what was due each week. She is very sweet and helpful. She answers email promptly and is one of the nicest professors that I have had in college. Highly recommend.
I took Dr. W for both World and American literature. She used the same format for both classes, but I did find the readings in World Lit to be more challenging. Make sure that you ask questions if something isn't clear. Visit her office. Very cool.
I took Dr. W for English 102 online in the summer 2013 term. She was very organized and clear about the assignments. My lowest grade was on the first paper, but she gave me plenty of corrections to work with so all the rest of my essays were fine. She also let me do extra credit to bring up my grade, and she gets back to you super fast if you email
I took her special topics class on Twilight. I had read the first book, but the focus of the class were the novels and plays that Meyer based her series on. I didn't know that Twilight was based on Pride and Prejudice before this course. We wrote in our journals daily and did a few creative assignments. I enjoyed the class.
Really enjoyed this class on the Bible as Literature. We had great, open conversations about the Bible. Everyone in class was respected and had a chance to share their views. We kept a journal, took a midterm and final, and had one major paper. We also did a presentation and had weekly quizzes. Great teacher. Always has time for you!
This professor knows her stuff, but I would prefer to not take her again. I'm a returning student with a family. That being said, when it went to my professor about my concerns she told me as a mother I should just learn to be happy with a C if I can't spend enough time, seriously? I found her a downer, who discourages there student not to do well?
Teacher is okay. She does give pretty good layout of what she wants, but also has an attitude when you have questions.. almost like you are wasting her time even though you need her help. Scheduled appointments with her to have her cancel last minute. Even the writing center had no clue how to help me because of her extreme preferences in essays.
Not a fan. She does give a clear criteria of what she wants on the syllabus, but she's always really too busy for questions. Teacher had an attitude when asking questions. You write a bunch of essays & there is a book to read that you also write on, lots of research & time. Probably usual amount of time put into this class, just a rude teacher.
Took her online and could complete most work in one day. The essays are normal level of difficulty but she is always willing to meet with students. Do this because every essay I got her help on I made an A. She is really helpfully!
Yes, she does come across as having a bad attitude, but I think she's just misunderstood. If you need help, she is there. I took her online 102 and she was pretty clear(for the most part) on what was expected. If you put forth the effort and participate you should have no problem. Don't take 102 if you are taking 12+ hours, though.
I enjoyed taking Dr. Whitton for English 102. She was very clear about the expectations and gave me great feedback. We did write a number of papers, but everyone in English 102 does. I am taking her again for 232 in the spring and looking forward to it.
I took Dr. W for American Lit online. She gave us all of the assignments at the start of the term which was very helpful. I could read ahead if I needed to. We read many authors who I hadn't heard of, but it was a great course! I hope that she teaches 230 in the spring, so that I can take her for that course too!
I had her for 102 online which was challenging, but liked her. So, I took American lit online with her this fall. This was a much easier class. Each week, we read, took quizzes, and discussed what we read. The midterm and final were longer, but she tells you the kinds of questions that you will get on the syllabus. Hope to have her again for 230.
I have taken all of my English classes online and they were pretty easy. NOT THIS ONE. TWO, 300 word discussion posts due weekly. 2 quizzes due weekly. The mid-term was nothing like the discussion posts. Only 2 hours to answer 12, essay style questions. Last question was a 300 word essay. DON'T TAKE HER IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO WORK!
Took English 232 online. Very clear instructions. Everything in on the syllabus from the first day of the semester, including the full reading schedule. She tells you what is on the midterm and the final. The assignments are the same every week, so keep up and you will do fine.
Don't reccomend this class in general. Whitton has journals that are reminiscent of high school and likes papers to be a certain way. Weekly online quizzes are a joke and do not even contain useful information. Tests were alright. Don't take if you actually want to read the Bible as literature. It's a history course.
Dr. Whitton was okay. Her lectures and notes were long (we never ended class on time.) She had us keep everything in a journal, which I liked because it was worth points and everything was in one place. Her weekly short quizzes are tough, emphasis on the word short. You would have 10 min to answer 12 questions from the chapter in the textbook.
