Good prof
Nice, interesting and fair prof
Most Lectures covered exactly the same thing as the slides posted online. Despite this, he made lectures interesting and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend that people take his class.
He's a good prof, the tests had a few tricky questions on them but if you do your reading and attend his lectures, you will do just fine. Ask him questions, he is always willing to help.
love him
Prof. Innocente is an amazing prof! His lectures are well organized and pretty clear! I loved him! Would definitely take more classes with him!
Innocente is awesome, super nice and fun!
HE'S SOOOOO HOTTT!! He was a great prof too!!! Very helpful!!
Prof Innocente is awesome! His lectures were awesome & I always looked forward to them! I'd say he definitely made my first year more enjoyable and less stressful. Easy A if you attend lectures, take good notes (his examples are key!) and do the corresponding readings! He incorporated experiences about himself wherever relevant! Overall: thumbs up!
He's my boy yo!
Really good prof. made the class enjoyable. Would recommend taking the course with him.
Great prof.
He's really amazing, super nice and approachable. I loved everything about him, and his lectures are actually interesting, felt like I was learning new things everyday! Tests are important so don't forget to study.
Prof. Innocente is such a genuine individual. He definitely made my first semester here a lot easier and less stressful. Even if you're taking SOC as an elective the course content is interesting and Innocente makes it easy to grasp and understand. Take his class!!!
Dr. Innocente is an excellent professor and made Introduction to Sociology a really fun course. He is open for any questions, very clear in his lectures and a very genuine person. I would definitely take his courses again, I learned a lot in his class and definitely appreciated his life lessons.
Definitely one of the best at what he does. If you have the chance to take his courses, do it. Makes content interesting and always available for assistance.
this is the worst proff iv had at utm, his tests are difficult and he words questions too make u second guess, uses too many in class examples on tests but only covers 0.1% of the reading, would never recommend him too anyone, he's a terrible teacher, bad at making tests and also takes forever too mark assignments or talk too him in his office
He was my favourite prof thus far!
Great Professor, everyone speaks highly well of Innocente. Lectures are well understood, fun to learn and as well a great atmosphere to learn.
Good professor, make sure that you attend lectures.
Great prof. funny take the course with him.
Professor Innocente is such an amazing guy! Very approachable, and genuine. He tries to do the best he can in terms of clarification and his lectures are very interesting. Not a bird course, but a very interesting class. My favorite prof. by far!
Professor Innocente is honestly one of the best professors at UTM. He is an amazing lecturer, and makes even trivial content extremely interesting!! Also, he really explains concepts very well. Would recommend people to go his office hours as well, because he's not only a great prof, but also a great person! Overall A+ Innocente
AMAZING prof. Read the textbook and study for your tests and you'll definitely get an A
he's an amazing professor, extremely direct and clear, need to attend lectures because there is a lot of lecture material on the tests but not many tests at all, MUCH easier than most other courses, very light coursework its mainly all reading the textbook, and hes really cute
Professor Innocente is so amazing! I loved his class so much! His lectures are always pretty interesting, and he is hilarious. Attend all the lectures, listen attentively, take notes, and you'll pass!! There's only one writing assignment. He's always approachable and easy going. My friend thinks he's intimidating, but he's actually really sweet!!
Professor Innocente is the best professor I've ever had, and I'm not even studying Sociology, and it turned out being one of my favourite classes. If you can, I'd definitely recommend taking SOC100 with Prof Innocente, he's a great prof with great lectures. Tests aren't the easiest, but if you study and show up to lectures, everything is fair.
The tests were only multiple choice and I found it very useful to study from past exams as some questions were repeated on the final. Also on the final, there were two short answer questions and you have choice amongst which ones you choose to do. His lectures are captivating and he explains content very well.
Awesome Prof! Clear lectures and grading criteria!
Great professor! Took this last year, he knows what he's doing and soc100 with him was a breeze! Also makes the content pretty interesting so you won't find the material very dry.
lectures are good, he explains content well and engages with the class using both discussions and relations to current events. Tests are pretty ez if you study and go to lectures.
This professor is arrogant and spends too much time telling pointless stories. He gave out the answer key to a test and instead of rescheduling it he made all other assignments worth more. Way too hard of a course for material that is so simple. Do NOT take this course if you're looking for an easy A. The TAs have ridiculous expectations.
AMAZING PROF!! Honestly, to all the people that say he's not a good prof... you're probably not trying hard enough. Innocente is very clear with his expectations, if you pay attention to him, you will do very well. This shouldn't be difficult considering how engaging his lectures are. Cheers!
