This class was an easy "A". He is a cool guy, I would recommend him.
better if you have previous stats experience
He rarely posts on BlackBoard or emails his students, and is downright rude in lecture. I know a lot of people who dropped his class before midterms because it was so miserable. DO NOT take him.
This professor was great! He was helpful. There was multiple assignments and quizes. Besides that his class was great . I got an A
This class was easy. over the 11 day course (2 of which were test days) there were roughly 60+ assignments. but they were simple questions and easy to do. He is willing to work with you and responds quickly. but WATCH THE DAILY VIDEOS COMPLETELY they are helpful, he will tell you which Q's to do or don't do, and probably hide extra credit in there.
There are a lot of homework assignments, but they're very easy and you can always work on it with a friend or use your friend's old workbook. He does quizzes sometimes but tells you before hand. There is CPR, but he provides you with a step-by-step outline of what you will be graded on in the assignment. Attendance is a large part of your grade.
I'm probably the stupidest person on the planet when it comes to anything involving math, so this class was the hardest I've ever taken in college even though I'm a junior. However, Nathan is super chill and nice and willing to help. You can still get a good grade even if you bomb all the exams, attendancehomework is a big part of the grade.
Cool dude, sarcastic as all get out but cool. Homework is not hard, tests are too bad as long as you get and understand the review materials he gives you you'll pass. He also gives 3 extra credit points on tests for being able to spell his name.
He is the most un helpful person I have ever meet, do NOT take him for an online class. Emailing him with questions will get you no where, rude answers. The due dates are very unclear, you have to search really hard in old assignment folders to find them. His directions on how to do assignments and projects are also very unclear and vague.
Math is not my thing at all, but this class wasn't too bad. Professor gets back to emails pretty quick. If you go to office hours, he will basically give you answers to assignments. Go to class and recitation if you want to pass.
He takes attendance every class so you have to show up. Everything is really easy though.
Overall a pretty good professor. Attendance is checked everyday so show up for class. That being said, if you semi pay attention, write down what is gone over, and turn in the few small projects throughout the year, you'll get an A.
Nathan I think is a good guy but comes across as a pompous jerk in class. He's arrogant, a bully, and mean sometimes. However, if you go to his office hours he's a totally different person. This is a basic statistics class. Show up, do the homework (which is so easy), study the material and you will get an A. Tests are very straight forward.
Koebcke comes off as sarcastic or kind of rude. He is a cool guy though. He is stuck in between a young college graduate and a man, but he is professional/smart. Tons of homework. Statistics was kinda hard for me although I came out with an A. Do you work even though its boring and meaningless. Exams is somewhat hard. Will be busy.
This one is the worst EVER. The content was easy for me but 8hw per day, didnt accept late submission. Using Videos from previous yrs N theyre in the wrong order (old book) (webcam no slides N 10min each w/4min petting his hair). GRADING CRITERIA? Yes, but he "taught" me that "friends on fb" IS NOT a random sample -3 (for an online class? really?)
Never take his winter class! If you guys want to take STA 210 in summer or winter, take Amanda's! I and my friend took STA in winter. She told me Amanda was so nice and helpful.
This man refuses to be polite. Given multiple opportunities, the previous suggestions that this man is outright a jerk working the system at uk is spot on. This man has little to no respect for anyone - don't ask questions, don't even make eye contact. Drop this class, and take it with someone who has a soul.
Rude at times. Easy class, you have about 9-10 homework assignments per day for his winter course plus a few papers, quizzes and tests mixed in. Concepts weren't too difficult though, especially if you have some background in math.
Not going to lie this online class is a lot of work. You have 10 assignments due a day. You have a couple papers which are simple, make sure you follow the rubric EXACTLY because he's a tough grader. Make sure to turn in work on time because he doesn't allow late grades. Overall not a bad class, put forth effort the effort and you will get an A.
Nathan is easily the most disrespectful professor I have ever met in my entire life. He spends most of class dwelling over his varsity days on the soccer team in high school, and repeats himself nonstop. He is extremely inconsiderate and will tell people they're stupid if they answer incorrectly. Please please please stay away from this professor.
