Interesting and funny teacher. His tests are often repetitive. You must take notes in the class and you must read the textbook. Note taking can be hard because he moves quickly and it is sometimes difficult to get deep notes. A lot of the test material comes from the deep part of the notes.
He looks like Adam Sandler on the Waterboy. And is nervous when he teaches and mummbles kay, kay at least three times in every sentence. But overall is a good guy. His final was extremely easy took me longer to write my name then take it.
Nathan was a good teacher. Well informed and knowledgeable. He expects you to remember the material covered in class by giving fill the blank tests. The paper was easy to do, only 5-7 pgs. Go to class every day and you will get what you need for the tests.
I thought Mr. Melton was a great instructor. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and would recommend him to other students. He made the subject interesting and fun!
This was a terrific course. He had awesome glasses. Nathan Melton was an excellent teacher. I enjoyed the class a lot, and kind of a little bit.
Mr. Melton was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He was not clear in what he expected and he was nervous and would repeat himself. I would never recommed his class.
Great instructor! Very fair.
He is a nice guy and his class is easy. All you have to do is show up to class and read the book and you'll ace the tests. he never gives any other homework then reading. It's kind of hard to take notes in his class cuz he goes quick but if you really want some he puts the chapter notes on the internet and they have everything you need for the tests. Choose this class for sure, it's an easy 2 credits and you actually learn stuff.
He's a pretty good teacher except that his tests are pretty hard if you dont take in depth notes on what he says, which can be hard at times to get everything down. Other than that the class is simple. No homework. Just reading
Nathan was ok, he was kind of hard. Take alot of notes (pretty much every word he says), and you MIGHT be alright. I'm pretty sure he doesn't really care about his students and helping them succeed.
He is a funny teacher and loves to get into light-hearted arguments with his students. If you take a lot of notes, you will minimize your study time exponentially. Write down everything he writes on the board and go to class, you'll get an A. He gives students a shot at extra credit for every exam and it helps. Hates people walking in late.Easy Cla
he likes to ramble off on subjects. has alot of knowledge but is unclear in his teaching. and notes are impossible to take. he never notified us of our grades. i was in the blue the whole time. the tests are hard because he dosent cover half the stuff on the tests. he just goes off on his opinion
good guy. down to earth. tells you what you want to know and keeps his cool with the annoying guy in class.
He knows his history, an excellent teacher. If you want an "A" you actually have to work for it!!!! I know thats a new concept for many of my lazy fellow students. I wish all of my Professors were like Nathan.
A good teacher, lectures are great! If you want to learn a lot about American heritage he is a good techer to take it form. Tests are straight forward and pretty easy if you study.
Took this class on the internet. Half his questions on the tests are just opinion, some of the others i worded my answer the EXACT same out of the textbook or an encyclopedia and got them wrong. That happened a LOT. If you want to learn about another persons opinion this is the class for you. If you want to learn facts about history...not for you.
The class on the Internet was perfect. The other person who rated this professor obviously does not know the difference between fact and opinion. All of the test questions were factual. Also, we were not allowed to use notes or our book for exams, so it is obvious that student cheated.
Good teacher and easy to understand. Tells you what will be on tests on review day and it is exactly as he says. Go to class take down anything he writes on the board and do multiple choice at end of every chapter in book.
awesome teacher. i would recommend him for sure. interesting class
I'm taking the online class and Mr. Melton is extremely helpful. I had 4 classes and wasn't able to complete this one and he gave me an extra 8 months and he still keeps in touch with me. I highly recommend him to ANYONE! Instead of tests we write papers and our opinions which has helped me learn a lot more than if I were taking a test.
This was a really fun class (and super easy). I wasn't very in to politics before this class, but Prof. Melton made it really fun. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Test In Class, A few Short Papers, Easy on Grading. Good Teacher. Funny and Sarcastic
I took this class online. It was very very easy. Just complete all the work and you will get a good grade. He also provides extra credit opportunities, so if you care at all you will get an A or a B.
Awesome! He knows his stuff and really likes politics. He teaches well. Go and listen to the lectures! He won't just test off of the stuff in the book, but if you go it isn't impossible to do well. There isn't a lot of homework, just reading mainly. He is very fair and I was actually really interested in his lectures. Good teacher.
