Mr Jones is an awesome teacher. As long as you follow his rules, you'll do fine w/o a problem. He'd let you revise your paper until you get 100. Persistence is the rule in his class and youl get an A --- easily.
He is one of the best teacher if you are going to take an eap or comp 1 class.HE is very helpful and caring. The only thing you have to do is to submit your assignments in time and should be present.
In Mr. Jones class you have to show up each day. He doesn't like it when you skip. You can get an A in his class if you work hard and redo your papers alot. If your lazy, you'll probably get a bad grade. You have to do alot of rewriting to get the A or B grade. But he'll work with you.
This guy is AWESOME!!! He gives you hard feedback and then he gives you the chance to revise your papers for a higher grade. On my first paper I got an F, but after revising it a couple of times, I pulled it up to an A. It was like that the whole term. But I learned how to write. Highly recommend him!
great teacher, he is the best english teacher i have ever had. he wants you to learn and by that, he will let you revise a paper as many times as you want, to get the grade you want. Attendance is very important, so make sure you show up to class!
he is really cool, you can revise your papers as much as you need to get the grade that you want, which for me is an A, but make sure that you go to class each day and be on time. he is always on time and doesn't like it when you come late, but he's very nice, he cares about students
He likes teaching. If you can get into his comp 1 class, you're lucky. Just follow his rules; by that, I mean that you have to show up each day and rewrite all of your papers. Pay attention in class. If you do, you'll get an A.
Nathan is a perfect writing teacher! He might gives you 4-5 essays at semester. He trains your logic and writing skill in class. be willing to follow his rules. highly suggest second revision. pay attention to his notes for each essay. mandtory require. finally, u will get A easily.
He was a great teacher, lets you do as many revisions as you want for all the essays except for the final one. Also there was no final in my class, just the grade for the last paper. At the end, I enjoyed the class.
he is an amazing professor i would highly recommend him.
Professor Jones is a pretty good teacher. I don't really like the assignment though...we had to write an I-search book and that was pretty much our whole grade for the semester But he is pretty helpful and is full of advice - you just have to ask.
He's a really good teacher. For his Comp II you have to write an i-search book. I couldn't believe the assignment when I first heard it! I never thought that I could write a whole book but I did. But don't worry. You pick the topic and he'll help you all the way. It's alot of hard work but it's worth it. I learned alot.
Nathan is a special instructor. His phylosophy is diff. from others. he wanna give u a valuable class. Writing a isearch book is the only on project. focusing on ur process n turn in on time. u will get A' no test in class.
I took his class for the Spring-'10 sem.If you've opted Writing level 4, JONES is what you should opt for as well. He's the best!! Attendance is important but if you had to skip a class or two for specific reasons then he'll def understand (just don't forget to clarify the reason!)He's also one the most liberal teachers I've come across. EXCELLENT!
My comp 1 teacher last year sucked. Jones was a relief for me. Ahtough he's picky about his rules, he spends time with you helping you learn to write. The isearch book is a great assignment. If hed just assigned something to me, i probably would've hated his class. But he didn't. We got to pick ur own topics and write a book about them.
I found him very helpful. Had no problems with him getting back to me on e-mail questions that I had sent. He is a very laid back teacher and does everything he can to help you pass his class.
HE IS KIND. WHEN I COPIED AN ASSIGNMENT HE CAUGHT ME AND GAVE ME AN F. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER HE ASKED ME TO REDO THE ASSIGNMENT AND ID ID MY OWN WORK AND GOT AN A. HE GAVE ME A SECOND CHANCE AND I LEARNED MY LESSON. I APPRECIATE HIM. JUST FOLLOW HIS RULES. DONT CHEAT.
Took his class online and found him to be very helpful, quick with his responses and clear in his directions. He goes in depth about what you need to improve on and tells you how to achieve it. Great teacher.
This guy is one of the nicest professors I have had at JCCC. I was super worried about comp but Nathan made it fun and stress free. He wants you to show up to class everyday, so if you like to skip class do not take him. Dr. Jones is top notch! P.S. Dude has a sweet chrome dome.
Great professor, I have never actually enjoyed going to a Professor's class like him. He has individual conferences that last 30 minutes with every student with each paper to make sure you're on the right track to getting a A in his class. I am recent too. I took his class Spring 2012 and loved it. YOU MUST COME TO CLASS or points will be deducted.
