Excellent. Clear, Consice lectures available on the web all at the begining of the semester. is sometimes on 'crusie control' with his lectures cause he taught the class so many times, but that dosn't mean that you won't learn.
Good teacher for the intro class - has taught many times before, so knows where the pitfalls are. Learned a lot in the class.
Decent prof. Talks a bit too fast. Powerpoint gets boring, should just stick to posting the info from the powerpoints as notes online and keeping with diagrams and examples in class while explaining the subject. Both labs (2110 and 1102) are pointless
Everyone has talked about lectures, so i'll talk about how cool he is. He has lots of great stories from his years in the field. He shows 2 very interesting DVD's during the class, and for the final review before the exam he has promised pizza and pop.He also once bought his wife a computer case with an airbrushed diablo on it and his case has LEDS
Excellent teacher. Great guy.
This dude is the BEST!!!! What you get on your final can be your final grade...it's helpful when you sleep in class!
He is the best professor ever. His lecture is well organized. He always prepared in advance before coming to the class. Dodge has a lot of knowledge and knows where the pitfalls are. I wish all professors are like him.
he does not use black board.
i don't like him since he never used black board. he just explained everything and showed slide which makes the class boaring. he never solved any problem in class. he just wrote down the anewers besides the problems from worksheet which he posted at his website;
Great professor! Well organized lectures, associated review problems and homeworks that cover exactly what is on the test, no extra junk. Final Exam grade and replace a lower semester grade if so desired!
By far the best teacher at UTD, take him for any course you can.
Easy. I got 100's on every lab report I wrote and it took me like an hour to do each. Easy class, great guy. He's very friendly and willing to help.
Lectures can get a little boring since he just goes over what he has on his Powerpoints, but he explains very well in class and during office hours.
Excellent, excellent professor. His lecture slides are WAY better than any textbook. I never opened a textbook, in fact, and walked away exempting the final with an A+. Always extremely helpful one-on-one in his office or after class.
Class was a bit challenging at first, you really have to study a couple of times a week to pick up on it. His explanations in class make sense, however, and he's always helpful in his office hours. Just believe me when I say you have to study, I went from a C+ at midterm to an A+ final grade.
This is a great professor. I thought the difficulty of this class was good. It was not easy but not impossible. You have to go to class to take quizzes but if you are an EE major, you should want to go to his class. He is very helpful and his lectures relate to the real world.
He was my best professor since coming to UTD. The class material was never meant to be easy but if you pay attention and don't ask stupid questions you will more than likely succeed in his class. Don't ask stupid questions or you will receive his wrath. Think before you speak. One on one he is the best professor I have had in my college career.
Very helpful during office hours and a nice teacher. Also funny!
Great professor! If you don't understand something in class, he's more than willing to go over anything during office hours. Tests are a little tough but he has nice reviews and always curves the tests. He also gives opportunity for extra credit which comes in handy. I wish he taught more classes at UTD
This class is definitely a blow off class and generally sucks, but Dr. Dodge is a great professor. He's very helpful, grades fairly easy, and has a great sense of humor. I am retaking him this upcoming semester and would recommend him to all EE majors.
Excellent. Easily my favorite professor on this campus. Will dedicate his time and talk to every student that is interested. Constantly says "People who come into my office are the one's who I remember", so I suggest going to his office hours for a deeper understanding if you're confused and want to do well :)
Great professor. My success in his class and the concepts we touched on have helped me tremendously in upper level courses. He makes the material seem very easy, assuming you're willing to put forth the small effort to learn what he's teaching.
Though I made an A, i didn't learn anything and I'm scared what will happen in 2310. The only thing i regret is that he goes really fast over the labs and you don't understand anything, you're pretty much on your own !
Excellent teacher, covers the material well. Very helpful when available(his office hours are normally pretty crowded).
This guy is great. He speaks in a clear language. He goes a little fast, but his slides are available online to review. Do the recommended readings in the syllabus!!!! It is a must. Test are fair. If you don't get it, go to his office hours.
1202 is a weed-out class more than anything, so don't worry if you don't absorb the lab information-3320 and 3301 will more than cover it. 2310 is fast, but study his slides and make sure you understand it conceptually and you will do great. Dr. Dodge is a great Professor and if you apply yourself in 2310 you will breeze through 3320.
