would not advise taking
in his words, paralyzingly self-concious; hard, class discussion GOOD, passion
absolutely a wonderful teacher, very intellectual and sarcastic. 5 stars

Mr. Salsbury is not only unclear in directions on assignments and papers, but he can't let bad things go. He repeats himself way to much and puts humor in places it does not belong. Strongly advise not taking him.
Very nice professor, but very unclear during lectures at times. It is evident that he is passionate about what he teaches and that is not a bad thing. Tests are not easy at all, as he is very detail oriented. Take only if willing to work hard.
his tests are extremely hard, and taking notes can be a problem because he talks too fast and jumps from subject to subject, but he obviously loves his subject matter
Phrases like meet me halfway , cut and dry , that dog will hung , i'm gonna switch gears , we're getting off the worn path , ok gang , i'll smother you in a blizzard of paperwork are said constantly in his class. Never ever take this fool.
remember to read in RW, he gives random quizzes that will kick ur butt. write a bit of papers. gets off the subject, kinda dorky acting, and always runs out of real estate

Loves English Literature. Cares about what he teaches. Repetitive statements drag on a bit but certainly not a reason to pass this man. His test are hard and very long for a 50 minute class but he tells you all you need to know.
This kid must have studdered a lot as a kid, and phrases such as that dog'll hunt, that's heading down a rabbit trail, let's get back to the text, the proof is in the pudding, cream of the crop, soft fastball right down the middle are cliche and tiresome

This Guy took off one whole letter grade b/c I spelled a word wrong. He uses those dumb phrases like, Meet me half-way, we're going to change gears now, you just hit that one out of the ball park. Anyone who loves english this much is just messed up!!
Nate's a good guy who likes what he does. He's still learning on the job, but will one day be a great prof.

Overall, i actually liked Salsbury. Not too tough, but irritating to be in his class if your in a bad mood. Very cliche oriented, but still good and easy.
he is a ok teacher. he is acting like hes so new at teaching and stuff. he can teach pretty good for a beginner. that class was pretty easy..not bad!
Mr. Salsbury cares a lot about his students; his directions are also very clear. If you're a slack a** do not take his class! He is hard but fair.
I love this teacher! He is by far the best english teacher. He is very clear and very nice. Yes he does use alot of cliches, he keeps me awake and is very caring!!
Mr. Salsbury is a really nice guy who is more than willing to help you out if you need it. The notes are very repetitive, but you know what he expects. You have reading to do, but it's usually brief. Easy class.
Notes are very repetitive. In the middle of saying something he will stop because he thinks hes getting of topic. Its very annoying, I'd rather him go off on his little tangent. His test are hard, all definitions and fill in the blank.
i loved the class. made english fun for a change.
This guy is the worst teacher I have ever had. He rambles all the time, makes no sense, takes an hour to make a 10 minute point. This guy just flat out sucks! None of his assigned papers make sense. Hard and boring.
Mr. Salsbury is an excellent teacher! He knows his material and expects you to prepare. Don't take him if you don't read- the quizzes are hard!
Rambles on and on. Not a very good english teacher...I love english and this class made me hate it! I've definetely had better teachers.
I am a senior and I have a 4.0 GPA, I'd like to think I am a pretty fair judge with experience at this school.. and I must advise everyone to avoid this man like the plague. He rambles, he is boring, and he is a jerk (i do not say that lightly). Also, his intelligence is somewhat lacking. AVOID!!!
I don't have a 4.0 GPA. Then again, I am not majoring in under-water basket weaving or history or something like that. However, I think you enjoy reading and enjoy writing, you will like his class. He well help you on your papers and is very flexible. Interesting class, great prof.
Mr. Salsbury is a good teacher! He does ramble sometimes, but he is very enthusiastic about the material. Don't take him if you're an illiterate PGM or business major.
uhhhh...this man drove me crazy the whole semester. DONT take him, he's a jerk. One second he is Mr.nice guy.. the next, jerk.
Funniest Things Said by Salsbury: -Well, I will now put away my small violin -Ride one horse at a time -Its time to circle the wagons -You will have wiggle room -and a course, my all time favorite, I have a good feeling about this This man has some serious issues and needs to be fired!!