I will never take an English class with Dr. Whitton again. Her expectations are extremely higher than they should be in my opinion. She is helpful but is not very clear with her suggestions. If you are a very busy person outside of college do not take her class. In other words do not take any classes with Dr. Whitton.
I enjoyed the Bible as Literature. I learned so much that I didn't know, even though I had previously read most of the Bible. The textbook was tough to read, but the lectures helped me to put it in perspective. I also did the extra Bible readings each week. Study bold words for weekly quizzes. Super nice teacher!
Ah Natasha Whitton... Rudeness and a pompous attitude are not beyond her. Acts like you are dumb when you go to see her. Fails to specifically answer questions over email. Gives tons of assignments, some of which seem far beyond the necessary scope of a freshman level course. She is a relatively easy grader, but not if you don't try. Don't take her
I had her online class. Dr. Whitton is a nice lady and really cares about her students. I think in class she would be great, but stay away from her online course if you don't enjoy forums and discussion boards. She will let you turn in assignments late if you need to and is nice over email and in her office, but you have to ask for help.
I took the Bestsellers class. We read 4-5 books and talked about them in Moodle. She answers email faster than any teacher I have ever had. Cares about how well you do. Answers questions and willing to help if you don't understand something. I hope to take her Bible class when she offers it again.
Online course requires you to do extremely an overload of work. I have taken English 101 before and it was never this complex, currently taking it over for a better grade. You have to do a lot of book readings, class participation and grammar assignments outside of your main assignments. Definitely wouldn't recommend her unless you have the time.
Dr. Whitton should teach high school and leave university level teaching to the grown ups. She is full of herself and brags about her knowledge, but seems very shallow when compared to the other professors. I can honestly say that about 5 % of what I learned in her class actually stuck with me. She does give a lot of extra credit, though.
Dr. Whitton is very straight forward. The assignments are clear. She gives positive reinforcement so that students fell all the hard work they do in her class is noticed. I met with her before each paper was do, and did well on all my assignments. Weekly work was clear and posted in advance. Great sense of humor!
I retook English 101 online with Dr. W to earn a higher grade. She is more fun in the face-to-face classroom, but I liked the clear, online assignments. Would highly recommend. You do have to read and do assignments each week.
I learned so much in this class. The lectures were balanced, but I liked the days when we had group work and the chance to talk to each other. We kept a journal each day that helped with studying. She was always available outside of class to help with our essays. Don't use your cell phone during class!
This is the most by the book class Ive ever taken and it turned out to be one of my favorite! This teacher follows all the rules and I enjoyed her class. The discussions were interesting. The presentation assignment and paper will require some diligent work but if you come to class, participate, take notes and study for the quizzes you'll be fine!
Great class. I took it as a term class rather than full semester. The readings were posted ahead of time. The assignments were clear and I got good feedback. I hope that I can take her for 230 and 231.
Answers emails like a ninja, within seconds sometimes. Always helpful when it comes to your writing. Lots of papers, but that is part of the class. I had failed the proficiency twice before, but she made the expectations really clear. So glad that I took her and made it through 102! Joining her for 232 next semester.
I have failed English 102 twice because of proficiency. I decided to take the class one last time and then give up. For each paper, Dr. W provided me with comments that helped me see what I had been doing wrong. I just found out that I passed proficiency. So glad to be done with this class!
After a year of honors classes, I had not read a single book that I enjoyed until I got to this class. First, we read a book about memory, and then we read a novel, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. The classes are a good mix of lecture, group work, and journal time. We did do presentations. I hope that I get the chance to take Dr. W again.
Dr. Whitton teaches a very enjoyable class that focuses a lot on opinion-based discussions. She does not give overwhelming lectures and makes sure the class is involved in the lecture. She chooses some really good books to read for the semester! The class doesn't require too much work, but you have to read the novels she assigns or you will fail.
