Worst teacher ever!!!
awesome guy.read book and get an A..very leninet on grades and not boring at all
AWESEOME...easy grader
One of the absolute worst professors I had at this school. He made my semester miserable.
Slavin was the worst teacher i ever had, he needs to retire already!
His grading is based on very hard take home exams. Students can virtually ace all his exams if they can find knowledgable people to give them the answers. Students who complete the exams on their own merits are at an extreme competive disadvantage.
Only got a good grade because I taught myself, he only confused me and the rest of the class. Horrible teacher
It's too bad He's the only one who teaches 125!
Impossible, ruined my GPA. When trying to do his take home exams even when working together with others in the class or even CPA's themselves, hard to get 100 and you're given a week to do it...now imagine nobody helping you and 55 minutes to do it!

Bad Bad Bad.... This guy could bearly help himself, let alone you. Get out while you can.
dont know what you people are talking about....took him over winter for acct102 ..soooooo easy...1st test a piece of cake and final easy to get a B on...took about 4 quizzes and was able to drop 2...soo easy, gr8 teacher...take him over winter
nice guy-HORRIBLE teacher.

best accounting class i ever took you guys shouldve taken him in the summer it makes sense if you do the work and READ the chapters
He is smart, sexy and simply irresistable!!!
Whoever stated that Professor Slavin was sexy, is a suck up and needs to get a life. His class is difficult but managable. You just have to help yourself. And you won't receive extra credit for saying he's sexy.. Give it Up
why doesnt this rich old loser just retire?? he is a horrible professor and he favors the jews in the class. get over yourself
his only goal is to cover the syllabus. thats it. no detail in class, just examples that are too easy to learn from. but he is a nice guy in general, take him at nite if you want a bit of a break
His expertise makes the class a pleasurable experience. The material can be difficult, but that's why there are office hours. In reference to Jewish favoritism, remember where you've left your sense of humor and then revisit this website.
I don't need any extra credit!I actually meant what I said!
He is the only professor for 125 and every accounting major MUST take him. For that reason and that reason alone is the only reason that people even take this guy!
first of all, all u guys who have him now are lucky as hell. He has changed the whole class because he heard people saying that his class is the worst. He never let u have a piece of paper for the tests and he now also leans more towards the take home.

From all the bad things I've heard, I expected the class and the professor to suck. That has not been the case. Good professor, and the class is not that hard.
Good prof. At 1st I was scared, but rumors can be deceiving. He trys to make class fund, and is always opened for any questions. He allows a sheet of notes during the in class examination. You will learn if you're willing to.
Should do a 60-40 split counting the take home test more. Give some input people.
He's a nice guy, but he can't teach! Subject matter is hard enough, and he doesn't make it easier with his hard to follow outline and constant mistakes in making calculations suring lectures

Expected a horrible teacher. Unfortunately he proved me wrong. Keep up the good job. One thing though. You go to improve your dancing skills when on the dancefloor at the Mirage. hahaha.
dont listen to all these babies who want everything spoon fed to them. SLAVIN IS AN AWESOME TEACHER who knows how to teach or he wouldnt be at Hofstra for the past 20 something years. Hope to see the good dr. at trop one of these days, later.
I had to teach myself the whole course. Slavin needs to stop focusing on "Rate My Professor" in class and instead needs to rewrite his confusing lectures. His notes and lectures are over-simplified compared to his extremely hard exams.
He is a very fair teacher. He needs to make his in class examples more like his test questions. Dr. Slavin is too smart for his own good he expects students to have the same understanding of the material in 15 weeks as he has.Push him to go over the exams
Yeah everyone loves him now because he made the class so damn easy with bringing in sheets to the class. If you had him when i had him, all of you would be singing a much different tune..
Extremely hard to understand... please remember that not all of us have doctoral degrees... some of us would like to get through 125 to graduate first...!!! SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!
They really should let someone else, besides him start teaching 125
nice guy
Maybe he should concentrate on teaching the class and getting student input instead of listening to that ugly girl nicole blurt out all the answers... way to kiss ass...
probably the funniest teacher on campus-really cares and gives you many chances to succeed
No Comments
i think this teacher is pretty fair, specially when it comes to helping the students. he will try to help you pass this class.tests are hard though, but we had take homes to make up for the in class.
