He and his friend as written a book, so you have to study the textbook and those two books.
yap,if you disregard his bald head(which i must say pops right out in your eyes)he is hot.
good teacher, has you read a lot, and write papers, but just take notes on everything he says because its on the tests
kind of a strange guy but keeps you interested in the class. count on homework every single week. lots of reading and in addition to that, you have to write papers and respond on the web board.
Expect to have a decent amount of homework to do. He'll make you have an online class (webboard) if it's a holiday. His classes can be pretty interesting, however, he's not the type of professor to waste time on talking about anything. Takes attendance VERY seriously. Must show up for 80% of classes
Very interesting class and discussions, helpful, but not as much as he should be.Discouraging and unclear comments that keep the students out of the track esp in writing:-(.Overall, he is good.
Hes fair when it comes to marking homework, but he acts as if we do not have any other class. Too many papers to do. But he is fair, at the end of the semester he allows for revisions of major paper so you end up with an A if you attended classes cuz attendance is very important to him.
Not very helpful when it comes to writing and his feedback. Very boring class dicussions that are pointless. A good amount of pointless reading also. overall i'd say find a better class to take
too much work.
HE IS OKAY DISCOURAGING AT FIRST BUT YOU NEED TO WORK VERY HARD. READ ALL ASSIGNED READINGS AND ALSO BUY ALL UNECCESSARY BOOKS

He's one of the best English teachers. His classes are very interesting and everyone participates in the discussions. He's fair and the workload is manageable. Many Eng. 111 students do come back for his Eng. 112 and even Eng. 242. His classes are fun. Don't be scared of the workload, it's worth it.
great
hes a good teacher. hes not easy with attendance. also u need to work hard to keep up. hes fair at grading n his feedback also helpful. at the end, u have a chance to revise almost every major papers, so u can pull up an A easily even though u failed all of them. make sure attend classes though.
He is not clear in giving directions or in his determination of grades.
awesome
Gives too much homework, does not clarify when Blackboard hw is assigned. Hard grader, makes confusing corrections, Very boring, BALD, expect too much for a entry level English class STAY AWAY.
I had Nathan for the Creative Writing classes that I enrolled in as electives. While some of you may be alienated by the levels of depth in which literature is analyzed and evaluated, he is a fair grader, and explains to students how to hone their craft in fiction and poetry wonderfully.
His grading is somewhat hard to some but that is only to help you learn. He wants you to leave his class feeling like you can understand exactly what he wants in paper for any teacher. I loved him.
hes a good teacher. take him if you wanna learn something.
There is something disturbing about taking a creative writing teachers whose books are from a vanity press. His comments have the depth of a thimble and his style is geared toward the ignorant and inane. Don't take his class if you are serious and fired up about writing he is the wettest rag of a professor I have ever met. What a waste.
He believes in lots of open discussions. Lots of reading but average amount of writing assignments. Class participation in discussions is a must to pass. Very open minded and overall good teacher.
By his arrogance you would think that this man was the only person to have ever published a book! He grades fairly, unless he doesn't like you(I had never failed a paper until his class), he will belittle your opinions, and he will act like a pompous jerk. If that sounds like your idea of a good time then take this class.
hard...
Overall, greatt teacher. is veryyyy efficient & knows his stuff. When your talking, he puts all focus on you.Allot of reading, 1 mini presentation, and allot of papers..papers were okay,..some were hard..but A VERY HELPFUL TEACHER! take him .. veryy sweet and caringg!!! if you care, he cares. he willll put effort in if you do too :))
He is definitely a good teacher.I enjoyed his class. Make sure that you buy all of the required books and check the webpage frequently.Ignore the comments saying he is pompous and a jerk. He had a girl leave our class because she would never shut up. She was very annoying and was distracting the entire class. It was funny when he told her to leave.
Do not pick Professor Leslie...he lost three papers of mine on separate occasions...and half way through the course, he decides to tell me that he only accepts "hard copy" assignments, and all of my previously e-mailed assignments were late. It never said that on the syllabus. Dooshbag!!!
Heres a clean comment. You are the worst teacher. Why any student would ever enjoy your class is beyond me....
dispise this class and the way he teaches
For English 112 we had to do 5 response papers 5 paragraphs in length. This amounts to around an hour and a half of writing every other week. The three larger assignments vary from 4-7 pages in length. Not a difficult grader, as long as you know how to write a paper. The workload is only bad compared to other professors who don't give a damn.