THE BEST!!!
exellent prof , make sure to writte essays well
Best professor at UTM by far! Had him for soc100 and soc209 makes me never want to miss a lecture, so friendly and helpful for assignments as well. Go to office hours, he's truly there to help students.
The prof hands down is the most chillest and popular prof at utm. He looks decent and is very approachable. Although his TA's are savage when it comes to marking.
He's a very cool professor and I think he has one of the best lectures - both informative and entertaining. He is very fair and clearly tells you his expectations for assignments and the tests. Would take another course with him for sure.
one of the best best profs at utm
Honestly just look for classes to take with him teaching now! I've had him for two classes so far and he's by far the best prof I've ever had.
Innocente is such a personable and down-to-earth prof. He wants his students to succeed and provides clear grading criteria on how to do it. He is available in his office hours, always more than happy to answer class questions. He really cares about his students and it shows. The breakdown of assignments and tests were great. Would take again!
Best prof at utm
Nathan is an amazing prof! His lectures are full of useful info and he doesn't ask about random facts or history on tests--he prefers asking about theories. His lectures are full of examples that relate to his personal life which makes each class fun. Any marks deducted from my final grade were my doing, can't blame him!
Really engages students during the lectures even though the class is 500 people. Uses humor without being extra. Definitely not a boring class.
A really interesting prof and really educated in his field, but when it came to the tests I studied like crazy but all tests were multiple choice, my downfall. I recommend if you're just a screw up in multiple choice testing not to take this course, even though I love this subject I really couldn't deal with the tests and high expectations of TA's
Essay is tough. Great lectures. Cool prof.
Great prof!
A must take!! His courses involve critical thinking and research.
Best prof ever! Absolutely loved his lectures. 10/10 would recommend.
Nathan is incredible! I took his SOC100 class in first year simply as an elective but ended up loving it! I decided to change majors into criminology and took his SOC209 class. Unlike other profs, he is very approachable and direct with your questions. I would highly recommend to take his courses in the future!
Nathan is such an amazing prof, you need to take his classes. He's so intelligent with an awesome sense of humour. He reused questions from the past exams, so the exam was so easy, also got to write in point form. Overall he's just such a good prof in all aspects. Textbook is good to clarify topics.
Prof Innocente is hilarious & extremely knowledgable! His lectures were great & the tests were multiple choice. There is a writing assignment worth a significant part of your grade, so if you're not great at MC, you can make up for it with this assignment. Overall, he was the best prof I had this semester & will be taking more of his classes!
Amazing prof. There r 2 profs offered in this course, and he's just so much better than the other prof. Fun lectures. Hilarious dude.
Honestly, Innocente is amazing !! He makes you actually want to come to class. The essay was difficult but if you follow the criteria and go ask for help during office hours you'll do really good. Past exams are helpful, alot of questions reappear ! Just overall chill dude, funny and very clear and to the point !! Just put in effort and ur good
Delivers the most intriguing lectures, he is hilarious and really keeps the class engaged. Grading for the written assignment was tough however, so put in a good amount of effort for that. Make sure to keep up with readings and take good notes in lecture and you'll do great!
I had prof. Innocente during my first year. He has a good sense of humour and his tests are fair. There were three midterms, one (brutal) essay and the final exam for the class. He, like most professors, is a creature of habit, so his Fall 2016 exam was very similar to that of previous years. You do, however, need to study in order to do well.
Lecture are long and often stray off topic. Test question were vague and general while the answers were expected to be specific.
Great professor, funny but serious when needed.
Best prof at UTM - that is all that is needed to be said. And the man is so attractive like hello attendance here i come
Prof. Innocente is great at explaining concepts in a way that you understand and will remember. His lectures are interesting and use lots of questions to get you to think about the concepts.
We love a 6 foot 8 inches tall attractive KING! He is a sight for sore eyes and has a self deprecating sense of humour. A total package. Oh and yeah he is very well-versed and knowledgeable in his field. His SOC100 tests are alright, but there are quite a few iffy questions. The essay outline was vague and the essay got marked harshly for some.
The tests are straight-forward provided you study. Beware of the written assignment, it's bloody hard. He's got a great sense of humour; this makes coming to class a real pleasure. Took this course just to fill an elective, but ended up changing my major to sociology. Also, he's 6'8" which is pretty cool.
amazing prof!!