Very intelligent guy but not a real good teacher. He just goes over the homework and never actually explains the concepts. You have to learn all the material on your own but that still doesn't really prepare you for the exams. Not very encouraging either
Awesome guy, great sense of humor and very fair in grading...One of the best Acct. professors I had
skims through chapters yet exams cover lots more material.
Had him in the summer and he was great. I am tying to get into his advanced class in the fall but it is already closed out and its very unfair.
He's a good professor and knows his stuff down cold, but he misses alot of Material which he covers on the Exams, Exams are very hard, but he's good, this is a hard class to take in the summer, but he taught it well

Love the way he informs you about the topic in an entertaining manner. If you like accounting, you will never be bored.
Best Accounting Teacher at Hofstra! Made Acounting so easy. I did decent in ACCT 101 but once I took his class it all made sense and I got an A! I suggest you take him!!
His tests are damn near impossible. He gives us a take home along with the in class. Find someone smart to take the take home or else YOU'RE SCREWED!
The guy really cares. Gives you a difficult takehome midterm but the class does real well,91 average. If you put the effort, he will reward you.
Prof. Slavin enjoys his subject and it shows in the enthusiasm he brings to lectures. The subject is hard and the material is extensive, but he is always available to answer questions. Tests are very hard; CPA-type exam questions should be covered in class.
This man is so funny its scary, but the sad thing is when you see your grade on the inclass part of the exan usally a 47 or higher is ok, and yes out of 100, but he does give a take home part so you better have a smart friend in the class or get a second job so you can pay someone to do the test 4 u
Very hard class; reason why I changed major. He goes fast and it's easy to get lost. If you study a lot, you'll do ok. Don't expect an easy A. However, he is entertaining and the class goes by quick.
He teaches very hard but dont worry just do better then other people to get a good grade. If your like me and you averaged a 25 yes 25 dont worry and dont drop, just talk to him and will be good enough for at least a C probably a C+. Just show very minimal effort and you will be fine.
Very hard class. Reads this site. Is probably reading this. Good Grader, when it comes down to it. He will go the extra leg to help a student out. Loves the girls in class. But his work is extremely hard. Nice guy though
Real nice guy. Very smart. Has a hard time getting his students to understand. Good thing is, he knows this, so he's very helpful if you don't get it and getting a 50 on a test doesn't matter b/c you can re-do them, get a 70 and still get an A in his class.

Pro.Slavin happens to be a great professor. You have to put in the effort for this class but he is willing and able to help you all the way through, but you have to be an adult and approach your issues.Accounting was never my subject, and I got a lot out of this class. His personality made the class interesting, and go by quickly.I highly recommend
he's a great professor
took him few years back... Material was tough and the inclass exams were near impossible BUT he allowed you to take it home and redo it as well as the take home section. If you know someone whos a straight A, get the answers from him.. And during the final when you leave he asks you to write down on paper what you expect to get and usually thats what you get if its within reason...
tough but very fair, gives take homes and advance peeks of questions on the exams
He is an okay professor. The guy is very smart and knows so much just has a very hard time conveying it so we understand. The take homes are very helpful but not easy and take alot of work and it will be a group effort. He is a really nice guy and realizes the class is hard i have no doubt he helps us in the end, and you cant avoid him so good luck
nice guy that makes class entertaining by making lots of jokes. his class is hard but its accounting so what do u expect. just do the work & put some effort into the class and youll be fine. he is pretty clear & puts the exact questions from the study questions on the test to help u out. i liked him & am taking him again for 123.
I thought I was going to get a C for the course and actually got a B. This guy actually loves students and loves to teach.
great great professor. he really cares about his students. explains very clearly, definately take him
its accounting, clearly a tough subject. he teaches it very well, as long as you attend class, he will help you out. i hate acct, i got a B+...gotta love random curves. nice guy
Went to the class for 3 classes and dropped it. He seems to have a favouritism towards students who retake him. Makes accounting look so tough.Gives a lot of work.
he seems more interested in "hanging with the students" and trying to be one than acting like a teacher who should try and earn some respect. No wonder this guy left the real world to teach.
Easy going professor! Simplified many of the topics with funny anecdotes. Awesome and fair grader. Take the class, he goes the extra mile to help his students out.
This man actually loves to teach and cares about students.