I wish Dr. Dodge was my professor for every class.
"If you weren't smart you would be off in the business section "
Fair professor, lots of experience, office hours are mandatory to understand material, lectures are extremely fast so visit him during office hours. He's full of stories, so allow lots of time during office hours. Very helpful, wants you to succeed, but you need to put in the effort.
Pretty good professor. You MUST attend his office hours. His grades are completely based on his exams, if you fail the first two, you still have hope on the last one. Pass the last one and you'll pass the class (maybe with an A). Best suggestion for this class is study your butt of with the first two exams, so the final is exempt.
Always enthused about the subject, fair grades.
Awesome guy. Really fun to listen to and tells the occasional joke. You can tell he loves what he is doing.
11011011 and then not x not 10 11 becomes 1001 not x not y after which 1 goes to zero and the clock goes high which sets t to zero and then q is 1. It's very simple really.
Great professor. Pay attention to his lectures and read, and you'll be fine. Very helpful.
If Dr. Dodge taught all my EE courses, this degree would be a breeze. The guy loves what he does.
He's a really good professor. He knows exactly what he's doing and the expectation is always clear. In the lower level courses, like this one his grading is really easy. If you do the work you'll get an A, and he gives you plenty of opportunities for success. Highly recommended.
Easy course since this guy knows what he is doing. The labs are step by step and very interesting. He expects good quality work and gives you a good grade for it. One of my favorite professors at UTD.
Useless lectures. Just talks so fast and expects you to understand everything by reading 2 books (at least) most of the time. It's not like we had another classes to focus on. That's why he gives bonuses and huge curves
Good guy, very helpful. His lectures are a little confusing at times, but he allows a cheat sheet on tests.
Super easy class. If you don't get an A, you did something wrong. I believe he writes the labs, so there are typos and missing information. He thinks everyone has taken high school physics, so if you haven't, you might be a little lost. Overall good teacher, but I wish there was a book.
Goes by too fast on lectures. Posts notes online but doesn't post many worked examples, & the notes can be difficult to understand. Office hours are a waste of time: Too many people, & he digresses a lot. In the 2 hours allotted for office, you may get one, max two questions answered. Assigned book for assembly language programming ISN'T helpful.
Dr. Dodge is a great professor. His course is fast-paced but he makes things very clear and is very fair with grading. Probably one of the best professors at this university.
Dodge was a easy teacher. He let's you bring cheat sheets for your test and he does a review. He even exempts people from his final. Highly recommend!
EE 2310 is an information-dense class that covers three separate subjects. Dr Dodge provides powerpoints, lectures, an open lab, a good lab manual, test reviews, test question examples, and recently sponsored an IEEE Student Chapter learning center for his class and all EE students. Not the easiest material, but a good professor.
He is a very good professor. He goes through extremely fast during lecture, but he will explain them to you during his office hours. His exams are somewhat hard but he curves them. If you understand and do the HW, the exams won't be that bad.
labs are basically a completion grade. dodge lectures very fast.
The labs are easssy 100's. Dodge likes to talk about himself alot and his past students. Smart guy.
Also took for 1202. Dodge is one of the best professors in the entire school; he's always enthusiastic and happy to clear up any questions. Office hours are great. Tests are moderately difficult, but not terrible. Keep an A (or B+ some semesters) average, then you can skip the final (which isn't as bad as it's made out to be).
Dodge gives tons of extra credit, so if you make a dumb mistake on the test, the bonus pts can still get you a 100. Goes really fast in lecture but just study with friends and you'll be fine, or go to IEEE center to get help from tutors. Entire course is based on sequential and combinational logic, with assembly programming at the end.
Just study off previous exams and you will ace the tests. He lectures at a fast pace.
The best teacher for digital systems, take it before he retires! very kind and helpful professor, only con is that he likes to talk FAST. Kind of assumes we understand when he speeds through the slides, but just go over the slides once again after class to understand. Tons of extra credit, its up to you to do them however. I respect him a lot
I absolutely love this guy. He's funny and makes a usually boring subject pretty entertaining. He gives lots of opportunity to do extra credit for those who need it. Labs aren't very clear but then again the grading for labs is easy too so you aren't heavily penalized for incorrect answers. Absolutely recommend him for both 1202 and 2310.