I feel like a lot of people don't understand his dry sense of humor. He's not a bad guy at all and was very helpful when I had mono missed almost three weeks of class last semester. If you talk to him one on one, he's a lot nicer than his persona in class would make you think. Class involves a lot work, but it's honestly not bad.
This guy really doesn't teach much at all. The concepts in STA296 are pretty simple, but the fact that he doesn't teach them could make someone who has never had the course struggle a bit. I don't recommend taking this guy as I've saw work from other sections and they seem to be pretty spot-on - also makes u sit with no electronics or anything so..
Very sarcastic guy but clear on the material. Homework every night.
Ah Nathan... He's a bit of a character and often makes fun of himself for having cancer which is interesting. Every lecture is worth 10 points so showing up is critical. His class is really just a lot of busy work both in and out of the classroom and it isn't hard to succeed. Just take his class so you can get your core credit.
Nathan is an interesting guy. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone unless he is your only option for Stats. Nathan talks about his cancer a lot and it's extremely uncomfortable. He is understanding if you miss class, but you need to talk to him first. His workbook grades are 100% participation. His content is extremely hard to understand.
Self deprecating humor related to his cancer. Very controlling of the environment in his classroom and won't let you use any technology. It's a hard environment to learn in, which will make you feel like you're in middle school again. I wouldn't take him again by any means, even if I am receiving an A in this class. Please avoid him for your sake.
Keobcke is funny, in a morbid way. He has battled with life threatening cancer multiple times (even though he is only 30) and takes life by a grain of salt. He is a good professor.
Nathan is not a terrible person, but his class is simply boring. He does care wether his students pass but is just there to get his jobs done. I wouldnt take him again, but the class was not my least favorite Ive taken.
for STA 296 2nd exam had an average of 68% don't take him he makes the material harder and doesn't teach.
Nathan wasn't as horrible as everyone says on here. However, he does create his own exams, so they are much more difficult than the common hour exams. I would recommend taking a professor who does the common hour exam because I heard it is much easier. Nathan is not a mean person at all, and he is very helpful with the project.
He is not a bad teacher, but class is just so boring. He reads word for word off a powerpoint everyday which is not very helpful. He creates his own exam so you do not take the common hour and his can be very hard. He is very helpful with the project and homework but just doesn't teach material very well and goes too fast in class.
Hes not an awful teacher but he doesnt actually teach, just reads word for word from the powerpoints. A lot of busy work which got annoying. Class is boring and he speaks to students as if were 12 years old (no phones or computers, yells at the whole class if someone packs up 1 min before class ends) stats is an easy class- get a different prof.
One of the worst professors at the University of Kentucky. All he does in class is read off slides that he did not make. He does not show you how to do your homework and when you ask he laughs at you. He is degrading and makes you feel stupid if you don't understand something. His exams are all fill in the blank, while other prof. are mult. choice
The textbook is used every class and for homework. During class he is strict about having your phones put up and no electronics. He is also very understanding for a group project mishap. If a partner isn't holding up their slack he will see and fix it OR take points off for that single person.
Degrades students for asking questions and laughs at them instead of trying to help. Does not teach well enough for students to know how to do their homework. He grades extremely hard on the final project, yet gives you barely any guidelines. I would never take this professor again, and I worn everyone against it. Goodluck.
He reads from lecture slides that are not even made by him but he takes attendance for a grade. He treats you like high schoolers and constantly is saying you shouldnt be on your phone, you shouldnt be working on homework, immature stuff like that.
He might not be the best people person or good at teaching. Though he's not awful. I've never had any problems with him. The class is very easy, you could definitely get an A by doing your work and studying. You work on classwork or on the group project with the people at your table and the prof and TA will walk around to help if you ask.
Worst prof I've had. Extremely degrading and insulting. Treats you like a middle schooler. Will laugh at you when you don't understand things. Doesn't explain anything. Unclear grading instructions. Crazy hard tests. He doesn't teach, he reads off slides he didn't even make. Avoid at all costs
Koebke is perfectly fine as a professor (even if he can be annoying). He does make sure people are paying attention, but if you actually try to learn, you'll do great. The slides are easy to understand and take notes off of which is really all you need for the easy homework. Honestly SUPER EASY if you let it be. He also does cool class examples.