Good Teacher Just too many papers jeeeez
Great teacher!!Definitely knows his stuff-great teacher!! is veryy caring as long as u care. puts alot of time & energy into his classes 2 make sure you learn. take him if you want to get an easy A. had 5 papers, wasnt too bad. he does not belittle any1's thots, he just puts in his opinion..TAKE PROF LESLIE!!!!!! :))
BEST TEACHER!!! puts in a lot of effort, & cares very much 4 his students-is veryy dedicated! Grades fair, few papers, & works hard to make sure you pass! TAKE PROF. LESLIE!!!!!!!
BEST*TEACHER*EVER!!! take prof. leslie if you want to earn an easy A-very fun class!! Knows his stuff very well & is very dedicated to his work! if you want an easy class w/ a fun time, take PROF LESLIE!!!!
PROF LESLIE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! very consistent & organized-always ready 2 teach. very easy class w/ easy assignments, just do your work!..best english teacher EVER!!!!
TAKE PROF. LESLIE!! if you want an easy A, take him!! he works hard to make sure you pass. is always there 4 his students, and has a great personality. grades fair, and is always prepared. TAKE PROF LESLIE IF U WANT AN EASY A!!
ok professor but he is not easy gives way too many papers. If you are good at writing papers this teacher is for you but if English is not your best subject you should NOT take this class!
do not take this class unless you want to get a bad grade. Not a good professor.
Prof. Leslie is a very lenient grader if you understand the format of an essay, and can construct a somewhat defensible argument. There is a lot of reading for this class, but the discussions about the novels can be very fun and rewarding. There were 5 short essays, 1 research paper, a presentation, and a final. You will also read ~13 novels.
This guy is stupid. He is not a good teacher. I have had better teachers in high school compared to this guy
Mr. Leslie is such a great teacher. i had such a bad day and forgot to do all of our homework (which was a lot) and he said dont worry next class jsut bring it in! im taking him next semester he's so relaxed and happy.
professor leslie is great -- i really enjoyed the essays he had us write & i feel he really helps you develop your own writing style. as long as you do the work & go to class its not hard to pass, & he's always available to help you with your work.
Prof. Leslie is wonderful. He was really open to different types of writing and the books he choose we had a great discussion about them all. The class was essentially a book club and a lot of fun. Even included food :)
A great teacher for creative writing. It would be pretty difficult to fail his class so long as you do your assignments, which aren't very numerous or difficult.
Prof. Leslie is a great teacher. He's very helpful and it's obvious he is passionate about the subject. There were a variety of interesting assignments and some fun contests. I would definitely recommend this class and Prof. Leslie.
Super nice guy, and really helpful. Just be sure to do all the assignments and go to class and you'll get a good grade, no doubt.
He is a bit strict! you have to be in class do a lot of work and writtings but he's helpfull that he will make sure you pass!! just gotta put some effort in it
He is a very good teacher. He is strict about cell phones, but that really doesn't matter. He is clear, concise, very helpful if you ask for any, and all of his writing assignments are superbly easy. Not at all a difficult class, just do the readings and follow the directions for the essays. Guaranteed A.
Professor Leslie is kind of a bore.... Class wasn't very fun and he called on people a lot. Other than that, he's a VERY easy grader. Class is important to go to so go!! He does give constructive feedback but his hand writing is so bad you can't really read it. Still an okay professor
This class can be an easy A! Homework is easy. Grades easily. If you don't do well on a paper, then he will let you resubmit it. Attendance is important. He will call on you EVERY CLASS for your point of view or opinion on interpretation of whatever the class is reading. Just do the homework, papers, & show up and you'll be guaranteed an A!
Very fun and interesting class! Yes, there is a lot of homework, papers, and reading but if you do your work and show up to class, then you will get a gauranteed A! Easy grading, a lot of public speaking, and attendance is mandatory.
There is a lot of work in this class, yet he makes you a better writer.
Professor Leslie is a nice guy. There are 5 essays along with a few quizes. Topics of essays are interesting and easy to some extent.Too much reading is required which sometimes gets annoying.Grading is okayish. Plus he picks on students ALOT. Overall class is okayish.
professor leslies class can be interesting and boring depending on the subject. a lot of reading to do so make sure you have time for this course. 3 minor essays one of which is done in class and 1 major essay. if you take this class DO NOT put this off. even if you do well on everything else ignoring this essay could drop you 1 to 2 letter grades
IF YOU ARE LAZY DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I personally loved his class, I struggled so much with paper and now I have so much more confidence. Yes he gives a lot of work but it is with a purpose. If you truly want a teacher who is passionate and cares, take professor Leslie.
Despite the work load, I really enjoyed Prof. Leslie's class. His classes are structured around open discussion which really help keep you involved. It does mean however you will have to do the reading. He will call on you and participation is part of your grade. Papers aren't too difficult, but can be time consuming. Attendance is mandatory!
