Not going to lie this is a hard class. Got a 50 on the first test but don't worry it will get better. Take great notes, read your textbook and find a study buddy. It won't be an easy class, know how to apply all the topics for any test. But Dr. Redding is super nice, he cares about the grades and will work with you on everything.
He is a really nice guy but the class is hard. I have failed both tests so far but I would not say that it is all on him. His lectures are boring but he is super nice and willing to meet with you outside of class. Read the textbook, take great notes and do every extra credit possible and you will be fine.
Redding is without a doubt a friendly dude who cares a lot about the success of his students. He shows this by making himself quite available outside of office hours. However, his class itself is incredibly structured around the readings and relies solely upon exams (and extra credit) to make up your grade. Make sure you stay on top of the readings
He's a nice guy, but he makes class SO boring. He presents a huge amount of material for each test and goes very in depth on everything. There is a lot to study! If you want to just memorize a ton of information, take this class. Attendance counts and there are tophat questions each class that count towards your grade. He gives a small amount of EC
THIS LAB IS SO BORING. It's the worst lab I have ever taken at Clemson. Get ready to listen to an hour lecture at the beginning of lab and then spend the next full 2 hours DRAWING and COLORING 15 pages worth of microscope slides. You'll leave this lab with hand cramps.
Dr. Redding is a nice guy, but his class is way too hard to be a gen-ed. He makes the test questions SO specific. you need to read and go to class in order to do good in here. his lectures are very boring. pretty hard class, you definitely have to study a lot
Dr Redding is always accessible outside of class and a friendly guy but his class is very complex. The tests cover a very large amount of information and you have to study many days or weeks in advance if the material does not come easily to you. His lectures and powerpoints could definitely be improved to help clarify some very confusing topics.
Dr. Redding is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He posts all of his lecture slides online and is so helpful during office hours. I am taking him again next semester and can't wait.
Dr. Redding is such a nice guy and genuinely cares about your success, but this class is by no means an easy A. Study for exams well in advance and DO THE STUDY GUIDES (he really helps you out with what will be on the exam). Also tons of extra credit for a grade boost and with good attendance he pushes borderline grades. Overall, I recommend.
Dr. Redding is the sweetest professor ever. He doesn't care class if you walk into his class 30 mins late or if you need to leave early. This class is not the easiest, but if you keep up with the readings you should do fine. He also gives a lot of extra credit so you can bring your grade up a few points.
Dr. Redding is a very sweet and caring professor. His tests are not easy, but if you stay caught up with the readings you will be fine. He truly cares about his students and gives lots of extra credit. I would take him!
If you can avoid this class and professor, do it at all costs. I have never had a class I hated more.
He's a really good lecturer and is very easy to follow in class. His tests can be difficult but if you put the work in by doing the study guide and actually paying attention in class, you're pretty much guaranteed to do well.
Dr. Redding provides you with all of the lecture slides and very detailed study guides to help prepare for the test. He is so helpful in office hours and provides you with application questions to make sure you fully understand the topic. He is so nice and funny and genuinely. I definitely studied a lot, but he gives A LOT of extra credit.
The course content is difficult and you will not do well if you skip classes since some test questions are on the extra information he gave in class to compliment the powerpoint slides (examples, further explanations, etc.). He gives A LOT of extra credit opportunities, do them all they help! He's a slow prof but it's helpful in the difficult units
I took Dr. Redding for a bio in the news class this summer and he has been wonderful! This class is NOT hard and he really cares about his students. His class has a couple of assignments every week but they should not take anymore than 15 mins to complete. I am not a science person but he used cool short articles to make it fun. Highly recommend!!
I feel as though Professor Redding would have been better in person. The lectures are very long and contain lots of information. The tests are very hard and the information must be studied along. The class requires lots of self discipline to keep up with the work. He does provide lots of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Redding was a fabulous choice for bio. Bio at a clemson itself is already difficult, even though it is a general ed class. His class was 80% tests and 20% homework which was online and was easy as he allowed two attempts. The book is online but his lectures are the most important. As long as you review entirely, you will do good!
Dr. Redding is super nice but this class is not easy. This class covers A LOT of material in short periods of time and the exams are no joke so make sure you study as much as you can. He gives extra credit opportunities and the homework assignments are easy. The lab that goes with the class will help you understand the material.
