He loves to say "hell" alot and loves to talk about sports. so if you enjoy that type of thing then he is your man. he is very nice and really easy to get along with.
He is a fun teacher, and talks a lot about football which is cool. BUt his class was not easy, I dropped it and took it with another teacher which was way easier.
this guy is hilarious I took him way back in the day like 2002 but hes a riot all of his crazy stories and plus if you are a girl he will be all easy on you and a lot nicer, if I showed up late I was busted but this hot chick would always walk in late and he would just say hi to her.
Everything you hear about this guy is true and you'll find yourself laughing about something he said a year later. He is a classic. Plus a lot of good lookin girls in his class being a core class guys.
funny as hell,, easy with tons of fun restraunt extrra credit. this dude is halarius and always tell badass stories
pretty easy class, he knows how to keep your attention you can get away with a lot in this class as far as what you think and not be wrong
VERY GOOD PROF...highly reccomended! If you listen in class, you will do well
Great professor! He keeps you interested, and you will learn a lot. Make sure you take notes, study, and do his reviews. Also try not to miss class, because it will hurt you.

The man is a badass take him best class you will ever have!!!
This man is sooo cool. He is very indepth in class. The only thing is that he really doesn't do a lot of writing on the board, so you have to pay attention to him when he lectures. Otherwise, he is the best professor I have EVER HAD! Would def. recommend him to anyone!
Mr. Giesenschlag is the a very cool teacher...and nice to look at!lol If you listen, pay attention, and take notes you will do just fine. I had not had Texas History before and learned alot of extra stuff for him.
He seems cool at first and his lectures are good, but if you have any problem he does not care about students AT ALL. He completely screwed me over and dropped me without telling me and didn't care at all when i came to him to try and fix HIS mistake. BE ON TIME TO CLASS, you are counted completely absent if you walk in after he has called your name
Cool in class, but a jerk if you have any problems. Grades very hard
He's a very good teacher. Doesn't write on the board so be attentive to his lectures. Super funny. Mildy fair test.
This is one of the hardest teachers. If you miss class, you HAVE to get notes from someone else or you will fail that test. he does not care about any of your problems or questions. and he grades very hard on papers if you do not agree with him and is very strict on grammar. His test are extremely hard & he never tells you what to read in the books
Good teacher and gives curves everynow and then. Make sure to pay attention to what he lectures bc there are no handouts or reviews.
No homework, just tests. It's like listening to a guy tell interesting stories all day
show up to class every time, if you miss one class that will mess you up on the tests. Pay attention to him, he grades hard. He can be funny at times, if you do need help, good luck, he is no help at all.
He is willing to help you, but he is a very different professor, with a very different way of teaching, he talks about things that you would never think matters like guns and how people were killed, he doesn't use power points and his method of grading papers is opinion based, he is hard but if you try and study the notes you take you'll be ok.
Wonderful!
he is... interesting.. and i dont mean that in a his lectures are interesting kind of way. he's a bit odd. he does a good job of making lectures interesting but when you dont care about history it is still going to be boring. his tests are probably about 90% lecture and 10% book. so write down everything he says. the tests are not easy!
he does a good job of making the subject interesting, i think he's really funny. He makes an hour and fifteen minute class go by quick. Tests are easy if you take good notes and study them
Although rather eccentric, he really does know what he is talking about, and conveys information easily and thoroughly. In my class, all exams were essay-style, and we wrote a research paper in Turabian in 1302. This is a lecture class, listening intently and taking good notes is a MUST. The book is useless. Use the internet for other needed help.
Great teacher!!! He is really excited about teaching History, and he knows what he is talking about!! You definitely have to go to class and take NOTES, all he does is talk and tell you the info and sometimes write it on the board, just pay attention and you will be ok! Overall, a really fun and enjoyable class.... I learned a lot!!
He has a lot of personality and all of his lectures are actually interesting. However, what he lectures on isn't always what you need to study for the test. He talks about a lot of random stuff that doesn't really coincide with the section we should be learning. But, regardless, he is a very good professor and I'd take the class again.