VERY good teacher, Probably best I have had so far. Very clear on his assignments, responds quickly. Makes class very stress free. Choose him as your instructor if given the chance. do your work, and you will end up wih good grade. took class online.
Best teacher I have had!! Really laid back, he is the nicest guy I have ever met, when you have a paper (which that was most of the class, I think we wrote maybe 5)he cancels class so you come in and meet one on one and he will help you with it and tell you what he wants from it to help you get a better grade plus he lets you rewrite a bad one.
I took Nathan for Comp 1 and Comp 2, so I know him pretty well. I think that he's a good teacher. You DO have to go to class, but that isn’t enough. You ALSO need to do the work and do it well. Don’t worry, he’ll guide you along the way. But if you’re immature, someone who wants an easy A, he isn’t for you. He will expect you to work and write.
This guy... Be prepared to write, but also be prepared to write about the things you want to write about. Definitely not your average writing class, but he's an amazing person and professor. Be sure to be there when he hands out assignments, but overall I would retake his class in a heartbeat.
Absolute Great teacher. Wish he taught more classes. He's the kind of teacher that recognizes your effort and really cares about your success!
Loved everything about this class. He is a very interesting and a laid back guy. If you need extra help he is more than willing to make time for students. Great, great teacher! You do have to show up. I would retake his class any day of the week.
Jones is a great teacher! I had him for ENG 1. His teachings were very interesting and he made it very easy to understand. You write about 3 or 4 papers in the semester but they are very easy and fun topics to write about.
One of the coolest professors around Jones is a teacher who genuinely cares about his students and will go out of his way to make sure you are understanding the assignments. He gives good feedback on all papers submitted and will allow you to rewrite your paper for a better grade. I highly recommend taking his class
I loved this class. There were several papers in different styles of writing, which kept things interesting all the way through. Professor Jones is happy to help anyone who asks, and is very laid-back and easy to approach. He gives his students freedom to choose topics that interest them, and class was always enjoyable! I am taking him again!
Great guy, but doesn't explain assignments well enough. Also, attendance should never be weighted so high, because teachers should grade and focus on the product. Not if the person misses some classes. If you miss classes, you might as well drop out and throw away your paper you've been working on. That's apparently your only option.
He's really good at teaching. His assignments are interesting, his instructions are clear. You do have to go to class. The book assignment was a lot of fun. I'm glad that I took him.
Nathan is a good teacher. He provides a very unique Comp course by following the principles created by Ken Macrorie. Macrorie encouraged writing as a personal, reflective experience, and one that illicited personal change. So for Comp with Nathan, your whole grade will be based on writing a small "I-Search" book. Everyone should experience this.
I really enjoyed taking this class. It was incredibly clear that the professor not only really loves the subject he's teaching, but genuinely wants to see his students not just pass the class but take something away from the course. Only one complaint: DO NOT PURCHASE THE TEXTBOOK. Get the easy writer, but don't waist your money on the textbook.
Very nice teacher, he's very understanding. You do have to meet with him a lot and he is big about attendance, so don't skip class. There is no test and you don't have to read a novel for the class. The whole semester you write a 'book' (a paper about 20 pages) about any topic but it has to be a 'how to'. It is an easy class if you do all the work.
Professor Jones definitely helped me throughout the semester. He really is there for you and has many times you can meet him during office hours. He does take attendance. Had about 5 papers including the final. Would definitely take him again! We also didn't even use the textbook.
The main assignment for the whole semester is to write a short non-fiction research-based book over pretty much anything you want, as long as it relates to your life in some way. He truly cares about every student and his goal is to make you enjoy writing. If you show effort the whole semester and go to class you will get an A.
This guy will spell out what he wants and hold your hand through the process if needed. He loves talking to his students. I learned about more than just writing in this class. I feel like I would have been at a loss had I had any other teacher. He grades tough, but you can earn an A if you want to work for it. Don't buy the TextBook!!
he gives you chances to redeem yourself from a bad assignment or paper. He is super sweet, understanding and he wants you to pass so he does NOT make the class hard at all. We always get out of class early, which is nice because he is my last class of the day.
He really cares about his students and what is going on with them personally. He does require attendance but understands that life happens. Work is mostly done in class and he lets you revise papers for credit. More teachers should have his laid back and caring attitude.