He repeats himself OVER and OVER and OVER... His directions are unclear; and while I suppose he could be worse, he's still pretty bad.
respectful, open discussion, hard grader; can't see what he wants from papers!
Salsbury is one of the greatest English professors at this school! He cares about suject material and works hard to let students know what to expect with papers. His enthusiasm helps make the material interesting. I highly recommend his classes.
I liked him as a professor because he was very clear in what he wanted. If you just do what he describes in class, you should be fine.
Good teacher a lot of fun
He's an ****. I got stuck in his class because everything else was filled up. All the horror stories I heard about him were true. He's no help and I don't think he really gives a damn about his students. Don't take him. If you get stuck with him, drop the class and add microbiology....anything's better than this guy.
Salsbury is a good teacher. He is really into the material and makes a lot of jokes throughout the class. He gives credit for class participation and quizzes that test what you read for that day (very easy). there are only 2 tests, a final and midterm and they are not worth that much. the research paper is a pain in the butt!
This guy is crazy. He is very excited about his job, but he is not a good professor. He doesn't tell the truth about what is on his tests. He told us that biographical information would not be on the test, but it was. His tests are way too long and very hard. He gets mad if you don't make comments in class. He gives pop quizes almost every day
He is CRAZY. i didnt learn a thing.
this guys is a horrible teacher. he loves his job, but just can't relay the information. his test are so hard! half the test is history based on specific dates and the other half is quotes and characters. and the research paper?! extremely difficult to pass!
This dude is psycho and is OCD! If you take Salsbury you better be ready to here Okay and Alright like 100 times a class! His class is easy but if you don't read and don't write well he will grade you hard...If Salsbury is on your schedule...CHANGE IT AND GET OUT! ! ! !
This teacher is awful
He's absolutely nuts! If you take his class be prepared to fail your paper, even if you wrote an awesome essay that would receive an "A" in ANY other class. Funny how you can come into his class with "A"s in every other english class you've ever taken and come out of it with a "C". Funny huh?
Salsbury's class is challenging, but you get out of it what you put in. Show some interest in the subject, be prepared to discuss the readings, and don't be afraid to ask questions about assignments if you need something clarified.
Salsbury's class is reading intensive, but hello people-- this is college! His class is interesting, plus he's funny and kind of cute.
This class is pretty hard, especially if you're not into English. Do the reading and act interested. The research paper is hard, but he does explain what he wants.
This guy is strange; he grades the papers hard and gives reading quizzes all the time. I learned a lot about the material though.
Drop now while you can-- for the love of God. The research paper is a Beeottch!
Be afraid-- be very afraid. He grades the papers way too tough! Plus, there's too much reading, and the quizzes ridiculously hard.
Salsbury is into the material, and cares about the students that do the work. Do what he says on the research paper-- he grades it hard! He is helpful if you have questions though.
He can't even speak english so he can't teach it. Grades hard. Dont take him
Flexible with abscenses. Dedicated to work. However, he has a bad attitude. Bad mouths students for no reason. Terrible attitude. Grades papers hard. Makes you read a lot. The bads outweigh the good and I recommend to not take him.
This class is ridiculous. He repeast himself 100 times a class and does not care wheter or not you fail. His grading is crazy and he gives pop quizzes every day. Also, he gives a work load as if this is your only class. If that is not bad enough he is rude and curses at students...he needs to be fired immediately
Had no problems with Salsbury. Demanding guy, but can also be very funny.
Save yourself some time and don't take him!!!
English is not my subject..if your the same way don't take this class....i spent 2 days in there and he scared me so much i had to drop...alot of assignments, class discussions, tough exams. However i hear if your an english major its challanging and people have liked it.

OMG. i dont know where to start with this guy. he is HORRIBLE. he is such a jerk. he asks you to give your opinion then he jokes the heck out of you. He is also really unclear on what he wants. He will be giving a um, "LECTURE" and then he goes off and rambles about grabbing papers on the way out or whatever. I cannot stand this guy. OMG.

he is just plain stupid. down with salsbury and up with a teacher who doesn't repeat himself every 1.2 nano second and has half a friggin brain
At the beggining of the year, I hated this class..but now it is one of my favorites. He is so crazy, you don't know what to expect! One day he'll be pissed and cussing like a sailor, the next he'll be understanding and hilarious. He does grade papers hard, and gives random pop quizzes on the assigned reading.Just dont piss him off! It was a fun class!
