If you complete all your assignments and attend class you will most likely get an A or B. He gives you feedback after correcting your essay and expects more from you as the semester continues. Very helpful during class time and office hours. Just make sure to do the work and you will pass.
worst teacher in the school. Dont take him ever!
Mr. Jones' english class was much appreciated. The lectures and assignments are crystal clear and Mr. Jones makes a great effort in doing that. He manages to make the material interesting enough to pay attention and his humor and friendly personality eases you into the class. Do the work, you pass - give effort and get an A. Fair grader as well/
Great teacher to work with and helps you a lot during office hours. Make sure you take advantage of it.
Mr. Jones is my favorite teacher ever! He is absolutley hilarious and takes the time and effort to get to know all of his students and makes sure they know eachother. My experience in his class was a fun and enlightening one. He is very helpful and very kind. He also makes the class fun.
Want to build your critical thinking and research analysis? Take Professor Jones! He is very helpful with A LOT of examples and always makes sure we understand the materials throughly. He is hilarious and makes class enjoyable. My experience in his class was a fun and enlightening one.
Great class. Writing is not my greatest, so essays were tough for me. Easy topics, straight forward and lots of fun! You get a brain full in each section. For those who love to learn, it's a great class.
Mr. Jones is an excellent teacher. Sure, there may be a ton of writing and essays, but it has helped me improve my skills in composition and reading. You have to attend class regularly and do the work and study to pass with an A. I've taken 2 of his classes and am taking him for another. He's the type of person who genuinely cares about your grade.
He spent much of class lecturing the students rather than lecturing on the lesson. He has potential to be a good teacher and makes very logical arguments but if he spent more time on his lessons and TEACHING rather than yelling at his students, his class would be excellent.
Great teacher. Super helpful, he wants his students to always understand. If you're willing to do your part and let him help you, he will do everything to make you succeed. He is a great teacher and really helped me improve my writing skills. Not to mention he is hilarious and makes the class very enjoyable. Good teacher, definitely recommend him.
Prof. Jones is an awesome teacher! He really opens up your mind throughout the course. His class teaches you to be a better reader and writer. He seems a little intimidating at first but he's actually a really nice guy. If you need help with anything, you can always go to his office hours and he will clarify. Take him if you really wanna learn!
I was nervous when I started this class because it had been a while since I've taken English. Mr. Jones almost scared me off, but I was intrigued by the books we were going to read. Seriously, best English class I have ever had. It's not easy, but he's SO helpful. Take his class! You will learn so much about the world, English, and yourself!
In ENGL100, Mr. Jones is straight forward with students and works hard to help each student. He has a Passion in what he does and that is a blessing, because without the three CCC's that he has used to teach for many years, he would been a really difficult teacher. The three C's is Care, Compassion, and Concern! Best English professor iv'e met! =)
Man, I wish I could take Mr. Jones wherever I go! He is an amazing teacher, and really cares about his students. He makes the class enjoyable with his eccentric personality and humor. You learn a lot. Stay on top of the homework and you'll be fine. Take his class! You won't regret it; I know I didn't! ;D I'm definitely going to take him again!
Mr. Jones is a very great teacher cares and helps his students a lot his class is not boering like other english classes very if you need something he will help you out very good teacher must take
Mr. Jones is a great professor. He is very funny, kind, and caring, but you have to work for your grade in this class. If you're struggling, he is always willing to help. I highly recommend him!
Mr. Jones is an awesome professor! He does give chances but don't expect it when you really don't deserve it. I could've gotten a better grade, but you get out what you put in. I wish I had put more effort in his class. Definitely would take him again!
I took his hip hop english class. He's very nice and our conversations were always exciting. Make sure you go to class and get help in tutoring. Overall he was a good teacher. You get the grade you deserve.
He's aggressive, ruthless, tireless, militant, intimidating, and tenacious. In all honesty, I nearly despise him. All that said, do I think he is a great teacher? Absolutely. I believe he's one of the best that Skyline has to offer.
