Very Easy class. Going is fun because you learn something useful and it makes the quizes much easier to pass
Very awesome professor! Attendance is not mandatory but you should go in order to succeed on the weekly quizzes. Also is not your typical college class. 15 quizzes total you will love it so go for it!
Palmer is a great professor. He cared about his students and is passionate about what he teaches. Class was always interesting... this is a great socio class to take!
Professor Palmer is an amazing teacher and gives great advice. He doesn't give tests, only homework. The homework does require you to think outside the box, but he does give lots of extra credit. I highly recommend him!
Professor Palmer was one of the best professors I have had since I have been attending GSU. He is always willing to to help his students out and gives the best advice. And best of all NO TEST!!!
I loved his class! One of the best professors I have ever had. He doesn't give tests or a real final. Class is fun and he really seems to love the subject he teaches. Palmer is a refreshing professor to have compared to "traditional" professors.
Pro. Palmer is amazing!! He's quarky and energetic and he's entertaining during every lecture. Plus he's totally in love with his job and loves doing what he's doing. Plus he's always open to getting to know people on a personal level. The quizzes are easy and you have an entire week for each and no real final! He's awesome!
Probably one of the best professors on campus. His class was very interesting and helpful. There are no test just quizzes. He also gives out tons of extra credit. I can't wait to take him again
Professor Palmer is a great teacher. I had to use the book a ton. He does give pop quizzes and lots of extra credit, so make sure you go to class!
Professor Palmer is one of the best instructors I've had to date! He makes class fun and interesting and relates the information clearly. He's also extremely helpful. You have weekly online quizzes and a couple of papers- only a couple of pages (but I've heard he's changing things up slightly.) I highly recommend taking him, you won't regret it!
Attendance is not mandatory, though it is smart to go. He gives you notesheets for every week that are basically in order of his lectures and you just fill in the blanks. Online quizzes are fairly easy, only 1 midterm w/ 2 essays was hard and final project. Overall, he's great!!
One of the best teachers at GSU! It's hard to find a teacher that is passionate about the subject they are teaching, but Professor Palmer is very passionate about what he does and that passion spills over into his students. He's a funny guy, class is pretty easy. Attendance not mandatory but everyone went because it was so interesting! TAKE HIM!!!
He is the best professor I've had so far at Georgia Southern. Very passionate about what he teaches. He even created his own website with most of the things from his lectures in class. The class is very easy if you pay attention. Not too much at all but is very helpful in the end. He gives essay tests to make sure you're paying attention in class.
Very interested in topic, great teacher, but loves to talk way too much! other than that, good teacher. just annoying
Palmer is a great teacher. He makes you want to not miss a class even when attendance isn't mandatory. Re-tells same stories a lot, so it gets annoying. You get random attendance points that add up so make sure you go to class. READ TEXTBOOK - quizzes are over readings only. They have nothing to do with what lectures are about. Overall GREAT prof.
I took him for my Intro. Socio. class with about 300 other people. Beware this man thinks that when he is handed a microphone it automatically makes him a comedian. Easy class as long as you stay on top of the work, he is also very easy to reach via email. Do not cheat! He checks everything!!!
Professor Palmer is a great teacher! His quizzes are kind of difficult & I had to use to the book to pass them. He gave extra credit for going to class & there were no tests. I am a visual learner & he showed a lot of videos & pictures which really helped. I recommend Professor Palmer!
Fun professor. I know professors wih doctorates who probably don't know as much as Mr. Palmer. He has a practical approach to Sociology and makes the material relevant to real life. He knows how to make learning fun.
He was one of the best professors I've had in college. Even though he taught multiple classes and some had 200+ students in them, he ALWAYS responded to e-mails in a timely manner. He is interesting to listen to so I actually came to class because I wanted to and not because I had to. If you take him you'll learn life lessons as well as Sociology.
Palmer is awesome! The class is easy, his stories are funny, and the tests are simple. He is probably the best teacher I've had so far. He rapped a whole Outkast verse to us and it was beyond epic. Nicest teacher ever.