Dr. Redding was awesome! Could not recommend him more... Biology 1030 is really difficult and he definitely made it bearable. He gives a ton of extra credit on the tests which can be difficult. I got a 107% on the final... this class is very doable. Super caring and genuine guy! I can imagine he'd be even better in person. READ THE TEXTBOOK!!
Does give extra credit and wants you to pass but you have to work for it
His lectures have a lot of info but they're very thorough. He gives lots of EC opportunities and homework assignments to help your grade. You need to study a lot for exams and not just the night before. You can tell he really knows his stuff and cares about his students. He's very nice and answers your questions thoroughly.
Dr. Redding was a good teacher who clearly cares about his students a lot. He is pretty nerdy but also funny. However, if you are a person that can't learn from a spoken lecture, he is not the teacher for you. All of his classes are lecture based with little written notes.
Dr. Redding is always understanding if life comes in the way of school if you just communicate with him. It is super easy to get a good grade if you just take good notes and pay attention in class; his exams mimic his lectures. He offers LOTS of extra credit early on, so always do it and you will be golden.
Great professor, can not say enough great things! I took this course in the summer as an easy A for a biology credit and it exceeded my expectations! No attendance or class meetings either.
Not a bad professor but definitely the hardest out of the biology professors here. You can succeed with him but if you can take someone else do that because they are much more forgiving.
Dr. Redding is a great teacher and cares for his students! As long as you listen to his lectures and take good notes, the tests are a breeze!
Prof. Redding is genuinely the hardest out of all the instructors for this course. His class is very lecture heavy with very little notes. His exams are extremely difficult and he does not offer much to prepare for them. I honestly did better when I stopped going to lecture and just taught myself straight from the textbook. Would not recommend.
Definitely the roughest of the Bio professors. Most good ratings here are from his online class. In-person though? Powerpoint slides - terrible and unhelpful, lectures fail to help conceptualize anything, and none of the homework assignments teach the exam questions. Zero resources for his exams, makes you teach yourself basically. Never again
He is very smart but his test averages are WAYYYYY lower than the other biology 1100 teachers. You can study all you want you won't do as good as you hope.
Dr. Redding is one of those professors whose love for biology is contagious. You can tell he really knows his stuff and is great at explaining relatively complex topics. This course is lecture heavy and you HAVE to study days in advance if you want consistently high grades. He is willing to meet with you to discuss your grades and is super kind.
Exams are extremely difficult compared to material learned in class. Definitely the hardest Biology 1100 professor. Rarely responds to emails, no EC even though exam averages are low, and doctors excuses aren't always taken. Take another professor if at all possible, even if its an 8am. I study for HOURS and my exam grades do no reflect it at all.
He doesnt care for his students and their situations. All of his tests are on material he doesnt teach so you are better of going with another professor.
Dr. Redding does not show much care for his students and makes his tests way too conceptual and specific. If you haven't taken AP Bio, this class is extremely difficult, and even if you have good luck. I attended every class and didn't even pick up on half the small little details he tested on.
Prof. Redding is actually a really nice guy and you can tell he cares about students. The class is hard, but definitely doable. The textbook helps a lot!
Dr. Redding is THE BEST! He is easily the best lecturer I have ever had and is so talented at teaching. He makes everything so much clearer, and is also very kind and personable. Always willing to do review sessions and gives great feedback, plus he always keeps us updated. His tests are reasonably difficult, but if you study you will succeed. :)
I honestly really enjoyed having Redding. The class itself is not easy but Redding made it much easier to succeed. Redding gives around four PowerPoints for each test and takes questions directly from the PowerPoints. So as long as you know the PowerPoints you should be fine.
super nice guy. stays behind to answer questions. tests arent easy but if you studying, you'll do well.
He records lectures incase you got sick and had to miss class. Class isn't mandatory, but if you pay attention in lecture you'll do well. His slides are like the tests, his homework is only for completion, plus some grade my lab mastering assignments, and he gives 3 extra credit opportunities on tests. Holds review sessions before each test.
Hes SUCH a nice professor and love him as a person but his intro classes are so difficult if you have no biology background. Everyone says the powerpoints are basically the test but seems like they arent.
He is very nice and you can tell he understands the concepts well. His lectures are long and information dense so skipping class is not recommended. However, he does a great job at explaining concepts. Taking him again in the spring!
Dr. Redding is well liked and you can see his love for plants through his lectures. The class is test heavy, and theres very little hmwk. No attendance policy either. Very nice man and cares about his students.