Mr. Jones is probably the best English teacher Skyline has to offer. If you're a Hip Hop/Jazz fan, this guy knows his stuff. Not the easiest assignments, but he grades very fair and he incorporates his own life experiences in the course material which is very interesting.
My most influential teacher! He challenges his students to think critically and look at the subjects from all angles. The things I learned in his class I can take with me in everyday life and I feel like a better and more open person! He grades fairly so don't expect to get a good grade if you don't put in the work but he is happy to help! A+!
Mr. Jones is an excellent professor. I took his classes English 846/100 as well. I liked his teaching and class so much that I took him again for a third semester in a row! He is one of the most strict, but straightforward teachers I've ever had, and he really cares about you and your grade in his class. He helps you with your writing skills, too.
Very serious man. You do NOT want to be on his bad side. He is far from easy, but highly recommended. You just need to keep up with the work and show up motivated. He is very philosophical and makes you think for yourself. Maturity is an absolute must. If you're not, don't bother
This is my second semester taking a course with Professor Jones and I find it a challenge that I am able to share with my family members. The challenge comes from you and not him because he makes you think outside the box. I wish I had more instructors who had that mindset to teach you to be creative.
Mr. Jones is a very passionate and dynamic educator, who whole-heartedly belives in educating the mind, in order to succeed in life. His teaching methods derives from "real-life" encounters which gels well with his "current" persona which also grabs the attention of young people. To say the least, Mr. Jones is well-learned and fair. Very Enjoyable!
I've been with Mr. Jones for three straights semester. Mr. Jones is a very passionate and dynamic educator, he truly believes that educating the mind, is the only way to succeed in life. His teaching makes you think and opens your mind. Mr. Jones is a fantastic teacher, you will get something from his class. He's fair but firm!
Mr. Jones is a fantastic teacher, mentor, everything. He's very student oriented and was very enjoyable to learn from for 3 semester. You will learn something being in his class. Fair but Firm!
Mr. Jones is a hidden gem! The amount of passion he has for teaching is amazing! He is willing to go the extra mile to help out his students and he keeps the class interesting with great topics for hw and essays. My overall experience with Mr. Jones was great and I highly recommend taking him. Thank you Mr. Jones for everything -LS
I've recommended Mr. Jones to all of my friends, although he is not an easy grader, he will help you if he sees you struggling. He is very compassionate and will have sympathy for you if you just talk to him. I took him for three 3 semesters. I always struggled with essays, now I've greatly improved my writing skills and can thank him for that!
From day one I got to speak my mind. I really enjoyed being in his class. It was one of those classes you will actually learn something in the GEs. I will always remember my time in his class. The work is not to difficult. Do the work, and speak your mind.
Positive energy at all times. Will help you succeed beyond his class. He is one of those people you need in your life
His class is bigger than English class!! I am so happy to meet this professor in my life, and he significantly changed my world view. As long as you are serious about your education and pay attention to what he wants, this class is not mean to you. He is super helpful!!
I would recommend Professor Jones to any student who is need of any english class . I came to Skyline College unsure of what english teacher to choose and I am 1000% glad I chose Professor Jones! Take his class, he is KNOWLEDGABLE and truly a kind hearted man!
Mr. Jones is a wonderful teacher with a lot of heart and truth to his words. Rarely does he sugar coat things and he 'keeps it real' as he says. He has high expectations for his students and will gladly open his office doors for you in regards to school or life itself. Great teacher overall and would recommend.
mr. Jones is a great professor that knows what he's talking about and keeps you on your toes, he makes you a better writer and makes you think beyond the normal standard I would highly recommend Mr. Jones I had fun and learned to take a new perspective on literature ????????
Mr. Jones is an amazing teacher! His class is easy to attend because its fresh and out of the box. Each day is different and because of that you're open to so many different ways to explore literature. I encourage anyone who needs to take English 110 to take his class!