Mr. Salsbury is ridiculously confusing. If you plan on passing mid-terms and papers, sign up with a teacher else where. Rude grading procedures and ridiculous.
Mr. Salsbury knows his material and really cares about his students. Although the class was hard, I learned a lot about writing. Plus, he's really funny and cute too! :)
This man is the biggest jerk you will ever meet! He lies about what will be on the exams, and then he pulls grades out of his rear end! He cusses throughout class and repeats everything 500 times. I do not recommend this man for anything except a psychiatric evaluation! If you take his class you will most likely need anger management therapy!
Salsbury grades papers hard but is an enthusiastic teacher, though sometimes he can be cranky. Read the material and act interested and you'll be fine.
He is the absolute worst teacher on campus he will repeat the things we don't need to know, tells us that he will not put things on the final and then he does. He will give you an F= 55 on your research paper without even reading it. And then say he did. He gives quizzes on the reading everyday and the readings are 8 font and about 40 pages each da
He rocks! Don't take him if you won't do the work. Read and do the reading and you'll be fine.
Worst English teacher to take.
This guy is an awful teacher, he make basic English way too hard.
everybody gives mr. salsbury suck a bad rap but he really is a good teacher. he really is pretty difficult but it's only because he wants his students to be good writers. he brings really great articles into class and sometimes we spend all class analyzing articles while mr. salsbury cracks jokes. its usually a really fun class.
I learned a lot about writing papers on the college level. Salsbury knows what he's talking about.
This prof is intelligent and is generous. You do have to listen carefully, but the class is a lot of fun if you pay attention and actually do the reading. He will allow students to bring up any crazy idea of what a story may be about and is open to everyone's viewpoint. It's a very enjoyable class.
Dr. Salsbury is not a good professor...he is not very understanding at all!!! He thinks he knows everything and is obsessed w/ english. I went into his class enjoying english but he made me hate it...would def not recommend taking him!!
"Alright gang *snap snap* lets sit through another hour of torture while i tell u how immature u r if u take offense when i cuss...oh and i will give u terrible grades on ur paper cuz i think ur stupid!!! Oh and let me yell at u for no reason! how much fun gang! COFFEE!!!" Definitely the English teacher from heck.
Mr. Salsbury knows his stuff and I learned a lot. Not sure why he gets a bad rap. Plus, he's funny too.
Makes English much too hard. Grades papers extremely strict, and rambles in class for no reason. Do not take him if you dont have too!
Although he often gets a little off topic, I have found his methods somewhat helpful. YOU MUST DO THE READING though if you plan on passing! He gives quizzes often but as long as you pay attention in class and speak up he won't grade you too harshly. The Research Paper is kind of a butt though! Good luck on that one!
Salsbury will hate you if you're in a lower level english course, but once you get into the 200 level courses he's quite entertaining. But he totally hates on Kenny Chesney and NC State like everyday! But, overall I like him!
Good teacher, gets off topic, but tells you exactly what he wants from you... some quizzes but from your reading, lets you choose your paper topics... pay attention and read the sections before the quiz (told what to read for quiz)... Repetitive, but overall a good teacher
Salsbury is a good professor with a great sense of humor. He tells you exactly what he wants/expects from you. I always enjoyed the discussion style class and My. Salsbury was always really willing to help if you ever needed anything, whether it was related to the class, assignments, or papers.
In my opinion, he is the best English teacher that i had ever had. First English teacher at Campbell University that i found exciting. Before him, I had two English professors that put me to sleep. He's the best ever.
He is a good teach when it comes to learning the material. He always gets of topic though. If you do not pay attention he will get extremely angry and then becomes a bit scary. It is a easy class if you let him know you like him.
He is kind of crazy! He goes on random outburst for no apperant reason. He gives three grades; midterm, final, and a paper. The test are extremely hard and there isn't a good way to study for them
Dr. Salsbury is a great professor. I became a better writer this semester and I now look at English differently. Salsbury reveals the historical significance of the material and then brings it to life. If you are looking for a professor that will keep you focused on the material whether you like it or not Salsbury is your choice.