He is awesome professor. His tests are pretty easy, and final - he gave us 100 questions, and 50 of them (exac the same) were on final which made it very easy. During the class you write 3 or 4 papers, and he is not hard grader. Easy A
I loved this class so much!! I wasn't very interested in politics at all before this class and now I am very interested! He taught in a way you can understand and I have learned so much about government! I would recommend him to anyone! Just a few papers and tests- very fun class!
Nice guy. Good teacher. Pols is not really my thing and so the class was kind of difficult for me, but other than that it was a pretty decent class.
All his test are multiple choice.
I enjoyed his class!
you do need to attend class to get the notes that's where a lot of his test comes from. the book isn't really needed. there are 3 tests a book review and one paper. he gives you reviews and answers some questions in class. the final was 50 questions he gave us a review with 80 and answered a lot in class. the questions were right from the review.
I took POLS 1100 for Prof Melton online. It was super easy and mellow. Just a few papers and exams, which you can use the book so it's not too bad. A little time consuming, but compared to taking the class on campus it was a great way to go. Highly recommended!
Took online American Gov class and got an easy A. I would recommend taking it online over in person and I HATE online classes. I had to do online because the location changed and I was late every day. You can still learn a lot and it is easy to get a good grade if try. Exams are open book and all the papers, etc are actually really fun. Great class
In a word...Terrible. The tests often reflected information that was minute compared to the amount of reading required. Also, wording of questions on tests was redundant, unclear, incomprehensible, or led you to giving the wrong answer. A few questions I answered correctly on tests were graded as wrong.NOT a good instructor!
I took this class online and it was okay. It felt more like an obligation than a class I wanted to take, which it was. Dissapointing...Never heard from him, he was an invisible hand that didn't seem to care much about his online students.
This class isn't too bad, and he seems like a pretty good guy but he never writes notes class is just a big discussion. Super easy and he gives you study guides. There are a few assignments and tests are ok. Don't take if you are an avid politician, it will bore you
Decent professor, but he gets a bit lawyerly when it comes to grading - I was docked two full letter grades on an exam for taking a moderate position on a question asking for my personal beliefs on an issue. Also, don't even bother to buy the text. Just buy a copy of the paperback assigned reading. You will never use the book.
I feel like I enjoy to some degree when before I was completely apathetic. Each class is a lecture. He is clear on what assignments are due. He has a review for every test the he goes over in class before each test. There are 2 writing assignments out of class. Basically, go to class, study the review, and do the 2 assignments and it's an easy A
i fell asleep in class al the time. he was an okay teacher. WAY easy. You have two papers. and he doesn't even read them. it,s just if you did them or noe. they are both about one-two pages. there are 3-4 test 50 questions. and if you come on the review day and fill out the paper and read the questions in the back of the chapters you'll be good.
Melton was great. Intro to Poli-Sci is easy just take notes & pay attention. The paper was a tad unnecessary, better for a constitution or civics class. Poster who was docked for his opinion was in my class and didn't answer the question correctly. He was testing understanding of the lecture, not your opinion or ability to "think outside the box"
Easiest class I ever had.
Boring. Lived up to the American Heritage infamous reputation. Took no interest in his students and tried to be funny, but nobody ever laughed. It was a struggle to show up everyday and I ended up retaking with Judge Terry who was awesome and I learned so much more. Don't take Melton.
Good teacher. Pay attention during lectures. Helps with a review before his exams. Would recommend.
I really liked this teacher! He was very easy. If you show up to class and pay attention making moderate notes you'll do great! Tests were pretty easy. Assignments were easy. He was good at showing both sides of the argument. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Melton is a very good 1010 teacher. It was the easiest class ever but you do learn about the US Gov. He is a bit sarcastic sometimes and says arogant things but he teaches well and grades fairly. Reviews are straightforward and tests are multiple choice. Just pay attention and study and the class is a piece of cake.
Cake walk! Reviews are pretty much the test, taken online & open book. Papers are strictly your opinion for full credit...Easy A!!!
Took it online. VERY EASY. I even slowly finished all my assignments and test half way through the test.