I despise this man. He has no respect for his student and acts like we are stupid if we don't understand something. If you ask questions over email, he will give you the most simple and not helpful response. And you almost always need to ask questions, because doesn't explain anything well enough to understand it the first time.
Attendance mandatory. If you are 10 minuets late you don't receive credit. Phones are NOT allowed during class or being on a website that does not directly correspond to the course. Do either of these things he will point it out to the class. He gives extra credit on participation and any grade (he has never give a 100) will lower your final grade.
Literally don't take him he's the worst professor i've EVER had. He expects you to teach yourself like he doesn't explain a MATH class over zoom or anything. Just gives you the work & expects you to teach yourself, & when you do struggle and ask questions, he gets a fast & irritating attitude & tries to make you feel dumb Again, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Literally the worst professor ever, extremely condescending, extremely rude, so not understanding, and absurdly tough grader. He makes his own tests and even if you are good at the class and study you wont do well. In my 3 years at UK Ive never hated a single professor except this joke of a terrible human being and professor.
This is the worst professor I have ever seen. He is very rude, unhelpful, and condescending. He is the hardest grader for no apparent reason. His lecture videos are not even him, they are a robot off of Wiley, and the videos do not match up to any homework problems. He literally wants to see his students do bad and fail. Take ANYONE ELSE.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE THIS MANS CLASS. He doesn't teach anything, and when you ask him questions about the corse he is just flat out rude. The exams are next to impossible, way harder than the other STA 296 classes. Also there is a massive project due at the end of the semester and it is so complicated and just torture. Save yourself. Run.
Wish I could give him a rating of 0. Easily the worst professor I have had in the 4 years I have been at UK, literally take anyone else. He is rude, condescending, arrogant, and just not a great person. This would be manageable if he was a good teacher, but that he is not. He has no interest in helping students understand the material he "teaches"
I have struggled with lack of response by my group members and his response was, "It's a beautiful Friday they are probably out enjoying it." He does not care at all about students individually, he is just concerned with things getting turned in. I have completed our group project ALONE and he is perfectly ok with that. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.
He is the worst professor I have ever had at UK. He does not care about his students what so ever. I would run the other way and take any other professor
Nathan will be a great instructor at the beginning of class. If you can attempt to communicate very little with him. There's always a chance that he might take what you're saying as negative. I think he is very frustrated by lack of attendance, so show up for class.
You will never meet a more disrespectful professor on this campus. How he is still able to teach this course is unbelievable. DO NOT take STA with him you will hate stats after the first day. He also takes phones away like youre 12. Poor decision on the Universitys part to hire him.
Kind of condescending. He used other peoples' lectures when we switched to online. Class is super easy though, you can find everything online.
If you can't take/ understand dark humor, I would advise against taking him cause he is built upon his dark humor. I personally love dark humor, so he absolutely cracked me up. I also thought the class was super easy, but he will explain/ work out any question you have a problem with. He's been through a lot, but still an awesome man
Prepare to teach yourself the entire course. Incredibly condescending, uses subpar, prerecorded lectures he didn't come up with, and wastes your time in mandatory classes by repeating schedule information stated on the syllabus instead of working problems and answering questions. He'd be better off letting everyone use that time as a study hall.
If you can get out of taking Koebcke DO IT! He is awful to work with and it extremely rude when you need help in the class. He does not care about students at all! He is rude and just flat out mean in emails. If you can take anyone else save yourself the trouble of teaching yourself and being treated like you're a child.
none of the lecture videos we were given, were created by him. He used another source to teach us and then gave us homework that wasn't always like the lectures. His final project is ridiculously hard. Doesn't give much of an example to go off of. He has only given a couple 100s on the project.
If you can at all costs, avoid Koebcke. Hardest math class I have taken to date, does not actually teach and his in persons are mandatory and useless. Cook I have heard is a much better option.
Hes so rude and annoying didnt really care about the people he taught
HE IS THE WORST. Do not take him. I dared to after reading his reviews because he was the only professor available for the class when I signed up. He is not only rude, but an absolutely horrible professor. It seems as though he wants us to fail. The only thing that kept me from doing so is going to class and receiving attendance grades every day.
Mr. K has a unique sense of humor and is extremely sarcastic. This was not appreciated and comes across condescending and rude. Lectures are dry and not very helpful. Rely on your table mates and outside help to do well. There are also individual and group projects.