I had Dr. W for 101 in the fall of 2017 in an online course. The assignments were clear and she gave me lots of feedback. The weekly assignments helped me to improve my essays. She answers email very quickly and was available during her office hours. I met with her at least once before every paper was due. Great teacher!
Worst teacher I have ever had. Does not give you good feedback. When you change your mistakes on the feedback given its still wrong. I will never take her again.
This class was tough to figure out at first, but once you get the hang of the book quizzes it gets easier. Four books with close-reading quizzes once a week, two papers, and a 15 minute presentation. Fair grader. Class discussions everyday. Finished with over a 100 in this class, so you just have to put in the work and extra effort!
I took English 124 Honors in the summer. We had three major essay assignments and the proficiency folder. I like the readings and the paper topics. Dr. W also said that she was happy to let us negotiate any paper topic, so I wrote a proposal about my job. Answers email like a ninja. Also on Skype and Facebook.
Shes very clear about what she wants. Shes very caring. will give quizzes at the beginning of class. As long as you do your work and read the books, you can definitely do good in class. you have to be disciplined to read the chapters in many different novels.
Great teaching! I learned so much from the books that we read. I had not listened to a podcast before this class. In one assignment, we got to create a podcast which was cool. I would definitely take her again. She answered all of my questions and helped me whenever I was confused.
Dr. Whitton is a solid choice, you just really need to read the syllabus and do your assignments. We had homework that we were quizzed on, but it mainly consisted of short readings and podcasts. I appreciate that she takes contreversial topics and makes them easy to talk about. Not always the most fun class, but the topics are always interesting
There are three papers you write, and with the class being online, the format was always weird when you turned it in. I took this class over the summer, so it was difficult writing a new paper every two weeks. She gives great feedback on the papers; she grades the last paper really fast so you have the option to use it in your portfolio.
Great Professor. But do not take Dr. Whitton for English honors if you are not willing to work hard for an A or B. Lots of readings and a quiz each class period. Tough grader for papers but will proofread your rough draft if you set up an appointment. My papers went from high B to very high A's doing this. Extra credit is offered at the end.
I took this class and passed with a B, but it was an awful and exhausting experience. She does not give any constructive feedback on essays or other projects to make it better, just criticism the whole class. She believes that this class is the only class you should dedicate all your time to, and if you arent making an A, you are failing to her.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had at Southeastern. She assigns crazy amount of homework, she gives hard quizzes every class, and she will hold her personal feelings against you when grading. If you want to suck up to her and spend every night reading out of a textbook take her.
By far the most difficult English course I have taken. You will work to pass this class because her grading is very specific and the quizzes she gives on readings are ridiculously specific. Even if you do the readings, you will probably not pass the quizzes unless you remember every minute detail in the passage.
Quiz every class based on reading details. Journal and participation questions too. Harsh grader. Comes off as uncaring and a little rude. Had to listen to hour long podcasts, read a section in the textbook, and other things for homework for every class. Would not take her again. She is also the department head.
I was in Dr. W's 124 class in the spring of 2020 when we transitioned to online due to COVID. No one dropped the class, but many of the students were horrible. They were rude and disrespectful. After we went online, they started a group text and would trash her every day. I just have to speak up. Dr. W was amazing and didn't deserve that.
She takes things personal and leaves passive aggressive comments on your essay. She assigns ATLEAST one hour podcast each week with two readings a week. Every class you have a reading quiz that most people fail because she wants you to refine your close reading skills. Despite the many countless readings she refines your writing skills tremendously
I would try and avoid her. Literally nothing is good enough for her. She can also be a bit rude and come off as condescending in her online posts. She isn't the best at explaining what she wants in an essay and then becomes rude to the students when we don't understand. She posts a lot which got very annoying very quick.
Professor Whitton has high expectations, but will help you refine your writing skills if you engage with the class materials. Unstuck ai made studying for the frequent quizzes much easier. Tough but worthwhile.