Definitely teaches this class with his own bias of political issues and philosophy, but if you can tolerate that this class isn't really that hard. His exam reviews are helpful and the two papers required were easy and interesting.
This guy is awesome. Very melo teacher. You will learn, but you won't be sweating bullets on test or anything. Cool as a cucumber.
Did his class for a summer block. He hates students being late. He's very thorough. Not a lot of extra credit. Tests were multiple choice. Not too hard, but you need to know your stuff. Two book reviews - one pretty boring, one for extra credit.I found the class interesting, him competent and I'd recommend this professor.
Very easy class online. Make sure to study his midterm reviews, because they have EVERY answer on them. If you put effort into just doing the few papers and studying for tests, you will get an easy A.
Melton is an awesome professor- he sticks to his word and he's strict on grades, which I find really respectful. He's great at giving time to ask questions as well as making the concepts perfectly clear and understandable. I definitely recommend him!
Easy A. 3 tests, and 2 writing assignments. Pretty sure he didn't read the papers. Exam reviews are pretty much 1 to 1 the questions on the test, so make sure to stay on top of them. Interesting class discussion, would have attended every day if my work schedule hadn't changed.
Melton is a great professor- he's very fair. He sticks to the syllabus and makes class interesting. The class is very easy, requiring only three tests and two writing assignments. As long as you study well (he gives study guides also), you'll pass with a great grade. Love this professor!
Online class. Can complete class in 3 weeks easily. Don't wait till end! Stay ahead of optional schedule posted. 3 test total. Fill out review sheet while reading and write page # found to refer back. Test online, can use notes/book. 3 papers (pass/fail), 1 letter to congress/with reply. 16 discussion board entries with comment on classmates.
I mostly enjoyed Prof. Melton. He's intelligent and the class isn't very difficult. He does, however, make humiliating remarks at student expense. He gives two writing assignments and two tests. The study guides are very accurate. Overall, I'd recommend the class.
I took this class online and it's EXTREMELY EASY
Easy class, you don't really learn anything.
Professor Melton is boring and dry. It was hard to keep focus because it was so monotone. I didn't learn anything. The tests are a little hard.
I took this class online. Use study guides when reading and fill them out. This was not a hard class and I learned a lot because this was an election year and it sparked my interest. If you hit it hard you can do this class in 4-5 weeks without a problem. Highly recommended.
EASIEST TEACHER EVER. His class is online, so it's super super simple! Just do the reading and do the assignments! His papers are all opinion so just as long as you do them he will give you an A. Do the reading, do the review and you'll get an A. I forgot about the class so that's why I got a C. Oh and everything can be turned in the last day!
The Easiest way to take Government! You only have 3 papers, 2 exams and book report. His deadline is the end of the semester I seriously waited until the last week to start and got in done in 3 days with an A. Papers are opinion papers and all answers in the book. For exams he has study guides just follow and you will get an A on both exams.
Great class! Easy class, but lot's of reading! That's ok though, just keep the exam study guides with you as you read and you'll ace the class. The papers all opinion based so full credit for just doing them. Book review is the hardest part of the whole class, but even that is really just a 5 page opinion paper on the book. Fully enjoyed this!
Awesome class!!! Had a growing interest in history & politics before but this class really made me enthralled. Lots of reading but very easy assignments. Gave me a great appreciation for our countries founding.
Easiest class ever. 3 papers (2 page DOUBLE spaced), solely your OPINION. One 5 page book review (your opinion). 3 Exams (50 questions). Then a letter to congress on any issue you want. Its important to take notes while reading & have the study guide with you. Tests are taken from home so you do not have to go to school at all. Made my life easier.
Easy class, and easy assignments! All papers are based on your opinion, plus one book review; I received full points on all of them. I rented a digital copy of the book and read through each chapter with the test reviews and found every single answer. Tests were easy if you knew the review questions.
Great class and instructor. The assignments are easy. The tests are not so bad if you study a little. I took this class online and completed it within 7 weeks. Easy A and I learned a ton.
Professor Melton's online American Heritage class is easy. You have a few assignments and then you have to read the textbook to pass the exams. He gives you review sheets that I suggest you print out before you open to start reading and fill it out while you are reading. Some of the answers are in the online lessons too. Overall great class.