Hardest class in the world. You HAVE to take it with Slavin because he's the only one that teaches it. He's hard to understand and the tests are impossible. But if you put in a decent effort, you'll get a decent grade even if you did poorly on all the tests. He asks what you think you "deserve" after the final and if it's within reason u'll get it
I had him for Acct 123, 124, and 125. The exams are tough, but he tries his hardest to make it easy. He also tries really hard to get people to pass, but you have to meet him half way by putting some effort in. Attendance is really necessary, and friends are definitely an asset in studying for his exams; the Slideshows online also help.
I failed the first test because of personal problems. I went to see him and he got me through where I ended up with a B. Just show him you care and he will help you. He is a very sensitive professor.
Dr Slavin had an interesting way to go about teaching. His sense of humor and crazy antics made the class enjoyable. He really taught you in depth, gave you the questions for the test, and prepared you well for the departmental final. Although he depended alot on his TA, he cared about his students success. Did alot of group work and demos.
just because you will be stuck with him for acct 125, wanna give everyone a heads up. he is not a bad person, however his teaching skills need help. he makes u waste printing funds for his lecture notes (10 pages) and only teaches you 2 pages. he will talk more than write so thus this is a self teach course, andthus listen carefully!(cont next rati
Great Prof
Hard course but he is extremely fair and will help you.
Best in the school
Teaches outside the textbook, you have to attend every class. His exams make the material seem harder than it should be, especially the weekend quizs before any test. You'll most probably need help with this course. Papers from previous students may help too. Good luck
I hope the professor reads this, you're a nice person, but please stop talking while students are taking your exam! your exams are too long to begin with so please please loose the chatting because no one is listening and keep it quiet.Thank you
This is a very difficult class; you have to put a lot of effort towards it. Expect test questions that are not from the text book or covered in class. However, Dr. Slavin is willing to help you out as much as possible and he's very entertaining in class. He curves, but don't rely on it. Also, expect to pay for the study guide, it's worth it.
He's decent.
Great guy,very informative.
Whats not to like about professor slavin. Hes the chair of accounting! he makes a great lecture outline. hes funny. hes a cpa. he actually teachs something. and he has all of his hair! a+
GREAT MAN! and his youngest son is quite a looker as well.
great guy and i think he's hilarious.. its a tough course no matter what so you gotta study a lot.. he will help you out if you show effort
i have no idea how anyone can have ANYTHING good to say about this guy AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!
AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.
ACC is a hard topic weather you like it or not and Dr.Slavin has to teach it. If your an ACC major and ur taking 124 required course then ull understand later why he teaches the way he does. What other teacher do you know who can teach accounting and throw funny jokes..not that easy. Take home exams are cake, anyone who badmouths him just didnt go
Took a 10 day course in January and he was great.
I took a 10 day winter session with him and he was horrible!!!!
One of the easiest courses I ever took. Lots of takehome exams.
Had a problem with the first exam and went to see him for extra help. He is very supportive-real nice person.
just a horrible professor. Your stuck with him for 125,good luck. He just isnt a teacher. He is very knowledgeable but he just doesnt know how to teach at all. he is arrogant, and snoby and just not a nice guy. everything the guy says is confusing. he treats you like a child. his statement at the end of class "try and struggle through the homework"
He is the worst. He said the most racially ignorant thing to me. If you flirt and suck up to him then he might be nice to you.. I personally refuse to and I know he didn't like me considering I got the highest grade twice and yet he gave me a C+. I learnt more about his children than I did acct & this was over the summer. He doesn't deserve chair.
Great teacher,loved him.
So annoying, treats the class like kindergartners. Uses stupid analogies for everything. It takes forever to get through a chapter and then all of the sudden you are back in an old chapter one you've moved on to a new one. His test are poorly written. His TA and he are often not on the same page and she sends u wrong assignments and u cant understa
Great teacher. Changed my major to accounting because of his class.
Slavin is a tough prof. Lots of HW and the tests are pretty challenging, class average was around a 65... but he curves and if you do all the HW and go to every class you'll do fine. he's a funny chap, I liked him.
Reminds me of my dad.Tries to scare us into doing well.
Professor Slavin is a great guy outside of the classroom, but his course felt like torture. The classes are fast-paced and there are few tutorials or examples given. He?ll give one overall example for the chapter, so you need to study a great deal alone. Only recommended if you are very diligent about your study schedule.