Any prof that gives movie review essays as extra credit is okay in my book. Also, he tends to focus on (and take delight in) the grosser aspects of history (graphic descriptions of bloody battles, etc.) Sometimes he comes off as odd and generates an uncomfortable vibe over the class while lecturing-- but it works in that you remember the lecture.
I took post-civil war with him. Great professor! I highly advise taking him because he certainly DOES NOT teach from the book and therefore makes the class interesting. He lectures and tells you about the dirtier sides of history and REALLY goes in depth. He gives reviews for tests and the final was so easy!!
You will know exactly what to study for the test. Read what he lectures on. You can get away with skimming. Do the extra credit assignment, it's so easy. Pay attention and take notes and you'll do fine.
I loved this class and the way he taught it. He makes the class interesting with his side stories and comments (that are still related to the material). He doens't read straight from the book and he is very into what he is teaching which makes you interested. He was my favorite teacher of this year and I plan to take my next history class with him.
What I wasted money on a book.. He gos all over the place droped after 1st test. Did not like his style of teaching
He is a very tough grader. All of his tests have atleast 75 questions that are unclear to his lectures and atleast one essay question. He does not use ppt, he just lectures the entire time and expects you to have all the information for the test. there is no daily work to help you bring up your grade. its just tests.
He was such a great teacher! If you correctly take notes of what he says you should be fine during the exam. He uses the textbook mostly for the essay part of the test. He has such great sides story to keep you interested by the material and if you do the extra credit he gives you, you should end up with an A or B.
He's great if you like lecture classes. I have his 8 week course, he talks the entire period and never used a book, only do to study. Makes things interesting with weird facts
Professor Giensenschlag is a very good teacher. His class is 100 percent lecture which can make it difficult. The course will challenge you but the final exam is a lot easier. He offers extra credit which can have a big impact on your grade. I ended up with a B in his class. I hate history before this class but it was one of my favorite classes.
He is horrible. Doesn't use notes and goes off the top of his head, so when you get to the test there's so much on there that he forgot to go over. He likes to pick people out and make fun of them. Tests are long and hard. He is an interesting character but does not know how to teach a class. Just uses a bunch of weird stories.
100% lecture- I found it convenient to take notes on my laptop. My favorite and most memorable professor! Took his 8wk course and made it by without the textbooks. I would definitely recommend- not the easiest class but the most entertaining. The way he lectures makes you remember!
I loved him! I loved taking his class he's very funny and silly. Not intimidating at all. His notes don't really make any sense at all... But he grades pretty easy. He gives plenty of opportunities to make a good grade! You have to get the text books. If i would of read more I probably would of done better on tests. Overall great guy.
Great guy! He makes the lecture more of a story, which is great! The tests are difficult, and you'll need to study a lot! It's not a blow-off class!
He is an interesting character. His lectures are interesting but are mostly off the top of his head and are stories about random things. If you miss a class it's difficult to understand what you miss because the stories he tells aren't in the book. Would only recommend to those who have a good background and knowledge of history. Very conservative!
Mr. Giesenschlag was a great teacher for US History. I took his Summer course. Made an A. His tests are 85% lecture based. But textbook reading is also required if you want to make an A. Very conservative but lets you know what you need to know for his exams. Also he has great side stories that correlate with the lessons. Will take him again.
Great, lecture based teacher. Take him if you want to knock out your history 1301 credit. But DO NOT SKIP class. He doesn't appreciate tardiness or absence. Overall he is a good teacher and if you study your notes well and read the textbook you will make an A or high B.
Great guy and even better professor makes you feel comfortable in class
By far the best professors I've ever had. His lectures make me interested in history. He's hilarious, makes you want to come to class. And make sure you come to class, he takes a participation grade that can help your final average out a lot. He gives you everything you need to study for the test. Highly recommend taking him!
Tests are more difficult than you think they will be. This is a lecture based class and you have to go. His stories are interesting but he does tend to go off topic a lot.
Very interesting lectures. He made me want to listen during class which made the test pretty easy. If you don't come to class or take notes you will probably fail but if you do both, you're good to go.