Not your average composition class. Great teacher with awesome knowledge, wisdom, and stories through his life experiences. Expect to put a lot of time and effort into his class and keep up with the work! If you do, you will reap all the benefits!
I took Comp II and I wish I would've taken Comp I with him as well. I loved his teaching style and this class overall was enjoyable. I loved having class time to work on my papers as well.
Professor Jones is genuinely caring. He goes above and beyond to ensure that his students succeed in class. He does not give tests, instead your grade is determined by 3 papers, class attendance, and 1 in-class writing assignment. The 3rd paper is your final. he gives plenty of time to complete each assignment and many chances to improve grades.
So my English 121 course is essentially a grade based on attendance, participation, and 13 essays. One essay takes me about 2 hours to complete. Make sure to use whatever writing tutors are offered to you. You are never too talented a writer that a tutor will not be helpful. Euhhh also use office hours. Nathan jones will read over your pieces.
In Nathan's Comp 2 class we were required to write a book. The class itself isn't difficult and he walks you through every step so that it is manageable, but you will be writing a lot. DO NOT GET THE TEXTBOOKS. You will never need them and he will give you everything you need. He is clearly passionate about what he does and wants you to succeed.
He only assigns three papers in the semester and weekly reading journals that are only a page and a half including header. He will allow papers to be handed in late if necessary and he encourages to rewrite papers. Last paper was the final and we had two meetings set up to go over the paper any final rewrites on past papers. Super easy and helpful
Nathan is there to really help you and is not a very hard grader. Show up to class.
The class mainly consists of you writing a 30-50 page book... it's actually pretty fun if you choose a topic your interested in. He pretty much lets you choose whatever you want to write on. Have to show up for class. He takes attendance. Other than that.. pretty easy. Don't buy the textbook. He will literally tell you the first day to not buy it.
I like to write but was very frustrated with the lack of actual lecturing on writing a paper. He just lectured about the subject the paper was on. Was Hybrid format so we only met six times in class. The very first class got cancelled and was never made up so we had to write the first three papers w/o any instruction. Really frustrating.
Pretty basic Comp 1 class consisting of 3 very different essays and a weekly current event/reading journals. Wish I would've taken comp online though because lecture/class time did not consist of much. Very kind professor, great for beginning writers and college students.
Nathan was very kind and helpful. Easy comp 1 class with 3 different types of essay styles for diversity. Comp online might be better if you do not want to sit in class for history lectures and etc. If you like face to face classes and dont skip class then take him. He takes attendance everyday and it is a grade. He also lets you revise essays.
He has you write a lot each week, journals/papers. He spends a lot of time reading examples, showing how to write. The topics of his papers are very special. He explains how to write in different subjects. I liked the art paper the best. If you're lazy, you'll fall behind. You have to work keep up. Not for everyone, I guess.
I took him for hybrid comp1. He posts stuff online, we show up each three weeks for class, he goes over stuff in class when you meet, he's in his office nights we don't meet, he gives you lots of advice/instructions. OUr class cancelled the first night because of no power in the building, who cares? Everything you need is online. Easy class.
Nathan is fantastic. You only have 3 papers including the final. 2 of those papers he allows you to rewrite them for full credit. I would absolutely take him again.
You write an I-search "book," a long research paper. You get to pick your own topic. I wrote about finding a new career. His instructions are very clear. I worked/learned a lot about my topic, and how to write a long paper. The class was online but you can meet with him in his office. I did. He was very helpful. I'd take him again any time.
Loved this class. He really works with you and wants you to do well!
Professor Jones really motivated us to look inside ourself and reveal what our true values are. He is fair, and gives honest, thoughtful and articulate feedback. The online course is demanding, but you will actually learn proper English composition & research skills. It is a good preparation for further college education, and you will gain som
Nathan Jones was amazing! He made me fall in love with English. Not only did he help for papers, he helped uplift me when I was doubting myself. If you are able to meet him for office hours, I suggest you do so because he show's that he cares about you and your grades.
This was online. Professor Jones doesn't grade quickly. We are left waiting months for a grade on an assignment, even multiple assignments. Therefore we don't have any idea how well or poor we are doing till the semester is almost over. If you want a teacher who has good communication with students and actually grades your work, look elsewhere.
