This teacher is awful

He didn't give any A's on the papers to anyone. He was a terrible teacher, very confusing. Didn't tell you what he wanted. He treated the class like it was a graduate level course. Don't take this class!!!

One of the worst English teachers I have ever had. Like previously stated he is incredibly cocky in all of his feedback and comments. He does not care about his students, and gives no guidance. I would definitely not recommend taking this class as you will be setting yourself up for failure.

STAY AWAY

Definitely don't take the class even if it's your last option. He is an extremely hard grader for an 1102 course. He takes forever to grade papers so expect to find out your grade a month before finals, after the withdrawal deadline. The way he grades isn't helpful and it's hard to know what you need to improve on. Definitely too hard of a class!

This man is terrible. He is such a hard grader and is not clear about the ways you can fix your essays. He will not tell you anything that you did well. When he grades papers, he will not specifically tell you where your error is. Even if you are a decent writer, he will still probably give you a low B

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Nathan Camp grades miserably slow and unbelievably hard. Not sure what I was supposed to learn in that class other than how to complete his daily journals on time. I will admit that he is a fun person in class and is quite intelligent, but don't think he will let you skip class. If you get stuck with him I wish you good luck.

Lots of reading and annotating poems every night between that never get brought up in class. We had 3 papers throughout the semester and he didn't give back a single one until a week before the Portfolio due. Very tough grader on essays and doesn't leave any specific comments. I do not advise taking his 1102 class.

Terrible. If you have the option to take another professor please do. He has the worst attitude of any professor I have ever had and does not care to be here at all. He grades very harsh for no reason considering this is a CORE class and English is NOT my major. He takes forever to grade so you do not know what to improve on for future essays.

If you were expecting to take an English class, think again as his curriculum is more attune to a history class. Ridiculous amounts of academic readings that were seldom discussed in class, an incredibly harsh grading policy (don't expect to see assignments graded often) and little effort to grow students into better writers are my main critiques.

Nathan Camp makes ENGL1102, a graduation requirement, so much more hard than it needs to be. I had a really bad experience taking this class due to the overwhelming amount of work, harsh grading and boring discussions in class every single day. It is so difficult to get good grades on major papers and each essay was 8-12 pages long. Worst professor

Nathan Camp is a terrible professor. There is an absurd amount of work and reading due before each class. We literally only talk about history; we did not learn a single thing about actual literature. For a class that is simply a graduation requirement, he makes it absurdly hard. His personality is also not good. Highly advise not to take him!

You would think that an English class would be English based, but Nathan's class is heavily based on history. He is accessible outside of class, but he will not give good feedback. Also, it takes him forever to grade anything. Basically, only take this class if you're already a decent writer and/or you really like history.

Do not take this class if you want to improve your writing. Not a single grade was given back the entire duration of the semester which would be really helpful in improving your writing. I did not learn a single thing the entire semester and would not take this class unless it is absolutely necessary.

do not take him. he rarely responded to my emails asking for help, and i withdrew from the class because it was late october and he had not put a single grade in. he was fun at first, took us around campus on tours but it was a very journal-based class which i was not expecting. save yourself the stress and trouble for a professor more structured.

Nathan Camp makes this course unnecessarily hard, considering it is not a major class. The assigned reading is rather dense and time-consuming. Considering you may have other classes for your major that require you to perform well, this course basically wastes your time. If you need an easy class and professor, DO NOT TAKE HIM. YOU WILL CRY.

I took this class to meet my first-year writing credit but it was far more difficult than it had to be. We had a journal that had to be kept over the entire semester but got no feedback on it until the last week of class when we had to submit our final portfolio. He was a jerk multiple times throughout the semester. I would not recommend him.

Emailed him about 8/10 times this semester, only responded to me twice. Did not grade my first project until the third week of April. He will give you so much reading to do that he will often forget to cover the material, or run out of time before he gets to a majority of what he assigns. Made english unorganized and difficult for no reason.

I wouldn't wish Nathan on my worst enemy. Not only does he give so much homework every night for no reason, but he also is a terrible communicator. I emailed him three times in the beginning of the semester and now we are 2 week from finals and he has still not responded. He is the harshest grader I have ever encountered and his feedback is rude.