Mr. Jones is an amazing teacher. The literature in his class will keep you interested as well as challenged. He pushes you to think outside of the box and he really wants you to take away something from each lesson. I recommend anyone who needs to take English 110 to take his class. You won't be disappointed!!
This class goes over a lot of issues regarding power and race allowing you to open your mind and think critically about what goes around us. While he is not an easy grader, he gives you a month to do your essay and makes you do rough drafts to help you structure your time He has no problem helping you if you need anything. I highly recommend him.
Awesome professor, I highly recommend him. He really helped me bring out my writing skills.
He is incredible. Many told me he was hard and not to take him but I am happy I didn't listen to them. He expects you to be at a college level which we should be. If you do your best and communicate with him at all times he will do his best to help you through it. I am part of the ASTEP program and will have him for all of my English classes.
Mr. Jones is an amazing man. Not only does he prep MONTHS before class, he goes into detail and grabs your attention to all required texts. Homework is doable, just do it, you'll pass, just email him if needed! He is understanding and reassuring. Remember to read, the tests will be easy and essays will fall right into place.
Mr. Jones isn't just a teacher. He is a father figure who cares for his students and wants the best out of everyone. His class may be a bit challenging; however,if you dissect every information from the books and you will pass. His English class was definitely a class to enjoy for learning purposes.
He scared the crap out of me, thought I was gonna drop the class but it's just his way of showing he cares. Mr. Jones is a tough instructor but the BEST, he is helpful and actually cares about your grade. His class isn't for the slacker! You earn your grade. I am taking the lessons I learned from his class and carrying them for rest of my life.
I took his English class over the summer and even though it was compressed, with every week an essay due and studying a new form of English, I was always excited to go. This is Professor Jones' talent, he keeps the class entertaining and fresh. His personality is vibrant and robust. He encourages discussion about the texts, which are provoking
Great class great teacher. My writing dramatically improved. Take this class serious. Mr. Jones is very easy to talk to and intelegent. He maked the class intresting and fun
Mr.Jones is a very different type of teacher. He makes his class fun and keeps you engaged because you discuss a lot of different topics and issues. This class is not an easy A but Mr.Jones is always willing to lend a helping hand. If you put in the effort, he is willing to work with you to help you achieve the grade you want! overall great class!
I highly recommend this class. Writing skills was improve drastically. Class was never boring and discussion was very interesting. Have to work hard and and you'll get the grade you deserve. The summer session went by really fast, but very worth it. Really enjoyed this class and had a good time writing the essays and engaging in discussions.
Jones is probably not what you'd expect, but he will definitely teach you something and get you to write. He can help you a lot and the class will not be boring either. I'd recommend him over most English professors.
One of the best teacher I ever had!He made me think outside the box and I learned so much more than just about literature! I wish all teachers could be like him. Mr.Jones is truly about grasping something for life and not just copying from the board! I truly encourage you to take him. Summer class was short, but he was ALWAYS there to help!!
Mr. Jones is the best teacher ever. Everyone should experience a teacher like him at least once. He comes of hard and strict at first but he will really work with you if you talk to him one on one. However, he does want every assignment turned in and to come to class every day. Just handle your business.
Mr. Jones was pretty intimidating on the first day of class. But as time progressed, he was very understanding and helpful to the needs of the student. There is a lot of work, but from that work you really learn how to write a college paper in MLA format. If you join his class, be prepared to work hard and learn.
This class was no joke. Since it was the summer session the work load was a little heavy. This isn't a simple "go through the motions" class. I definitely recommend it if you want to learn something. You'll learn and develop yourself as a reader and a writer.
Great teacher. Mr.Jones is a cool straight forward knowledge teacher. Don't b.s him. He is very helpful and wants to see all his students pass. However he isn't going to give you a passing grade you have to work for it. A lot of work but you learn a lot it's worth taking his class.
By far best professor I've ever had. Love Mr Js class. Hell definitely make you work, but its worth it.