I took him for compp 2 online. He helped me a lot to improve my writing. He takes his time to give good feedback, it is very helpful. You can meet with him in his office to talk about your work. I met with him a couple of times, it was very helpful. He's nice, but be careful. He has high expectations. He can be a tough grader.
I took Nathans comp class three years ago, before I transferred to K-State. These days I write research papers in just about all of my classes. His book assignment walked us through writing a pretty compex research paper. I still use his helpful teaching, materials. If you want to transfer, you can take him. He gave me confidence in my college w
We're working on our I Search research. We started by meeting in the classrom, then around spring break we moved to online because of covid 19. Prof. Jones guided us through the change. His instructions are clear. He has given me timely feedback. He is very reliable, fair. I'm glad that I took him. I expect to get a good grade. No regrets.
This professor was horrible about expectations, took a long time to get back to me, if he even did. He also had to be reminded many, many times to post assignments and did post them so late not giving students enough time to complete. I did get an A because I did the work but I was so disappointed about his lack of participation.
I had Nathans online comp 2 class last semester and it was excellent. From my experience he gives clear instructions with clear expectations for each chapter that you write. Most of the time he grades papers in 7 days and give you a ton of comments. You get to revise and resubmit for higher grades. This was a really hard class. But worth it.
Im finishing Nathans class right now. He posts the lessons in advance, no problems. Youre writing a long project, so follow his instructions or you wont make it. Theres plenty of time to do his assignments but you have to budget your time. You can redo papers for higher grades. Work with him to pick a good topic for your project.
Dr Jones is a blessing! When I had cancer treatment, he worked with me around my needs. His kindness helped me finish the semester. I liked his different assignments, the art paper was my favorite. Im waitlisted to take his Comp II next semester. I really hope that I can get in.
Good professor, thoughtful course, challenging content, lots of writing, waiting list to get in.
I was in Nathans class when we suddenly switched from inclass to online because of covid. That was a frightening time. Nathan handled the change smoothly. He adjusted the assignments to reflect our new reality. His directions were clear, calming, reassuring. He has high expectations.
For the record, I took Prof Jones class because I'm a veteran. I can see that he still has some Army left in him. His instructions are by the numbers. He grades and answers email fast, using his system. His grading is tough though he gives you second chances. His feedback is direct. He doesn't play around. He'll tell you directly.
The I search is a crazy assignment but it helped me a lot to find my new job. I did some interviews for the assignment. The guy I interviewed liked me, hiring me to work in his company. I got this job because of this class. Thanks to Prof. Jones.
Currently enrolled in Nathan's Eng 122 online and would recommend him. Keeps things simple and to the point. You only have a few papers to write and he gives the option to resubmit for extra credit after his feedback, so the class should easily be an A.
One assignment due every week. As long as you stay on top of your work, you will get a good grade. Very flexible and easy to follow along.
I took him for three courses. His comments on papers were helpful. He always answered email quickly. He zoomed office hours daily. He grades assignments within a week. If you want A's just for showing up, you probably won't be happy with him.
Nathan Jones was a very nice professor. The work he gives out was very easy and he gives you good feedback on your papers. He is the perfect guy to take for this course.
I loved Nathan! His class was straight forward and pretty easy. He genuinely cares about his students and makes plenty of nice, funny, and engaging comments on your papers. Attendance is not required and I did not show up more than three to his class. First time I have ever regretted not going. He is an amazing professor!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
There was a paper due every couple of weeks, the first few weeks of the semester a small 500 word paper was due every week. Going to his class was pointless since we did all of the work outside of class, but sometimes he would give good examples for the papers. Not a tough grader and he always gave feedback on papers. Would take again 100%!
Nathan is a good teacher. All of his course materials are online but he does a good job explaining things in class too. He explains that in case of another covid lockdown all of his course materials will be online so we won't have disruptions. He has his office hours in the writing center which I like. He helped me a lot. I appreciate him.
AMAZING! took his online summer course and only had to write two papers. Each paper, we had the opportunity to revise our papers for extra credit. He gives very detailed feedback in your papers - I feel like a better writer after taking his course! He's extremely laid back and relational so suggest getting to know him for fun!!
I took his comp 1 summer class and really enjoyed it. He's kind, friendly. We wrote a couple of papers. If you want an A or B on them, you have to revise them a lot. Don't worry, his instructions are clear, he gives tons of feedback so you can rewrite to get the grade you want. I'm excited to take comp 2 from him in the fall.