This guy is so condescending. How he's been teaching for so many years and offered little to students is incomprehensible. I want a job where I can offer little and be employed forever. At Hofstra, it's connections, that's it. No one skilled or useful need apply for the Acctg program. You are on your own.
not the worst professor
Great Professor, but demanding. Already passed one part of the CPA exam because of his course.
Got a B+. He gives you a lot of points where the class average is in the 90s. Very funny and knowledgeable. Look forward to taking him for advanced accounting.
Avoid at all costs. You will have to spend hours at home teaching yourself the material because he barely covers anything useful in class. Doesn't tell class about assignments then at the end of the semester gives you 2 days notice saying that he had mentioned them often.
probably the worst accounting professor i have ever had, he is a nice man, and very funny, but he does not teach the material on his exams, you are basically forced to learn everything on your own, so if you take him, get used to just constantly reading the textbook and using that to study, sounds easy, but this is advanced accounting, so its not.
Received my highest grade in accounting, great professor.
His exams are very tough, and you do have to study a lot on your own (as other raters have written). He does curve, but even with that, you need to put in A LOT of effort.
I don't want to completely bad mouth him, because he is a funny guy and there is a heart in there somewhere BUT... he's chairman of the accounting department, so he's on a serious power trip. He gives a lot of work and his tests are long and difficult.
Great teacher, favors the weaker students and possible to get an A if you work. Changed my major to Accounting because of his class.
Avoid.
Very dedicated teacher and look forward to taking him in the fall.
You have to teach yourself the material in this class. This guy just skims over the material without fully covering everything. Basically a teach yourself class. If this is your last option, be prepared. After all, he's the chairperson of the department
Great teacher, lots of extra credit, drops the lowest 2 quiz grades. Just read your notes and the easy review problems that he covers in class and you will be fine.
Great teacher. Just read your notes and the review problems. A very funny man.
horrible. You need to teach yourself. What he teaches just doesn't add up to his tests. Tests are extremely hard unless you study the material yourself every night and learn it on your own. Not organized at all. Take acct 102 with anyone else.
Very easy course. I have not even read the textbook and running a B+ by just reading my notes.
Great Prof-running an A just by the class notes.
At first I thought he was a complete idiot but then I realized that's just his sense of humor. Ended up really enjoying the class and doing pretty well. Would recommend if you want to learn but you must do the work
Tests are all from the book, however what is reviewed in class will not help you alone. You must do a lot of homework and online quizzes.
Great instructor. Got an A in a 4 week summer course. Lots of credit for homework which he lets you redo for a higher grade. Will probably change my major to accounting.
Never, ever, ever take Acct 123 with Slavin during January session. Its horrendous! He's not that bad of a teacher but isn't very good. You can certainly pass and he does answer questions but will get off on tangents. All I'm saying is, never take him for a January class, you'll be sorry you did
Wonderful man, very caring.
Very very funny man. Loves to teach.
I thought he was hard until I took Tax. Slavin actually goes over computations a lot more than some of the taxation professors. Enjoyed class with a comical professor and really broadened my perspective in accounting. Slavin's hard but you'll see how easy he was when you take Katz or finklestein. Generous guy, Take him.
Slavin loves teaching and he loves to make terrible jokes. I enjoyed the class and would recommend him to anyone who needs to take Accounting. Tests are basically the review sheets he hands out with different numbers. Pretty easy class for the most part
Would not reccomend stuck with him cus polimeni was sick. Gives alot of useless hw. Optional review packet is most of first 2 test come from and another website final different. Wnt give all abswers to review packet. Lazy and uselss
Has no idea what he is doing. His TAs have no idea whats going on. How are we suppose to know what to do then?
Here's the deal on Slavin... He is a department head, so he's got some power, but he also seems to have no free time because the TA does everything in his class. His style is abrasive. His delivery is unclear. Avoid him like the plague.
He has many jokes. Lovely professor .
Absolutely the worst professor I ever had. I sat in his lectures circa 2000 and I wanted to change my major because of him. He seems to direct his lecture to few, selected students and ignores the rest. He is computer illiterate and preferred hand written homework.