He is by far one of the best professors I have had. If you take this class you really need to take him. He tends to change his lessons but I recommend showing up to every class because he will give out in class points some days. Over all a great class. Its an easy A if you do the work and show up!
The most amazing teacher I've ever had. He inspires me and keeps the whole class engaged. He is hilarious. This guy is one of the teachers you can tell actually wants to be there. He has never been angry with our class. Very helpful, hands-on, & fun approach to learning.
He's a very easy professor. Always giving out extra credit opportunities and tests are straight from HIS notes that he puts up online. The book are used for the online quizzes. He doesn't take attendance but going to class helps you understand more and he shows video examples that are on the tests. Great easy funny professor.
Great professor, makes the class enjoyable - even has a sense of humor. Makes everything easy to understand and posts his lecture notes on GaView. Take this guy.
Very engaging professor who loves his subject. Great to talk one-on-one with if you take an interest in Sociology. If you don't do well on the quizzes or tests, he gives you several opportunities to bring your grade up.
This was a pretty easy class and I probably should have gotten an A. This class was MWF at 9am so I missed about 2/3 of the classes. After a 95 on my first test I didn't even try to go to class. He is a nice guy, I think his class stuff if interesting, & you will probably have to read the textbook to do good on Quizzes & Tests.
Professor Palmer is a very funny guy. Genuinely good hearted. I recommend him as a professor. If you go to class every day, do the quizzes, and read the notes he provides, you will be successful. QUIZZES are important. The first time I took this class I made A's on my midterm and final but had an F for quizzes so I failed the class! QUIZZES QUIZZES
I thought professor palmer would be alot easier than i thhought. He was a great teacher but i only got B's on the quizzes and tests. He also gives alot of extra credit
He likes to joke alot so be prepared. Attendance isnt required but helps to go cuz he stresses important points. Gives alot of extra credit. I made an A with minimal effort. JUST READ THE BOOK!
From the ratings that I've seen, I took his class thinking that he would be understanding. Went to class EVERY day, completed ALL notes.I don't know if students have used him in the past or what, because he is SUPER guarded on helping students who need it. He will selectively "sympathize" instead of empathize & will not help you when you need it.
I took Environmental Sociology online. To do well on the quizzes you MUST READ!!! Be very thorough and specific on the assignments and papers. I got an A in the class but I wouldn't call it an "Easy A." Not hard either though. Id recommend it :)
Incredible professor. He makes the class very enjoyable and interesting. Don't take his quizzes lightly and you can easily attain an A.
Really interesting, I look forward to coming to class I love it.
He is a great professor! He is really funny in class, and so helpful. His office hours are open for anything- and wants everyone to do their best in his class. The class is never boring, he does have a lot of online quizzes but they are easy. You can't go wrong with taking him!
Palmer is absolutely awesome! As a freshman I came in undeclared but I am now a Sociology Major, his class is that interesting. Make sure you complete all the quizzes and read the book! Attend class for your clicker question points and study the module notes and you'll do awesome on the test! This is truly a great class and a great professor.
Professor Palmer is awesome! He is super helpful and clear about everything and keeps the class interesting at all times. He understands the students and what he needs to do to keep us interested and still learning at the same time. He is really funny and as long as you come to class and read the lecture notes, you should do well! Take this class!
Professor Palmer is great! He really wants to make sure that you learn and you understand what is going on. Come to class and take good notes! He is extremely funny and keeps the class interesting. Don't take the quizzes and tests lightly! But if you read the chapters, you will do fine. Take him if you can!
Awesome, eye opening class. You learn a lot and the topics covered will boggle your mind. Palmer is very funny and helpful. You don't really need to read the book if you pay attention in class or have the lecture notes. I am tempted to make my minor Sociology because of this class. Make sure you get his class, it will be worth it.
Doesn't put the notes on the PowerPoint, which isn't bad, but he doesn't explain/spell what he says and goes really fast. It's hard to comprehend the concepts when you can't keep up in the notes.