Put in the work effort, do your assignments, participate in class and you are sure to pass this class! Assignments aren't too difficult, but there are a LOT of them. 2 weekly reports a week on stories read in class, 2 major essays, and 3 response papers. Don't take this class if you are a slacker or going to skip. YOU WON'T PASS!
A bit of a tough course, but he is a great professor! I learned a lot about writing and how to analysis literature as well! Lots of assignments, but it all has a purpose! Take him and you won't regret it!
Amazing and inspiring! His class is super easy as long as you do the work. He's a really easy grader! He really makes you look at writing in a whole new way! He's very strict about attendance though.
Hard class, but he's a good professor with a true passion for English.
Great Professor! Lots of reading and papers, but none of them are that hard and he's a very easy grader. You have to participate in class as it's part of the grade. Lots of open discussion which helps keep you involved in the material. Strict on attendance, but he's nice and wants all his students to succeed! Even with all the work, it's an easy A!
Really interesting class and professor. He teaches you how to analyze literature in-depth. I actually enjoyed coming to class and discussing the stories we were assigned. You have a paper due every class, but most of them are opinionated and he's a really easy grader. He's one of the best English professor at NOVA!
His class was easy and fun. If you show enthusiasm and try hard he'll give you a good grade regardless of your writing skill. His prompts and homework were not hard, and he'll let you re-do them if you get a C or below. ATTENDANCE IS VITAL! For each class you miss he'll deduct 2 points from your total percentage, no matter the excuse!
Want to pass his class with an A? Go to class, do the readingsweekly reports, participate in class, and write somewhat meaningful essays. If you do, you WILL get an A. He gives you lots of assignments, but doesn't ask much from you other than to write something somewhat meaningful. Really just wants you take interest in the subject.
You have papers every class, but the majority of them are just your interpretations of stories. He's a very easy grader and I got an A on every paper and I'm a very average writer. Only things you really need to put effort into is a presentation and the final which takes a couple hours to do. As long as you are a decent writer, it's not too bad.
Lots of work, but great teacher. No tests or quizzes, but a lot of papers. Attendance is mandatory.
Professor Lesie was nice, but very boring. The whole 2 hour class period we would analyze stories we had read before class. Assigned WAY too much homework for how long we had to complete it ex) Rough draft of a 5 pg paper, 6 short stories, weekly report of those stories, plus poems to read. All to complete in a few days. Overall, okay class.
Great Professor, Very Beneficial Class, Recommend His Class
I enjoyed professor Leslie's class a lot. He assigned a lot of reading, but it was mostly all short stories. The essays were not over bearing but challenged me to think in ways I had not before. I have learned a lot about myself as a writer and a student in this class.
Professor Leslie quickly became one of my favorite professors (ever). I took him for ENG111 which is writing-intensive so there was a lot of homework - reading and writing. He's a fair grader and if he sees that you're participating and putting effort into the class, you'll do well. Don't hesitate to take him - he's great!
He's an English geek but in a good way. Clear concise instructions for assignments, gives awesome feedback. Grades are up to you, put in the effort and show improvement. Took 8-week session although there was a lot of reading, I only read what I needed to but beware the questions on the exam test your knowledge on all reading assignments. Open book
Professor Leslie was one of my favorite professors, he makes his class fun even if they're three hours long. If you write your essays and do the weekly reports then you will get an A. You get to revise two essays at the end of the semester as well. No tests or quizzes. TAKE HIM.
Professor Leslie was a fantastic teacher. His lectures were interesting, and he gives plenty of time in between Essays. The work load was never too much, and the few pop quizzes were mostly graded on completion. If you want a teacher that won't actually teach stay away, but if you're looking to improve your writing than Prof. Leslie is great.
I took his Creative Writing class, and it was the best class that I took this fall. While the work seems like a lot at first, it's really not. One story a week is a lot easier than it sounds. Though when writing the 10 page short story be ready to have your peers to be super tough on you. I got all A's on my short stories with him. :)
Nathan is a literature enthusiast, and it shows in each and every one of his lectures. If you do not like to read much AVOID. However, if you can manage between 10-30 pages of reading before every class, you'll do just fine. Essays are easy and straightforward, and gives good feedback on your writing ability. Great class discussion facilitator.
Great teacher. Very personal and specific when it comes to grading and helping you with papers. Funny guy and very positive.
This guy is one of my all-time favorite professors! He really knows how to keep a class involved and make discussing English fun and meaningful. He does assign a lot of papers, but they are all pretty easy aside from the 2nd major essay. No tests/quizzes and the final is a small sort-of project he gives you a week to do. Just don't skip!