He is a straight-foward teacher, all you have to do is come to class and do your work. He tends to be a little rough in the beginning, but that's how he feels each student out. He motivates you to do well in his class and also gets into very deep detail on the history of African-American slavery.
Jones is the best teacher i've had in all my school years. He motivates you to succeed in life and will help you along the way while taking his class. May come off as hard and mean but he's a tough love teacher. Do your homework and show up to class and you will pass. If you need help talk to him one on one you'll be glad you did. RECOMMEND!
The most amazing lecturer I've had, however, If you are thinking of taking any class with him for an easy A, his classes are not for you. That being said, you WILL learn and get an actual education if you take a class with him. He puts a lot of time into his class and making sure students are well taken care of. Do not be afraid to ask questions!
His curriculum made literature much more realistic by using works that is much more resent than other standard English courses.
Jones is very passionate about his work, a man with great understanding of not only english, but political science as well. took english 110 with him summer 2015, and loved it. It was definitely a game changer in my eyes. A essay a week, and lots of reading, but the reading are great books as well. Must take, if you seek to learn, and not just pass
Professor Jones is honest. He wants you to learn. Do the work and keep showing progression in writing and you'll be fine. His style is interesting. Definitely not boring. I would take his class again. You have to work for your grade. He listens to you and always gives you feed back. You always know what is asked of you clearly.
Overall great teacherperson. Explains the content. Not boring. I did not miss class because I felt like I would miss something important. Do not expect an easy A. I recommend this class because you will learn a lot.
I took Mr Jones for English 100 over the summer, and enjoyed it a lot. At first his class does seem intimidating because it is a lot of work to write and read a book a week, but you get used to it after a while. Mr. Jones is always there for you and wants you to come get help on your essays. Overall, great teacher and class. I would recommend him.
He has been one of the greatest teachers I've had in all my academic life. His feedback was very helpful and he's a person to whom you can relate to in many aspects. Highly recommended
This is by no means an easy class, but Professor Jones is always available to help all his students succeed. He's extremely passionate when it comes to teaching which makes for an engaging learning environment. While most classes require memorization and regurgitation, this class forces you to think for yourself. I highly recommend this class!!
Very passionate about the material, but be prepared for some no-nonsense work. If you can get past his frankness, he's a rather cool professor
After transferring to a university, I begin to realize all of the life lessons I learned. Skills like essay writing, presentation, marking a book, poetry, etc. His poetry, music, passion, critical thinking, and reasons for teaching English all have a meaning. I highly suggest going to his office hours because he can teach you more than justenglish.
Mr Jones is not only an amazing person in class, but also outside of it. He is always there for his students and is willing to help them. He really cares about his students and wants them to learn. I really recommend this class.
Professor Jones has been the best teacher/ motivater I have ever experienced. He is really passionate about teaching and the succuess of his students. Yes, he is strict but that is what makes him a great professor. He pushes you to learn and think beyond the normal. I left every class learning beyond the norm of an English class. I suggest taking!
Professor Jones is truly an exceptional individual. I can say that he is the best professor I have ever had in my life. He is highly educated, intelligent, friendly, inspirational, has a great sense of humor, and etc. Take him, because you will never EVER have a chance to learn so much for so cheap. Take advantage. He is understanding, and helpful.
Professor Jones has greatly impacted my life and views of everything around me. I began in English 100 and was supposed to move after that semester but instead I stayed just to be able to take his 110 class. He is the greatest teacher I have ever met and will go above and beyond to help you through everything. Do yourself a favor and take his class
His class is not hard if you attend and do all your work. He is a excellent teacher! He cares about his students and is always willing to help. His ASTEP English course is interesting and well developed class. You will learn many things that I assure you didn't know before. Highly recommend taking his class.
This professor has made a huge impact on me. The quality of the class, far exceeded my expectations. The content was vital and relevant to our lives. It was delivered in a way that was interesting, culturally competent, and always respectful. This is an educator that is truly invested in what it means to educate and help to enrich others.