Probably one of the best teachers at UT Dallas, take Dr. Dodge if you have the opportunity. He builds character and work ethic in his students. Tests are difficult and he does throw curve balls but he offers so much bonus points especially towards the end of the semester that make an A very feasible. Do well on the first test! It is important.
Absolutely loved him. The class was difficult but he kept it interesting and made sure you had plenty of help along the way. He usually curve tests and if you had an A+ before the last test you could choose not to take it. There are tons of extra credit opportunities too if you need them.
Dodge is great. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities, his lectures are clear and he posts all of his notesslides on his website. His tests are challenging, but doable if you keep up with the material and attend class. Best part of the class: if you have an A average and have turned in all the assignments, you don't have to take the final.
TONs of extra credit. Tests are somewhat difficult but looking at old tests helps a lot. Do the homeworklabs, study a bit before the tests, do all the extra credit he offers, and you'll get an easy A.
If you don't go to class you'll have to do something crazy to understand the material. Dr. Dodge is great and all, he's brilliant, knows his stuff and makes jokes that you'd understand and even laugh to. Only downside is when he gives his lectures he sounds like an 18th century western auctioneer. Don't understand how he talks so fast sometimes.
Dodge is GREAT. Show up in class, put in the effort required in the homework and you shouldn't really even have to study for exams. Just make sure you understand the material and don't just get the answers. Labs are interesting and don't feel pointless... He also replaces your average with your final grade if it is higher, so that's a huge plus!
If you've never heard about any of the material before taking this class, things may be difficult for you. He's a nice guy no doubt, but he's not the best at explaining concepts. He's so smart that he doesn't understand why people don't understand the concepts he's teaching even though its an intro. Do the HW, and relearn concepts on your own.
Dr. Dodge is a great guy - you can tell he's really passionate about what he does. Unfortunately, he suffers from the usual pitfall of speaking at a higher level than what most students can handle, and it can get really difficult to follow really fast - considering the material compounds on itself. Definitely easy to pass - just pay attention.
Best professor I've had so far at UTD. His lecture power points are extremely useful and he explains each important slide in depth. Print out his power points before each class. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities, but he will make you work for it. The programming aspect for this course is pretty tough, but gives a lot of examples to help.
He's a really cool guy. There is a substantial amount of material to learn, but if you study, do the homework and always attend class, you'll be set. His lectures are to the point, helpful and clear. There are homework assignments due every few weeks but they are easy if you pay attention in class. If you don't attend class you'll probably fail.
Dr. dodge is a great professor. He does tend to fly through the material quickly, so make sure to review the ppt notes. He offers tons of extra credit to help pad your grade. ieee test reviews will help you.
Make an A average on the 1st 2 test and you are exempt from the final. Go to the IEEE center and they can make his rushed lectures really clear. Dodge is an amazing professor and if you dont make an A in this class, you need to reconsider if college is for you. Only professor to teach this. So I am writing this to tell you to go to the IEEE tutors.
You can easily tell that he cares about what he is teaching. He makes himself available very often to students who need him, as well as arranging weekly study sessions led by his TAs.
-MUST go to IEEE review sessions before the exams (exact same as exams) -A lot of extra credit homework to make up missing grades -Tough, but if you go to IEEE at SPN for every homework, you will get an A -do well on first 2 exams and get exempted for final -do well on final and replace your final grade -very good professor
He is a very very nice and good professor, but his class was definitely not an easy class. There's homework AND lab (not to mention hour long lab reports) every week, but he's there to help and if you work hard, you will pass for sure. MUST GO TO IEEE TUTOR at SPN. Without their help, I would've failed the class.
Favorite professor at UTD
Dr. Dodge is definitely the best professor I've had in an engineering course. He knows his stuff and gives many extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Although the class can be very difficult at times, if you do all the assignments and attend IEEE, you'll do well.
This is a very good professor who offers many opportunities to get an A in his course. You'll have to work for it though. If the content doesn't make sense at first, he is easily accessible and will gladly help you understand.
Dr. Dodge is a great teacher. He is kind and considerate. He does his best to make the material interesting. I HIGHLY recommend going to office hours. He is always happy to help, and he has great stories. He teaches the material well.