This class is NOT an easy A. However, even if you're not a great writer, you can still ace this course if you show enough effort.
Consistently helpful and friendly. expect more readings for each class. Strongly recommend people to take his classes.
You MUST keep up week to week if your taking him online, other than essays class had discussion boards, group film analysis, and the midterm is planned for before you go take it
There's a lot of reading in this class, but as long as you do it and participate in class it's not that bad. The weekly reports are incredibly easy and he's a pretty easy grader when it comes to the essays. Just don't skip class because he takes attendance and will fail you if you miss more than 6.
His assignments are all on controversial topics. If that makes you uncomfortable, I would not recommend. Beware of midweek deadlines. If your assignments are even 1 minute late, no credit, so follow deadlines. I did really well on all my assignments, but didn't turn things in on time, got a C. Midterm and Final are easy, gives some feedback.
Professor Leslie has been a true pleasure to work with. He is very responsive to emails, even in online courses. He keeps the course interesting and encourages a lot of interaction between the students. Very understanding about other obligations, and is willing to help in any way he can.
Awesome professor. Really good with giving feedback and helping with essays. Be ready for homework though!
Professor Leslie is a very tough professor. Expect direct feedback. He's not a warm and fuzzy. He is strict. One late assignment and he'll fail you. I wouldn't describe him as an inspirational teacher, but he is passionate. I wouldn't take a class from him ever again though. At times, I think he's overly critical. BEWARE!
Professor Leslie is a great teacher and leads interesting discussions on the material. He assigns a fair amount of reading material and essays, but the weekly assignments are fairly easy. Make sure you turn stuff in on time, though, because he marks down by two grades for late work.
Leslie is a great professor, who leads awesome class discussions. He assigns a fair amount of reading and papers, but the weekly essays are pretty easy. Do not turn work in late, though, because he marks down by two grades for late work.
I would highly recommend Professor Leslie to those who want to take his online class. He gives good grades as long as you follow the direction.
Prof. Leslie is an amazing professor! I took him for creative writing, and really enjoyed that class, because he keeps the class engaged at all times. This online class was also fairly easy. You just have to keep up with the readings and assignments, and you'll pass with an A. I'd take him again if I could!
Professor Leslie is a great teacher. I took him for creative writing-really easy & fun class. Easy on grading and gives good feedback. It was a lot of writing but it was a writing class.
Prof. Leslie is a good teacher. He knows his literature. However, after taking his online course, I have come to find that he doesn't know just how much work he gives on a weekly basis. The stories are somewhat mundane and don't engage your sense of accomplishment for reading them. The exams are ace if you study just a little bit. Would recommend.
4 projects mainly essays that had to be at least 4 pages long. Lots of reading fallowed by reading quiz. 2 exams not hard but 2nd one required you to have read most of the readings he assigned. Discussion board assignments based on readings. Overall okay class but do not wait last minute to get started on the assignments.
Good teacher; I got sick at the end of the semester and couldn't come to classes and had trouble completing assignments but he tried to work with me so that I still passed.
You read for every single class and write papers for everything you read. If you miss class, make sure you have a friend to text to catch up on notes. His class is just going over the readings. His syllabus is clear and well scheduled but if you miss one assignment things start to pile up on you.
Really great professor, my only complaint is that it's kind of hard to know exactly what he's looking for in his essays but on the flip side he's not super strict either. He uses blackboard really well so you always know what's up. Also, lots of reading short stories and poems. You really use the textbooks in this class.
Lots of reading for homework. Make sure you make some kind of analysis on your weekly reports for a good grade. Use good academic sources on your essays. Do the readings and participate in class and you will do fine!
This class was very boring, and NOTE!!! this guy is a very hard grader and will grade homework which is suppose to be a completion grade, he will also deduct for spelling. i do not recommend.
Professor Leslies ENG 112 online course was a good experience for me. I would highly recommend him for online classes. He is very understanding and caring, and his work load is a balanced amount. Take his class!
Great professor so far, assigns weekly assignments that require reading. They are a good way to keep your grade consistent. Essays are definitely a huge part too. BEWARE, he takes attendance seriously. If you miss a class or are super late hell deduct a letter grade. I got an A on a paper then be dropped it to a B!
Nice guy. Brought food a couple times. TOO MUCH reading every week with a weekly report on all the readings. 3 Mini Essays, 2 group presentations, midterm, final, and a final essay. Sometimes a weekly report, mini essay, and presentation are due on the same day. It's an INSANE amount of homework as a full time student and employee. Easy grader tho.