He made ENGL 1102 much much harder than it needed to be. I don't think he realizes it is a core class and he is teaching STEM students too, not just English majors. He told the class he doesn't assign grades higher than a 95. So essentially there is a 5 point negative scale on everything and to get an A you need to fit between a 95 and a 92. Avoid

Professor Camp is a good guy, very sarcastic and annoying at times though. We had lots of unnecessary readings in this class and the annotations were checked. We would read four things but only discuss one. Huge waste of time and paper. Our grades were also shown to some of us during the middle of the semester and some not at all. Do not do it.

Do not take this professor. If you get him switch out immediately he is the worst English professor you could possibly take for English 1102. He doesn't let you know any grades besides the two essays until he submits them for final grade. He is an EXTREMELY harsh grader even if you try your absolute best. Do not take him!

For a literal freshman english class, there is no reason that there needs to be so much work. He had our class reading 1000 page books, he had crazy assignments (had to write an 8 page paper single paced), and if you dont print out readings before class he would mark you as absent. Take another professor they actually do fun stuff.

it is almost the end of the semester and we have only gotten two grades back. he consistently puts out work the day of class but still expects it to be completed (even though he is 20 writing assignments behind on grading). he makes things due 24 hours later and was unsympathetic to a 1:50 deadline on a noon game day. do not take this class!!!!!!!!

He is by far the worst professor I had this semester. Never grades anything, so I do not know where I stand. He gives us so much reading that is not even possible, I'm talking 80+ pages a night. Also, this is a history class, you do not learn anything about English, just slavery. Do not take this class. 4 papers, 25 journals, only 3 are graded.

Not understanding of students at all, gives little to no instruction on assignments and papers and then proceeds to criticize students for not meeting his made-up standards that students were not informed of at all. Kind of just terrible 1/10

This was the worst English teacher that I've ever had in my career. He assigns a writing assignment every class and didn't tell us until the end of the year that they were for completion. We had three big writing projects and he only gave one of them back to us with the grade. overall he just sucks and is rude and sarcastic

Hey guys! For starters, I tried in this class. This is a class where effort does not translate to a better grade. I wrote 25ish journals (each 350+ words minimum), 3 projects (8 pages+), and a portfolio as the final (mine was 25 pages). This man does not grade anything. I got back the grade for only one project. Lol don't take him. Thank me later.

Asshole. This professor should be fired for his work and he tries his best to make you hate your life. He thinks students actually care about english 1102 even though it is just a required class. Bro needs to chill. He is sarcastic and offers little help. Dickhead fr.

Worst professor ever. He is so rude and sarcastic. I emailed him multiple times, and he doesn't answer. His prompts are super open ended, yet he gets mad when the essay isn't exactly like he wanted. I had a meeting with him, and he told me how to organize my paper. I organized it exactly as he said, and he proceeded to give me an 83.

He made this class so much harder than necessary. The other 1102 classes had essays assigned that were half the length of ours and had much more straight forward prompts. Professor Camp never grades any assignments and does not tell you your overall grade in the class until grades are due. If you get him as your english teacher, drop out.

do not take him. We have 5 350 word essays a week. There are like 3-5 readings you need for every single class. They are so hard to read and always like 20 pages. PLEASEEE just take like an elective and then try to take this class with another professor next semester.

Let me start off by saying Professor Camp is a nice guy. He makes this class 100x harder than 1101 should be. I ask all my friends who have other 1101 professors and they all say they do not have 1/4 of the work I do!! Every week there are 5 400 word prompts on irrelevant material. So much reading and homework. DO NOT TAKE HIM. CLASS IS HORRIBLE

Nathan makes this class way harder than it needs to be. There is so much reading and writing that it's impossible to not do homework for this class every night. He is a nice guy, but unless you are someone who really LOVES English, don't take this class

Unless you LOVE poetry and English, do not take this man. The word count in essays was extremely unreasonable, with little time to complete them. If you have this man, get ready for your life to be dedicated to this class.

He is so annoying and gives so much stupid work. I despise this class and advise anyone reading this not to take it. I dont like him as a person or a teacher and this class is awful.

DO ANYTHING TO GET INTO A DIF ENGLISH CLASS. Ive never been more annoyed by a teacher and fed up with the amount of useless excessive work he gives. He talks for the entire class in his voice that makes we wanna rip my ears out cause its so annoying. He goes on and on about such boring stuff and I very much dislike this class.

Genuinely despise this class. It is a waste of my time and I hate his voice.

Literally two essays every week. So much work do not take him.

This guy is great personality wise and is a really outgoing teacher. The problem with him is the amount of work for a core class. Way too much work when handling other classes aswell.