First of all, he's absolutely gorgeous. He made coming to class actually enjoyable. He's passionate about what he's talking about and makes lectures extremely engaging. Easily the best prof I've ever had.
Hands down, one of the best profs in UTM. I had very little expectations going into the class, but Prof. Innocente blew me away. Tests are easy if you do the readings and do some practice tests (Quizlets included). Final exam was also relatively easy. Watch out for the big essay, it's a hit or miss.
For his tests make sure to study textbook and lectures. I suggest to not skip lectures as they are more important knowledge for the exam. Prof. Innocente is generally every approachable, lectures are funny and entertaining and he is the most fair professor I met so far. He is so hot, hands down fr
Amazing professor! Explains concepts clearly in lectures. Every class with him is very interesting and he keeps everyone engage. His tests are fair and you'll definitely enjoy a class with him
This course is easy to ace. You have to attend lectures and listen to his stories/explanations because they all come up on tests. The essay was marked harshly because the TA's are extra. Overall his lectures aren't boring but read the textbook before class, make notes and you should be good. Do past exams because they repeat a lot. You have to work
His lectures are very informative and interactive. I actually understand what he's trying to get across without ever getting distracted. He's a funny guy too, but man making an essay worth 20% is just cruel.
He is an amazing professor and has the best lectures.
Amazing prof. The lectures are so interesting that you'd never want to skip. However, your grades will suffer, you are only graded by multiple choice that is not straightforward at all. You really need to know your stuff. not bird, very very tough essay worth 20%. but still funny and cool prof
Hes a very nice prof. His lectures are engaging and interesting. For the writing assignment please please start early and get feedback from TAs if you want a good mark. For tests, go to his lectures and do readings and then just practice as much as you can. Do past exam mcq or online quizzes. Youll be fine :)
Soc100 in and of itself is a generic basic boring kind of course but nathan makes it applicable and relateable to real world issues. Lectures are definitely worth it. Answers questions ranging in all levels of difficulty and takes all questions. For the paper go to take office hours. It is NOT a bird course. Keep up with lectures and readings.
Pretty fun class, and really interesting topics, too. The tests are all MCQ so pretty easy to pass as long as you do the readings and know things going on in lectures. The writing assignment's a bit confusing but other than that it's a great class :)
Easy to do well in Nathan's classes. Read the text and show up and you're guaranteed a good grade. Tests are pretty easy. The essay can be tricky if you're not the best at writing but, you get a lot of time to work and revise it. No tutorials for this class. Good prof overall with good lectures.
Nathan is a great prof! The lectures are packed full of information, so take good notes or record them. Would recommend simply buying the ebook version of the textbook and sharing it. The tests aren't difficult and the exam has repeat questions from the year before. The criteria for the essay isn't super clear so make sure to ask for help.
Nathan is such an engaging lecturer. He always tries to incorporate our interests into his lectures. Attendance is a must- his tests are mostly based on lecture material with a couple of questions from the textbook.
Man, I didnt even know what SOC was, and then I took this guy's course and found it so interesting and fun that I decided to Major in Crim and SOC. Makes everyone engaged and tells funny stories in a way that students can relate, and I would often rather go to his lectures than to skip. 100% recommend if you actually want to be interested
SOC100 had 3 tests (MC), an essay and a final exam. The tests are pretty easy if you read the textbook because half of the questions are lecture based while half are textbook based. The essay is straightforward, however the TA's mark it harshly.
My first university lecture was SOC100 and I had a really good experience. I enjoyed the lectures, the prof is funny and nice. Though I have never talked to him privately, he is definitely, one of my favourite profs so far. Also, I wouldn't say that it is a bird course, you have to read the textbook and know the slides.
Watched these lectures on at least 1.5x speed, sometimes 2x. 4 module quizzes from 28-35 points, multiple-choice and two written assignments. Not super engaging lectures but if you read (or listen) to the textbook you'll be good.
Interesting person. Good lectures. Paper grading was wack and dumb. TA's gave horrible grades even though I try following his rubric.
Great at explaining concepts and gives great examples. I took the class while online and his class was enjoyable and fun. Tests are easy if you study well!