Salsbury is a HORRIBLE teacher! He repeats himself CONSTANTLY(um, ok guys, good discussion)No one talks in the class and he insults us. He is constantly giving pop quizzes. They are short and hurt your grade. I did the reading and failed half the quizzes. The study guides are USELESS, and he is always contradicting himself. DON'T TAKE HIM!
His class= lame as his sense of humor. He grades papers way too hard!!
Salsbury runs a good class and he teaches the material well. Don't get on your computer. Do read, participate, and write everything.
I had an A in the class, wrote the term paper, did well on the tests and he failed me without warning because i missed too many days. I had doctor's notes and sent him emails before missing the class and he clearly had no sympathy. Do not take him if you can help it. Thanks to him I had to leave campbell. Thanks for ruining my future!
Everyone knows that when you take a literature class you are required to do a lot of reading. It keeps you in your seat everyday and sometimes you are required to read things that you don't particularly care about. With that being said salsbury made literature as enjoyable as it could possibly be and he did a great job teaching it. Great Class
If you're looking for a class that you can go to, slack off, leave early, and still make an A, this is not the class for you. But if you go in and actually try, you might get something out of it. Mr. Salsbury is very "human" and he actually cares about his students. He is a very good person to get to know.
Extremely boring. I had him for the hour and twenty minute class on tuesdays and thursdays. The possibility of getting an A in this class is extremely low. I had never received less than an A on a paper ever and he gave me a D on the first one. There are plenty of other, better Freshman comp. teachers.
Was not helpful at all. He gave way too much work that was useless and did not help with anything. Do not take if you have the choice. He doesn't like lower level english at all and he rambles.
Great Professor! It takes time to adjust to his way of teaching (all over the place) but is a really great guy, extremely helpful. You MUST read, gives pop quizzes, cellphone ring/use= instant quiz for the entire class, final/midterm are intense, but if you study hard you will get an A. Only one paper to write. I will take his class again!
AHHHHH! Why did I take him?! He is very uptight, so the entire class period is uncomfortable and you are on-edge. Whatever you do DO NOT let him see/hear your cell phone... He will go nuts!
OMG!!! I love Mr. Salsbury! He is an awesome professor who really cares about his students. He is very passionate about education and is very helpful when his students in need. At the same time he will challenge you as a student.
Mr. Salsbury was my favorite professor at Campbell. He knows what he's talking about, and I laughed until I cried every day in class. Do your reading assignments, study, work hard on your paper, and you'll do well. You're not in middle school any more. "Buck up, buttercup." He's great and easy on the eyes.
Thinks he is the man. Give the students a break... By the book, but not in a good way
He presents the material clearly, though sometimes he rambles. Overall, a pretty good class.
You literally have to read the work he assigns you down to the fine print if you want to even come close to a worthy grade
Takes out personal feelings out on grades. He isn't clear about grading on papers and then grades them like you are in a 400 level class. His vagueness in his grading procedures allows him to be shady. Though you may make comments daily and participate in class discussions your "Participation" grade is based solely on you quiz grade?... DO NOT TAKE
Mr. Salsbury is a great guy and a good teacher. He tends to get off subject at times but his comments are funny. Several quizzes and 2 or 3 tests and a paper. you need to do the daily reading and pay attention in class to do well on the quizzes. Take good notes to do well on the tests because they are somewhat difficult and lengthy.
He's a good guy. He has a lack of self control when it comes to being funny, and it can get pretty offensive sometimes...most times. Make sure you submit everything online AND in person. And for your survival, DO NOT LET YOUR PHONE GO OFF IN CLASS!
He was always talking about his personal life in class. Sometimes he got into childish fits. I didn't feel like I learned much despite getting an A in the class. His class was so boring!
Do the assigned reading every day (short detailed pop quizzes every week). I would just use spark notes half of the time instead of read but I got crap grades on the quizzes. For the midterm and final he gives a lengthy study guide (study it well) so I got 100s on both tests and the paper which balanced out my crappy quiz scores. Cell phones off!