This class just had an unnecessary amount of work compared to other ENGL 1102 classes, mainly the 3000-4000 word research paper that lasted almost the entire semester. Also there was basically no grading criteria at all, so it was confusing and frustrating on the grades we received.

He is very critical of everything, and there are writing assignments every single class. If you say something that is wrong, he makes you feel dumb and we have gotten two grades back and there is a week left of the semester.

It's extremely unfortunate that when signing up for English 1102, you aren't able to see what professor you'll end up with, but I don't think anyone would choose Nathan Camp otherwise. Between the never-returning grades, ridiculously harsh feedback, unclear expectations, and ridiculous workload, all I can say is do not take him.

he is the most insufferable person on this planet. so many essays and papers. made me cry weekly. extremely cocky. i took this class because it was my last option, but i regret it so much. the amount of pain this class gave me..... he tries to overexplain things and it does not make sense. he should not be a professor

Most homework and reading I have ever had; more stress than O-Chem. Graded on VERY FEW things and feedback is USELESS (sparse!) but grading is not too tough. Discussion posts due with no notice (half the stress, I missed 2). 90% of feedback is peer reviews 90% of class is lengthy group discussions, he can make you feel dumb. Only sports analogies

Most insufferable person ever. Took this class because it was the only one with spots left and I can see why. Everyone I talk to in this class has the same things to say about him. He is rude and it's honestly scary going to him for help because all he does is bash you and tell you why you're wrong. Long boring lectures, never lets us out on time.

Very rude in his comments - being harsh isn't the same as being insulting. Doesn't give the same respect to students as he expects for himself.

He assigns writing and major projects on holidays (EX: labor day and halloween). Journals get zero credit if they're a minute late. He grades your work like you're a English major when everyone in the class is will most likely not take another English course. I spent $30 on printing readings to annotate. He lectures for the entire period aimlessly.

He gives way too much work for an intro to English class and the end of term paper is ridiculously hard, expects you to write as a scholar your first semester of college. Ridiculous amount of homework, thinks he's prestigious and not helpful.

He takes attendance and assigns homework every class, but we just sit there and listen to him aimlessly talk the whole time. He grades harshly but isnt always clear about his expectations because majority of feedback is peer reviews. And his feedback is just rude. You also won't know your grade. I hate it.

I learned valuable information and my writing skills improved, but this does not excuse his teaching methods—obscene amounts of reading and writing. Not to mention, making us kill whole trees to print papers. Nathan is generally insufferable, making this prerequisite class harder than almost any other class you take. He also gives harsh feedback.

there's a difference between criticizing a student's writing and criticizing the student themselves as a person. this prof crosses that line every single time he gives feedback. he's chronically mean. and absolutely destroyed my writing self confidence. he took points off my big essay just bc he didn't like my topic. do NOT take his class.

1st time writing a review for a prof- anyone taking Camp be prepared to dedicate multiple hours per week for this class. He assigns chapter annotations nearly every class or discussion/ journal entries (or both). The workload for his class is far too much for a required english class. He grades harshly and he always talked in a condescending tone

He's mean when students ask questions, you can only write exactly how he wants it, he talks so much it usually takes up class time, and he's only let us out on time TWICE this whole semester. Usually goes 2 -3 minutes overtime, don't take him if you have back-to-back classes. Work is harder than other 1102 classes

The people who said others were being dramatic about him are lying. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Camp himself just trying to get his rating up. DO NOT take this class. Wait till next semester if its your only option

tell me why he gives us 12 journals, 2 topic proposals and an annotated bibliography done and refuses to show us the grade because he "doesn't want to show the grades before the withdrawal deadline". So you won't even know your grade AFTER the withdrawal deadline so if you end up doing bad on your previous assignments just start rethinking life.

Very awful prof. Has readings due before every class for a grade. Also has mandated attendance, 4 absences and your grade drops 3 percent every absence. Doesn't care if the absence is needed (medical, religious, etc). Makes this feel like I'm a PhD student rather than an undergraduate student taking an INTRODUCTORY class. AVOID!!!

Genuinely the worst professor you can take for this class. Take it online at another school if you can't get another teacher here. Very know it all, arrogant, uptight and condescending. Pretty much if a substitute teacher had real power. Bc this guy is not even a professor just an instructor. Grades harshly, treats everyone like an English major.

A professor to stay away from. No idea of class grade until the withdrawal deadline. Gives out more work than multiple STEM courses combined. Every class period has 10+ page's of annotations and /or 350 word journal entries required prior to class. Assignment deadlines are weird, such as 8 or 9pm