The course is very independent online. The TA's do mark very harsh even though I went to the TA'S office hours I still didnt receive an amazing mark. Don't wait until the day of test to complete everything though.
the GOAT.. very easy to do at least ok in his class. nice man; he knows various martial arts, was a bouncer, and served in the military... you don't want smoke with this man; nor should you want smoke with him. tests are all open book and open dictionary. writing assignments are marked pretty hard but as long as you do well in the tests gg no exam
Look, this class is not an easy pass. You do have to work hard and try your best. Im not saying its hard to get an A but I am saying that reading the textbook and trying to truly understand the material is highly important for his tests as they are all application based. Overall, good course. Would take another class with him. No exam. Interesting
Kinda arrogant and cocky, but I mean that's typical of a basic white guy in the sociology department. As a professor, he pretty much just repeats what's on the slides and offers no real analysis of the course content. His tests are filled with so many trick questions, so beware.
So far one of the best profs ive encountered at utm. Almost completely hated this place until I took SOC100, and realized how fun and blissful education can really be. Great examples, great analogies, very nice, and actually puts stuff we learnt in class on the test. This class will definitely get you an A if you actually put in the work. Great guy
innocente is awesome, the lectures are so easy to understand! the assignments are straightforward too and the TAs dont grade harshly except on the participation assignments for some reason. i really enjoyed how well innocente explained everything! the readings are helpful but you dont need them to get an A. the final was long answer and it was ez
Genuine and kind Professor. Easily one of the best the Sociology department has. I took this course last semester as a program requirement for my criminology major and I was stressed about the difficulty but I put in the work and ended with a 4.0. Gives feedback on the tests in-office hours, is helpful, TA's give lots of feedback on assignments too
As I wrote in April 2018, I finished SOC100 with Prof Innocente and his teaching made me change my major. 3 years later, Ive just taken SOC303 with him and am happy to report he is still just as good. Thorough, very knowledgeable, and incredibly fair. His courses arent bird courses but theyre very interesting. Course was online due to COVID.
I have taken 2 courses with Innocente (SOC208 and SOC303) and by far he's my favourite professor! His lectures are really interesting and his assignments are super simple. For SOC303, he gave us options on what type of assignment we wanted to do. Overall, a really great prof and I highly recommend taking classes with him!
prof innocente is such a kind prof. he is funny and relatable and cares for his students. I was doing poorly on the tests and he took the time to have a long meeting with me and give me the help no other student was given and it helped to succeed. I highly recommend him
I cannot explain how good he is. His understanding of the subject is very superior. Also, his lectures are most engaging. Read regularly and listen carefully in his class though. If you are attentive you will get hints on how to understand the material better and what reading/studying techniques you should apply. 5 stars to him!!
I had Innocente and Baker for SOC100 in 2021Fall and it was amazing! The tests were so easy, you just have to understand the concepts from the textbook and watch the lectures cuz there might be test questions that are lecture-based. Their new textbook was so informative and easy to understand (I'm an ESL student) but there were lots of readings!
amazing professor, the best at UTM, take all of his classes!
Prof Innocente is a really good professor, his lectures are really interesting and he is also really funny. In my opinion he is a tough grader. Make sure and do all of his participation exercises.
Overall an awesome prof. He is passionate about what he teaches.
Teaches the material well and over assign readings or assignments. Provides options for each of the large grades, so you can choose if you prefer to take a traditional test or do a more creative assignment instead.
Awesome! So knowledgeable and funny making class much more engaging.
Great professor. He was very encouraging and made class so fun. I found other classes with him as the prof and they were just as fun.
There are many tests throughout the course and preparing notes before them is essential. Overall, go to his office hours because he's really helpful and caring. Love him!
Great professor! He has a great passion for the course, and he also gives a lot of tips, which are helpful for 1st years. The lectures are always informative yet engaging, and the tests are fair. The TAs and great too. Innocente and the TAs are always available should you have any questions.
Second time taking a course with Prof Innocente. He makes every lecture engaging and funny. Tests are fair and straightforward. TA I had was strict in marking so I reached out but got nothing, when I reached out to Professor he helped me. He is a professor that cares for his students and is always responsive to emails, and is ready to help.
Does not explain well, and it isn't easy to understand concepts.
One of the best profs on campus - I've taken 2 classes with him and he's so good. His lectures are easy to understand, he's fun to talk and listen to, his grading is very clear and fair and the course load is easily manageable.
His lectures are engaging and pass by quickly. Just read the textbook and take notes for a low stress test day and good grade. People criticizing the course just don't listen to the advice given on day 1 -- which is read and show up to lecture.
I usually find office hours useless to attend to, however, I found Prof. Innocente's very useful as he made sure you left his office with a clear understanding of the material. I found most of the lectures quite engaging, and Professor Innocente's enthusiasm significantly contributed to this. One of the best profs at UTM imo
I loveeeee Nathan and his lectures are so fascinating and straight to the point. I got a B because I did not study enough but his slides are detailed and straightforward, so are the test questions, and he is super caring. I have taken SOC100, SOC208, and SOC303 with him and i will definitely take SOC423 with Nathan in the future as well!