LOVED this class. Really easy to stay focused because he makes it so interesting. He posts outlines of notes which are VERY useful. Print them off and bring them to class. Gives iClicker points when you answer simple question which add up later in the semester which boosts your grade big time. Gave extra credit and all the tests come from note
Ehh. Took the class thinking that it was going to be an easy A. I was wrong. I HATED the online quizzes. The quizzes covered things in the book that weren't discussed in class, while the tests only covered class discussions.I would have gotten an A if it weren't for the quizzes.
This guy is a nut. Very good teacher. Honestly I loved everything about him and this class. the material is very interesting and easy to follow. TAKE HIM
Students should take Palmer's introduction to sociology class. He was a great teacher because he seemed to enjoy teaching the material and made it fun and interesting. Even though I took his early morning class, I wanted to be there because of this fact. Workload wasn't that much and reflects his notes. He offers extra credit plus makeup quizzes.
Professor Palmer was great. His class wasn't the easiest, and you pretty much have to attend everyday but you learn a lot and he went out of his way to make class interesting. If you get the chance to take him, GO FOR IT.
The subject was found to be really interesting. Though I had trouble with his tests, seeing as they were vague, I enjoyed the topics discussed in class and Palmer was great at explaining it. Just make sure to really study for his tests.
Prof. Palmer is amazing! He teaches very clearly and makes the class fun. I have him in a class of over 200 people and he tries to learn people names who participate. His tests and quizzes aren't easy, but I learned so much from his lectures. TAKE HIM.
He's really cool and the lecture is interesting but the quizzes and tests aren't easy. They're not impossible, you just need to study. And attendance is basically mandatory because of clicker questions
He was awesome. He made the subject relatable and interesting and easy to comprehend.
Dr. Palmer is hilarious! I loved going to his class because he has a great sense of humor and is clearly interested in his students opinions and thoughts. His tests are kind of hard though. Be sure to study off the notes he posts online AND your lecture notes. He gives a lot of application questions. BTW, MAKE SURE YOU READ FOR THE QUIZZES
Great Intro Professor! I loved going to class even though its not mandatory. Do all the extra credit assignments he tells you about at the beginning of class and take notes.
Definitely one the best teacher you could possibly take through your college career. He is very fair with grades. Going to class is not mandatory, but he makes class fun and interesting.
Makes class super fun, enjoyable, & relatable! Attendance isn't mandatory, but does give clicker grade. Tests are off the notes, but quizzes are from the book. The extra credit helps alot! Take him!
He is really funny and entertaining! It's a pretty easy class if you do all of the extra credit (extra work). The online quizzes are mostly easy thanks to google (the book is pointless). I was sort of surprised that I made out with an A since I made all B's on tests, and 60% or 100% on all quizzes. Tests are mostly from notes and quizzes. TAKE HIM
Great teacher very funny and interesting. Take the quizzes and study for the test all the notes are posted if you miss class. Attendance isnt mandatory but go to class he is funny.
I absolutely loved his class and he has a great sense of humor. His class brought a lot of things to my attention and made me more aware.
Amazing professor! Very passionate about sociology, makes lectures interesting and funny! Offers TONS of extra credit to boost your grade. The tests are easy and straight off his lecture notes & the examples he tells you in class. Go to the study sessions, and read his lecture notes and you'll have an easy A.
HILARIOUS! Really goes out of the way to teach what he's trying to get you to learn. Definitely will make you question your life and everything around you. Tests are kinda tricky but other than that he's seriously awesome. One of my favorite professors here at southern for sure. He's helpful, entertaining, and really loves what he does. I love it!
INCREDIBLE. Changed my minor to sociology b/c of him & this class. He's 1 of if not THE best professor I've had all my time here...definitely top 2. Knows what he's teaching, never a boring moment. Hilarious! Considering sitting in on this class again next semester just because I enjoyed it so much. He won professor of the year for a reason!
