Good teacher. Doesn't go over material too quickly. Gives extra credit opportunities. Tests are straight forward.
He is a really good teacher. Most important thing is to go to class and do the suggested problems. Its not hard work but you have to keep the material fresh to make it through the exams. He is easy to understand and helpful if you need it.
Tauber is a really nice guy! He will go over + over the concepts until you understand. Attendance isn't mandatory - but it's math, so it's a good idea to go. If you just do the suggested exercises, tests aren't too difficult. He's really nice and funny!
I am truely terrible at math (not just one of those people that is decent but pretends they're terrible to fit in). But this professor actually helped me understand math to the point of which I am not afraid of it anymore. So go to class, and do the suggested problems. He's a thorough teacher, funny, and kind. Best math prof at uwo (so far).
Professor Tauber can make, in my opinion, the most challenging subject interesting. He is younger and uses analogies that our age group understands. He is also quite funny, and his lectures are actually interesting. He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had in my life! I actually like math now, and I am not afraid to do exercises by myself
Tauber uses great analogies to help you understand different math concepts that can be confusing. Never assigns hw but its a good idea to do the suggested exercises otherwise the exams will be extrememly difficult. Doesn't require attendance but also a good idea to keep up on that! Gives occasional quizes, but if you do the hw you will do fine!
He's a really laid back, funny guy. Take this class over interim if you can! If you keep up with the homework, it's a really easy A, since the quizzes are exact homework problems. And he takes as much time as you need to answer questions in the beginning of class, so definitely use it.
The class is super easy and he goes over the material a lot. You don't need the book at all. If you have a question he is very understanding and will help you in any way.
He is a wonderful professor. He made me learn math, which I neve though was possible. I will take another class with him. Make sure to do the math problems because similar problems are on quizzes and exams. Use the math lab and ask him questions. Be respectful to him in class and actually attend because he likes to use pop quizzes.
He's a great teacher!! He's so nice, very funny and he tries to help you comprehend everything! Fair grader and so helpful with questions! TAKE HIM!
Great teacher. I hated math a lot coming into this class, but afterwards, I'm actually starting to enjoy it. He explains things in a way that draws everything together and makes it make sense. I got an A in the class, which I think is the first A I've gotten in a math class before (and not because it was that easy!)
He is an excellent teacher. He is very helpful and will help things stick in your mind. He takes attendance, but you don't NEED to go to his class. I'd recommend it though. As long as you do the practice excercises and ask questions you'll have no problem passing the class.
He is a very good teacher! I learned a lot during this class and feel like I'll actually remember some of it. The only problem I had was that he was a very hard exam grader. I would defiantly take another one of his classes.
Very sarcastic and not helpful at all. Failing the class when I should be passing. Takes off lots of points for little mistakes or even when the anwser is right but the work is not all on paper. Pop quizzes usually every class and Lectures right after exams for the rest of the class period.
He is very sarcastic, and sometimes not very helpful. You probably would rather of have a different professor if you struggle with math. He has pop quizzes almost every day, and he is a strict grader. I had to go to the math lab almost every day to understand the material.
Not very helpful at all. Very sarcastic and will answer your questions with his own questions. He never gives you a straight answer. Not compassionate either, for example I had gotten into a car accident and I was trying to take care of insurance, but he said "no life or limb is at risk it can wait until after class".
Will seem like a very cool teacher until you have a question. He will make you look stupid and answer with a question. Very sarcastic and hard grader. Throws pop quizzes when he realizes one or two people are missing, don't miss class and pay attention and you might still fail.
HARD FREAKING GRADER. Doesn't give ANY partial credit, I would get the answers correct on exams but something would be written wrong or something in my work and he would take full points off for it. Lots of pop quizzes. Super sarcastic to the point where he is not helpful. Seriously upsetting to me because I love math. Almost no one passed.
This is the worst professor I have ever had here. He does not give partial credit and no matter how hard you try, you will not do well in his class. He will not help you out and the tests are 10 times harder than any of the homework he assigns, which is also the only form of a 'study guide' he gives you. Don't take him
This professor is really hard! If you get part of the question wrong, he counts the whole question as wrong. He makes you feel dumb if you ask a question. I would not recommend taking him.
Very Helpful. Make sure to ask questions and attend class.
I haven't always been very good at math. At first, I wasn't doing very well. Then I started visiting his office for help. He was very helpful.
I am REALLY bad at math. I didn't do as well as I wanted but it was because I didn't go to class a lot. He was really nice though and funny in class when I was there.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone taking Math 103. He was not helpful at all and I felt stupid about the material. It's basic stuff but I did not understand the material the way he explained it. Do not take him for a professor. I had to get a tutor and go to the math lab in order to pass.