He was an amazing prof! I don't care for history too much but he made it fun! He is completely lecture based and textbook based. If you miss a lecture, you are kinda of screwed. I highly advise writing the essay and do the extra credit before the class gets too crazy. Overall, he was a great prof! I would definitely take him again!
love this class. Professor Giesenschlag is hilarious!! Love his lectures. He is so animated and obviously loves history.
His lectures are just that-lectures. No powerpoint or notes or anything. If you want to do well, attend class regularly. However, he is very engaging and interesting. His class has by far been my favorite this semester!
He is a funny professor and really likes to involve the students. He mostly lectures and doesn't write anything down, so it is best that you do or you wont pass. There are only a few tests and if you don't listen to the lectures, you will fail.
He is a great professor! All professors need to be like him. He is funny and keeps you interested. Make sure you do the assigned reading for the tests! He does not joke when he says they are the "bread and butter" of the tests! There are between 1-2 short essays on every test. He will help you understand something if you don't get it.
I took his US History I and II classes and they were so enjoyable. Three tests which are tough if you skip or don't pay attention in class. 1 essay which he gives at the very beginning and isn't due for months which is nice. He brings history to life and tells you interesting things about the subjects. LOVED HIM WOULD TAKE AGAIN!
Loved him. 2 short essays for every test, but they're easy to answer. If you don't come to class & take decent notes, you won't do well on tests. You have to read for his short essays/tests! But his lectures are interesting & easy to follow. Gives major extra credit & one essay. Gives reviews for tests, but doesn't use ecampus for anything.
Seriously love Giesenschlag so much. His lectures are super interesting and he is really funny. If you take good notes, do the assigned reading, and go over his reviews, the test should be simple. Two short essays on every test, but he gives you the potential questions before hand and there are always bonus points. I would take his class again!
He tests based on lectures. Assigns reading, too, which is important. This semester, he has had short answers on the test as well as multiple choice questions. One of the tests even had a short answer question, an actual essay, and multiple choice, too. Expect to study and LISTEN. Do the reading. And maybe practice writing a lot in only an hour.
One of my most favorite classes I have taken yet!! Giesenschlag is a great prof who has a passion for the subject. Come to every class, take good notes, read for the tests, and enjoy.
He is the best professor I have ever had. He makes history interesting to all people (even if you hate history). He cares a lot and has a great sense of humor. His classes are lecture heavy but thats okay if you take good notes you will do fine on the exams. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! It helps your grade a bunch. 3-4 exams and one paper, no busy work.
By far the WORST teaching experience I've ever had throughout my 2 years of college. He is all over the place throughout his lectures, does not do anything online; so you never know your grades, NEVER responds to emails, and his tests are extremely difficult because they are strictly from the notes you take from his horrible lectures.
Professor G was a great professor. He really has a passion for what he's teaching. His lectures were interesting and he was very funny. His lectures were in story form so he kept you focused and by teaching this way he made remembering the information much easier. He does have difficult tests and he makes you write a very difficult research paper.
He is very passionate and what he teaches which is great.. however his teaching style i didn't like. Prepare to take detailed notes and or audio records his lectures, thats what helped me. Also read Unto A Good Land, his lectures are similiar to the book. I barely passed this class, if history isn't your strongest subject, don't take him.
He is the best history prof ive had! He is very nice and teaches in stories so the information is easier to comprehend. His exams are solely based on what he talks about in class and the short answer are on the textbook readings. If you study and apply yourself you can make an A!
Best history professor ever- typical old lectures and it's important that you pay attention. He is hilarious with the way he explains things and makes it easy to remember. I would definitely recommend!
This prof really brings the lecture to life. Youll never be bored in this class. He will recommend a book to read from outside of class, and it does help, but his lectures are where the tests come from. He makes you work hard during the year so that you dont have to struggle once the final comes around. Multiple extra credit opportunities too.
By far one of the best Professors I have had! His lectures are amazing and he keeps the class intrigued by including us in his lectures. Great sense of humor. I definitely recommend him. His tests are tough, if you're great at studying you should be fine, if you struggle with studying his class may not be for you. No hw, only test grades.
