It was On-Line class. His tests are very easy. He is very helpfull. I reccomend taking him for a good grade:) We did lots of interesting activities even though the class never met.
really cool guy, he is very flexible about deadlines and length of papers. his classes are easy. if you wanna get by, he is the one
This class (International Relations) was a lot of fun for me. He made the class very interesting by doing a lot of great activities. We had some really interesting debates and class discussions. The class itself is easy. He's really laid back and helpful. I would definitely recommend him.
great teacher. The class was online but his notes were clear. The quizzes were easy. The assignments weren't that bad and he's a fair grader. The tests were essay questions but again not bad because as long as you hit the right points you'll be fine.
Good professor. In the beginning it seems confusing and that you're not learning anything., but then starts to become easier and the debates in class help a lot. You have to read a book about slavery in Africa. Some research in other topics, 3 papers, 2tests which are easy and the final was very easy.
one of the best professors I've had, class was very interesting and lectures were cool
The class was not that interesting. I took the online version and I felt like he could have participated more in the discussion boards or gave us more feedback. He is a fair grader, but his test are not that easy. Read the text and the power points!
flexible-yes. nice-yes. knowledgeable-yes. Lectures are boring&dry. A few mildly humorous comments are usually the highlight. Discussions are so horrible although i suppose it depends who is in your class, but if I had to choose between listening to students talk or the prof- i choose skipping. papers are poorly graded. its frustrating.
I took his online class, which was really easy and very fun. He lets us do a lot of online discussions with our peers as part of the grade on current events, so it was relaxing and interesting to hear other peoples thoughts. Good teacher when you needed help and pretty easy online.
Great professor. Great content. Very knowledgable passionate about poli sci. Has extra credit "events." Very helpful, willing to work with you and overall good experience. Took the online section and thought the online discussion portion of the class was a nice added touch. Professor definitely recommended!
I first took PS203HM with Dr. Zook and ever since just took all his courses (class and online) simply because the knowledge you gain in his class is profound and its something that will forever stay with you. He grades fairly,if you come to class, do the assignment and ask questions and show you care you will surely do fine. You won't regret it!
Took online course. Prof was flexible with essay quality. Weekly tests were short but difficult, little room for error. Fortunately I got an A, but a B on even one essay/test could sink anyone's grade. Zook's strictly of the 'set it & forget it' variety of online profs; he assigns tons of reading at beginning of term and then disappears for good.
PS 282 can be a little dull at times, but Dr. Zook was a solid professor. He can be a bit repetitive in lecture, but he was always very nice, knowledgeable, and responsive. Lots of extra credit events. My only complaint was that the material he equally covers is not equally represented on the tests. Still, good prof, and I'd recommended him.
Zook is a very helpful professor. He is very wiling to help his students. His exams are pretty straight forward. Focus on the study guide as it covers everything on the exam. Write down all notes. (Not many) I enjoyed Zook's class. Lots of extra credit events!
he is a really helpful professor, awesome! Provides the class with extra credit activities, provides a study guide, class is awesome, he usually has slides. write notes, most (almost all) of the questions in the exam are from what he lectures.
Professor Zook is very especial from MC. He really knows about political scienes. He encourages to learn his course and also let us know different please. I would like to listen his conferences and he enjoys working with his students. Thank you for being your student
very lovely professor. I hope to be his student again
An easy class basically like 3 things to write, maybe like 10-12 weeks of quiz work, and a final and midterm. Took this online and Zooks a pretty hands off dude lol he didn't even comment on our discussions for like 3 weeks of the class.
Zook is a great professor, I have taken 3 classes with him and have learned so much from each one, he gets an A from me. good mix of projects papers and exams
The online course was good. Some of the questions on the quizzes were a little tricky. Assignments were not bad at all, and final was pretty easy. Good professor overall, and highly recommended. Maybe because I was taking the online class, the book was highly used.
good professor just too many assignments
he is good, a few papers, easy tests, map quizzes every class.
Awesome teacher. Defiantly talk to him in his office, extremely helpful!! Non-bias and really loves his subject. RECOMMEND!!