Very sarcastic but clear and effective teaching methods. He makes it very clear what he expects from you for every lesson and is good at explaining topics in a way that makes sense. I'm horrible at math and I did very well in the class. Very tough grader but explains how he wants things done and if you do it that way, you will do just fine.
I wish he taught my next math class. He is a strict grader but not unfair. He will explain your grade to you if you want. Funny in class.
Tauber is a cool, chill, funny guy. But his class is HARD. Tons of pop quizzes, no study guide for upcoming exams, which are TOUGH. You have to make sure you know how to do EVERY homework problem in your sleep to do well. Never been good at math, but I had no hope by the second exam. Take him at your own risk. I failed miserably. Have to retake.
Would not recommend. We only have 3 tests so if you do poorly on one, its hard to do well in the class. His "review days" consist of him staring at the class waiting for questions instead of going through everything that will be on the test. Seems like he expects everyone to just remember everything after going over it one day.
Tough grader, but a great teacher! I'm terrible at math but he did a good job explaining material and was always happy to help. Study hard for exams because you could do well on homework and completely bomb every test.
Good teacher
He's generally a nice guy, but his teaching style is really terrible. He doesn't do much teaching, just works does a couple example problems up on the board and then expects you to know everything else. His tests are super tough, and is a even tougher grader. Doesn't give study guides either. He goes way to fast, had to re-take the class.
Great teacher, got an A in the class.
Get ready for lots of write-up and hard exams. He's a great teacher but is the hardest grader I have had. Half of my class did not finish the final and he gave us no extra time. Be prepared to work you ass off for just a passing grade. DO NOT TAKE!
Professor Tauber was my favorite college math teacher I have had. Although he can be a tough grader, he provides a lot of help if you need it. Also, it seemed as though the class as a whole did better as the semester went on, so don't get discouraged if you don't do well on the first exam. Definitely recommend taking one of his classes!
I am not good at math and I thought the class was easy because he is a good professor, I would take him again in a heartbeat if I could. He does give pop quizzes, but they are exact questions from the homework, so do the homework, ask questions (he will spend as much time as you need at the beginning of class) then take the quiz!
I really liked this professor, but I am a little biased because I love math. You do a lot of group work which is better than just listening to a lecture, and the problems are very interesting. You have to write a few papers that are a little challenging. If you study all the main problems, the tests aren't too bad.
He is an okay professor, he's good at explaining things and takes time to answer questions. He's a tough grader, and I know multiple people had to retake math103. (Including me)
I had to retake the class, but that was my fault. He is an amazing professor and he wants you to pass, but you wont take it easy on you. He makes it so he knows if you know whats going on. There is help if you need it, and overall he is one of the best math professors Ive ever had. Do your homework. do it
Super nice guy, good sense of humor.
Tauber was honestly the best teacher I have ever had. He explains everything very clearly. Before moving onto the next section, he will go over homework and make sure everybody understands. Tests are very easy if you do the homework. Homework is not mandatory, but rare pop quizzes are straight from the homework.
Spends the entire class period going over the most basic problems, however when you get to the homework/exams they are anything BUT basic. When you ask questions on the complex problems, he gets confused explaining them. Basically you teach yourself in this class, and even that isn't enough to pass the tests.
He teaches very well and he is extremely easy to ask questions to. Tauber answers your questions in a good and understanding way. I would recommend him to anyone taking Math 103. If you do the homework, then you'll get an A.
He is a really great professor, he will answers all your questions and is very clear when teaching. He gives homework most nights, but they usually are not that long. The exams aren't too bad, everything that is on the test, you have learned in class. He is very personable, funny, and understanding. Overall, great professor, highly recommend.
Took him for 103 and it didnt go so well. He moved through the material so fast I got whiplash. He doesnt answer questions all the way, and exams are a LOT harder than the lecture examples. Over half of my class failed it and had to re-take it. Definitely pick someone else if youre not good at math to begin with.
This class has no organization to it and since we never take notes I basically have nothing to study from. Don't try to learn stats from this man!
POP QUIZZES EVERY WEEK so don't plan on skipping even with attendance not mandatory. You can literally tell when he's going to give a pop quiz; he asks the class if there are any questions and if no one asks, he will be an a** and give a pop quiz that second (SERIOUSLY, ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVE ANY). You'd better not miss a thing on the board!!
I'm not the best at math but he made is super easy to understand. He did take attendance everyday and would give pop quizzes often. But this class was really easy, if you do the homework and pay attention
Not a fan. Professor Tauber assigns pop quizzes all the time during the week. He teaches at a fast pace and does not really explain the topic well. You have to ASK QUESTIONS in order for him to explain it
Professor Tauber does not care about his students at all. He will not explain things very well, assign quizzes almost every day (which makes it much harder to actually learn the math). He is an old fashioned teacher; much like the rest of the math department which is a complete joke. It's hard to learn in his environment.