I took his online class over the summer. He was super nice and a great grader. There were only 2 papers assigned for the class and he would allow corrections. My first paper went from an 82 to a 100. I definitely recommend taking his class. It's mostly an independent class but he is available if you have questions.
Took the online comp 1 summer class. There were only 3 papers with clear guidelines and he allowed corrections on the rough draft. If you follow his comments then he will literally give you a 100. Best summer class, definitely suggest taking
This was a really easy class, we only had 3 essays and 3 peer reviews all semester, he is a super easy grader, attendance was not mandatory. The only negative was he tended to not do very necessary things in class that weren't needed for the class. Easy A for sure!
Professor Jones is great! There are three papers throughout the semester that he gives plenty of time to complete. Many of his classes aren't necessary for the class and feel like a waste. He is an easy grader if you follow his guidelines! Minimal use of textbook.
Attendance wasn't mandatory and I stopped going to class after our 3rd/4th field trip around campus. When we actually had a lecture there wasn't much information being shared. Nathan isn't a harsh grader but he expects a lot from revisions including a two page cover letter. He's a nice guy but isn't a great teacher. I didn't learn much from him.
His materials are in canvas, he uses class to answer questions, give lectures. Attendance is encouraged not required. He has creative assignments. Like the art essay. We toured campus art and picked a painting that we wanted to research and write about. His feedback on my papers was very generous, helpful. We wrote 7 papers, some short, some long.
Nathan is a great teacher! I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. He gives you a ton of comments on papers then has you rewrite papers for extra credit. You can get the grade that you want. He has his office hours in the writing center, I found that very helpful. I'm taking him again in comp 2 this spring. Highly recommend him!
Nathan's class was well structured and unique compared to typical english classes. For the entire semester we had to do a research project called "I-Search," where we find a topic of your own personal liking and write about it. There was no homework, tests, just the research project. He cares a lot about his students and goes the extra mile to help
He is a great professor. I would take his class over again. He cares about us actually learning and he's good at it. In the 2 months in his class I have learned more than 4 years of high school.
I absolutely would take this class again! One of the easiest classes i've ever had to take in my life loved the professor he gave constructive feedback and all the opportunities needed for a 100% in that class. If your registering for classes stach him upppppppp!!!!! Best caring professor!
Lots of extra credit opportunities and attendance is not mandatory. His class is an easy A and you will learn a lot.
Nathan was a great professor and I learned a lot from him. He was really easygoing with his teachings and made sure to go in-depth with what he looked for in our writings. He also gave a ton of feedback which was helpful. Attendance not mandatory but it is helpful to be there.
My time in class did not feel very worthwhile- he did not actually do much teaching or activities, it was basically just reading the assignment sheets aloud (which were available online for us to read on our own) and talking about citations. The assignments were good and I appreciate the feedback he gave, but I'd have liked more meat to the class.
Excellent professor! Gave clear grading criteria along with example papers that detail exactly what he is looking for. The assignments are always due on Fridays, with an automatic extension until the following Monday if needed. Highly recommend if looking for a Composition One class!
His classes are laid back, he has a great sense of humor and he always has good lessons planned. He cares a lot about his students. You don't need go to class if you don't want. But if you skip or play with your phone during class, you'll miss out. I loved his office hours in the writing center. Bring a good attitude and you'll learn a ton.
I enjoyed his lectures that prepared us for the art essay, though my favorite was his lecture about the political and social origins of academic writing for the rhetorical analysis essay. He doesn't penalize you for skipping class. If you do go to class and pay attention, you will learn much about academic writing and culture. Highly recommended!
Nathan Jones slowly infiltrated his class with left-leaning politics. He talks about his "identity" and makes you write about your personal experience and controversial articles--the more controversy, the better. He believes that English could never be America's official language because English is always changing, but every language is changing.
Nathan is a careful, thoughtful, experienced professor. I've found him to be helpful in shaping my arguments. He often asks us to think of the topic more deeply. For some, he may appear liberal, for others he may appear conservative. You can count on him to challenge your assumptions, which is his job. I highly recommend him.
Professor Jones is very informal and open minded. He wants you to think deeply, and provides many thought-provoking assignments. However, he tends to repeat himself often and sometimes lecture felt like a waste of time. If writing is intimidating and you are more comfortable with a slower pace, his class is for you.