Only take class if you are passionate about History. Don't take for easy A.
Great professor overall. Do his extra credit, and write his essay he assigns, it's so easy! Very lecture heavy, and he has essay questions on his exams so beware of that. Study every week and go over notes, and you should be fine. Don't skip or you own't pass, and STUDY OR YOU WON'T PASS EITHER! Funny guy, and his lectures really come to life!
He does not use powerpoint so you will have to listen to lectures and take notes but his lectures are extremely entertaining and educational. He tells them in a way to where you remember them. Not an easy A but worth taking.
I loved this professor for history!! His lectures were amazing, and he involved the whole class while teaching. He is moving to the Rellis campus, but hes worth definitely worth taking. 10/10 would definitely recommend!
Does not use eCampus or any powerpoints, he only talks through his lectures in class. If you do not show up you will fail his class!! However, his lectures are amazing, and you can tell he has extensive knowledge and a passion for history. There is an essay portion on each exam, but he gives you the topic beforehand along with an extensive review.
Amazing prof, truly passionate about the subject and makes lectures more like storytelling than droning on about the past. I'm not a fan of history but I'm always engaged. You definitely need to come to class to pass, no online material and heavy note-taking. Be aware of essays and tests that you definitely need to study for! Would recommend.
The class seems really scary/overwhelming. He solely lectures in classes, but is a really entertaining lecturer. Gives 4 exams: 2 essay tests & 2 multiple choice/matching/true-false. Encourages reading for exams. If you pay attention in class, you will do okay. I got mid-Bs on all exams, but I did extra credit and ended with a high A.
I can tell Prof. Giesenschlag is very passionate about his subject area, but it wasn't a very enjoyable class for me personally. If you love history, you will probably enjoy his class, but if you just need credit, be aware that his HIST class is probably one of the hardest. If you do take him, do the extra credit, show up, and read the textbook.
Prof Giesenschlag is a great teacher he lectures heavy in class so take good notes. His lectures are really enjoyable and you actually learn a lot about history. His tests are tough so you must study his review and read the text book.
Professor Giesenschlag is an old school professor. By old school, I mean no powerpoint and no campus, only lecture. His lectures are not boring and you will learn way more by his lectures than anything else. I wouldn't say he grades hard but you definitely need to make good grades on his tests.
I really enjoyed Gs class. I was never bored in class and time always flew by. I wish I could take him for my other history classes. I learned so much in this class. Do your work and show up and you will be fine.
He uses no technology, only teaches by lecturing in class so make sure you show up. The lectures are interesting and I really enjoyed his class. He drops your lowest test grade and offers tons of extra credit.
Took Giesenschlag for 1301 & 1302. Entertaining & engaging lectures - makes history a story! Test heavy w/ 4 tests per semester. He always gives opportunities for extra credit & bonuses. Got mid-Bs on all tests, but got the bonuses & did extra credit & ended w/ an A. Gives study guides for every tests. Never read the whole chapters just used index.
Great guy, average teacher. Doesnt use eCampus, and his only grades are 4 tests, a quiz, and an essay. Tests are sometimes essay prompts and he grades them hard as hell. I got the second highest grade in the class in mine with an 81. Nice guy. Dont take him if you want an easy A
The best professor ever. Incredible lectures that really make history interesting. Just make sure you read the textbook like he suggests, it really helps on tests!
He is the WORST professor I have ever had, and, more specifically, one of the WORST people I have ever met. He was extremely rude to me in class and in his office and made me cry at least every week. One of my favorite memories of him is when he called me out in class for absolutely no reason and embarrassed me. I regret nothing more in my life SMD
i'm not a fan of history, or good at it, but he makes the class pretty interesting and tells history as a good story. read the text book, take good notes while he lecture, and do any extra credit available. A's are possible but unless you are a master at history you will really have to work for it
He gives an option of two books at the beginning of the semester, but later requires you to have a specific one. His lectures are extremely unorganized and will waste 30 minutes talking about one persons appearance, when it has no importance. His lectures are almost useless. Read the book thoroughly and do the extra credit if you want to pass.