Took the comparative politics class online. Pretty simple weekly quizzes if you do the reading. Discussion was comprised of a weekly international relations simulation. Great class.
Took the online course. Quizzes are tricky (wrong answers look like the right ones). Class discussions. Tests are essay questions. The textbook is a must read to pass the class.
Professor Zook is so nice. He knows a lot and is always willing to help. He is involve in a lot of activities that could interest a lot of the people that are interested in International relations or Political science. Take advantage of him. HE'S CLASS IS FUN AND HE IS SIMPLY THE BEST.
Dr. Zook is a great professor and extremely kind! He is so understanding about late assignments and always takes time to answer questions. He remains unbiased during discussions and has the utmost respect for all of his students. This well-traveled man is a breath of fresh air. He offers a wonderful insight and his tests are purely lecture based.
Great professor! Provides clear assignments, that are not hard, you just have to take time to complete them. He is passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches and gives at least 3 extra credit assignments over the semester!
He is such a great teacher. Very nice and just someone you will love to listen to. You can simply feel how passionated he is about teaching politics. Class is always fun and interesting. If you do your work (which isn't that hard) you will get a good grade. Enjoyed my class with him.
I've taken a couple Political Science courses (Comparative Politics and International Relations) with Dr. Zook. His passion for teaching political science kept me motivated in my studies. He is the best teacher I have ever had and I recommend him to everyone who needs a PS credit.
Dr.Zook is the best teacher at MC. I took his international relations class. Coolest guy ever, super helpful. He is a tough grader and the quizzes are quite tough too. If you are the type of person who slacks a lot, you might not enjoy this class. He is funny and super chill. Hope he teaching more courses on campus in the fall. KEEP IT REAL DR ZOOK
I LOVE THIS TEACHER! He is extremely helpful and super smart. I think he deserves the best rating that Rate My Professor can offer. LOVED his class, and so did all of my classmates. By the end of the semester none of us wanted it to be over. We even asked him to tell us what other courses he was teaching so that we could register for those.
I loved him as a teacher. He is simply the best. Quizes are a bit hard, but overall he is the best teacher at MC. Loved his class!
Dr Zook's PS 203 class was very interesting. If you read the text books & participate in discussions & quiz you are good. He is very kind & gives opportunities to online students to join some of his field trips - museums or view movie documentary viewing for extra points. These were really great in person visits + the advntge of earning extra pts
Best class ever, do your work reading the book and taking quizzes. It was very interesting. I highly recommend :)
Best class ever. You just need to read the book and ask questions. He is very interesting and gives a lot of information. Highly recommended
I have taken Professor Zook for three semesters and honestly I think he is by far perhaps the finest Poly Sci professor you will ever find at MC! PS201 was perhaps his most difficult class but I managed to clinch an "A" grade. Weekly quizzes (STUDY), two assignments and two exams. Study hard and do the work and you will get an A.
LOVED THIS TEACHER! Honestly one of the best teachers at MC. Would LOVE to take another class taught by him. Made the class so fun and clear, seriously take his class, he's the best!!!!!!!!
Zook isn't a bad professor by any means, but his classes are basically run by the students and he chimes in every once in a while to make a point or if a discussion becomes too sidetracked. If you are interested in politics and have a lot to say about it,take this class. If you have other options, consider those instead.
Took Professor Zook's online class. A lot of reading and especially writing so of course textbook is required. His exams are essay questions and the quizzes are multiple choice. Some questions on the quizzes can be tricky because the wrong answers seem like the right ones. Weekly discussions as well. If you hate writing this class is not for you.
He is what every educator should strive to be. He makes everyone work hard, but he's understanding. He doesn't give his students a hard time over trivial things. Assignments are research intensive. Easy grader, but you must participate! Make the effort and you will do well. Multiple choice tests are surprisingly difficult. There's extra credit.
He is a great professor who is ready to help the students every time they need it. Thank you!
He's a really quirky guy. Expect a weekly online quiz (which most of the time answers are easily found). Expect to do 3 weekly blog post, which I found annoying at first, but it really allowed me to stay up to date with current events. If you take his fall class, he will try to recruit you for Model UN. DO IT!!!! It replaces a lot of course work!!!