Comes off harsh at first, but he's actually rather helpful. Lectures can be a little confusing at times due to time constraints but he's always available to answer questions. My only critique is that he takes off a lot of points on tests for mistakes. Just pay attention and go to his office if you need help. Also the last review comes with pizza!
You get out of this class what you put in. Yes it is helpful making friends and going over old exams but figuring the work out and being able to do it for yourself is the only way you are going to pass. Dr. Dodge is super helpful so utilize him at every chance. Do the extra credit, and dont wait till the last minute to start your homework and labs.
Dodge's powerpoints are long and not always extremely helpful. They are super colorful, but definitely word heavy. He is one of those professors that hasn't quite moved into the next century in a way; a sweet old man though. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, but you need to attend class to receive the extra credit.
Professor Dodge is a knowledgeable person; however there is a lot of material in this class that he has to rush through in order to finish the course. If you zone out for 5 seconds during the lecture, you'll be completely lost. Secondly, because of this constraint, he doesn't emphasize the things he will actually test you on. GO TO IEEE REVIEWS!
Great person. Funny sometimes. Goes through slides very very fast and packs alot of information in. Go to the test reviews if you want to pass. Allows a cheat sheet on exams. If you're final exam grade is higher than your class average he will make that you're final grade. There's also opportunity to be exempt from final. Very well known professor
Dodge is notorious for going through content very fast, his slides are often not very useful and it was only IEEE Tutoring/Review Sessions which got me through his exams. However, Dodge is a real character and has great passion and enthusiasm for teaching engineering and him sharing his personal experiences made going to his lectures worthwhile.
EE is a difficult subject so do not expect a walk in the park and Dodge has been teaching the subject for so long he has trouble relating to students at times but he will help you if you put in the effort.
Professor Dodge is a brilliant Teacher. His lectures are a bit fast and he covers a lot of material in one lecture. He provides lots of opportunity of Extra Credit which includes Exercises, Test Review, Bonus Homework and bonus questions in Exams. Although the course material is hard the extra credit along with the helpful IEEE review makes it easy
Dr. Dodge is a great guy but he often struggles to explain the concepts in a way students will understand. Read and reread lectures/utilize IEEE and you will do well! There's lots of opportunities to raise your grade so take advantage. Despite the difficulty of the course 2310 was my favorite class and it inspired me to change my major to CS
Dodge is a professor like no other. He really cares for his students and is very passionate about his subject. Lots of extra credit opportunities, and if you're doing well enough, you can be exempt from the final exam. The only difficult assignment (personally) was the final semester design project.
Very good professor. He explains concepts really well and always answers questions. He is also available for office hours where you can get your questions answered. Overall, the projects and homeworks are very helpful in understanding and learning the concepts.
Dodge is a remarkably good guy and you'll learn a ton of useful stuff in this class, but I found the lectures to be useless, the labs to be tedious, and the exams to be difficult. I recommend skipping class and just skimming the slides and watching Youtube vids covering the material if you take this class.
Great Professor! One of the best professors I have ever taken. The class is definitely hard but you can do it if you work hard. His slides are the best resource.
He is an amazing professor no doubt, however, he is even better outside of the 100 student class setting, so I highly recommend going to his office hours. Plus, he is also really funny if you try to get to know him. Lastly, don't skip class because if you do I can guarantee you that your chances of understanding the material become very slim.
He is the best professor I have ever taken. Make use of all the information from his lecture slides. It has lot of information. Try to give your best in first and second midterm exams. you might be an exception for the final exam. This course prepares you with the best outcome for stepping onto higher-level course computer architecture.
Daddy dodge is quite a guy. He definitely lives in the last century when it comes to tech and his lectures aren't the most helpful but as a professor he's quite fantastic. He really wants to help you if you go to his office hours and he's super chill
If you're losing hope at the beginning of the semester, don't. You can replace your overall grade with whatever you get on the final. TONS of EC. He makes it so easy to get an A+. His lectures don't make a bit of sense but if you hang out in IEEE tutoring, you'll be fine. Very Republican, but such a sweet old guy.
Dodge was fantastic. Shame he's retired now. He handed out extra credit left and right and really made sure you knew the material. Labs can be tough because the hardware we used was awful but I learned so much from him
Good professor. Available whenever you need help. Shame that he is now reiterd