Im not a huge history person, but I throughly enjoyed Giesenschlags class. Hes very old school. No technology at all. Just straight lecture. But I looked forward to his lectures. He makes history enjoyable. Very smart country man. His tests arent too bad as long as you look over the review, but make sure you read the textbook as well.
Took both his HIST 1301 and HIST 1302 classes. Lectures are very interesting, yet helpful on the test. The tests are directly over his lectures and the textbook he recommends at the beginning of the semester. He is always available for office hours and very friendly, willing to work with you. His instructions are always clear. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Extra credit is Giesenschlag's only saving grace, if you are not a history buff or a bookworm DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. You will have to read every page he mentions with possible research on the side in addition to his lectures which are long but he takes only half of that material for tests. If you cant give 110 or get extra cred you WON'T get an A
lectures are engaging, but doesnt use the whiteboard/any form of powerpoint, so if youre a visual learner he might not be for you. The tests are TOUGH, but he does give a study guide. He gives one really good opportunity for extra credit, but you have to work really hard on it. Be ready to do a lot of work if you decide to take him
Giesenschlag is actually a really great guy if you get to know him. Crazy knowledgeable about what he teaches. But you will have to work for it, this is definitely not an easy A class if you aren't willing to put in work.
Great professor who gives lectures that are easy to listen to. Makes it clear what you need to know for exams, show up and study is all you'll need to do.
Mr. Giesenschlag was a really interesting guy! Def need to study and fully pay attention to pass though. Be sure to ask questions about details he's looking for for the papers because he doesn't always specify till the day before its due lol... biggest word of advice is to fully pay attention and you HAVE TO STUDY if you want to pass.
No powerpoints for notes just strictly lectures in class. Rotates between multiple choice exams and essay question exams. Very tough grader on everything. He does give topics needed to know for exam but the amount of information is insane. Don't recommend taking him
Professor Giesenschlag made class very fun and is very knowledgable on what he teaches. Definitely not an easy A but he does provide study guides and all his lectures on YouTube. I highly recommend him because he never made class boring, although he is very traditional and does not provide power points to accommodate his lectures.
So, Giesenschalg is a good professor. His lectures are interesting and the way he lectures on certain subjects lets you know it's something you need to pay attention to because it'll be on the test. His test questions come from lectures so you need to attend lecture. I had a 60 quiz avg and turning in my notes for extra credit helped bump me to A.
I have no doubt that professor Giesenschlag is a very fun and interesting guy. My problem with the class was that most test and quiz questions were based on tiny details he mentioned or opinions, and he was hard to reach during the week. If you really love history he will be your favorite, but if you're looking for a gpa booster, look elsewhere
I personally loved this professor/class, but you have to work for the grade. As long as you take good notes during class and on the videos he has out, then study your notes, you should be fine. By "homework" I mean lecture videos he has on YouTube-those take a while to get through but are crucial. I took him for 1301 and 1302, so I recommend.
I have no doubt he is very knowledgeable in this subject. He seems very enthusiastic about this class. We have class twice a week and have many lectures outside of class to watch on our own, typically about an hour. They have so many in a week so this class is a lot of work.
While Professor Giesenschlag gives amazing lectures, there are no powerpoints or lecture notes given. If you dont stay caught up with the readings or lectures its very hard to get back on track. I will not be taking him again, Id strongly reconsider taking him if youve signed up for his class.
He's clearly passionate about history, but the outside of class lectures (for the 8 week course particularly) is insane. They take a while to take notes on and average 50 minutes. You have to write an essay with no rubric, would recommend asking for feedback before the due date. Turn in your lecture notes for extra credit + barely used textbook
Although he is a good historian and he knows what he is talking about. The class is just not oriented to help students out. On eCampus he only has videos of his lectures, and each are about 40-60 min each. A lot of them are on the exams so you really need to take good notes to do decent on them. There is just too many videos to keep up with.