If you are looking to be woke. This is the professor who will bluntly wake your mind. Professor Jones is a very dedicated instructor who will not sugar coat things for you. The literature he has his student read are always exceptional. I do not regret going into this class. The work isn't hard, and it isn't easy. You just have to use your head.
Great class. Jones is a professor that will greatly improve your critical thinking skills. His lectures get you to think more deeply on your readings, and helps you on the papers that you are assigned. Don't be afraid to ask for his help. If you can't afford his required readings from the bookstore, he will let you borrow his. Show up to class.
Wonderful professor! I really appreciate all his work towards all his students. Be prepared to read all assignment reading. We read a few books but the two I really like are "A Raisin in the Sun" & "How to Make Love to a Negro without Getting Tried". Writing a lot as well. Trust me if you visit his office for help you will get a lot of feed back.
If you are seeking a class that is truly insightful, demands critical thinking, and will heavily educate you in writing various forms of papers- This class is for you. The reading materials were interesting and relate to current events. If you come in to class with an open mind and are willing to put in the work, the sky is the limit!
Mr Jones is truly a one-of-a-kind teacher in my years as a student. He is a prime example of someone who actually TEACHES the students something. The stories and knowledge he has to share will surely leave an impression on you. The work he gives out is albeit a bit challenging, but it's worth it because what you get out of it actually matters.
Great class and great professor. I took it over the summer so it was a very accelerated 6 week course. There is a lot of reading but the books are interesting, and essays weekly. The professor is very helpful so if the info is hard in class, he always welcomes students to his office hours. Very knowledgeable and interacts with the whole class.
Took him in an accelerated summer course meaning that the work itself would be copious and fast-paced; however, I still easily got an A just by simply listening to what he said in class, putting time and effort into my essays, and participating in class discussions. Open your mind to what he says even if you will disagree. You won't regret it.
I had Mr. Jones for the summer course, which means it was an accelerated class. At first, he might seem a little intimidating, but as you get to know him longer, you will find that he's an approachable and funny mentor that really cares about his students. He has high expectations from his students and expects them to be at their best.
One of the best professors I've had! He tries to scare people off during the first week by giving a lot of work but as the weeks go by it definitely gets easier. I stayed and surprisingly got a good grade! He opens minds and makes you think deeper about the world. Stay committed, work hard, and put time and effort to the work then you'll pass.
Excellent professor. He has a degree in sociology as well, so you really learn to understand the literature you're reading in the context of the background during the time. I wish I chose to take his class during a full semester instead of summer so I could enjoy it longer. He made one of my least favorite subjects very enjoyable. Would recommend.
He is an interesting professor. I took him summer 2016 for English 110. Surely the class is packed with reading material and writing, which is a good way to keep you engaged with material. Professor Jones is willing to listen and work with the students, which is a positive attribute. Try to keep an open mind; and don't let him intimidate you!
At first, Professor Jones may seem a bit intimidating, but you'll soon find out that he is quite the opposite. He absolutely puts in effort to show his students that he cares for them, as long as you are willing to put in the effort required. He will teach you a lot about the "real world" and what it takes to succeed. He is one of the best!
I've never taken a class that required this much reading or studying. But, also the best class I have taken here at Skyline. Prof. Jones is no joke, he means well but he also means business! If your aren't going to take his class serious, then don't bother taking it. If you want to become a little more 'WOKE" then take his class!
I took ENGL 110 during the summer and it was a challenging but rewarding course. Lots of reading and essays but he makes the directions clear and is available to meet during office hours to help with papers. He encourages a sense of community within the class. I got to know all my classmates. You truly get what you put into your work.
By far the best English professor that Ive taken. He cares about his students and their success and is understanding of everybodys situation. He continues to mentor me as I depart from CC and is someone that I will continue to look up to. He gave me confidence in my writing and learned so much from his class. Highly recommended !