Absolutely loved Dr. Redding! Well-organized class and he made it clear what was due and what is expected. Gives completion grades for homework that you can use to study. He makes sure you are prepared for the exams. This is a hard class but Dr. Redding made me enjoy it and obviously is passionate about bio and is always happy to help you.
I took Biol1100 with Prof Redding. Super nice, and was more than willing to answer any questions asked. Gives Mastering Bio assignments, due once or twice a week and a few other homework assignments that are participation grades. His class is very lecture heavy so it is hard to miss a day. However, I enjoyed having him as a professor!
Professor Redding was super organized and helpful. You can clearly tell he is passionate about biology and loves to teach. Homework is for practice and is not graded. He records his lectures and posts them in case you are sick and can't make it to class. Provides study guides that are very helpful for the exams. Lectures are easy to follow.
Hands down the most wholesome professor ever. Lectures can be long at times, but he is very kind and wants you to succeed in his course. He makes his class very manageable for students, and is just the sweetest dude ever.
I didn't care about plants until I took Dr. Redding's class. His passion is infectious, and he was great at making information accessible through examples and metaphors. It was very vocabulary-heavy -- some of my quizlets were 100+ cards long -- but a majority of the exams were just applying definitions, so at least they were easy to study for.
He is an great resource if you just ask him. Always will make time outside of class to met with him and will hold study sessions before exams.
Professor Redding is a good professor that is truly trying his best to help students. He is very understanding and makes accommodations that are in the best interest of the student. However, his class is structured on the basis of studying for hours and hours a day. The lectures are also very dense
Professor Redding is one of my favorite professors at Clemson. He is really passionate about what he teaches, and is very kind . You have to put effort in to get an A, but as long as you put in the time, you'll be just fine. I suggest making a quizlet of all of the slides for each unit (or use a friends).
Dr.Redding was the best bio professor ever. He had lectures really clear and gives study guides for every chapter. Workload was very manageable and HW was actually helpful. Super nice guy and def recommend. You can definitely tell he cares about his students.
Dr. Redding made this biology class very enjoyable. Attendance is not mandatory and he records every lecture so you can go back and watch. His lectures do move pretty fast, but he provides study guides for each exam and they really help.
This is a class you have to keep up with and is very test heavy. His lectures remind me of a ted talk but you have to use the study guides and fill them out during class. I wish I learned how to keep up with it earlier in the semester.
Dr. Redding is super kind and very intelligent. He is easy to meet with outside of class, explains things well, and has amazing lectures. The only homework are once a week ten question assignments and mastering biology (30ish MC). He gives study guides (you have to fill it in) which are similar to the exams. Exams are multiple choice and T/F.
Dr. Redding has made biology very manageable. His lecture styles are great as he encourages and leaves time questions. He is super approachable and willing to help if you reach out. His homework problems set you up for the exams. His lectures are very easy to understand and move at a pace easy to follow. Your overall grade mainly based on exams.
Although the lectures can be long and get kind of boring, Dr. Redding is a very kind man and you can tell he loves his job. He assigns reading every class and a couple of homework assignments per week. His tests are not too difficult as long as you stay on top of your work! Would definitely recommend having him as your professor.
Professor Redding is an amazing professor who really loves and understands Biology. This class is a hard class, no matter who you take, but as long as you put in the time, and fill out things like the study guides he gives for each chapter, you'll be able to do well. I 100% recommend taking Professor Redding for Bio 1100.
He's very nice but not very clear on answering questions. Having the Mastering Biology and Homework assignments were great grade boosters.
Lectures are not interesting or engaging, making it hard to pay attention. I ended up doing my homework for the class in lecture and reteaching myself lol. Gives alot of homework but most is only graded for completion. Exams are straightforward with material covered. Gives good study guides and is a really helpful and nice guy.
Dr. Redding definitely has the hardest exams out of the other profs for this course, but all material is covered in class. It's a lot of studying and memorization, but he's super helpful and really wants you to succeed. I even slept through an exam once, and he was very understanding and let me take the test late for full credit. Highly recommend!
He is amazing! Amazing, interactive lectures. Incredibly understanding and caring. My favorite professor for life.
Dr. Redding is a very engaging and kind teacher who's passionate about what he does. His exams are very straightforward and not too difficult if you study. Class has small amounts of homework that is not time consuming. He's great if you have questions and makes a content heavy course manageable.
Dr. Redding is an amazing professor and his lectures are slides heavy but so well-taught. If you pay attention during lecture (which are also recorded) and do the homework, you're sure to get a clear understanding of the content and the connections between topics. His exams are challenging but his study guides will prepare you very well!