He is hilarious in lectures and always gives the class a laugh.
One of, if not the best professor I have had since coming to university. He makes the lectures memorable and engaging. Definitely take one of his classes if you are interested in pursuing sociology.
Innocente is an alright professor and SOC100 was a fine class. But I don't find him as funny or engaging as many people do. He taught SOC100 with Professor Baker, who I think was way more engaging with students and had really interesting lectures that facilitated discussions. He is overrated, and Baker is overhated.
The best prof!!!
What a prof! He's great overall!! But you have to be very thorough and think outside the box for his classes.
he is one of the best profs at utm. this is my third class with him and i would take several more if i could. he is super accommodating and his lectures are entertaining. the way he teaches makes it so that you actually remember lecture content and its not just reading off the slides. he also gives you options to choose from for assessments
Makes the lectures so fun, and engages with the students a lot. You can really tell that he is passionate about what he teaches. By far one of my favourite profs!
Innocente is an engaging professor who makes lectures fun and informative. The material is manageable if you attend class, read the textbook, and use resources like unstuck ai for study prep. Highly recommended!
SOC100 was a pretty reading-heavy course and his lectures didn't add much for me
Not a caring professor, don't recommend
Course is structured well. However, would never take this course simply based off the TA Selay Ghaffar. One of the WORST TAs I have encountered in my life and at my time thus far at UofT. Won't be minoring in sociology anymore - if you were considering to major or minor in sociology reconsider! Profs don't teach anything, great textbook though!
Truly a condescending professor! Three letters behind your name will not earn you respect, your character will. Do not recommend this course especially if you are a minority. Prof literally told me “you are not smart enough” which has lingered on my mind and detrimentally impacted my mental health. I never felt so discouraged. UofT do BETTER!
Aside from rambling on about his tenure and his height, he almost always structures his tests is such a confusing way. The questions are worded in such a weird manner that you are bound to be confused at some point throughout the tests. The lectures are meh but the tests do impact your grade quite a bit so it sucks that he makes them confusing.
Dr Innocente is a good lecturer but be prepared for 3 midterms in this course
The TA's in this course are so under qualified its pathetic. They can barley write comprehensive feedback for the assignments, in particular the TA Selay Ghaffar. The prof's themselves aren't that bad as they lecture fine however the marking in this course is so bad. Its the worst I've seen. I get good grades so this is definitely a TA/courseprblm
The tests were so hard... His lectures are a lot of discussion so a lot of self learning.
Not a good prof at all. Gets paid to do nothing. Not too sure how he got hired. Goes on his own rant and simply rude.
Took this class last semester, one of my favourite profs, instructions are clear, and grades fairly. you could get away with not going to class but I actually enjoyed his lectures
I've taken 4 classes with professor Innocente throughout the course of my undergrad and he is simply amazing. He is the best Sociology/Criminology prof at UTM and he genuinely cares about his students. He's down to earth and his lectures are engaging and clear. Love him
Not a good class overall.
Professor Innocente had engaging lectures, and was respectfully engaging in class. I found him to be a lot more helpful than professor Baker for SOC100 -- overall, a nice professor who gives you the time of day.
While Prof Innocente's (+ Prof Baker's) lectures were fun, you could probably get away with not attending, studying for tests just off the textbook, and still get an A. The readings were long but not excruciatingly difficult to get through. The tests are pretty stressful sometimes though -- not being able to skip or go back to a question is rough.
The textbook can be tedious at times but for the most part this course wasn't that hard, just do your readings and try and keep up with the lectures and you'll be fine
Professor Innocente is a good professor. I enjoyed the class. I found the slides difficult to study from; they are mainly graphs and the slides had a lot of information cut off. My recommendation is to read the appropriate chapter and do the multiple choice and matching questions after every class so it doesn't pile up in the end.
He is a good professor, however the lectures are a brief introduction of the chapter. The course is mostly self learning. I would reccommend going to the lectures as he does reference the test questions from the lectures, and you can get great advice about the assignments from him so that was great.
He wasn't anything special but was an okay prof. He was funny at times, but the content wasn't as interesting as other social science classes, meaning that the painfully mundane lectures weren't his fault entirely. He was engaging, kind, and always willing to explain further, just was a meh class. Do the readings and show up and you'll be fine.