I havent had a teacher in any school I went to (high school included) that actually cared about his students. Mr. Jones helped me understand and utilize my skills to best abilities before I entered my undergraduate program. I took all 3 of his classes (846,100,110) and enjoyed his lectures. Just got to class, and ask for help and youll pass.
Mr. Jones is by far one of my favorite teachers on campus. He not only has prepared me for a 4-year, but has inspired me through his lectures and office hours. You definitely leave the class knowing that what he has taught can be applied to life and your future success. He is super passionate about the students and teaching, and overall is caring.
He is a nice teacher, his lectures are interesting and it's easy to catch up. He is always available in his office hours and you may consider visiting him, it's very useful. It's hard to get an A but if you follow his reading guide and don't miss any lecture, you will be fine.
Mr. Jones is a really good teacher! If you listen carefully to the lectures, take notes, and ask for help, you will do well on your essays. Make sure to read the books so that you can make connections and discuss it in class. Also, if you take this class, you're able to listen to some good music!
Mr. Jones is one of my favorite teachers, he's funny, outgoing, and LOUD. I'm glad I've had him for two semesters straight. He's very inspirational, enthusiastic about his lectures, and will DEFINITELY open your eyes on racism and its history, which is very interesting if you're into the topic of racism and rights. Gives helpful feedback on essays!
I hate English but taking his class made me hate it a little less. The material he chose made me 'woke' and I've learned so much from him. It seems more like an ethnic studies course, but the topics chosen are so beneficial in understanding the real world. Take copious notes on what he says. It'll help u on ur essays. U gotta work HARD for ur grade
Prof. Jones is an amazing teacher, he knows how to deliver ideas and get you awoke. I honestly loved writing essays after his class. However, its not a easy A class (He might be a tough grader) and you need to read a lot of stuff in order to produce a well written essay. This guy was deadass trying to get me into his 110 class!!!
Professor Jones encourages active participation for the sake of collective learning, and that is something that really made the class very interactive and profound at the same time. I have learned a lot from his class, and I am taking him again for next semester.
Great professor, passionate about what he teaches about, would definitely take him again.
Professor Jones is spectacular at his job. I always left that classroom inspired and more curious about the world we live in. He makes sure you feel safe and very much cared for. Everything is pretty easy and straight forward. Jones makes it really easy to pass his class you just have to do the work and if he knows you're putting effort you'll pass
Great content, and relevant topics of study. Good books are chosen for papers as well
I took Nathan Jones English 110 class over the spring of 2019. this was was intense and goes by fast, but along as you do all the work then you will be fine. there are 4 essays that you will have to do over the semester. I would take his class again!! don't be afraid to ask him questions it will help you to be successful in his class.
The first day of the class seems intimidating but after you get into the rhythm of how his class operates the class actually goes by fast. His writings assignments are easy to do, he likes details in your explanations. Overall great class, great teacher.
Amazing proffesor, if you show up do your work you will pass and he gives a lot of great feedback on your work.
Professor Jones class is a class that I actually enjoyed going to. Everyday we were learning something new. You read at least 4 books during the semester and has groupwork all through the semester. Just do the work and show up to class and participate and you'll most definitely pass the class. Inspiring lectures everyday!
He's always available whenever reach out to him. Since this is an English class he assigns essays but as long as you are on top of any of your work along with the essays, you should be good. He makes you work for the grade you deserve. Take advantage of his office hours because his criteria really helps
His Black Literature class was great! His lectures are really informative and open your eyes to racial issues, and I love how the class is structured to emphasize participation. He makes it easy to get excited about class and encourages any and all input on the topic at hand.
Good professor fo English
In short, Professor Jones is a great English professor. Lectures, reading, basically everything you do in the class really helps with your essays, so ask questions, especially about the readings. He is clear in his answers when you ask questions, sometimes his answers can be quite lengthy, but in that happening you get more ideas to help writing.
I had the joy of having Professor Jones for two semesters. Not only is he relatable to students, but he always delivers incredibly intriguing and engaging lectures. We frequently have essays, but he also gives u a reasonable amount of time to workshop and visit him before completion.