Great professor and very knowledgeable. The slides are super information heavy but if you pay attention in class/listen to the online lectures you will definitely get an A or B. The tests are pretty hard but if you go over the information and know it, they are very doable. Just stay on top of your homework and study and you will be fine
Amazing professor for bio 1, 2, and plant bio!! To get a good grade on his exams, fill out and study the study guides he posts. Those pretty much sum up the material on the exam. There are extra credit opportunities hidden throughout the course in the syllabus, homeworks, or slides sometimes. Does review sessions on Zoom before exams. Super nice!!
I had him for BIOL 3040 and 4040. Very lecture heavy and the exams are difficult if you don't study correctly or the correct information. He does make us study guides as a guideline to review. Definitely review the material after each lecture, it is a lot of information! He does offer extra credit opportunities as well.
Dr. Redding is an amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and is very accessible if needed. I have received A's on all of his exams simply by reading the textbook and doing his study guides, which are extremely helpful. Do them if you want to do well! Highly recommend Dr. Redding!
Very knowledgeable professor, but not accommodating in the slightest. Also seemed somewhat demeaning when speaking to outside of class. Lectures are boring but recorded, which makes it tempting to skip class. Textbook HW assignments and exams are the only grades. ⚠️IF YOU TAKE HIM, READ THE SYLLABUS THERE IS EXTRA CREDIT EMBEDDED IN IT!⚠️
Mr. Redding is exceptionally kind and wants his students to succeed. However, his exams are very material-heavy and hard to study for. All he gives you are study guides that have a list of questions to answer. Minor is an easier professor whose tests often include questions from homework.
Super passionate professor with engaging lectures and is nice and approachable. The content gets very detailed (more so than the other BIOL 1110 proffessors) but his exams are straightforward if you review his powerpoints and DO THE STUDY GUIDES! Just listen in class, do the study guides, and invest in Quizlet Plus for success in this class.
Redding was amazing! He is such a nice guy, and his lectures were very engaging. He gave study guides for every unit, and the exams were not challenging if you prepared. There were ample bonus opportunities throughout the semester. Do well in lab and you will make an A without much trouble!
Dr. Redding is overall a great professor. I like his teaching, but sometimes classes can be very boring. I had BIOL3040 and BIOL 4040 with him, the class is very challenging with lots of reading and an unmanageable amount of information. Be prepared to read a lot.
Dr. Redding is very easy going and professional. He uploads all his lectures on to canvas and you are free to access them regardless of attendance to the weekly lectures. His tests are tougher there are only four of them, one being the non-cumulative final. My best advice is to actually study for his exams, not just study the night before.
He was a good teacher though he is kind of monotone and boring, he does not give practice tests and the other bio teacher does
This professor makes this class harder than it has to be. His exams are tough and worded weird / hard to apply. I would not recommend.
I would not recommend. The exams were extremely hard, and once you do bad thats it
I would not recommend this professor. very difficult exams and questions. not straight forward, and the study guides to not help because there is just too much information on them to narrow anything down. he thinks he is different / special. he is not.
Thought this class was super easy, especially after taking AP bio. The lectures do get a bit boring though sometimes, especially if you have the longer lecture period. He records and posts the lectures and as long as you know everything on the slides, thats exactly what is going to be on the tests.
i do not recommend. not a good professor and exams are difficult.
He's a great professor who is always open to questions. The powerpoints are also to the point and easy to understand. Great overall professor.
He is nice and tries to keep everyone engaged. Start studying as soon as you take notes and review the slides. Tests come straight from the slides so keep that in mind.
Good professor overall, exams are nearly impossible.
I enjoyed Dr. Redding lectures, he tried to make the toppings interesting. I will say a key part to the class that even he tells you is to read the textbook before so you know some stuff going into the lecture, then after the lecture I made flashcards and studied those. Its a lot of memorization but if you know it the exams are super easy.
He was a good professor but you just have to study a lot since his tests are detailed
Tests are reasonable if you study the material well in advance, complete the study guides he posts, and do the homework. Everything on the homework is important, as it will be tested on a few key points from that. He is very sweet and willing to help, just ask! I will also pay attention to plant concepts, since he is a plant guy.
Lectures were very informative and the homework was easy to grasp. On the other hand the exams felt almost impossible, he says the exam is based on lectures and exams but it is a bit more.