Fastest grader I've ever had!
Such a sweet person, even though I never met him in person lol. He is very helpful if you email him. Also can be very understanding and isn't evil like other professors. I think the work load wasn't ridiculous but you can not slack off for an online course. Don't miss any discussion posts! they add up in the end. Would def take him again!
This course lets you participate in Model United Nations! Best academic choice I made! Dr. Zook encourages the best in research and speaking ability.
Dr. Zook was by far my favorite teacher at Montgomery College. If you are at all interested in Political Science, current events, history, or just the world and world views in general, you will learn so much from him. There is a quiz every week and the tests are hard. However, he really wants to make sure you are learning and enjoying the material.
All his class lectures are based on the textbook (read before you show up format). I read the textbook only twice and got a B. Pretty easy B. Love the prof, makes things interesting. He knows a lot about political science. I am taking him again next semester for more POLI classes.
I loved this class. Make sure you take notes, if you take good notes, the exams will be easy. The lectures are interesting and fun- it feels like a family environment. There are a few papers and two exams.
Dr Zook is a very kind person by nature. He can be funny in class often time. His weekly quizzes are mostly not so hard. He is willing to help you, but do not take advantage of his kindness. I took 3 poli classes with him and I respect him for being awesome!
This class was blended, so it was somewhat not that stressful. Zook is very nice and encourages everyone to participate. He is lecture heavy, so write down everything he says, it will help you for the finals. Also, the papers are easy (3 in total), if you take the time for it.
There is a lot of work for the class, every week there is a quiz and discussion and there is two projects. The midterm and final exams are essays not multiple choice. He is organized so you always know exactly what is do and he grades everything quickly. Great class!
Calm and nice professor. Most students would fall asleep and pretty much just answer from the review guide. Even if you get A's in all your assignments, you are 95% likely to end up with a B (unless you participate in his Model UN group outside of class...)
He is very accommodating and will extend an assignment if you have a reason. Very clear on what he wants and grades fairly.
HE IS AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Zook cares for students and is understanding about busy student schedules and gives additional time when requested. The syllabus is clear and the expectations are easy to understand. Great teacher
Professor Zook is great. I took his online class so I cant speak on his lectures but his PowerPoints were very thorough. He is clearly very knowledgeable about politics and encourages his students to think critically about each subject. He also provides extra material outside of the text book for further investigation into the topic. Take him!
I took his online class and it was very straight forward and consistent, there is no excuse for anyone to miss any weekly points. You do have to participate in the weekly discussions for participation points that do add up. Overall, if you plan on taking an online class that is enjoyable. This is the class to take.
Prof Zook is a great professor, he is very kind and easygoing. I took his online class and he was very straight forward on the criteria for assignments. There are weekly discussions and weekly quizzes that are very easy if you read the textbook. He answers emails quickly and is always available to help during office hours.
Professor Zook is a very sweet, caring, and cool guy. He is very straightforward with his grading and what he wants, and is accessible outside of class. He is very laid back, treats the class fairly, and knows his stuff! Tests are kinda tricky, so read each chapter. He also plans really fun field trips! A true gem, he is awesome. I will miss him!
Very clear in grading criteria and excellent professor
Great lectures! His presentation aids are just photos which was hard to adapt to, but not too bad after a few months. The content was very clear. He does not go over assignments in class unless asked to (he assumes you read the syllabus), so be careful! Grading is very fair otherwise. Good professor overall!
Wonderful, Understanding, and Helpful teacher. After taking him in an online class, he encourages discussion and will let the students have good conversations without butting in. 10/10 would take again
I took a DL class with Prof Zook. Be prepared for heavy reading and timed multiple choice quizzes that don't necessarily match the reading material Literally a self taught class. The professor did not even made his original PPT nor videos. He did not participated in class discussions. Totally absent. Maybe in person he is a good teacher, not in DL.
I took his summer online course and found his lecture videos very thought-provoking. He was always available for zoom meetings during the pandemic - didn't matter if it was early in the morning or late at night. Very respectful of students' thoughts during controversial discussions.