Professor Salsbury is a teacher who realizes we are studying at the collegiate level and makes you work accordingly. No assignment is unfair, but come in to class having read your assignment and be ready for a quiz on the material everyday. He's a nice guy who is ready and willing to help. Overall, I really enjoy his class and would recommend him.
Hes a nice guy who cares but DONT have your phone in class. He will throw a fit and give a quiz. He is very soft spoken which makes it hard to hear him and to stay awake but is an easy grader for the most part.
He's a really great teacher
I don't feel like I learned much as far as English goes. Wrote many papers which had a lot of positive feedback and a grade that didn't really correlate with the feedback
Make sure not to use your phone in class! Otherwise he'll blow up on you and class and spend the rest of the period saying stuff, that I cannot repeat here, regardingyour existence and your parents. Other than that he's alright. Wouldn't take again, but don't regret it either.
Great teacher. Will work with you and cares about his students. Occasional pop quizzes on the readings and overall 5 papers but no tests just small quizzes.
He's a very eccentric guy and you really need to pay attention to his lectures on the readings because that's what you'll be tested on. It's not a tough class if you show up and share notes with people. 40% of the grade is pop quizzes, homework and group work and only 30% is the midterm and final. 1 research paper and 10% participation.
Very kind guy that really cares about his students. As long as you do your work you should be fine. There were 5 papers which were fairly easy and there is quite a bit of homework but nothing too extreme. The class is boring and pretty redundant but could be much worse. He appreciates participation in class. Overall pretty good professor!
The amount of HW given in this class is wild. Reading everynight, 4 pages worth of critical thinking questions at least once a week, always a paper assigned and there could always be a pop quiz the next day. And this was a 3x/wk class. Kind of unreasonable. Salsbury, as a person, is super nice and funny, but I would not take a class with him again.
Truthfully, he is a really great professor. He does give free-response HWK (4 pages usually, double-spaced; typically 8 questions) based on stories we will have read. He's quirky, but IF YOU PUT THE EFFORT IN, HE SEES THAT AND WILL BE GOOD TO YOU. Participate in class-discussions (which is 85% of class)
Grades according to what he believes is the correct thing to say or way to say it. Lectures are extremely dull, but you must participate and show up or the low participation grade will drop your average. Asks questions on quizzes on minute details that are easy to miss. Spare your GPA
I will start off by saying that he is nice and he tries to be funny. Class is super boring to the point of falling asleep and homework is ridiculous. He will post an assignment last minute and expect it to be turned in the next morning. Grading is ok. He will take off 10 points for grammar/misspelling, so make sure you proof read everything!
No feedback or guide for papers but is extremely harsh in grading
He is the worst English teacher anyone can ask for. He doesn't believe in second chances but talks about how he believes in the bible. I do not recommend him AT ALL. He also gives way to much homework at the last minute.
Though I'm lazy, did not do the work, and am at CU as a "student" athlete, it's not my fault that I failed to do the work and put forth effort in the course. Rather than putting on the "big boy" pants, and taking ownership of my grade, it's clearly his fault that I failed.
Prof. Salsbury is a great guy out of the classroom. He has a sense of humor not a lot of people understand but as long as you interact with him you will be fine. He gets off on tangents in the middle of class and you don't know what is coming up unless you look on your syllabus.
Mr. Salsbury is a very kind man and is willing to work with you on fixing assignments. I struggled with a paper and he helped guide me in writing it with clear points of critique. He provides lots of good and inspirational feedback, where some other teachers may be harsh. I loved Mr. Salsbury, and would definitely recommend him to others.
I highly recommend taking this class. Each class youll be expected to read at least one article from the book. The articles are really interesting and relevant. During the semester, youll be expected to write five papers. All of them will help you become a better writer. Mr. Salsberry is a great professor and I highly recommend him.
Mr. Salsbury is such a wonderful English teacher. This is coming from somebody who absolutely despises English. He is pretty down to earth and is easy to get along with. If homework isn't your thing, then you shouldn't be that worried. The first month of class you will have a bit of homework, but after midterms it usually isn't much.
Salsbury is an interesting professor. He has an odd sense of humor that very few get. He gets off of topic very easy. He assigns reading for every class, then goes over it in class (an unnecessary amount of homework). Will say "I understand if you haven't read the material". He really cares for his students and wants the best for them.