I didn't really know what sociology was when I signed up for this class. Summed up it is feminists, liberals, and hipsters all wrapped together. Professor Palmer will say he's trying to be neutral, but doesn't do a good job of it. His tests come out of the notes he puts online, but has attendance count for 10%. I don't recommend him or this class.
He gave me a 79.25 and wouldn't bump me up the extra .25 for a B, that basically sums him up as a person.
Best (and hottest) professor at GSU!
Prof Palmer is very interesting to listen to bc he is very passionate about socio & he makes the lectures entertaining. He grades attendance by iClicker so it's important to go to class but I think you can miss up to like 4 w/o penalty. The quizzes are straight notes from the book and the tests are the lecture notes and SGs he posts. Easy A/B
Come to this class with an open mind, prepared to take notes, and you will excel. This class is not hard at all. Professor palmer is a wonderful teacher and has a great sense of humor which makes the class so enjoyable.
Yes to Palmer! He keeps the class interesting and hes so funny! His tests are exactly like the notes. I recommend this class to anybody
Professor Palmer is wonderful! I think everyone should take his class even if it does not pertain to their major, he is hilarious and his class is extremely interesting!
I love this class! Palmer's lectures are easy to follow and he makes them interesting. He tells A LOT of jokes and stories to make it easier for you to understand the concepts he's talking about. Show up to class, take notes, and study those notes and you should easily get an A. B at the least.
Amazing professor- I wish he could teach all of my classes.
Professor Palmer is awesome! You should attend class just because the lectures are awesome if you enjoy the material, but he doesn't really take attendance. There are clicker questions every day, but they only count 11000 of a point. There are only a few tests which aren't hard if you study and there are online quizzes which go by the chapters.
I love Palmer and his class. I would have made a better grade if I would have went to class more often. I seriously recommend taking his class. He keeps things interesting and funny.
His class is extremely interesting and he is hilarious! He explains all of the concepts very well. He makes sure you are prepared for the tests by posting the lecture notes online and holding study sessions. Honestly if you fail this class it's just because you didn't put in any effort.
Palmer is seriously the best professor I have ever had. I went in to this class and I've come out with the intention of minoring in sociology because of him. I wish I could have him for all of my classes forever.
Professor Palmer is so great! His lecture's are really good, I actually look forward to coming to his class every Monday. Tests are straightforward as long as you study his online lecture notes and notes you take in class. I would definitely take him again! He's hands down one of the best professors at GSU!
He is a really funny professor and is pretty neutral when discussing controversial issues. His class is a little tough but he gives plenty of extra credit and is good about emailing you back. I would definitely suggest him. He really made me enjoy sociology.
I liked professor Palmer and would recommend taking him. he lectures everyday but puts all the notes online so you don't have to take any and his test are only over the notes. Just print out the online notes to study and you'll get an A. He does clicker questions that count for ALOT! so don't miss class. Don't buy the books, i never opened them.
I would recommend; he's fun and you learn a lot, more so than in other classes. Sociology is counter-intuitive and hard to study, but as long as you take notes, pay attention to what he has to say, and study for the occasional test it isn't too bad. He gave Honors students papers every other week, but other than that it's a pretty light workload.
This was my favourite class this past semester! He made sociology fun, exciting, and had a great sense of humor to keep it interesting! I'm really going to miss taking a class with him. Only two things were a drawback for me: #1: It was an early morning class. #2: There's a lot of rote memorization of material for the exams, which was overwhelming!
Palmer was one of my favorite teachers this semester. He was so funny and made class interesting and fun! As long as you know the notes online that he puts up for you, you will make atleast a high B on the test. You have to go to class because you use a clicker. Great professor, I would definitely take again!!
Awesome class, awesome professor. If you are not open to new ideas or opinions then you will not enjoy this class. Two textbooks, but I received an A without opening either. Great notes that you should print and bring to class. Uses clicker questions as attendance.
Such a great teacher, would definitely take him again. Lectures were usually really diverse and interesting, tests were taken directly from the module notes online. Gives a lot of extra credit, easy quizzes. Going to class ends up helping you a lot in the end!