I took him for Eng 125 and later for Eng 251 . Apart from the heavy amounts of works assigned for each week, he's a good English professor. As long as you read the readings for each week, i don't see how you can miss an A or B in his class. If you arrive late or leave before the class ends you will be marked absent and therefore get penalized.
If you are interested in actually getting an education, definitely take Prof Leslie! His lectures are very interesting and he has a way of getting the whole class involved. Be prepared to read and write a decent amount, but this is a 200 level English class, so no surprises there. One of my favorite Professors, I highly recommend!
This is a college course, it will not be an "easy A." If you apply yourself, you can successfully pass this class. I will say there is a ton of reading every week, but a lot of the stories are great. There are no tests in the class but there is a massive paper at the end of the semester (10 pages). His classes are pretty interactive and not boring.
He's a respected guy however, he would not give you an A easily. Even though the writing center helped me a lot I still got B'sand C's on my essay.
Prof Leslie is a great professor. He grades hard but he shows you and explains what he wants out of your essay. Just put in some light work and focus on your essays, and you will pass.
Professor Leslie was not the quickest in posting grades, but he always gave wonderful feedback. He was also very quick to respond to emails. I learned a lot from the course. I would sign up for a class with him again if given the option.
He is a great teacher and is very present in all his lessons. He does what he can to connect with his students and has great discussions. The homework is minor although there is quite a bit of reading he always lets you catch up on work during class. He is really understanding and makes the class enjoyable.
Assigns too much work. He doesnt understand that we have things outside of this class. Weekly discussion questions. Lots of reading. Midterm essay, presentation, and 8-10 final essay. On top of all those he adds more work. If you want to be stressed and want more work please go ahead and take this class. Other then that take someone else!!!!
You will read A LOT. Get ready to write in-depth papers and discussion boards. If you do not read the readings before class he may give pop quizzes ( he gave 3 in one class because no one answered for ONE poem) Buckle up for this class.
Prof. Leslie is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. Be very very ready to read because his test and quizzes are based on that. His quizzes and exams are very clear and he gives you the opportunity to showcase your creativity. Stick to his comments and you will do great in the class.
Professor Leslie gave strong feedback and it only took a bit of effort to get a good grade. If you don't put in the effort, he'll take about 10 points off. Lots of options for creative writing in the course as well. Include detail in discussion posts, even the comments to others, and you'll be fine.
I took this as a 7 week on-line course while I was working full-time. It was more reading than I expected for a short story class, although I enjoyed the stories. I liked that for each project that was due, several options were presented. You could pick what type of project and the topic. I would take a class from this professor again.
Prof Leslie was a great teacher. The essay topics he chose were interesting. He is a picky grader, but I improved greatly. We had 4 essay topics through the course, and he allowed us to make the needed corrections to all essays for our final. We did some reading and discussion posts but they weren't difficult. Will be taking him again for 112!
This course lacks development.
During the course I found that he was very accessible and overall very helpful and responsive. When sudden travel plans came up on me I was able to work with him to understand what I would be missing while I was gone and not fall behind on the course work. Overall a great teacher and I can confidently recommend him to any future students.
Prof. Leslie is a great professor who genuinely wants you to succeed. Homework is a little heavy (hybrid at least) but it's nothing that isn't manageable. It is difficult to know your grade throughout the semester, however he lets you resubmit all essays at the end which makes it very easy to get an A. Definitely take his class.
Very nice professor, he will bend over backwards to help you and grades you fairly even if he may disagree with what you write which I greatly appreciated cus its extremely rare now a days. His papers are fun and interesting, its not a boring waste of time. He is a very tough grader if you're going for As, but he will help you get there if you need
Professor Leslie is fantastic. You can tell he's very passionate about his work, he encourages good conversation amongst his class. The pieces he chooses for homework are very interesting and not your average texts. His course load isn't too heavy at all and he grades fairly. I would recommend him to anyone interested in an english course at Nova!
You will be handwriting 3 1500 word rough drafts in class though, so beware. Other than that, the workload was moderate but manageable, and he is a funny guy. Show up to each class, or he will take off points. Not exactly an easy A, but a solid teacher and class nonetheless.
Prof. Leslie was amazing, I thought this class was going to be boring but it was actually entertaining. Be prepared to read, as long as you make an effort to read and participate in class, is an easy A
Best professor I've taken. I had him for American Literature and the class was genuinely fun. No in-class assignments, just weekly homework (usually one due before class). Participation matters, but group discussions are enjoyable and classmates are nice. There is a lot of reading, but he is very kind, approachable, and easy to talk to.