Not a very good teacher. More worried about people in the back of the class not having their mask pulled up over their nose than teaching the material. Seems like a kinda sensitive guy and super hard grader. Would strongly advise not taking Stats with him.
This professor is the worst, I have never heard anyone say otherwise. He doesnt understand reason at all
It is not a hard class and thankfully he is not the only one that grades the tests. He is extremely hard to please and difficult. Homework is easy and tests are easy too. He's super rude and his lectures don't really help. You have to go to class to pass.
There is an individual and group project, which Koebcke grades overly difficult. makes material seem harder than it is ; more focused on everyone looking at him and wearing a mask than actually understanding. If you study the homeworks, you'll get an A on the exam, though. Don't listen to him -- stats isn't difficult, he's just condescending.
He is the WORST. Most dry, boring lecturer ever. All he does is read off the slides and make snide comments to students. Oh, and attendance is mandatory. For the 2 projects, he grades so harshly and not based on the rubric. And if you try to bring it up to him, he gives no leeway or help or explanation. He doesn't want to see students succeed.
If you have to take stats I recommend avoiding Koebcke at all costs. He can be very passive aggressive and rude at times. I don't think he's very good at explaining the material at all. Most of my group mates and other people I've talked to in the class also had no idea what was going on. If I could give a zero rating I would.
If I could give him a 0, I would. He is THE WORST at explaining things and very cut and dry. He will also be rude if you ask anything and make you feel like its an inconvenience to respond to you. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS... DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Doesn’t really teach, expects you to teach yourself. Spends most of lecture time making us do group assignments that have to do with what we were supposed to learn on our own. If I could give him a 0 I definitely would. Also doesn’t give correct info about what’s on exams.
Quite possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. I say teacher because he is not a professor and that part is very clear. He uses a dry sense of sarcasm that belittles students and makes them feel stupid for asking questions. He blames everything that goes wrong on the students. I have taken 2 stats classes before this and did well, AVOID KOEBCKE
Aside from his expert knowledge in STA 296, I would avoid taking this professor entirely. He is rude, insensitive, and treats his students much like a highschool teacher, constantly calling out students for "not paying attention" in a 100 person lecture hall. I have never been so degraded by another adult, especially one barely older than myself.
This guy is awful. He acts like he is so much better than everybody and consistently calls people out in a 100 person lecture. Avoid him at all costs probably the worst teacher I have ever taken in my 19 years of living. Awful teacher
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He does not teach class at all, you are expected to teach yourself everything. Also, he lied about the first exam. Before the exam, he explained that it was all multiple choice, after opening the exam, it was all short answer.
SO BAD
First day of class seems great. Next thing you know you're on your 5th week in a row of him reading powerpoints word for word and talking about vaguely relative stuff. Extremely condescending and rude... got mad at me for grabbing a free mask and announced to the class that I was unprepared... you teach an entry stats class get off your high horse
Imagine you're talking to someone who has told you a blatant lie to make themselves look really good as a person. If you question the lie they add lies on top and make you feel like an idiot for not believing them even though you know every word out of their mouth has no real merit. Now add homework and sarcasm... That's what taking Prof K is like
awful couldn't pay me to take again
By far the worst statistics professor in the department. Provides very little help and/or clarification on grades received for both the individual and group project. Reads off of textbook powerpoint for an hour and then assigns homework that takes an hour and a half on average. I seriously recommend avoiding his class at all costs.
Professor K really isn't too bad. As long as you go to class and do the homework there's really no reason not to pass the class. He does have a weird darker sense of humor but just take everything he says with a grain of salt. I don't think he intends to be rude sometimes but it does come off that way.
His lectures are very dry and he grades really hard. My grade dropped 8% because of a group project paper that he meticulously grades. He does this with anything you do. I didn't like asking him questions because many times I would ask him one and he would respond in a condescending way, responding as if asking him a question was a waste of time
Spends the majority of his lectures lecturing students about masks and doing their homework in class. He is very passive-aggressive and rude to students for no reason. He will grades very ambiguously on the group project and you most likely will not score above an 80. I had a high A all semester and the group project brought me down to nearly a C.