This was a super easy online class. He is very clear about what your assignments are (not super confusing like some online classes), and you get full credit just for doing them. The only complaint I have is that a few of the test questions were not even related to what he would put on the study guide, but it was still a way easy class.
The tests were the hardest part. Some questions weren't even mentioned in the study guide. There are no due dates though in the class which made it very nice. You have to write 5 essays. 4 of the essays are 2 page double spaced and the other is 5 pages. Then you have three tests. The tests were by far the hardest part.
This was an easy A. I never opened either book. I wouldn't say I learned a ton, but I passed the class with an A, and I finished the entire class within the first month of the semester.
This class was online and the there was a lot of material to read. You have to read the textbook and the book 1776. Write a 5 page book review and watch a few movies that also require a 1 page summary/review. The tests(4 of them) were hard and tricky. Pols is not my favorite subject and if I had to do it again I would not choose to do it online.
Very easy A if you do the work. None of the assignments are due until the end of the semester, so it's pretty self paced. I got everything done by October and then just worked on the extra credit to get an A.
Essays required were easy and you'll most likely receive an A on all of them. Tests were tough though. If you make flashcards with the test review AND know the info from the lecture review - learning objectives you'll do great. But test questions are from BOTH sources not just the test review. Text book is a MUST.
I took this class online, if you do the assignments and follow the guidelines you'll get full credit on all of them. The test are hard! and timed! make sure you go through the entire study guide and know all the answers. we also had to read a book and write a five page review, but again, if you just do it you'll get full credit.
This class can be done on your own time! The tests were tough, but they were easy to pass so long as you read the chapters and the questions after each chapter. Do make sure you print down the Exam Reviews and answer them, they are KEY to an A in the class. The 1776 book is a good read and he grades VERY quickly!
Super chill online class! There are only a few assignments and then one 5 page paper, all of which are pretty easy! It's an at-your-own-pace online class which was super nice! Tests are tough - read the book, do the review, do the online lessons, study questions at the end of the chapters and you'll do fine! He grades super quickly too!!
Easy A if you do the work. One 5-page book review (which is extremely boring in my opinion.) Only 3 tests but they're tough. Three 2-page papers and one letter to Congress. Write the papers, follow the criteria, and you'll get full credit. All papers are opinion papers. If you need to fulfill your history req, take this one.
Great online class! You can work at your own pace which was awesome for me. Offers 1 extra credit assignment. Great online class!
Great class. I didn't have much time during the semester with all my other classes. And this class was perfect for my schedule! I would work on some things here and there when I had time and then turned it all in on the last day without any stress. Grades easily, easy assignments, and easy readings. Take this online class!
This class was very easy. It consisted of 4 major exams, which did require you to read the chapters in the textbook. I also had to watch 4 videos which were not boring at all, I enjoyed them. All the assignments were available the first day of class, it was really convenient to go at my own pace. Also there was a 5 page book report to write.
I loved this class so much! The lectures were always so interesting and exciting! I learned so much! Attendance isn't mandatory but you will miss a lot of important information if you skip often. Prof. Melton was always respectful to students when debates would arise during lectures, and responded to Canvas messages quickly. Take this class! :-)
This was a tougher online class, but doable! You can go at your own pace which is nice, but to be honest, he had quite a few movies and one page papers (super easy) but I had not idea what he was looking or as far as criteria. The tests were pretty tough too so make sure you study the lectures!!!
Only 3 papers, 3 tests, 1 book review. Meet the length requirement for papers, you'll get full points. Tests could be rough, but reading the chapters in the book and doing the reviews helped a lot. Recommend printing the reviews for tests out and answering the questions, good resource to use on the online tests, as most questions come from it.
This was one of the best online classes I have ever taken! Everything was online, so there was no need to go to the testing center. You can get by without the textbook, but its helpful on the tests. Homework consisted of watching a movie/video and writing a 1 page response. The book review was 5 pages. I didn't even read the book, and I got an A.