This professor is terrible at explaining things, most of the work you do is by yourself. He often assigns HW on chapters he didn't teach yet. Very textbook heavy, read that to know what he's talking about. His jokes are terrible.
Dr. Slavin is one of the funniest professors I've had, but also one of the toughest.
Very devoted teacher, can tell from his notes. Corny jokes make the tough course interesting and enjoyable. Various analogies make the hard material easy to understand. Always ready to explain one single question in a million ways until you get it. You will realize how valuable his class is when you prepare for your CPA exam.
Nice, Fair & understanding
The knowledge I learned from his class is very useful in the following three semester. He is a very responsible and helpful professor for every student.
Engaging classes, he knows what he says and he knows it well. Ready to help if needed. He keeps the attention at a high level even though the topic may be boring. High grader if you participate in class.
Thinks he's the man (cool - accounting professor "man"), tells moronic "jokes" that the students nervously "laugh" at to stroke his ego, sarcastic, ego-driven, etc. etc. etc. Enough said. I figured it out on my own and did well. Didn't need him or his attitude - pathetic.
Professor Nivals wants everyone to work for Nivals corporation thats why he goes so hard on his students. Keep those clickers you will need them for when you are working at Nivals Corp.
Absolute worst professor I've had at Hofstra. He's condescending, sarcastic, does not give any help when asked questions, is overall a very poor professor. When students asked questions he would give them sarcastic responses along the lines of "why don't you know that." I wouldn't refer him to my worst enemy.
i hated this class so much. he made me want to change my major from accounting because he made me hate the field so much. his tests are incredibly hard. my class avg for our final was about a 60, he's so hard
Accounting is a drab and boring subject so I really appreciate his approach by lightening things up even if his jokes are corny. He's helpful if you reach out & is overall a really nice guy.
Accounting is not my forte' and I had to take this class being in the business school but from everything I have read here Dr. Slavin is the MAN. Group projects are like a 90 avg and if you screw up he gives 2nd chances plus extra credit. For a boring subject he's funny & I could think of a million worst teachers to spend the time listening to.
He's the best!
this guy made me wanna change my major from accounting, the test was hard. Don't take him.
One of the best professors at Hofstra (if not the best)! You actually use what you learn in his class. He is very supportive, clear, energetic, fair and amusing. I stayed with him for ACCT 101 and 102.
Good teacher, sometimes boring, make sure you go to class and pay attention and you should be fine. Easy grader
Great Professor! Very good at explaining the material. If someone does not understand something, he would be more than happy to stop and explain it again using multiple examples for better understanding. I would definitely recommend taking his class to everybody.
Had Dr. Slavin in the 1980s. The absolute worst college professor that I ever had. I stopped going to class after the 4th session due to his nasty arrogance. I memorized past tests, which made up 2/3 of exams and got thru course. He used these past years tests word for word, which was irresponsible of him! AVOID
Always comes in prepared, with helpful handouts. Energetic and passionate about teaching. Funny too, constantly keeping the class engaged, caring for the students. Recommend
Wants you to learn so he keeps things interesting. You need to read before class and study for the tests. Smart prof. w/ great sense of humor.
Dr. Slavin keeps you attentive in his lectures by making fun references to the topic. Homeworks are done online based off of lectures. The class can become a bit confusing however. All in all, Dr. Slavin is a nice professor teaching an okay class. If you pay attention you will do well and enjoy his class, if not... you'll find yourself confused.
Great! Wonderful! Teaches all the concepts very well and with great analogies
Very competent and compassionate prof. always available. n
He is a great professor, and a very nice person. Teaches very well. All of a sudden accounting is not boring in his class. I am very glad I am in his class.
Dr. Slavin is an excellent professor. Having taking accounting in undergraduate studies and not doing very well, Dr. Slavin's classes have changed my perception of accounting, and drastically improved my performance. With his use of real-life examples it helps to bring everything together. His teaching method adds more value than grades alone.
1. Very unclear grading policy. 2. Send several mails within one days. 3. Many homework 4. No review section for final exam.
He is most likely the best professor at Hofstra University. He always makes things clear as long as your paying attention. 10/10 would take this professor again.
Had him last semester. The WORST professor I have ever taken. Be prepared to teach yourself. He has hws due before he even fully teaches the chapter. If you go to tutoring instead of class and read the textbook you will be fine. Otherwise, good luck. My friend took him this semester and apparently he's gotten stricter and more confusing.