His attitude toward his students is WOW. He purposely gives you bad grades for your projects and nitpicks at your assignments!
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't emphasize this enough AVOID THIS MAN AND HIS CLASS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is terrible, doesn't respect students, is VERY rude, and has a weird sense of entitlement. His class has a final project and with that comes checkpoints. He will give you bad grades on purpose.
This man is NOTTTT IT! He grades them final assignments like they're gonna be shown in a museum or sum. His daily work and chapter quizzes weren't too bad but he is no help. If you miss an assignment, OH WHALE. READ THE SYLLABUS!!!! He takes off points for the pettiest reasons. I wouldn't take this class again, no no no.
Honestly the worst teacher I have ever had, and that says a lot, and I am sure there are many people who agree. He is incredibly rude to students and requires unnecessary documentation, and personal details(illegal) for excused absences. Very condescending and honestly just sucks at teaching this course. Group paper will screw you over.
Genuinely the worst. I have had professors that I thought were bad from Midway, Morehead, and JCTC. This class makes me want to drop out of school and the content isn't even bad. Take STA296 but NOT with this guy. I have always been a good student and always have good relationships with teachers and professors, except for this one. Rude, petty.
Belittling and disrespectful. Treats his class as a middle school classroom yet desperately attempts to receive respect that I have never seen reciprocated. Avoid unless you enjoy people being passive-aggressive towards you.
Belittles you with passive aggressive comments. Quite literally the worst professor that I have had. If you can take another section, DO IT! His class is boring and he will hate on you the whole time!
terrible professor. Spends more time judging students than teaching. basically have to teach yourself throughout the entire course.
Imagine being told you are more than welcome to ask for help but then when you ask for help the TA has no idea what you're talking about and then when you ask the Koebcke for help he gives you a sarcastic open ended response that makes you even more confused even though you are asking for help and can't find any information online
He's a loser fr
Dudes just plain rude and responds so rudely in person and to emails. Doesn't have common human people skills.
He grades hard for no reason. He's somewhat fair though. The most annoying part is you do not learn anything in class, but attendence is mandatory especially before breaks for no reason. Nothing is covered in those classes before break. I did pretty well though. A lot of busy work.
rude
Decent professor but flies through lectures to the point where you cannot retain the information. If you go to class and do the homework you should get a good grade but if you can I'd take another professor.
This professor is not a good teacher. I've learned nothing in this class. Do not take this professor, take another, and if you can't do that, delay taking the class for a semester. It is not worth the stress of taking this class. Very strict on attendance. Will only excuse you if you have a doctors note.
Attendance is mandatory however if you miss a few times your grade will barely be affected. He purposefully puts exams and important lectures on days most professors cancel a class. We had an exam the Monday after family weekend and Halloween and had important lectures the Friday before fall break and Monday before Thanksgiving.
good luck lmao
I think he means well, but with that being said he is the most sarcastic, rude, and all around arrogant "lecturer" that I've had. Don't skip class because attendance is 10 points everyday, but the exams really aren't bad. The group project is terrible though. I had a high A in the class and the group project paper tanked my grade.
Koebecke is intimidating to approach to, and I never went to office hours. I took stats in high school so the class was easy for me, but the professor is horrible at teaching and is very hard for students that have no previous experience with stats. Koebecke only reads off of the powerpoint notes word for word for word. I do not recommend him.
You will succeed in this class if you study the unit's lecture (power points)/homework material. The homework is very difficult because there's often more complex problems than what you cover during lecture, however, he is AMAZING at responding to emails in a timely manner so reach out if you need help. KEEP your old exams to study for the final.
Tough personality to understand. Class was hard and he flew through the lectures.
He gets a bad rep but as a professor Nathan is actually pretty nice and funny. I think that online made him seem rude and he does come across as that but he is very sarcastic and monotone. The class wasn't too bad it was just annoying honestly and he did a bad job of answering outside of class. Do the homework and study because the tests matter.
straight up rude, took off points for stupid things such as missing a capital, does not teach and have not learned anything in class.
If I could give him a 0/5 I would. I have never hated a class as much as I hate this one. He only talks about himself and flies through the slides so fast that I don't even have time to write down anything on them. This class is genuinely so boring and miserable with his teaching. He is condescending and rude, I would take this class w anyone else.