Great teacher! Amazing person and very engaged and passionate about what he has to teach. Although this class is very interesting and
You will pick up some good information in this class, and even though he's a nice and helpful professor, he assigns kind of a lot of homework with close deadlines. I dropped this class because the theses are too black and white (no pun intended). I like a nonpartisan, and creative approach to my writing, and he just doesn't offer this.
DO NOT DROP THIS CLASS!! Even if you are waitlisted Professor Jones accepted as many people as he can on his waitlist. The first day of class he seemed a little mean but I think it was an act. Professor Jones really cares about his students and their education. Hes an awesome person!! Hes also very understanding. I wish I took him earlier(:
Professor Jones is a man of his word. He is genuine, intelligent, and extremely passionate about what he does as a professor. This is just one of his many perks. He's also a shapeshifter. When its necessary, he will extend gratitude and empathy for the sake of bringing forth the light. A man of the people. Nathan Jones is one of the best! LOVE HIM!
As a transition into online classes due to COVID, I had great difficulty in navigating canvas. I reached out to this professor for help in how to go through the modules and recorded lectures. He emailed me which stated that I was not the only one struggling and perhaps I'd be better off dropping the class? What kind of help is that?
It is hard transition of moving everything online especially during COVID and condensing material for a summer course. But if thats the case then the amount of assignments should not be astronomical if both the students & the professor are struggling. Its hard to understand what he means during the lectures and its reflecting in my work.
Main criticism about Jones was that he REFUSED to listen to the advice of his students. He doesnt know how to navigate Canvas and when we pointed it out he was too PRIDEFUL to admit his faults about grades and assignments. The class was online before the pandemic started so there is no excuse that he didnt have time to accustom himself to Canvas
4 essays (5 pages each), 4 presentations (lasts about 5-10 per group), 4 books, and 2 exams. Mr. Jones is smart, kind, and caring. He will help you along the way and will provide you the tools to succeed. Note: Always read/listen his critiques as it will help you make a better essay/presentation in the future.
He has a doctorate & he treats others as though they are below him. He doesn't respond to emails, canvas page is a complete mess and makes doing his class like a chore. Attendance is mandatory and the books are written by him so you'll shoot yourself in the foot when you critique his work due to his ego. No answer is enough even if you're right.
WARNING: THIS IS NOT AN ENGLISH CLASS His class is a soap box for him to preach about racism and inflate his ego. If you want to learn English, do not take this class-- you won't learn anything about reading or writing.
Prof. Jones is very helpful if you need anything from him. He will always be straightforward and real with you and he speaks his mind, so if you are offended with that you should get used to it if you take him as a teacher. He also plays different types of genre of music in class.
I'm so very glad to have taken Professor Jones' class. Despite being on Zoom the whole semester, I got through class with my head held higher. He makes participation easy and encourages all to take the mic. There's a lot of work but as long as you follow the reading and assignment plan, you can't fail. The class subjects are very interesting.
RUN, don't walk! I knew I would drop this class the moment we met - rude, unprofessional, and closed-minded. He replies to you with his back turned, does not even look at you when you ask him questions, NEVER replies to emails, and blatantly ignores you whenever he sees fit. Disappointing, egocentric, and condescending. I would rate 0/5 if I could.
I respect Prof. Jones as a person, but his class is kind of stress full. I feel as if he expects a lot with our essays with the few lessons we had. His class is even really fast pace, as I was supposed to read four books throughout the whole semester. If you are into that, give him a shot.
Worst professor I have had at Skyline. He can be rude/condescending and doesn't give adequate feedback on papers. He also teaches biased ideologies in a class that is supposed to be about critical thinking. Avoid if possible.