Prof. Giesenschlag is a really nice guy and his lectures in class are great but he doesn't use PowerPoints and you have to take PAGES and PAGES of notes to pass. Every week he assigns 6 videos that are each 2hrs long. At the end of each week you have to take a quiz and an exam and most of the info comes from the 2hr videos rather than the lecture.
this was my second time taking a course from professor giesenschlag because i really enjoy the way he lectures! he makes it like a story and involves the class- its honestly what helped me remember information. tests are derived from lecture so you shouldnt miss class ever. one paper and not a hard grader! highly recommend
Professor Giesenschlag is by far my favorite professor I have had at Blinn or A&M. He tells history as a story, and gives you cool little anecdotes about real people living in the times. It is very clear that he is passionate about his field. That said, it is not an easy A of a class. You will have to work for it. Hard tests and lots of lectures.
This is a history prof. for people who like history. This class is straight up lecture with extra video lectures to be done outside of class. If you are like me and love watching history docs, you will love this class. If you are looking for an easy A, you will hate it. You are expected to take detailed notes and know them for the test.
He's really funny and personal! His in person and recorded lectures are long, (1-1.5 hrs.) and there's a ton of material to go over. He's pretty specific on exam questions- details are important. A ton of material about George Washington and Andrew Jackson for some reason.
he is the goat.super funny and clear with grading
Mr. Giesenschlag is an amazing professor and a very personable guy. You basically have weekly quizzes and tests. The quizzes are 3-5 questions and pretty hard, the tests are 75-100 questions with 2 essays. The tests are very very hard but the good news is his extra credit will save you. Take in-depth notes and submit them weekly and you'll be good.
Giesenschlag is a great professor and a funny guy you can relate to. His lectures are easy to follow and also easy to make notes. 5/5 would recommend!
He is a very personable professor. He lectures in a followable way and supplies videos of his lectures. He is very knowledgeable and eccentric when teaching. Solid professor. 10/10 would recommend him. Also, you can turn in your lecture notes for extra credit. its a 2-for-1 deal you take notes that benefit you and get extra credit.
Absolutely loved him as he was a very personable professor. He's very passionate about history and you can tell by his lectures. Do be warned he is not an easy A and will make you work for it. He does give extra credit that's very time consuming but very worth it. Take lots of notes and the more details the better. His tests are very detail heavy!
Had a great time in this class, be aware that there are no PowerPoints or online notes, but his test reviews are very comprehensive, and his lecture videos are online as well. He's funny, nice, and his lectures are enjoyable enough. Be prepared to take a lot of notes, and study a bit outside of class, but all in all a very enjoyable class.
He's alright. Seems like a great guy but his class just isn't it. Not much homework but all the lectures are verbal so there are no powerpoints or anything like that. History is one of my worst subjects and his exams are long. Gives opportunity for extra credit but I'd rather sign up for another professor.
This dude is a genius in his field. Attend class, listen to him, take notes, and you'll be perfectly set for this class. Attending class shouldn't be a problem because this guy is HILARIOUS. Made American History very fascinating.
This was the worst class I have taken. He rambles on about things that aren't important to the curriculum, and he assigns like eight to ten hour long videos each week of things that he could've gone over in twenty minutes. I did end with a good grade but now I actually hate everything about Texas history so take this class at your own risk.
just dont
I do not recommend taking him unless you are ready to eat sleep and BREATHE history. You need to attend the lectures to gain a foundation of the content but that's not including the 3 hours of videos a week he includes that you need to watch to pass the tests. His tests and quizzes are highly subjective, a lot of the material is not in the lectures
I was really close to an A but the tests are hard. Make sure you watch the lecture videos and go to class because thats the only way you will pass. He's a great professor and offers a lot of extra credit. Watch lectures before class, read the book, take lots of notes and be prepared to write for the exams and you will get an A.
I took this class with a very good understanding of American History, but not much of a knowledge of the way Professor Giesenschlag taught it. I enjoyed the lectures but most of the stuff talked about in lecture wasn't on the exams. It was mainly stuff from videos he made for covid times and stuff from the book. These screwed my grade a bit.