Him and the TA walk around the entire class peering over your shoulder to make sure you're only doing statistics things. Feels like high school all over again. He flies through the lecture slides and the homework is only halfway relevant to what you learn. Get Ready to get a tutor if you want to take him, or find someone else
Truthfully sucks. Definitely do not reccomend, does not want his students to succeed. Offers no resources for exams, extremely hard grader for no reason at all as well.
He gave no further explanations that he mentioned in his lectures. He had a very dry sense of humor, which often came off as rude. Offered no test prep tips or extra assignments.
It is obvious that Professor Koebcke knows statistics, but he has no idea how to teach. A typical day in his class looks like him pulling up his 30-60 page slides and just flying through them. He doesn't answer questions well and he provides 0 support before exams. He speaks clearly with no accent, but he doesn't know how to teach any material.
Do not take his class. Take She fang shi, she can explain better than he can.
Professor Koebcke is the worst professor or teacher that I have ever had or heard of. He is extremely rude, his class revolves around him going through the slides that do not relate to the homework or the tests remotely. He feels extremely entitled and clearly does not want to see you succeed and went as far to say he doesn't want us to.
He never gave review sheets because they're "short cuts," and for the final, he didn't even tell us what was on the exam. He constantly has an attitude to every student, for no reason. He is very unfriendly and seems to hate his job. His lectures make no sense, and his teaching is confusing.
Horrible grader as everyone in his course is bound to have a lower grade as even if you get a 100 on your group project your grade goes down by at least 3 percent. Also takes forever to grade assignment making it difficult for you to know what you need to get on exams and homework assignments in order to do well in the class.
I took this class over winter break and I would not recommend it to anyone. There were lots of work of just textbook problems and teaching yourself the material. We had a paper at the end that had little to no instruction the only thing we were given we were videos and a rubric. He also was rude when leaving comments and replying to my email.
Super boring classes, but do not skip. A lot of what he says during lectures are more important than what are on his slides. Definitely would not recommend it, but I cannot stress this enough, go to class. He has super dry humor which comes off as rude.
DO NOT take classes from this professor. If any of the classes are required try to find another professor. Very rude and snarky. Asks for way too much participation in class instead of actually teaching the content that is already difficult.
DO NOT take Mr. Koebcke. My least favorite professor I have ever had. Extremely rude and seems to be on a power trip. He doesn't teach course content, just talks about random crap during class. If you are taking his class get chegg!! The only reason I passed, nothing could be learned from him. Go to class though, it kills your grade if you don't.
You have to show up to class to have a chance in this course. The group project has very unclear grading criteria and takes a month to grade. He is very rude when responding to emails. If you have any issues, his syllabus is not exactly what he wants you to follow. Good luck.
If I could go back to registration I would pick another teacher, Nathan is standoffish and not easy to talk to. He uses the excuse that he is sarcastic to be snarky and unhelpful. He is a harsh grader and an awful teacher, often nobody knows what's going on. If you ask him a question he won't answer it and make you feel stupid for asking.
he was ok he was a tough grader and the exams are hard and lots of homework
He's an ok professor, he just ass a stick up his butt fr fr. Very strict and unwilling to do simple things, but other than that pretty easy and ok.
He was unhelpful and did not respond in a kind matter. He was rude and did not give helpful feedback and made me think i was smart enough.
This professor is by far the worst I have ever had. He enjoys making students angry and genuinely laughs when people ask for accommodations. Every second people are around him their attitude and joy to learn drops to the floor. I wish nothing more than for this professor to be fired.
Do not take this course
While Professor Koebcke was definitely not the worst professor I have ever had, with a combination of vague email responses to questions and a seeming lack of care for his students, he definitely falls short of anything positive.
He has gross hands and struggles with breathing, he has a TA who hates her life, he also would go on rants about school work and fall break like get a grip. It is 2 weeks past fall break yet he still brought it up…
He consistently belittles students for the entire 50 minutes of lecture MWF.
bro be doing to much. complains all the time. do not take him. needs an attitude check.
He's very knowledgeable, but his attitude toward the class makes it unbearable. He never stops complaining about anything (phones, being late, leaving early, talking, not participating, etc.). He calls himself "sarcastic" but he's really just rude. Has a "figure it out yourself" attitude but complains about lack of participation.