He does a good job at making math interesting and understandable. Appropriately gauges the class needs and understanding. He also is charasmatic.
Professor Tauber does not have the best work ethic when it comes to being a professor. He acts like I am just there for the money and will do the bare minimum of the things that he is required to do. He cares more about himself than his students. Do not ever skip class because he assigns random pop quizzes which are 10 points for each question.
Math was absolutely terrible. Final exam was 50% of grade, midterm 30% quizzes 10% and homework 10%. Takes attendance everyday. Pop quizzes every chapter that includes 1 math problem worth 10 points. No making up any points or retaking anything.
Unfortunately I have to retake this class and with the same professor. Homework should be a little more easy. Teachers don't actually take in consideration that we are students and we have other class to also take care of. Homework usually takes me 3 hours to do. Exams? If you have 3 wrongs, its automatically a C. He don't help students.
Very good professor. Explains everything very well and is very nice. Highly recommended taking him. Does give a lot of quizzes but so do all the other math 101 professor and they are very easy if you have been paying attention. Is willing to help and answer all questions, also he will let you out quite early if you get done with the lesson quick.
He is decent. He goes fast and does many examples. You can ask questions but not many. He treats you like you are dumb. Pop quizzes weekly if not more than one. they are not bad but sometimes suck. I reccomend taking someone else.
Horrible teacher. Quizzes almost everyday. Makes you feel dumb if you ask a question. Very demeaning. Just here to teach and doesnt seem to actually care. Take a different math 103 professor if possible. Doesnt go over exams. Maybe give us a break after an hour because 2 hours is a long time.
Dont ever take a seven week class with this man he is a terrible teacher.
This teacher is the worse I've had yet. So much homework is crazy. If you ask a question he will make you feel dumb. Quizzes out of the blue. PLEASE consider taking another teacher for sure!
Professor Tauber is the best math teacher I have EVER had, and I really mean that. I am horrible in math, as you can see by my final grade, but besides the fact that I am a bad test taker, he made my worst subject, entertaining and actually helped me understand the course. ALEKS is a blessing in disguise. If you complain about this dude, don't.
I had him for winter interim and let me tell you he is amazing. This class had a lot of work, but it was important and meaningful work. Show up EVERYDAY and take the homework seriously and you will pass. I'm awful at math and I passed pretty easily. He also really loves doing math and loves questions. I highly recommend taking his courses.
Tauber was an awful professor. Didn't really care what the students had to say, if you say anything he'll treat you like you're stupid. Pop quizzes every class so go to all the classes. Moves very fast and does lots of examples. I struggled a lot in this class, get a different professor for Math 103 if you want to pass.
Heres the thing, he takes way too many points off when grading. if you make one simple mistake like forgetting to add a negative sign, he will take 3 points off a 5 point question. this makes it nearly impossible to pass the tests. he is also not empathetic at all when it comes to those who struggle with math. don't bother asking for lenience.
If you are decent at remembering formulas and definitions you should be perfectly fine as long as you pay attention. Homework is for completion and he posts answer day after it is due for you to check your work. There are 6 quizzes and final. Also a Project Write Up. Only reason I struggled was because I did not pay attention.
Prof Tauber was a good professor for statistics. Was very helpful in being responsive and clearing up any confusion. My recommendation is to pay attention and be organized with your work and take good notes. Review well before tests and youll do great. I only struggled because of COVID and online learning.
Professor Tauber is very good at explaining math concepts and making sure lectures are helpful to the topics learned. He is willing to give extra material and help you outside of class if you're having trouble learning a topic. Timing for quizzes can be difficult with the amount of questions, so studying helps to save time.
Overall good professor. He goes very in-depth on hard concepts so they are easier to understand. Tests were the hardest part of the class but definitely manageable if you do the homework and understand it. Expect homework like 75% of the time. He is really quick and thorough in replying to emails w questions which was helpful.
He makes it really hard for you to pass. He moved through everything really fast and it's super easy to get behind. He does practice problems but he doesn't explain them that much so it's really hard to learn. There's pop quizzes almost every class, they are always 1-2 questions, and if you get it wrong you get a 0.
He was awful. Doesn't care about his students at all & makes you feel dumb. He doesn't create reviews for exams because they "don't help". Homework is on Aleks which teaches how to do things one way & then in class, he teaches another way. He makes it overwhelming & harder than it needs to be. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
As a person he is a nice guy. But hes an incredibly tough grader. Its all or nothing with him. Theres no partial credit for showing your work or anything. Id like to have a beer with him, but I will never take a class of his again
taught awfully, gave pop quizzes every single class period and If you missed it or were late to class you got an immediate zero. Awful. Literally awful. Taking the same class again with a much better professor and passing easily
Professor Tauber is a very tough grader, however explains math concepts very well. He knows what he is doing. As long as you attend class you will be good.