ADORE Prof. Palmer! He was hilarious and made lectures super interesting! more than willing to help. There is reading assigned but honestly I got more from the lecture than the books (I read once). Highly recommend. Attendance is optional. It's not hard to attend an interesting class. Test straight from notes, and clicker questions!
Prof. Palmer was a great professor. There are quizzes but they are not very difficult and all online. He only gave 3 test all year including the final, the lecture notes are extremely helpful to study with and he does review sessions. Go to class for clicker questions, they count as a participation grade.
He is one of the best professors that I have taken at GSU. He is hilarious; you will enjoy going to class. He tells stories in class to help you get the info. You have to have an OPEN MIND with sociology. His test are straight from the lecture notes. DON'T buy the books; I got an A without buying them.
It was a good class with a good teacher I could have gotten and A if I tried just a little harder. do yourselves a favor and do all of his 5 extra credit assignments ahead of time so you can add 15 points to you final grade. I waited two weeks before finals week and I only had enough time to complete one. also be mindful of your clicker points
Professor Palmer is hilarious! He keeps you engaged, even at 9 AM. His lectures can be all over the place, which makes it hard to take good notes that flow well. However, he explains things thoroughly and gives tons of examples that will help you remember. Do the extra credit and go to class because the clicker points really matter!
AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGG teacher. He's funny, clear, interesting, and he knows what he's talking about? I LOVED HIS CLASS. I wish he taught every subject!!! HEGEMONY!!! (you'll understand my reference if you take his course)
Palmer is crazy, but he's one of the best professors I've had since being here at GSU. I would HIGHLY recommend taking him! He makes you want to learn about sociology and knows how to keep his students engaged. Expect to take notes every day and have your iClicker every day too!
I took sociology in high school and thought it was really boring. I took Professor Palmer's class and enjoyed every minute of it. I have him now and don't want the class to end. That is how much I enjoy him. If you're unsure on a sociology teacher, with out a doubt take him!
Professor Palmer is super easy. His lectures are interesting and the test are just like them. He does use Iclickers. You can pass the test by studying the lectures he puts on folio but go to class. It makes things so much easier and it isn't boring!
You can learn the material with minimal studying if you attend every class. The lectures aren't boring at all. ATTEND OFFICE HOURS IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. He's very understanding and easy to talk to.
Amazing professor! Very funny person and extremely kind! Gives out easy clicker points practically every class. I didn't need the text books at all, so you could skip getting those because he covers everything he wants from the books in lectures. Only 3 tests that were easy if you just skimmed over the notes and understood the concepts.
Go to class. Since it was a lecture hall class I never went but I was failing the test (there are only three- with no cumulative exam). He puts notes online that work as a study guide/ reading guide. If you read the textbook and pay attention in class you're guaranteed and A. He takes iclicker for attendance and gives extra 9credit.
Palmer is a very entertaining and knowledgeable person. He is really passionate and involved with sociology which makes sitting through a lecture (about sometimes controversial or boring topics) pretty alright. He does give 2 quizzes every other week but you can find the answers on quizlet. Tests are easy and extra credit is there. Definitely take.
Great Professor! He uses current and relatable examples that make learning the information easy & fun. Take advantage of the extra credit. If you take notes from the slides in class, you'll do fine. Pay attention to what he says, and write down the clicker questions and answers, these are sometimes examples of test questions.
Professor Palmer was the best teacher I have had since I've been at GSU. I didn't do good on a test and went to his office hours and he sat down and went through the test with me to teach me what I got wrong. TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM.
Very good professor. His lectures were always interesting and his test questions came straight from his notes that he posts on Folio. His study sessions are also really great. He has clicker questions everyday in class so it is "mandatory" but you can miss class a few times without it affecting it. would take this class again any day.
Great guy. Took him twice
Professor Palmer was one of the best professors I had so far at Georgia Southern! As long as you go to class and participate, listen you will pass. I passed with a C, I could have done much better but I ended up getting lazy towards the end of the semester. A lot of Extra credit is given and easy!
