The teacher is fairly new and can come across as a push over, but take the time to listen to him. He is a good teacher, with great knowledge about the subject. He does NOT make things difficult, but rather tries to cater to the way you learn. I would very much recommend him. Do the readings & study. There is NO reason not to get an A in his class

Easy A with this professor! Go to class and get as many i-clicker points as possible, they help! He gives out study guides and they're helpful. Do the online assignment and study those questions because he does put them on the exams! Very nice guy and has no problem explaining things until you understand.

This professor is very knowledgeable. He's very approachable if you have any questions or concerns. Although he does not require attendance, it is crucial that you do since he bases his exams on his notes. Also, he gives you extra credit for all the iClicker questions you answer correctly. Dr. Silva is an EXCELLENT teacher. He uses Power Point, the book was not needed. He is very clear, and to the point and he has a sense of humor. He is willing to help and encourages students to come to his office hours. He is quick at grading exams and posts grades within 2 hours of taking the exam. He's AWESOME!!

Good teacher, long lectures. Have to be in class though he goes by participation points and these iclicker questions that are extra credit. Study for the exams, everything is off his lectures, no book so don't buy one.

Dr. Silva's class is very easy. Biology was my weakest point, yet his clarification is great and he helps engage students. His class is mandatory for participation points and you also receive extra credit points. The "fill in the blanks" lecture style and weekly study guides really help prepare you. I thought he was pretty clear, tests are multiple choice, based primarily on lecture and notes. He has a dry sense of humor. He was available to answer questions . What a great professor! Coming into biology I was really nervous, but his clear lectures are enough that you won't even need the textbook! He gives out study guides which help a lot as you are doing about five chapters an exam. Attendance mandatory as iclicker questions are given every day.

Amazing teacher!! This was my first biology class ever and yes, you MUST study for this class! I enjoyed this class so much I even switched my major over to biology..haha not even kidding. One of the nicest and clearest professors Ive ever had. I took it over summer, and although its a lot of information, he will take the time to explain to you if you dont understand. He is a very smart guy. You have to study, but dont need the textbook. Do your part and you will do GREAT! He also works with you a lot if you have other things.

This class was extremely easy. The purpose of the class is to help new college students with classes and school resources. At times, the class was extremely boring and repetitive and it seemed like "common knowledge" such as how to take proper notes. The textbook was unnecessary and after the 3rd week I never read it again.

Best Bio Professor!! I took Bio in CSN but withdrew because the professors there don't know how to teach, I learned a lot!! I wouldn't mind taking him again, I would pay to hear his lectures again. I only studied a day before the test and still passed the exams with a C average. If you study more than one day you would pass with an A.

My grade was based off me not doing the most, which I should've. It's easy to get an A in this class (this will be a regret for me) but I was in a transitional period in my life, it was summer too. It's easy to get an A in here I believe ONLY if you put in time. He really does make you work for it. You really need to study but it will be Possible.

Took this class online during covid. With the difficulties of moving everything online, he did a fantastic job at making material very clear. He provides all the necessary materials needed to pass, and he responds to questions clearly and in a good amount of time. Definitely recommend taking his class!

I took this class for my last elective during the summer. He had clear expectations and made lecture videos for this online course so easy to follow. I loved how they were broken down into smaller sections so my ADHD self was able to make small goals of completing a video, and was a breeze to get through lectures. Is also super understanding. 10/10

I would say professor Silvia is very easy going and kind. The course load is very light we do everything together in groups so if your ever stuck you have team mates to help you! Try to come to class every time, its only once a week and attendance matters.