We had to do 4 essays, 5 group presentations, 1 midterm, and 1 final. These were all based on the 4 books we had to read, so if you read frequently and take it all in then you should be good to go. He has office hours after class and is very helpful. If you are online, get ready to turn on your camera and interact with him and your peers :)
Mr. Jones is VERY passionate about what he teaches respectfully, but it isn't English. His class is more like History of Ethic Groups. He assigns a lot of group projects for an online course & instructions weren't always clear so groups would slip up. He doesn't answer to his emails often. Expect lots of projects & essays on controversial topics.
Mr. Jones is a terrible professor. I don't know how he was pre-sabbatical, but I guess it was much better. This class gives very little time to do work and it very poorly organized -- the first assignments were due at 10 AM of the first day. Grading is harsh, and many students dropped the class. He tells students to give good reviews on RMP.
Please don't take professor Jones! After taking a sabbatical, he seems to have lost his merit. His work is very unorganized and many links do not work. He also very condescending, and doesn't take advice very well. THIS IS NOT an English class, this is 100% about African American Studies. Expect to do groupwork in a "asynchronous" class.
PLEASE READ. He is a harsh, and sometimes unfair, educator. If you need any help in the class, you will likely be ignored, referred to the class material or be told that "you should already know this, do your own research." I don't know if he was a good teacher but now, I advise anyone to take another professor or wait another semester.
I had to withdraw from the class because he's very unorganized and when asking for help he's condescending and rude. When asking a question, he will just copy and paste from the assignment and doesn't have any empathy. His modules are so disorganized, especially group projects, and expects you to just understand immediately. Please don't take him.
This professor can be quite challenging. While the lectures are informative, getting help or feedback is difficult. I found Unstuck AI and the free textbook helpful for study prep. Overall, be prepared to put in the work.
Took this professor based on RMF but regret it. This isn't an English class it's basically African American studies, with all readings from that lens. He grades like it's a graduate course, never satisfied with your work. No compassion asked a question and got a rude response. If you want excessive work, strict grading, and no diversity, take him.
Not an english class it's essentially African American studies. Every assignment revolves around African American books and poetry. He is an unnecessarily tough grader. He grades as if this is a graduate level course, not an undergraduate class.Very first time I got anything under an A in writing in college, this is not my first english class.
Jones is a legend in my eyes. His class is English but his curriculum is African American History. Just a heads up, the topics can be intense as he will get into the topic of the psychological effect of US Slavery and Segregation. It will get the student really thinking. He is always down to help you and will give you very honest feedback.
Allows students a time frame of the final exam being opened, only to send petty emails (filled with grammatical mistakes) when they were not all done on the first day of the exam's availability. Course is interesting, would be improved if he could maintain professionalism.
AVOID! He set a 10am-12am window for the midterm of an ONLINE CLASS with no schedule. If you worked during that time and couldn't reschedule, he basically said "sucks to be you, here's an F" and turned YOU into the bad guy for not "being amenable to him" despite him "doing his best to help all students." His high rating here is almost offensive.
1 Unbearably disorganized. Assignments outdated by years, showing up or vanishing randomly. 2 Assigns HIS books and a research project on HIMSELF. 3 Instructions are contradictory. If asked questions, will paste module into email. 4 Rarely satisfied with level of detail in an essay even if it's at the page limit 5 Enforces daily posts with no grade
I had reached out for clarification on instructions since I was scheduled to work while he had assigned a timed window, yes a timed window for an asynchronous class, for our midterm then edited the module after I had sent the email, and then proceeded to reply to me after he did so asking if I had even read the instructions.
Assigns a "group" project after every book, but if your group leaves after the first rearrangement, then you're forced to take the load because it doesn't matter if you're by yourself. No downtime between each reading material, assignments are unlocked on Mondays in an online class. Has high expectations as if English is your only class.
He assigns many group projects and does not care whether group members actually contribute to the work. The exams are graded extremely harshly. Although the course is called English, it mainly serves as a cover for materials focused on Black studies. Lack professionalism and disorganized module. I cant identify any positive aspects of his teaching.
Just do not take this class, you will not learn anything.