He is just good at what he teaches. We did have SIFs every other week, they are not long to do. Just an article summary. Quizzes due every other week as well, not hard to do. And only 3 tests including the final and it is not cumulative. He is hilarious also! Take him and make sure you do good on tests bc it is only 3. Clicker points for attendance
Palmer's sociology class was great! I had little interest going into the class, but he made me think in a different light. I had the class at 9:05am, but he made it easy to wake up. He gives a ridiculous amount of extra credit that can bring you up a full letter grade if you do it. But you have to go to class because there are clicker q's every day
Really nice guy! Sociology is not my preferred subject of interest, but he would try to find ways to make it more fun. Class was pretty dry. Mostly just listening to him talk and taking notes. Tests were straight forward though. Take him if you can!
I loved Professor Palmer. All his lectures were funny and easy to relate to. He made learning the subject easy and interesting. He will go out of his way to help you and make sure you understand the content. Attendance isn't mandatory but clicker points are a large portion of your grade so you should go to class :)
If you couldn't already tell, Palmer is by far one of the best prof. on campus in general. He's hilarious, makes topics relatable, and is willing to help ALL students. He's passionate about sociology, and understands that everyone is different, so he does what he can to make it as easy as possible. You do have to work for an A, but he makes it fun.
Best professor in the sociology department
Dr. Palmer is my favorite professor at Georgia Southern! I take his intro to sociology class, and I couldn't love it more. It's complicated to understand, but he makes it so easy. He is so funny and easy to get along with! If you get the opportunity, take him!!
Professor Palmer was my first experience with a lecture class of 255 students. He made class enjoyable the entire semester and I only had to study an hour or two to do well on his tests. The course is reading heavy but it is easily understood and mostly definitions and concepts. His lectures were always fun to sit through and he adds great humor
I would not even consider taking Sociology unless it's with Palmer. He is such a fair guy and is always willing to help. If you go to class, do the homework, and study a few hours before the test, you will be just fine! I would recommended him to anyone. He makes this class so interesting.
Professor Palmer was an incredible teacher. He made going to a MWF class so worth it and interesting. This was not my favorite class, course material; however, he is amazing and I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Prof. Palmer is a very laid back teacher. He brings in concepts you can relate with when explaining certain things to you. No class is boring, they're just long. Beware of the online quizzes, they're due almost every Monday. He has a passion for sociology that you can see while he's teaching. Definitely pick him.
He is a great professor! He's funny, cares about his students, is helpful. Sociology isn't that bad with him. Attendance clickers in each class, and there's only 2 tests with a final.
Would recommend him! I'm not really interested in the subject, but he teaches it pretty well and is a kind guy. His stories are pretty funny, though class can seem to drag on. None of the work is hard, just make sure you do all of it. Weekly online quizzes, 5 mini summaries, iClicker questions(attendance), and 3 tests. Really isn't bad. Take him!
Approachable, caring, and willing to help at any time. Attends to issues you may have in a timely manner and makes you feel like an individual, not just someone random in his class!
This course has a lot of vocab. words, but that is pretty much all you need to know. As long as you show up to class and do minimal studying before tests, it will be an easy A.
Dr. Palmer gave very interesting lectures. As long as you study all the notes he puts on Folio before each test you should make at least a B on his tests. Going to class helped me because he gave great examples for everything he went over, but the examples aren't in his notes online yet were sometimes on the tests. Overall, a fun class!
He is so exited about the class and happy to be there you need to take his class he makes it interesting and accessible
Professor Palmer is great! I was a little skeptical about sociology at first, but he made it interesting. He is very animated so be ready for some dad jokes and lots of references that he thinks are hilarious. Lectures are pretty straightforward go to class for clicker questions, he talks and you leave. I definitely recommend his class!
He is by far one of my favorite professors at Georgia Southern. He is a pretty quirky dude, but he makes his lectures very interesting. You have online "reading" quizzes due every week, but they are super easy and I never read for them. You have random clicker questions for attendance. If you put in a little effort, you'll get an A.