This was an awesome class! Everything was publish online and the assignments had no due dates! As long as everything was turned in by the end of the semester, you'd get full credit! Book Review was 5 pages, simple if you know what to do. Exams relied on the book and notes, but easy if you did the reading. This class is an easy A as long as you try!
He is an AMAZING teacher! Political Science is not something I am particularly good at. It was an online class, he had all the assignments open and all of them were due at the end of the term. You do the assignments you get full credit for them. Not a tough grader at all! He gives your test reviews, so as long as you review that you should be good.
The content of this class was spot on and important. The few assignments need to be done but are graded fairly. The tests on the other hand are brutal, so a lot of studying needs to be done in order to get a good grade. His expectations are crystal clear but the majority of your grade will come from the tests, and they are pretty tough.
Not a very difficult class. I would edit the study guide to have answers and page references and then print it out to use on the tests. There were either four or five papers, all but one were two pages and the last is a five page book review. If you meet the length requirement and kinda know what you're talking about you'll get full points.
I loved this online class. Everything was due on the last day of the semester which was very helpful to be able to go at your own pace. There are three tests which aren't too bad if you really read the textbook, three papers which were easy, a book review, and a letter to congress. Overall easy class, just read the textbook.
My favorite online class ever. Professor Melton is a real gem. He gives you the chance to learn things in a way that is positive and meaningful, without making you do mindless assignments. You do need to study to get good grades on the exams, but he lays out what you need to do to succeed in his course. I'd happily take him again any semester.
This class was an easy A for an online class! I procrastinated everything until the final weeks of class, and was able to get an A-! The papers are 2 page, basically just your opinion on the topic. You will need to read the book for the exams to get a good grade on those. Everything is due at the end of the semester, so you can go your own pace!
This is my second time taking an online POLS class from him. Lessons are online, he says you should read the chapter in the book, but I never did. 3 exams including the final (multiple choice), 3 two-page papers (opinion based), and a 5 page book report. Everything's on canvas, so I used my book/Google. Work at your own pace.
This class is an easy A. Do the assignments and you will do well. Its a do it at your own pace class so you can do it as fast or slow as you would like. But just don't wait till the last second! I recommend taking this class for your history credit.
Professor Melton is such a great teacher! He would always respond to my canvas messages quickly and help me if I didn't understand something. The class online was a bit difficult but if you study and really try you'll do just great! There is also an extra credit paper you can do that'll boost your grade by 5%. Highly recommended!
this class was a piece of cake. two papers, 3 tests. I did not study one bit. Nathan Melton is a great teacher and knows a lot about history. He cares about the students and is super chill. Would definitely recommend. DONT GET THE TEXTBOOK! I opened the textbook one time the whole semester, not worth getting
I struggled through this class. History is not my forte and he read his lectures. I had a hard time following along with class because of this and would often end up being side tracked. I think online or with another professor is the way to go.
Professor Melton is amazing. He's clear and focused in his lectures, and responds quickly to emails. He's incredibly knowledgeable about history and politics. He's the best professor at UVU.
The course was designed to go your own pace and everything was due at the same time which I really appreciated. The only reason why I didnt get an A is because I procrastinated and didnt do a book review assignment. The assignments werent difficult and didnt feel like busy work. Id recommend this course for someone who doesnt procrastinate.
Great history teacher. Knows his stuff and he is very personable with all students. You can tell he has a truly great passion for the founding of the USA.
I can't believe I am saying this but this class actually made me interested in politics. He is an amazing teacher and helped me to care and understand politics and history.
I liked Instructor Melton, I just felt like there was very little material to use to study for the exams. My first exam had questions that I don't even remember reading about or hearing during a lecture. Exams are open note...so that's saying something. Make sure to take notes during the lectures. The exams are more based on that, than the reading.
Easiest class i took this semester. All exams are open book and you can easily find the answers. Super chill dude. We never had homework besides to read 2-two hundred page books and then write a 5 page book review essay about them both. The essay was things you liked and learned from the book so it was super easy. He lectures a lot which is boring.
I took American Government and after every class I felt like I learned more every time. He is very informative and opinion based. He doesn't ever make anyone feel dumb about politics and cares that you grow your own experience and opinions. He gives lots of time to complete assignments and is very gracious with grading and respecting your thoughts.