Doesnt charge you for a textbook. Uses free up-to-date open resources instead. Very respectful of students and wants you to succeed. Loves to discuss pros and cons of development!
I have the chance to have Dr. Zook for all my POLI classes. It was amazing, and It was a great experience. Most of his classes are blended with weekly discussions and easy quizzes. He is caring, patient, and flexible. Dr. Zook is understandable and gives time to the student that needs it. He is one of the good professors at Montgomery College.
Gives no feedback on any of the work that you submit. He doesn't teach the material but he asks us to discuss the topic in class. You have quizzes due every week. You get participation points, so if you don't speak in class you probably won't get those points. He is frequently late as well. But on the plus side, he is not a strict grader.
Inspired me to change my major to political science! He got me hooked on geography and its importance in international relations. Very helpful and caring. Always happy to give advice on rough drafts of assignments.
The guy left no feedback at all. it was one awful experience taking his class. He never replied to the email and not a single feedback on works, you finish the class without having any idea what you are doing. i DO NOT recommend
very caring and very, very helpful to everyone. always willing to be flexible. after my first assignment, he was very clear on showing me how to improve on future assignments. this was so valuable in helping me succeed. i can't thank him enough. my favorite pol sci professor!
Very quick to respond to my course mails. knows alot about international relations. Helpful and willing to work with my situations
One of the best professors I've ever taken. If you're not into political science or government he's your guy.
Best professor I've had. Easy and understanding. He's not just there for the paycheck. He gave chapter outlines/notes. Put in a little work and care a little and you'll be fine
Great professor, although there is a bunch of reading to do
Amazing professor. Helpful, understanding, replies quick to email inquiries, amazing lecture videos. Take this professor class you won't regret.
One of the best professors I've had at Montgomery College in Rockville.
Dr. Zook challenged me to care about universal human rights in this class. I really enjoyed writing about various issues on the discussion board from the lens of morals and the UDHR. There were short lecture videos for each unit as well as a quiz. Midterm and Final exams were essay questions. There was also a final paper.
Really knows his stuff, yet is always happy to hear what we have to say. The course ended too soon - I wanted it to keep going. The prof is very relatable and willing to go above and beyond in flexibility when I needed it.
Dr. Zook's class was such a delight! His lectures were always intriguing, and he always gave the class time to ask questions and listen to us. The quizzes were definitely a bit more challenging than the exam mcq, but with the textbook, you'll be fine! I generally enjoyed taking his class, as his assignments were always very interesting.
Do the reading and you will be fine. Be creative, and don't waste the opportunity to have some fun while you're at it. He is helpful, and responds to emails quickly. Will be taking another course of his this spring.
Fascinating lectures, yet loves to hear viewpoint of students. Really enjoyed the simulation and discussions.
As long as you remember to study regularly, Zook's class is manageable. The stories that he tells to supplement what we are learning are fascinating to listen to.
Take good notes and you should be fine
Prof. Zook is a fun professor with interesting and engaging lectures. However, his slides do not have much content so you have to take really good notes if you're going to pass the exams.
Very good at giving feedback, interactive with students, great teacher!
Prof. Zook is really informative, understanding, and one of the best professors I've had. Lectures were are from the textbook but his slides can be few, the work we get is light with the usual weekly discussion posts, and in exams he gives out study guide to help us prepare, and while there are papers, he's generous in giving time for them.
Really funny professor and overall a good dude. The class is pretty hands-off you'll be teaching yourself most of the material, so be ready to stay on top of things. He's a bit introverted, but he means well and keeps things light when he talks. Great if you're independent and like low-pressure classes.
From what I've come to understand, Dr.Zook is a super chill, laid-back professor. Responded to emails very fast, despite it being a summer course. You had 500 points in total, so you could only afford to lose 50 points to get an A. That said, his instructions weren't specific, and he doesn't expect perfection. Easy grader and funny video lectures.
Dr. Zook has a gift for explaining difficult topics so well that I almost enjoy them:)
Professor Zook has been an amazing teacher, and I honestly feel bad I didn't take the class seriously enough. He is extremely easy-going, and it won't be the end of the world for you if you don't turn in an assignment on time, though I wouldn't recommend that.