Professor Koebcke's class is tough, but unstuck study and the free textbook can help you get through it. Attendance is a must, and the grading is strict, but engaging with the material pays off.
Nathan is a good lecturer. Despite the reviews, he did well teaching the content. All you have to be successful in this class is to attend all classes and put some effort in the homeworks. You will be guaranteed to pass if you do this. He holds a lot of office hours, so if you are struggling, go see him. He is willing to help.
Koebke spends the majority of class belittling students under the guise of sarcasm. He seems more interested in trying to assert dominance (that he clearly lacks in his daily life) than teaching the class. Lets the authority get to his head, and seems like he got bullied as a kid. Definitely choose the class you're weighing this against.
First 2 exams are really hard, the short answers have to be almost perfect to get full credit. There is a huge group project at the end worth a ton of your grade, which sucks for people who don't know anyone in their class. Professor is also insanely sarcastic which just comes off as mean, hes not nice to say the least.
He is not as bad as everyone says he is. You'll have homework pretty much every day but it is easy. I will say the final group project is worth a lot of your grade, it dropped me 8%. He is not rude, just has dry humor, not everyone likes that but he does not have bad intentions. Aside from the group project this course was so easy.
He was the meanest professor I've ever had. A girl in my group had a friend pass away and needed to take a day off of class to go to the visitation and was obviously emotionally distressed. When she emailed him he told her “he didn't know why she needed to miss class since the class was a couple hours before the visitation”. So insensitive and rude
He is actually a good guy despite these reviews, if you have him for in person class he is nice and makes jokes. Attendance is required, and there are a good amount of assignments but they're easy.
He is downright disrespectful to all of his students, does not answer questions with a clear response, he will complain about everything you do, and loves to micromanage you. Do not take any of his classes.
I really hated this class, the professor knows what he's doing but is terrible at teaching it and likes to talk more about himself than the actual material. He will go around and look at your computer to make sure you're on the right thing but majority of the time you can't figure out what you're supposed to be doing. Haven't learned a thing.
This is the rudest professor I have ever met. He does not care about his students. He claims to be sarcastic but is just rude. If you want to be belittled and learn nothing for 75 minutes twice a week he's the professor for you!! The course work is easy but it's about the same in every 210 class. Skip the headache and pick another professor.
This professor is terrible! He says that he is sarcastic but it's just an excuse to be rude and belittle the students. He will say things like "clearly someone isn't paying attention" and call out students. You will have to go to the Ombud to get him to make up a quiz you have a dr note for (like I had to). The classwork is easy though...just a lot
Has the worst attitude/demeanor of any professor I've had at UK. He is straight up mean, but plays it off like he's just "sarcastic". Would regularly make fun of people in my group if we had questions. Not a good learning environment at all, he WILL make you hate stats. Was so rude to his TA, I felt bad for her the whole semester. Just unbearable.
Had one of the worst attitudes I have ever seen from a lecturer. I call him a lecturer because he doesn't deserve to be called a professor. Made rude jokes and called them "sarcastic." Absolutely, truly, 100% does not care about his students and will find ways to mark off points on the group project. If you can take any other professor, do it.
Actually the worst experience ever. The worst attitude and is seriously so RUDE. He looks at our computers to watch what we are doing. You will have to teach yourself everything so get ready! If i could give it a -10/10 i would. It came to the point where I couldn't force myself to go to class because it was so mentally draining.
Do not take Koebcke. He is strict, he constantly belittles students and questions disabilities when he has no right to. Acts likes he's better than everyone, but can not teach for anything. You must attend lectures to pass, except he micromanages what you do during class. If you get a bad group at the start of the semester, you'll fail the class.
I'm graduating this year and had this professor 3 years ago, and I still come back to leave reviews to help future students. The class really isn't that difficult but Nathan is just a terrible human being who projects his miserableness onto his students by being flat out rude and making jokes about someone at my table who was in the hospital.
This professor has a bad attitude always. I had him for my summer online course and he would be upset when we'd submit assignments either the day before it's due or the day it's due and takes off points for it. While the course material is easy, he is unhelpful and just straight up a jerk.