GREAT PROFESSOR. Literally just do all his hws & get an 80 & above on all the tests (3) and you'll get an A. Great test reviews. Lots of hw chances to still get 100% on them. He'll discourage you in the beginning saying you'll fail if you don't get 90&above in the exams but thats a lie. I got an 82, 80 & 87 on the exams and passed with an A.
Professor Slavin will make you work for your grade. He tries and make everyone nervous by saying you need 80s and above on every test or you will fail but that's false. I got an 82, a 58, and a 70 on the final but wound up with a B-. Make sure to read everything and make sure you understand the early materials they matter a lot later on.
Slavin knows his stuff but goes off topic like every class. He explains some things well and other things poorly. However he gives you some questions on the tests well in advance which is great. Need the textbook for homework which is online.
Professor Slavin was a good professor for ACCT 101 and I'll be taking him for ACCT 102 in the spring. He requires you to put effort in for the grade. Exams not so hard because some of the multiple choice are given in advance. 2 exams, final, and some homework that is very easy. I recommend him to anyone who needs to take this course.
Slavin doesn't know how to teach. You really have to study the textbook word for word. The homework problems don't really reflect test questions however they help boost your grade. If you are one of those people that learns from the teacher and cannot study independently do not take this class. Final is also very difficult.
Had him for a ACCT 101 and 102. Not hard but he doesn't teach at all. Anything on the board really just doesn't matter for the exams. He gives multiple choice questions before each exam and they are used exactly on the exams. Kinda realized that accounting isn't for me after all.
Need to work on your own for your grade - kind of hard material to understand. He tried to help as best as he can grading wise which was nice he wants his students to succeed. Lectures didnt really help me learn at all though. Nice guy but not the clearest teacher at times.
Slavin doesn't know how to teach. The homework problems don't really reflect test questions however they help boost your grade. If you are one of those people that learns from the teacher and cannot study independently do not take this class. Final is also very difficult and do not even contain things learned during the semester.
Put in the work and your guaranteed the grade you want. Must study independently to understand what goes on in class and exams! Great prof. for Accounting majors interested in the concepts. Also if you like cringey humor definitely a solid pick.
Professor Slavin is simply amazing. My only regret is that he doesnt reach the intermediate Accounting courses. I took his class for Accounting 101 & 102 and I can honestly say it was a pleasure having him as a professor. My advice to potential students is to do the homework, pay attention in class, participate, practice and study for your exams.
Professor Slavin is a great professor and even though this semester was taught virtually he was always available to go over anything I didn't get in the lectures his homework option is good and helps a lot with the material in the class I also met my best friend in this class and we'd always study together.
Overall a good professor. Would go to him for doubts but would not take him again.
Slavin is a good professor. There were 2 exams, 1 group project and several quizzes. He made us use clickers whicmakes the class so much more interesting because it engages class participation and you will learn from it. Study for the exams, you will be fine. Group project was the best part because I learned a lot about corporate annual report.
Terrible at their job and it's sad he's employed. Doesn't cover textbook readings throughly he assigns. Doesn't follow syllabus or update instructions for projects and blames you. Essentially you are teaching yourself. On top of in a Global Pandemic where people can't eat, talks about living in a gated community and his son going to school for free
TAKE THIS MAN! He is so funny with his old head jokes and is very understanding of any problems that you have. Honestly if you need to take ACC take it with Slavin!
I took Professor Slavin for ACCT101 last semester. Overall, he was a solid teacher. Personally, I did not find much value in his lectures but reading and understanding the textbook is crucial in passing. Doing the homework will not only help you prepare for the test but will save your grade so make sure to do them all! Gives 2 exams and a final.
My experience in Professor Slavin's class was indeed rewarding. It will seem fit to point out that, what I appreciated about this course were the teaching methods, the vast and easy access to resources provided by the professor, and the exercises given - which were properly structured and gave great insights to the topics being taught.
Great professor, is always there to help you out when you need help and he's quite a funny guy, just make sure you pay attention to the lectures in his class and you will do great make sure you study outside the class as well
Good lectures, pretty fun guy. Nice guy. Easy tests gave me an A
Nathans excellent command over the accounting subject and humor makes him exceptional professor. He explains thing until you understand, thank you once again Nathan for your wonderful teachings and I wish you good luck with your research work. No doubt, I recommend Nathan as best professor for accounting classes. (203 Acct & Financial Reporting).