Mr. Palmer is a nice man and will answer your questions all day. I did well on everything in his class except the two tests we had, i found them incredibly difficult. usually sociology classes are easy to ace if you pay attention and do the work but I failed both of his tests. I still got a B though.
He's really funny in class and pretty cool, but I studied really hard for the tests and still didn't make an A.
this professor is hilarious. the class was pretty easy, and there were lots of opportunities for grades. the only thing was the tests were hard. theres iclicker questions in class for a grade so you have to go. overall great class
Dr. Palmer is great. He uses personal stories and well-organized lectures to teach. He is definitely one of the best instructors I've ever had, hands down. I would recommend taking any of his classes. The tests aren't the easiest, but as long as you take good notes and study, you should be fine.
Dr. Palmer is an awesome professor! His lectures are often funny, and he's one of realest people out there. He knows what it's like being a student, and he will often times straight up tell you what you do and don't need to do. He posts key concepts every week but does iClickers for attendance. Tests can be difficult if you don't study.
Dr. Palmer is AN AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! His dad jokes are hilarious! He is a kind and helpful professor. He wants his students to do well. Just make sure to go to class so you can click in, read the key concepts doc ( or write notes), and then the class should be a breeze. He also gives out extra credit so, thats great too.
Amazing professor 10/10 recommend. Hes a super funny guy and he really loves what he teaches and is great at it
If you take notes and pay attention you should walk out of his class with an A
Dr. Palmer is the best professor I've ever taken. He is so passionate about his work and I looked forward to going to his class.
Dr. Palmer is one of the best professors i ever had. He is hilarious and very understanding. Would definitely recommend!
He will require you to buy a textbook for SOCI 1101. Do not buy it! I wasted $70 for the online textbook and never used it! Attendance is basically mandatory, because of the IClicker questions that are done everyday. Class is really easy, and tests can be studied using just the Key Concepts that he posts, so you really don't need to take notes.
Dr. Palmer is easily the best professor I've taken at GSU. He makes every class interesting and as long as you listen and takes notes it's an easy A! I don't think I used the book once! He doesn't make you purchase the access code either he leaves everything open so you can complete all the quizzes during the free trial. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Palmer is still one of my favorite professors. I took him for various classes Fall 2011 to 2014. He taught me how to not be a linchpin. I still remember the things he has taught me 7 years later. He is so passionate. His classes are so fun and interesting. I transferred to a new university and I wish he was teaching the classes here.
Professor Palmer is absolutely one of the best professors at Georgia Southern. He makes his lectures interesting, cares about his students, and really tries to work with you. He gives bonus points at the end of the semester, and has random attendance quizzes that help your grade too. He's all around a great professor, definitely recommend!
Love him! All lectures but he makes it interesting with real-world examples or his own life stories. Really cool guy and great teacher. Participation is graded by IClicker points but gives you a 4 day grace period. Quizzes and essays are easy and easy As to boost your grade if you actually do them. Would take him again if I could!
Definitely take this class, Palmer is an amazing professor. He makes class fun, exciting, and engaging. He clearly respects his students and wants to help everyone. His class isn't very reading-heavy, but you will be expected to thoroughly learn topics.
Dr. Palmer is so freaking dope! I took his sociology class this fall and my mind was legit blown. Palmer is definitely one of the best lecturers I've taken at Georgia Southern so far. I would HIGHLY recommend this guy if you have to take sociology. The class is easy and the tests aren't that hard either.
I loved this professor! He is so funny which makes class fun for everyone. Showing up isn't mandatory but he does iclicker questions every class period which makes up all of the in class credit. Offers 15 points of extra credit which helps a lot! If you study and memorize the key concepts he gives you before the test, you're set to make an A.
I literally love Dr. Palmer. Funny lectures that connect the content to real life examples to make the info memorable + easy to digest. Will proof-read essays + help you during office hours. I regularly looked forward to his class bc his lectures were THAT good. Show up, ACTUALLY engage and put in medium effort and youll learn a lot plus get an A.