Nathan Giesenchlag was a great professor, and his lectures were fun! He offers a lot of extra credit if you take notes, which helps boost your grade. His tests are very long but easy if you pay attention in class. There is an essay at the end of every test, which is the only hard part of this class.
He is an amazing professor and was the highlight of my classes at Blinn! In the beginning I was unsure of what to think about the idea that he had no powerpoints but his lecturing abilities really make up for it. Reading the two textbooks given are important to the test and notes are as well! The lectures are the test material! Take this class!!!
He is an amazing professor. His lectures are very interesting and funny. He does provide extra credit at the end of the course if you have taken good notes throughout his class. He does have very long test and you will need to study a lot for them.
Do NOT take him for Texas History, or anything really. No notes are given online or in class. He stands at the front of the room with his arms crossed and just talks/rambles on the whole class period. For every test, u have to write an essay. Quizzes = open notes but only 3-5 questions long so if u miss 1 question: bad grade. MOUNDS of reading too.
VERY lecture heavy - if you fall behind watching/going to lecture you will STRUGGLE. Exams are heavily based off of not only what is said in class but also the textbook!! That being said, the course is loaded with extra credit, take advantage where you can. Sometimes will drop exam hints at office hours - definitely go, super approachable dude.
2 books are required in order to pass the class due to the readings. Tests are hard, but if you go to class and listen and take notes on lecture you should do okay. Extra credit is givin and in order to get a good grade with one bad exam grade you NEED to do the extra credit (granted it's a lot of work!) Extra credit bumped me from a C to a high A.
SUPER LECTURE HEAVY. Like if you do not pay attention to the lectures you will not pass the exams. All homework was a discussion that was twice a week at most and exams. Gives A LOT of extra credit.
There aren't enough words to describe the mediocrity, yet soul-drench, that is taking any of his classes. If you want to pass a course with Giesenschlag as your professor, you will need to eat, sleep, and breathe his course until you are done. This is the fairest asssesment one can put within the character limit
Professor Giesenschlag was a good history professor, only thing is that tests and final were very difficult. He doesn't use slides or any kind of posted notes, the only resource is attending class and paying full attention to everything he says. He makes class enjoyable because he is very funny and tells interesting stories.
I loved his lectures they were very interesting and entertaining. It was an 8-week class so there were several lectures to watch online weekly. If you attend class and do the homework it is an easy A. I would definitely take him again.
Lecture-heavy class, but the extra credit opportunities help boost your grade. Definitely attend class, take good notes, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy to prepare for the challenging exams. With diligence, you can succeed in this course.
Great knowledgeable and passionate professor. Attendance is not mandatory but necessary for the difficult exams. You wont want to miss class because his lectures are super interesting, interactive with the class, and told kind of like a story. There are weekly out-of-class lectures that can be pretty long but there isnt much more work than those.
Prof. Giesenschlag is a good professor and knows his stuff off the top of his head. There is no homework only 4 exams and one essay for this class. It is very important to take notes on exactly what he says because that it was it a majority of the test but it is also helpful to read the textbook to get extra info.
Watch the online lectures; he is exam-heavy and a lot of the test questions come from the review, the in-person lectures and the online lectures. Don't skip class or else your grade will suffer. Do the extra credit; it will help bring your grade up to an A. If you have Mr. Giesenschlag, be prepared to put in some effort. Fun class, but tough exams.
Dr. Giesenschalg's class was always engaging. He does not use technology or slides, but rather, lectures from memory, so prepare to write/type everything he says. He uses two textbooks, both of which are helpful, but not necessary to get a good grade. Additional lectures are on YouTube. Overall, great person and I would 100% take him again.
Very lecture heavy, but as long as you take notes you will do good on the exams. His lectures are so interesting, and he tells history as if it is a story. Do the extra credit, it is very helpful.
Professor Giesenschlag was one of the highlights of my time at Blinn before transferring to TAMU. I took 1301, 1302, and Texas History with him and loved every minute of all of them. He is funny, intelligent, and very engaging. Pay attention and take great notes, and you will do well. Lecture heavy and takes a lot of effort, but very worth it.