Dr. Slavin provides his students in advance with questions that pertain verbatim to the examinations. His lectures are not particularly engaging and are improvised. His free-form teaching style did not suit my particular learning style but to each their own. I vehemently urge you to read the book religiously, as it will be your saving grace.
Slavin is really strong in the subject of accounting. His syllabus can be a little confusing to read with abbreviations. Can be up to three assignments per unit so the homework is time-consuming. Gives test questions ahead of time to study before tests which is very helpful to do well.
Amazing Professor. Course was well structured, clear instructions were given before the project and exam. He explains difficult terms in simple language with a kind of humour and answers students questions patiently with details. A professional, funny and nice man! 100% recommended!
Great Professor. There is a lot of homework but you have a lot of time to get it done. He gives outline of test and if you study based on that the tests are easy
First test is a free 100 which is worth 25% of your grade. Lectures can be extremely boring but if you take good enough notes and study you will do good.
One of the best professors I have had he is a nice guy, very funny, and down to earth. His class isn't too hard if you do your work and read the textbook he tells you how to succeed in the class and is very much right about it. He is very quick to respond to emails. The homework isn't hard at all I recommend taking this teacher very much.
If you want a B you don't have to show up to class just take the tests and do the homework
Class isn't hard at all the other thing is the way he writes notes is very confusing you don't have to try too hard to succeed in this class you are guaranteed at C every quiz because you gives you the questions before hand you will need to use the text book though. He is a very nice guy and it very down to earth I would 100 percent want him again.
Professor Slavin is a really nice and funny guy but as a professor I thought he was just ok. Your grade is determined by a group project, an individual project, weekly online homework, and a final exam based on the managerial accounting portion of the class. Be sure to study for the final exam as he makes it very difficult.
His lectures are very very boring but he is caring about his students and is quite lenient. He only teaches the class with one question per class therefore making it very hard to concentrate. He means well and gives all of his students the resources in order to succeed in his classes. MAKE SURE TO DO ALL THE HW AND QUIZZES, it helps your grade!!!!!
Professor Slavin is a mixed bag - he's funny and engaging, but the class can be a bit tricky. The workload is manageable with the right approach. I found using Unstuck AI alongside the textbook and professor's resources really helpful for staying on top of the material.
Nice and entertaining guy. Tends to ramble a lot when trying to teach or say something. He very easily goes off track so its hard to stay focused since he always goes off topic. Homework is very easy and he gives out 40% of the test as questions on his take home quizzes and from the textbook so if you memorize what he tells you to its free points.
He has no teaching method all he does is ramble. His notes and demonstrations are useless. Chatgpt taught me more about the course than he ever did. I got an A+ in ACCT 101 having a much harder professor and much more classwork. He's not the worst but not the best choose a different professor.
The worst professors ive ever had. Hes rude and condescending to students and he cant teach. His lectures are unhelpful when it comes to exams and homework. All he does is ramble about nonsense so you will have to teach yourself everything. dont send him an email bc you will get a passive aggressive response bc he thinks hes better than everyone
Hes not the best professor to take to fulfill an ACCT requirement. His lectures are confusing and he expects you to understand an insane amount of information. Hes very rude and condescending to students and won't answer a question without thinking hes doing you a favor. He also rants about how kids these days are ungrateful. He needs to grow up.
All you need is his lecture notes to do well. Very caring professor.
Genuinely one of the most narcissistic professors I've ever had. He was constantly political, spoke down to and discouraged his students, got mad at a student for not reminding him to post his own slideshow, and I had to report him and drop his class cause he decided to share with the entire room that I had testing accommodations. shame on him.
Great professor and very caring.
Bad. Very bad. We had no idea what the grading criteria was. You're only graded by your 3 tests and hws, so if you do bad it has a huge effect on your grade. Very unorganized. He also had a TA who wasn't the greatest, and would walk into class late. He also makes you purchase additional textbook. Even if you try to focus on the lecture, you can't.
There's a lot of homework and it's worth about 20% of your final grade. The first exam is easy, but after that you really need to study. As long as you listen in class and do what the professor says, you should be fine.