Pop quizzes almost all the time. Shows preference towards certain students. Will fight you if you have accommodations.
Very nice and cool guy. First half of the semester is very easy and barely any actual math. The second half can come at you fast though. Only a couple problems a week for homework, and its just based on completion. He takes attendance, lectures aren't too boring, and tests aren't too bad.
He's explains things well, but the homeworks are 10x more complicated than the tests. It's mostly because he uses the ALEKS system, which is super particular about how your answers are put in. Good teacher overall though.
I have taken math 106 3 times and he was the best professor that I have had. He's not great but he explains the material well and the exams aren't too tough. The ALEKS homework is horrible though because it is never the same as what we went over in class and what is on the exam. Overall, I would recommend him
Nathan was a fun professor. He joked around enough to keep class interesting. He explained the material clearly. He was always willing to answer my questions but was sarcastic sometimes. The exams were hard second half of the semester. You have to be in class to get and turn in the homework so don't skip. Overall, a very approachable professor.
He was very good at explaining material to the class and very accommodating if students did not understand a problem. He kept class lighthearted and interesting. However, there is lots of pop quizzes, and the exams were so hard. If you plan on taking his class and you struggle in math, I would recommend getting outside help
Nathan Tauber Is a horrible professor! He teaches way too fast, and it is hard to keep up. He gives too many pop quizzes that only have 2 questions and if you get one wrong, you pretty much fail it. His exam review isn't even close to what was on the exam. Don't even try asking him for help, I tried, and he made me feel stupid. DO NOT RECOMEND!
This professor takes a whole class to solve one problem. The detail is great, but this doesn't help when we have homework assignments that look nothing like whatever is going on in class. I spend over 10 hours a week doing Tauber's homework, which is absolutely ridiculous! I WOULD NOT recommend this professor to anyone SOLELY due to the homework.
He's a nice guy, but he assigns wayyyyy to much homework. DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DOING MATH HOMEWORK FOR 15 HOURS A WEEK AND STILL FAIL THEM ALL. He does a great job of explaining things and the exams aren't too bad, but when it comes to the homework, half of the problems are on topics you never talked about in lecture
not a big fan, had him for math 206. he's a cool guy but does not really reply when you need help. and exams are nothing like homework or in class things. good luck
Took MATH206 with him. Wasn't a hard class for me, he grades you based on 6 homeworks and 6 quizzes (no cumulative final). He would always spend more time on challenging topics and help you if you have questions.
If I could put the "Lots of homework" tag on here 3 times, then I would. Tauber is a really nice and accommodating guy, and he explains math concepts well. However, the amount of homework that he gave us per week was absolutely ridiculous. It was a struggle to complete it all. I wouldn't take his class just because of the amount of hw he gives.
Every class it seemed like this professors goal was to confuse students. He would teach something for 20 minutes and then tell us not to do that and that it would be wrong on the test if we did it that way. He wasted my time and also made me and other students feel stupid for asking questions and for trying to figure out what the correct answer.
Had him for Math 206. Attendance is taken each class. The homework is due every other week. The exams are nothing like the homework. If you want to pass the class, you have to attend office hours, and do tons of practice problems from each section of the book for the chapter being tested.
He is a good teacher. I can understand easily in his class. I enjoyed his class, if I have chance, I will take his class again. One assignment and exam per week on average. It is not difficult for me. The assignment is covered the whole week study content.
Very condescending and not helpful. He does not actually teach anything, he just puts a problem on the board and says to do it even though no one knows how.
The way he teaches, is by assigning homework, then going over that homework the next day. That might be helpful learning to some people, however for me it made the class harder. Since I learn better being taught what to do first, and then doing the homework
Have to work in groups for everything. If you do not go to class, you will fail. Has no idea how to explain things. Didn't really teach me anything, had to teach myself all of the material.
often ridicules you for asking a question or giving an educated guess in class. very nitpicky on quizzes and spends the majority of the class going over the homework that was due that day. although attendance isn't mandatory, he grades you on your attendance and participation at the end of the semester.
I usually would never go out of my way to write a complaint about a teacher, but wow I have many things to say about this professor. The workbook that is provided to the class and is used as the whole base of the class is terrible. Tough grader, terrible lectures, terrible relationship with students, and he even smells terrible.
If you are coming into college struggling with math you do NOT want him as a teacher!!!
Didn't learn anything in this class and ended up having to take it again but with a different professor. I constantly felt judged by him and so did a lot of other women in the class. Anytime I would get a question wrong he would laugh out loud at me and basically announce it to the class. The amount of homework was absurd as well. Overall a bad guy
Professor Tauber's MATH101 class can be challenging, but engaging with the material and using resources like Unstuck study can help. Attendance is mandatory, so be prepared to participate.