I loved this class. Professor Palmer always has stories which adds to his lectures. He is just one of those people who knows how to teach and makes sure you understand. Would definitely recommend this class to everyone!
Professor Palmer is a very good and interesting professor. He makes class fun and always has some story to tell. His class is averagely easy and very interesting . 10 out of 10 would recommend taking sociology with him.
Professor Palmer is an amazing teacher. I was always interested in attending his class. His assignments, quizzes, and test are all online. In class we just went over power-point slides. He is a great person to be around. He is hilarious and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an easy A class.
Nathan Palmer GOAT at GSU
One of my favorite professors so far. Very lively and energetic when giving lectures. Doesn't have a boring or monotone voice while lecturing which helps keep things interesting. Attendance was not mandatory at all. Is also very nice about accommodations as well for students registered with SARC.
He's a very funny professor who knows how to make students with little prior knowledge of sociology understand it very well.
Great professor. Great guy all around, love the guy. He speaks and acts just like a college kid so it makes it super entertaining and easy.
This course IS NOT EASY! The assignments are easy but they are weighted so little that is honestly doesn't even matter. The test are not what he says they are going to be like, they are not straight forward, and the wording of the questions makes it very easy to get confused. TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!!!!
The test have nothing to do with what he tells you to study. If you take this professor, good luck.
Your overall grade in this course depends on the 4 exams. They make 0 since from what he tells you to study.
Prof. Palmer was the speaker at orientation. Loved the way he presented material I couldn't care less about. Had him my first semester for 1101; he was instantly my favorite professor. He had to cancel class last-minute two times for deaths in his family. Whole time, he was super respectful to us about it and never forgot about us. Love this guy.
Super interactive with his lectures and knows how to get a good laugh out of you. There were 4 tests, they're easy if you pay attention and look over the key concepts he posts. Super caring and will help in any way he can.
Very funny during lectures. Lectures are clear, concise, & entertaining. However, the course is EXTREMLEY lecture heavy. That is all every class will be. Gives a lot of assignments that are not boring so you have chance to get more grades. Only thing I would say is that the exams are sometimes different than what's taught & hard to understand.
He was so nice and helpful. Friendly as well, we would have a small talk about his lecture after class
Professor Palmer keeps the class engaging with his lively lectures and entertaining stories. I found Unstuck AI really helpful for reviewing key concepts and preparing for tests. Overall, a super caring professor who wants students to succeed.
Took one undergrad course and now I am at the grad level. I still appreciate his courses and the knowledges shared. I would definitely recommend he's very enlightening. I worked three jobs and could still maintain his readings and assignments.
He listens, he cares about his students' wellbeing, and he is relatable! Social Problems consisted of 13 reading analysis assignments, 2 tests, and a big final project, which is a group project. Every aspect of his class is designed to help you succeed. If you try even a little, you'll at least get a B. One of my fav classes!!!
attendance is not required but showing up definitely helps when you get to the exam. exams consist of the key concept terms and things he has said during lecture. lots of essays but as long as you complete them and stay mostly on topic you'll do great. the class website helps when it comes to studying. lectures get long but keeps it interesting
He always takes the full time of the lectures and can get a little yappy, but he is a nice guy. He is super easy to work with regarding late work and things of that nature. You do not really have to go to class as long as you really know the words on the vocab quizzes. Just review those and the powerpoints and show up to the in person test
I really enjoyed him! I struggled in the middle of the year so my grade wasn't as high as I wanted, but he's a great teacher! Very easy going, accommodating and understanding. Posts all lectures, but I'd still go because some things he says help concepts stick better. Only point off is his tests may seem misleading to some.
I took his class this semester and enjoyed it a lot more than expected. This class definitely made me see the world differently because of the material. He likes to talk a lot but he doesn't get off track. The assignments are not too difficult to handle and the tests are easy to study for. I would definitely recommend this teacher and this class.