I took STA 210 with Nathan because I had no choice, and I'm drowning in work as summer ends. The workload isn't sustainable for a short session, don't take stats with him in summer/winter. He's odd and constantly nags about last minute work. If you want it earlier, set earlier deadlines. I have a life outside class.
This professor is the worst professor ever, his work load is a LOT and the way he organizes his canvas is so weird like SO weird, and also about extensions forget about that. He took 5 points off because i wrote a paper on word document instead of handwriting it ….. so absurd to be honest.
If I had had to say one nice thing about him, he is very good at making a simple class insanely hard. Stats shouldn't be organic chemistry hard.
Boy were people right about this class. The slides you go over in "lecture" are him reading the slides not explaining them. The workbook assignments have nothing to do with the exam. He has no sympathy for anyone so don't test it. Exams are easy if you are good at teaching yourself material. He makes digs at you for your phone existing.
Gives out so many assignments, teaches none of it. Class isn't bad but is so time consuming. If you have a busy major or lots of other duties this class will not be for you. Koebcke is a good guy, but this course isn't great.
Very tough grader, gives 15+ assignments a week, and will have no sympathy for you if you miss one deadline.
He is by far the worst teacher I've had. I literally sprained my arm and couldn't write and he told me he couldn't give me an extension ON A HANDWRITTEN ASSIGNMENT. He is the epitome of evil in human form. Don't even try to take his class unless you want to feel like a failure especially from his sassy emails.
He really really really really really really really really sucks
I questioned my life every time I stepped into the STA296 classroom with this professor. This was the most unenjoyable hour and 15 minutes on Tuesday/thursday of all time. Do not take this professor unless you want no comprehension of anything he is talking about on the board.
He just talks abt that slides and doesn't explain anything, so everything will have to be retaught by yourself. Rude asf and calls students or groups out for no reason. GET WITH A GOOD TABLE GROUP. it will make you hate the class less and for the project. Attendence is a big part of the grade which is the only reason I go to this class.
I should have listened to the posts on here when I registered for STA210 with Prof Koebcke. He is genuinely one of the worst professors I've had at UK. He seems almost like he is on a power trip, assigns a bunch of assignments every week, and grades them harshly. My group had issues with our group project, and he was so backhanded in his feedback.
While I do appreciate a professor that has high standards, being disrespectful to students does not fall in that category. The way students are treated in this class is unacceptable. Don't even bother asking a question because he will turn it right around to make you feel belittled for asking for help. It is extremely hard to learn in this class.
He says that you can fail an exam and still pass but don't trust that. You're gonna need any help you can get with your grade because come the group project, individual project or even submission of your workbook assignments, you'll be marked off for the things you would think don't matter. No section number…3 points off. don't take this class!!!
Gave us one day to complete a group project that was a reseach paper which ended up being 10 pages long
This is the single worst professor I have ever taken in my life. Do not ask him questions, he will talk to you like you are 5. I would honestly rather not graduate then have to take his class again. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!!!!!
Professor Koebcke is pretty chill in class. You definitely need the textbook because you can't do the homework without it. There are no exams, and all quizzes were online. At the end of the semester, there's a group project, but it isn't difficult. He does grade attendance, so it's important to actually show up.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This material could be so easily understandable if it wasn't presented as common sense to the students. The professor makes you feel absolutely stupid when you ask a simple question and is little to no help in general. To learn the material you must fully do everything in your own time and teach it to yourself.
Professor is rude, won't answer questions, and seems to have no respect for the students. The last time I felt this way in am academic setting is when my art teacher yelled at me for spilling the paint in second grade. You completely have to teach yourself the material if you want to understand it, the TA's are nonexistent, and grading is awful.
Don't take this class! He doesn't actually teach the content but instead ramble on about how much he hates the previous class. He grades group projects harshly and expects them to be absolutely perfect which is difficult when he isn't the best communicator. When he does lecture he spends most of the time making 67 jokes.
Holy cow, this class was stupid. The professor just reads off the slides, which isn't bad, but when you ask questions, he doesn't elaborate and keeps pointing back to the slides. He is also very opinionated and will make sure you know his opinions on everything. Also, he doesn't provide any study material for exams, so that sucks.
